At the site of the original battle, a large helicopter troop carrier emblazoned with the logo of the Purge landed. Kami stepped forth first, his movements like those of a predator. No energy was wasted, no movement without purpose. It was a sure sign of an elite warrior, and those with experience could tell in a single glance that this was a seasoned veteran of many battles, although none knew how many. The legendary vampire slayer stepped forward. In one hand he brandished one of his custom-made Katana, in the other a hand cannon that made the Desert Eagle feel incompetent.
Of course, he had brought backup. The Paladins, elite warriors from the Purge army. When a high-ranking Purge warrior was wounded beyond repair, they were interred into these giant mech suits, their feeble human forms discarded for a body of armoured steel. Their brains and nervous systems were directly linked to the suit, allowing for them to manipulate it with the same ease of a flesh and blood body, with far more force behind it. Their armour was like that of a tank, reinforced with specialized alloys. Their blades were large and heavy, each weighing almost a ton. The blade was equipped with a diamond edge, capable of shearing through steel with ease. Their shields are 20 cm of armoured steel, reinforced with diamond fibers and tubing to absorb kinetic impacts. Both Saint Comfort and Saint Everett had arrived, two Paladins who had supposedly lost their lives in the Night Wars, only to be revived in service of the Purge.
Kami examined the area, both Paladins flanking him and spreading out. There was no need to stick together, their readings clearly showed that there were no enemies within the area. They also knew that there was a struggle nearby, Kami had a tracker on Ved. They would soon intervene, although Kami paused for a moment beside the corpse of Utah.
[He died recently, take him to base. Freeze him. Let the docs sort him out. We might be able to extract some information from his brain, if we can recover it.] Moving on without further thought, Kami advanced towards the Diner. Two Crusaders dragged the corpse to the helicopter, where it would be cryogenically frozen within a pod.
[/The enemy is ahead, sir. We're ready to engage./] The paladin's voice was deep and rumbling, and without emotion. They had sacrificed their humanity for the cause, and served even beyond death. Such petty things as human compassion and mercy had long been purged from their minds, leaving room only for loyalty and faith.
[Proceed.]
Each step like the roll of thunder, the two massive war machines charged forward. They broke through the walls of the diner, stone collapsing around them, brandishing their massive weapons. Within an instant the tides were turned, as the two goliaths descended upon North and Eric, seeking to eliminate them.
Behind them marched Kami, observing from a distance. It was clear the odds were in his favour, and there was no need to intervene. Not so long ago, he would have ruthlessly slaughtered the enemy. But his old nature was resurfacing. He would watch them fight, and he would grant them a chance, a sliver of hope. Should they fail, then their deaths would be justified by their weakness. After all, it was the fate of the weak to fall before the strong.
