We've got a lot of folks well past the two-week deadline, and several who seem to have gone AWOL. So as a check-up to see who's still here:

On the Chopping Block: over 2 weeks with no activity, have received a call-out already and haven't responded.

@Master Bruce
@udonoodles
@Supermaxx
@Hillan

First Call-Out: last post was over two weeks ago.
@Half Pint: 16 Days (that one is partially on me for not jumping into collaboration sooner)
@PatientBean: 20 days
@Mao Mao: 20 days
@Hound55: 20 days
@Ezekiel: 22 days

Those on the chopping block have 24 hours to respond or they'll be dropped- a post would be great, some signs of life at the minimum. Everyone else, sound off so we know you're here.

Mostly I was waiting to see if anyone else was going to do anything with the event but I imagine that's a no by now so I guess I'll just wrap it up solo

My bad! A tag would help but I do try to read everything, must have just missed the post between the others!

I'll get a reply up.

So, I'm hearing a lot of "I was waiting for..." from people. Which is great. Love the consideration.

However, that's what the OOC is for, folks. Don't be afraid to communicate. Whether that be an update for the GM team to be aware of your status, or @ing others here if you're joining them in an event or would like to collab. I've tried a few times to get people engaged in the OOC, but unless people buy into the notion of open communication it won't happen. The OOC is often times almost as important as the IC. If things are dead quiet in here, odds are they'll be even more quiet over there.

Not saying you all need to be constantly chatting, but a little engagement here and there definitely helps move things along. And it gives the GM team an indication on the health of things.

I was pretty much off the face of the earth for a while there, swung around to night shifts in terms of my sleep. The work is slowing a bit. I should have something up myself this weekend.

But for now, I'm caught up on the last few posts from the past 36 hours where I'd pretty much vanished without a trace.

I'm still holding out hope I hear back from a certain someone involving a potential, mini-crossover of sorts. If that doesn't pan out soon, though, I'll go for Plan M. I'm hoping not to delay my next post too long, but we'll see how this goes.

On the subject of chatter and activity in the OOC:

What's everyone's favorite take on their respective character? Any particular runs in the comics you'd consider required reading, or a version from the cartoons or movies that inspired you?

I mean I definitely am inspired by the Jessica Jones show on Netflix as well as the Defenders. Pretty much what put me on to her as a character and she's been in the top 5 favorite Marvel characters for me ever since.

No surprise here, but Immortal Iron Fist is still the undisputed GOAT. Kaare Andrews' Iron Fist: The Living Weapon is a very different, somewhat controversial take, but I find it fascinating in the way it weaves together threads from Marvel Premiere #15 to the Fraction run and beyond.

On the fun side of things, I think the 2016 revival of Power Man & Iron Fist is great. It reminds me a lot of Sensational Foes of Spider-Man and Ms. Marvel and other comics that are okay just being fun, silly adventures.

I can't help but notice the lack of inspiration from acclaimed Netflix series Iron Fist.

Well, I did kind of steal the death of the Rands from that. I've never really liked the wrinkle that Wendell Rand lived in K'un-Lun, completed all the trials, and nearly became Iron Fist before effing off to become a billionaire instead. It makes Danny not just a white savior but the son of an even bigger white savior...

Other than that, yeah, the well of inspiration runs pretty dry.

I do like how Immortal Iron Fist tied all that together with Orson Randall though.

And the kind of spin on fate where Wendall's not actually meant to ever be the Iron Fist, and the depth in trying to return to that world after he was kind of scared off of it by Orson who had his own views on the role and place of the Iron Fist.

The fact Wendall basically turned Orson's accrued family wealth kind of de-fangs that incredulity as well.

Wendall was forever chasing Orson's shadow, and the one he wound up accepting was less the one he actually wanted... and more what was less intimidating.

I've... very little to go with in terms of tv and film media for my take.

Probably the closest thing to my version is the old '94 Animated series just from lack of representation for him - the Hobie in Spider-Verse is a multiversal character, and Marvel's Prowler is the Ultimate version. Maybe we'll see a different Hobie in the third, but that aside it's mainly the older Animated series.

It's pretty much just stuff pulled from the comics themselves though. And then extrapolations from that.

In the comics his oldest brother Abraham, just as in my stuff, is Black Tiger (from the original run of Shang Chi's Deadly Fists of Kung Fu comics) who was based heavily on Jim Kelly's look from Enter the Dragon. According to those comics, Hobie and Abe are the youngest and oldest of eight brothers... but there's never been further world building on that, so I'm kind of playing there.

And expect to see the contrasting differences between how those two in particular approach the world, and the power they've afforded themselves to change it. They have an interesting relationship. Abe's the only one who's kind of not tied down to the rest of the family, but doesn't view them as not something to be responsible for.

Abe gets himself in trouble overstepping and throwing himself physically into problems. Hobie's mouth has often caused him life-changing issues.

I like the Randall intrigues as an addition to the larger narrative. It introduces the idea of technology corrupting K'un-Lun from the inside, provides a convenient plot device to allow Heavenly City travel between scheduled appearances on Earth, and sets up motivation for the Yu-Ti as a materialistic hedonist who just wants to enjoy the pleasures of Earth -- which in turn informs why Orson and later Danny were chosen to become the Iron Fist, thereby subverting the white savior trope.

For my personal tastes, having Wendell connected back to it all just makes the world feel a little small. And I suppose I lied earlier: making Davos a rival of Danny, and not Wendell, is another Netflix adaptation that I happily adopted. I don't think I even realized back when I first read Immortal Iron Fist that it wasn't Danny who usurped his right to the title.

Lemire's Moon Knight run was the first Moon Knight comic I read and it made me fall in love with the character.

Answering my own question, Luke Cage hasn't really had what I'd call a "definitive" solo run, but he's got a few great outings as a support/team player. Bendis has two solid runs using him in Alias and again in New Avengers, and while I've kinda come to loathe a lot of the silly-billy heckin' quirk-chungus style of comedy in a lot of modern comics, the 2016 Power Man and Iron Fist run was a lot of fun.

And while it's not about Luke Cage, I've been using TJ Combo's theme song from Killer Instinct to get the right mood going.

Which, I guess, can segue into another chat topic: your character's theme song/fight music.

Oh boy. I actually made a whole Moon Knight playlist when I was gonna play him in a Marvel Multiverse tabletop game that never came about. Here it is for those curious. If I were to pick out one song from that though, it'd be Turbo Killer.

I'll have to apologize if we ever pick up a Shang-Chi, but Run It by DJ Snake from the movie soundtrack fits the aesthetic too well not to use it for Iron Fist, too.
