Welcome to North Pass

Ehem! Errhem! Perfect. I think the best way to help in summing up these days is by just having me summarize the most notable events from my very own perspective- I mean as an unbiased narrator. Mhm, yes. So… Let’s begin! Cue the music!

The morning following a night filled with flights of romances, the beginnings of a master and student, and a meeting of man and machine brought in the biting chill of the north to the Righteous Tern’s occupants and the first sighting of the group’s destination. In the time it took to arrive at North Pass, the group surprisingly ate breakfast together, keeping up the Luumineer tradition of eating big meals amongst each other 😉. It was during breakfast when Bardulf introduced Masako, a warforged of elegant design to the others. She was met with warm greetings… though, can that be said with how cold it was? And isn’t she not capable of feeling warmth in the first place???

Anyway, Masako shared her desire to find two younglings who were very dear to her. The sympathetic elf that Mister Luum invited the lonely porcelain-plated woman into their group. It was sort of quid quo pro if you peel it down to the root. She needed to not look like a warforged that was up for grabs for slavery while traveling, and the group needed a warforged that was up for grabs for slavery while traveling… … … …

“LANDFAAAAALL!” This is what Mister Luum wished the captain of the ship would have shouted but instead, he made sure the odd group of adventurers exited the ship promptly before waving the Righteous Tern off. The group now counted nearly a dozen members! Bardulf, Brigitte, Bowyn, Rue, Zeva, Starfire, Raze, and Masako. In time the Luumineers could have possibly formed into a small army, but King Zanithel’s broadcast displayed over the town the group entered. The dead human sent shock and chills through every member of the Luumineers! The thought of Bardulf being murdered, dragged to the king, and displayed for all to see- for all to see Mister Luum’s FAILURE to protect him was nothing but cancerous nightmare fuel!

The grim news only served as a motivator for the Lumineers to secure an appropriate living space. The cottage was of simple design and located at the far northwest corner of the North Pass settlement but was able to house the entire group for an affordable price. Sure, no one had the luxury of keeping a room or even a bed to themselves BUT they were warm and in each other’s company. Anyone needing or desiring additional equipment was able to travel into town to acquire such necessities.

It was Mister Luum who was thoughtfully decisive in approving Rue’s idea of planning a meeting that would lay out the groups’ objectives considering the threat toward their group, especially Bardulf and Mister Luum being heightened. It made the most sense for the meeting to take place right after breakfast to consider the coffee and tea drinkers.

Mister Luum seated himself cross-legged on a quilt within the larger room of the cottage with Brigitte extremely close to his side.

“Brigitte, We… hmm. You should take the notes while I do the talking.”

“Agreed Mister Luum. I’ll need ta’ grab some o’ ma’ things from ma’ bag.” With that, Brigitte left Mister Luum’s side and tried to dig for her writing utensils.

“While Brigitte finds her things, I think I should make the recommendation to split responsibilities between us. Literally, split! Three and three! Maybe do two shifts or something. Just an idea of course. But I believe the big things we need to focus on is acquiring amas, power, and respect above all else.” Mister Luum nodded to the others in affirmation. “Amas to keep this roof over our head and food in our bellies. Power is something we can only get through training. And that means everyone, except maybe me... I have to supervise as you all know. As for respect…” Mister Luum furrowed his brow seriously as he looked at every member of his group. “Everything we do here matters, especially with our enemies really looking for us. Don’t make the wrong people mad, keep the right people happy, and don’t stand out too much…"

Time: Morning
Location: Camp of the misfits
Interaction: @princess Mari, @Apex Sunburn Scathael, FIVE @shiningsector

In the time that had passed since acquiring Scathael and his services, events played out in a way Thraash was unfortunately somewhat familiar with. It had appeared that their kingdom quit being afraid of rearing its ugly side of its face. However, the dragonborn found the attack on the nearby village far more heavy-handed than usual from what Mari and Scathael decribed. The thought of knowing the objective was to leave no survivors disgusted him and reminded Thraash why he didn’t mind making the kingdom suffer. Normally, he would complain about his partnership with Mari quickly growing to him being part of a group, but he refrained, considering Scathael and his plus-one lost their home.

Besides mulling over the village, Thraash took the day to forage for some more berries and play what he claimed to be the idle background music for the camp. When he wasn’t doing either of those activities, he’d silently watch Scathael work on Five while eating any leftovers he could grab from something Aerilyn fixed up earlier.

During this very morning, the dragonborn felt a tingling in his scales. It was about time he engaged in some action though he wasn’t sure that would entail. There was the bounty the group had originally planned to complete but there was also the desire to make moves against the kingdom. Decisions, decisions… he considered his available actions while occasionally looking toward breakfast. Mari and Scathael managed to pull his attention if only for a moment.

“Scathael, you got yourself a big fuckin' problem. Mari... is only quiet when she’s doing anything but talking. We’re just gonna have two pissed elves and breakfast that couldn’t be cooked any sooner... P.S. Hurry it up, Ears.” He shrugged with his back against a large sturdy tree.

Despite the obstacles faced, Viktor was satisfied with the team’s progression on this mission. However, the altercation involving the man who was reported to have turned into “smoke” upon apprehension raised a flag or two. So, Kobra has enlisted more metas to their cause… Viktor tightened the grip on his rifle, yet the hint of a challenging smile adorned his face beneath his visor. The upgrading of personnel had to mean their efforts were raising the concerns of their enemies. The team just needed to keep up the momentum and rise in the face of each adversity Kobra threw at them. Even without the added muscle, their security appeared much tighter as the roving guards left little to no windows of opportunity for someone to dart by without notice.

Viktor had kneeled beside Daphne while the others processed and commented on the situation. He appeared to be hovering but that was quite far from his intention. She hadn’t been in the best condition earlier on, so serving as her readily available aide in guiding the team was where he found himself the most suitable. At the moment, the team was becoming eager to act, and not without reason. Those guarding outside were more than likely expecting them due to the meta that was able to retreat. Zach had tried something quite silly with a banana peel while Will and Kassy inquired about utilizing their talents in stealth.

“What do you think, Nymph? We can run it similar to La Hoya. A dedicated infiltration squad partnered with a diversion squad that’ll reduce enemy oversight. Instead of waiting around watching, the other group will pull attention away from our foes.”

Time: Morning, Day Before Current Time
Location:Throne Room, Malthemoor

The blood-matted body of a sliced-through corpse was dropped onto the chamber floor like discarded trash. The irony of such a display. A human. A being so valuable and with so much potential in these lands, reduced to being a disheveled husk of flesh. The guards whispered to one another, filling the chamber with the echoes of faint voices as King Zanithel stood from his throne while remaining silent. Since the briefing yesterday, Deyanira had informed him of this threat to his hold on the kingdom. Their power would swell until they eventually served as the harbingers of everything he had established. If the demigoddess were anyone else, he would have had his doubts. He might have even stayed his hand until he caught wind of a tangible imminence from them.
Even with such a trophy of victory before his very eyes, he couldn’t help but feel his cold distant heart alight with fury towards it. He had sought to squash attempts at rebellion with a swift yet careful hand but now he found this carefulness to only be a kindness to his enemies. No longer was he facing armies of people he knew how to manipulate and play against. He now faced an abhorrent force that would tear down any hopes for his future vision. To summon these humans with hopes of harnessing power he could not stop with carefulness.
Veric Dalamor’s deliverance of this human was a truer sign than any, that he had to not just hold Avalia firmly in his grasp but squeeze it so tightly that the filth within bursts from it.
“So it’s true. People with rounded ears and the ability to harness power over the elements. To witness that they do not look so alien to us is… problematic. But if these rebels believe I will simply lie in wait, they will be utterly disappointed.” There was an intense look in his eyes and he slowly walked toward the corpse. “You arrived to Avalia to die! And you will be an example of what happens to the rest of your kind!” With a flick of his finger, several tendrils of darkness raised from the ground and entangled themselves around Zora’s corpse. The tendrils forced her body upright so he could face her lifeless visage with every ounce of enmity he had toward her.
“I want the world to see you, filth. I want her image projected across Avalia.” He spoke with such ire.
The cast sphere, a technology utilized to broadcast formal announcements and events to major cities and frequented locations, was activated. It displayed Zora being held up, with her gruesome slash wound on full display beside King Zanithel.
“Greetings Kingdom of Avalia. Your king has a very important message to give to those within it! This thing! This creature is known as a human. A handful of them have arrived from another realm to destroy our precious kingdom! Summoned by none other than terrorists who seek to snatch a prosperous future from not only us but our children! And look closely! These creatures do not look too different from members of our varying species. However, their most obvious feature is their rounded ears.” King Zanithel stepped aside and moved Zora closer to the cast sphere while rotating her slightly. Her right ear was on full display. “Other than this detail, they don’t appear to look much different from a typical light elf but there is another obvious tell, Avalians! These creatures also possess destructive magic over the elements of water, fire, earth, air, and lightning! They harness these elements with unnatural ease and will possess power that would even put to shame the violence caused by the barbarous war criminal, The Beacon of Dread! However, we as a kingdom shall snuff them and their rebellious conspirators out! They may harness dangerous magic power but I show you now that they can be slain! We may not be facing an army but consider us to be at war… there will be bounty posters for these humans and these terrorists offering a great sum of amas! Offers of freedom for those who are legally enslaved! Offers to grant full citizenship for warforged! I desire the deaths of these humans, and those who bring me proof of their deaths shall be generously rewarded for performing a duty for their kingdom and fulfilling the desires of their king! Until then, measures will be taken by authorities to ensure this blight is eliminated! Be vigilant Avalia, our foes are not deserving enough to continue to hide within the shroud of darkness!”

With masks donned and tonight’s wickedness behind them, Alexander and Lianna approached the magnificent Sorian estate owned by Count Damien.

“The party doesn’t seem to disappoint so far. Even from out here, there’s a liveliness to it.” Alexander commented as he pushed his wife in her wheelchair down the neat rounded walking path, giving his beloved all the details she would miss.

“What else?”

“Well…” Alexander chuckled as he suddenly stopped. “Though they may be a small obstacle due to their lack of steepness, there are quite a few steps. Besides, that…” Alexander raised the wheelchair’s front wheels over the first leveled step, beginning their climb. “The shrubs and trees are trimmed to perfection. In a way, it's poetic from what I know of the count.”

“Large iron gates…” Lianna commented.

“No straightforward approach…”

“Complete and constant maintenance of all within his domain...”

“A man can only hold on so tightly to many things on his own,” Alexander said as he cleared the first round of steps.

“We’re rolling again.”

“Only for a moment, my love. Count Damien has graced us with more of his wonderful steps before we have the pleasure of reaching the front door.”

“More?” Lianna nearly whined but settled for an unpleasant frown.

“Worry not. My wife desires to attend this party, and so we will get there. Not even a thousand steps can stop me from making you happy. Brace yourself, my love. These steps are steeper.” Alexander turned the chair around to proceed scaling the steps backwards while Lianna held its armrests firmly.

Lianna fell silent from the affection. This unconditional love was all she ever needed. She cared little for what he did to others, how high he wished to climb up the social ladder, or what he'd become. As long as the two could cherish each other every day like it was their first being in love… As long as she felt undoubtedly that she was his and he was hers… Lianna would ensure Alexander kept hold of that ring of his.

“Sir, would you like assistance?!” A man at the door called as he noticed the two coming up. He moved to approach the pair but Alexander promptly stopped him with a few words.

“No need, good sir! A little exercise before engaging in a party is a pastime of mine… Last step aaand we have arrived!” Alexander announced with glee. He turned to the doorman, shooting him a charming wink. “Thank you for the offer but the door is where you'll shine brightest. Please.” Alexander nodded toward the door where the sounds of the partygoers and music leaked from. “Alexander and Lianna Deacon.”

“Welcome! Count Damien is delighted to have you.” The doorman bowed his head before opening the door for the couple.

"Our pleasure." Pushing forward, the two entered the open foyer and proceeded into the festivities. Though Alexander beamed as he entered, none could see it behind his mask, leaving Lianna’s modest smile to carry their fashionably late appearance. They dare not think to mention Violet or her absence. The situation was behind them and dealt with. For now, it was time to absorb any stares that came their way and mingle with the others in attendance.

Tonight is our night, but I can't but be curious.. where might he be?

“Well, uh, thanks. Sure.”

Zeva’s lack of sincerity did not go unnoticed but at the same time, he could hardly blame the young elf. As much as he loved the idea of a young upstart inquiring about magic, especially light magic, taking his full attention off of Bardulf was not an option he was comfortable with. He only hoped the girl would make some progress in her untapped arcane talents. As ugly of an explanation as it may have been, Mister Luum did give her two paths. Zeva could choose to follow the path of magic laid before her by sticking to whatever she happened to have an aptitude for and leaning on that or she could very well forge her own path. A path she chose to take despite what she may have had a knack for. Either way, Mister Luum would learn just a little bit more about Zeva’s nature.
But what if she’s good at something enjoys? Damn… my wise-elderly-fellow-that-gives-cryptic-advice-that-happens-to-be-helpful act needs work. Good thing I have a few more centuries!

Mister Luum kept up his grin as he nodded with optimism while Zeva’s attention was pulled away by her surroundings. He kept quiet, casually watching Bardulf as she searched for something to latch her mind onto.

“Any chance you know how long before we reach our destination?”

“North Pass? Um… Should beee… Carry the three- no, the FOUR, minus five, yes…” Mister Luum squinted as he raised his free hand and did some sort of obscure math with his fingers. “We should make it by tomorrow afternoon at the latest but hopefully, we make it right before lunch. You’ll like North Pass plenty, I believe. There will definitely be some action for our party to get into there. You can test those new daggers of yours out. BUT first, we need to acquire that warforged and find a nice place to lay our heads during our stay. Take this time on the sea to relieve yourself of any doubts and regrets about undergoing this journey. This could be the last moment of calm we have the luxury of basking in. Enjoy this calm. Trust me.”

“Wow, what a shithole!” Mari’s voiced first impression of the village they’d stepped into was not far off in Thraash’s opinion, though it hardly bothered him enough for him to mention it. Thraash had found himself in several spots like this one before he joined up with Mari. Villages like this made for excellent hideaways as a spare room was typically cheap if one lacked the funds for an inn or refused to shell more amas than necessary to enable the corruption of Avalian society. To think it was places like this one that held the most honesty. The big cities that were once kingdoms were nothing but King Zanithel’s decorated trophies of war. The peace and good order were but a veil that shrouded the blade that would plunge into those who even thought of going against the king’s grand design.

"To be honest, I know he's in this village, but I dunno where exactly...Hehe… But don't worry. I got this." Mari’s assurance only brought forth a scowl as he felt he knew what she was thinking.

“You’re gonna-”

“SCATHAEL! HEY SCATHAEL!!! GET YOUR ASS OUT HERE, BOY! Thraash winced as Mari’s voice boomed through the village.

“- yell. How ‘bout you warn a dragonborn next time?!” Thraash snapped. “Your vocals are ass so I could’ve at least added some flame effects or somethin’.” Thraash shook his head after he had added to the complaints made by some of the villagers who were irritated as well. As annoying as it was, however, it worked. The guy the two were searching for actually decided to respond.

But he don’t look or sound happy… Then again, what dark elf does? You’d swear they lost the damn war!

“Oh we’ve got work for you, alright,” Thraash answered as he walked to the gate. “But I’m not too sure if some small-time village handy-elf is up for it. Mari, this guy’s probably never even seen a warforged. He’s gonna give our tin can a baby arm… And not the kind you’re thinking, Scathael. Not judging.”

Time: Sola 23, Night
Location: Castle Stable --> Deacon Home

Pushing the door open, a chilling breeze whispered through, sending shivers down Violet's spine. The air outside was heavy with an unsettling silence, and as she emerged, her crimson eyes met the sight of a strategically positioned carriage, as if intentionally cloaking her from prying eyes.

Her gaze lifted to the stars. The once comforting lights in the sky, distant and beautiful, caused the weight of her emotions as they bore down on her like a searing hot poker. A haunting wail escaped from Violet's lips, a guttural cry that seemed to emerge from the very depths of her belly. Memories of the previous night, intertwine with the present, causing tears to stream down her face. Her body crumbled under the weight of her grief, and she sank to her knees upon the gravel road. Fingers dug into the earth as if seeking solace in the very ground that supported her. The image of the young stable boy, his face etched with innocence and longing, seared itself into her consciousness.

“You did it…You became the monster they wanted you to be…

Her wailing was just loud enough for Alexander to hear inside. With a sigh, he carried the sword that had been stowed toward Darryn's lifeless body. He kicked the body a few times until it was lying flat on its stomach.

“Try not to haunt me, Darryn. None of this was personal. Just need to send a message…” He took a second to ponder what he just said. Well, technically two.” His face kept stoic as he swung down, cutting about an inch from the base of the boy's skull. Acting quickly, Alexander dropped the sword and scooped up the headless corpse. He heaved it up into a shoulder carry and briskly proceeded out of the stable door.

“Get inside. Don't you realize we're within the castle walls? We cannot linger here.” They were lucky many were attending the masquerade party or searching for… her. Picking herself up off the ground Violet fumbled her way into the carriage, sitting across from Alexander’s seat. Her body collapsed into the wall of the carriage as she didn’t have the energy to act her station, she was far past that now. Emotionally drained, Violet's red and swollen eyes complimented the blood that had now dried on her face. Her empty and eerie expression kept fixated on whatever was outside of the carriage.

The carriage driver kept his eyes forward, knowing his job tonight was to serve but a single purpose. A few seconds went by as a creaking, a thud, and shutting of a trunk from the rear of the carriage was sounded. Alexander was even quick to enter the carriage but surprisingly refrained from slamming the door behind him in his haste. Once seated, his gaze fell upon Violet and her quietness.

Murderer…Monster…you disgust me… Her mind raced with ill thoughts of ending everything. If her mother and father saw her now, covered in blood, having to face the truth of their decisions, would they feel any remorse?

Her body felt stronger than ever. She had her vision back and her mind felt less clouded than before. Feeling as if she could defeat an army single-handed, yet her mind held her back. The constant whispers in her ear, Murderer…Monster… She really had become the thing everyone painted her to be, she had become the thing she feared. Breaking the silence between them she finally spoke “Will it ever get easier?” Her voice trailed off in a soft monotone whisper as she continued to look out the window expressionless.

“Move from the window, Scarlet.” He wagged his hand for her to shift toward the center of the bench on her side.

“My name is Violet, not Scarlet.” She said sternly, her body shifting towards the center of the carriage. Her eyes moved to fixate on the stranger that was Alexander, her crimson orbs searched his appearance. He was clever, she’d give him that. He appeared to be such a simple man, nothing special at all.

“And it depends on what you think is difficult. You'll get used to feeding, though it is a lot like grieving a loved one. The denial, the anger… sometimes you bargain, and then there's the crippling depression… but eventually you accept it. You accept that what you were is lost.” And then he scoffed. “I guess it gets easier then… but then you start to notice the craving coming on more frequently and that it takes a little more and a little more to satiate you each time… But even that's not so bad if you're smart. The worst part is when you slowly stop caring about the things you once loved.” Alexander's face grew solemn as he spoke, especially the last part. Not even I could bear that.

Silence crept in after his words, Violet sat contemplating everything he said but she already knew and he was simply confirming. The hollow shell that sat before him was nothing more than a living corpse. Doomed to walk in the shadows and feed on the living.

“What exactly is your goal here…You choke me, pull me out of my home, drag me to a dying corpse, dangling his body in front of me like a carrot. You must be very pleased with yourself she hissed in a venomous tone that made Alexander raise one of his eyebrows. “Very bold of you to do so on the one night my father has planned a ball and expects my attendance.” She let out a laugh but it wasn’t filled with humor. “I bet you were the one who also put the ax in my face.”

“What's this? A bold man being pleased after taking you out and choking you just before dinner?” He grinned. “It is courting season after all. I'd say I did well tonight.”

Pressing her back against the carriage she stared at him for a moment surprised that even came from his mouth. "You're choice of courting a woman is rather interesting." She said unable to hide the small curve of her lip as she found his statement rather amusing.

Like a switch, his grin dropped neutral. “And you're the last person who should be betting on anything given your past few days.”

"And why is that, it's not like I have much to lose at this point. Take my life…been there…done that. Clearly, it has upset someone that I'm still breathing considering the attack on me just a day prior so I am curious if you're not here to kill me…what is it that you want." She crossed her arms against her chest as her leg crossed over the other.

“You saw what I'm capable of. Killing someone isn't something I'd fail to do. I fed you for fu-” He almost let himself get frustrated but took a breath to help compose himself. “If it makes you feel better, I'll speak plainly. I am not the ax murderer nor do I know who is. Everything I did was to keep you alive. You're welcome.”

Looking at him with a confused expression, Violet cocked her head to the side, shaking it lightly. “But why? People do not do things for nothing so what do you gain from helping me?” As much as the situation dug at her there was a sense of gratefulness she held, She would never admit to it, however. She had never felt so good and gaining her sight back was an immeasurable gift.

“Because you reminded me of myself. When I changed, I only had one person to guide me through it. A blind cripple. I love her but that is what she is. She helped so much and I am grateful but if I had someone who could truly understand this affliction by my side… it might have been easier.” His voice fell as solemn along with his expression.

Staring in disbelief at his words, Violet just listened. Strangely she understood what he meant. She should be furious with him, disgusted by his actions towards her but she was struggling to hold those emotions. Her stubborn nature towards who she was becoming had made her weak and sick, he showed her the hard truth, and strangely, she was grateful.

“I looked worse than you before I accepted what I had become. A monster. A demon. I just couldn't see that happen to another. My heart might not beat the same as everyone else, but it's still there,” he said, placing a hand over his chest still wet with blood.

Relaxing her arms as they fell comfortably on her lap Violet shrugged her shoulders softly. It was as if she were looking into a reflection of herself. She couldn’t help but wonder if he too struggled with the feeling of rejection and solitude. However, her mind also wandered, making her question if he was playing on her emotions and how much of this was actually true. She could play her own game as well, a bit of chess never hurt anyone. Now it was her move.

Keeping her eyes on him, Violet allowed his words to sink in. “I…” she stopped. She had truly been left speechless. She just kept her eyes on him, giving off a sense of understanding with her look. “I’m sorry.” She replied simply, the tone of her voice filled with genuine empathy. Even if this was a game for him, even if none of this was real, she understood the situation and felt pity not just for him but for her own condition.

He waved away her apology, silently rejecting the pity. Alexander would have preferred silence.

“What was it that gave me away to you?”

“I was informed of you but even if I had not been, I would have noticed you were afflicted. Frail, skin like porcelain, an umbrella.” He chuckled lightly. “I hated even glancing at you. Those eyes you have though, Scarlet. Those are quite interesting. Did they change or were they always this way?”

Shifting uncomfortably in her seat Violet felt a sense of frustration brewing. The first person to ever omit that her appearance was as traumatic to look at. She should thank him for his honesty, she always felt this to be the case however no one would openly omit it.

“Apologies that my appearance wasn’t up to your standard.” Violet replied rather coldly. “It must be so difficult for you to have to look at it”. She rolled her eyes at just how silly the thought was. She made things so uncomfortable for people, yet she was the one who had an ax in her head. Once again sympathy was not something she was granted, nor did she want it, especially from him.

Glancing out the window she tried to remember what her eyes were before, she knew they were red now from passing comments but she had a feeling they weren’t always that. “I believe so but I don't quite recall the color. I’m not entirely sure why they changed either, but I suppose it's one more thing to add to the growing list of unattractive features I possess now.”

Violet’s scars had always been something she despised. Starting with the scar that traveled straight from her neck down her sternum. She still held no clue as to why she received it only knowing her father had some hand in it, and she wouldn’t be surprised if he too had a hand in her recent one as well. “My body has become a roadmap for my father's mistakes” Her voice dropped into a cold and emotionless tone.

“It wasn't about you being ugly.” Alexander muttered bitterly, though he was interested in her irises. A mutation perhaps or maybe another variant of the curse, he wondered. “You were a tad unsightly but that's not what bothered me. You were just a grim reminder of what I had gone through. I will ensure I never have to see that again. Not of myself nor from you.”The crimson eyes that he was so interested in, laid upon him once again. Narrowing her attention Violet became curious as to his plans. What could he assist her with? He clearly had the same affliction and she wondered if he knew of a cure or even wanted one. “What exactly does that entail for me…for us?” She raised a brow uncertain of the answer to her question. “Where do I go from here?

Her expression dropped to a saddened look. She had just murdered a man and Alexander had witnessed it. Not only was the man's blood on her hands but her life was now in the hands of the man across from her. She knew nothing of him, he was still more or less a stranger and yet they just shared one of the most intimate situations she could imagine. She was trapped in his web.

“We'll do what we must.” The lack of tone in his voice made his cryptic answer sound scripted. He let loose a tired sigh just in time for the carriage to stop behind a house on the west side of town. “We'll get cleaned up. Redress you. Your mask…” Alexander reached down under his seat and tossed it up to her. Grabbing the mask she held it in her hands before setting it down to the side of her. She almost forgot the masquerade; her mind had been so preoccupied with everything that just happened she forgot she would need to attend the ball.

“Then the rest is up to you, I guess. If you seek me, then find me. Though I may ask for something in return. All I request from you now is to speak nothing of what occurred this night. You keep my secrets, and I'll keep yours. Understood?”

Staring at Alexander while she contemplated his words she leaned back against the wall. Letting out a soft laugh Violet shook her head. Alexander found his interest piqued by the young woman's change in demeanor.

“How is it that after being choked out, dragged to some desolate building, shoved into a bloody corpse, and now having you demand I keep your secrets …I find you and your company oddly comforting.” Alexander simply shrugged while wearing a smug look about him. Violet could only find herself laughing again after omitting her conflicting emotions. “I should have you killed…hell I’d jump in the fire beside you…yet all I want to do is draw out this carriage ride.” Her eyes looked him up and down, her crimson orbs slowly taking in the mystery of a man before her. “Your secrets are safe. Perhaps next time you enter my bed chambers it's under less hostile intentions.” She offered him a genuine smile, her fangs making a rare appearance as she couldn’t help but still laugh to herself at how crazy she sounded. Her words this time caused him to react differently than previously. For a moment he fell speechless at such an invitation, his eyebrows raised from Violet's insinuating statement.

“Well…” He shut his eyes for a moment. Once opened, he spoke. “Perhaps…” He let the word linger, tasting its meaning on his very lips before flashing a smile. Catching his smile Violet bit back hers, realizing that the carriage had stopped. ...we should go inside.” He gave her a nod before moving to open the door of the carriage.

Peeking out the window she looked around unsure of where they were. Following behind him she stepped out of the carriage, her mask in hand. Stepping out onto the cobblestone she looked up at what she assumed was his home. Looking at him slightly confused “You’re wife won't mind that I’m…here?” She knew that they were meant to clean up but to be seen here and in her state, she worried who may see.

“Come.” He directed as he started walking toward the back door of the house. “She is already aware of your arrival, so no need to worry. She's also been awaiting my return so we could attend your father's party.” As Alexander informed her of this, the carriage pulled off and went forth into the dimly lit streets. Watching the carriage, Violet turned back towards the front of the manor. Her playful side seemed to fade rather quickly at the mention of his wife waiting for her arrival. So the games begin again. She began to follow behind him, her crimson eyes practically glowing against the darkness that seemed to swallow them as they walked closer to the house.

The two proceeded toward the manor's back door. It was locked as always but Alexander was quick in getting it open with his key. Upon entry, the home was dimly lit. Not dark. Not bright. Just dim and easy for the pair's eyes to adjust to. They walked through the pantry that led into the kitchen until finally reaching the most brightly lit room, the dining room. It was here where the lavender-purple accents of the room could clearly be seen.

Lianna was seated in her wheelchair at the dining room table facing where the two entered. A book lay in front of her with braille pressed into the pages. One of her fingers was left where she stopped her reading with her face looking in their direction. It was hard to tell she was even blind by her appearance alone. Her eyes lacked the shade of cloudiness to them, and it always seemed like she knew exactly who and what she was looking at.

“Lianna,” he greeted rather formally. His tone was quite stark from the way he addressed her at the tea party, causing her brows to furrow slightly.

“Welcome back my love and greetings… Violet, right? Hmm, so he didn't have to kill you tonight? I guess that's a good thing.”

“Good evening Lady Deacon.” Violet responded, her tone cold and depleted of any warmth. “Yes, I suppose avoiding death would be a good thing.” Though Violet would disagree with that statement, she had already learned there were far worse punishments. “Apologies for the intrusion so late in the evening, I hope you are favoring well this evening.” Violet said to which Lianna sighed as she placed a bookmark into her book and shut it.

“I was. But I had to wait longer than expected with the change of plans.”

“The girl needed to feed. She would ha-” Lianna nearly snapped.

“I don't care. Her needs do not concern me. You promised you wouldn't be long. ‘End the boy and then return back’. That is what was told to me this morning.”

“Lady Deacon, I don't mean to interrupt, however, I think it's important you should know that the blame is on me. You are correct that my needs do not concern you but your husband's tardiness certainly does.” She paused for a moment allowing the room to settle into a silence before speaking again. Even then there was an uncomfortable tenseness as Lianna didn't make any effort to turn to the sound of Violet's voice.

“I was not in a condition fit to meet you, you may understand that I was in a bit of a state. Lord Deacon attempted to hurry me along however I didn’t want my first official meeting with the lovely Lady Deacon to be spoiled by my condition. I take full responsibility and assure you it will not happen again.” Her crimson eyes glanced over at Alexander before turning back towards his wife. He had hoped she would notice the warning of his intense state but a glance only permitted so much. “Your husband is too much of a gentleman to display my wrongdoings in the situation. I think it is important that I tell you about them myself. I hope you can forgive me.”

“Really?” Lianna perked up with a smile gracing her full lips. She even nodded, appearing impressed by what was said of her husband. However, Alexander still held a troubled expression. “Oh dear Violet, I am already aware that much of my husband's wasted time was on you. And word of advice for the future.Don't ever lie to my face like that again. 'Not in a condition fit to meet' me. Sure, I like seeing blood-covered mistakes. A mistake that Alexander wants as a pet. I may be blind but I'm not a fool.”

Violet’s brows furrowed at the mention of a lie. Although she had certainly spun her words to make them sound more pleasant, she really was and still is in no condition to be meeting people let alone having to attend a ball. However, Life was never that easy. “No, of course not, I know you are no fool Lady Lianna just as I am no one's pet. Her eyes narrowed slightly as the word pet sat on her lips. Violet's eyes glanced back over at Alexander, whose intense expression was finally noticed but she ignored it. “Nore do I plan to become one,” her tone stern.

We shall see who's right in the end. Yet another uncomfortable silence filled the room. With both now silent Alexander took a step forth.

“Now that the pleasantries are over… as sour as they became, let us attempt to cooperate.” Had to be the cool head in the room. “The first matter of business is Violet and what she plans to do now from here.” He turned to give Violet his full attention. “Do you wish to return home tonight?” Violet raised a brow at Alexander. Where else would she go, she was a young lady of a count; there weren't many options available. “Unless you intend for me to stay in a brothel it is the only place I am able to return to. However, my gown is rather ruined from this evening so I'll need to find some new attire. There is the-.”

“Violet!” He didn't raise his voice much, however, he was stern. He placed his index finger to his lips. “Shh. You're getting ahead of yourself. I asked but a simple question.”

“Simple answers are expected.”
“.........................-are expected.” Lianna mocked knowing these words disgustingly too well for her own taste.

“I absolutely hate it when you're this way. Put on the ring. Please.” A strange request by the woman.

Watching the exchange between the husband and wife Violet couldn’t help but wonder about this ring. Alexander’s snap reaction and Lianna’s retort made a few things click for her. She certainly wasn’t going to become someone's pet, but it seemed Alexander had.

“I don't think it's necessary, Lianna. I'm fine.” Lianna furrowed her brows once more, this time she wheeled herself from the table and toward where she heard his voice. Her voice was almost pleading.

“'Lianna.' You never address me like that… Can you please put it on? I can ensure Violet gets cleaned up and dressed.” Lianna couldn't see him but she knew this unsettling silence. It was the only thing that had ever put her on edge. Discomposed. Alexander's expression was that of a mid-winter night, uncomfortably cold and dark as he simply stood there unmoving. With her face finally turning towards Violet's direction, she spoke. “She can help me get ready as well, right Violet?”

Violet offered a toothy grin towards Alexander then to Lianna “Yes of course.” She nodded. Alexander looked between the two women, still silent before taking a a deep breath.

“Of course. I will… adjust. I will meet you both when I'm ready.” His words sent a wave of relief over Lianna.

“Thank you, my love.” she said just before he started for the staircase. He climbed up without another word.

“Thank you. You may not understand but… Never mind, we should get ready. There's a shower I use on this level. It should be to your liking. Follow me.” She turned her wheelchair so she could lead Violet to the first-floor restroom.

Violet followed Lianna toward the shower room. She had to admit, their home certainly was made with care. Everything seemed to have its place and purpose and it didn’t go unnoticed. “Thank you for your hospitality, Lady Lianna.” Violet offered her a smile as she entered the room to begin getting ready.

Thraash gave a single nod to Mari’s air of confidence. Even being such a long-time acquaintance of her attitude and antics, he always found himself amped by her bold disposition.

“Yeah, hurry if you're gonna tag along, entourage.” Thraash was as brash as ever as he expelled two small streams of flame from his nostrils. He glared at Five and Aerilyn respectively, showing he wasn't going to practice patience with either of them. It's not like he ever did, for the most part, so things were quite tame considering that.

“Hey Mari, you never mentioned. What type of guy is this? Is he a dwarf or a demi? Oh or maybe an orc?” He threw out his guesses as he found those races to be more inclined toward building and fixing things. He was sure elves and fairies could be handy too but his prejudice toward them often made those folk seem far too dainty for handiwork to be their norm these days.

Whoever or whatever this Scathael was, Thraash was ready to go find him. As long as he wasn't a dark elf supremacist, things would go rather smoothly.

“Remind me to give Bardulf a few words of admiration if he’s successful.” Mister Luum looked on at the two speaking in the distance. The situation seemed fine from where he stood but if it wasn’t the case, he was sure he could put in some practice on his grand dream of being the greatest sniper in Avalia. The distance is so short though. I don’t even need Brigitte’s help to hit that warforged… Hmm… Bardulf could lose a limb but he’d be alive, I’m sure. In pain, yes. Screaming bloody murder, yes. That’s fine though. The bigger problem would be the lightning exploding out every orifice of his being… That’s how Mister Luum imagined it, anyway.

Though Zeva replied to him, he kept his eyes on the pair over yonder. As much as he would have also enjoyed watching the love birds fly across the night sky, he had to have some level of caution. Ugh… It would be easier to just blow his arm off and let the sparks fry the warforged. Now that would be something no one has ever seen… Though the fairies would likely hate that. Even if I lied and claimed I missed. Oh… Zeva!

Quickly, Mister Luum slightly turned his head as he barely caught her say “...where do I start?”

“Umm. Start?” He appeared to be thoroughly bewildered as he had only caught a small part of what she had said. Fortunately, Mister Luum was not so easily beaten! “Magic! Yes!” He felt fortunate to be able to recall the topic before the brief silence between them became awkward. Though his exclamation was very telling that he might not have been listening.

“Forget everything I said before about picking what you do best, and just think of how you want to use your magic. If it doesn’t work, well we’ll just have to count it as a loss and try something else.” It was almost impressive how easily he shrugged after saying this. “Firstly, we need to ensure Solaris is high in the sky. As bright as he can be! Your magic will be extra potent with his blessing!” He briefly put a hand on her shoulder before quickly snatching it away upon making contact. He almost behaved as if he touched a hot stovetop and tucked the hand beneath his arm holding his staff. As strange as the moment was, he continued.

“You don’t seem so great at producing light on your own, so instead, focus on gathering it from around you. The established elite mages of Illuminata might say it’s a crutch since you’re relying on an outside source for your magic but those fools lost the war and you, my dear friend are not a mage. Magic can simply be a spare tool or weapon for someone like you.”
