Fortunately for Orchid the little lizard was easy to scare away. While she has no doubts she could kill it, fighting was the last thing on her mind right now. She just wanted to get out of here and form all of this madness. As she approached Orchid spotted a rather strange looking egg, or something like it, just on the ground. "Did a lizard lay this egg? I think reptiles lay eggs...." Orchid was about to go check it out when suddenly it hatched. She put her shield in front of her and got ready for a fight, only to see what was inside was not a mere lizard. But some sort of tiny-sized dragon. Was this the same one that Orchid was looking for?

Yes, yes she was. Apparently her name was Ash. Made Orchid remember she never told the lizard her name. She also deduced that Orchid was also formerly human, which the goblin nodded towards. "My name is Orchid. Formerly human... I think we all were once human in this cave. Some of us become monsters more easily than others." She says as she motions down the cave where the sound of fighting could vaguely be heard.

Also turns out that lizard was Ash's pet. Orchid couldn't really feel any regret about that; she was frankly tired of all of this fighting and just wanted to build, dammit. Still she at least tried to say something. "Sorry. It's been... Harrowing. I don't trust the goblins anymore than anyone else here, but to just attack them entirely... Ugh. At this point I don't even care what happens to them anymore." It was then that Orchid received some system messages, one telling her about her leveling up and another regarding some change to the environment. "What the hell?"

Orchid gave a quick look through the skills available, her skill points, and weighed her options. She wanted to learn fireball but frankly even if she poured all of her skill points into it, she won't be able to use it immediately if she needed to hit a 1 at the very least. There were other skills she could level up instead, simple but useful. But she needed something new. Something different. Something unexpected. So she put four points into Taboo and the rest of the three into Fireball. Next time she levels up perhaps she could put the rest of her points into it, but right now she needed a new ability. She just hoped Taboo was a good one. Aside from that, there was also some sort of change in the environment. It didn't sound like it was a major change, but she didn't like how Death became a secondary element. She didn't need to know much about to this world to wonder if zombies were going to start popping up, which they no doubt will considering how many dead bodies were around here.

Ash wanted to leave. "Same. From what I've been told, there are holes around here that are large enough to provide both illumination and ventilation in this cave. I doubt we can just go out from the cave's main entrance, we'll either run into other humans or the goblins, so we'll have to go through those holes." Orchid raised her torch into the air to see if there was any holes here they could use to climb out of. As she did so Orchid did have a few suggestions and warnings. "The things outside of this cave is stronger than the other monsters. Big animals with tougher hides and deadlier weapons. But unlike this cave, plenty of material for me to work with. I... I have a few goblins that I think might be loyal to me. Maybe with your help, I could convince them that we can all leave this cave. Maybe even seal it to keep those other pesky warmongers out of our hair." Orchid was mostly saying this out of spite, so she shook that thought aside.

"But we don't need to risk it if you don't want to. More cooks spoil the soup after all. In any case it looks like you have wings. Can you fly? Hold a torch too?"

Asura raised an eyebrow at the system message that just swarmed all over his mind. He had leveled up, had a god chunk of points to play with, and now he could evolve. Interesting choices from the evolutions. Some of them he even expected but there were a couple that intrigued him. Specifically Metal Slime and Amorphous Slime. Each had their pro's and con's.

The metal slime was undoubtedly slower and didn't raise damaging stats very quickly, but it's whole body could be turned into a weapon of actual sharpness and it probably had some of the highest defenses of all the slimes.

Amorphous had the speed and easiest shape changing but didn't do well in water and it probably didn't get as much in the defense department as any other slime due to its liquidy nature.

Both options were interesting but he disliked the idea of humans trying to steal him to bring him to some market. He remembered a game series he played, Dragon Quest, and how he actively hunted metal slimes and others of its kind for the massive experience drops they gave because of how much of a bitch it was to actually kill and find one. He really didn't need that to happen.

" Seven points into Harder. Five points into Counter." He stated to get his kills out of the way while he continued to hack at Rattleskull's neck. A pseudopod popped out and touched Mother Slime to let her know he was going to be evolving and not to worry. Just...keep an eye out to keep him safe and that the goblin corpses were free to eat.

While he was doing this everyone was running about all helter skelter to get to some point in the cave that was turning into a dungeon. He'd see what this all looked like once he...awoke? Whatever, he mentally poked the Amorphous Slime option.

It seemed that all the effort Oberon had put into Magic Analysis was paying dividends as he was bombarded with more information than he knew what to do with, so much so that it gave him a bit of a headache as the new knowledge was forced into his brain.

The description of Fireball was simple, exceedingly so; 'a ball of fire conjured in a similar manner to a Mana Orb' was something he had already guessed himself, but the real advantage of using Magic Analysis was knowing what the fire-element mana looked like, what it felt like to his senses. Maybe he had enough information to recreate it now; he'd have to check later, once he was done teaching this Wisp some things.

The descriptions of Lesser Force and Meditation were a bit more promising, not to mention encouraging; grappling an opponent was exactly what he wanted to use Lesser Force for, though not directly if he could help it, and Meditation was a skill that he had already made some progress towards.

Before he could do anything else however, he was alerted to the fact that he had leveled up again following the battle with Rattleskull. He was level 5 now, with an excess of skill points to spend and a multitude of skills to use them on. His current skills were fine as they were, since every one of them was something he could actively practice if need be; his real interest was in his incomplete skills. Minor Regeneration was advancing, though not as quickly as he would have liked, he'd gained some experience towards Charisma somehow and Keen Sight was an interesting addition.

This was something he'd been thinking about this for a while now, in the back of his mind; how could he best spend his skill points? Spending them on any active skill seemed like a waste when he could gain experience through simple practice; it might take a while but it would save on a limited resource. It was better, in his mind, to save his skill points to spend on skills that he could not so easily train, such as passive abilities; Faster, Alert, Keen Sight and a few others were skills that he had no idea how to improve and likely wouldn't be complete for a while. He could also save his points for emergencies, only using them when he needed a new ability immediately like he had with Lesser Status Heal.

For the moment he would take a hybrid approach of the latter two options and spend some of his points on a potentially useful skill and save a few for an emergency. However, that wasn't the only thing that leveling up had brought him; there were evolution options as well. Thinking back to the green Slime with the conical-shaped protrusion and the rocky growth, Oberon began to understand that it must have been an evolved version of the basic Slime.

The options presented to him were... interesting, to say the least. An adult Pixie was expected he supposed, but the other three? Imp and Sprite seemed about as disparate creatures as he could imagine at this level and Hipixie was something he had never even heard of before. They all looked tempting for different reasons, whether that be increased power and the admittedly interesting 'demon affinity', increased mana capacity and the just as interesting 'light affinity' or the ability to use light equipment. Which was the better option right now?

Or maybe... should he be thinking so short term? What was best right now might limit him in the future; the creature he chose as his starting class undoubtedly affected his evolution options right now, so whatever option he picked would determine his path for the rest of this life, at least to some extent. He shouldn't just be looking at the first step, but the whole journey that lay beyond.

So which paths were presented to him? The Imp? It was a demonic creature, a lesser fiend of some kind, so it would probably open up the path towards stronger demons and other hellish creatures; while he could certainly see himself becoming very powerful if he took that route, did he really want to become a demon of all things in this new life? The answer to that was simple.

And what about the Hipixie? It was a Fey creature, the first "True Fey" according to this. That meant nature spirits, druid-like abilities and later on... what exactly? It was a path that Oberon couldn't see very far down honestly, not to mention the fact that he didn't like the idea of giving up the ability to fly and he couldn't see much immediate need for light equipment.

That left the Sprite and it's 'Light Affinity'. In Oberon's mind that meant divine magic and the beginning of the path towards the celestial realm; angels could be just as strong as demons after all, and the transformation was a lot less morally dubious. In addition, the extra mana was an attractive prospect as were the bonuses to his healing abilities.

Turning to Danny and Ardur, Oberon excused himself before walking a few feet away from the group. "Sorry, can you excuse me a moment. I need to deal with something." Once somewhat alone he carefully read through his options before making his choice. "8 points into Alert and... I'll choose Sprite."

YOUR BODY IS BEGINNING TO CHANGE! You are undergoing Transformation! Based on your life experiences, your ability to survive, and the strength of your will, new paths have appeared! Choose carefully--there is no going back! WARNING. THIS PROCESS WILL LEAVE YOU TEMPORARILY VULNERABLE.

OPTIONS (* Indicates Suitability):
*(Adult) Dire Rat - Dire Rats are quite large and strong for rodents, with sharp senses. They are predator scavengers, and because their teeth constantly grow they forage and gnaw constantly. Their forepaws are somewhat capable of gripping and manipulating, but they aren’t very skilled. Rats often hunt in packs, composed of family units, but the mothers will often drive off the fathers as they will behave aggressively towards the young.
  • Slight Increase to all Base Stats
  • Increase HP
  • Increase Potential

*(Immature) Giant Rat - Giant Rats are rodents of such unusually large size, many people don't believe they exist. Their behaviors are virtually the same as the Dire Rat, but they often shed many of the usual "prey" animal behaviors of rats due to their much greater size and strength rendering them difficult for predators to bring down. As a result they can often be quite calm, and some humans even keep them as pets.
  • Increase to base defense-stats
  • Increase HP
  • Increase Beast Sense (reduced)

**(Immature) Rat-Man - Through some magical quirk of evolution, these rodents have gained primate features. Roughly the same size as Goblins, though tending towards much thinner and more agile bodies and often still running on all fours, Rat-Men are capable of using tools and weapons. They often gather into large hordes, and seek hidden places near other groups of creatures--such as humans--in order to steal food and valuables from them. Their sharp senses of smell and dextrous fingers make them proficient crafters and alchemists, though they also show addictive tendencies with their own products.
  • Increase to base power-stats.
  • Increase to Use Light Equipment (reduced)
  • Increase Beast Sense (reduced)

(Immature) Mongrel - It is hard to define this creature as a rodent, a feline, or a canine, though it possesses traits of all three. Some speculate it is some kind of primitive, common ancestor to many carnivorous monsters today such as the Dire Wolf, but that raises the question of how it continues to exist? As a Beast-type monster in the truest sense, it has low levels of intelligence and is so aggressive it can barely form mating pairs with its own species. However, its strong jaws and claws are not to be underestimated, and it is much faster than it appears.
  • Increase to power-stats
  • Increase to speed-stats
  • Increase Beast Sense (reduced)

Ed slightly flinched at the sudden system notification while he was resting. He was about to read the message when suddenly, another notification popped into his mind.

A DUNGEON CORE HAS FORMED. ASSIMILATION RATE INCREASED TO 0.1%. DUNGEON PRIMARY ELEMENT: EARTH. DUNGEON SECONDARY ELEMENT:DEATH. OTHER PRESENT ELEMENTS IN ORDER OF CONCENTRATION: NATURE. ENERGY. WATER.

DUE TO THE ALTERATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS, INHABITANTS OF THE DUNGEON MAY EXPERIENCE VARIOUS EFFECTS.

DUNGEON FORMATION COMPLETED: THE OTHERWORLDLY CAVERN
SYSTEM

'Huh? What the hell does that mean?' Ed thought to himself when he heard Jason's panicked statement. Even more confused than he was before, he sat there for a few moments in shock. Finally snapping out of it and regaining composure, he heads straight to the bonfire to retrieve what he could from the stash of mana crystals. Moving past his poisoned needle traps, he gets his worn lizard stomach and begins to fill the improvised sack full of what his rat hands and mouth could stuff in. Satisfied with what he could get in, he puts the mana crystal filled bag horizontally onto his back and balances the it as if carrying a sack of potatoes. Jason along with the a number of his allies were long gone when he had returned to Rattleskull's corpse. 'Shit. They're gone.' The young dire rat thought to himself as he did his best to formulate a way to locate Jason and the others. He begins to sniff around the air and utilize his sharp sense of smell to locate the distinct odors of Jason's evolved form. Once he picked up the scent, he begins to scamper towards it, in hopes that he would arrive to where Jason and the others went to.

Asteria

Asteria was just about to leave the lake and head back to the goblin boss’s corpse, when she was interrupted by the system message that notified her of two level-ups and the option to evolve. Instead of heading back to the group, she crouched in a shadow next to a rock some meters away from the lake and studied her options. So many interesting skills, and so many of them that would be hard to get on my own…Now which ones to choose? Asteria knew she wanted to invest a bit into magic, purely out of curiosity, but how much should she?

Certainly, there was also utility in magic, as had clearly been demonstrated by Jason’s earth affinity magic attack that had finished off the boss. But she was still worried about the whole mana regeneration issue – the only ways she knew for sure to regenerate mana were sleeping or using one the steadily diminishing number of mana crystals. There probably existed skills that could help to restore mana naturally, as evidenced by the Meditate and Mana Drain options that she apparently had in the list of unusable skills. The question Asteria was deliberating over was whether to invest so much into one of them or not. In the end, she decided to take a bit of a risk… “5 points to Mana Sense. 9 points to Mana Drain,” she said, then waited a bit for the changes to take effect.

Next, she studied and thought over the evolution options. Adult rat, Ratman and Mongrel are all attractive options. The first two can practice dexterity and crafting, while the last one is a strong predator…I wonder how Mother Rat would react to any such evolution though, especially if I turned into an obviously different species.

Asteria was unable to finalize her decision in regard to evolving, partly because she wasn’t certain what to aim for and partly because she was interrupted by the ominous system message and concurrent change in the environment. She could practically smell the now heavily permeating scent of death, could see how darkness became a definite, solid part of the environment. …Is this because of all the senseless slaughter we were involved in? We just made this cave into some sort of a…a zombie/apocalypse horror-setting. Should we just leave? Or take responsibility and try to fix it? And what will the remaining enemy goblins do? Asteria was now pondering on something else, but was interrupted yet again – this time by Jason’s shouting demand to follow him. Asteria, despite everything, couldn’t help but feel suspicious that he, of all people, seemed to know exactly what was going on…But she felt that trying to fix the situation was probably the moral, correct decision. Though if things turned south, she was more than ready to suggest that they run.

With that in mind, Asteria focused on her sight and scanned the cave, hoping to catch sight of Jason as he made off wherever it was he wanted to go. Conveniently for her, Jason soon rolled straight past her, heading even further into the depths of the cave, to an area almost directly opposite of where she remembered the Dire Rats’ nesting area to be. Asteria then nudged Mother Rat, squeaked a few times, and even added, “Please follow me. This is important!” Hoping the monster ally would follow as usual, Asteria used her speed to an advantage as she made a mad dash after Jason until she caught up. She saw that Digbie and a pixie were already following Jason and joined the group.

“So, we have some more craziness to deal with? Jason, you seem to have an idea what might be going on…Also, I’m assuming the others are still on their way. I wouldn’t want to handle this whole death vibe thingy with just the four of us.”

'I don't believe we've met before, I'm Jason; current leader of this little conglomerate.... Who might you be?'

While the level up wasn't too surprising the amount of skill points was as was the other system message, in fact Danny was so preoccupied trying to allocate the points properly that he didn't that Jason didn't actually talk out loud. "Yeah, nice to meet you I'm Danny. Sorry but I'm a bit busy at the moment, trying to get the most out of 12 skill points."

Magic analysis sounded nice but if it worked like Monster Analysis I he should be able to get it just by seeing spells in action and trying to figure them out, same for Plant Analysis but with plants of course. Mana Dart was a skill he really wanted but if he was right Mana Shape was required to make it in which case learning that and using it to get the Dart version of Mana Orb made more sense. On the other hand that was a lot of skill points to use and he didn't have any forms he wanted his mana to have in mind yet besides the compressing, though if he was right about it would save him mana.

"Let's see I'll put 3 points into Mana Shape, 6 into Point Strike and the last three into Focus." If he was right about Point Strike it should give him an attack that was less mana consuming than Mana Orb and he was also sure that he could get those three skills to level up before he did.

The Pixie Danny originally offered to teach Meditation too spoke up and had a good point about the Goblins and it not being a good time to focus on teaching each other new skills. Before he could admit the Pixie was right Jason yelled that the group had to follow him.

having no idea what was going he flew up again and chased after the strange looking slime as fast as he could, while also noticing that something was up with the Slime that attacked the huge Goblin's neck which finally, for Danny at least, confirmed that he was indeed defeated.

Rain looked on at the corpse as the bastard finally died, breathing heavily.

Quickly. Quickly. No time.

7 points into Fireball, 5 into Stealth Kill, Rain thought quickly.

This gave her Fireball, finally, and what was the best way to test it?

Ideally she would burn the bastard body, but others were working at it. That wouldn't do. She turned, instead, looking up. At the ceiling, then.

She stood there, concentrating, before attempting a Fireball.

Regardless of success or not, she followed Jason and the rest. As they neared the... Thing... She moved to the safest spot in the little cavern area she could reasonably manage.

"I'm going to change." Simple words that she didn't feel needed more explaining.

With that, she made her choice.

~THE OTHERWORLDLY CAVERN~

"Oh good." Ash exhaled, making a quiet hissing noise as air passed through her snout. She was glad at least this one seemed more reasonable than the others currently doing exactly what their baser natures made them. "We are of a similar mindset then. A welcome change of pace." A few others in the human group might be convinced, but she was too irritated to try for what might have just been a small hope. Orchid's plan didn't really fill her with much confidence either. Trying to fit into the holes in the ceiling? While doable, she was fairly certain she was far to big for such a thing.

"...Hm, I don't think sealing the cave would be worth the effort." Flapping one of her new wings to get better accustomed to the appendage, Ash continued. "That said...my original goal was to make an alliance of sorts with the goblins after dealing with their leader...quietly. If you have some that are loyal it would be very helpful. I have some need of...well, skilled hands. Literally." She laughed lightly. "I could help convince them to come with us, if you'd like. I'm not sure about flying yet, I feel like it would be more of a controlled glide than anything and I've yet to try, but as for holding something...let me try something."

Taking a deep breath, Ash focused on the torch in Orchid's hand, reaching out with her mind and newly acquired telekinesis. At first, she tugged gently on the Torch, testing the limits of her strength and the ability to carry it. She couldn't finely manipulate it just yet, but she could likely at least carry it over her head. Once Orchid let the torch go, she held it in front of her, slowly rotating and holding it in front of her.

"Since I don't have hands, I've needed to get a little creative. Lets see about finding these friends of yours, but we should be quick. If they can't be easily convinced through words or force we shouldn't linger."

As Jason and Co. hauled ass to his cave, Asteria joined the quickly moving group, “So, we have some more craziness to deal with? Jason, you seem to have an idea what might be going on…Also, I’m assuming the others are still on their way. I wouldn’t want to handle this whole death vibe thingy with just the four of us.”

Without breaking pace, Jason promptly responded to his comrade via [Telepathy II], 'I'm not sure about what the fuck this Dungeon bullshit is... But I'm ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that I know where the core is..... In fact, I swear that it was somehow calling to me, because an unsettling urge to see it came over me the moment the the cave transformed. If this core thing is what I think it is.... Whoever controls it will have complete dominion over the entire cave. As for the others-- I have no idea whether or not they intend to join us. As a matter of fact, I surmise a few of them paid my words no heed at all. If we can arrive at the core before anyone- or anything can... We should have no problem at all. Hurry now! It's not much further!'

After grouping up with Asteria, it didn't take long to reach Jason's tunnel. Thankfully, the pile of rocks concealing the entrance appeared undisturbed, meaning they were the first ones to get to the core. Frantically, Jason dove atop the pile, stripping the rocks away as fast as he could before throwing himself inside. Grabbing the 6 crystals he'd left stashed there earlier, Jason braced his mind, and immediately used the [Source Crystal] to scan this strange 'Dungeon Core', quickly averting his vision if the resulting effect began to overwhelm his mental defences.

With great uncertainty, the slime mage extended a psuedopod to the core, touching it lightly.

As the group made their way to whatever location Jason had in mind Danny became curious as to what kind of monster he might be, the fact that he was some kind of slime was clear but beyond that? Luckily there was an easy way to find it out. Making sure not to fall behind the others he used Monster Analysis I on the self proclaimed group leader. He briefly wondered if he should try to raise any other skill, but since he had no idea if they were heading into battle decided that using MP wasn't smart so that limited his options. Still he had few left and decided to start by analyzing all every monster in the group, while dimming his glow in hopes of maxing out Monster Analysis I and gaining Suppress Presence.

When they arrived and Jason touched the giant crystal he readied a level 2 Mana Orb in case anything happened.

A New Dawn: Day 9 Since Rebirth. Day 3 Of Adventure.

DUNGEON [OTHERWORLDLY CAVERN] IS NOW STABILIZING. ALLOTTING RESOURCES...

ASSIMILATION RATE: 0.2%
SYSTEM

This long night had finally become a new morning. Outside the cave, filtering through the entrance now coated in ash and smoke, the hazy blue of dawn began to wet the grass. Around the cave, areas began to get brighter as the cracks and crevices seemed to breathe tendrils of morning fog.

Despite having been up all night, and most of the day before, it seemed the Goblins and their unnatural enemies were still soldiering on...but for how long until exhaustion, or their foes, overwhelmed them...?

Ardur, Asteria, Danny, Digbie, Ed, Jason, Mother Rat, Rain

Skill Gain: Taming I!
Many species have dominated or relied on each other throughout history. In a manner similar to social and charisma based skills, you use magic to form bonds with other creatures. At this rank, you may only attempt to tame one creature. If you switch to another, the former will be released from the bond. At this rank, you may only attempt to tame creatures at least one level below your own. At this rank, you must still entice the creature with things like food or protection. You may need multiple attempts. When Taming is complete, a personalized magical mark will appear on the creature.

Skill Gain: Fireball I!
The fire-themed version of a basic magical attack. With roughly the same power, range, and MP consumption as a Mana Orb, it has the unique property of being able to inflict a burn on the target. However, as an elemental spell, these same properties render it harder to use in certain circumstances. Non-flammable or elementally opposed targets, for example, will be much less effected.
System:Ardur

Skill Gain: Mana Sense I!
You have sharpened your mental and spiritual senses as well as your physical ones. By focusing upon a single creature or object, you will be able to sense its magical nature in some fashion. Different creatures may perceive this aura in different ways--some may see a colored aura, others may catch unique scents, etc. This is not an Analysis skill, though it may Synergize with some of them. The range of this skill is limited to that of your other physical senses, though in some cases a mana signature may become easier or more difficult to detect depending on factors such as strength, amount, etc. By touching an object or creature, even if they are somehow suppressing their magical power, you have a chance to learn whether or not magic is present. At this rank, you must activate this skill in order for it to take effect. While active it will consume MP.

Skill Gain: Mana Drain I!
You have experienced the flow of mana inside your own body, and felt the energy of other creatures being used upon you. Like siphoning water through a tube, this ability allows the user to draw the energies of others into themselves. By using Stamina, you will drain MP from an opponent and add it to your own. However, certain factors may come into play--you are not guaranteed to restore the exact same amount of MP that you drain. At this rank, in order to use this skill you must be touching the creature or object to be drained. While you are using this skill you cannot use any other spell or skill that is offensive in nature or requires complex movements.
System:Asteria

You used Monster Analysis I!
--Jason--
Stone-Hardened Mage Slime: Slimes are normally of limited intelligence, but every so often one somehow learns magic. With its poor magic stats its casts are limited in number, but few expect a Slime to have such abilities. This one has somehow earned the Stone Hardened Variance, signifying a bond of some sort with the Earth element. This one is unusual. You have learned his name is Jason.
System:Danny

Skill Gain: Taboo I
You have gained a "cursed skill." Those with sharp senses may detect your true nature...Even now, the evil seed of what you've done germinates within you...

Skill Gain: Stronger I!
You have grown stronger through tough training! Tear muscles down, and rebuild them anew! Your physical power stats have increased! By gaining at least one rank of Faster, Harder, and Better, Skill Synergy will occurr and you will gain one rank of Physical Conditioning.
System:Digbie

You used a Mana Crystal! MP is now Full.
You placed Mana Crystals into your Lizardskin pouch. It will hold for now, but its durability is reaching the limit...
Obtained Mana Crystal x10
System:Ed

Skill Gain: Mind Wave I!
This spell uses a wave of psionic force to attack an opponent's mind directly. It may Confuse them temporarily. At this rank the spell requires eye-contact, and thus its range is limited by the user's eyesight. Its MP cost is slightly higher than that of most first level spells, but it is very difficult to dodge due to Psionic mana lacking many of the visually distinct characteristics of other spells.

Skill Rank Up: Rock Spire II!
MP Cost increased. Number of Spires increased to 3. Each spire does the same amount of damage and has the same range as before.
System:Jason

Skill Gain: Fireball I!
The fire-themed version of a basic magical attack. With roughly the same power, range, and MP consumption as a Mana Orb, it has the unique property of being able to inflict a burn on the target. However, as an elemental spell, these same properties render it harder to use in certain circumstances. Non-flammable or elementally opposed targets, for example, will be much less effected.

Skill Gain: Stealth Kill I!
By concentrating your Stamina at the moment of a sneak attack, you can (without sound or visual effects) increase the power of a single blow. A target's active resistance against you will disrupt the various forms of breathing, focus, movement, etc. required to focus Stamina into this technique, so it will not work in open combat.
System:Rain

Jason immediately roared to get everyone's attention, and while barely even giving the others time to follow his orders immediately tore off back towards his cave. Ardur, Danny, and Digbie followed almost immediately, but Asteria was slower because she had to convince Mother Rat. The animal had been less active since the fight with the Brawny goblins, and looked at Asteria with bleary eyes. No creature could go without sleep forever, after all. But eventually she roused herself and followed after her offspring.

Rain experimented with her newfound Fireball spell, and though it appeared in midair above her head like someone had thrown a match at gasoline fumes, it didn’t seem quite as stable as Crispy’s had. It shot upwards towards the ceiling, but it didn’t explode. That was probably just because it was rank one, but still...it didn’t seem like its trajectory was quite as controlled, either. It almost seemed like...she needed a way to contain it? After all, Crispy basically formed his between his hand and then pitched them like baseballs. Could she do that without hands of her own?

Ed used his worn and muddied Lizardskin Sack to try and gather up the Mana Crystals around the Bonfire. The first one he touched, however, immediately dissolved and restored his Below Average MP to Full. The other ten fit into the bag, but their sharp bits were bulging and puncturing it at points. It probably wouldn’t last too much longer…

Once the group had arrived, with Rain and Ed bringing up the rear, they found Jason’s Cave virtually the same as the green slime had left it. However, it seemed that with his careful care rather than the haphazard state of nature, and the lack of wounded creatures around to munch on them, those 8 Healing Herbs he had planted had sprouted and grown well in such a short time. It seemed some of the seedlings had even sprouted offshoots of their own--instead of 8, there were now 11 Herbs available...although, one set of them had turned a rather foreboding, oily shade of black…

As Rain backed herself into a corner her decision became concrete inside her mind, and she suddenly felt a deep and powerful sleep come over her. It was too fast, and there was no fighting it--just like going under before a surgery.

And as she went under, she rose up and up and up. Rain's body gave several jerks as her consciousness faded, and each time she seemed just that little bit bigger. Then, after becoming somewhat bloated, her skin began to change. It rapidly began to dry out and lose its color. And somewhere deep inside, something began to pulse...

Rain suddenly saw EVERYTHING.

Not in crystal clarity, of course. But she drifted upwards, out of her body, rising high enough that she could look out across the cave. And sometimes it seemed as if she saw through it--into the small nest where she had been reborn. And all around and through Jason’s cave. And just barely up through the ceiling of the cave into the skies above, and out into the forest--but really, it was just a vague sense that they were there. She hadn’t risen high enough to see them yet…

But even though she felt like she should have kept going up, she didn’t.

The world turned red for a moment, like looking at it through literal rose tinted glasses. She was still floating in the cave, above her own body, above everyone else, looking out and over and through and into. Now that she wasn’t going up and up anymore, she could look around with a sense of leisure. She could see Crispy and his group making their way towards the cave...and the currently helpless bodies of those who had also begun their evolutions. She could even see down into the depths of the central pool, down, down, down...through solid rock and packed earth, into a hollow chamber shimmering with the water’s reflection…

Something with blue eyes looked back at her.

Dungeon:Rain

Rain suddenly felt stuck. And something was still staring at her…

Boss: <Vacant>

YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME BOSS OF THIS DUNGEON.
Dungeon:Jason

Jason’s head was splitting with pain. He was on the verge of unconsciousness. Through this fog, however, one train of thought somehow, impossibly, managed to stay on the rails. This was his new home. He had been reborn here. This was his place. These creatures were his soldiers. Just like back home. He was a warlord. He could rule this place. He could make it right. Only him. Only him...He had to protect this place...he had to make this place better…

Asura, Mourningstar, Oberon

Skill Gain: Harder I!
You have toughened yourself up through training! Clenched muscles or hardened flesh can be an effective shield--your base defensive stats increase! By gaining at least one rank in Faster, Stronger, and Better, Skill Synergy will occurr to increase the rank of Physical Conditioning.

Skill Gain: Counter I!
When activated at the moment you are struck by an enemy's attack, your own attack will gain power based in proportion to the damage you took. However, it is limited by the amount of power your own body can produce, and the efficiency of the counter. It is not a direct mirror of the opponent's strength.
System:Asura

Skill Gain: Alert I!
Though this skill is limited by the strength of your senses, and does not sharpen your senses on its own, it allows you to become more aware of your surroundings. Without conscious effort, you will pick up on signs in your environment more easily, especially if they present some form of danger to you. Essentially this is an anti-ambush skill.
System:Oberon

As the others immediately ran off, Asura and Mourningstar set about removing Rattleskull’s head and some of his flesh in some rather gruesome, but ultimately effective, ways. Almost as soon as that was done, however, and Asura and the Pixie had made their choices to evolve…

They both dropped like rocks.

Asura, unconscious of this by himself, began to mold and tighten his body until he appeared more like a red egg than a slime. Oberon, also merely by reflex without any waking choice, curled himself into a fetal position before wrapping himself in his wings, which began to glitter as if they were caught in full sunlight.

And as they went under, they rose up and up and up. Suddenly, though neither of them could see each other, they could see EVERYTHING else.

Not in crystal clarity, of course. But they drifted upwards, out of their bodies, rising high enough that they could look out across the cave. And sometimes it seemed as if they saw through it--into all the nooks and crannies and dark corners, even the places where they were born. And all around and through Jason’s cave. And just barely up through the ceiling of the cave into the skies above, and out into the forest--but really, it was just a vague sense that they were there. They hadn’t risen high enough to see them yet…

But even though they felt like they should have kept going up, they didn’t.

The world turned red for a moment, like looking at it through literal rose tinted glasses. They were still floating in the cave, above their own bodies, above everyone else, looking out and over and through and into. And they could see that, over in Jason’s cave, something was beginning to happen to that red core. It seemed to be more solid now, and its surface seemed to be gaining a texture. No longer the smooth, seemingly perfect crystalline sphere, it was beginning to grow small spikes, thorns, all over...and then from these thorns, smaller thorns also grew. They only grew in straight lines, giving an odd impression of circuitry. And they seemed to be growing towards Jason, who now slumped listlessly at the base of the large green crystal that housed the Core…

Dungeon:Asura/Oberon

Asura and Oberon suddenly felt stuck for some reason...and as they watched, Mourningstar stood among their helpless bodies down below...While Crispy and his gang approached in the distance.

Orchid, Ash, Reoth

Skill Gain: Taboo I
You have gained a "cursed skill." Those with sharp senses may detect your true nature...Even now, the evil seed of what you've done germinates within you...
System:Orchid

In the slowly approaching daylight, Orchid might be able to more easily find these holes that Crispy spoke of. After all, they would be the cause of those natural shafts of sunlight that lit up some portions of the cave, right? But now that she had emerged from her old skin, the lack of Stamina Ash had noticed before hadn't recovered very much. She could still feel a powerful thirst, and that shortlived evolutionary nap hadn't really rested her at all. Plus, she still had to get used to her new body...her four legs were now much longer and more functional, and she had a brand new pair of wings. While she couldn't hold tools without thumbs, she seemed to at least have the same dexterity one might expect out of a small or slightly clumsy feline. Not that she really needed that ability, with Lesser Force available to her now.

Looking through the source crystal at the dungeon core turned out to be a terrible idea, pain coursed through Jason's mind tearing at his very soul...

Dungeon:Jason

On the verge of unconsciousness, Jason began to puddle on the floor of his cavern.

Slowly, Jason began to sink into a slumber.

NO. HE REFUSED to pass up such an opportunity. Summoning all of his will, he dragged himself back from the abyss; attempting to stitch his mind back together with psychic energy. Snapping back to a foggy reality, Jason threw himself against the core; clinging to it as tightly as he could.

You used a Mana Crystal! MP is now Full.
You placed Mana Crystals into your Lizardskin pouch. It will hold for now, but its durability is reaching the limit...
Obtained Mana Crystal x10
System:Ed

Upon reaching the cave where the others were, he set the makeshift pack filled with mana crystals beside the cave entrance. He was satisfied that he was able to obtain the substantial amount of the mana crystals, but there were still a number of them left at the bonfire. Though that was for a later time, now he had understand on what was so urgent that caused Jason to bolt without even a second thought. Within the cave he saw Jason's slimy form struggling to keep shape before yelling out that he claimed the dungeon for himself. "Jason!" Unsure what was happening, Ed rushed to the evolved slime and began looking and checking if the slime was injured in any way, but finding nothing that seemed wrong with him. "Shit! I...I...I don't know what's wrong." The young dire rat began to panic slightly as he had no clue on how to help Jason. Even more so when he noticed that things growing out of the crystal he touched, going closer to the slime.

Asteria

Asteria couldn’t run as fast as she had wanted, because Mother Rat showed her tiredness by moving a bit more sluggish than usual. Nonetheless, they eventually arrived at Jason’s cave, and the first thing Asteria – and probably everyone else – noticed was the large green crystal, within which a red core was growing and spreading. While Jason experimented with looking at the large crystalline formation with a smaller green crystal of his own, Asteria looked over the cave, and noted the 11 Healing herbs, though one of them was an ominous black instead of a healthy fresh green.

Since their…leader was still busy, Asteria approached the garden. She now knew that the green herbs could heal one fully – and how had no one mentioned that to her before?! – because she had eaten one from the lake shore and immediately felt her injuries and aches dissipating. It wouldn’t surprise her if that meant the herbs also contained magic. She put a paw on one of the green ones and mentally flicked the Mana sense on long enough that she was able to momentarily sense the green herb, then flicked it back off. Now that she had a proper skill, it really was as simple as having a psychical light switch that she could turn on or off with her mind.

The green herb, while Asteria focused on sensing its mana, had the faint but sure feeling of nature, health, and goodness. It wouldn’t surprise Asteria at all if it had used the ambient magic to grow then “converted” the mana for its own use. Asteria drew her paw back from the green herb and warily approached the black one. This was surely a significantly worse idea, but she wanted to know what the heck was going on with all this sudden permeating darkness and death. Was it really the case that they had killed too many creatures in too short of a time period? Or was it something else? After all, there had surely been plenty of killing before they as humans were reincarnated into some of the monster inhabitants of this cave…so perhaps a warring intention was the key difference that was beginning to change the cave.
Thus, Asteria put her paw on the black herb, and once again flicked her Mana Sense on long enough to get a feel for the plant, as it were.

She was a bit discomfited by what she discovered, but not as disturbed as she was by Jason’s shout proclaiming he wanted to become the Dungeon’s new master. This better not mean he’ll suddenly turn into an enemy or something. With that grumbling thought, Asteria finally left the herbs to their own devices and joined a panicked Ed in trying to help Jason. The Earth Mage slime was slumped at the base of the large green crystal, straight red thorns of new crystal formation beginning their approach. Suddenly, Jason regained his senses long enough to throw himself at the crystal, getting kind of impaled by the red crystalline thorns in the process. “…I think he might want whatever is happening to happen, Ed?” she tried to reassure him, but the questioning tone of her encouragement gave away her own confusion.

“Let me see…” she trailed off as she approached Jason and the green crystal with its red core. She cautiously lifted her paw and put a single crooked finger on one of the red tendrils, then activated her Mana Sense once again. Asteria assumed that the crystal was bound to have some magic, and so focused on diverting some of its energy away from Jason and towards herself. She was tense and ready to withdraw at the first sense of trouble, but both aware and utterly terrified of what would happen if she were overwhelmed or have her sense and spirit burned or whatever the heck the crystal might do to her while Jason was interacting with it.

When Jason touched the Crystal and suddenly was clearly in pain Danny's first idea was to use his prepared second level Mana Orb, but since he didn't fully know what was going on he decided against it. After all the Mana might somehow get transfered to the Slime as well. So instead he tried to let Orb dissipate harmlessly while reabsorbing the energy it took him to create it.

While he was trying to do it the Crystal changed significantly, growing spiky tendrils. The whole process raised his curiosity but at the same time he didn't dare get near it unlike the Dire Rat and one of the Pixie's who both approached Jason trying to help him or at least comfort him a little.

Everything was - she could see everything. From this core to the cave to the - Crispy was coming and she wanted, no needed him. She knew it. With him and maybe some others they could stop everything. They could learn and grow.

She needed more.

She could even see down into the depths of the central pool, down, down, down...through solid rock and packed earth, into a hollow chamber shimmering with the water’s reflection…

Something with blue eyes looked back at her.

She was taken aback, between knowing she could go higher, that something hidden was down there, and that this thing was looking at her.

And then it started. She was praised. It was hard to tell, but she knew it.

And then she was stuck, with this thing looking at her.

Nothing else to do, so she tried to look at it. Find out what it was. See anything she could of it. Inspect it, learn. What was it? Why was she being watched? How?

...and that cavern. The message had said she could borrow? Could she burrow down there? Was this thing down there?

She needed to know.

Ardur The Pixie
PROMOTED! >>>> Strange occurrence's /// day 8 // Evening / Location - J11

Reaching the slimes cave and uncovering the entrance showed little activity in the area. The slime seemed rather frantic with a want and desire to get into the area. The pixie was unsure why he was so desperate to get into his small cave but followed him inside. He watched as the slime cautiously approached two different crystals.

They were odd colored and definitely not mana crystals. The slime picked up one and slowly touched the other. For a moment it looked like nothing was happening. It would seem that trying to see body language with a blob of goo was rather hard to see. Let alone interpret. However, by Jason’s next actions he could tell he was in pain.

The slime leaped on one of the crystals and seemed to be vibrating or at the very least in pain. One of the dire rats, that Ardur couldn’t quite remember his name, moved up to the slime with a bit of panic. Another rat seemed to come up and inspect the slime and the red crystals while also seeming to try to calm the other rat down.

Ardur stepped forward and toward the slime stopping just short of him, “Hey Ed, was it? Why don’t you go and watch our backs with the wisp? Be a real problem if we get cornered in here while he’s doing whatever it is he’s doing.” Ardur spoke calmly and rather professionally. It’s not the first time he’s had to redirect someone’s effort to help in an emergency, sometimes they can do more harm than good.

Looking back to the slime and the now obvious pain he was in the pixie decided to use a spell he hadn’t used yet. Ardur reached out and cast Minor Heal III on the slime knowing how well it drained him. Then stepped back as the other dire rat began to do something to the slime.

Warning: Mana Low
Rest to regain mana

Mourningstar

As Mourningstar finished removing her new helmet from it's previous resting place, she was assaulted by a series of system messages from all over. A level up, Fireball II, a dungeon formation. That last one excited her the most, dungeons meant respawning monsters and bosses, albeit probably no boss monsters at the moment considering what they did to Rattleskull. A hint of sunlight peeked through the cavern roof, a beam of light settling on Mourningstar as if to celebrate her survival. "Yeah. Good job me." She whispered to herself as she mentally patted herself on the back.

Of course her mental celebration could not last long, for both Oberon and Asura had suddenly become eggs. She stared at them for a minute as the others left, before shrugging and floating onto Rattleskull's corpse. Looks like she was going to be the designated guard for now, no big deal. She then got to work on her next project, trying to make this thing into a helmet. At first she figured she could just scoop out all the innards and just wear it like that, but then she realized that might be a bit awkward. After scooping out all the innards with Lesser Force, she then got to removing the lower jaw from the rest of the head, making it less helmety and more hatty.

Next up was making sure the thing could actually stay on her, which was where the headband she had looted came into play. She looped that through the top part of the jaw and over the skull to make it into a strap, one she could sorta tie under her body so that it wouldn't come flying off. In the end, she had turned Rattleskull's head into a hat slash body armor thing. "Wow this is super gross. And morbid."

He was stuck. It felt almost like a dream, except for the fact that he was aware that it wasn’t real. As soon as he had selected his ‘evolution’ he was struck by this sense of weightlessness and almost… etherealness. He had passed out, his body collapsing to the ground and instinctively curling up into a foetal position as his wings cocooned themselves around him; he knew this because he could see it happening from outside of himself.

Before he had any time to ponder the reality of this out of body experience he had begun to rise upward, floating higher and higher away from his body and the cave floor. As he ascended it was like his senses expanded, his awareness of the world growing beyond what he should have been capable of, seeing things from far away or even seeing through the cave to the world outside; it felt like he would keep rising, keep expanding his range of vision until he could see the whole world at once, keep rising until he reached… something high up above.

But then he stopped.

He remained in the cave. He did not rise any further, but he also did not fall; he merely stopped and was struck by the sensation of being held in place by something. And then the world turned red.

Oberon’s vision was drawn to a cave. Inside that cave was a group of familiar figures of various shapes and sizes. This group was gathered around a crystal and that crystal was behaving very strangely.

The green Wizard Slime was reaching out for the crystal and the crystal in turn was reaching out to him, growing more than moving in his direction and extending long thorns that were strangely, geometrically, perfectly straight. It reminded Oberon of the lines on a circuit board or really of any time some work of fiction wanted to depict something as technological, or at least non-biological; nature rarely produced such perfectly straight lines after all. Despite being so far away with this peculiar, all-seeing vision Oberon could see the happenings going on in the cave as if he was standing right next to them. He tried to activate Magic Analysis on the crystal, but who knew if he even had access to his usual abilities in this form.

A system message, combined with a voice in his head interrupted his examination of the crystal. At first the voice was unfamiliar and somewhat robotic; it sounded vaguely like an error message he would expect to see at work, in his old life. Then the voice was replaced by one a lot more… human was probably the wrong word, given who it was, but alive at least. The words in the message and the words being spoken were perfectly understandable yet at the same time they seemed distorted or corrupted somehow and filled his head with static. The Demon King sounded curious, surprised, maybe even a little approving; it seemed they were progressing faster than he had expected.

The message ended and Oberon’s awareness of the cave returned. At some point he’d turned away from the cave and was looking down at his body, at the corpse of Rattleskull and at Mourningstar, who was now alone. In the distance, approaching Mourningstar and his helpless body, was a group of Goblins led by the one who had escaped from the bonfire earlier; the one who had tried to cast a fire spell.

Oberon used, or at least attempted to use, Magic Analysis on the approaching Goblins and their leader in particular. He turned back to the Wisp below and tried to call out, to warn her of the enemies approaching. Hopefully he would wake up before they arrived, or else he might get to experience his own death from a third person perspective.

Reoth

Deep in thought on how to use magic, or how to find out if he even could use it, Reoth hardly paid any more attention to the others as they went about their own business. Someone may have said something to him, but he didn't hear them. And so he lay there, watching Ash's attempts while his mind worked. Then just as the rock Ash was focused on started to move, he fell asleep.

Having no idea how much time may have passed, Roeth's eyes slowly opened to find that the others had left. Looking around quickly, he noticed the goblin and... dragon? It seemed he had awoken mid-conversation. It was only due to the voice of the reptile that he recognized her as Ash. Finding himself to be in a sort of awkward situation, Reoth stood and shook himself awake before looking to Ash and speaking, "Uhm... What happened to you?" He couldn't quite think of what to say other that that, or asking who the goblin was.
