Josephine Clark

Location: The Museum
Skills: Memorization

Josephine was pretty proud of herself. Granted, she was proud of herself on a daily basis, but she felt good knowing she had a leg up over the Lord Major in this instance. She remembered really well what they needed. In fact, her memory skills were finely tuned. She remembered what Lady Munn and that other girl were talking about. It made sense now why they were looking for the thing.

"We are looking for a crate. It should have symbols on it. Having to do with Bastet. Not sure what that is though, but hopefully you can piece that bit together?" Josephine knew, of course, but she did love playing the damsel. She had a perfect image in her head of the symbols needed, but she wasn't about to let the Lord Major squirm out of this one.

As if on cue, a loud, crashing sound was heard. While other women may have jumped at the sound, Josephine was not startled. It did give her pause though. "Goodness, that startled me so! What happened?" She put her hand to her forehead in mock surprise.

Nora Kingston

Location: Permit Office
Skills: N/A

Nora felt the chill of disappointment and resignation flood her system as the officer dismissed them without even truly listening. She had given an able explanation of the mathematical intrigue behind the site, one that she was confident even the uneducated layperson could understand. She was certain that it wasn't an intellectual barrier that was in her path, but a societal one. Her dissatisfaction with society had led her to self imposed isolation and resignation at this point. Yet she felt those feelings turn from dejection to frustration and drive, with Lady Munn acting as the catalyst as she prevented the window from closing.

She stared the man down as Lady Munn spoke her piece this time, before positively beaming as they received the permit. She had never felt this empowered before. Had she been alone, she would have simply left and gone home, working on whatever math problem she had selected for amusement. Yet here was proof that her gender did not have to be a limitation - that the society constructions were not all inhibiting. Despite the annoyance and frustration the man caused, Nora had never quite felt so satisfied with life. Her hope had been restored.

"Well done, Lady Munn," Nora said earnestly. "You have my compliments - I must confess I thought our efforts had been futile after his clear rejection, but you...That was a remarkable display." And with the permit, she imagined they had already overcome the largest of their hurdles. She recalled the matter of finances for the expedition had already been sorted. And with this renewed vigor and confidence, she no longer felt obligated to seek her father's approval. If he was cross with her for going on the expedition, so be it.

Dirigible

The sun was high over the sands surrounding Cairo, dunes painting shadows with undulations of differing hues; blues and purples mostly, casting their irregular shapes across the Sahara. The view from above was spectacular. One could look in certain directions and see no sign of human presence, just beige-white sand stretching to meet the sky in the distance, alternately hazy in the heat or as clear as spring water while moderately cooling breezes swept across. Looking back to the city, it had all of the industrious appearance of a well ordered anthill, alive with the personal and commercial comings and goings of people from many, many walks of life.

The Nile cut its way northward, the oldest and most permanent highway of northern Africa. It was this landmark that the dirigible followed, its swift but remarkably smooth flight running parallel to the great river. The craft itself was not particularly large, about the size of a fishing skiff without the large, multichambered, hydrogen-filled inflatable above. There were structures that resembled fore and aft castles, were it a larger ship, though the fore was mostly for shelter and sleep, while the aft was a passable engine house. It launched rather quickly at the behest of someone important back in Cairo. The object was to head northeast, into the verdant grounds of the Nile River Delta and to the city of Port Said for proper outfitting and provisioning before the big push halfway across the Mediterranean Sea to the island of Cyprus. From there, the dirigible's only two passengers had the option of securing alternate transportation or staying with the balloon overnight, its eventual destination far north in Anglican country.

The master of this particular vessel was an older man, approximately seventy-five to one hundred and ten years of age to look at him. A slender, stork-like fellow who constantly wore a raincoat and had a lit pipe in his mouth, speaking around it in such a way as to make his precariously garbled accent sound even less like he was an Englishman, which he claimed to be. Though he smelled lightly of elderberries, the old man had a firm handshake and glint of hardened steel in his eyes. He spoke with confidence in himself and his craft, and insisted that he was ready to fly, and on the immediate. It was all they needed to know. His two passengers were on board before the manifest's ink was dry, joyous about the opportunity awaiting them in England.

It was a chance at a new beginning for Aziza, and chance to try again at life. Regroup, gain influence, and maybe, just maybe have a decent shot at getting her son back. It would also be a new beginning for Harry; a long life of quiet study and reflection if he so desired, far away from the guns and bombs of his past. There was hope riding along with them, high above the water and sands of Egypt.

A half hour out of Cairo, the pair of them were vaguely aware of sudden turbulence. The winds seemed calm and they were puttering forward at a decent clip thanks to the dirigible's main, rear-facing propeller. But still, the dirigible seemed to be shaking and listing starboard. It was very strange. The shipmaster was nowhere to be seen at this time. He couldn't have gone into the forecastle, that would have meant passing Aziza and Henry - a thing which he most assuredly did not do. But he was the authority on this boat, such as it was. If there was a problem, he should know how to handle it. Harry assured Aziza that he would locate the man and see to the difficulty, so she needn't worry. What happened next...

Harry was about five or so feet from the door to the aftcastle when he noticed the smoke. It was only a wisp or two, curling around the doorframe. Nothing much. But in there was also where the shipmaster kept the canisters of compressed hydrogen, and if one of those ignited? The two of them would learn firsthand whose holy book from their childhood was correct. Bravely, Harry grasped the doorhandle and pulled. Then he immediately wished that he had not.

The elderly shipmaster was located. He was a foot and a half from the door, laying unmoving on his back. His eyes were wide and bloodshot, teeth cracked and broken around the stem of his pipe which was still held firmly in place. One hand reached for the door while the other was twisted into a rigid claw, grabbing at his chest as if he might tear out his own heart. He was aflame from the knees down, but that was purely because the rest of the room was from that point back. The engine bucked and sputtered, thick with oil-based residue set alight by unknown means. The hydrogen canisters were present, all the way in the back of the room and while not burning, they were beginning to visibly swell in the heat. The door's sudden opening gave the fire inside a flush of new air to fuel itself, flaring up and sending Harry stumbling backwards into the main, open area of the skiff body. Shock kept him from feeling the horrid burns that marred much of his exposed skin, a tiny blessing in the grand scheme of things.

He tried to call for Aziza. Whether or not his words were intelligible, she dashed to be by his side immediately. The fire had grown to fully encase the engine room, dashing hope of getting to the tanks with any chance of survival. Fear set in. They were vastly too high to jump, nothing to slow their descent. It was merely a question as to what would take them first: The fire, or the unforgiving mistress known as gravity. Harry looked to the dancer, a woman who, even facing clear mortality, was the most heavenly creature he had ever known. They had gotten out, damnit. They were going to make it. They would have a life and a love for the ages. Live in a grand estate. In time, they would raise beautiful children. Harry wanted a daughter. He would name her after his mother, and she would have the same eyes as Aziza, same bronze skin, same lovely hair. They all would face whatever problems that fate threw at them together, standing strong and proud of who they were. But he had never even gotten the opportunity to tell her that he loved her. That he didn't care how little of a time they had known each other, she had come to mean so very much to him.

If ever there was a moment in this lifetime, it was now. His voice croaked out something garbled, barely even heard over the roar of the flames behind them. Ropes began to snap, released from their moorings by the fire. The dirigible shuddered. Time was running out. Harry coughed, gasping slightly at how much it hurt to do so. But he would not be denied this one thing, not for a lack of trying. Trembling hands reached up to caress her face, one horribly marked by heat. Determination rose within Harry, and even though his body protested the use of his voice, he pushed through every letter of every word that he possibly could. Tears streaming from his eyes, he was finally able to rasp out:

"Aziza Tarek, I lo-"

The sound of compressed hydrogen expanding into fire is deafening. Neither one of them even had time to scream.

Reginald Keystone

Location: The Museum (Archives)
Skills: N/A

Reginald was aware that Josephine was speaking to him. He could very clearly make out the words "Crate", "Symbols", and "Bastet", which would have been more than enough to work with on any other day. But today was special, apparently. Regardless of his ordinarily sharp mind's ability to process new information, he just couldn't seem to keep a rational thought in his head. He was not senile, nor was he stupid. The Lord Major was a crack pilot, not to mention a superior mechanic and a man well-learned in the sciences of Engineering and Aeronautics. He had earned the position he received, it was not handed to him because of his parentage. Ok, his becoming an officer might have been handed to him that way, but his advancement was a product of his own accomplishments, paid for many times over with inspired service and blood. Yet for some reason, this educated, decorated man of experience couldn't retain a single line of words spoken more or less correctly in his native language. This was not the best day ever.

The sound of a crash snapped Reginald out of whatever mental hiccup he was having at that moment. This was not the noise of a person who had dropped a single teacup. This was loud. But oddly, for a sound quite as scattered and noisy as a crate full of archived materials finding its way earthward, the initial slamming sound upon the floor seemed like it should have been louder. Peculiar happening, that. In the distance, he could barely make out that it was speech but nothing more. Josephine had just posed another query, one that he was able to pick up and to which he could respond rather readily. "Why, I've not the foggiest what happened. It sounds like quite the disturbance, does it not?" And then calling louder, so that his voice might be heard across the Archives, "Oh I say, is everyone still functioning? I should hope that everything is still in order, lest the Museum have someone's head over it!"

Museum: "Eleven sounds perfect, lunch, my treat," Rosheen said brightly as she leaned over and then gave Mosi a kiss on the cheek. A bit of a wink and then she was off, tearing up the sidewalk as she made her way back to the street. Many people were yelling after her but she didn't even bother to look back.

"It seems you are finding many new things to do while you are in town ma'am," a voice crept up from behind. Akhmed smiled broadly towards Mosi as he adjusted his tie slightly. "I hope you have been enjoying yourself, though from the looks of things i would say you are," he seemed to ease lightly.

Things in the archives were not going as pleasantly as they were on the street above. Neema flung herself back against the shelves and rose her arm quickly to keep any debris from lodging itself into her face. Gasping out as Haakons light was snuffed out. As the dust settled she stepped forward slightly. The leg lamp rolling back and forth slightly in the blood that was pooling up on the floor from beneath the crate.

'القرف المقدس!' she yelled out before she stepped around the mess and away from the shelving. Looking up quickly to where the crate had come from just as she was hearing others yell and asking what happened. "Be with Allah..." she said quietly before calling out to the others. "A crate fell, Haakon, on Haakon!"

Grabbing her purse Vera stared the man down between the window pane that now separated them. His eyes were narrowing and it was more than obvious he was furious over the entire thing. There were many ways that the Lady could have responded. Apologized for her out burst would have been at the top of the list in the ton. That she dare speak out the way she had, especially with a threat. She could have hung her head and simply turned away. Backed away in fear. Yet she did none of these. She narrowed her eyes back at the man and stuck her tongue out at him.

With that she shoved the permit in her purse and turned on her heels. "Let us be off then," she said to Nora and bee lined it for the hallway. She had heard what Nora had said but she couldn't respond. Not yet. It wasn't until they were in the hallway that she finally stopped and did. Her knees buckling slightly as she gripped the wall and took some very long and deep breaths.

"I have no idea what came over me... I am so sorry for my actions, I hope it does not reflect poorly on your Lady Kingston... I mean Nora," she said in a trembling voice as she reached up and brushed a few curls out of her face with her clutch. Whatever nerve she had with dealing the permit officer was gone and out the window. "Bloody hell, I believe I may faint..." she added as she fanned herself and glanced around. She was glad the office was closing up. The halls were rather empty right then and she didn't see anyone of British decent other than Nora that was with her. Last thing she needed was this getting back to the Curator.

At first Mosi looked at Rosheen with a little bit of a surprise as the woman kissed her cheek and then there was also the tease feeling friendly wink before the woman was gone with her motorbike. She drove off as wild as they had arrived, causing indeed many to protest, but Priscilla couldn't do anything else, but smile widely, laughing softly from amusement an to approve of Rosheen's behavior. What's more she really enjoyed the kiss on her cheek. With pleasant thoughts, she reached a hand to touch the place. Yes, so far this was turning out to be the best day ever! It trumped even that one morning she... nahh she promised to the nuns to not think of those events... though the precise words were repent.

“That I have, Akhmed. So far it's been turning among the best days if not the best.” She replied, still smiling brightly from the recent events and the building joy of this new place. And to think some of her family proposed he takes a trip to a monastery... permanently! Here was way better.” Please no need to call me ma'am. I'm not a married woman nor of age to be called that.”

“I see that we have gathered at the appointed time after all.” Mosi mentioned with a smile, studying the man for a moment out of professional artist curiosity mostly.” So do we walk to the place? ” She asked with curious voice, looking about.

Lauren Ridgeway

Location: The Museum, The Archives Room

Lauren looked over towards Mahendra and gave him a bright smile when he managed to find another one of the crates that they were looking for, so far the aisle that she had picked seemed to be the lucky one. "Please, just call me Lauren, i'm not royalty or anything like that." She said as she listened to Mahendra speaking about some of his past, she did remember him mentioning that he also served during the war when he was speaking to Reginald earlier. "Lets grab another cart shall we?" Lauren asked that's when she heard a loud crashing sound which made her jump suddenly, she wasn't expecting the sound to be so incredibly loud. When she looked up and down the aisle she was glad that nothing had broken down on her end.

Then she heard Reginald's voice asking if they were alright. "Mahendra and I are fine!" Lauren called out, when she then heard Neema's voice. A crate had fallen on Haakon. She quickly turned around and started to run over towards the aisle that she had heard the crashing sound coming from. When she saw the lamp shaped lamp, along with the pool of blood that was under the now destroyed crate Lauren quickly looked away. "Holy fucking shit!" Lauren said loudly cringing at the sight of blood before her, she wasn't expecting this to happen at all as Lauren approached Neema to see if the older woman was alright, she hadn't seen this much blood ever in her life or even seeing a dead person's body. "Are you okay Neema?" Lauren asked, as she tried to avoid looking at the body that was before her.

The friendly words from Lauren could not keep Mahendra away from the chaos that attracted the attention of everyone in the archives, even if he felt humbled by her kind attitude towards him. After the immense crash of...something heavy, the others too called out asking for each other's safety, signalling that none had actually been hurt. At least that was the immense hope of Mahendra, until he heard Neema's words loud and clear; Haakon had been hit by a crate. "By the power of Krishna, please let him be okay..." Mahendra quietly prayed as he began to follow Lauren. Hopefully he was just knocked out cold.

What he instead found in front of him and Lauren right in the middle of the rows, was anything but hopefull. Beside the apparently randomly placed leg lamp, stood the massive crate. And beside that...well, underneath and all around was a pool of something red. Blood. The hope that Mahendra had prayed for not moments ago, subsided in an instant as the revelation of Haakon's condition came to him. Lauren had already sweared, but that didn't stop him. "পবিত্র শিট, indeed Lauren..." Mahendra said, slowly walking towards the box as if it was a dangerous Bengali tiger that could pounce at him any moment. He had seen death before, but that was long ago so he did feel uneasy. Still, he kneeled down and tried to see what was left of Haakon. "He's dead, I am afraid!"

Josephine Clark

There was nothing that could prepare Josephine for what she would witness. She wasn't expecting anything more than a toppled crate as she rushed with the Lord Major to the scene. She scooted her way through. "Goodness, what happened? We heard a crash. Is everyone all ri..." She stopped her sentence when she noticed the crate. The blood. And then the body.

The others around her looked ill themselved, but Josephine put her hand to her mouth and looked positively green. "No..." Tears began to fall. Unlike her crocodile tears she was so good at spilling, these were real. Her one true friend here, the one tha stuck by her from the onset, the one who she trusted above all others was gone. An accident, of course, but that didn't matter. "No, Haakon! No you can't be dead. You can't!" Josephine began to weep heavily now, almost falling to the ground as she tried to steady herself. her breathing began to be heavier as she tried to calm herself.

She had lost her closest ally. She was now alone.

Reginald Keystone

Location: The Museum (Archives)

"Oh, my sweet and merciful Darjeeling..." spoke Reginald in a subdued voice. He felt like a positive heel for his words just prior, about the Museum having someone's head over the incident. As it turned out, someone was already deprived of their need for a head, except as a point of postmortem aesthetics. This was unfortunate. Upon realizing who it was that had just finished the last day of their life, he felt a little guilty. Reginald had already conditionally threatened the man's life and freedom once that day, and before in manners subtle and not-so-subtle. Now here he lay, quite unliving, and the Lord Major derived not an ounce of pleasure from it.

It looked to hit Josephine hard. Of course it would, those two were thick as thieves and had certain curiosities in common. For all of their more vexing qualities, they were friends. Probably the closest thing the two of them had in the entire country of Egypt was each other. While Reginald did not share her depth of feeling for the man, he did most certainly have a gnawing streak of gentlemanly nature. And this had to be truly shocking for the Starlet, as made apparent by an outburst of emotion that was either magnificent acting, or more likely, genuine grief.

As she began to weep in earnest and became unsteady on her feet, Reginald gently took her arm and allowed her to use him as a post to lean upon, if she needed. "Come along now, a lady need not see these things. Let us return to the main area and contact the local authorities. Find a spot to sit down and process, perhaps something warming to sip upon while we wait, hmm?" The Lord Major motioned back the way they had come, suggesting aloud, "I am certain one of our Fellowship can tend to the crate in our absence."

Nora quickly followed after Lady Munn, finding herself quite perplexed as Lady Munn seemingly collapsed against the wall, her knees giving out ever so slightly and her breathing hardly steady. It was as if Lady Munn had only a finite amount of strength and courage within her and it had all been expended in order to get that permit. Nora's eyes glanced up and down the hallway, confirming that there was no one else in sight. She doubted that Lady Munn wished to be seen presently. "There is nothing that you need apologize for, Lady Munn," Nora reassured her.

"I always found that fainting spells could be easily remedied by placing oneself in a seated position," Nora recommended, holding out her hand as to help Lady Munn steady herself. She had spent a large portion of her childhood in the various stages of illness, which included a fair amount of time feeling as if she was on the verge of fainting - either that or about to lose whatever meager meal she had been served. "Yet Lady Munn, I must commend you for your actions. You did nothing that you should feel ashamed for. You secured the permit that we need in order to undertake this expedition and to uncover the source of all of these perplexities."

"And with Peter's return, it is hardly surprising that you should find yourself a bit frazzled," Nora said quietly. "It is rare for our loved ones to escape from certain death." Nora would know. She had lost a brother in the war.

Museum: Neema took a step back and then another before making her way down the isle some just to get away from the blood that was pooling out from under the crate. "He was searching for a slip of paper in his pocket and suddenly the crate fell off the top shelf and crashed in onto him. Was the most peculiar thing," Neema said s she watched the crimson flowing on the ground. As Mahendra said he was dead it took a lot in her to say the Egyptian version of no shit Sherlock.

Looking over at Lauren she nodded. "Yes, I am fine. Well as fine as one can be right now. Let us go upstairs back to Lady Munns office. I believe we should leave the archieves for the night. Mahendra will need to inform the Curator and the constable of the incident," Neema said as she stood there. Glancing up her eyes narrowed slightly, walking over to the rack she gave it a rather firm hip bump. The shelving didn't wobble a bit. She took note of it before looking over at Josephine. "Oh dear, yes, let's get her up stairs. I have some spirit in my bag we can add to some tea. It will calm the nerves."

Ahkmed laughed a bit. "Very well Mosi, take my arm then? Or are you to young for that?" he teased as he offered his arm. "We have some time before we..." he said before being cut off as a black roped figure bumped into him and ran passed him. "Hey!" he yelled before noting the person was running away from the museum. The museum was closed, no one but staff should have been inside. That person wasn't the right height or weight to be anyone that would have been inside. The figure jumped on a motor cycle and sped off down the street and was lost in the crowds of traffic.

"Come with me, stay close," he told Mosi before darting back into the museum. Something was wrong.

Vera

Vera nodded slightly as she took a deep breath. She had done what they had set out to do. They now had the permit they needed for the expedition. That meant as soon as the Lord Major got everything together they could depart. This was what she had hoped would be the most difficult part of the day. Little did she know just what was going down at the museum. Yet her mind was not on the museum or what could or could not be happening right then. It was on Peter as Nora mentioned him. She suddenly felt far worse than she had when facing the man down for the permit.

"Yes, it has been a rather interesting day has it not. Let us be on our way. Our gentlemen should be waiting on us outside," she said trying to focus more on George in her mind than on Peter. Not having to worry about Peter helped. Focusing on George seemed to calm her as she gathered her wits about her and began to head out of the building. She felt her nerves creeping up again when they reached the door. Hopefully Peter would lead Nora once again, she for some reason did not want to have to face Peter one on one right then. It sent a knot into the pit of her stomach. Odd as it was, thinking of George did not. She figured it was simply because George was not the one courting her. Not that she should mind Peters courtship but something was off.

Looking around as they stepped outside Vera quirked a brow. Neither of the men were anywhere to be seen. Stepping off and to the side she kept looking around. "I say, I thought they would have returned by now. Should we wait or should we start back?" she asked Nora as she made her to tuck the permit away for safe keeping. Peter not being there was odd, the man was never late. He was British after all.

Lauren followed Neema for a little bit as she took a look at the body for a moment before looking away, the sight was really gruesome for her, as her attention turned towards Josephine. Seeing the woman breaking down Haakon and her must have been pretty close now in their short time together. Closing her eyes she took a deep sigh as she ran a hand through her hair, she didn't want to be in the archive rooms for much longer, at least they now found something that they needed. Lauren wasn't sure how many were left by they managed to find two of them at least with the help of Mahendra.

"Managed to find two of the crates in the aisle that I was looking at, want me to bring it up, or leave it to someone else to grab it?" Lauren asked, then the thought of tea and just being far away from the archives was a pretty good idea in her mind. Lauren then approached Josephine, she didn't know the starlet all that well, but she was more then willing to try and cheer the woman up or help her out however she could. "We should leave." Lauren said softly towards her.

As more and more of the group gathered in that narrow row, Mahendra felt the tragic scene slowly but surely sink in for him; a known man was dead. And for the American starlet, the realization that she had lost a dear friend; what actress could possibly fake the true sense of grief that she displayed right then and there? With the others starting to tend to Josephine, Mahendra felt convinced that the tears were real. He himself felt of little to no use in taking care of a lady however, leaving that more or less to the others.

Mahendra's eyes once again fell on the lifeless body, lying in its own pool of blood underneath that divine crate of death. He couldn't help but feel a little frightened of the whole situation; sure they were in an old archive with plenty of crates stacked up high, but for one so massive to suddenly fall and kill a seemingly innocent man? To the superstitious Bengali, this smelled like bad karma, being more than unlucky, or something...something much worse. A shiver going down his spine, Mahendra didn't want to look at Haakon again like this, and did something he perhaps would regret later; taking of his jacket, quickly emptying the most important valueables, and covering Haakon with the jacket. At least now he was covered from prying eyes.

"Yes, agreed. The crates can wait until later. I'll go and inform Mr. Kohns of the...circumstances. I can take the crates afterwards, if the police will allow me." Mahendra spoke to the group in general, perhaps more so to Neema and Lauren directly. He understood that the crates they were originally searched for were important, but more than the sudden and tragic demise of the journalist? "I'll meet you in Lady Munn's office as soon as I can." Mahendra said quickly to the rest of the Fellowship, as the Lord Major called them, before making his way past them and quietly saying to Josephine "I'm...I'm sorry...", then heading for the door.

Mosi couldn't help but laugh as she right away took his arm.” I'm not some pretty young innocent dame, Akhmed. I've had my own fair share of grown up moments.” She laughed softly as she did so. He liked the man so far, he appeared to have rather fun and natural personality. Mosi felt like they could form a rather good friendship. Taking his arm was more of a formality than anything really, besides it was also to prove his statement wrong so nothing bad about it. With a smile she followed until the moment the shadowy robed figure bumped into him, before running off on a bike of all things.

It set her curiosity flags that something is going on and she quickly darted after Akhmed.” Right, after you then.” She smiled widely, keeping right behind him as she did, looking about, studying the surroundings. Since that one ran away in a hurry or rather escaped, chances were good something was done. She wondered if it was a heist, wouldn't surprise her. Then again the escapee wasn't carrying anything visible so if something was stolen it wouldn't be big on the volume front. Or maybe it was something else entirely? She had no idea, but sure enough was curious about it as she can be. This was going to make a good story if nothing else." Was that a theif or somethign? Isn't there security in the museum?" She asked, wondering why non were chasing that person, given how fast they legged it.

It wasn't like Jo to break down. She had her share of hardships in the past, sure. Family passing away, losing out on a role she desperately wanted. All had been dealt with. However, she had very few friends here. She had no one here to guide her or help her. She had those she had only been recently acquainted with, but she wouldn't strive to call them friends. If anything, she was merely along for the ride as a matter of circumstance.

But Haakon. Haakon was different. He was sweet, if a bit naive, but he was solid. A man she could trust wasn't here just to get the scoop on her or to land her in bed. She had entertained both ideas, sure, but he was different. And now he was gone.

Jo tried her best to pick herself back up but was thankful for the hands that brought her to her feet. She looked at the Lord Major in a new light. Perhaps it was her finally showing true emotion. She nodded her thanks and sniffled some more before allowing herself to be led back upstairs and away from the gruesome sight. It wasn't the blood that worried her. Or the fact it was a dead body. But a body of a dear friend? She couldn't bear that. And now she was in Egypt on her own.

She would find out the truth. For his sake.

Reginald Keystone

Location: The Museum (Archives)
Skills: N/A

The hip check that Neema gave to the shelving was a telling thing. A heavy crate stacked upon a stable shelf really only had the potential to fall if the shelf gave way, which it did not, or if it was acted upon by a force outside of itself. Something had to move the murderous crate. A proper investigator would be able to suss out the events of the hour. Reginald was not quite so much a crime solver as he was an old soldier. Right now, this old soldier had a social duty to perform, such as it was.

Concerning the offer to put something flammable into Josephine, Reginald flashed a warm smile as he assisted the starlet toward the exit, and hopefully back up to the main floor. He pat his chest, the report of a hollow metal sound indicating that he had something of his own to add to the young lady's tea, if she so desired a snort of more or less decent whiskey. Hell, he could go for three or so, himself. "Yes, Lady Munn's office sounds like the proper spot to clear our heads. If necessary, perhaps we might persuade the caretakers of this fine museum to lend us the use of lobby chairs, or some such, if necessary." Reginald sighed. He was still carrying that clipboard with the inventory request forms. With his free hand, he tucked the item into the back of his waistband, and continued giving Josephine an assist back upstairs.

Nora nodded, glad to see that Vera appeared to have regained her composure somewhat. Whether it was because they were once more about to venture out into the public eye or because her words had helped to calm her, Nora couldn't quite say. She walked with Vera towards the exit, noticing how Vera's nerves appeared to have become slightly more rattled. There was something wrong in her relationship with the Lord Captain - she couldn't help but assume that. Whether it was her place to broach the subject, or if it was one that Lady Munn wished to discuss, however, she couldn't know.

She stepped to the side with Lady Munn, looking into the street a bit quizzically. It didn't seem to be in either man's character to be late to an appointment. Perhaps, however, they had been held up? There were many distractions in the streets of Cairo - perhaps they had gone to do a little bit of sightseeing, a little bit of shopping or even purchased something to drink. Nora glanced up and down the street once more, debating as to what decision to make. Lady Munn's odd relationship with Peter was something that had become more and more obvious to her. Maybe it would be best if they returned to the museum?

"Something seems to have kept them," Nora finally said. "I do not believe there would be any harm in returning to the museum, as that is likely where they will head in search of us once they realized we had already obtained the permit," Nora suggested.

Museum: "Yes we do, why there shouldn't be anyone running out like that," Akhmed said as he rushed back into the museum. Something wasn't right. Reaching the door he had to pull his keys out to unlock the door and let them in. Once they both were inside he locked it behind him so that no one else could get in. Looking around he didn't see the security guard that was supposed to be at the front desk as long as their were people working in the museum. That was odd. Unless the man had gone to the bathroom he should have been there.

Neema nodded and started heading out of the archives. This wasn't good. "Let us get her upstairs, and get us all a drink of something," she said as she lead the way. She knew her way around the museum better than the rest of them did. She had worked there for years after all. "There is a couch and a couple of chairs in Lady Munn's office and a bench just outside of it. It should be enough," Neema said as she held open the door of the archives for them.

Once they were out of the archives, Neema quickly lead them up to the administration wing and to Veras office, the door was open - which was odd since it had been closed when they left. Stopping outside she looked over towards the rest of them as she pulled back one of the folds of her robes and drew a Khopesh. The woman could have been anywhere from fifty to 200 years old and belonged on a keychain and yet she was holding that weapon with as much familiarity as if she was holding a wooden spoon about to whoop her granchilds ass for running through the house once too many times.

The curator yelled out for Akhmed when he spotted him running through the museum. "What in the name of Pharaoh is going on?" he demanded to know. Running was not allowed in the museum, by anyone as far as he was concerned so to have his second in charge running through was very odd to him in deed.

"Come with me, stay close," he told Mosi before darting back into the museum. Something was wrong.

Vera looked around. Yes, that had to be it. They were just caught up. Granted it wasn't like Peter not to be very punctual. He was always on time if not early. Yet how well did she really know him anymore. It had been years and he had been through a war. It made her for the first time start to second guess her decision to let him court her. What if he wasn't the man she had known all those years ago anymore? Though that didn't mean it was a bad thing, change yet it did make her know that she really needed to get to know him again before she let things get any further.

Looking over to Nora she nodded and smiled a bit, even if nervously. "Yes, quite right. Let us go back to the museum. I am sure that Lord Keystone and Mr. Benaszewski are more than able to navigate their way back to the museum if we do not catch a glimpse of them on our way back," she said before she continued on her way. Part of her wished they were there, it would have made things simpler. Hopefully when they returned to the museum her uncle was not there and she wouldn't have to answer any questions to where Peter was now. Then again, not having a man with them did feel rather liberating.

"Now that we have the permit, as long as we can get everything situated, we could actually be on our way very quickly. I must admit I am very excited about all of this, even if it is surrounded by hokum. It should make for an interesting new adventure," she said as she nearly tripped over her own two feet but she managed to catch herself at the last moment and just kept walking. She was so used to being as she was, it was just second nature to pick herself up again.

“Hmm?” Mosi made a cutesy questioning sound as Akhmed mention the person he bumped into. It had completely slipped off her mind, mostly because she was currently remembering a certain redhead who kissed her cheek in the most of teasing manner, making her day that much better than it had already been! Yes it was truly a perfect desert tale so far and Mosi wouldn't have it any other way.' Was there such a person...eh?' She thought to herself as they entered the museum and she decided to say hell to it and focus on the situation at hand which was dark museum devoid of guards and not care about the past. There was going to be time to focus on the past later... probably.

“Lead on, I'm right behind you and got your back.” She replied with a huge smile, dashing after Akhmed. She mentally checked the sensation on her right leg, to confirm sensing the pressure of the knife that she had attacked there. It was only one of her weapons. Mosi preferred to be ready in case something happened so she never let herself without some kind of weapon on her. Never know when someone might try to cause problems with you. Besides pretty much everyone had weapons of some kind back in the states. Mind you women weren't usually the ones with weapons, among her own female friends there were many who preferred to have men protect them, but not her. She loved all things cold weapons and also chicken races.

Lauren Ridgeway

Location: The Museum, The Archives Room -> Outside of Vera's Office.
Skills: N/A

Lauren gave Mahendra a slight nod, as much as she wanted to make sure that they had what they came for, this was now a scene when Neema gave the shelf a bump and looking up she also noticed that there wasn't any breaks or anything that made the crate fall down on Haakon. She did feel bad for the man, as well as Josephine. They did seem to be pretty close, Lauren decided to follow shortly behind Neema out of the archives room, she stopped for a moment to look at Mahendra as he went to cover up the body of Haakon. She should have gotten to know the man a little bit more. "See you in a bit then." Lauren said giving him a slight smile.

As they made their way up back towards Vera's office Lauren stuck close to Neema when they got towards the door, she noticed that the door was ajar which was weird. Lauren watched Neema pulling out what looked like a weird looking sword, she hadn't even noticed her carrying the thing either. "Maybe the curator was in there for a bit to get something from there?" Lauren asked softly.
