The world around Jason faded to black; stolen away by the unrelenting tide of exhaustion, both mental and physical. It was a moment of weakness. An opportunity most welcome by a man's inner demons... The shadows wrought of a haunted past scurried forth like starved, ravenous vultures to overtake his weary soul, dragging Jason deeper into the abyss of his tortured mind. Flung about wildly through the void like the plaything of some perverse entity, the warlord finally jerked to a stop as a vision, or, perhaps... A memory? was held before him.

At first, he could see nothing but the layers of rock, and then daylight, but before his eyes could adjust he was rising higher. Now he saw a a deep forest, and gently rising cliffs growing ever steeper until they became mountains to the immediate west. He rose higher, drifting through clouds that stretched over the cave and further beyond, over curling smoke trails and unnaturally shaped structures of wood and stone that could only be civilization. Somewhere to the east, a large body of water sat glimmering with the last rays of the setting sun.

He rose higher. To the south, deserts and canyons, windstorms sweeping over the dunes. Further to the east, a bright light cutting a path to safety for those in need of guidance. Over the mountains, to the southwest, a grand city stretching for miles. Still in the west, but far further north, a tower like a mighty tree reaching up to the heavens with roots stretching deep, deep into the earth. So far to the east that it became west again, a lonely, cold, desolate island where red lightning split the sky. Further beyond that, marshlands and mountains and untamed, wild lands.

From the base of the cliffs he had first seen, an army of death and unholy might marched forth. The deep, lush forests burned. The mountains became cold, lifeless fortresses of rock and steel. Further and further the influence of this fell legion spread; like a cancer upon existence itself it spread-- ever growing, undying, UNSTOPPABLE. Countless civilizations knelt before their invincible foe, and one by one, they all fell beneath it's heel. In mere minutes, Jason had witnessed the conquering of an entire world; leaving a blighted, blackened sphere in it's place. Slowly, the world began to grow smaller and smaller, until it sat neatly withing Jason's palm-- like a small novelty globe one would put on their desk. A dread filled awe reverberated through Jason as he rose from his cold throne, before him stood a chanting legion of undead, ready to obey his every command.

"It could all beeeeeeee youuuuursssssssssssssssssss...." hissed a voice behind Jason, chilling every fiber of his being. It was a voice he knew well. "Y-You shouldn't be here... T-Th-This isn't what I want..." Jason stuttered fearfully, swallowing his saliva as he slowly turned to face the voice. The skeleton of his oldest friend; and greatest enemy, met his eyes with a sinister grin. "You could have the peeeeerfect army Jason," the skeleton clicked, "No need to eat, no need to sleep.... and best of all, undying loyalty..... Think about it Jason, no more betrayal.... No more like me..."

"Or me..." a glowing shape added as darkness began to close in around Jason.

The shadows laughed madly as they began to overtake Jason's form, paying little heed to his protests, "N-N-NO!!! I WON'T DO IT! GET OUT OF MY HEAD! I'LL NEVER GIVE IN! YOU HEAR ME?? NEVER!!!" Jason screamed as he violently fought the oncoming tide in vain, continuing to thrash squirm until the shadows had him once more. A single foreboding taunt was all Jason heard before once more drifting into nothingness.

"Of course you will Jason... It's only a matter of time."

Asura gave off a short laugh, possibly the only time anyone would see him laugh. "This world is exactly a video game. System messages, leveling up, inventory screens, ability stats, it's all exactly a game. Except we don't have the benefit of having free lives." He said before eying the exit to the cave.

"I really need the sleep, or rest. My hit points are dropping because my stamina is all gone." He stated before gesturing to the cavernous walls. "We should stay near the entrance to the cave for now. At least we'd be able to escape in two directions or just hide among the crags." He continued, gesturing to his own little nook that could hold a couple of the others.

Upon hearing the Slime's response, Oberon couldn’t help but let out a little sigh. That was exactly the kind of mentality he was trying to warn against. “This world works like a game in a lot of ways, it’s true, but at the end of the day it’s still a living, breathing world like ours was; we can’t make assumptions about this place based on what worked in games back home, that’s the trap we need to avoid falling into. We shouldn’t treat the creatures like random mobs to grind experience off of for one thing; they aren’t just running off some simple AI, they’re smarter than that. We tried that with the Goblin’s and then they mobilised and tried to wipe out the whole cave.”

The mention of sleep, and especially the health loss that came with it, reminded him of his own predicament. He’d apparently slowed the loss by rehydrating himself but he needed sleep and food as much as everyone else did. “Sleeping by the entrance isn’t a bad idea; we still don’t know what’s outside and shouldn’t try to explore too far if we’re all exhausted. I take it that means you’re coming with us? We should get moving either way; the sooner we get there the sooner we can rest.”

Asura gave a loud snort. "Yeah and our world is just so awesome. At least here I can let myself go a little." He said, hinting that he had some killer tendencies in the real world but had control of himself. "As for treating the mobs good, no. I'll take care of me and mine and any who I deem worth my protection. Everyone else is food to grow stronger. Diplomacy has never been my strong suit." The red slime said, more of a growl than his normal calm and collected speech.

Asura waved to Mother Slime to follow him. A pseudopod latched onto what was left of Rattleskull and dragged him along while Asura moved. "You're lacking a tank and with me around you'll have two. Mother Slime seems attached to me for...some reason." He stated, idly sucking up the blood Rattleskull would have left behind. No point wasting anything from the dead Boss.

Orchid wasn’t surprised by Crispy’s reaction. Not just Crispy disbelief of her origins (Orchid could hardly believe it herself) but also his reaction towards the others. Frankly she was surprised to see the pixie again. Not particularly pleased either, but she wasn’t going to complain too much about it. Ash introduced herself peacefully enough, and the pixie decided to introduce himself with some sort of profound prophecy which made Orchid tempted to shoot him down right now. Crispy, naturally, thought this was all a trick. She needed to dispel this immediately and put a hand on his shoulders to bring him back to his reality.

”This isn’t a trick Crispy. Like I said before the monsters were acting weird. No… They’re just like us now. They talk. They’re as smart as you and me. They’re even willing to work other other monsters to survive. That’s why when Rattleskull started going around killing the others in the cave, all the monsters came out and fought the goblins instead of each other. Things are changing. You’re going to have to get used to it. Otherwise you’ll end up like old Rattleskull.”

Orchid was starting to get tired of having to constantly explain things to Crispy, but she’ll have to keep going at it if she wants to get the goblins on her side. While she has some influence, the other goblins will fall to Crispy’s side now, and until she can gain the loyalty of the others he controls the goblins. She needed to say something that could calm him down and make him not feel the need to be so paranoid about these monsters. Even if Orchid has to lie.

”They actually helped me survive before I met the other goblins. If they wanted to kill me they could have when I was still weak and stupid. But they didn’t… So I trust them. And if you want to survive, especially outside of the cave, you need to trust me too.” Orchid pointed towards the forest and wanted everyone heading in that direction. ”Now let’s go before any unfriendly monsters find us. I only got the ones who I could trust. Who knows what else will leave the cave now that Rattle is dead and new monsters start moving around.”

~The Otherworldly Cavern~

Crispy's surprise was expected. What was odd, was that Crispy seemed to know what she was. Which meant he had seen one before, and also knew of them. Curious. Perhaps he was smarter than she gave him credit for, or at least more experienced. Now how best to calm him down. Goblins like him only respected strength...so a show of intelligence and good faith, whilst still being intimidating. Of course, Ardur also wanted input. At least he didn't open his mouth too much.

"Orchid speaks the truth, Crispy." Ash began slowly, making sure her Charisma skill was still active. "But I won't make any excuses or attempt to gloss things over with a friendly pretense. I want a business deal, nothing more, nothing less. Protection and extra hands, and in return I make the goblins all the potions they need." She paused for a moment, letting Crispy come to a conclusion himself. "That's right, Alchemy. Ever heard of it? You seem like a smart goblin, so I'll assume you have. I am fairly skilled in such things. With the right ingredients I could likely almost make anything." Glancing over to Orchid, Ash began following.

"Of course, you are free to reject the offer and you'll never see me again," Ash glanced back at the Goblin. "...but then you'll have one less tool against whoever or whatever has taken over the cave, now won't you?"

Asura, Momma Slime, Oberon, Digbie, Ed, Torrent

After Asura replayed his memories of his own level ups and skill selection to Momma Slime, she burbled quietly to herself while he spoke to the other monsters. Finally, she extended a psuedopod slowly and precisely, as if she were trying to press a button.

And holding it down.

For a few seconds nothing happened...then, as if she had ingested something that had now dissolved, her membrane began to become somewhat discolored. Or rather...it was losing its translusence to a degree, as if it were becoming thicker and thicker. The bright blue slime now had a sort of foggy swirl under the first layer of her body, so that the things inside her membrane pocket could no longer be clearly seen.

"Done skeelz." she announced.

Once Digbie held Ed up over his head, the Dire Rat's field of view expanded significantly. He could now more clearly hear the shouting in the distance. What was more, several figures were standing in front of the cave entrance, or just outside of it, and the sunlight behind them made their forms easier to make out even if all he could see were black shapes. Two goblins, a larger shape that still had to be a pixie from its height, and something that might have been a lizard...but it had wings. As he watched, the shouting died down and the figures moved further from the cave.

As Torrent tried to shed her skin, she found that her scales didn't seem to want to "scrape" off just by dragging herself against the ground. She did notice, however, that the dirt didn't seem to stick to her or make her "dirty" as she wallowed a small pit in the earthy floor. They were still smooth and perhaps a little more shiny--like rubbing two pennies together, perhaps. Maybe this was some kind of adaption that helped Lesserwurms move through the ground smoothly--after all, it wasn't really "logical" that fantasy monsters like giant worms and such could effectively "swim" through things like rock and sand.
Then the System informed her that she was suffering HP Drain due to running out of stamina.

Oberon and Asura talked for a few moments more, but it seemed all the group was in agreement at this point that it was time to, as the phrase went, "GTFO." They headed for the entrance of the cave, to an area slightly to the left where the slope of the cave wall and the lower ceiling created several rocky ridges, nooks, and crannies where they could hide. From here they could all see the group Ed had been observing, but it looked like the Goblins intended to camp outside for some reason...

[[Assuming everyone is in agreement to leave, also assuming chronologically by this point all of Orchid's group has followed Crispy's group outside to the edge of the forest.]]

Orchid, Ash, Reoth, Mourningstar, Ardur, Crispy, Goblins

The pixie simply smiled and reached back up the stone structure. Disappearing for a moment as he did. Orchid put a hand on Crispy's shoulders to bring him back to his reality, and the other goblin started uncomfortably.

”This isn’t a trick Crispy. Like I said before the monsters were acting weird. No… They’re just like us now. They talk. They’re as smart as you and me."

"Orchid speaks the truth, Crispy." Ash began slowly. The Goblin looked at her with open hostility as she used his name.

"They’re even willing to work with other monsters to survive." Orchid continued. Crispy jerked away from her and took a few steps back. "That’s why when Rattleskull started going around killing the others in the cave, all the monsters came out and fought the goblins instead of each other."

"You not listenin' to what I sayin', youngling! Always talk too much!"

"Things are changing. You’re going to have to get used to it. Otherwise you’ll end up like old Rattleskull.” Orchid sounded somewhat exasperated, and Crispy ground his yellowed teeth together.

"But I won't make any excuses or attempt to gloss things over with a friendly pretense. I want a business deal, nothing more, nothing less." The Pygmy Drake broke back in, and Crispy's attention was being split in two directions at once.

"What bidness!? You a Pygmy Drake, can't make bidness!"

"Protection and extra hands, and in return I make the goblins all the potions they need." She paused for a moment, letting Crispy come to a conclusion himself. "That's right, Alchemy. Ever heard of it? You seem like a smart goblin, so I'll assume you have. I am fairly skilled in such things. With the right ingredients I could likely almost make anything."

"Drakes can't make potions! See, is trick!" Crispy yelled, pointing with dramatic thrusts of his arm.

”They actually helped me survive before I met the other goblins." Orchid insisted. "If they wanted to kill me they could have when I was still weak and stupid.

Ash began to follow the female goblin. "Of course, you are free to reject the offer and you'll never see me again," Ash glanced back at Crispy. "...but then you'll have one less tool against whoever or whatever has taken over the cave, now won't you?"

The pixie came back--along with a giant spider that made Crispy's eyes bug out even more.

"No we're not goblins Crispy, but we want the same thing. To survive and thrive. Our hope is that by helping each other we can achieve this." the pixie said. Crispy clutched his head with both hands, his jaw creaking as he tightly worked it back and forth. It seemed like he was having a legitimate crisis of some sort trying to wrap his head around all of this.

"Orchid! We deals wiv dis laters!" He balled his hands into fists and stomped the ground. "Dese udda Mobs can stay for nows, but dey stay OVER DERE!" He pointed across the grass, basically on the opposite side of the small clearing between the cave's entrance and the edge of the forest. "I gots to talk to yous, privy-like!" With that he trudged towards the goblins' side of the clearing, where some of the others had already returned.

At this point the group had at least obtained their objective of getting out of the cave. Now that they were out in the open, however, there was a noticeable change in...well, everything. The wind on one's skin felt like ghostly touches and whispers after spending so long in an environment where the air rarely moved. The mid-morning sun shone bright overhead, so for creatures that had spent their entire lives thus far in the cave the light strained their eyes. The grass under their feet was soft, but the rough textures as opposed to the smoothness of stone gave one the feeling that there was constantly something crawling against their skin. The goblins were noticeably more tense, though it wasn't precisely fear--merely the discomfort that comes with a foreign environment.

Wej and the male torchbearer were the first to return, as they hadn't gone very far into the woods. Using Wej's wicker shield as an impromptu basket, it looked like they had been digging around the roots of several trees and searching the bushes for things to eat. There were a few handfuls of berries, a couple of soft looking roots, a few sprouts that might have been some kind of wild onion or similar vegetable, and then...

Fat, spotted grubs the length of a person's hand and thicker than a thumb. Beetles that looked somewhat like a Japanese Rhinoceras, except their horn split into three like a trident near its base. Lizards that, while more similar to a species of anole or gecko than to the Fanged Lizard monsters, still didn't quite seem to be the right color as the ones from Earth. And a songbird that looked like it had been dead for...a few days. Long enough to start rotting and accumulating maggots.

"We gots lotsa food dis time!" Wej said.

"Must be cause early Gobs catch early birds!" said the torchbearer smugly.

Bigs and Crispy's two minions came back with bundles of dead wood gathered from under the trees. Each of them had their equipment slung over their backs or around their waists and had put several sticks under each arm. The wood didn't look particularly large and some of it had pithy spots or looked damp, so it probably wouldn't last long, but they at least had enough for a decent fire now.

Orchid's other shieldbearer and Jezee, however, hadn't come back yet...

Jason, Asteria, Danny, Mother Rat, "Gawain"

"A Soul from Beyond?" The blue eyes blinked in surprise as Asteria explained her former life and the odd void between worlds where the Demon King recruited her. Then when she described said king the eyes narrowed. "So a new Demon King has risen. But for how long?" The eyes looked away from Asteria, distant in their own thoughts. "Of course, you wouldn't know. But if another cycle of destiny has begun, then perhaps..."

Asteria found that as she imagined her former self, her vaguely defined dream form took those qualities. However, she felt truly no different...was this of any purpose? Or had she merely used the lucid part of her mind to change this dream?

The blue eyes turned back to her when the Dire Rat asked if they could see the truth of her spirit. By this point the water was up past Asteria's chest. The distortion beneath the eyes seemed to become more defined, taking on a humanoid and feminine shape.

Much like attempting to run or fight in a dream and being unable to really put "pressure" or "strength" into one's limbs, Asteria's skills didn't seem to be working quite right. Still, maybe there was something there she could put together...

"I do see the truth of your spirit." answered the blue-eyes. "Though I still do not understand. The only way a Soul from Beyond could have undergone Reincarnation that I know of is the Ceremony of Heroes...but a Demon King should be unable to perform such a thing by his very nature..."

The water was getting over Asteria's neck. Soon she would have to hold her breath.

"But if you are truly a Hero, you may be able..."

No doubt, Asteria would try to swim or otherwise struggle to stay above water. But no matter how much of it she tread it just kept rising higher--and perhaps at some point, gasping for air, she might ingest some of the water.

A young man--no. An old man, who had been young once, who would always be who he was on that very first day--An old man walked wearily into the cave. A cape, tattered to ribbons, swept behind the heels of his cracked boots. Their soles had long ago worn smooth. His armor no longer gleamed and though his muscles were like dry leather and woven rope--strong, but fraying--he walked with a limp.

He drew a gleaming sword from a scabbard. There was no blood, nor grease, nor speck of grime upon the sheath's lacquered and polished surface, but the sword somehow stuck at the hilt until the man gently, yet firmly, pulled it free.

"This is where I got my start, you know. Ha...how long ago was that, now?" He lifted the blade, turned its tip downward. "The monsters here are quite weak. Little more than animals, just searching for a place to get out of the weather. Desperately clinging to life like the rest of us." He stuck the sword into the earth, its tip slicing easily through stone--however, despite how deep it went, when he took his hand from the hilt the blade tilted to one side and fell, pulling itself back out.

"No demons will think to look here. No creature here will have the power or the heart needed." Speaking as if comforting a child, the man picked up the sword and held its grip in both hands. Once more he turned the tip down, but the crossguard was held close to his body, across his chest. He stood statuesque. "But happy-go-lucky fools with big dreams, who know nothing of battle and war, will come here to train for the day they become a Hero. Talented adventurers, rebelling against strict mentors, will come here to show that they have what it takes, even though they don't. Children that overestimate themselves will come here to play, and be rescued by those with the seedlings of courage in their chests--even if they returned to the burned shell of a home."

His grip, still gentle, became firmer. He lifted the sword high and smiled.

"Courage is awakened, not passed on. Power is earned, not inherited. Wisdom is gained from life, not birth. That is why this must be. Sleep for a time, dear. I was only a man, who lived and died as men do. Another man will come. You will be in pain for a time, a terrible pain, a pain I despise myself for causing you. But it is my greatest hope, if the World Maker wills it, that another man will bring you happiness that allows that pain to fade. I am sorry."

He brought the sword down. A tear ran down the edge of the blade.

"Aegeus, unleash thy howl! Depth Charge!"

The entire cavern shuddered. The crater ate away at earth and stone, ravenously digging deeper, in a cascade of light. At its bottom, the sword's blade gleamed. Standing at the crater's edge, the man began to weave the air with his hands.

"Enduring fortitude, unyielding shield! Divine protection, within and without! Castle walls, treasure vaults, none could hold riches worth my charge! Yet I layer them, another atop another atop another!" The man's spell diagram was so complex and so bright it was impossible to decipher.

"World Maker! Witness my final moments! I pray for your guidance, comfort, healing, and protection--not for myself, but for my charge! Let this one who has protected me for so long rest in the deep, where she belongs!"

A second seal overlapped the first. The man spoke the last words, but the sounds were distorted as the memory began to fade.

All that remained were the sounds of crying. Tears streaming endlessly.

Asteria jerked awake with a start.

A New Dawn: Day 10 Since Rebirth. Day 4 Of Adventure.

Jason's Cave Group/Cave Escapee Group/Ash's Group (Goblins Not Included)

Over 24 hours of fighting. A goblin raid, building traps, defeating a boss...healing, eating, drinking...planning, splitting up, forming groups...finding shelter, resolving mysteries, discovering more questions.

It was mid-morning of the 9th day by the time many of the monsters finally settled down for some well-deserved rest. Just getting their "normal" amount of sleep left them with a darkened cave once more, and the extra rest required to make up for lost time raised the moon high in the unseen sky beyond the cave ceiling. A few of them might awaken, driven by urges for food or water, but as it so happened a light rain began to mist outside during the night. Drips and drops provided enough to wet the throat, and much like in the beginnings of their lives a little moss here, or a stray Herb there, maybe a juicy bug crawling on the ground, would stave off the worst of the pangs. Some were close enough to actual water to sate their thirsts. Others had eaten beforehand. All however, essentially woke up long enough to relieve themselves or get just enough to stay comfortable, then rolled back over. Theirs was a bone-deep exhaustion, the kind in which one begins to dream, awakens to fulfill some basic need, then immediately resumes and the next morning does not remember ever stirring.

Ash's group, though still unsure of the trustworthiness of the Goblins, decided to find shelter from the elements beneath the roots of trees and the branches of thick brush, or perhaps even climbing the rough slope of the cave to find hidden nooks and crannies, maybe disappear just over the curvature of the rough-shaped hillock so as to be out of sight of the goblins. They, along with Oberon's group, might have established a watch, but somehow some way they made it through the night unmolested.

Thus, in the very early and wee hours of the morning--even before the blue light of twilight dawn, before the last of the stars had twinkled out--they began to truly awaken.

At Jason's cave, at some point during the night Skeleblin_003 had joined "Gawain," standing watch at the front of the cave. An unfamiliar Dire Rat slept a short distance away, curled up on a flatter stalagmite overlooking the pool. A fourth (third, taking into account that 001 had been destroyed) Skeleblin walked back and forth between the cave and the dark corner where Asura had once found Momma Slime.

The various piles of dirt in different areas had been disturbed at some point during the night. Though most of them now lay open and empty, several new piles were present as well.

Also, though the rain had certainly dripped through several places in the ceiling, it hadn't really formed any puddles or trickling streams. For one thing there hadn't been enough water, for another most of it was diverted down the tips of the rocky spires hanging all over. Yet a puddle had formed, where the old goblin bonfire had once been. The ashes in the base of the firepit had turned to sludge. The mud was very churned in appearance, as if something had simply stood there and stomped around in it all night.

All of Asteria and Ed's traps had been dug up and removed, their holes refilled and patted down with dirt.

Near the nesting area where Ed, Asteria, and Mother Rat had begun their adventures, something had been placing rocks one on top of the other. Not little rocks either--the kind of boulders that would stay set in place, even if balanced precariously, for hundreds of years unless some drunken idiot pushed them over and posted the video on Youtube. This pile was only about three boulders high thus far, but by climbing on it one could almost reach the ceiling where a large patch of Mana Crystals had grown...right next to a crack that now streamed soft light and cool morning air...

Speaking of Mana Crystals, the Reincarnators had limited themselves to mostly using what they had stolen from Crispy's stash for the previous two days. Between this and Jason's herb garden--which looked as if a few more seed pods had been buried even after Danny and the others went to bed--the resources of the cave now seemed to be back to where they were before the mass overharvesting that took place some days prior. Then again, it wasn't just the Reincarnator's conservatism...aside from the area around Jason's cave, at present it almost seemed as if the place was empty...

Lucius Cypher Looking For Group

After a long and tedious talk, the goblin group and the monster group went their separate ways to opposite sides of the cave entrance. Orchid followed Crispy towards the goblin side, mainly to get food, but also because Crispy needed to talk to her. Tired and annoyed Orchid wanted to ignore him but knew that if she did that would only get his ire. She had hoped that she had verbally beaten him down already but evidently he was stronger than that.

Orchid would meet Crispy at the edge of the goblin camp, leaning against a tree with her hand crossed but close to her club. She still didn’t trust the goblins but then again she doesn’t really trust anyone. She just knows who is her enemy and who might not be her enemy yet. Once Crispy arrives Orchid says nothing and just listens to what he has to say.

When they stopped at the tree, Crispy turned towards Orchid with a frown. His eyes glanced at her club, close to her hand. He looked at her face, clearly tired, but still listening...but hoverhanding that club, and that hard glint to her eyes, left no question that she was considering a "what-if" situation. And now Crispy nodded in approval.

"Youngling, you know what you doin' right now? You bein' smart." began the older goblin. "If I was mad enuff at yas to hit ya, you'd hit me first wif dat dere club. Ya waitin' and seein', like Crispy." But now he pointed at her. "But ya makin' mistakes! Listen to Crispy, not an Elder Gob yet, but been roun' da cave a few times!"

Now he pointed at the other side of the clearing. "Dem mobs ain't s'posed to talk at all, but dey REALLY not s'posed to talk Gob! Humans talks, but dey don't talk Gob! If dey talks, why not talks Dragon-tongue, or Fey-speak?" He slammed a fist into his palm. "Anudda ting, if dey wants to helps us, why dey not bring nuffin' ta prove it? Pygmy Drake say can make potions, me ain't seein' no potion! Dun add up, it's, uh, capricious!"

But now he shook his head and turned away from Orchid.

"But dat not biggest mistake. Lemme tell yas bout da time Crispy saw dis mistake first--almost neva see any Gob make dis mistake. But Humans, Ventures, dey makes it lots!" He turned back to her, traced a finger along his tattoo.

"When Ventures come and I fall in fire, was hurt real bad. Human coulda killed me easy. But Rattleskull Smashed anudda one, didn't kill 'im but hurt 'im bad. Da one dat was gonna kill me? Stopped fighting!" Crispy looked incredulous, and seemed to be looking at Orchid to gauge her reaction as well. "Used red water potion, poured it on one dat got Smashed! Dat gave Rattleskull and sum o' da Old Gobs time to hurt anudda one bad, den we wuz able to get away! Old Gobs, before dey die, dey tell Crispy bout it."

He crossed his arms sagely, looking back towards the other goblins. It seemed the last two had come back--Orchid's last shieldbearer had filled his shield with rocks instead of food, and Jezee was carrying much firewood as she could in her two arms in front of her. They were stacked up so high she couldn't see over them.

"Is called "kindness." Biggest weakness evah for Humans, Elves, lots of tings. Gobs is smarter, so we sees how stupid it is--waste chance to kill enemy. Use tings ya gots for yaself on uddas, instead of makin' dem bring tings to you. You already doin' dat right, look at ya minions bringin' ya stuff! I tinks you tryin' to be smarter Gob--you tinks we makes da udda mobs our pets, makes 'em fight for us. Sumtimes dat werk. But yas bein'...ya's bein' nice to da udda mobs! Gobs ain't nice! When yas nice, ya gets stabbed in da back, or while ya's sleepin'!" He gestured over his shoulder with a thumb, back towards the cave.

"Just ta shows ya how stupid it is, when me an' my minions went to check out Rattle's body, we runs inta udda mobs too! And dey wuz askin' me for help--wuz sayin' dumb stuff about dunjons and zombos. Dey act like dey needz me--so I tricks 'em, cuz Gobs don't needz dem! Made 'em tink dey wuz gonna make fair deal! Dey say dey gonna meet us at old bonfire tomorrow, only gonna send one guy."

Now Crispy seemed to be feeling his oats again, and proudly held up one hand to cut Orchid off.

"But I knows wat ya gonna say! Dat's awful smart, let dem send one guy, den WE gang up on 'em! Pick 'em off one at a time! But Crispy do one betta!" He wagged a finger. "Just one guy, can't CHASE us! If'n he tries, all da gobs just gang up and kill 'im den! So Gobs home clear! We gonna leave stoopid cave--woods dangerous, but Crispy go on raids with Old Gobs and Rattle before, knows ways to stay safe...mostly. And knows where we can go!"

He put both hands on his hips, looking quite smug.

"So dere, Orchid, do ya sees? Kindess, dat a weakness. Gobs NEVER be kind--but when UDDA PEEPLES kind, Gobs smart! Gobs stabs 'em whenever dey sees da chance!"

Orchid looked at Crispy warily. One part of her wanted to feel happy that he praised her, but she wouldn’t dare show it. The other part understood what he said though. How kindness is a weakness. Orchid knew that all too well in her old life. Or maybe kindness was just how she rationalized her weakness and unwillingness to stand up for herself. Being so “kind” as to not talk back against her bullies and oppressors. Being so kind as to not ignore her family and do her own thing. Kindness was an excuse. Kindness got her killed and now she’s here fighting tooth and nail for every little bit she could get.

Got a while Orchid didn’t say anything and just shrugged. “Can’t say I agree with you. But you’re not wrong either.” Orchid didn’t want to bombard Crispy with her own lecture so she would do something she hasn’t done since she got here; be honest. “I don’t really trust the other monsters. I don’t even trust you goblins. But you aren’t trying to kill me right now and you’re useful, and that I can trust. Those monsters on the them side are useful, a few of them at least. That’s really all there is to it.” Orchid stepped away from the tree, hand still on her club as she looked towards the other goblins who gathered food and materials.

“But if you want to live outside of the cave you need better weapons and armor. Sticks and stones won’t protect you against adventurer weapons. And to get better weapons we need a home. Doesn’t have to be the cave but we can’t just keep running away either. So… Got any ideas?”

Crispy frowned again, but it was the kind of frown one used when they were frustrated because something was difficult to grasp. His anger had abated somewhat, but Orchid was likely still talking over his head to some degree. Still, he seemed to latch on to "better weapons" and "got any ideas?"

"Makin' weapons good, but right now we gots to rest. Gobs been up all night. Make Bigs an' Wej take first watch, dey been sittin' around da most." He looked around at the others. "You and Clod should take Jezee and Sqwal each, since youse strong and dey weak. My minions finish up da night."

He started heading back towards the camp. The other goblins had already begun to eat the grubs and other assorted things that had been gathered, and Crispy had to shout at them to make way so that he could build a fire. He speared a few wriggling things for himself on a pointy stick and began turning them over the crackling flames.

"Tomorrow, we's gonna head for a place ain't none of yas prolly seen yet. Is called a farm." Crispy said, taking a juicy bite out of a beetle, shell and all. "Dere's Humans dere, but dey weak...most of 'em. Sometimes Ventures is dere. But dere's lots o' places to hide roun' dere, lots of tings to steal. Like Cluckees! Any of yas ever seen Cluckees? Dey good eatin'!"

Clod, shoving a handful of berries into his mouth, approached Orchid. Now that she had figured out by process of elimination what name to address him by, much like the others he became a little more distinct in her mind. Now that she actually bothered to look he was one of the only goblins thus far she had seen to have hair--two little spiky tufts split from their root just above the center of his head. They were blonde, if that made it any more odd.

"If Crispy da new Boss, dat makes you da new Mid-Boss now, Mini-boss." said Clod. He held up his spear--the best of the three that Orchid had helped her crew make. "Ya dids good on dis spear, and da shields too...but I dun like da pointy bit on da end." He gestured to the stone tip mounted on the end. "Can only stick'em wif dat one end! Wanna be able to swing at 'em, too! Like wif Crispy's knives, but biggah! Tink yas could help me tomorrow?"

Orchid helped herself to some food, though she waited for Crispy to actually make a fire so she could cook the roots and grubs. Not the grosses thing she’s ever eaten considering she’s gone quasicannibal already. As she ate her food another goblin approached and asked her about her spear. Apparently he wanted something different. Apparently he wanted a sword. Looking around the supplies they had Orchid rubbed her chin. It was doable.

“Tomorrow… Yeah. Gunna need a few things but I could probably do that. You need to help too. But we can deal with that tomorrow.”

Once the other goblin was placated Orchid mulled on Crispy’s plan ya raid a farm. How strange that she’ll be going to a farm to raid it. Would they kill the humans living there? Would they keep the farm for themselves? What if adventures and such were there? A lot of questions. The one that she didn’t ask, and didn’t want to know; was it the right thing to do? Orchid was too tired to be philosophical right now. She needed to sleep. Put her back against a tree and her hand on her club she curled up and closed her eyes. No doubt there’ll be trouble eventually. Her watch would be coming up soon anyways.

And when her watch did come up, it was pretty uneventful. The fire kept the goblins warm while Orchid and Jezee, the young goblin assigned on watch with her, were on patrol. Jezee seemed more attentive than Orchid was. Perhaps he was scared. To alleviate his fears she gave him a shield though he only had a torch as a weapon. Meanwhile Orchid couldn’t really settle down just watching, so she grabbed a few sticks and such to make more twine and rope using the wood fibers. She’ll need a lot of it for the stuff she’ll be making tomorrow. Hell, she may need an entire day to dedicate into just making rope. She ought to teach some of the goblins how to make it. It’ll be worth it in the end.

At some point after her shift, Orchid went back to sleep. And not much long after she'd be awake. The fire was still going albeit slightly weaker, and the goblins on guard duty were still up. Orchid got up from her spot and stretched her body. She had some rope she never finished making nearby, and she still had plenty more to make. No doubt once all the goblins are awake they'll get to work figuring out what to do. Some would need to head out to fetch more food and water, some will need to get more supplies. Orchid needed to teach anyone with more than half a brain how to make rope. And of course, she'll need to check on her monster allies too. Orchid might be willing to work with them but the goblins still aren't convinced. And knowing of their traitorous ways they aren't going to try and be friendly. It'll be up to Orchid to make sure some sort of alliance works out. Fine by her though; she doesn't want the other monsters to get too friendly with the goblins in the event that she does need to leave the greenskins. Or vise versa.

In any case right now Orchid needs to make more rope. It'll be important since the first two things she wants to make for herself and the group are new weapons, and more importantly, armor. Shields were good but even a wooden breastplate would be better. Or maybe she could just make a shirt out of wooden panels, like how her mother made curtains. It was something.

Ardur The Pixie
Making Friends //// Another glorious day /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - cave entrance > forest

It seemed that crispy wasn’t taking the bait or hints. Honestly, Ardur had to remind himself that this was a different place and the concepts and principles he was used too wouldn’t work here. One thing is for sure, even if they were not being openly hostile towards each other they shouldn’t be trusted or underestimated. These goblins have proven just how troublesome they can be when they have good leadership and a good crafter.

But it would seem that whatever they had said had at least gotten something through to the older goblin. Crispy pointed at the opposite side of the cave entrance and stormed off basically saying they had a truce for now but otherwise were still separated. Ardur didn’t waste too much time waiting for ash or anyone else that came with her. Simply waving and picking up Steve to find a place to sleep near the top of the cave entrance.

It didn’t take very long to find a small shelf with an over hinge above it. The formation looked natural and was just big enough that he could lay down under the overhang and not worry about getting rained on. He was sure hypothermia was still relevant in this world after all. Setting the spider down, the shelf was covered with some moss and grass. For more than a moment the pixie stood their unmoving and breathing deep. Getting a feel for the cool breeze, digging his toes into the soil, breathing in the fresh air, and getting a good idea at what was normal for scents of the forest and outside world.

This place reminded him of home, at least more so than the cave. Fourteen days by his count. Fourteen days of being alive and away from Sarah. The thought of his former love brought him back to reality and what he must do. Even now in his tired and drained state he knew he had a few more things to do before he could sleep. Steve was nearby, she was hesitant about the grass and seemed a little more cautious now that they were a bit farther out into the open.

Steve.” Ardur quietly said to his friend, “cast some webs along the top of the cave, maybe we might get lucky and catch a few grubs in the night.” Although hesitant at first the spider slowly skittered off towards the mouth of the cave. It was nice that she seemed to understand his commands. Still, he had his own work to do. Slowly he began to work his way across the rocky, moss and grass covered exterior cave entrance to spy on the goblins.

Ardur crept slowly towards the goblins stopping here and there to stick some grass blades or moss into his spider silk harness. This was the least he could do to try and conceal himself. He wasn’t really trying to hear the goblins this time as he figured that most of their idle chatter was nearly useless. However, the pixie was trying to get a better look at what they had scavenged and how their equipment was put together.

Creeping close enough to make out what was going on as he crawled on all fours across the rocks. Ardur was eventually able to make out a few things the goblins where eating. Big grubs, strange beetles, blue colored berries, some roots, a few small plants that could be some sort of onion possibly, and small lizards. At least Ardur now knew that most of these things he was looking at where edible. If the goblins could eat it so could he, or at least he figured?

Then came to inspecting their weapons the best he could. From the dim light and distance he was at, Ardur could make out some sort of lashing keeping some of the shields and spears together. It looked rather fibrous, perhaps a type of grass or wood maybe. Some of the spears and clubs looked rather rudimentary with at the very best fire hardened tips. There wasn’t much else to be learned from them at this time. He couldn’t help but notice that he couldn’t see Crispy or Orchid nearby. Figuring they were off doing whatever it was that goblins do, the pixie slowly backed out of the area and back towards his little nook.

Ardur found that Steve hadn’t returned just yet from her task when he got back to their little space. The goblins that he could see from his vantage point seemed to be calming down. The pixie found himself sitting down on the edge of the small crevice slowly going over a few memories he still cherished. This time it was when he and his partner would have long shifts in the ambulance. Listening to music to them was a way to cope and deal with the stress of their jobs.

They would just sit there and listen for hours either driving or just hanging out at the station. One of their favorites slowly started to drift into his mind, and again Ardur found himself trying to conjure up some of his remaining mana to sing once more. Hopefully this would help the others sleep who maybe hadn’t heard any music for the last few weeks.

Shortly after he finished singing Steve made her way back. She looked like she was more than a little wore out. He couldn’t help but smile at his friend before crawling under the small lip. Petting his friend briefly before falling asleep.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It was strange. For whatever reason his dreams where always strange here. Bits and pieces of what they had gone through but what he held onto and hoped for the most was seeing her face. Hearing the love of his former life’s voice echo through his mind. However, he knew he couldn’t linger on these thoughts. He was sore from the past day and now he was thirsty and hungry, as was Steve.

Ardur stood from his cold bed taking in the sights and sounds of the morning forest for a moment. He noticed it had rained slightly through the night but figured he just slept through it. The moss he was standing on seemed to be retaining plenty of water by how moist it felt. Picking up some of it and squeezing out some of the moisture into his mouth. It helped to stifle some of his thirst but he was still hungry.

Steve, go check your traps im going to try and find some food. Stick around the area and see what you can find just be wary of the goblins.” The spider seemed to acknowledge his words before slowly scuttling off. Ardur stood on the ledge once more and sighed, “Praise the sun” he said with a smile enjoying the momentary warmth. Then after one more breath the pixie stepped off his platform and flew off into the forest to look for food.

Of course he wouldn’t stray too far, he was simply looking for the same foods the goblins brought back the night before. This also gave him a chance to explore while still proceeding with caution so that he may have less of a chance to be caught off guard.

Asura didn't have any issues sleeping but he kept an 'ear' open for anything unusual. They were undisturbed through the night though and when he woke up he got a system message. He wasn't hungry, he was rested, and he was thirsty. The only source of water he knew of was in the cave. But he could drain what little blood was left in Rattleskull's body to stem off the thirst for now until he HAD to go back. With that he surged his liquid bulk into Rattle's body, taking the major routes and draining any blood he found.

He made sure to take a good 'look' when he was inside, mapping out what he could of a humanoid body. He knew no two were the same but if he did this more he'd learn more. Once the body was fully drained he started to train himself once more. Trying to climb and cling to the wall while lifting the heaviest stone that he could. A third thing he did was touch Mother Slime if she was awake. "What did you put your Skill Points into?" He questioned.

Oberon awoke to see the night sky above him.

It was still dark, the blue dawn just barely beginning to show at the edges of the world, but compared to the cave it seemed as bright as day. Taking a few moments to lie there and get his bearings the Sprite eventually sat up, pushing aside the leaves her had placed over himself as a blanket. He was sleeping among the roots of a massive tree, or massive from his perspective at least, and was surrounded on all sides by a variety of creatures; it reminded him that they had finally managed to reach the exit of the cave last night, right as it seemed like he was about to pass out from exhaustion.

Standing up and stretching out the kinks in his back he was not entirely surprised to see a system message appear informing him that he was thirsty and starving, though well rested. He imagined it might be the same for some of the others as well; likely the last time any of them had eaten would have been while they were preparing to fight the Goblins, which meant that their first priority was finding food and a water source. The former at least should be fairly easy, at least compared to the cave; berries, nuts, fruits, mushrooms, even if he didn’t know a thing about wilderness survival surely the forest had a lot of food to offer a hungry soul. Finding a supply of water might be a bit trickier however.

Tilting his head back Oberon looked straight up at the tree that they had all slept under. If there was a river or a pond nearby that would help a lot, it was just a matter of locating it. Stretching out his wings the Sprite began to ascend up to the lowest branch of the tree, standing on its surface before then flying up to the next branch; in this way he climbed the tree as high as he could, seeking to get above the layer of leaves and foliage and get a view of the wider world. If it turned out this tree wasn’t tall enough he would fly over to the next tree until he found one higher than the others.

Once high enough he would survey the area, looking as far to the horizon as he could searching for gaps in the tree line that might hint at some clearing that could hold a source of water or something else. He also tried to see past the edge of the forest, if he could see that far, to try and see what was beyond the local area; would there be a town or city nearby, the ocean, mountains? Or simply more forest as far as the eye could see.

It would be useful if he could see even further, or be able to make out what he could see a little clearer however. He remembered seeing a skill called ‘Keen Sight’ earlier, though it was far from complete at the time; had it increased since then? Maybe he could spent some skill points and level it up now. “Opens skills tab.”

Unfortunately not; ‘Keen Sight’ hadn’t increased as much as he would have hoped since he had last checked, nor did he think spending the few remaining skill points he had remaining would be worth it. Torrent had dug a small like hole to sleep in, surprised still by how flexible she was now.

It seemed she was the first to awake as she looked around. Besides the goblins, of course, who had sentries.

Shame, that. She wouldn't have minded killing that dumb gang boss in his sleep.

The outside was pretty. The city had trees, but not like this. And to see this nature.... She wasn't going back.

"I'm leaving," she announced to no one in particular before casually meandering towards the trees. She'd pass nearby the goblins, maybe give them a little scare to remind them they were beneath her, but not be close enough to be attacked.

Of course, her path would also bring her near Ash's little group, where she stopped. That thing looked like a little dragon, and vaguely she wondered if that wasn't one of the options she'd have or had. It definitely looked reptilian. For a few moments she scrutinized the thing, curious.

And... That looked like Mourningstar, if her memory served her right. There was a vague memory that she'd been looking for Torrent... So she curled up and waited. No point in disturbing the sleeping.

Jason snapped awake with a start; relieved to no longer be drowning in the darkness of his nightmares. However, waking up to a barrage of of notifications was definitely going to take some time getting used to. Fortunately, it appeared that the Mana Disorder was on the verge of wearing off despite the fact that Mana Burn continued to persist. If he was lucky, one; if not both status effects would be taken care of before he had to meet Cripy for what was more than likely a trap... If the goblin even intended to show up in the first place. Looking around, Jason noticed several things; someone had planted more herb seeds while he was asleep, both Danny and Asteria were still asleep, and Ed had yet to return. Furthermore, it appeared that the core had brought him two more skeletons as well as a dire rat (whom Jason assumed to be DIRE_RAT_A). Had the Skeleblins tended the garden by command of the core? Or was it perhaps the work of some other mob under the Core's influence? Either way, it was most definitely the work of the core. Speaking of which, Jason still needed to finish developing [Dungeon Awareness I].

Rolling up to the core, Jason was met with a sudden realization that his inability to receive updates meant that a monstrous wave of information was going to assail his mind all at once. Strangely, this thought seemed to excite Jason; such strain would only make his mind stronger, inching him ever-closer to becoming something greater. However, he needed to be cautious-- the Core had already attempted to sway his mind once; and Jason was not keen on becoming a mere slave to the whims of the dungeon. Rather, it would be the DUNGEON that would change instead. Gathering his resolve Jason touched the Core; he was not the man his nightmares painted him as, he was righteous, he was JUST, and to ensure the fate he foresaw could never come to pass, Jason was going to teach these dead to live once again.
An incorporeal pain tore through Jason, threatening to tear him apart from the inside; and yet, he endured. The slime mage's body convulsed wildly as he fought to keep his mind together.

Holding fast for as long as he could, Jason separated from the core the moment he felt his thoughts become vulnerable; like they had when he first linked to the core. Collapsing as he pulled back, Jason tumbled out the front of his cave, puddling at the skeletal feet of Skeleblin_003 and Gawain. After gathering himself, Jason 'stood' once more, finally having completed the development of [Dungeon Awareness I], and could now begin the morning training regimen for his group. Curling up and rolling into the cave once again, Jason lightly prodded Danny and Asteria awake, "Time to get up guys, we've got a busy day ahead of us, and we need to start making preparations."

While he waited on the the others to get their bearings, Jason was quite eager to test his newly developed [Dungeon Awareness I]. Approaching Gawain, the now fully christened Dungeon boss cleared his throat, "Skeleblin_002, you are now to be addressed ONLY as Gawain, and will take on Gawain as your name or designation... Gawain, I command you to run one full lap around the pool as fast as you can; without touching the water. Avoid conflict whenever possible during this task, and if your survival is at risk at any point during this task, abandon said task and return here immediately."

Regardless of what happened next, Jason used the [Source Crystal] on Gawain before another thought came to mind; was this not a perfect opportunity to grind new skills? By lacking any means of naturally regenerating his Mana, as well as being truly out of Mana, an incredible opportunity to learn about the nature of magic presented itself, and Jason would graciously accept. Clearing his mind, taking slow, deep breaths, Jason reached into himself-- searching for (or the lack thereof) that 'secondary circulatory system' he had come to know as Mana. Carefully and gently he searched for the source of his ailment, thoroughly studying each and every apparent irregularity.

When Orchid went to sleep at mid-morning, Bigs and Wej were left to sit up on first watch. The goblins had all eaten well, and unbeknownst to the others the two watchgobs would trade off with each other on their own--or just plain get lazy--dozing under the shadows of the trees and within the light of the fire. The benefit of this, however, was that their watch went on longer; by the time Clod and Sqwal took their shift, it was already dark. They were more serious about their duties, but Clod might have disturbed some of the others--at one point, Orchid might have stirred at the sound of him slamming the rocks he had gathered against one another, or rubbing them against the trees to test their sharpness.

Around midnight, Orchid and Jezee took their posts. Working in the dark, and with dry, dead wood that had been gathered from the forest floor rather than cut fresh from the trees, it took Orchid about an hour and a half to strip enough bark that she could make cordage. Even then, the inner fiber was of poor quality for the most part, and kept breaking or fraying. But she was the goblin with the most skill at crafting, and she had made rope a few times before at this point. By the end of her watch session, she had made about 4 feet of well-made cordage. Crispy's minions took over in the wee hours of the morning; if Orchid had to guess, by the position of the moon, probably around three o'clock. She got a few more hours of sleep, but having relaxed herself by crafting and resting she felt wide awake and ready to go by the time the first blue mists began to rise from the dewy grass. While waiting for some of the others to stir, she managed to make another two-and-a-half feet of rope--her materials were worse this time, but again the ultimate result wasn't too terrible.

Combined with her (Average) Fiber Cord in her inventory, she now had a total of about 8 feet of cord, albeit in three separate pieces.

The other goblins were soon beginning to stir as well, especially once Clod got up and started banging rocks together again. He had filled his Wicker Shield with them the day before...but these didn't look like the rocks from the cave. He and Jezee had been the last ones to come back, so maybe he had gone further from the cave than the others? Perhaps to the north or the west, where they could see rising slopes in the distance? Of the eight rocks he had started with, two of them had been bigger than the goblin's own head. One of them was about the size of a big fruit, more than enough to fill two hands. Four of them were at least the size of a goblin's fist or so, and the last was about the same size as the usual rocks the goblins used for their weaponry--big enough to put a sharp edge on, but not much else.

However, thanks to Clod's own efforts--perhaps his own attempts at crafting--these original eight rocks had been broken down. Though Orchid wouldn't know it for sure since she had been asleep, the most reasonable assumption based on the look of the rocks probably went like this: Clod probably sat one of the head-sized stones on the ground, and hit it with the other head-sized stone. One of the two had broken in half. The one that hadn't broken, therefore the stronger, had been placed on the ground next and struck with the others in various orders of experimentation. The fruit sized one had also broken into two uneven pieces, one small and one fist-sized, but the stronger head-stone had only been chipped in one place. One of the fist sized stones had crumbled completely, apparently too flimsy in its compound of dirt, silicates, and whatever else that formed it. Again, the head-stone had only chipped. Another fist-sized stone had been broken as well, but the part that chipped off was too splintery to be used for anything. It did, however, leave that particular stone very sharp. The other two fist-stones hadn't broken or cracked, but succeeded in further shaping the head-stone. The stone that was barely big enough for an edge hadn't been used to smash the head-stone, but instead to scrape against it from various angles. Both had become sharper and their surfaces smoother.

Once again the two head-stones, or the one stone and its brother, now broken in two, were tested against each other. The two halves did not break further, and the first only chipped a little bit more along a fracture point Clod had already created, sharpening it even further. Unlike the Sharp Rocks Orchid had used for spear-points, or that Crispy had turned into knives, this piece of stone could easily be used as a primitive hand axe. But Clod wasn't done with it just yet. After waking up for the second time, watching Orchid make her cordage for a few moments, he went back to it.

He took the fruit-sized stone's fragments and examined them. Laying the sharp one off to the side for now, he took the fist-sized remainder and once again smashed it against a fracture point on his sharpened head-stone. Nothing really broke off of the bigger rock, but it had been knapped, or smoothed out. Then the two fist-stones that hadn't broken at all were used. Slowly the sharpened head-stone took on a more refined shape. By this point the sharpened side looked positively deadly for a stone-age weapon, and the dull side had been chiseled down and smoothed out enough that the rock could be considered somewhat "flattened." Clod apparently seemed happy with it, and now turned to the two halves of the other head-stone. Each half was roughly the same length as his sharpened piece, but only one side of them had broken smooth and the rest was still lumpy and unformed. He went to work on these with his harder pair of stones just as Orchid was finishing her last piece of rope.

"OI, WHO MAKIN' DAT RACKET?!" The whole camp buzzed to life as Crispy woke up. He hadn't taken a single watch the entire night, so had to have slept better than the rest of them, but now that he was awake he acted as if they had disturbed him all night. He glared at Clod, who bashfully hid his rocks behind his back, then got up and began stomping around. He berated his minions for letting the light rain the previous night dull his fire down to smoldering embers (the goblins were dry enough, having stayed under the trees or close to the overhang of the cave entrance), and then snapped at Sqwal for having allowed his torch to go out after his watch.

"Jezee, Bigs, Wej! Go find more food!" he ordered, and the three scrambled to obey. Finally sitting down to poke the fire back to life, he looked over at Orchid.

"Yas have any more o' dose weird dreams?" he asked her. "Meant to tells ya bout dat too. My Mudda had dreams, ya knows?"

Orchid might notice that the rain had left the trees dripping with moisture. She wasn't all that thirsty but her mouth was dry after sleeping all night, and it would be quite easy to gather up enough water in a large leaf or something to slake her need.

Ardur

As the pixie flew off into the forest all by his lonesome, he would find the sense of freedom and exhilaration he felt in the air far surpassed what he had experienced in the cave. By that same token, however, he might feel more exposed...

Because he was looking for what the goblins had found--bugs, plants, and berries--he would of course have to fly closer to the forest floor. Once he was down there, he would soon find a bush with several large bunches of berries, but they weren't the same color or shape as the ones the goblins had been eating. Those had looked a lot like earth's blueberries, although less vivid in color and more oval than round. The ones Ardur looked at right now were a darker green, almost the same as the leaves of the bush they were growing from. Rather than ovals, they were perfectly round like English peas, and bunched together in shapes almost like a pomegranate that had already had all its skin peeled off to reveal the pellets inside.

But there was something else for the pixie to see, too. That light rain from the previous night had been just enough to darken the dust, and in the moist soil it seemed like earthworms--or nightcrawlers, was there much of a difference?--were poking up out of the ground here and there to escape drowning through their own skins.

It was still awfully early in the morning, and so far Ardur hadn't seen any dangerous animals in the forest...

Asura, Momma Slime

As Asura sucked the rest of the blood from Rattleskull's torso, leaving it a dried out husk, his thirst was slaked. Blood was a liquid, and had an ample amount of water in it, but it wasn't quite the same to drink. However, for now it would do...he just might get thirsty again later. His "anatomy analysis" revealed a few interesting things to him--the bugbear's muscles, organs, and other things were structured about how one would expect for a primate. More like chimps than humans, however, his muscle fibers were longer and denser. Also, his appendix, spleen, and liver seemed larger by proportion than what would normally be found in a human--and for some reason bugbears apparently had only a single, much larger kidney. How interesting...yet mostly irrelevant.

When he asked Momma Slime about her Skill Points, she showed him an image of her memory. When the blurry words came into focus and shifted into Asura's language, he would note that she had apparently put all 38 of those points into Blunt Resistance, activating it and then upgrading it all the way to Rank IV. And at (4.35), it was about a third of the way to the fifth rank as well.

"Wut Skeelz do nao?" asked the blue blob.

Oberon

As Oberon climbed the trees, he would find that last night's misty rain had left the branches and leaves dripping with moisture. It would be no problem to find a larger leaf and collect enough water to slake his thirst, however it might take several "cups" considering he hadn't been drinking much yesterday, and now had slept through the day and night. His hunger might be another matter, as his rumbling stomach reminded him.

At the top of the tree, as he peered out across the land, he had a much better view than any of the Reincarnators thus far at the world they had been dropped into. Though he couldn't see forever, he soon began to form a mental map of the cave's surroundings. If only he had better eyes, or a magnifying glass, he might be able to zoom in to see details better.

To the north, and to the west, the slopes and hills that formed the land became steeper. The Otherworldly Cavern looked to be a place that had formed between two smaller cliffs that, at some point likely in the distant past, had collapsed against one another. Layers of dirt and plantlife had coated them, turning what was likely once a steeper, tee-pee-esque triangle into a more rounded dome of sorts. Now the cave looked to be little more than a grassy knoll, wedged up against other small cliffs on a gentle slope and giving way to a grassy clearing. But those mountains to the north and to the west, they rose up higher and higher...from the treetops, Oberon could see them clearly. Tinged in blues and purples, barely outlined against the still dark sky, their peaks glittering under the starlight with what had to be snow and ice...If Oberon had ever seen the Rockies, the Andes, the Alps, or the Urals, these would be just as breathtaking. And they stretched for miles both north and and south, going on and on and on.

Somewhere on those slopes, a single orange light flickered. Barely the size of a pinprick, it nonetheless pulsed like a beating heart.

To the south, the edge of the forest reached out like a curling branch. But the treeline here was much thinner, and gave way more readily to the grassy clearing between itself and the cave's entrance. Oberon still couldn't see well enough past the trees to know what lay beyond, but unless he missed his guess the land was considerably flatter in that direction.

To the east, the forest's main body lay in wait. The trees were large--compared to Oberon's tiny body, they were like the largest redwoods one could imagine. They were some type of hardwood, very similar to oak or yew, though there were a few other species mixed in as well. The brush grew thick in some places, not so much in others--this forest was old enough to form a sunlight-blocking canopy in some places, but had been trimmed enough over the years that the ground wasn't barren. Had it just been goblins cutting those trees, or were other creatures--maybe humans--harvesting them? Or perhaps this area was prone to natural disasters like fire or strong winds that thinned the trees every so often?

So far, Oberon couldn't see any immediately obvious sources of water. He could, however, see smoke to the east. It was thin smoke, barely visible at all if not for its whiter color against the lightening blue color of the horizon, and the darker color of the higher atmosphere. From how thin it was, it was clear that it had to be several miles away from the cave at the very least...

---Skeleblin_002 [Gawain]---
Skeleblin, a Skeleton-type Undead-class Monster created from the remains of a Goblin. This Goblin likely died from natural causes a long time ago. It is fully grown, with bone fusion and tooth decay indicating age. These bones are still naturally hard enough to be used as materials. Magic energy can be detected within them. This magic animates the bones and allows them to move without muscle. The magic energy that creates undead is typically charged with negative emotions, or sometimes under the effect of seals, curses, or other spells that prevent the soul from leaving the body. It is infused with magic, but has no magical skills yet. These magics are negative and volatile in nature. It is under the effects of an environmental magic. This Skeleblin was revived, and is currently assimilated, by the [Otherworldly Cavern] Dungeon. By nature, Skeleblins are roughly as durable as living Goblins, but their strength has decreased. In contrast, their lighter weight allows them to move more quickly. They retain the ability to use tools to a limited degree. If not manipulated by a necromancer or some other source, most Undead will single-mindedly pursue living creatures with hostility. They do not normally possess self-preservation instincts or any form of intelligence. This Skeleblin only has access to the Use Light Equipment skill from its former lifetime. It is currently not developing any new skills, and others have been deactivated. You have reassigned this Skeleblin's designation as [Gawain].
---Analysis Complete!---

Source Crystal needs to recharge. No Mana Crystals in Inventory.
System:Jason

The Source Crystal turned gray and dead in Jason's gooey grip. Gawain's eyes glowed slightly brighter, then without warning the Skeleblin took off at a full sprint. It was simultaneously comical, awkward, and disturbing to watch--with no tendons or muscles to hold them in place, Gawain's limbs flopped and flailed wildly in a far too-large range of motion. His bony spurs clack-clack-clacked into the distance as he raced around the pool, a distance roughly about 30 meters. It would take the Skeleblin about the same time as it would take a human walking average speed (5 miles per hour), despite the creature running full-tilt. Perhaps it was due to its lack of height or muscle, or maybe even having "increased speed" compared to a living Goblin just didn't mean that much.

As Jason settled down to try and meditate, he would find at first that he couldn't seem to feel his Mana the way he had before. For one thing he was still reeling somewhat from the flood of information from the Dungeon Core. For another he had just received a great deal of information from the Source Crystal. For a third, his efforts to actively feel out his magic seemed at odds with his effort to...not make any efforts. That is, it was hard to "rest" oneself if one was still thinking about all the things they were trying to do. As time went on and he sorted himself out, he began to feel more centered and at rest...but he still couldn't feel his Mana as clearly as before. He had clearly overdone it yesterday, and despite a full night's rest and taking care of himself with food and water it wasn't going to be so easy to recover.

Ardur The Pixie
Another glorious day > Freedom and Food /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - forest

The rush and freedom of movement being able to fly through the forest was exhilarating for the pixie. The cave could not compare to this, it was always closed off and claustrophobic. However, it was also protected and secure. He didn’t have to worry about getting lost or not having the cover to be able to hide from predators or other unfriendly creatures. Because of this, Ardur kept to the trees and even though excited about the freedom here, would not venture out into the open air.

As the pixie glided through the air he did find it quite troublesome and unfamiliar to have to keep a close eye out for other monsters. Just because he hasn’t seen them yet doesn’t mean they are not around. He did spot a small shrub with clusters of green berries. He stopped for a moment to stuff a few of these berries in between himself and the spider silk he wore. The sticky substance did help with keeping things in place.

Ardur didn’t know if the green berries he was picking were edible or not but after hearing what ash had to say the other night. Perhaps she could use them for a potion or at the very least tell him what they did so he knew he wasn’t eating something that would make him sick or worse. Plucking a few of the leaves from the plant as well, the pixie didn’t stay at this shrub for long and would constantly stop, look, and listen to his surroundings.

Once satisfied, he gathered enough for ash to work with and weaved enough leaves into the spider silk for added protection from the elements. Ardur took to the air once more only to spot something wiggling in the dirt below. Pausing for a brief moment the pixie glided by the worm like creatures and attempted to pull them from the ground as he flew by. If this worked he would then begin to make his way back towards the cave so that he may drop off the berries to the others and eat a few worms on the trip. Either way, if he was going to continue to do scouting missions for Ash he would need a back pack of some kind. It was just too bad that he couldn’t scan the plants or anything else for that matter.

Danny didn't need a system message to tell him he was thirsty. Luckily he should be able to easily fix it. He left the hole he had been sleeping in and headed for the pool to drink. He noticed a couple more skelebins in the cavern and he wasn't sure but he though there was one more Dire Rat as well. He ignored the seemingly non aggressive newcomers, though the sight of a skelebin running around the pool caught him by surprise mostly due to how strange it looked.

Staying away from the edge of the water he used Lesser Force to lift a little bit to his mouth and started drinking. When that was done he decided to experiment some more. After he collected another perfect sphere he tried something he honestly didn't expect to result any result. Without dropping the water he used Mana Orb I, while also using what little skill he had in Mana Shape to make the orb hollow with the floating water trapped inside it.

Ed dreamt of noting while he slept.

The young dire rat had not forgotten the dream, no, it was the kind of dream where he was in a void. No sound. No light. Simply nothingness. Time seemed to crawl to a snail's pace, when moments seemed to stretch into hours as Ed's body felt rigid and stiff; barely allowing any movement beyond minute changes to where he could stare infinitely into the void. But soon enough, he woke up in a cold sweat. His breaths short and ragged as his eyes rapidly darted around the area he had slept in Jason's cave. Letting out a deep sigh of relief that he was no longer in that hell he dreamed of. Standing on all fours from where he had slept, he then received the notification that told him that he was well rested but also starving and quite thirsty. Food and water would not be an issue, the only real issue is passing through the entrance again. He told nobody this but the animated skeletons of the goblins, disturbed and unsettled him. Even if they seemed non-hostile, the fact that something dead was still animated and moving kept him on a constant state of alert and instinctual fear. A loud grumble from his stomach accompanied by a need to drink something, pushed the poor rat into desperation.

"C'mon you can do this Ed. You can do this." The young dire rat spoke to himself in an attempt to pump himself up to dash trough the entrance and hopefully not see or hear the undead...things that guarded the entrance. After taking a number of short breaths and exhaling them quickly, Ed dashed out Jason's cave as fast as he possibly could...with his eyes shut tight screaming like a madman: "I CAN'T SEE YOU NOR HEAR YOUR CREEPY NOISES! LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA!" to drown out the fact that more of the skeleblins had appeared and deafen him to clicking and clacking of the rattling bones as one marched back and forth. Ed, successfully avoiding a confrontation from the undead goblins, met a tragic fate as he did not take into consideration how fast he was going and how close he was getting to the pool of water until he ran head first into the placid waters with an ungraceful, yet magnificent splash.

Mourningstar

This was a bad idea, this was a horrible idea, this was a terrible idea.

She stared at Crispy from across the makeshift camp, listening to his rantings and ravings as she wondered just how loud here Mana Blade was. More than once the thought of just slitting his throat in his sleep had crossed her mind, but now was not the time for power plays, not yet. But staying near him was a bad, a horrible, a terrible idea. Thus when Torrent announced her leave Mourningstar was quick to follow. It would not be a permanent leave, but a good hunting trip would be good for everyone. "Torrent and I are going for a hunting trip! Everyone who wants to come with can do so, I imagine a lot of you are just as hungry as I am." She announced loudly as she scooped up a leaf with Lesser Force, gathering water on her way out so she could feel a little less dehydrated.

As she passed by one of these dew covered branches, Mourningstar had the sudden idea to snap one off and try to use it as a weapon. Mana Blade and Mana Shot were good, but they were much too costly to be using in active battle so much, what she really needed was a melee weapon. Being a mage was nice and all, but she needed a way to defend herself when she inevitably ran out of mana. So as she stared at the branch she "held" she focused on it and used Magic Analysis. There would be no mana in there obviously, it was a tree branch after all, but being able to understand what it was made of would be integral in imbuing the item with mana.

Descending the tree again, hopping down one branch at a time and using his wings to slow his descent, Oberon made a note of just how damp and slick with moisture the bark and leaves were. Although he had been unable to spot any large water sources from above, there seemed to be more than enough water after last night’s rain shower to at least slake his thirst.

Pulling off one of the large leaves he bent it into a kind of flexible bowl shape and held it under the streams falling off of the tips of other leaves, collecting the rivulets of water until he had enough to drink and repeating this process until he felt his thirst subside. With this dealt with he continued to lower himself to the ground until he found himself back on the ground.

It seemed that in his absence a couple of people had begun to awaken and move around; Mourningstar and the lizard called Torrent were both up and as he approached them he heard the Wisp announce that they were going hunting for food. Although his thirst had been dealt with the Sprite could feel that his hunger was a growing problem; he had no idea if he needed more or less food for his size compared to a human but it was clear he needed to eat something soon. “I’ll come with you.”

Flying to catch up to them Oberon stopped once he was level with the Wisp. “I saw the surrounding area from above; there are mountains to the North and West, more forest to the East and what looked like open plains to the South. There’s also smoke to the East, far away enough that it might not matter, but we might want to avoid heading that way for now. Just in case.”

Asura took in the information of his make-shift autopsy gave him. Primate body, single kidney, etc. It was interesting and gave him a better internal way of taking down further bugbears. As a slime he didn't exactly have the highest damage output, even with Smash. But if he could get inside he could cause some serious havoc. Part of the reason why he chose to be an Amorphous Slime instead of a Metal Slime.

What Mother Slime showed him with her skills drew a long sigh from the smaller red slime. "Well that makes it so you take less blunt damage." He explained. Holding up the rock he showed her pictures through the mind talk that if he hit her with it it'd do much less damage than it would if she hit him. "You shouldn't have put them all into that one skill though. You should have put points into a few of each, especially ones you don't have active yet." He said, explaining through his own Skill Tree.

All while he was doing this he continued the slow method of trying to Cling to the wall like a red booger and lifting that rock. He extended his pseudopod to make the rock heavier through leverage and not just its weight alone. "For more offense I'll teach you Smash so you do more damage." He said to Mother Slime. She could see one of his pseudopods bunch up into a makeshift fist. He seemed to flesh before he Smashed the wall he clung to, making it crack from the force. To help her learn it he gave her his starting memories of Smash.
