Personality:Simply put, Haruka is a quirky girl with a personality that can be better described as a troll. She's the type who likes to take what others say and spin it to her enjoyment, oftentimes bordering on fabricated stories. Most of the time, she has a quip or rebutal ready at the tip of her tongue and very rarely stumbles with her words.
As a raising pop idol, Haruka's "face", the sweet, cheerful and charismatic girl, brimming with youth and energy, is known by most, though her true self, a mix of her stage self, the and unrelenting troll with a penchant for weird subjects on psychology, philosophy and sciences, is rarely seen on stage or near it, being an aspect reserved only to her moonlight job as a Chaser, or the times when she's just enjoying her life.
However, when it's time to shoo the clowns, Haruka can become incredibly cold and analytic, using her sharp wits and powers to outmaneuver and defeat most threats that the Youkai can throw at her, or her current allies. Finally, this same Haruka is the one that engage in backyard scientific endeavors, trying to perfect her late father's work, specially his Opus Magnum, the erm... unique Project AURORA.
Short Bio:The only daughter of the genius scientist Dr. Marito Yoritomo, Haruka had an easygoing life, taking after her father's passion for the guitar and sciences, however putting her own spin to it, Haruka became a raising idol after, known for her soft low voice and great looks, however, because her career doesn't allow for it usually, very few know that Haruka is very skilled with both the guitar and the piano, in addition to her singing and dancing.
After her father's death by the hands of the notorious Edward Harker, Haruka took on Marito's research on advanced robotics and as of now, built a secret laboratory (with the help of Aria) to carry on Marito's work on the world's first completely functional android. She has also taken on the life of a Chaser and has plans to enroll on Sonomachi's University of Science and Arts (to study Philosophy) at the beginning of the next semester, even if this will have to put a temporary break on her idol career.
Powers:Haruka's power is known as Universal Language, the ability to influence others and even the world itself, with her words. This ability, is more like an advanced form of suggestion, that turns true anything that aren't outright impossible. However, Haruka can't use said power on herself, or warp reality in anyway, much less to outright mind control people, since all of these are out of her scope, at least until now.
Essentially, it would allow for things such as, she telling someone "Your feet are numb, you'll fall on your next step", and said person would fall if they took another step, or "Even if you try to shoot me, your gun will jam and become useless", which would cause said gun to jam, if the person she spoke to tried to shoot her with it.
Haruka also learned a bit of magic from Aria to be able to summon and dismiss her sword at a moment's notice and other simple cantrips, but this really isn't her specialty
Weapons:Shiranui: A treasure, being a shirasaya chokutoh (that is a guardless straight bladed sword) that can generate and control electricity and plasma in the form of a pale blue lightning bolt. Most of the time the charge is used to shock whoever is hit by her attacks, but she can also "shoot" the lightning by manipulating the potential difference between her and other objects.
Equipment:Mask of the Void: A mask depicting the symbols of the Sun, Moon and Stars, it's said to be made of the "hardened interstellar void", but has no powers or functions besides being completely indestructible.
Haruka also owns a custom built BMW S1000 RR racing motorcycle, with an improved suspension, chassis and brake systems, specially made to be able to jump the gaps between most building without suffering extensive damage. She also always has with her the best smartphone model she can buy, some money/credit cards and at the very least a couple packs of Pocky.
Other:Haruka declared publicly that she has a girlfriend and and little to no interest in boys, whoever said girlfriend's identity is secret.
Also, as befits her troll nature, Haruka greatly enjoys British comedy, finding it almost impossible to resist laughing her heart off with their quips.
Lastly, Haruka is fluent in English and knows a bit of both French and German, since her father's notes are written is a literal soup of idioms, to make it harder for people to decode them and use his work for evil purposes.
Personality:Harumi used to be a loner with a serious tendency to keep people away from her because she, ironically, never had any good human relationships before getting involved with the supernatural. A bitter life had made her grow tired of the world at large.
However, Harumi still held a deep inquisitive nature, the boundless curiosity of an unfulfilled child —one could say— and a stubbornness that would make a mule look tame when she made her mind about something.
These days, Harumi still keeps traces of her old self, but the unfettered life as Reiko's apprentice changed her fundamental view of the world. Now that she knows that the supernatural is all too real, Harumi can't help but get excited around being such as kitsune, ghosts and fairies, despite that, she finds jarring the fact that no one, even Reiko, believes that aliens exist.
After all, if there are espers, (alleged) time travellers and (again alleged) people from other dimensions running around the world, why there can be aliens out there somewhere?.
Short Bio:Being the only daughter of a divorced upper middle class couple, Harumi had a privileged (but cold) life most of the time until a unexpected turn of events got her in contact with the world of the supernatural.
Since she is an unplanned child, born out of an one night stand between a couple of careless students, neither of her parents cared too much for Harumi, thinking that money would solve all the problems that a crappy upbringing created. Harumi lived with her mother (a cardiosurgeon) until she became a high school student, when she moved to a studio apartment (after enrolling on, then recently co-ed, elite prep school, Kaname Academy) and managed to live on her own, after becoming full of her parents' crap.
There, she met her first true acquaintance, ***-kun, a boy that had obvious feelings for her. However, Harumi hang around him mainly because she didn't knew how to turn someone like him down, even so, there was no way for her to retribute with feelings that she didn't had. In time that backfired grievous and oonly a stoke of luck spared Harumi from a grisly fate.
Harumi's life changed radically after she was saved by a mysterious swordswoman who was hunting down a spirit that had chosen Harumi as its next target. Shortly after, Harumi was brought to the Hunter's Association on a day when no one other than the World's Most Powerful Mage was making a rare visit to her tutor's headquarters. Reiko took Harumi in, since she was in dire need of a new domestic helper... apprentice an, the rest is history.
Powers:First and foremost, Harumi is a psych, having a rather high potential, but little to no means of exerting her main ability of her own free will, or better, of controlling its output. Simply said, Harumi is a medium that can contact and interact with spirits of all kinds, however her reserved of Spiritual Power is so huge that it keeps "bleeding", making Harumi into a big lure for Youkai and other spiritual beings, like ghosts. Needless to say, such a bothersome power is the source of unending grief to Harumi.
Since she was born a Psych, Harumi can't even use her Spiritual Power to cast magic, which for some can be considered a relief, since her tutor/employer, Asamiya Reiko -The World's Most Powerful Mage- theorized that Harumi could surpass even her if she were to find a way to use magic. Even so, such an endeavor our really not within Harumi's list of wishes.
Weapons:Harumi doesn't carry any weapons in the strict sense of the word, instead she uses magical Ofuda (talismans prepared by her teacher Reiko that can be used to number of situations) and, if the push comes to shove, good ol' martial arts to get her through the perils of a Chaser's life.
Equipment:Kaguya: A ceremonial tool in the shape of a short sword, it's in fact a reproduction of the a treasure long since lost. The blade, despite having a rather sharp edge, isn't meant for battle, but as a focus to the wielder's Spiritual Power.
Truth be told, Harumi has little to no use to the sword since she can't use magic. Reiko gave it to Harumi as the mark of an accomplished apprentice, just like Reiko herself had received it from her own master, thus Harumi wields the blade with quite a bit of pride.
Dress of Heaven: Another one of Reiko's heirlooms, Harumi's shrine maiden dress, is enchanted to be as sturdy and offer about as much protecting as a military grade ballistic vest
The dress also has the neat function of being able to turn into a bracelet (for those moments when a cosplay-like suit isn't the best choice of attire) and back with a simple voice command. The dress also displays Harumi's version of the Scarlet Sage's crest (a white rose over a red field), which Harumi is quite happy to flaunt around.
Other:Despite everyone else's opinion on that matter, Harumi is a firm believer that UFOs and Extraterrestrial beings do exist.
Can do pretty much any household chore as well as any experienced housewife. In fact, if it wasn't for Harumi's domestic skills, Reiko would still be living in a huge trash pile.
Has a thing for bad boys, however her luck is very poor and she tends to end up with scumbag boyfriends pretty much whenever she gets one.
"The fate of me and those around me are one and the same."
Name: Kiara Bastion Title: The Unilyst of the Court Gender: Female Age: 19 Height: 155 cm Weight: 53 kg
Personality:
Originally a staunch advocate for "justice and truth", the harsh reality of the world has made Kiara a bit cynical over the years. Despite this, she still cares deeply for the people most close to her and still retains a sense of duty when it comes to helping out other people. She likes to keep up an image of carelessness and humor, especially in the midst of combat. However, this free nature of hers can lead to dangerous results when faced with an enemy's intent on killing.
Although generally working alongside the Chasers, Kiara very much has her own agenda, though it's nothing for her fellow partners to be concerned with. All she wants is to keep her world safe; helping out the Chasers is just the best way to go about that. She does not view herself as inherently good as she does not believe in a world so black and white.
If something seems like the right thing to do, she will do it, even if it does end up causing trouble later down the line. In this respect, she can appear naive and sometimes even selfish. But in the end, she'll use her blade only when it is backed by her full resolve and devoid of doubts.
Background:
A girl who has no recollection of her past. Memories are few in between, especially in the last majority of her life. Instead, all she has to go by is a name and a strange sword. Taking up the weapon known as Volunta in hand, Kiara wanders the earth in search of purpose and identity. In that time, she has found a friend and ally in several mages across the land.
Powers:
-Synthesis: Kiara retains only one unique power, and that is the ability to make others forget her existence. She can apply this in a number of ways, even in combat situations. She can appear and disappear in flashes of great speed and dodge attacks, not because she is ungodly fast but because she can make the enemy forget in brief moments what they are attacking. As such, it’s not uncommon for onlookers to be amazed at her impossible feats when in reality, they are merely forgetting Kiara's existence in that time frame.
This gift of course must be monitored at all times. Synthesis is a power directly tied to Kiara’s emotional output. Therefore, she must be careful, lest she accidentally erase her own existence from people’s memories permanently. Fortunately, her existence can be replenished in worse case scenarios by utilizing the final function of her Volunta.
Skills:
-Expert swordsmanship, using a two-handed style
-Peak agility and stamina
-Mastery of her Synthesis
Weapons:
The Volunta is a Japanese chokuto with two three-barreled revolvers melded onto each side of the blade above the weapon's guard, with a dark blue coloring patterned on the hilt. The weapon can fire out short bursts of energy that can propel the user, giving them speed and distance. Furthermore, the melded guns can fire off shots of energy and the user can slice crescent waves at the enemy. Other than that, it's retains the functions of a regular sword.
Finally, Kiara possesses one final trick in her arsenal; a desperation attack where she charges forward and plunges the Volunta into an enemy's chest. The weapon will then drain that being's very existence away. However, the technique itself drains away her own existence if used, so she must ensure that her target gets taken out with the move in order to survive the attack.
Equipment:
-A hooded long coat that can be summoned by will. It acts as a first line of defense, protecting her from most forms of weak magic. Along with this, she also carries around a small cellphone.
"Magic and tricks are all relative to one’s perception."
Name: Aria Title: Magister of the World Gender: Female Age: Speculated to be centuries old; physically appears 14 Height: 147 cm Weight: 49 kg
Personality:
Despite Aria’s childish exterior, it is most unwise to treat her as such. Make no mistake, Aria is perhaps the wisest member of the Chasers, having many decades of experience in running the place. She can often times appear stoic to her peers and students, keeping her emotions under control and never losing her temper. Rumor has it that she alone is able to calm the greatest tantrums.
Despite her business-like front, Aria cares very deeply for her junior Chasers and encourages others to seek assistance from her and ask for solace if anything is to bother them. She will go to great lengths to punish any who threaten the Chasers; to her, they are more than enough for family.
And then there are those...strange aspects exuded by the Magister. She heavily enjoys the many rumors between peer and student alike that involve her, taking great amusement on what people will come up with next. Furthermore, she seems to have an addiction to sweet things, almost always having some kind of unhealthy treat with her at all times. Rumor also has it that one can actually appease her by bringing her sweets if caught in a disloyal act. Of course, none of these rumors have either been disproven or verified.
Background:
Not much is really known about Aria’s history or origin; it is said that only the World’s Strongest Mage and the most senior members of the Chasers know of her past. All that is known is that she spent a great deal of her life building the Chasers to what it is today as well as overseeing the training of future Chasers as well. Another rumor that circulates is that she fought alongside the original evils of the world, and numerous reports verify this seemingly truthful statement. Some rumors even hail her as the original benefactor of the Chasers along with being the one who trained Reiko in the art of magic.
However, there is one clue to Aria’s past that is legit to its core despite the haze of mystery surrounding her. Centuries ago, an event occurred which forced Aria to be separated from her original body. As an Esper, finding a replacement was not difficult, and soon she took over a new vessel, that of a young vampire on the verge of death. This form is the same one living and breathing today, not a single sign of age appearing on its figure.
These days though, Aria spends her time overseeing the newest generation of Chasers along with hosting a temporary base for them in the form of a small magic parlor store; said store is also a café and pawn shop. There, Chasers can help themselves to drinks, relaxation, and cheap, low prices on equipment.
Powers:
As an Esper, Aria possess vast amounts of telekinetic power, making her the most powerful psychic among the Chasers. She can bend this power through various uses, including reading other's minds, moving and controlling inanimate objects, controlling people's actions through thought alone, and the unique ability to transfer her conscience into a dormant body to insure survival.
Having the physical body of a vampire, Aria cannot physically age. Her durability, speed, and strength greatly surpass her youth-like appearance and it is said she can even cure small illnesses using her vampiric nature. Finally, Aria is perhaps the strongest mage in the Chasers’ ranks, having taught Reiko all that she knows now. Thus, she is skilled in a wide variety of magic.
Skills:
-Mastery of her Esper heritage
-Peak agility and stamina
-Mastery of most types of magic
Weapons:
Aria carries no weapons.
Equipment:
-Aria carries no equipment, though she is rarely seen without sweet treats at hand.
Name: Jun Kaiki. He doesn't like his name so he prefers to be called by his surname 'Jun'
Title: Cryoslinger
Gender: Male.
Age: 19
Height: 1.73 meters
Weight: 74 kilograms
Appearance: Jun Kaiki is a blonde haired man of fairly average height. His eyes are blue, round and big.
He tends to be dressed in large coats or similars during winter, which almost always are colorful, along with a pair of pants and a long sleeved shirt underneath his coat. He still wears long sleeved shirts even in summr or spring, though. He vastly prefers them because he can simply roll the sleeves back if needed.
He wears a pair of glasses with a black, square frame. He doesn't exactly need them and they are not corrective, but he feels more intelligent with them (not to mention that he loves propping them up).
Personality: He is not the strongest man in the room. He is aware of that. However, he always does try to be the smartest one in the room.
He is cunning, manipulative, arrogant and often times sarcastically sharp. In fewer words, he is an asshole.
Jun prefers to keep his social interactions to a minimum, however. He is good at academics and his marksmanship is second to none, but he is painfully aware of the fact that several other people surpass him in other aspects of, mainly when talking about sports or physical capabilities. He prefers only to engage in conversation with people he can brag about his brain and intellifence with.
Despite his often unfriendly nature, however, Jun is in fact a lot more of a good kid that you would expect him to be. He is just one big attention bitch seeker. If you want, you could also call him a bit of a tundere. He is too shy to admit that he just wants the attention and too proudful to admit he was wrong.
He may even shoot you, for all that matters.
Regardless, he always tries to be helpful and support his teammates, even if it doesn't seem like it or if his words often contradict his actions.
Short Bio: His mother is a simple Japanese woman and his father an American weeaboo who came to Japan as a kind of cultural exhange and ended up staying after meeting Jun's mother.
His real name is in fact 'Kaiki Aster Jun', but to better fit in Japanese schools, he decided to use only his mother's maiden name.
Aside from that, well, Jun's life has been more or less boring. Honor student, good with a gun, dealing with bullies by making them feel stupid, one or two beatings he had to go through. Nothing really special, aside from being a Chaser of course.
Also, he doesn't like his name because he doesn't like the character Kaiki from the Monogatari Series, nothing more, nothing less.
Powers:Cryokinesis
Jun has the power to create ice out of seemingly nothing, though he in fact freezes the moisture ever so present in the air, rendering this power useless in arid areas or such.
He can mold and shape ice to his liking, making weapons and the like is an 'icy' matter for him. Get it? *cough*
Jun prefers to use his power to mold bullets with which he can freeze his opponents at long distance with his gun. He cannot, however, flash freeze an opponent due to their corporal heat. It'd need several bullets for him to actually freeze an average sized adult.
He can also create ice below the feet of his opponent to make them trip or make his bullets more pointy in order to pierce through some of his opponents.
Worst comes to worse, he keeps a ninjato hilt with which he can create an ice blade to protect himself in close range, though he tries for this not to happen.
Equipment: A pair of holsters by his sides for his guns.
His glasses, though when he gets actually serious he takes them off.
Binoculars
Other: Great marksman and avid otaku. He also keeps with himself some book or other, though the cover always seems to be the same. Often, the books he reads are Light Novels. He also keeps a pair of earphones in his person at all times.
"I don't need anger management...you just need to stop pissin' me off."
"Call me Kat." Name: Katherine Sinclair. "Kat"
Title: Havoc Aegis.
"Well, if you want to know...I'm actually an amorphous space alien-WHAT THE HELL do you think I am?" Gender: Female
"Meh. Old enough. Age: 24
"Tall and got legs that can kick your ass. Got a problem with it?" Height: 5'8", Roughly 1.76 meters.
"Don't worry, that's all muscle." Weight: 154lbs, Roughly 70 kilograms.
"Seriously, are you blind?" Appearance:
Blonde hair usually tied back into a ponytail and dull bluish-grey eyes are the things people would notice about her. Standing roughly at five foot seven, thanks to her rather athletic build she can come off as a bit intimidating to some people. Her snarky attitude doesn't help either. Usually, she wears a dull grey military vest stocked with all kinds of different ammunition and other things. Like her cigarettes, and a canteen filled with the good stuff. (That's alcohol.) Various first-aid supplies and other stuff that someone of her profession might need in a pinch.
Under it, she wears grey, military armor designed to be lightweight and able to stop a bullet if it had too. It covers only her vital areas on her chest, leaving her arms quite vulnerable. As for pants, she wears black military issue pants, modified of course to hold more equipment that is essential for surviving in the Crimson Sky. Insulated to be resistant to heat and cold. On her hands, she wears open-fingered gloves to help with gripping things. Wears steel-toed combat boots. Yeah, you do not want to get kicked with that.
"Me, eh? I like tacos, cheap ramen, and puttin' a bullet in some jackasses head. You wanna date or something? Buy me a shiny new gun and a bottle of vodka then we can talk. Oh, and I don't date older guys, so don't even try."
Personality: Kat, is usually pretty friendly despite her snarky attitude and somewhat hostile seeming behavior. A sarcastic jackass, some would describe her, anyone is fair game for her snark and insults. Even herself, if she does something stupid. This makes people kind of...well, they don't exactly dislike her, but she doesn't exactly have a lot of friends for this reason. Not that she really cares.
Despite the bit of shunning she receives from other people, she's not a bad person and doesn't think much of it. Mostly, she just doesn't really care much of for other people, since they don't really care much for her, though she will save a total stranger if she happens to be in the same general vicinity whether they like her or not. Still, she can't stand most people and would rather work on her own, or a well functioning team. Unfortunately, the latter is proving difficult to find.
Clever and resourceful, she's quick to adapt to most situations.
Short Bio: She grew up in London, though never knew her real parents all to well. She was adopted by a rather wealthy family, and had an easy time growing up. She's always had an attitude problem, though, even as a kid and was constantly getting into trouble. Smoking, drinking, getting into a lot of fights, doing...extracurricular activities with her friends. Basically your typical delinquent, and she hasn't mellowed at all since then.
Joined the military at the age of 18, and dishonorably discharged after turning 22 for getting into a fistfight with a superior officer after disobeying orders. Moved to japan after that, in hopes of possibly finding her biological father, along with working with the Chasers.
Powers: Force-field generation. Kat has the ability to make, and manipulate localized barriers. She most often employs this by keeping what someone might refer to as a 'shield' around herself almost at all times. And while it's no means impenetrable, it can easily provide quite a bit of protection from most projectiles.
The force fields can come in many shape and sizes, though most often she prefers making them sphere or square shaped and can be used for more than just defensive purposes. Slamming a large one into an enemy at high speeds tends to hurt. Not to mention trapping, and slowly crushing something to death inside of one. Her favorite though, is using them like bullets themselves.
Of course, they can be used traditionally for defense, if she has to, though it's not her preference, even if it's what she's probably most skilled at using them for.
Most often, they appear clear, turning a dark blue color near the edges.
Weapons: Her favorite Remington-870 Shotgun. Combat Knife. A back-up pistol, a Glock 17.
Having awesome kick-ass powers are nice, but she never discounts the reliability of human firearms and man-made weapons.
Equipment: Lightweight combat armor. Not gonna stop any serious damage, but can provide some protection. Extra Ammo for her toys. A few first aid supplies. Can administer basic first aid to injured people. It's not gonna be saving anyone's life, but it can get people back on their feet long enough to not get dead.
Other: Excellent marksmanship, thanks to her military training. Skilled hand-to-hand combatant. Doesn't know when to quit, even if she's been pretty badly injured. Fairly agile, even with her combat gear.
"I look young for my age? Yeah, I get that a lot." Name: Rui-Ling Kazanari Title: Spirit Hammer, Gordeau Gender: Male Age: Has stopped aging when he was 17, having lived 158 years by now. Height: 5’5 Weight: 179lbs
Rui-Ling’s body is absolutely, utterly, unmarked. There are no blemishes on his skin, no scars, no birthmarks, no wrinkles, only a completely smooth, uncannily pure body. He wears white gloves over his hands, to hide the only part of his body that’s abnormal. Of course, if one was to note that he’s supposedly a half-Japanese, half-Chinese human being, his silvery hair and his sea-green eyes already make him rather odd.
Rui-Ling didn’t take immortality and eternal youth too well. For one, it killed his chances of getting it on with his high school crush, and two, all his personal identification was useless now, as even the most blockheaded police man would understand that a 17 year old who had a 50 year old passport probably was using a fake one. Despite this hatred towards his own bodily condition, however, he still sees it as something that’s useful. After ten or so deaths, Rui-Ling gave up on the idea of suicide, and now holds the view that his body is just a commodity. He thinks nothing of selling his blood, his organs, his very life, and, after a century or so, had become so accustomed to immortality that he’d rather kill himself that take medicine.
Rui-Ling strives for two things: self-improvement and entertainment. Despite literally having all the time in the world now, he does not laze about vacantly. He seeks to be a polymath and a paragon, plunging himself in academics and arts, taking advantage of his eternal youth in order to make up for his lack of talent. Though ultimately resigned to only have his efforts acknowledged by bystanders and youkai, he strives on regardless, making up for his decisively human body by accumulating the knowledge and experience capable of making up for it. And, with such experience, he sees himself as an older brother to other Chasers, someone who should die in their steed and make sure they don’t get in over their heads.
Of course, there’s still a bit of arrogance as well, when he sees other, older individuals who choose to lounge about instead of do everything they can, and Rui-Ling’s eagerness to kill himself can be viewed as disturbing by more than one individual.
Rui-Ling had been normal once, a long, long time ago. He could hardly recall those days now, honestly. But one day, he found a Treasure, one that fused with his very soul and rewrote his existence. That Treasure was Airgetlam, the silver arm of a god, capable of tearing the soul and mind from the body. With power came immortality and eternal youth, a wretched existence that made it impossible for Rui-Ling to live a normal life with an ordinary sort of happiness ever again.
It sucked for a while, but after he got over the shittiness of immortality, the boy realized that he could make a killing selling his organs to the black market, his blood to hospitals, and his flesh to the monsters of the Crimson Sky. While he had his share of dangerous and sketchy situations due to this way of conducting business, he made it out of such situations more or less whole and sane.
After he accumulated enough money to get whatever he wanted, Rui-Ling went on to improve himself, picking the Chaser life over the whore life, accumulating a variety of skills and knowledge over the fifty or so years that he had been in service.
Airgetlam, Silver Arm of the King of Gods The silver left arm of Rui-Ling, Airgetlam, is a Treasure, capable of piercing through both the physical and the magical. It can touch the very soul of a being, and, in the same vein, has the ability to tear or beat them out. However, this intangibility only lasts up until his left shoulder, and, outside of being an indestructible, intangible soul-stealing arm…that’s it.
A certain amount of physical force is required in order to dislodge a soul from its body, but after that happens, the body is put into a comatose state that can’t reverted until the soul is put back into the body. In a way, one can almost think of Airgetlam as the strongest non-lethal weapon in existence, capable of stopping anything with a soul, without harming their physical vessel at all. Of course, if Airgetlam was applied to spirits…they’d just sorta die. Claimoh Solais, The Soul’s Piercing Light The ‘power’ that resides in Rui-Ling’s right hand, Claimoh Solais isn’t actually an artifact. Instead, it’s just a spell that Rui-Ling created and named after the Sword of Light because it worked well, thematically. Utilizing Airgetlam’s soul-taking abilities, Claimoh Solais is a spell that uses those souls as ammunition, creating powerful beam blasts that are rather effective against any physical or magical obstacle. Despite this, however, Claimoh Solais is a spell that is largely ineffective against living beings, making it an offensive spell used more for removing obstacles while Rui-Ling is running towards someone with the intention of punching out their soul.
Originally, it was meant solely as a way of destroying souls, because some people deserve to die for real.
The Legacy of the Tuatha De Dannan As someone bearing a piece of a god, Rui-Ling is, essentially, an immortal with eternal youth and vigor. He doesn’t need to sleep or eat, and he can push past the boundaries of ordinary humans, performing mildly superhuman feats in exchange for tearing his body up. However, this immortality of his is a big pain in the ass, in that, unless he dies, it doesn’t really reveal itself at all. Rui-Ling, once he sustains injuries, can only heal if he kills himself or falls asleep. A broken bone, for example, would not heal until he stabs himself in the throat and his whole body resets itself.
Essentially, it’s a real pain in the ass whenever he fights a merciful, gentle opponent who has no intent on killing him, because then there’s no way he can properly take advantage of his immortality.
A handful of souls. A sharp knife. An old handgun. A bottle of poisonous pills.
Cash A messenger bag full of mementos. A cheap cellphone.
Rui-Ling could, funnily enough, be considered a glass cannon. In the end, his body is still limited to the utmost capabilities of a human. A gun is still a very viable weapon to use against him…at least until he starts to constantly slash his throat and instantly resurrecting himself. Then, it’s like a horror movie.
Claimoh Solais destroys all non-living things. Against a human or a youkai, it’s basically a stripping beam. Against a robot or an cyborg, however, it’s a death sentence. Both those things has gotten him into trouble in the past.
As his abilities stem from his ‘divinity’, they technically cannot be classified as a supernatural power. After all, a soul is a very natural thing.
Interestingly enough, while his resurrection is generally instant, he does have the ability to slow down his revival, allowing him to go zombie-modu for ten seconds after he dies, provided his head didn’t explode.
If placed in a situation in which his body is crushed or dropped in a fire or dumped underwater or penetrated with foreign objects or inflicted with curses and diseases, Rui-Ling instead ‘respawns’ to the closest safe area, gaining a whole new body as the old one turns to ash. If that wasn’t the case, he could really just toss himself into space and die forever.
Lucille often dresses in black or grey garments, as depicted above. She keeps her gun and extra magazines hidden in her overcoat and out of sight. She often wears high heels, which combined with her respectable height usually allows her to look down at most people. For the rare times that she is seen during daylight hours she wears sunglasses and carries a dark grey umbrella to shield herself from the sun. Her scarf is also on her person almost all the time, but especially during the day. Her skin is somewhat pale but remarkably smooth and young despite her age. There are no scars or blemishes on her body, not even under her clothes, though she does have a case of heterochromia (one iris purple, one iris pink). Her silver hair is mostly cropped to shoulder-length but some extends even beyond her waist. She appears as if she is in her twenties though that is far from the truth.
Personality: A woman of class and dignity. Lucille was always very educated and time has only made her grow wiser. Her calm maturity comes as a surprise, as her behavior is akin to a woman in her fifties when she only looks to be in her twenties. To that same effect she can take a mothering nature to teenagers and young adults, considering she has experience raising children. She will baby fellow Chasers that are much younger than her, despite looking to be of a similar age, and she'll do it whether they like it or not.
While she is caring of others, particularly others younger than her, she still has the capability of turning cold at a moment's notice. Serious matters require serious efforts and Lucille is no fool. She can read a situation quite accurately and act accordingly without skipping a beat, much in the same way she can understand other people and treat them accordingly. Her empathy and respectful nature makes many consider her to be a mother-like figure or perhaps a matriarch among the Chasers. She isn't particularly known for getting angry, but nobody wants to see her when she is. Any outbursts of rage are quite dangerous considering her abilities but thankfully it isn't easy to push her to that point. Lucille only gets angry when other Chasers get hurt, and she only becomes enraged in similar but more extreme circumstances.
Short Bio: Born as Lucille Ptackova in the Czech Republic, she married into the wealthy Renfield family with her university sweetheart Milo Renfield at the age of 27. The Renfield family had been the owners of a famous textile company for generations, with Milo's father being the CEO of the HatCo. corporation at the time. Though her life was rich and leisurely it was relatively unremarkable. Lucille and Milo had two children, both boys named Steven and Harold, who were groomed to become the next owners of their family's corporation. Milo, however, tragically passed away from a terminal illness at the young age of 45, leaving Lucille a widowed mother.
The Renfield family was eventually able to cope with the loss. Her two boys grew up smart and capable, and are studying at Oxford University in the present day. This left a middle-aged Lucille all to her own devices. With no husband, no kids at home, and no real job, she had a lot of free time. She took up travel as a hobby, visiting many places across the world. The Crimson Sky wasn't on her itinerary, but lo and behold she wound up taking a wrong turn somewhere and her life has never been the same since. The aging woman was attacked by a humanoid creature in the middle of the night, being easily over-powered and forced to the ground for it to suck her blood from her neck. Lucille refused to go out without a fight though, drawing her concealed handgun and firing the entire magazine into the Youkai's head. This splattered its blood across her face but got her free, which she took the opportunity to run as hard and as far as possible.
It wasn't until the next day, in her hotel room, did Lucille see changes in her body. Her wrinkles and blemishes were all gone and she looked twenty years younger. She also learned quickly that sunlight was intolerable, to say the least. She had been thrown into the world of the Crimson Sky and had to change her lifestyle to fit her new needs. She became largely nocturnal and reclusive. She only communicated with her children and family by phone and never attended any business meetings except through video conferences. Most importantly Lucille began researching the Crimson Sky and vampires, which eventually got her noticed by the Chasers. As a woman of status and wealth the Chasers had a tough time tracking her down, but now she has become fully integrated into their ranks. Being a Chaser has broken her mid-life crisis of monotony, giving her something to do with her new powers and free time. And considering they mostly worked at night it was icing on the cake. She dreads the day she will have to tell the truth to her sons, but the mystery, intrigue, and action of being a Chaser is a great way to keep the thought off her mind.
Powers: Vampirism
Vampires have many abilities and traits, so for ease of understanding they will be laid out in two categories of "strengths" and "weaknesses". Some physical attributes include having enlarged canines, pale skin, youthful appearances, and low-fat athletic body frames.
Strengths - Lucille has strength, speed, and reflexes far beyond that of normal human beings. She can't quite dodge bullets but she can outrun most motor vehicles in a sprint. Speaking of motor vehicles it is actually quite easy for her to pick up a sedan and throw it though heavy vehicles such as buses and semis might be a little too much for her. Her endurance is also frighteningly good, allowing her to survive typically lethal attacks such as decapitation. She has a natural regenerative ability to heal most wounds within a few minutes, but regrowing mutilated parts isn't within her ability. She would have to reattach missing limbs and heal them back into place. To the same effect she has eternal youth, granting her a youthful appearance for the entire duration of her almost immortal life. Her senses are honed far beyond normal humans as well, allowing her to have flawless vision in the dark and a hound-like sense of smell and sound. She doesn't need to eat or drink to nourish herself, only drink blood. Though she can still enjoy the taste of most foods as she chooses. Lucille can create minions by biting a creature without completely draining them of their blood. They become subservient to her and lose all capability to resist her influence. Conversely she can create other vampires by letting other creatures drink her own blood, though they do not become natural servants to her.
Weaknesses - Even the most infamous of vampires have their weaknesses. The biggest weakness by far is the sun. Contact with direct sunlight will burn Lucille, even if it was only for an instant. It would only take a few seconds of direct exposure to burn her to a crisp. UV lights also burn her but to a lesser degree, taking over a minute of exposure to destroy her. While mutilation isn't fatal by itself, Lucille cannot control missing body parts. Though she has a natural resistance to poisons she is not completely immune, making poison a good way to temporarily disable her though there is no toxin potent enough to knock her out for much longer than a minute. Silver and Holy Water are natural weaknesses as well, causing burning sensations where applied. A silver sword can deal good damage against her, reducing or temporarily disabling her regeneration factor. Ultimately she only has three fatal weaknesses: sunlight, malnourishment, and silver striking her heart. She can feel pain to a certain degree, but anything short of those three conditions will fail to kill her. She needs blood to survive but can go up to a week without drinking blood. Any blood will do (except her own), but human blood is the most nourishing. If she takes longer than eight days to nourish herself than she will most likely die of starvation.
Magic
Lucille has a natural affinity for magic and has been trained over the past couple years by a fellow vampire named Aria. She is not well practiced and could stand to improve in this regard, but she can perform feats of magic to a certain degree.
Telekinesis - A limited form of telekinesis. Though not strong enough to move other creatures around it can be used for things like cups, plates, or chairs. Lucille primarily uses this to manipulate her weapons and to bring back mutilated or destroyed body parts.
Levitation - Lucille can use magic to levitate in place. This is similar to her natural telekinesis, but it only applies to herself. She isn't strong enough to magically lift another person.
Telepathy - Lucille can read the minds of others to a limited degree. It only allows her to hear what they are thinking in the moment, but she can also place her own thoughts into their head. This can be used as a way to silently communicate, as well as becoming an effective translator for non-human creatures. It is because of this magic that Lucille can communicate with dogs, cats, bats, etc.
Weapons: Colt M1911 Pistol - Because .45 ACP is better than 9mm Parabellum. Hollow-point rounds are used for maximum organic damage. Lucille's gun is always her first method of attack.
Equipment: Sunglasses - zztopcheapsunglasses.mp4 Umbrella - Designed to protect from rain, used to protect from sun. Designer Purse - An expensive handbag, popular among wealthy women, used for storing money, keys, and other miscellaneous tools or trinkets. Lucille's contains money, keys, an address book, a wallet, her phone, and hand sanitizer.
Personality:Kazuki is rather reclusive and quiet. He opens up once he has gotten to know people, but isn't one to go out and meet new people. He is more familiar and comfortable around chasers and youkai, than he is around other humans. He is pretty often cautious of his surroundings and people. He doesn't care that much about himself or others. He will do what he can to help others at his own expense, but doesn't share pity when bad things happen. He enjoys friends company, but doesn't contribute much to parties or events. He sort of just likes people watching and occasional conversation.
Short Bio:Kazuki is a bike messenger, and stumbled into the Crimson Sky by accident a few years ago. He fortunately met another chaser and was introduced to the Hunter's Association. The association helped him discover his powers soon after. He kept his job as a bike messenger to cover for his other jobs as a chaser. He found his pocket mirror when one of his deliveries ended up being to a dead guy. The mirror was sitting in the man's hand and Kazuki decided to look at it. He heard police sirens as he held the mirror and quickly rode off with the man's mirror and package. He kept both, but hasn't opened the package to this day.
Powers:Glass Make. Can make any object he can imagine appear in front of him, but it will be completely glass. Can change the durability of the glass, as well as the flexibility too. (Ballistic glass/ Willow glass)
Weapons:Just the weapons, armor and tools he makes from glass.
Equipment:Kazuki has a treasure in the shape a small pocket mirror/watch. The mirror steals a being's soul if the being sees their own eye inside of it. The more souls it takes the stronger Kazuki gets. He's not greedy so he still only takes from beings that need to be destroyed. The clock was on a random time and it began again as he picked it up. It fits fine in his pocket and isn't very reliable in battle due to it's fickle nature. He normally uses it after he has captured the subject. The body is left as a limp shell and the soul can be placed back into the body. Different souls can also be placed in different bodies. Kazuki does have control over what soul escapes the pocket mirror and when.
Other:He's a soul stealing ginger. Not sure what's in the package yet. I may make it something pertinent to the story or another treasure at the GM's approval.
Personality: Odelia has a very straightforward, selfish type of personality. She never takes in consideration of those around her, but doesn't do so to harm or spite. She shows a small range of emotions; going all out with what she loves or has her attention, able to only dote on one object virtually forever until another takes its place. With this love, most subtle displeasures can be effectively ignored or muddled through, but is known to explode should it hit levels she doesn't know how to deal with.
Short Bio: Odelia Adams is the third daughter of two upper class fools who've never worked a day in their lives; they both being the beneficiary of centuries worth of old money. Together, they live fun lives; doing as they please, but never spending a dime they don't have to. Only going to their rich neighbor's to party whenever there was any kind of social gathering. Eventually three baby girls popped out, only acting as a small speed bump in their socially active lifestyle until it was decided that Odelia was the last. However, their house is well below average by today's standards, and not once have they hired help to care for the property or the children. Instead, giving the girls mediocre home education and the ability to govern their own lives.
Odelia and her three sisters spent a lot of time together as there weren't many other kids their age. But as time moved on and their passions grew, Odelia became more of the black sheep of the family; preferring to spend her time learning about the more intriguing ghost stories and otherwise considered oddities instead of what was shiny, new, or fun. She was often seen spending her time roaming through the nearest towns, exploring their more unkept areas gathering rumors and uncovering the truth, while going farther with every passing year until eventually leaving home for good and exploring the world.
Powers:
| PsychoKinesis / Spontaneous Ignition |
Odelia's powers at its core is a very unstable variant of psychokinesis, allowing her limited psychic control over nearby objects with the off chance that what ever she focuses on can spontaneously ignite it or the air nearby before she looses her grasp of the object. However, spikes within her powers can cause a significant, though untested, discharge of destructive psychic energy over an undefined range.
Weapons: As a psychic, no weapons are actually carried, but she isn't afraid to pick up anything nearby should she feel the need to protect herself.
Equipment: - Bottles and jugs of volatile liquids just waiting to be set aflame and explode. - An assortment of various packages of lollipops in various flavors.
Other: - Multilingual, with moderate trouble in the more harsher German and Russian family of languages. - Loves things that are small. - Loves things that are adorable. - Loves things that taste sweet.
Age: 19 in appearance, at least 100 in actual age. He stopped counting once he reached the 100 milestone
Height: 165 cm Weight: 60 kg
Appearance:
Personality: If just one word was used to describe Carver it would be careful. Carver will never rush headlong into a situation, he will stand back and watch. A businessman in addition to a hunter, Carver makes certain that he will profit from any action he takes, not money though, he can make that hand over fist, but relics, materials and favours from powerful people being his preferred reward.
Short Bio: When Carver graduated he had little prospects, not that he wasn't smart, only that he lacked the funds to support any form of tertiary education. So knuckling down, Carver went out and got a job, with the hopes of working for a year or two straight in an attempt to go to college then. From their it becomes an age old tale of a door-to-door salesman taking a wrong turn down the wrong alleyway and coming out in Crimson Sky. Discovering his new found talents Carver wandered around and selling his enhanced wares at a premium price.
Powers: Symbols, runes, glyphs. What ever name you use to describe them, Carver uses them to allow him to fight at a level far above what his otherwise human physique would allow. Symbols on bullets to give them elemental effects is one of the more basic uses, but Carver’s main method is tattoos, invisible until activated.
When active Carver’s speed and strength are greatly enhanced. Depending on which tattoo’s he taps in what order can alter the balance of effects, such as purely enhancing his speed or toughness of his skin.
The method that has kept him alive so long is precisely his symbols, a special sequence painfully carved into his bones that enhances vitality and speeds his recovery.
Objects enhanced by his symbols come in two varieties. One is single use, such as bullets or protective talismans. The other is constant, these require more intricate, time consuming symbols and need to be recharged periodically. Thankfully any mage can recharge an applied permanent symbol.
Weapons: A lever action shotgun, an assortment of enhanced bullets and his body once activated. It’s almost a wand the way he uses it
Equipment: A series of markers. An engraving knife. Shoes that are marked to cause his footsteps to be silent. Clothes have runes sown in to improve durability. A series of enhanced wares, ready to sell
Appearance: The way Mami really looks and how she presents herself are two entirely separate things. Most of the time she looks like a perfect young Japanese girl, with long, silky black hair, pale skin, and brown eyes. During this time, she often wears traditional Japanese clothing depending on the season, like a padded kimono in winter or a yukata in summer.
When on a job, however, she becomes Alice. She dresses in various types of Lolita styles, depending on her mood, and changes her hair color to blonde and eye color to blue.
Personality: While Mami is usually sweet and docile, her Alice persona tends towards over-the-top declarations and a severely haughty attitude. When she is Alice, she is bold, overconfident, and tends to talk down to others. However, this is just a constructed persona and is easily shattered once she notices she’s made someone feel bad in any way. She really is Mami through and through, and always falls back into trying to help and comfort others with a ready ear and a kind word. N-not that she likes you or anything!
Short Bio: Mami didn’t grow up in a loving, proper Japanese household. Well, she lived in one, but she barely grew up at all. Throughout her school life, she was often teased about her height and development which were both incredibly stunted. She ended up finding refuge in Lolita fashion, which catered to the aesthetic of the short and under-developed, and through Lolita she also gained a fascination with the west. Western girls were all so pretty, with their light hair and beautiful eyes, and Mami wanted to be just like that. She knew that if she looked pretty like that, height would no longer matter. She thusly bleached her hair, grabbed up some colored contacts, and went to school where she was teased once again for looking like a shrimpy delinquent. She left school crying and dejected and, not paying attention to where she was going through the tears, she found herself lost. It was then that she saw a white blur rounding a corner, and something inside of her screamed to follow it. She chased the blur for a while, and found herself in a strange place with a red sky. A small white rabbit awaited her at a table, upon which were a variety of snacks and two cups to tea. She took a seat opposite the rabbit and, almost instinctively, she nibbled a scone and took a sip of tea. The rabbit told her that she had the soul of a true Alice, and that it was time she claimed her birthright now that the previous Alice had gone. Her tiny body overflowed with power, and suddenly she found herself safely tucked in bed at home. At her bedside was a tea set on a tray, engraved upon which was the phrase “For the one, true Alice.” Currently, when she isn’t being Alice, she works for her parents and helps manage the family onsen. When she is Alice, she works as a Chaser to help protect people from bad things. She was finally special, and it was important to her to put that specialness to use. She’s completely new to the job, and her true identity is unknown to all but her. Other chasers, the few that have heard of her, know her only by title.
Powers: Teatime- Mami can create teatime beverages and snacks out of thin air. These beverages and snacks each have healing or ability-enhancing properties, which may stack as long as one has room in one’s stomach. There are diminishing returns, however, and eating more than three of the same product results in somewhat negligible increases. After all, teatime is about enjoying a variety of things. It would be a waste to fill completely up on muffins of speed and not try a scone of power.
Dress up- Mami can change her appearance in a flash, whether it’s clothing, hair color, eye color, or any amount of cosmetic items including makeup. She can’t change her height, weight, or gender, however.
Weapons: None.
Equipment: Unbreakable tea set- No matter what happens, nothing in this tea set can be in any way damaged or broken.
Title: Executioner Vincent. Partly because it's his codename, partly because of what he does.
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Height: 6'10"
Weight: 450lbs.
Appearance: A hulking figure nearing seven feet in height, Vincent's body is tightly wrapped in thick, incredibly hard muscle. His face looks haggard and weathered, topped by a mess of blonde hair over green, tired eyes. His skeleton is thicker than a normal humans, and bone has broken through his skin on the knuckles, elbows, and other striking points. Every inch of the man's skin is covered by a set of gray BDUs and heavy combat boots. Black gloves and a heavy, hooded leather coat cover the rest. Vincent's face is concealed by a plain white mask, with a pair of black lenses covering the eyes.
Personality: A grim, silent figure, Vincent saves his words until he spots his next target, at which point he tends to declare his intention of killing said monster with extreme prejudice. Since the death of his sister, he's lost a spark inside of him, replaced with a deep hatred of Youkai. This has become his raison d'etre, and he rarely considers anything else.
Vincent had a huge soft spot for his little sister, and that can extend to people who remind him of her. Most other people get a blank glare at best.
Short Bio: Vincent spent much of his previous life mostly normal. He was a young man, working to support himself and his younger sister. Though life was tough, he was happy. One night, a wrong turn led the pair into the other world. Assaulted by man-eating monsters, Vincent saw his sister killed, and barely escaped with his life. The crazed pleas and police report soon filtered to the upper echelons of society, and Vincent found himself drafted into a government black project. The joint partnership of Japan, the USA, Germany, and England, had begun research into the paranormal and especially the Crimson Sky. While much of this new world is unknown, it was quickly apparent to government officials that many of its occupants were hostile to human life, and as such it was deemed necessary to create a new type of soldier to cull off these hostile beings. Vincent was abducted and offered a chance to join the first generation, on the basis of two reasons. The first was that he was healthy enough to potentially survive the dangerous process of enhancing his body. The second was that he had developed an extreme hatred of Youkai. There was no way he'd go rogue, and would happily oblige with defending humanity.
Of the forty-three chosen to undergo the augmentation process, twelve survived. Of those, ten were hospitalized with permanent disabilities, some unable to move. Vincent is one of the only two to fully become an Executioner.
In the time since then, Vincent has devoted himself fully to fighting off the Youkai menace. Every night he enters that crimson realm, and a trail of destruction is follow.
Powers: Vincent has gone through extremely heavy biological modification. His muscle and bone density has been increased several times, giving him superhuman levels of strength and durability. In addition, the bone thickness has increased and changed shape. His ribcage has fused, covering the gaps between ribs. He's also been implanted with a secondary set of adrenaline glands, giving him the ability to push himself further even during extreme bouts of fatigue or stress. Even his platelets have been altered, allowing him to better stop bleeding during combat. Though he lacks magical potential, the sheer physical prowess achieved by his augmentations allow him to fight the most ferocious of youkai.
Weapons: Initial contact equipment consists of a primary long gun, a handgun, and a melee weapon. Vincent's typical setup consists of a Saiga-12 with a thirty-round drum, a S&W Model 500, and a claymore sword with a high durability blade.
However, Vincent also possesses a Trump Card: the Executioner Special Armament System. A satellite is kept in geosynchronous orbit above Vincent's current location, passing into the other world by carefully weaving through the shadows in moonlight created by space debris. This satellite is capable of quickly deploying highly specialized heavy weapons via a drop pod, often of such a high weight that only Vincent, with his enhanced strength, is capable of using them. These range from immense, oversized swords, to gatling guns and anti-tank rifles.
Equipment: A small, red ribbon bearing no special qualities.
Other: Currently bears no affiliation to the Hunters' Association.
"To traverse beyond the heavens... It's a marvelous endeavor from the perspective of a wide eyed idealist, yet would you know what to do when you got there? How would you adapt to the unprecedented circumstances?"
Name: Ryou Ametsuchi
Title: Atlas, Hand of the Heavens
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Height: 1.87m
Weight: 75.7kg
Appearance:
Usual Outfit/What he looks like
Chasers Outfit
Personality: Arrogant and certainly not charming in the slightest, Atlas is a young adult who tries to keep himself a mystery and a badass, though failing most of the time. Over confident, he isn't afraid to get into get into the midst of a battle if he is certain that it will transpire and may get a little reckless in doing so. Even with his show offy attitude, he does have the skills at time to back up his boisterous boasting and takes pride in it. Atlas isn't adverse to learning, however as sometimes he may just swallow his pride and ask for some advice.
Atlas can get a bit... stressed at times during the job. It is usually just verbal lashing at his allies, but he ends up being sullen and apologize after he blows a fuse. Even with such a hotheaded vice, he does his best stay calm under any type of circumstance if this happens. Of course, he may snark a bit or hit on one of the girls which may mildly irritate others, but he won't push it so far as to cause bickering among the team.
Atlas and Ryou understands where they have to stop to prevent themselves from overstepping their boundaries. They also display immense respect to the Hunters Association, especially those who trained him up or saved him from merciless oblivion. If diplomacy is to start it off, he will do his best to display what ever little charisma he has... His loyalties do lie with his comrades too as he is adverse to abandoning his companions, and will be unshakable against the odds, despite his growing fears and gnawing doubt over the situation.
"It's been four years since that fateful day... and myriads more to come after this one..."
"So much time has passed on by, how I've gone from a fledgling Chaser to one who is a bit more professional... I still have much more knowledge to procure, and so many more decisions to make. I won't be able to assist Haruka in her club endeavors with money... and yet, do I really want to traverse down this path and attend a university while working as a Chaser on the sidelines, or become a full time Chaser?"
"I mean, I know I have myriads of opportunities to obtain, yet I feel excitement rather than the droll pace of life when among other Chasers... Do I pick between the thrill of life and its desires, or the more mature, stable passage? Do I give up on one, or is it possible to keep both without stressing out too much?"
"Damnit, what do I have to do?!"
Ever since the divide, everything has shattered.
In long days past, Ryou originally lived a happy healthy life with his family in the U.S., despite the hardships that transpired behind closed doors and closed minds. He performed exceptionally well in school, his parents holding him to higher expectations and hoping that their daughter would do the same. Friendships and rivalries were made, excellency and new knowledge invigorated the young man, and he lived blissfully with naught a blemish to his life...
... sort of.
Ryou's parents more or less bickered over some small inconveniences, but that was normal, right? They ended up a bit more troublesome when money became a bit too tight, all while their father was being careless with what they had. Eventually, they lost the home they were living in, and their mother grew tired saying enigmatic things which the child failed to comprehend at the time. The duo got a divorce, shocking both children as she managed to not earn custody over one, but both of her children. Ryou can still clearly remember the distraught on the teary mans face, the one he knew as father.
With connections as a business woman, hard work, and long hours, she eventually garnered a new position in her job within her home country. However, it was in an unfamiliar city known as Sonomachi. While it wasn't relatively close to her hometown, she took the job due to the better pay, which meant they could afford a better life at most. Eventually came the day where the departure of Ryou, his sister, and own mother was imminent. They all saw their dad one last time, giving them a heartfelt hug as they embraced the mans warm arms. Their mother gave a cool, nonchalant farewell to the man, but not before he apologized and made his ex-wife a promise. She chuckled before retorting with a genuine smile on her face that gave a ray of light to their fathers face. The time came, and then the trio departed to their mothers home country, leaving behind their father who made an oath.
"A promise to make amends, huh? Seeing as you try to visit us as much as possible tells me that you're not only my father, but a man of his word. That's something we should all strive to do..."
New life in unfamiliar territory was especially terrifying for the two siblings, especially Ryou who failed to pick up on the Japanese language, unlike his sister who found it to be transparent. The boy managed in school, albeit finding it a bit difficult to learn with the barrier between him and his tongue. It took time to adapt, with it being stunted due to abuse by peers who reveled in teasing him and making brazen attempts to make him appear to be a failure. The latter failed, but the bullying didn't stop. It eventually caused him to form a shell and recede inwards at the start of a mental assault, all while his sister could do nothing but be shocked and gawk in terror, unable to force them away from her brother who inspired her in the earlier years.
Six years down the road, on one fateful day, it happened while shopping for food since their mother couldn't exactly do much with her job in place. On the way back to his lodgings, Ryou was made an easy meal for a Youkai who dragged him to the other world when no one was looking. Flailing and failing to dislodge himself, he was certain that his life was about to be taken. As he struggled, he thought back on the past few years living in Japan - would anyone really miss their target for harassment? Even so, he sloughed off those thoughts, as more important matters deviated the lesser inconveniences from his head and kept fighting.
Ryou lost the battle, but won the war. Chasers luckily came across the boy on one of their missions and rescued him from the ravenous Youkai before he was slaughtered like mere lamb. Eventually, he came to knew about the two worlds, and plenty of secrets hidden within. There was potential seen within the young boy and he was made a Chaser. While learning the ropes, he was frightened of this new realm and sought to hide himself as a way of segregating his two lives, and keeping his family safe if someone ever got any wise ideas. Taking on the name of Atlas, he began to grow, holding it out on his own with other trainees before being enabled to go on what he considered proper missions as fully fledged, but fresh Chasers.
Over the course of four years, there was a shift within him, and ever-growing soul. As he made a few friends, he grew aloof and a bit serious to the coming days, sometimes a bit irritated much to their surprise. Another change was marked as the hermit came out of his shell when he harbored a way to disclose himself for the masquerade of mysteries and enigmas that regular humans would never comprehend. Atlas was alive while Ryou remained dormant... though, even so, he never forgot his place and who he was. The two personalities always would bleed together a bit more after every mission.
Ryou and Atlas still have a long ways to go with the other Chasers, more to learn...
Ever since the divide, everything has shattered.
Powers:
=Gravity= The ability to manipulate space itself to a limited degree garners assets to this young man. While he cannot directly alter how heavy a magical weapon weights, or another persons gravity, he can directly control his own and where he gravitates towards. While it doesn't change his center of gravity, it can provide access to different ways to handle opponents. Standing on the side of the wall while sparring was always an interesting endeavor, or attempting to eat while on top of the ceiling is something interesting.
The best part about this is he can change the way an object weighs, but only if he is grabbing onto it. For example, lets say there's a huge battle axe that isn't treasure and heralds some difficulty to swing. When it does, you get all or nothing depending on the agility of an opponent. Give the battle axe to Ryou and he is hacking away like a mad man on crack. Of course, manipulating it to make it lighter isn't all he can do... Word of advice, don't get too close if you're holding something that isn't a weapon of the arcane.
His final power allows him to create an area which affects the gravity around his expandable baton. The area can decrease your weight, with the intended effect of making you feel like you're on the moon, or a more devastating effect which pins anyone who enters down, with the exception of Ryou (he can cancel it out, but it does have significant drawbacks). The area covered in height and width equals 20 m, but since the area is spherical, along with the center of gravity being at the baton, the maximum height is 12π m, with the width being 10 m from the center.
Weapons:
Destinare: While albeit clunky and certainly heavy to use, a steep price of using this treasure is outweighed by the reward. Taking the form of an eku with double ends allows for maximum slicing potential, but can be used for more than rending flesh. The dual ends blades can be temporarily released to make the eku appear like a scythe, all while stabbing and eviscerating for a short amount of time before reverting to its previous state. What it does negates all pain once an equitable amount of adrenaline is obtained. Once the user begins to level out, the full pain returns, but the cuts and bruises are much more regulated and not as severe as they usually would be. In a nutshell, make sure his body produces a great deal of epinephrine's, then use him as a meat shield or punching bag. Also, another note is that this doesn't nullify the wounds he has already received before activating this power.
It has taken a while, but currently Ryou can swing it at a fair speed; not to slow to the point where someone can easily evade it, but not as keen as lightning so he can't exactly go all ham with it like other simple, non-magical weapons.
Expandable Baton: This is mainly Ryou's backup weapon when it comes to battle; when extended, it is about 65 cm in length. Of course, it does have another use which gives him a vantage point against other people or creatures. When impaled into the ground, he can use it to control the gravity of a certain area (up to twenty meters in length; horizontally and vertically), which means if you step into its vicinity, you could either jump like a man or woman on the moon, or be pinned onto the ground. Of course, if he wants to cancel it out, he needs to physically grab the baton to disable it. Depending on the gravity, he may need to counter the field with his own to counter the forces pulling him down... which will waste his energy in the process.
Equipment:
Gas Mask: When becoming a chaser, Ryou started off as wanting to find a mask to hide behind to remain unrecognizable out of fear of being identified by any traversing Youkai*** who might target him or his family. He found this Gas Mask when window shopping at the cafe, and found it to be excellent for the impending missions. Over time, his confidence surged, and now keeps wearing it to remain an enigma and a wannabe edge lord. Of course, it still has its use outside of hiding his face - it protects his eyes when assaulted with myriads of magic, sandstorms, or just generally anything that would love to gouge those two orbs out.
Durable Hoodie: Due to injuries and suspicion, Ryou began to fortify the hoodie with yen and certain items he bought or "found" while on the job. Over time, it gave him decent protection against certain blows from assailants. However, he still attempts to stay agile, as getting battered still is going to hurt like hell.
Dress Shoes: While tacky, Ryou has modified them to be much more comfy and protective, allowing for some relaxation while on missions all while providing little amounts of defense.
Other:
Versatile at a closer vicinity, but shows weakness when faced against an enemy at range. Why he doesn't grab a gun is because he doesn't want to bother with maintaining one (and with the added reason that he can't hide it well, unlike his baton and eku) and he can't wield a bow because of an embarrassing facet - he has the inability shoot an arrow to save his life unless the target is two feet in front of him.
Ryou is basically two sides of the same coin - on the job, he is a somewhat rash, overconfident Chaser who doesn't display fear, while the real him isn't as boisterous... Ryou is much more stoic, reserved and fearful; Ryou bleeds between these two identities most of the time.
While his Japanese is getting better, Ryou may slip up at times and say something completely off topic that does not relate to whatever his original message was... and will pretend that he didn't mess up if he is currently as his Atlas persona.
Due to the weight of Destinare, Atlas has had to specialize himself and increase his muscle mass to make it easier for him to wield the weapon. While it helps while he is on the job, it also works out when some delinquent decides to try(but fail) and drag Ryou down with him into impending failure.
When on missions as a Chaser, Atlas equips contact lens since he can't wear his glasses behind a gas mask. While he does dislike using them, they're better than being nearsighted to say the least, plus it hides his identity better since it makes him look like he has heterochromia.
***This also extends to other Chasers as well; he does his best to avert displaying his true to most of them for the safety and well-being of his family; a healthy dose of paranoia never hurt Ryou/Atlas, no? Only certain people know who Ryou is; otherwise, he is just called Atlas.
"I'll say it slowly, so you can understand. Alexander. Blackstone. Rozheim. Call me "Alex" and I'll knock your teeth out." Name: Alexander Blackstone Rozheim
"Stupid epithet. They just stuck me with it." Title: Loose Cannon
"Put, 'overwhelmingly'." Gender: Male
"..." Age: 24
"I think there is something that does not make sense here, and that is me, talking to you." Height: 188 cm (6'2")
Weight: 71 kg (156 lb)
"Are you blind or somethin'?" Appearance: Usually can be found wearing a suit, a pair of black gloves, dark sunglasses, and a cigarette in his mouth. *
"Nobody is perfect." Personality: Alex has a complicated, conflicted personality. He has a quick and fearsome temper and a tendency to take out his wrath on whatever is around him, buildings or people. Sometimes, the smallest things can set him off. However, he recognizes his flaw, and he tries to not hurt those around him. (Buildings and objects, though, are fair game.) When he isn't in a fury, he is a surprisingly mellow, and laidback person. He is highly intelligent, although most mark him as an hot-headed idiot. He don't think before he acts, but neither does he act before he thinks, instead he thinks as he acts. He isn't precisely fearless, he just has learned to ignore it. Some call that courage, others call that stupid.
"And here is the part you skim, and come back to later when you need to know something." Short Bio: Alex was born to a mostly normal family, his father was a wealthy business man for America, his mother, Japanese. For the first part of his life, he seemed normal. But, when he was eight, some bullies were picking on his little brother. He got angry, and he ended up beating them so bad, they had to be sent to a hospital with several fractured bones. That was the first time his strength manifested. The rest of his life was shaped by it.
Growing up, his stubbornness, quick temper and dangerous strength isolated him from other children, and made him a target for bullies and punks. It didn't help that he wasn't completly Japanese. His parents were good people, but their jobs kept them away from home. Alex went to several different schools, and got kicked out of most of them, usually for getting into fights, and wreaking school property. He somehow eventualy got through high school, but he never went to collage. He made a living doing odd jobs, from bodyguard to babysitter. He had difficulty holding a job for the same reasons he changed schools so often, his quick temper and incredible strength. He slowly sank into a depression, and dispair. He picked fights with random people, and he got arrested more than once. Through this, he made a single friend who stood by him, time and time again. This friend was the polar opposite of Alex. He was a kind person, very studious, and a pacifist. He stayed out of trouble, and helped Alex out when he got into it.
The unlikly duo seemed inseparable, the Brain and the Brawn, they were called. But something came between them, something big. They had a heated argument about it, and Alex got angry. He didn't mean to, but his body just moved, and he punched his only friend. It was the first time he ever did. He was shocked, and he tried to apoligize. His freind said it was allright, but his expression was unreadable. Without another word, he got up and left. That was the last time they spoke. The next day, Alex found out that his friend had moved to another country. That was six years ago, he was eighteen.
How he got involved with the Chasers was another, simpler manner. Sometime after that, he was walking down the street under a full moon. He took a wrong turn, and ended up face-to-face with a living nightmare, under a bloody sky, hunched over the body of a girl. Its uglyness mad him angry, and he proceded to beat it to a messy pulp, in that process, some of his power awakened. Somehow, during the fight, he had ended up back in the real world. He looked for the girl, but he couldn't get back to that world. He gave up, and tried to go back to normal life, but the memory stayed with him. Eventualy, the Chaser organization tracked him down and explained about Youkai and the Crimson Sky. At first, he was skeptical, but there was no denying what he had seen. Reluctantly, he accepted their offer to join them, only because he needed the cash. Soon after, he found he could control his anger better, and he began to hold a stable day job...for a few weeks anyways. His outbursts were less and more controllable.
"I don't believe in holding back!"
Powers:
Superhuman Qualities: These are natural abilities he was born with. (Although, he views it as a curse) Normally, the brain restricts one's power, shutting down muscles in response to pain in order to prevent serious injury; he doesn't have this limitation, and is capable of using his full strength. His condition also translates to superhuman speed, reflexes and a resistance to pain. Although, the flip side is that using it, can tear his body apart. His body is always like that, its not something he can turn on and off, so he always has to be careful.
Indomitable Will: This is his Chaser power, it can be described as his will made manifest.
Using this creates force similar to an invisible armor around himself. It can be used to augment the his own physical attacks, projected ahead himself as pure force, or imbued into weapons to increase their effectiveness. Any attack enhanced by his power would hit immensely harder than it would normally without it. A heavy concentration (or coating) his power can be used to harden parts of his body, turning the area black, thus making his body denser and more formidable, and giving their attacks greater power, this also can be used on anything he is touching. It also can allow him to touch the incorpral, although imperfectly.
With this power, he can use his full strength without injuring himself. But every power has it's price. He only has so much of this, and once it is used up, there is backlash, like temporary paralysis and weakness. Then it takes some time until he can use it again.
Weapons: His fists and anything he can get his hands on.
Equipment: see above ^
Other: - He is constantly late to almost everything. - Frequently smashes stuff. - Has a standing grudge against doors. - Likes cats. Theme:
Personality: Isotta is a very aloof person, devoting herself fully to the church and the work that she does for it. This does not preclude her having friends, but they are of a secondary importance to her. Respects those who are not of the faith, though she tends to have some visible disdain for those who are not of the Church.
Short Bio: Born to an average family in Milan Italy, Isotta was raised as the eldest daughter of an upper class family, her father a businessman and her mother working as well. It fell to her to watch over her two siblings, which she did happily and as best she could while also distinguishing herself in school and making many friends. It was a peace that was not to last.
Her encounter with the Crimson Sky came during a family trip to Prague, the hub back in the Old World. She got lost and was separated from her family one night, during the course of which she was eventually dragged into the realm of the Crimson Sky. She managed to return but was....changed. Her personality had shifted somewhat, and her memories of what had actually happened were fuzzy.
The time after that, she entered into a funk, a lingering depression that seemed to go on as her entire worldview was shaken by what she had seen and experienced in the Crimson Sky. Therapists, psychologists, her parents did what they could to try and shake her out of it, so she would return to the daughter that she knew, but it was all for naught. In spite of their efforts, nothing seemed to work. This only changed when they were contacted by the Church, a Cardinal approaching them as a result of hearing of what had happened to Isotta, which many dismissed as crazy delusions. But he believed her. Let with no real choice, her parents agreed, and Isotta was taken into the custody of the Church.
In the custody of the Church she was taken to Rome. There she was trained, part of a special group that dealt particularly with the Crimson Sky, and the Youkai that entered the world which the Church had to deal with for the protection of the people. Her lethargy broke under the training and tutelage that was given to her, as she devoted herself to the job that she had been assigned. She rapidly advanced, becoming skilled at bringing to bear the holy power of the Lord as well as killing or otherwise dealing with the Youkai that threatened the world.
Eventually she graduated, a moment highlighted as she returned to Prague to hunt a Youkai terrorizing the citizens there. Afterwards she went on to full duty, hunting down demons and protecting the people of the world from the shadows. This eventually resulted in her being transferred to Japan, her experience with the Crimson Sky serving as a useful tool by which the Church could exert its influence over the supernatural. That is why she is here now, a liaison between the Church and the Hunters Association, to stop powerful Youkai, to protect civilians, and to deal with rogue Chaers should tat issue come up.
Powers: Sword Generation: A peculiar trait of hers, Isotta has the ability to create blessed swords from pages of the Bible
Blessings: Through the power given to her by the Church, Isotta has the ability to call down the Grace of God. This can be used for healing herself and others, to enhance her physical abilities, to buff magical resistance, and to create physical attacks which can be used against enemies.
Exorcism: with the proper equipment and enough time, Isotta can create a bounded field around an area which is actively hostile to the existence of demons and unholy Youkai, weakening them and making them much more difficult to deal with so long as they remain inside it
Weapons: Isotta tends to use the swords that she creates as her weapons. They are short swords, light, yet tough due to their blessing. They can be thrown or simply used as a melee weapon ,and she is very skilled in their usage.
Equipment: -Several vials of Holy Water -An ivory rosary from the Papacy in Rome -A vial of dirt from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem -A Pocket Bible
Appearance: Very petite and effeminate, unintimidating in both physical build and demeanor.
Personality: Seiko is very timid, as a result of his utterly small stature and particularly feminine build. He's quite withdrawn, having been bullied all his life as a freak and a loser. In turn, these negative, introverted aspects cause him to bottle up his anger, only ever letting it out when he finds himself truly, utterly humiliated, offended, or upset. When he does let loose his rage and frustration, it's quite a sight, like the world's smallest volcano erupting.
His shyness isn't just when dealing with other people, however. Even on his lonesome, he's typically indecisive, inarticulate, and generally a bit of a stammering child. Almost any amount of pressure being put on him is 'too much', and he's entirely unused to the attentions of others in a positive way. Were he to be complimented, genuinely complimented, he might even faint.
Short Bio: As an 'orphan', raised by his uncle when his parents 'disappeared'... Seiko has never had friends. He was always to effeminate for boys to like him, and always to pathetic for girls to like him. He was, in every way, a loner. The only exception was his beloved uncle, who loved him unconditionally, showering him with affection. It was his uncle who encouraged his passions for music and art, and his uncle who cared for him when he came home, bruised and beaten by the local bullies.
He didn't have a particularly happy life, all things considered, but it wasn't utterly terrible. He had a family member who loved him, and he had his passions, and that was enough. He still has those things, but recently, he's started longing for more, to be more... And one day, he was given the chance, when on his way home, he was accosted by the same local gang of bullies. As they closed in on him, he shut his eyes, moving his hands over his face to protect it from bruising... When he heard sounds of a struggle, and then screaming, and then people fleeing. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself surrounded by strange, amalgamated masses of crystal, their hand-appendages coated in the blood of his tormentors. And that was the day his life started getting better, for good.
Powers: Crystalline Constructs: He is capable of animating beings from nothingness, in the form of either humanoid or quadrupedal beasts that appear to be made of thick glass, or some variety of crystal. They have very limited autonomy and are capable of taking simple orders.
Weapons: None, he's absolutely terrible in physical combat.
Equipment: Dress of the Ancients: A very feminine, frilly lolita dress that Seiko received as a 'gift' from his uncle. When worn, it provides the wearer with invulnerability to brute-force harm. Suffocation is still a threat... Which for many is a problem, considering it is impossible to modify, and fitted for an eight-year-old girl. This is not, however, a problem for Seiko. How and why it came into his family's possession is an utter mystery to him.
Personality: Lilis is a natural flirt. She'll call people 'hun' or 'hot stuff' even if she barely knows them. Nothings wrong with a compliment, even if she's complimenting the enemy. Compliments tend to make others feel good about themselves, so whats wrong with that? A bad thing about this though is that people generally read too deep into her flirtatious ways, and often get disappointed when they find out she's not trying to lure them into her bed. As long as theres no touchy touchy, there will be no smacky smacky.
Now Lin has a lack of patience. It can be seen as a negative trait in many aspects. But when it comes down to it, Lilis doesn't like to wait or be waiting on other people. She has this weird thing with regret. The 'I wish I did this when I had a chance' is almost like a pet peeve of hers. She doesn't want to have thoughts like that, and it pushed her to being impulsive or spontaneous if you want to call it; so obviously she would come to develop impatience with that mindset. She'll burst into meetings or disrupt your heart to heart, it doesn't matter to her when you've kept her waiting long enough. She actually admires people who have patience, this is probably why she likes hippies. Because aww heyy maaan, every things all cool with them.
When Lilis sets her eyes on something she will become determined to get it. Whether learning a new trick or technique or to simply gain something from someone. It would take some rather large emotional strain to kill her determination inside. This determination inside of her will push her forwards to stand up for herself or for another. Sometimes her action displayed while being determined are described as 'Bold'. Lin has learned that she can achieve great things through her determination. With that she still clings onto this determination to overcome obstacles and challenges.
Short Bio: It's not really known where it is she came from, but all is known is that her parents were killed, that's the only thing she's ever talked about her history, she sort of just popped up on the map of chasers and since then it's been up in the air about who she is. It was found that Lilis isn't her real name, nor is that her real last name, any record of her true name and birth were completely scorched, burned out of existence, presumably by her. When approached about it she just dodges the question. Infact any question about her past she doesn't really answer, so anything about her prior to appearing, is unknown. In truth, it was thought at one point that she may have been responsible for the death of her parents and destroying her identity to get away from that situation. Whatever the case, Lilis is a bit of a mysterious person, but it seems like it all has a purpose, as if she is running from someone or something.
Powers: Much like how the name says, Shadow Mimicry for the user allows the user to harness Shadow like forms, becoming a shadow themselves or "Mimicking" the form. Inheriting all of the Ravencroft power, being the last of her blood line, Lin has access to both her Highest Shadow Form, and Lowest, both being strong, but lowest is used for more practicality and combat. Her in her Lowest Form, her body is shaded with blackness, her eyes turn from her teal and red irises to pure white circles. Her body retains a humanoid form but a cloak like shadow grasps her body and makes her appear legless and a single slender body. Besides her change in appearance, in her lowest form, she is able to disappear into the darkness around her, travel on the ground as a shadow would, she retains her speech and able to talk to people around her, but it becomes more of a whisper, even when she yells. She is also able to revert between her physical body and her shadow body, meaning she is able to use her shadow body partially while still in physical form, forming lance like shadow weapons, or shields. Granted while she can do this, she is unable to use her strongest form.
In her Highest Shadow Form, her powers are amplified exponentially, BUT she is stuck in that form for the remainder of the use of her power, she is unable to use her lowest form at all until the sunrise of the next day appears. If she uses her highest form, she retains all of her lowest form abilities, but there is a catch. She is unable to communicate to people around her, nor can she touch living organisms. However, she is able to teleport from shadow to shadow within a 50 meter radius. She also can not directly attack, this form is purely for travel, use in combat is almost useless.
*Note that the shadows are about as strong and refined steel in weapon form, when her body is engulfed by the shadows, it acts as an armor, almost as strong as Bullet Proof Kevlar, however blunt attacks and force will still break her body as if it was simply just normal.
Weapons: "Little Shadow": Little shadow is the knife shown in the picture that she is wielding, it's not simple knife, it is an actual manifestation of her power, typically it's form is a ring when not being used, but it allows her to use her power when not in full form. The knife is the most standard form she likes to use it in, as she has the most experience using it in that form.
Equipment: She has a single ring that is impossible for her to get rid of, it's her mothers and for whatever reason, it always appears on her middle finger of her left hand and will always come back to her finger, no matter what she does to get away from it.
