You can change your username once every 3 months, and your old username will still link to you and won't be recycled. PM me if you want yours done.

If it has, great. I thought I saw a screenshot of someone checking the notification box with an unverified email.

Yeah, you can update the checkboxes but you don't receive emails until you've verified. Good enough for now.

@Mahz The "username history" profile slot is bugging out. I haven't had any recent name changes and it's displaying for me. That said, it doesn't have any names or anything. It just says "username history" after the bullet point and that's it.

Okay, maybe fixed.

How cute is that.

A Samsung Galaxy A7 tablet, and yeah I press the button and it seems the button just gets the pressed look but does nothing when pressed.

Oh wait, it's because I broke it in my last code push. Lemme fix real quick.
@Mahz I noticed either something is wrong with the email verification thing or just that it isn't working on my device. I press the send email verification button but it does nothing.

So, you tap the button, the button is pressed, but nothing happens after that? It just stays a button?

I used way too much Javascript to implement that button. Maybe I accidentally used something your phone doesn't support. What device are you using.
I realize everyone is talking about the mobile view because 30min ago I re-enabled the option that lets you toggle it on/off, but it defaults to on.

See here: roleplayerguild.com/me/edit#mobile

I forgot that it's enabled by default. I just changed it so that the mobile view is disabled by default since it's not polished enough to be the default.

Just visit that link and set "Force device width = true" if you want to keep using or testing the mobile view.

If you do like the idea of that view and want to help me improve it, send me a list of your major frustrations with that view.
So, to reiterate, for me personally: Every DM gets an email.

EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS, YES!!

Every PM getting an email is ideal. I don't want to be spamming refresh on the guild when I can just get a nice alert from my email that I have a new message. And having the contents of the message in the email, not just an alert that I have a message. Ideal, love it, chef's kiss.

TBH I'd like every subscribed thread to get an email notification too whenever there is a new post in the thread.

Thanks. It's helpful to hear other people's thoughts.

@Kuro Oh, I see. Yeah, I'd like to put more work into the mobile design. I haven't touched it in years. Feedback is super useful. If anybody wants to help with this kind of stuff, just send me a ranked list of the top 10 or so most glaring issues. I waste too much time deciding what to do next otherwise.

I'll see what I can do. I'll also remove the "You" thing. Maybe a long username was screwing with it back when I first started building it.
I really do not like the way this looks on my mobile I much prefer the desktop look so if you can add a feature that let's a user switch to that view I'd appreciate it because this orientation is way too small. @Mahz

I think my main concerns is that "mobile view" has two menus that could just be one drop down menu + the profile link got changed to "You".

Are you referring to a recent change or just in general?
@Dagger @Raineh Daze @Hohum Sounds good. If anyone has strong opinions about this or if you can picture what you think would be the best solution for faster moving notifications like PM notifications, then that's ideal and please share. The more opinionated / confident, the better.

I don't use these features myself, so I'm stuck guessing at what people might want.

Anyways, I just tossed up a rough email verification system + a minimal email notification system. For now, the only email notifications available are for new private convos which isn't the most useful thing, but it's a place to start.

It's all on the edit-email form on your user profile: roleplayerguild.com/me/edit#email

As usual, it's a rough draft and I hope it doesn't crash and eat anyone's convo/PMs.

----

So, how do PM notifications work?

1. I assume it doesn't make much sense to send email notifications when you're already browsing the site. That's something I should fix for the new-convo notifications. The Guild already considers you "away" if you haven't navigated anywhere on it for 15min. Maybe I should use that same logic for deciding when to start sending emails.

@Raineh Daze
>Don't know how doable it is, but could limit the emails to once every X period of time?

2. What do digests / summaries look like for PMs? For example while you were eating dinner, six new convos were started with you and twelve people sent you eighteen PMs. What does the digest look like, and when does it get sent?

I'll check out some other forums.
Maybe I could do something like this.

But I'll pick one notification type for my first draft. Maybe just new convos since it's straight forward and won't be very spammy.

for me it's like if i make a new account it gets auto-nuked and the only way to bypass it is by using a vpn. i can't comment much on the discord since i've been in there a while and iirc i had to get an invite link from one of the mods to be able to join, and my nickname is still crocker which is a username from a couple years ago but i know there's been issues with the nickname system on there anyway. i haven't had any issues with cloudfare or captchas.

Hmm, thanks. I will replace the auto-nuke feature with something else. It does catch a lot of spammers but it catches too many good guys, and it's a horrible, confusing experience to find yourself nuked. There are plenty of other things I can try.

@Mae
I understand. Just to be clear, I'm not interested in adding more designs to the Guild. Though it would be nice if the Guild worked better with the built-in reader mode that browsers have. That's doable.

You and others make an interesting point that the more static the website is, the more expressive you can be with rich bbcode (if it were to exist) since neither you nor the bbcode need to generalize across different color palettes.

I do think bbcode extensions make sense in the near future.

@nodogs Can you be more specific about what you are running into?

Some possibilities I can think of:

- Auto-nuking is something that happens to only brand new accounts, and iirc it is based on IP address, so using a VPN or posting from Ukraine can trigger it.

- The /discord link is buggy since Discord changed their system within the past year. It's not trying to keep you out, it's just not working very well.

- The Guild is served behind a service called Cloudflare which does sometimes force you to fill out a captcha. I don't think I have that feature turned on, but I'd like to know which of these you might be referring to.
