If you do take off the limb, the character might die. If you do not take off the limb, the character will die.

But that decision is up to the players involved.

@FantasyChic Understandable, everyone needs sleep. Just make sure to watch the counters so you know where you are at. Takes just a second to request an extension if things get hectic. (Everyone has times where things get busy, all that is asked is you keep people informed in a reasonable manner so others aren't holding and running their counters up)
