Dirk Ryan [Ó Maoilriain]
Male
17
Dirk would look like any average teenager his age if not for the devil-like horns upon his head. They curve forward like the horns of a bull and sprout from a mess of stone-grey hair. His skin is as white as sand and eyes similar to his hair, steel-grey. His most notable feature is his face for it appears devoid of all emotion. He can stare for long periods without blinking and no one has seen him smile, frown, or even cry. For a seventeen-years-old, Dirk is rather tall. He stands 6'4" and weighs 1 ton. His body is covered in rippling muscle that could have been carved by a detailed sculptor. He tends to wear a white tank, blue jeans, boots or running shoes.
Dirk's personality is his most misleading characteristic. No one would suspect such a stoic young man to actually bear a human and sentient personality. Dirk tends to care for those who seem like they're struggling. He likes beautiful girls and isn't afraid to flirt with them even if they don't realize that is what he's doing. He will defend the weak and support those who stand up for others. Even when bearing such a personality, a lot of times, the favors Dirk does for others are overlooked. Because of the limitations of his Quirk, he doesn't expect to ever have a girlfriend. He is unable to express his emotions physically. He cannot smile, frown, or cry. He cannot hug others without them feeling as though they're hugging a statue or kiss them without them feeling only cold rock. Dirk's life is rather solitary and cold, just like a stone.
Dirk’s family, the Ryans, hail from Cork, Ireland. His father was an Irish hero deemed, The Emerald Knight, who defended the island from invasion. His quirk manifested when he was seven-years-old, and at first, the Ryans thought their boy may have encountered a mental trauma that caused him to become so stoic. Dirk felt normal despite being unable to express himself. He still felt the emotions a human would. His mother would weep over him, praying for him to come back to her to Dirk’s grief until the age of 13. At 13, Dirk noticed the horns that began to grow on his head. Being that his family was religious, he tried to chisel them off and wound up ruining several of his father’s tools. He resorted to wearing beanies to hide them, but it was only time before they found out.
The Ryans didn’t take it well. They thought the boy was demonized. Dirk was forced to undergo several holy water baths, anointing oil rituals, and endless scripture until finally the priest gave up, deeming him damned. Every year, his horns grew longer and longer until it was impossible to hide them. Overtime, Dirk stopped seeing his ailment as the problem his father and mother deemed. He figured that it was his quirk and that despite his devilish appearance, he was going to be a hero.
Dirk did some research and discovered the Hero Academy online. He figured that it was about time that he got a breather from his family and applied to the school.
Living Rock – Dirk’s quirk has given him stone-like properties. He does not bleed or secrete fluids. He does not need to breathe, drink, or eat. However, he does sleep, and when he sleeps, he is impossible to awaken until he naturally does so. He resembles the human he was before his quirk manifested, and is capable of aging as stone does, just slowly. With his horns, he believes himself to be a living gargoyle. He does not express emotions as normal humans would. His skin cannot be cut or bruised, but it can crack and shatter. He is heavier than most and slower, but with a good increase in momentum, he can build inertia to make himself a force that most wouldn’t want to try stopping. He bears no pressure points and others could actually hurt themselves if they attempt to throw their meaty limbs at him. He can take on the properties of other stones, but he doesn't really know that much about his quirk yet to be able to do so.
[ SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES ]
Wrecking Ball – Dirk can build up a good pace when running that will allow him to charge through the most solid of structures, tearing a hole right through them as he emerges out the other side.
Dead Weight – Dirk can resist being lifted by even the strongest of foes whether physically or mentally. He become like the mountain and roots himself to the ground, making himself immovable. This ability only works on rock-like surfaces such as marble, asphalt, cement, concrete, stone, etc. At least not at this time.
Above-Average Strength – Seeing as Dirk’s muscles cannot be stretched or sprained, his strength exceeds that of an Olympic human athlete.
Invulnerability – Unless a villain were strong enough to punch through stone, Dirk bears a natural invulnerability to most weapons such as swords, knives, small explosions, and small caliber rounds or pellets. He is a human barrier and will at times, use his dense body to stand before others, granting them cover.
Devastating Moves – Dirk does move a lot slower than others for he hasn’t quite adapted to the weight of his body, but if one were to get caught in a bear hug or catch a blow to the face from him, most opponents who lack the durability would be finished.
Sinkable – Liquids such as pools, quicksand, etc. would be his end. It is unknown whether Dirk could actually die after being submerged, but if the pool or quicksand had no ladders, ramps, or exits, then he could be stuck at the bottom (if there is one) forever.
Shatter – Some opponents may be strong enough to shatter his dense frame. Once shattered, unlike other heroes who may be healed easily by the school nurse, Dirk would have to be reassembled and placed into a kiln to heal.
Stoicism – Dirk is like a statue. He is unable to express the emotions he feels through his face. He might be able to lay a hand on a person’s shoulder to demonstrate sympathy, but without the expression to go with it, most are usually just creeped out. He cannot cry. He cannot frown or express rage. Due to this inability, he feels that he will never find love.
Destructive – The bigger they are, the harder they fall…well, he’s not entirely big but when he falls, he falls hard, shattering the ground or floor at impact. When he runs, he usually leaves imprints into the ground behind him, which on a nice floor or well-paved road costs serious money to fix. He is careful about where he swings his arms and how much strength he exerts to perform a simple task such as opening a door. Unfortunately, these simple things are a work in progress.
Gargoyle's Sleep - Unlike the gargoyle's of legend who fall asleep at sunrise. Because Dirk is human, when he sleeps, he cannot be stirred or awakened. So if there is an emergency, he just might be screwed, sleeping through it. He is vulnerable when asleep, being unable to awaken by disturbances or jarring that would normally awaken a human. He can only naturally awaken when his body is ready to. No one knows exactly why this is, but it could be due to his quirk.
