Darius by@FunnyGuy and Dante by @Alivefalling

“Fuck.” Darius couldn’t help but utter as he witnessed Dante collapse after everything that had occurred. Avalia was really something and Darius was getting intimately familiar with it. To see a gargantuan bird was enough, but to fight it as they did was well beyond what he expected to experience. The altercation seemed to punch him with a potent dose of reality. For the most part, Darius found his time in Avalia to be like a continuation of the vacation he and Dante had planned.

The dust was still settling but Darius knew the fight had met its conclusion. The roc was completely devastated but not before it managed to get Menzai. Darius was reluctant to move from his spot. Sure, he had only known Menzai for a short time but they had spent every day with the stoic wolf-man. And to think Darius and Dante weren't quite considerate to him. They trained as he instructed but they also made it a daily headache most of the time and tested his patience.

With so much to take in, Darius kind of just stood there for a moment.

“You gotta move.” He whispered to himself, talking through his actions as he typically did whenever he felt stuck. He trudged to Dante lying face-first in the dirt. He didn't even have words for him at the moment. Dante helped kill the roc but Darius was oblivious to what the hell his brother was doing afterward. With an unenthusiastic sigh, Darius rolled Dante onto his back. The unconscious twin was heavy but he was confident he could lift him. He sat Dante up and proceeded to lift him from underneath his arms. This was the hard part since Dante ensured he was almost built like a margarita glass, so he made sure to quickly get his shoulders under Dante's right arm before bending down to reach for his right leg so he could hoist him into a fireman's carry. Another sigh escaped him. “What the fuck were you even thinking? Like how do you fuck up a W like that?” Darius complained as he trudged through the dust-filled air.

He rambled and cursed on and on until he heard a quick gust of wind. Then and there, he noticed Jin right beside him. Darius recognized him from the village but simply forgot his name since they hardly had many interactions. Jim wasn't alone either as several other members of the Gaurav Village were accompanying him.

“Huh?” Darius wasn't sure of what else to say as he continued walking while carrying Dante.

“Darius, allow us to relieve you and safely take your brother to receive medical attention.” Jin spoke firmly, though it still came across as a request. Darius stopped in his tracks and stared at Jim for about a second as if weighing the option… literally.

“What's good with you, is good with me. Take him.” Darius kept still as two wolves of Gaurav took Dante off his back while the other set up a litter to place him onto. “Before you ask. He's not too banged up. I think he broke his brain… though I'm pretty sure that happened way before we got to Avalia.” Jin gave Darius an inquisitive look before nodding in the direction of the others through the dust. They all made haste, lightly jogging in the direction of the others

Things should have gotten easier. It was supposed to be that way, right? Yet upon clearing the dust he found the two unfamiliar fairies having a bit of a stare-down with Ulyses. There was also- Darius wouldn't look toward Menzai and Phia. He couldn't.

“Hey Ulyses, Thing 1 and Thing 2! Let's get off of ten and take it down to a… a two. Okay?” Darius shouted before anything more could be said between them. Darius wasn't his usual cheery self, looking a tad bit annoyed by the whole situation unfolding. He faced the towering Ulyses as he was sure he could reason with the person he knew. “Hey listen! They helped us. A lot.” Darius stressed. “I don't know them but… I don't know, take my word for it. This could have been a whole lot worse and I trust them.” Darius turned around toward the two peculiar fairies. “We're not fighting, right?”

Lorenzo couldn't say he didn't enjoy Farim's company despite dreading the mere presence of his father. He did not know how a man like that could raise someone so unlike himself but Farim was a shining example of the possibility. The duke chuckled at Farim's reply about the sun tanning his skin as dark as his own. That is the goal! The thought only intensified how humourous Lorenzo found the idea. Learning that his family wasn't accompanying Farim helped as well, allowing Lorenzo to return to his state of peace once more.

“I have a feeling only the friendliest of Caesonians are coming to the beach today. So, yes, more of me will be here to pretend they're in Vermillion.” Lorenzo said almost pompously. “Farim, if you'd like, maybe you can accompany us to Veirmont Beach. If you enjoy Sorian Beach, you won't want to live anywhere else if you visit ours. The white sand is like fine powder! Coconut trees are plenty… and there may or may not be a freer section of the beach that a rare few know of.” Made the effort to open his eyes so he could shoot Farim a sly yet painful wink as the sun assaulted his eyes. “Gods that's bright!”

To simply stand in the presence of the two nobles gave Alexander a sense of pride. He hadn't been shooed away or simply ignored after beginning his engagement with them. He could not wait to share how the conversation had gone with Lianna but he also knew this was just the beginning. Pleasantries only meant the two weren't particularly rude. It was conversating as a peer among these folk that would separate him from any other random new face that wished to greet them. For Alexander did not wish to simply be a man people liked but one they respected. To be a great man would be his goal. His accomplishment.

Being so close to Princess Sadie and Count Edward's son made their rungs of the envisioned ladder seem so much further from him than he initially thought. Their expressions and words held warmness but he could almost taste the unfamiliarity with him in their tones. A natural thing. Alexander aimed to persuade them to his favor but he would not force it. He had too much pride to do so in this situation. The man wasn't desperate and he did care deeply about what his true first impression might be.

“I'm glad you're fine, your highness and your humbleness is… well I've heard tale of you but to see it in person is quite refreshing. Some nobles forget they're people. And most royals forget they can cry, sweat, and bleed like everyone else.” Alexander shrugged as he commended the princess on the sliver of character he witnessed so far. She had the power to ruin those women's lives or at least threaten to do so. She didn't even have harsh words towards them. Not even a whisper.

His face turned toward Drake who he found to be a charming man so far. It was no surprise he sat so comfortably across from the princess. He not only had station but a handsome face and a confident air about him as well. As long as he kept away from his father's extracurricular practices, the young man would become quite something in the future.

“My wife…” Alexander turned slightly so he could see her for himself. Lianna was in the middle of carefully lifting her tea cup to her lips. Alexander couldn't help but smile and watch for a moment, as if his love for her carried his spirit from very being. “She's perfectly fine. Lianna is a bit shy but she also wanted to make sure the princess was well.” His eyes darted to Sadie he withheld a chuckle. “You gave her quite the scare. Especially considering how interesting that dinner with Alidasht turned out two nights ago. She's without sight so… she thought the worst had happened.”

It was while he spoke that he noticed the princess's silent yet enthusiastic greeting toward someone out of his purview. Despite his desire to look, he kept his attention on those in front of him. Alexander wouldn't dare let that woman distract him again. For now, he'd keep his back to them. “Happenings like that make me wonder how the masquerade party will go this evening. And Sir Drake. Keep that fire about you. We should all maintain a high level of decorum but we shouldn't shy away from a little confrontation. You maintained tact in my opinion”

More and more nobles arrived to attend the tea party, and one of particular note caught Alexander's gaze. Dark honey blonde hair and a petite frame adorned with soft shades of lavender purple. Though she was not Caesonian, Alexander recognized the Varian princess as it was important for him to know who the world's major players were.

Princess Sadie Lucille Camille… and not alone it seems. His eyes shifted to her small entourage of bodyguards that accompanied her arrival. His eyes locked on the blonde, appearing to be the leader of the pack. He took a sip of his tea as he silently sized the woman up, more curious of the beautiful bodyguard rather than the princess herself. For him, it was a natural thing. To Alexander, positions in society were simple ladder rungs and a Varian princess was far too high for him to reach at the moment. However, Genevieve could be grasped. She was only a bodyguard, upholding a duty that would leave her unremembered by history. Yet it was this duty that granted something Alexander identified as just as important as wealth and power in his climb toward the top. Something could not be forced or purchased.

It was his fixation on the bodyguard that stole his attention from Sadie's stumbling and fall that nearly reached his table. Alexander's eyes shot open as Lianna jumped in her seat with a slight yelp as she didn't know what was happening. Putting down the tea cup, a gentle hand was placed on his wife's hand that was clutching one of the arms of her chair. She was tense and briefly reminded of her helplessness.

“Everything is fine. Princess Sadie tripped and… fell.” It was strange for him to explain such a thing so simply about the extraordinary but that's exactly what had happened. Lianna eased up, especially as the princess started apologizing. “It's not a problem.” Alexander said with a forced smile. He clenched his jaw when she turned to the other woman as he thought about how she startled his wife and how she could have very well fallen into her. He himself was not sure what he might have done if that occurred.

Once the princess continued on, Lianna cleared her throat in an extra obvious fashion. Alexander raised an eyebrow as he addressed his wife.

“Hm? What is it?”

“‘It's not a problem.’” Lianna mocked with a disapproving shake of her head. “Speak to her.”

“I did. I was respectful.”

“No, you were forgettable. You merely replied. With such simple words too.” Though her brows were furrowed, she managed a warm smile. “Love, show the princess who you are. Go on.” She waved him off like a mother telling her child to go off and play with the other children. He hesitated and Lianna moved her hand from his. “I'll be fine.”

“I won't be long.” He said just before planting a soft kiss to her cheek. “I promise.” With that said, Alexander rose from his seat. He stole a look at the bodyguard flashing a friendly smile accompanied with a nod. He noticed Sadie had taken a seat beside Drake which made things all the more better. The progeny of a king and duke. Heirs of greatness.

He was on his way to approach when the voice of a woman caused him to glance at toward the venue's entrance. His eyes might have returned to his destination but Mina was difficult to steer his eyes from. Her image remarkably resembled Lianna when they had first met. For a moment his smile was nowhere to be found, replaced by a look of awe as he found something he didn't know he desired.
Who might you be? His eyes trailed to the unfamiliar older man with her. A potential obstacle to his lust. A needed obstacle to return him onto his path. The princess, he focused to the forefront of his mind.

Resuming from his brief pause, he approached the table of Drake Edwards and Sadie Camille. He kept his movements subtle so as to not give her guards reasons to intercept his advance. The two appeared to be rather close from Alexander's perspective. It was the way he caressed her in a moment of weakness. The look in his eyes as he gazed upon her as if he could enjoy simply doing so for hours. And how will she reciprocate? He would just have witness that for himself.

“Princess Sadie Camille.” He greeted with a customary bow, while being respectful to not just take a seat between them. “Drake Edwards, a pleasure seeing you again though we haven't been formally introduced. Alexander Deacon of Javaria.” His eyes focused on Sadie. “I do apologize if I'm intruding, but I wanted to ensure you were alright. Not just from the fall but also how rude those women were to you. You would think they would recognize your standing, and not just because you're a princess, your majesty. ” He looked upon with platonic admiration, being sure not to overstep between the two.

Mister Luum listened to everyone wearing a misplaced expression of delight. He gave a nod here and there as if everyone was making excellent points regardless of what they may have said. This is good! This might be the most any of them have spoken in one go! As wary of and weirded out by her Mister Luum was, he simply had to have Zeva accompany his group.

After Bowyn and Rue's words of caution in taking part in their little slice of rebellion, he took the chance to speak while Zeva was being healed by Bowyn's magic.

“I like this. A little bit of good elf, bad fairies. A volatile combination of bright optimism and icy pessimism!” He almost sang in a cheerful voice. He looked over to each member of the group including Starfire nodding continuously as if they were all on the same page.

“Despite the threats of lost limbs or worse, what my friends are meaning to say is ‘chew the succulent meat and spit out the bone!’ Quit worrying about the bad. Your parents will be proud of all the good you'll accomplish.” Mister Luum winked before conjuring up a brilliant white orb of light magic above a raised index finger. He made it seem as if he had said something profound.

“You, Zeva… you can be my… apprentice. The third student of the School of Luum! I'll teach you everything I know. I'm almost middle-aged and haven't lost a limb or wings or my mind or my freedom so I have the world quite figured out if you ask me.” Mister Luum nodded his head toward, Bowyn, Bardulf, and Brigitte respectively as he mentioned losing things. “Just a staff…” He murmured under his breath with a bow of his head until he piped right back up!

“But don't keep us waiting. We need to go and quite quickly. Oh!” He turned to Bardulf. “And a splendid job at being right! We definitely need to leave! I do not wish to be arrested for murdering that owlbear. My record is quite bad as it stands.”

A few minutes had passed, allowing the smiling couple to indulge in tea and sweet treats. Alexander had grabbed himself a cucumber sandwich served on a small plate.

“How do you like the tea?”

“We've had better, but otherwise, it's quite good. These biscuits, however, are delicious!”

“I was going to say the same!” Her enthusiasm matched her husband's before she raised her teacup to her lips. To be out and about with Alexander is all Lianna could ever ask for. To her pleasure, he commonly delivered without complaint or denial.

Even with most of his attention on his bride, Alexander never allowed his surroundings to fade into the background. His eyes caught Drake Edwards, son of the resident duke. The young man gave a courteous wave as he passed which was returned with a nod of acknowledgement from Alexander.

“Duke Edwards' son says hello from a distance.” Alexander informed his wife who wore a brief look of displeasure.

“Duke Edwards. The weird one?” She asked in a hushed voice. Alexander chuckled.

“Love, I think you're referring to Duke Vikena.” He couldn't wait to meet the disaster of a man just to get a bit of a laugh in.

“Ugh, that man is quite something but no. Isn't Edwards part of the-”

He is.” Alexander rested his hand on hers to keep her from continuing. “Let's not discuss that in public, love.”

Lorenzo couldn’t help but sigh. Though it sounded like a neutral exhale, Lorenzo was disappointed that no one volunteered to test the water for him. He refrained from mentioning it again as the two young women shared their exchange of wanting to play a game in the water later. He’d surely know if the water was acceptable by then. His sight being closed off to the world left him with the reprieve to imagine his homeland, making his experience at the beach all the more exquisite.

“Yes, just like home,” He almost purred with a satisfied smile on his face. To forget the previous days this morning was his objective but Sorian always found a way to slink him back to his current reality.

"Well well well, some among you here look rather familiar."

The now familiar foreign accent assaulted his ears. Assailed his peace. One of his eyes slightly opened to the voice so Lorenzo could identify its owner. For Lorenzo, it could be any one of the Alidasht men. Fariz. He thought confidently until the young royal introduced himself to Olivia. Farim, yes. Knowing it was Farim, Lorenzo could put himself at ease, but he couldn’t help but think the rest of his kin might invite themselves to his oasis amongst the sand.

“Greetings Farim, the gorgeous mistress’ name is Olivia, and she is a family friend of the Vikenas, particularly young Devan.” Lorenzo introduced her from what he was told by both Charlotte and Devan the previous day. “And I don’t see any issue with you joining us but please try not to block my sun. A nice tan is the most I ask for this day.” Lorenzo briefly peeked his one eye out once more, confirming Hafiz was alone. The sounds of screaming children filled the air with the duke assuming it was just the typical horseplay amongst the youth. His focus lay on the Alidasht noble who had arrived. “Are any more of you coming?” He tried not to let his feelings bleed into his words but the slight hint of concern still found its way into the inquiry.

“Almost there, my love.” Alexander whispered down to his wife as he carefully pushed her in her wheelchair across the bumpy cobblestone path to the Sorian castle gardens. His wife, Lianna’s face crested with a close-lipped smile as her nose picked up the potent yet delightful scent of her husband’s cologne. Alexander was dressed for the occasion, though he was also attempting to impress the others attending the event. The serenade of music put a smile on his face as he reached the guards and a master of ceremonies charged with allowing entry into the venue. “Greetings and good morning, gentlemen.” Alexander said as an abrupt hand was raised by the master of ceremonies. He had not recognized Alexander nor Lianna. A man like him with a wheelchair-bound wife would have been a couple he’d remember. Sure, they dressed the part but he wasn’t familiar with their nobility. Alexander stopped in his tracks, his face still brimming with a smile as took in the melody of the quartet several meters beyond him.

“Excuse me, sir. Lord Decklan, master of ceremonies. May I ask who you are? Where do you hail from? I apologize in advance but I do not quite recognize you.”

“Of course you don’t. Alexander Deacon and my beloved wife, Lianna Deacon. We hail from Montague. Javaria, to be more specific.” Alexander gave a slight nod. “I’m visiting the grand city of Sorian during the famous or what few call the infamous courting season.” He whispered the rumored bit, leaning toward the master. “But! Don’t be so wary of us. Our place is here… amongst the nobility.” Lianna couldn’t help but smile at how fast-talking Alexander could be when he wanted something that he typically didn’t rightly deserve. The master of ceremonies in a fluster averted his gaze for a split second before matching Alexander’s smile.

“I assure you, I am not wary. I just enjoy getting to know the faces of those that are unfamiliar to me. Your place is definitely amongst the nobility, Lord Deacon. Find a seat to you and your bride’s liking.”

“I thank you kindly. I am looking very forward to this event.” He gave another slight nod before moving forth with Lianna. As he entered, he could feel the eyes looking in his direction. Even if she couldn’t quite see it, Lianna knew she and her husband would draw the attention of many this morning. It was the point after all.

“I think he liked you.” Lianna teased as the two approached a large table in the shade second closest to the quartet.

“I made him like me.” He shrugged before locking the wheelchair in place beside the table. He started to pull a chair back when Lianna replied.

“Are we also expecting men this courting season? Sorian has indeed changed you.” She held back a chuckle, covering her mouth with the back with a closed fist. However, Alexander let his chuckle fly freely.

“You say that but I think you would prefer that over my usual preference.” Alexander proceeded to scoop up his wife from the wheelchair and place her in the chair he had pulled out. He then pushed the chair in as Lianna wore a smug expression on her face.

“I don’t care who you… spend time with. As long as your mine.”

“Always, my love” Alexander whispered before kissing her on the cheek. He then took his seat with eyes looking about the venue as he tried to find the most notable attendants at the tea party.
