”it’s a thin line ‘tween heaven and here”

There was a distinct voice in DeShawn’s head screaming at him that he shouldn’t be at this party. As he stood by the drinks table, taking a sip from the first beer to touch his lips in god knows how long, he looked around at his beautiful peers. This was their world and he was just existing in it for the time being until he graduated. Tyra Washington was a bit of a babe, she was fun and she was staring, albeit subtly. Dee didn’t mind and smiled to himself as he watched her leave to join a group that had amassed across the way. ”Another time, girl”

Columbus was not Baltimore. Parties there were terribly different. It wasn’t about who hooked up with who or who was hitting the blunts a little bit too hard. It was more about what corner X-Boy got shot up on and celebrating what would’ve been his sixteenth birthday. It was about someone’s long forgotten brother getting out of the joint and people feigning remembrance by throwing them a welcome back party. This shit that was going on before him was definitely more tame in comparison.

Dee’s mind took him back to the mean streets of West Baltimore for a moment as he reflected on the fact that most of the boys in his old crew would likely be dead before they even got to graduate. The kids that partied around him, some of them he had managed to become friends with in the short time of his being there but he stood envious of them. They had no idea how easy life had been for them up until that point. He knew these weren’t rich kids in the slightest, Rosefell was known as an island for the misfits but none of those misfits had even the slightest notion of life on the killing streets, where every new step meant breaking the back of dead soldiers.

As a thread of anxiety began to rise up from his stomach, the full ball back for Rosefell High swiftly scanned the party for any kind of welcome distraction. When he wasn’t training or playing, DeShawn had a lot of shit in his head that he didn’t let out. Through flickering embers and flame, the big man saw a wisp of familiar blonde hair; Melissa Elliott. She had essentially been his welcoming committee when he arrived at Rosefell. It didn’t take long for her to sink her claws into him either, not that he resisted, shorty was fine as hell. Problem was there was just way too much drama with her, shame because beneath the glamor, she wasn’t half bad.

Moving towards the Queen of Thorns, DeShawn looked up at her makeshift throne with a smile. ”It’s a thin line ‘tween heaven and here, so what’s an angel like you doing up there all alone when you can be down here with me?”

”...a quiet soul…”

”MAKE IT, D. MAKE IT!!”

The pain in his chest was strong as it tried to force what little breath he had left in his lungs out of his body. With a slam of his body against the makeshift pine wall, DeShawn slumped to his knees and watched the sweat drip from his head and bare torso onto the floor. Behind his Uncle Denzel’s house was a disused industrial complex and Dee had took the time to mould the debris and the vast urban decay into his own personal gym. As much as he enjoyed his team practices on the football field, the solitude of what was once Jolly Textiles was just too much to ignore.

It was all about stamina tonight. Suicide drives, got to love them. The part of the wasteland he had claimed as his new personal gym was just off the beaten path, close enough to the house for him to see it but far away enough so that he wouldn’t be disturbed. Dee’s workout regimen was extreme to say the least but he was built for it, not many other people were, that was one of the reasons he preferred to do it alone, no one else could keep up. He was happy with his progress physically. Now all he had to do was sort out the rest of his life, that was different fight entirely. As the sweat pooled beneath him, DeShawn let out a satisfied gasp of air. Barely a ripple in the vast ocean before him. They were stardust lost in space and he was only a fragment….shit all Dee knew was that he didn’t want to go back to West Baltimore.

The first week of his last year of high school was nothing short of boring. As was his usual style, Dee had kept himself to himself and was not at all interested in getting involved in the drama of Rosefell High. A quiet soul; he was there to play football, get recruited and make something of himself and he would do that even if it killed him. Dee had found a home with the Rosefell Knights, though transferring in late in the football season last year meant he couldn’t help them get to State. That said, it was a brand new year and he was now there right from the start. The Knights were going all the way with him in the team, he would make them shine and in turn, they would help him get a scholarship, that was really his only option to get out of this thing alive.

Once but an ounce of his great strength had returned, DeShawn pulled himself to his feet and began to drag his heavy form back towards his uncle's house. Entering through the back door, he kept quiet as he made his way through the house and up to the bathroom to clean the stench of sweat and garbage from his body. The piping hot water of the powerful shower made a lot of headway in soothing his aching muscles. After cleaning himself up, DeShawn changed into his party clothes. All summer, Dee had followed a strict code of conduct; if he trained as hard as he possibly could all week, he’d allow himself the weekend to let loose and relax. Normally this would mean a few video games at a fellow Knights or perhaps a rough and tumble with one of the fine females of Rosefell but tonight it meant going and getting shitfaced by a lake...there were worse ways to chill.

Making his way back down the stairs, he glanced over to the dining room where his uncle had fallen asleep on the table, a common occurrence. Uncle Denzel didn’t sleep a lot, a habit left over from his time in the army. He felt more comfortable sleeping on the floor or some other hard surface rather than his own bed. A small smile crept across Dee’s face as he watched a small string of drool fall from Denzel’s mouth and onto the history paper of a middle schooler. DeShawn pressed two fingers to his lips and then pointed them towards his guardian.

”Love you Unc”

As the synthwave permeated around his old Jeep Wrangler through his recently installed surround sound speakers, Dee took a few minutes to compose himself. He certainly wasn’t the worse in a social situation such as this but he he most definitely wasn’t the best. Large groups sometimes tended to give him anxiety. At least on the gridiron all he had to do was listen. He pulled up to the lake and parked the jeep just off the beaten path. He didn’t mind leaving his car this far out so he could have a drink, he’d just pick it up the next day. Walking up the party, his massive frame could’ve blocked out the bonfire that had amassed if he had so desired. He moved over to the drinks table and picked up a tasty tasty beverage, part of him was hoping that he could just blend in to the dark and just enjoy his evening but he knew that being six foot two and two hundred plus pounds of chocolate football player, that would not happen. It was just a question of who got to him first;

Friend or Fan?

I heard a rumour...

As the girls began their whirlwind adventure, Jess followed side by side with Riley, staying visible in the frame of the lense. Glitching, that’s what the Hulkstan called it….she kind of liked that. ”The glitching that just kind of happens, whenever and wherever it wants to really. Don’t ask me why, all I know is this banging bod is pretty unstable apparently” Jessica slid her gloves up slightly to tighten them around her wrists, the last thing she needed was to accidentally jump into the body of her new gal pal, that would be a hell of an awkward conversation.

Riley was questioning her about her abilities; she imagined that this was a conversation that would be frequent during the early days of Mobius. As you spend more and more time with your classmates, it would only make sense to try and figure out how their powers or abilities could work in conjunction with yours; after all, this entire school was essentially the front for a competition to see who was going to be the universes next great superhero or at least that’s how Jess felt about the whole thing. Luckily for her, she knew that she was built more as a support player, so having to fight off potential rivals was a non issue for her. For the rock and roll queen the goal was simple, find someone worthy enough that she was willing to team with and push them to being the greatest superhero of all time. Easier said than done of course.

”Meh” The tattooed temptress began ”Ain’t nothing too painful or taboo for me to talk about, you hear that squad? I’m an open kind of girl” She winked into Riley’s camera for her followers before carrying on ”My fantastical origins are fairly basic. I’m an inhuman, got myself accidentally exposed to some terrigen mists and now I can walk through walls, become invisible and possess your body. Oh and the glitchy thing we were just talking about, that too. You almost died? You are telling me that story sweetheart, that’s badass”

As the girls mosied deeper into the towering monstrosity of the city in the sky, they reached a building which Riley ushered for them to enter ”The D stands for Do Enter? There’s a joke in there which I’m not not gonna touch” the pair entered the building and followed a long corridor down to a set of double doors which swung open to reveal the extremely heavy flirtation of Godly proportions.

”I dig it.”

Mid Cheetoh in mouth, Theo froze as a dazzling light burst through the door behind him. Instinct took over as she sidestepped out of the way and watched the ball of sparkles slam into a table. This superhero thing was getting weirder and weirder by the minute. The light soon faded to reveal a beautiful blonde girl who miraculously looked unharmed from le grand entrance she had just made.

Right on cue from behind an open door, Normie’s toothless face popped up, followed soon by his body, capped off my repeated hip thrusts.”Hubba hubba” The Goblin Childe mocked. For a dead 11 year old that was simply a manifestation of Theo’s growing psychothapy Normie has one hell of a libido.

The sick little fuck.

Theo blinked the tiny bastard out of existence for a minute and quickly scanned the room at the other students. They seemed slightly baffled and taken aback by the newly introduced Janet Lucasta. Clearly they had never been to a party in New York, this was a fairly tame entrance all things considered. The name Lucasta seemed familiar, he seemed to remember meeting a Lucasta at one of the Osborne family functions, the face slipped his mind but that wasn’t important in that moment anyway.

Deciding that he would be the first to break the silence, Theo finished the Cheetoh that remained clasped between his fingertips and brushed the dust off onto his jeans before taking a step forward towards the newcomer. ”Welcome to superhero high, Janet. I’m Theo, it’s a pleasure” He offered out his hand to the blonde for a shake. ”That entrance, I have to say was pretty fucking shway”

”Dude, McDungus. Ask her if she wants a Cheetoh. Chicks love that shit”

Interacting with Riley@Fabricant451

”Nice to meet you, Riley. They call me Jess”

Bombarded with several questions at once, Jessica grinned at the overflowing enthusiasm that was leaking from the smaller girl. The rock chick moved her face closer to Riley’s phone and bit her plump bottom lip seductively. ”If you nerds want to see what I got, you’re gonna have take this girl from thousands to hundreds of thousands. Make it happen and I’ll make it happen, can you dig it my loves?” She winked to the many subscribers before returning to her full height. She offered her silk gloved hand forward for a handshake but pulled it back sharply when her quantum field began to displace. ”Sorry. I don’t have a full handle on this thing yet”

Jess was not any kind of scientist, inventor and really she wasn’t even that clever. After undergoing terrigenesis and becoming an inhuman, she knew that she would have to brush up on her smarts if she ever truly wanted to understand what happened to her in that cave deep in the rockies. The bare minimum she understands and even then that’s a stretch, is that her body no longer exists fully on the normal plain of existence. Apparently her cells a constantly displacing between our world and the quantum realm, leaving her literally torn between two worlds. If that wasn’t the premise for a rock song, it should be. It was only thanks to a connection her father made Berkeley University that Jess had any insight at all into what her powers actually were.

”You’d think a place this big would have a map or something. What do you say, Hulkstan, wanna go on an adventure with me and find where we’re actually supposed to be?”

The holy grail had been found….a tuna sandwich!!!

Theo sat on the walls edge, stuffing his face as he watched the Goblin Childe jam to the guitar solo playing in his ears. The quiet he was feeling inside would only last for a short time, he knew this but it was a small slice of serenity and he was going to make the most of it while the little bastard was quiet and enjoying himself elsewhere.

Mobius was an amazing sight to behold; especially now as the student body has begun to leave the confines of the assembly and their dorms respectively. The school grounds were starting to fill up with beings made of pure light, , mutants, inhumans, cockroach men and he was pretty sure he bore witness to a talking dinosaur in a lucha mask at one point. This was going to be a long strange trip but he was down for it, so was the Childe to an extent. This whole trek was about Theo learning to accept the Childe, to harness him and use him to become the most heroic Green Goblin that ever existed…or he could say fuck it and use what he learns to become a pro wrestler, either way it was a win.

As the song switched over The Big Tuna jumped down from his high wall perch, sandwich hanging from his mouth. The fall from the height of said wall would normally break a persons legs, Theo landed with all the grace of a pig in shit but he didn’t feel an ounce of pain, joy to the Goblin serum. He had some exploring but the need to be around others was causing an itch and you just gotta scratch an itch when it happens. Theo decided to head back towards 1A, he had little doubt that Ziggy would probably still be there and by this point others in their dorm must surely had arrived.

Stopping by a vending machine on the way, Theo grabbed some flaming hot Cheetos and a Hershey’s bar, boy had to eat. Sauntering up towards the 1A building, he entered with his collection of snacks and made his way to the common room. Ziggy was there with a handful of others and he waved, food in both hands.

”Sup all”

Being late was a way of life, not a choice.

Jess never had any intention of further education once she had finally graduated from high school in Winnipeg. The plan was to make a couple of indie documentaries, get them into some film festivals and then success would make the big wide world her oyster. However a cave dive, a few terrigen crystals and her trillions of quantum displaced atoms changed that plan!

Forgetfulness was a trait that she had apparently inherited from her late mother Patty. Jessica’s father had reminded her a thousand times that she had to be at a certain place by a certain time to get the shuttle for Mobius. Well she done did fucked that one up the poor girl. Luckily for her, she wasn’t the only one that was late. In the few months since she had activated her inhumanity, Jess had met a handful of other inhumans in the area thanks to her father's connections; one of whom was Thad Richardson, the all American jock type...in Canada, with the ability to fly. He was a lovely kid, little bit dim but nice enough and he was going to be joining Mobius too. Thad had also missed the transport by seconds so Jess decided to take a little initiative. She jumped into his body and took full control, pursuing the shuttle. Thanks to Jess’ power bi-product of supercharging, Thad shot off like a rocket at close to mach speeds, a shame she didn’t know how to stick the landing. Sorry Thad, you’re gonna be sore in the morning.

Emerging from her current host, Jessica swiftly placed her gloves back on and tapped the disoriented jock on the cheek like the golden retriever he was. ”Thanks for the ride handsome, I owe you one!”. Jess hadn’t been an inhuman long but she already knew how to use her gifts to her advantage. She sprinted off down the campus, going as fast as her legs would take her, having literally no idea where on Earth she was supposed to be going. Thad began ”...so then we were in the pool and she started taking her shirt off and...” he stopped suddenly. Wait this wasn’t the bus stop. This isn't even Winnipeg. What the hell happened? He brought his gaze upwards at the monstrosity of the future, Mobius. ”...woah”

Jessie stood out wherever she was, it was just a fact. She was gorgeous, she knew that and she dressed a little outlandish, maybe not now compared to potential alien classmates with three heads and four boobs but running around in vintage fashion was her jam. Today’s ensemble was simple, leather pants and a Fozzy vest with her faithful gloves to avoid physical contact and accidental body hopping; Scott Bakula never had that problem on Quantum Leap, it’s just not fair. On this fine morn her long flowing hair was dark, though she’d probably dye it again in a week, it was a thing.

Luckily for Jess, she had a friend in the assembly who had text her that she was to be in group 1-D with Ant Man as her mentor. Not her first choice but fuck it, beggars cannot be choosers. Knowing the assembly was finished, she decided that going straight to the dorms would be the best plan. She sprinted passed a delicious looking guy talking to himself and eating a sandwich. She noted that the building may have been a cafeteria, good to know. Accidently passing through a few walls as she gawked at the boy, Jess soon found herself on candid camera as she came face to lense with a short girl wielding the deadliest weapon on Earth, a cell phone.

”Oh hey. You’re a pretty little thing! Can you tell me where, 1-D is?”

Cheeky second character for moi:

@Stern Algorithm

”Well that was badass”

”I agree” Theo attempted to fist bump the figment of his imagination as they stood in awe of Ziggy’s abilities. It made sense now why the two may have been put together, with both of their gifts having something to do with sound.

In the spirit of sharing, the former baseball star moved over to his bags and grabbed one of the smaller ones, taking it over to the bedside table. ”That’s a sweet toy, here are mine” He unzipped the bad and emptied it’s contents into the table; tiny, marble sized jack o lanterns. ”These are all, essentially miniature explosives. All on a timer, expandable and I have a decent range with them especially if I hit them with my bat over there” he motioned to the baseball bat against the wall. ”They have different functions, concussive, incendiary, electro shock to name a few. I’ve been working on a sonic one, trying to harness my laugh but...sorry this is a lot...erm...but yeah, I tinker with this stuff, it’s kinda just intuitive. I’m actually quite dumb”

”Damn right you are” Normie began walking out of the open door. ”Bored now, gonna go fuck with shit. See you in the shower, hot roommate” Giggling like the school boy he was, the last son of the house Osborn ran from out of the dormitory and disappeared from view.

Theo cocked an eyebrow, Normie was even more of a pain dead than he was alive. It seemed like the dead just couldn’t leave him alone. ”It’s gonna be great getting to know you, Ziggy. We’re gonna have fun together” The absence of a voice in his head was always very brief but in those few minutes, Theo felt like himself again, he felt like the Big Tuna, like McDungus, he had many names but the one he felt like the most was his own. He felt like Theo Blanchard.

Wanting to make the most of the clarity, Theo awkwardly crossed his arms across his chest in an attempt at the Wakandan national salute and did a stupidly deep bow. ”I’m sorry, this really ain’t my thing but I’m gonna go, you know, explore, see what mischief can be made. I’ll let you get comfy without, you know, me...lurking….God I’m hungry...sorry...yeah catch you in a bit roomie” Swiftly, the New Yorker made his escape from the room, kicking one of his own bags and stubbing his toe as he did, like the absolute tit that he was.

In search of food, Theo placed his headphones back onto his head in time for the start of the next song on his playlist. The 80’s were his jam and he'd be damned if anyone told him it sucked. With the weight of the Goblin Childe off of his shoulders for a moment, he danced down the corridor and out into the world of Mobius, interested to see what else it had to offer.
