It was -3 F when I left, this morning. The winds were breezy. I can only assume that, because I didn't freeze on the return trip, the sun improved things.

Bio

I'm a generally chill gremlin that can be kinda particular. I grew up with plenty of electronics and video games, mostly with games like Final Fantasy, Zelda, and StarCraft. I like to blend magic and technology in my writing, bringing fantasy into space and sci-fi.

“That sounds like an excellent time. I’ll have to stop by.” Having some drinks from a foreign culture sounded exciting, perhaps she could coax Miyuki into joining her. Later. That would have to happen later, there was no way she’d agree to anything right now. Certainly, it might be a way of getting the two of them to get along? Hopefully, Miyuki could be agreeable to their neighbors. At least agreeable.

“Aah. There he goes.” Yumeiko watched Qyamu walk off, her tails flicking. Both she and Miyuki should eat before hunting. Especially Miyuki. “Mm, I should have greeted him. Ah well, next time.” She giggled softly to herself as Velvet declared their game ongoing, clearly disatissfied with his forfeit. One of the shrine maidens had a device like the one Velvet wielded. It could show and capture images, and play sounds. A powerful device.

Her eyes turned back to Miyuki as Velvet addressed her again. Right, time to soothe her lover. “I hope you have better luck with the rest of your evening, Vel-.”

She didn’t need fox hearing to catch that shriek or find where it was coming from. Man, this guy’s reflexes were bad. Even human, Yumeiko was able to jump up and take a swipe at the gremlin as it dropped from above. She did, however, miss. The little cretin slammed on the tray and sent their food flying.

Damn! Maybe if she hadn’t been transformed. Ooh, now Miyuki was going to be- yes, furious. Yumeiko sighed, looking mournfully at the troll, “you’re not a quick creature, are you?” Precise, perhaps, and capable of diligent movements, but quick? No. And now Miyuki was sounding quite dangerous ”It seems that little incident has run us out of time. Go.”

Yumeiko let out one of her tails and her ears, knowing Miyuki would likely prefer to see those, and quickly moved to sit herself in Miyuki’s lap before she could rise very far. She spared Velvet an apologetic glance, figuring her presence would probably intensify, but hopefully just a little..?

Back to Miyuki, “you will do no such thing. It was your own decision not to eat lunch, now don’t let that turn you into a brute.” She leaned into Miyuki and spoke into her ear, “didnt you hear? If we catch the most of them unharmed, we can get one item, whatever we want. Even..” she leaned in further and whispered, that.”

She leaned back and placed a hand on Miyuki's clavicle as she sat up, "but we can't harm them, only capture them."

A cool glass of iced tea with lemon occupied the captain’s right hand while a pretzel occupied her left as she made her way through the crowds of gathered people. A pretzel was a good way to take the measure of a baker. If they couldn’t make a good pretzel, then anything using proper dough would probably be difficult. She took a bite and hummed with satisfaction. It was warm and soft and well prepared. A fine pretzel, fitting for an event hosted by the crown. The presence of the townsfolk changed the atmosphere, it brought things down from the fine etiquette and high horses of the upper class and put things in a place she felt much more comfortable with. She could think of a person or two that might disagree with the sloppy manners, and she certainly wouldn’t want to get anything on her nice uniform, herself. A servant would take care of it for her if she did, she knew, but she rather liked looking sharp like she did. A stain simply wouldn’t do. It was good the pretzel didn’t really need any cheese, though she did have some, skillfully held by her pinky and ring finger, underneath her cup of drink.

A girl ran past her, and when Stratya looked to see where she’d come from, she saw the Prrincess, joined by another. She approached the pair - no, trio. There was Duke Lorenzo - with a bite or two missing from the pretzel in her hand. ”Somethin’ abou’ a baked good y’ dinnae ‘ave tae make yerrself is so sa’isfyin’.” The Princess, Duke Lorenzo, and.. Count Fritz, one of the visiting Varian nobles. He’d been at the table with Princess Anastasia at Lord Drake’s party, that’s right. ”In a cer’ain way, t’is all rremin’s me of a village festival. T’ way folks’re millin’ abou’, ‘avin’ a cha’ an’ eattin’, too. Verry cozy an’ welcomin’.”

”Plen’y o’ pe’forrmances lined up with t' Prrincess at the end, aye. A falconry display tae lead us off, too, that’s excitin’! A huntin’ birrd. Hmm,” something about that greatly appealed to her. The combination of cute and also fierce predator would always get her. ”I cannae wai’ tae ‘ear either o’ yer perrformances, Prrincess, Duke. If yerr poetrry’s as good as yerr jokes, Duke Lorrenzo, I look forrward tae yerr turn on t’ stage, as well.” Week–old Royal Curd cheesey feet.

She turned to Count Fritz, then, smiling, "Coun' Frritz, good tae see ye again. I'm glad tae 'ave the chance tae mee' ye again under.. more contrrolled cirrcumstances."

A farmer, indeed. Came with seeds all ready to be planted, even. She was awfully quick to offer them up to the bird, even if it was just a few. Well, she must have plenty more, then, right? That aughta be fine, then. ”Ooh, I don’t think you’ll have too much trouble wrangling up a hand or two to help you out. I’d love to get a few plants going, myself.”

She approached with the little bird and inspected the seeds as it ate them up, the cute little fluff. She pushed that one single feather on its head around a bit, ”I hope it lays eggs, how big do you think they are? I dunno if we’ll need to find a boy or girl friend for it, or how fast their grow, either. There’s a few of us, so we’ll probably want more, whatever the case.”

She pat the bird’s head, ”was that wheat? Hm.. we’d need a mill, wouldn’t we?” She looked up and around before her eyes landed on the building nearby. ”That would be convenient.. In case that building isn’t the mill we need, did you bring any other seeds, deary?” Niara gave the bird a scritch or two before she started to head toward the shack. Whether they had other seeds or not, they had wheat. That would mean bread and baked goods.

”Whatever it is, it’s not in great shape.” Whether calling back over her shoulder or speaking to a Yingmei that came with her, Niara noted to herself, “not that I expected much else, honestly.”
Yeah, I'll post a thing.
Couple o' foxes, huntin' down some gremlins. We've got this. :D
Shoulda had lunch, ey, Miyuki?
Let's not cause problems for Velvet at work, now.

*starts to slowly cover Miyuki with sealing paper*
Ooh. Get plenty of rest and nutrition.

”If we can find the seeds of a suitable plant, that would be good, too. I'm especially skilled with seeds.”

The trek past the limits of the hamlet had been uneventful. After the path had disappeared visually, Niara used her magic to hear the earth and help lead them, but that only go them so far. After a point, they had to go by instinct. Eventually, however, they did come to a clearing. Things were mostly flat, a feature Niara was fairly familiar with. There weren’t a ton of hills on the islands, though there were some mountains on some of the larger ones. They were old mountains, worn by ages and ages of wind and rain, without any tectonic activity to give new edges. Not that Niara knew what a tectonic plate was. Maybe she’d heard something of it in her earth magic studies, but that would have been it.

The Root Elf had just been examining the new grounds they’d found, taking stock of what the earth had to say, when Yingmei said she’d seen something. “Something moved?” She shared a glance with Mei before the other decided she would go forth to investigate, even by herself. Nooo, no no. Bad idea. ”I’ll be right behind you, sweetie.” She made sure her sword and shield would be ready to grab, should she need it, and followed behind the farmer girl.

Her heart was thumping and her adrenaline beginning to spike before she finally got to see what it was that had spooked the both of them. Some small, white, feathered thing, muddling about and pecking for some food. ”Huh…” It didn’t seem aggressive, and seemed interested in Mei as she called to it. ”Hey, there, fella.” Niara stepped slowly from the tall grass she’d been hiding in and knelt down, making soft clicking and cooing nose to the creature. It looked at her for a moment before waddling up to her and looking at her expectantly. She chuckled softly and pet the thing, ”oooh, how’s a thing like you surviving out here, hm? Nothing out here to eat you, huh?” She took a look around, before looking at Yingmei, ”Sweet little thing. Probably descended from whatever animals used to be kept here.”

She stood and pointed to the field they’d just stepped away from, investigating the bird, ”this was probably a farm field. The ground seems like it had been worked, once. It’s fertile, at any rate.” She looked at the bird, then, rubbing her face a bit in thought, ”what do you eat, then. Bugs? Plants? Not picky?”

The initial relief had already worn off by the time the announcement had ended, but Velvet decided to elaborate. The golden spirit fox nodded, smiling openly, ”I’m glad. It wouldn’t be good for us, as neighbors, would it? A few of her tails flicked gently behind her, under the level of the table top where they wouldn’t bump anything or shed on anything. Another reason to brush their tails regularly. Miyuki could be careless.

”Yumeiko no Akame no Kami, Yumeiko will be fine. You work at a bar called the Alibi? You don’t often need one, do you?” Puns always were big, back home. ”Think I’ll pass on the blood. Alcohol, though.” Yumeiko gave a grin, a thought crossing her mind. Yes, alcohol. Aah, but how to go about it? She’d have to consider that.

Tall, Dark and.. Sexy. Yumeiko gave the other fox a slow glance before turning back to Velvet. The barest blush betrayed her. Judging by her mood, it was perhaps best to be flattering. The spirit fox cleared her voice subtly as she gave a particular look to Velvet, trying to convey the hint of placation with her eyes and not her voice, ”Her Augustness Miyuki no Suzuyami is not used to interacting with those not of an imperial bearing directly. This change is an ongoing adjustment for her. I do hope we can put the regrettable incident this morning behind us.”

She turned her head to hear Miyuki, nodding softly, ”it can’t be easy, cooking under these conditions. Hopefully, things can go better for him, at least. Messing with our food is too much, we’ll have to-” without harming them, huh? “mnnn.. be sure to catch plenty of them quickly and end their mischief.” She had to wonder if such vengeance would satisfy Miyuki.

”We should probably eat, before hunting, if that’s how they want us to play..”
