I was trying to express my support for you, DanDan.

I have one, and it relates to the tired old "friends to lovers" trope. Not saying friends can't become lovers, but being friends first is a terrible dating strategy! A one-way ticket to the friend zone.

To be clear, women don't put us in the friend zone. We put ourselves there by being passively pleasing pushovers.

My big one is rushing. Moving through an RP, pushing from big moment to big moment just to be dome with it. Especially annoying when it means leaving someome behind purely because they're not online to keep up.

Eh, for every example done right, you have 99 done wrong. I prefer characters who make their intentions known from the start, instead of resorting to guises and manipulation to get what they believe they're entitled to. :P

When I think of pet peeves, I think of mostly harmless behavior that just annoys me personally, like loudly chewing with your mouth open in public and smacking your lips when you clean the Dorito dust off your fingers oh my God James please stop you're actually a savage.

If I have an RP pet peeve it's that moment when I've just had my character have a passionately negative interaction with another player's character and I immediately see them typing in my DMs on Discord. I know what it is. "Hey, we cool?" I get it, you're trying to be the most unproblematic person you can possibly be, and I actually love you for it, but please stop, because now my own overthinking ass is wondering if I'm subtly coming across as a self-inserter with an axe to grind rather than someone trying to play a flawed character and maybe I'm the asshole for not communicating OoC ahead of time that my character was going to snap at yours but if I do that you might think I want you to edit your post and we'd get robbed of an interesting character moment for both of us and yeah I'm not letting that happen sorry I'm an IC drama queen.

Yeah I'm probably the problem. That's what I think of when I think of pet peeves though.

Like I get it, reaching out to someone can be a little nerve-wracking. And sometimes people I'm sure just send off a quick message so they don't forget to message. But. BUT. When its someone who clearly hasn't read your intchk... I get annoyed. And I try not to be. But I am. ^^;

I've got quite a few, although I think they're all pretty typical. Like spotlighting, lack of consequences for character actions (especially negative ones), deus ex machina (like idc if it's a poor setup. Something is better than causing whiplash), metagaming, and inconsistent characters. Those are the only ones that come to mind really.

A pet peeve, pet aversion, or pet hate is a minor annoyance that an individual finds particularly irritating to a greater degree than the norm.

I'd have to say that's spot on.

And on that;

Why do people have an issue with a disabled person *playing* a disabled character? I always make people aware I have disabilites and how they can impact me in terms of reply times, needing reminding to respond, etc.

I get "yeah but playing as an autistic/deaf character is still wrong you're making the disabilities seem like fiction and making me feel uncomfortable playing against a disabled character/writer" as if I am doing it to be an arsehole.

As someone who is autistic and ADHD, it is very hard for me to write a 'genuine' neurotypical OC, and I've had people tell me they're 'uncanny' and 'robotic.'

I had been in an RP in which the GM had a section in the Discord server that basically functioned as a journal/blog. They'd write about past experiences and vent about stuff in it.

It only ever happened once, but it was enough for me to red flag it on my way out. Just like... keep your RP's Discord focused on the RP. It's one thing of stuff to come out organically in conversation. It's another thing entirely to set up a spot specifically designated for writing about one's self in that kind of environment. Rubbed me the wrong way.

The peeve is inconsistency with tense. I'll write in past or present tense (though IMO past tense is better for narrative), but for the love of all that is sacred pick one. And don't go against the one the game is already in, damnit.

The actual issue is people saying they're up for something "dark" and then being suddenly taken aback when my character does something terrible (but in-character, like a mercenary assassin killing an innocent witness) or engages with mature themes like abuse and/or trauma. If you don't want that, sure, I won't force anything on you, but don't TELL me I can bring my asshole murder hobo in need of second chances to grow away from her past if you aren't actually willing to go there.

I think the main reason or complaint for this is that there is a fine line between "dark" and just "plain edgy" in regards to characters/storylines like this. People may see you teetering to the latter.

That's not really playing in good faith, though. I'm sure plenty of people think I'm edgy, hell I call myself edgy all the time, but like. The default assumption should be that your fellow players are doing their best to write good characters, no?

I agree that you should be assuming your fellow writers should be/are doing their best. However, it doesn't free you or anyone else from criticism (preferably constructive criticism). You and others are obviously entitled to your own opinions, which may or may not be positive in regards to the character/writing/etc. You may think something is dark, but another person might think it is just edgy. Killing an innocent witness, as mentioned in your example, could easily be taken as a "haha, look how evil my character is", hence the fine line I had spoke in my previous reply. Describing your character as an "asshole murder hobo" probably isn't helping your cause as well, given the context of the terminology used.

I was being a bit flippant in my description there, yes. Just, if you tell me this story deals with the trivialization of violence and second chances as core themes, I shouldn't expect outrage over my character treating violence as trivial. That's all.
