”Mr. Dawson, why don't you have a seat?” He said, gesturing to the brown leather chair he had his hand resting on.

The men behind Adel stepped forward. They each placed a firm hand around his upper arms, half-guiding, half-dragging Adel to the seat. If Adel struggled in any way, their plan would have been quickly subduing him with a blow to the cheek - but besides tensing up, the man didn’t fight.

They shoved Adel into the seat, twisting it so it faced the mirror. Vincent still had that smirk on his face as he picked up a bowl of shaving cream and an applicator brush on the counter.

Slowly, methodically, Vincent applied shaving cream to Adel's face while speaking.

”Now, my men tell me that you and your spies have decided to make it your home in White Pine. Not that I care too much about that.”

He set down the bowl, picking out a barber's blade instead. He opened it, the fresh gleam of a clean, sharp blade within.

“What I really care about, though, is who set you up to do this.”

The blade pressed against Adel's neck as Vincent leaned over, staring at the man through the mirror.

”So, what'll it be, Canary? You gonna sing?”

Nocturnal Memoirs (2024)

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Outskirts of Odenfield

Ryllae wore a serene, delicate smile as she watched Anton and his companions approach. She raised a single hand in a wave, carefully holding the basket in the crook of her other arm. As Anton approached, she and Gervese gave polite bows.

”So good of you to make it, my Lord.” Ryllae said politely, looking up at him on his steed. ”And what a fine horse you have.”

They waited like that, time passing easily with simple, pleasant chatter until an entire hour had transpired since Ryllae had first arrived. She looked up at the sky, noting how far the sun had traveled, and said to Anton, ”My Lord, why don't we have lunch while we wait?”

Yes, it was a bit impolite to eat before their guest would show up. But at this rate, their guest was very late. This would have been very strange, as she had entered the letter continued on its way after she had intercepted it. It would have reached its intended address eventually.

Regardless, Ryllae guided the group to a space beside the road that was level and covered in grass, allowing a comfortable spot to take lunch. She set the basket to one side, taking the thin cloth on top of it and unfolding it, spreading the tablecloth across the grass. She gestured for Anton and his companions to sit first, before she and Gervese followed suit.

The basket of goodies were unloaded, and Ryllae handed out sections of dried meat and cheese from a cloth. There was also a plate of grapes and two canteens, one filled with Gold-touch wine, the other filled with water. All in all, it was a hearty, light meal.

Another hour passed. Peacefully, yes, but it passed all the same, increasing the chances that their guest had fallen into some trouble, or stood them up.

So, Ryllae glanced at Anton, asking the question she was sure was on all their minds. ”What will you do if they don't show?”

Nordor, Golden Grape Fields on the Outskirts of the City

"We were in quite a hurry after all the time at sea, that much is to be sure. How does this day find you, my friend?"
Amerigo

The man smiled genuinely, breathing in the warm air. ”It's a wonderful day, I dare say. Every day is wonderful when you're given one more day above the soil, I think.”

"Charmed, sir, either way. Ma chiamo Amerigo. We're on our way to meet a friend of a friend— a mutual acquaintance of ours told us she's been having trouble with a rough crowd recently— hoped we could see to it that she knows she's safe, while we're out here seeing the sights."
Amerigo

The man stared a little more carefully at Amerigo, his hand straying from his hoe to the simple sword strapped at his waist. There was a shift, perhaps in the wind, perhaps in the tension between the two men. But it was evident to see the man immediately became more closed off and wary.

"Tell me. Has there been much trouble about the fields these days?"
Amerigo

”Ah… you know how it is in Nordor. Everything is fairly spread out, yes? When word travels, it usually takes some time.”

With a little twinkle in his eye, the man slowly drew his fingers to his face, and blew hard. A ringing whistle rang out, and perhaps thirty to forty-five seconds later, three soldiers, dressed with the colors of nobility, converged on the man's location. They took defensive stances, hands on the pommels of their undrawn swords.

Then man shrugged, standing up a little straighter. He still smiled, but there was an edge to it.

”I've heard no news of trouble or a lost sister in Nordor. Now, I would highly suggest you take your companion and head out the same way you came in. I can't guarantee your safety if you continue forward…”

Hathforth, Elysia Quarters, Prison Below the Barracks

@The Otter

"Well, this is a pitiful sight, isn't it? At least this time you were smart enough not to try and fight your way out of it; I'm sure you'd have been hacked to pieces if you'd tried that again."
Callum

Raiden’s heart sank a little at the sight of Callum. The Queen's chosen, or whatever the hell he was. It was bad news he was here. What could he possibly want, if he wasn't here to kill him, or torture him?

Well, that wasn't confirmed. Callum still had his weapons. So he was very much in a position to main or kill him. Here, alone in his cell, without trial and where no one would be the wiser.

A sad life. Man, maybe I should have been a bard.

”The captain made a fairly convincing argument, him and all his soldiers staring me down in the water.” Raiden said with a nonchalant shrug, at least as much as he could with his arms bound as they were.

"I imagine you wish you'd decided to listen to me before—or are you still so self-assured that you're convinced it was the right choice?"
Callum

Raiden gave an abashed look, almost looking shy as he gave a sheepish grin. ”Can't blame a man for acting aggressively after a nap. It was a really good nap too. The best naps are the ones stolen as a stowaway in the hold of a ship…”

He gave a little sigh, gesturing to himself. ”As you can see, I am not in any position to talk back to you today. So, we can continue the conversation that day. Or, if you had new questions, I’m all ears. I'm sure you have plenty…”

Odenfield

@Psyker Landshark

”The Countessa sleeps.” Came the soft words of the Queen. The Countessa’s body had been Glamoured to resemble Odella Irwine, a young daughter of an earl that was a patron to the Odenfield university.

‘Odella’ smiled, betraying the pleased, subdued satisfaction of Evelyn Keove behind the wheel.

”Please, address me as Lady Irwine, Lady Elarel. I am very pleased to be embarking on this journey with you. Together, we will find out who burned my beloved city.”

They passed a few more pleasantries, cementing their roles, before rolling up at Duke Rhinecliff’s estate. The lights were gleaming, and there was a murmur of cheerful vices rising up from within.

As Odella and Elora disembarked from the carriage and entered the estate, they were greeted by none other than Lady Olivia Rhys, one of the closest confidants of Duke Rhinecliff.

”Lady Irwine, Lady Elarel, I'm so pleased to see the both of you. And traveling by carriage despite living on opposite areas of the city, you must love each other so! Please, come in, you're right on time.”

I think the only one not participating in the war so far is Asterion, but you got to take it easy with the man, someone shot him up good... Someone, don't know who.
Sorry it's a bit short, but there we go~ All hell is breaking loose. :>

Ehlm City, Outside the Central Spectral Woods

@Herald, @SporkoBug, @Qia

Savio's eyes lit up in pure irritation, a growl emanating from him as he turned to Stalker.

”You little bastard, you really think I don't understand you? Little back-stabbing son of a-” He growled again, gaze tearing itself to focus on Val, now in the throes of his transformation. Savio bared his teeth behind his mask.

”All I see is a Heart in front of me! Boys, kill them all, including the little mimic-whelps!”

While Savio's men opened fire with their AE rifles on Mercyval and Wren, Savio stepped back a bit, getting some space between him and and Mercyval. He turned his attention on the mimicraptors nearby, and raised his hand.

Immediately, fire erupted in a spinning vortex around them, slowly encroaching, aiming to box them in and burn them slow. Roose gave out a squeak, ducking behind Stalker a little as the fire came closer. Her eyes connected with Savio through the flames, and her eyes flared a dark energy.

Savio's eyes matched hers, blinded by dark energy, as he gripped his head. ”Ahhh… You whelp, what did you-” Before he began to hyperventilate, throwing fire this way and that against imaginary foes, some fire touching his own men as Savio became more agitated and confused.

Meanwhile, the driver of the convoy knew he had been told to take off if there was a fight. But when VV leapt out before he could push the gas, he had to stay idle, eyes on the rear view mirror. ”You stupid girl-” he muttered frantically.

The driver wasn't even on VV radar; she had given a meaningful glance to A, ”We're definitely not” Before she stepped out.

RPGs shifted on her position, but before they could let loose, Ghost Corps soldiers stepped out, sniping all four thugs who carried the RPGs. VV was free to charge forward, and so she did. She swiped a hand at Vin, and a wave of darkness took him, suspending him in the air in a hand of darkness.

Vin's men, in response, attempted to open fire on VV, but Ghost Corps were quick to retaliate. Soon enough, it was a fire fight on both sides of the convoy, men on both sides falling.

Make...? Like a pasta?
Apologies, I'm super late. ^^; Post is halfway through, should be up tomorrow!
Looking good! I'll need a little bit to think on this one, will hopefully have responses in Riverbend and Lougham tomorrow. :>
