"Got it." Andy said and started off toward her cabin with Stella in tow. At Zeus' cabin Andy ran in and grabbed her backpack. She adjusted the straps so it fit comfortably, considered for a moment then took it off and put on an extra sweater. Andy fully believed in wearing extra layers. You never knew when you'd need those layers. Even though it was the middle of summer. She'd be hot, but she'd have it as a pillow or something if needed.

Andy then picked up Demi's duffel. He had said it had everything except the Cornucopia. That was in his trunk. She opened that up and found the Cornucopia. The duffel bag she threw over her head so it was easier to carry, and held the Cornucopia in her hands. Back outside of the cabin she followed Stella to her cabin.

Location: Roman Camp

The legionnaire set about the task to let the Senate know the doors were there. Niah took a slow deep breath and started packing her stuff. She lived in a half state. She had some essentials always packed and ready to go. Ever since the fall of New Rome she had lived in that way. Niah had a feeling she would always have a go-bag ready. She had lost so much. Irreplaceable things.

But she still had the legion. She had Nancy. She would have Mads again. Five more years and she could retire. Get a little place in town and live a normal life.

Five more years would break her. She didn't have to live in New Rome. Was living in New Rome even a normal life? She could do what Marco and Emily and so many others had. Go to a human school.

Or something else. Find her sister. God her sister. She still needed to tell Nancy. What about Nancy? Would she help? Or would her dedication to Rome before all others come back? Niah had seen the realization in her face. Nancy might be the angriest person Niah ever knew, but she had seen that face. She had heard her realize how much dedication Niah had put into their friendship. She had hope that Nancy wouldn't get lost to duty again.

All of that going through her head Niah was packed quickly. She left the book she had been studying on the table. If she survived then she'd worry about figuring out how to get her sister back...if she could.

Her oath. She had to serve those five more years. Niah couldn't break an oath. Not wouldn't. Couldn't. Her very own blood burned at the idea of it. Kumantot she mentally cursed.

Andy was relieved when the door opened. Upon entering the house, she waved at Mads and Victoria. ”He was fine. Honestly, I got a way better reaction to him seeing me than I feared. I expected yelling and got a hug instead. I did get grounded though.” Andy had expected anger. Much like she had expected anger from Max, James, and Casper. Andy wondered why. None of them had ever yelled at her. They had always been nice to her. Even when Magneto was mad at someone else he had never taken that out on her. She was just so used to adults yelling, taking out their anger on her. It had happened so many times growing up that she just anticipated it from all the adults in her life. Part of her still expected Max and James to chew her out like she was a little kid. Casper, she didn’t think was capable of it.

Seventeen years ago they had almost been peers, just a few years between them. Now, she was the same age as their children. Of course, they’d see her as a little kid. They already had back on Genosha and before. They had been trying to keep her out of the fights, trying to protect her. They didn’t know how much she had already been hurt. Maybe that was why she had bothered staying as long as she had. A day with the MU led to her whole life trajectory changing. What if she hadn’t stayed? What if she had taken that alley and left during the fight? If the barista was right she would be dead and none of these questions would matter.

”Let me find my room and I can tell you.” She cut her own thoughts off from spiraling. Then started walking and realized that there was light coming from the key in her hand. She blinked a bit surprised and then followed the light through the house. Once she found where the light stopped she unlocked the door and went in.

Andy tilted her head a bit surprised. It looked exactly like the room at Magneto’s...at her home. It was odd, as the room had the same layer of dust and the feel of not being touched for a long time. She wondered why. Andy placed her luggage on the bed and pulled out the pillow. She put it on the bed and was about to unpack some more when the portal opened under her feet. ”Eep!” she yelled, landing on her feet near the others at the school.

She felt dizzy for a moment as reality and gravity reset. Two portals in one day was a new experience and she didn’t think she liked it, her stomach ached a little threatening to disgorge the tea and cookies. Andy was able to keep it all down though. She tugged on her sweater and sat down near Zari looking a little perturbed by the sudden change in environment, at least the place had a cool gothy vibe to it. Andy didn’t consider herself goth, but she appreciated the aesthetic. If it hadn’t been for the presence of her friends, the others who had gone to Kingston-Gray at least, she would have been ready to punch something. A warning would have been nice.

Andy needed to have a private conversation with Zari, but finding the right time and place was going to be difficult. She also felt bad for wanting to break up with Zari right in the middle of the contest. However, it felt more wrong to drag it out. She decided to wait until that night. After dinner, and after she chatted with James and Max.

When Danni showed up, Andy sat up straight. ”I found my room before getting dropped here. It looks exactly like my room at home.” Warmth touched her cheeks as she said ‘home’, it was a sacred thing to Andy and she had one again. She was determined to hold onto it this time. Nothing could take it from her, never again.

She was about to ask Zari what her room looked like when a welcome packet appeared in her hands. Since starting at the academy she had gotten more used to magic, mostly because of the class she was taking. It still felt weird to have things appear in her hands like that. What else could magic do? Quickly Andy shoved that thought away. It wasn’t that she didn’t like magic, it was that she didn’t trust things associated with her mother and Magic was strongly associated with her mother. She used magic. Had learned several spells through the school and her mother. She just preferred to lean on her other powers. The ones she had always known and that felt more a part of her than the magic and vampirism did.

Andy waved to the group coming through the star-shaped portal. The wave was mostly for Mary Sue and Gideon as those were the only two she knew well, and were on her team. While she knows April, their relationship was strained. April had also switched teams during the shifting after Usagi’s death. Gideon was very nice to her, and Mary Sue was awkward, but friendly once you got past her initial nerves. She hoped they could work together more and make wild things again as they had in practice. Gideon was just fun to fight side-by-side with. Gideon was always making her laugh.

Andy started filling out the sheet. She paused when she got to the date of birth section and skipped it until she saw the next question was physical age. So she felt that it was safe to write her actual birthday. If they asked she could explain she was time-displaced. That wasn’t a secret anymore. When she had first come here it felt like a massive secret. Something she wasn’t allowed to tell anyone. Now it didn’t feel like that anymore. She felt safer telling people who she really was. Especially since she had reconnected with Magneto.

The last part that gave her pause was the ‘declared item’ section. She decided to err on the side of over-information. Could the metal jacks that she used to set up her electricity fields get her in trouble if she didn’t declare them? She wasn’t certain and she’d rather declare them unnecessarily than not.

@Lunari Since this is very character driven according to @Skyline i expect you're probably fine with that concept. We've got people all over town.
@Elmyra You have to ask a mod to do it. You can just delete the text and leave it blank, and save it for your character when you post them.

Mandy flicked her middle finger out at the mention of the government and encampments. "Agree. Let's go somewhere rural."

She parked the car and pulled the kitten and its carrier into her lap, giving the kitten pets through the open flap as her cousin ran into his home. With her other hand, she opened her phone and sent a text to her friend, Kristian. She had done a couple of projects with him the previous semester and he seemed alright. They had been texting when things started getting weird. She hoped he was following the news still.

She then sent a message to a group chat she had with several Deaf locals. He friends. It was a quick message that surmised everything that she knew. It was normal in Deaf culture to share information when one had it. During COVID a lot of information was passed around that way. It had gotten more complicated in the years since paper newspapers went out of style to keep up to date of what was going on in the news cycle. And not every president made sure they had a certified interpreter for press conferences. One of the main ways Mandy got news was through YouTube where she followed Daily Moth news.

4:00 PM - Thursday, July 17th, 2025 - Château de La Lune, France

@PatientBean@TheMaster99@KazAlkemi@Morose@Nallore@Trainerblue192@kittyluna45@KTostada

On Tuesday, July 1st, 2025, you went to check the mail. A fancy, thick envelope was among the other pieces of mail. Upon opening it, you found a letter, round-trip tickets to France, and a Visa card. If you had tested the card with the pin given, it worked.

You had been overwhelmed and stressed. Honestly, you had been in dire need of a vacation. Even if it was only for a couple of days, getting out of town had been necessary. You had taken the few days off you needed.

When you arrived at the airport, you realized the flight was private. You weren’t even flying with other people. A steward made sure you had food and drink as you desired. You could sleep or watch T.V. It had easily been the best flight of your life.

Upon landing in France, a limo waited for you. The driver, Armel, loaded your luggage into the trunk. There were a few other people in the limo with you. Some light conversation had been had before you arrived at the dock. From there, you took a small yacht from the mainland of France to an island off the coast.

Ralph

Location: Château de La Lune: Foyer
Skills: N/A

Stepping off the boat Ralph glanced at his phone. It was purely a habit. He frowned a little as he realized his signal was barely there. Hopefully, the house had wifi that he could connect to. Sure, this trip was to disconnect, but no cell or wifi for most of three days seemed unrealistic. He hadn’t even told his mom where he was going. His boss, Ralph had just told him he needed a couple of days. Not that his job required a lot of clocking in.

Another man, Wadsworth, had driven Ralph and the others from the boat up a hill and to the Chateau. It had been almost a mile from the dock to the house, though “house” had probably been an understatement. It had been crafted of old stone and seen a lot of weather. Like now, it was unseasonably cool. At least to Ralph’s California sensibilities. It was mid-July, and he was used to 100-degree weather. France was farther north than where he was from. He wondered briefly if it was just normally colder in France than in California. Being on an island probably didn’t help the chill in the air.

Ralph fought off a yawn. He had slept on the plane. There was no way he could fly that far without at least some sleep. There had also been a short layover for a refuel. He had slept through most of that. But his circadian rhythm was messed up anyway.

The building was large and a little off-putting. He had already felt uncomfortable being with strangers in the limo and boat. Something about being stuck on an island with a bunch of strangers hadn’t helped make him any less nervous.

To the East of the house had been the vineyards they had been driving through, heavy with grapes. If harvest had been anything like home, they would have been collecting around September. Ralph had known that because it had been the same season as tomatoes, and the roads between the fields and factories had become slick with juice runoff. That first rain had always been the worst for the roads.

To the West, a garden had sprawled. The entrance were several arches of carefully grown rose plants. Paths quickly disappeared into the well-tended but overgrown plants. He smelled the heavy scent of green and flowers from the steps leading to the main entrance of the Chateau.

“Please head in. Your belongings will be taken to your rooms shortly,” Wadsworth told them. He paused in removing luggage from the car and had been setting the bags on the steps. “Make yourselves comfortable,” he encouraged.

Inside the Chateau, standing in the center of a large foyer, an elegant elderly woman—Ralph guessed she was in her seventies—had smiled and greeted the group.

“Hello, I am Elenore La Lune. It is a pleasure to have you all here. You are all exciting nominees for the Vorace Award of Achievement,” she spoke clearly, though an edge of tiredness was in the back of her voice. Her accent was a thick French accent, however, she spoke English clearly enough there was no issue understanding her.

“Your room assignments are as you can see here,” she gestured to two large boards on A-frames. A photo of each of the nominees as well as their names and professions had been listed. Under that information had been a color.

“If you would like, you may head up the stairs and to the right,” she had pointed up to the second-floor balcony that had wrapped around the foyer. “There is the hall that will lead you to your rooms. Dinner will be served at 5 pm, and after that, we will have drinks in the Rec room.” As she had said “dinner,” she had lowered her hand and pointed to a door to her left; as she had said “Rec room,” she had pointed to the door on her right. The nominee’s opposites.

“See you in an hour. For now, please take your time to wipe the travel dust off yourselves.” She gave a slight bow to the gathered group and had left via doors behind her. A glimpse of the room beyond showed that it had likely been a ballroom.

One of the women, maybe thirty, her name as she had introduced herself was Renee, stepped up to the board. She had found her name and followed the column down. “Ah, I am in Plum, exciting,” she said. Renee’s accent was soft British and educated, but not the high Queen’s English. “I like Plums. Ralph, you’re in Heliotrope.” She started up the stairs, taking two at a time.

Ralph followed up the stairs and found the room. There was a hand-carved plaque on the door that told him it was Heliotrope. Had that room been picked for him because its name sounded like it was related to a plane?

Entering the room he saw that it was primarily colored in purples. Interesting, considering Plum was also a purple, as was Lavender farther down the hall. Maybe the room designers really liked purple or ran out of other colors to use.
@Tally Dor Kathy likely knows Michael, as she's very active in the community. Anyone who reads the paper has come across her name.
