Stat/Dice Rolls: roleplayerguild.com/campaigns/717
Appearance:
Personality: A bit two-faced and a schemer, Shi Long seems to have a hard time acting honestly and feels far more comfortable living a lie and posturing than revealing how much he cares about others and how he can help them. Having lived a long life providing strength and wisdom for others he's gotten a bit too used to being highly respected, but also carrying the stress and burden of shouldering everyone's problems onto his own shoulders. The type of person who feels responsible for things he had no clue about, for many he can seem self-centered and like an egomaniac. But if you can look past his negative traits, you'd find a friendly spirit who really just wants to help. He may claim to be a smart and cunning dragon, but his heart is bigger than his brains.
Backstory: Shi Long is the guardian of the Fa family, long ago when their ancestors were still nomads hunting and gathering. He was curious about these humans and watched them. Most fight among themselves, stealing and hurting one another, but the Fa family were kind even to those who had less than them. They took care of each other and even total strangers, but were not afraid to fight even against bigger and stronger foes, and often still somehow scrap by. Seeing their valor and honor up close, Shi Long decided to help them. But back then, he was naught but a spirit who didn't even have a physical form. But learning from the Fa family, Shi Long learned how to use his smarts over his strength.
Having a primordial knowledge of nature, he would accompany the Fa clan and helped them in minor ways, such as making sure their fires didn't go out or keeping their food safe from bugs and vermin. When trouble would arise instead of fight, he would provide a helpful light that would show the Fa family safe passage, or ways to reach their enemies weak points. Over time the Fa family grew bigger and gained more esteem, eventually gathering more spirits who would come to their aid. When the Fa family's ancestors became spirits themselves, they offered their gratitude to Shi Long, ensuring their descendants honored him as much as they honored their dead. But there was one small detail the Fa family misunderstood.
They thought Shi Long was a dragon. He was not. He was a Xian, a fey spirit who's power were leagues below that of a dragon. Yet the Fa Family treated him with as much veneration as a dragon, something that certainly made Shi Long happy, but worried that he could not do more for the clan than what he already has done. But not wanting to disappoint these people who looked up to him, Shi Long embraced the role of a dragon, and had the Fa family create an effigy of him: the Great Stone Dragon.
For the humans, this was little more than an art piece, meant only to symbolize who he was. But for Shi Long, he had helped the masons gather the stones he needed to turn this stone statue into a vessel for him to inhabit, so that when the Fa family needed him most, he could help them not just with minor chores, but through his actions as well. For many generations to come whenever the Fa family or their ancestors needed aid, the Great Stone Dragon was there to help them, ready to provide guidance or protecting as needed. The Fa family of course were still as strong and brave as they were since ancient times, so they did not need his help often, but when they did Shi Long did everything in his power and more to help them.
For many generations, Shi Long has watched over the Fa family, protecting them in times of peace and war. But recently, something... Strange was afoot. A sense of dejavu, familiarity as if he had seen what has happened in a dream of sorts. And after meeting some long lost acquaintances, Shi Long knew something was amiss. Something that would no doubt affect the Fa Family, and possibly in ways that he cannot solve himself. Driven by fear and worry, Shi Long suddenly departed from his ancestral home, even leaving behind his stone vessel, to investigate this strange feeling and hopefully, prevent it from ever reaching his family.
