Vindication comes, so too does peace of mind as I close one chapter and open a new one.

Sometimes I lie awake dreaming of being as consistent in this hobby as I was ten years ago.

Quality posting is far better than needless novels, yet one should never neglect detail when one feels the need.

I’m not a good writer. I’m just good at pretending to be.

Hi. I'm a role-player/writer who has spent over twenty-one years in this hobby.

I will pretty much write anything as long as my partner is cool with my inconsistent posting pace and momentum. I'm pretty sociable and I make dumb jokes all the time. My favorite things to write is capeshit, anime, space operas, horror, and slice of life/mundane drama. My writing level leans toward minimalism, but I try to give my partners/groups more than enough to work off of. I like to think I am pretty flexible.

I like cinema, music, and animation just as much as I like writing with people. My biggest hobby after writing is pop media analysis. Ask me questions or for suggestions and I'm sure to have something for you. 😎😎😎

The First Chapter! A New World?

“Well, you better start figuring that out if you are going to be her.”

The journal entries were a start for her charge, at least. Sigridrelle figured the best way forward was going to be on the woman’s own, now heavily armored, two feet. The information that had been compiled by intel suggested a lot of things about Alexisa and the world she inhabited. High middle ages. Several wars and ailments. If Mako did get put inside a commoner instead of Alexisa it might’ve been faster than killing her as a knight. At the very least Sigridelle could relax that her charge was taking it well and quite quickly too. If it wasn’t crossing the line she would’ve told Mako she had the perfect personality for an accidental death case.

That’s when she heard chattering on her commlink and the angel touched her ear to answer the call. She would stop moving and mutter the usual sounds when she received a call in the middle of the case.

“Looks like I'm being called in. I’ll check in with you later.” She stated nonchalantly, “Don’t die.”

Before Mako could elicit a response she had vanished into thin air.

If not for the stench of war, the southern hills around Addan would’ve been beautiful. Soft rolling hills, long stretches of oak and pine, and a beautiful wide river that came down from the mountains that one could see in the distance to the northwest. The road was a combination of worn dirt and there wasn’t much to be seen. Various farm houses scattered the distance with fields of crops as far as the eye could see. The sun was still high; evening had yet to come. What kind of creature permeated the wilds like such a place at night if giant birds scoured the skies at day?

Eventually, Mako would come to a stone bridge where a supply wagon stood bearing the sigil of Alexisa’s nation. There were no corpses, at least. The wagon had been ripped free of its horses, though some crates of inventory remained. Most had already been ransacked through or emptied; useless items sprawled the surface of the bridge such as tankards, scrolls, and the like. Scavengers and looters were looking for weapons, coin, and other things of value after all. There wasn’t much left for Mako if she chose to open what was left. A few pitchers of clean water, sacks of dried food for troops, and the like; the only thing of value would be that of a regional map.

But at least it was something.

I never forget.

I guess you could say it is my superpower. The unshakeable commitment to remembering what I really shouldn’t. The funerals. The smell of the arid desert. The screams of the innocent people that were put between me and my crosshairs. The utter dread that has followed me since I was twelve years old. It’s made me what I am. Resilient. Strong. Clever. It’s pushed out what I’m not. Obedient. Unquestioning. Foolish.

The shadow that lingers over me is not one that I fear anymore. It is one I weaponize.

It is one reason I bear the symbol of the Bat.

A symbol that represents the fearless. Those that sulk in the shadows and bring the darkness to light. No matter the cost. No matter the toll. My choice has earned me no friends. No allies. And I like it that way. I don’t care about The Batman. I bear his symbol not out of loyalty but creed. The crusade he has waged. The principles he represents. The price he’s willing to pay to be the light in the darkness, reminding Gotham that there is always hope in the most unlikely places. I understand this well. I am a soldier. I am a Kane.

I am Batwoman.

Detective Sonia Alcana was exhausted. The long nights were pretty much the expectation in the GCPD, but the shake-up at the department had pretty much taken everybody that she knew off guard.

And here she was, waiting in the middle of the night risking her neck because a normal murder ended up being not-so-normal. The Mayor would’ve swiped her badge if he knew she had called someone outside of the force’s sphere of influence. Hell, the newly minted Commissioner would’ve gladly given her the lashing of a lifetime. But in Gotham? When something spooky happens in the middle of the night decorated like it wanted to be found? Alcana’s instincts always pointed to signaling a bat. With a lit cigarette in hand all she could do now was wait. It didn’t take long.

“Those things will kill you.”

“With how this guy went? I’ll take my chances with the cigarettes.”

It didn’t take long for the two women to move through the harbor and into the crime scene. The detective had played it smart and close when she went about contacting Batwoman. She only made the call after there were no eyes on the scene, nobody who could’ve made the detective’s life sore by reporting she was involving a vigilante with the case. Alcana was turning thirty-five soon and the adjustment to be ‘hands off’ with Bat-vigilantes was something she didn’t very much get. Batman & Robin had been pretty much a needed element when she had joined the force and under Gordon’s directive the relationship they had was far less adversarial. But times were changing.

Detective Alcana didn’t very much care for the mayor. She didn’t vote for him. Not a bad guy, just an idiot.

But rules were rules. Sonia wasn’t keen on losing her job. Fortunately, the nearest coffee place that was open by the harbor was aways away. The officers she sent off wouldn’t be back for a few minutes. She could fill Batwoman in with what she needed to.

Inside the warehouse sat the victim, laid down in the middle of the room in a very deliberate manner.

His chest was carved open.

“Pretty obvious cause of death. He’s missing a heart. Who is he?”

“Name’s Fred Stickley. Upper management at Strader Pharmaceuticals.” The detective remarked as she looked at the vigilante. “We found his heart in a box. Right next to him. With a bow, all tidy-like. Oddly, weirdest thing was this.”

The detective reached in her pocket and handed the vigilante a card.

“Queen of Hearts.”

“This town has a funny way of being sometimes.” She took another smoke, “Personally, it's downright annoying.”

“I’ll look into it.”

The First Chapter! A New World?

We've been assigned to investigate and push back any presence of the empire in the south. Given what happened in Tektcha everyone is on edge. But we are not afraid. I'm not afraid. I won't be afraid.
Journal Entry: 17th of Ard, 1652 CE

Lots of bad omens recently. Iavan seems nervous. He’s only fourteen and he is my squire but I’ve never really been good at lifting people up.
Journal Entry: 3rd of Xemos, 1652 CE

We've set up on the Fields of Addan, about a few hours south of a small fishing village. By the gods, I hope this can stop them from tormenting others further. I refuse to allow them to get away with the horrors I've seen them do.
Journal Entry: 7th of Xemos, 1652 CE

A journal. Alexisa’s handwriting dotted the pages with occasional tick marks before a smooth penmanship filled the pages. The language was neither English nor Japanese, but the characters were familiar. It didn’t take long for Mako’s brain (or was it Alexisa’s?) to translate the symbols quickly as entry-to-entry spoke of Alexisa’s thoughts on any given day. As far as Mako could tell, the Siilmeraian spoke of many things including personal prayers as well as introspective comments on what she saw. There were even two pages where Alexisa apparently was workshopping recipes.

It was a scattered assortment of thoughts, for sure.

It was useful enough to get a sense of who Alexisa was at least, though there was only so much a few entries could do in that regard. It was a small booklet and many pages had yet to be used, so it only went back a few months. But it was still better than nothing.

Alexisa Githameire didn’t hold many items.

Fortunately, those she had were yet to be looted and scavenged from her body before Mako took her place. An old amulet, beautifully adorned with the symbol of a world tree and ancient symbols that Mako would find she recognized the meaning of. Symbols of Protection. Perhaps part of Alexisa remained within, as if helping guide her to the answers she needed? It was a theory. Beyond this amulet of protection stood a signet ring across her left hand, a small coinpurse, and a small handbook with a pen attached. Beyond those things there wasn’t much else to account for.

It made sense. Whatever she needed would’ve been given to her by whoever supplied the military.

The angel drifted along as she did so, muttering things as she read the things on her clipboard.

Hope everyone is having a good Christmas Day.

The First Chapter! A New World?

The Angel looked back at her clipboard, running her fingers down the list of information making ‘hm’ sounds every few seconds until she reached the information she was looking for and tapped it with her right hand’s pointing finger.

“The Battle of the Addan Fields.” She stated calmly, “A skirmish between the Kingdom of Siilmera and the Raaldanian Empire. Looks like Alexisa was part of some defensive effort that failed. Don’t have much more information on it.”

Information gathering on an entire world was difficult, but it really should’ve been something the people down in intel should’ve finished researching. She sighed, annoyed that she was left mostly empty handed again. Still, there should’ve been more than enough information to give Mako to get her started. At least she had finally composed herself to stand up and prepare for what was ahead. That was good. A past case sat in shock about their situation for two in-world hours. She had to get coffee between.

“Guess you’ll have to fake it ‘til you make it.” She glanced around, “Or find out what kind of info you can gather here. Most of the bodies here are wearing your girl’s banner. If I had to guess? They were outnumbered or flanked.”
@Master Bruce Added some small blurbs to Kate's codex section of her sheet before I turn in for the night. Hopefully its all kosher with you.

Additionally, if you have any comments on Kate-Bruce's (out of suit or in suit) interactions and perceptions I'm happy to hear what you have in mind or if you have any general thoughts. I did some math earlier and I believe Kate and Beth's abduction would have been when Bruce was learning his skills overseas. Kate's enlistment in the Army six years later around 2011 and her discharge around 2018-19. Probably would have been a few times she was back in Gotham and leave in-between. Not sure how much in opposition to Kate/Batwoman Bruce has been.
@Mao Mao
Huh. Weird, it's showing up for me.

Anyone else having that problem?

Looks fine on my end.
I gotta say the JSA is my favourite part of that movie.

I liked Sarah Shahi's role as the Khandaqi archaeologist/professor character but yeah that's about it.
Real shame Black Adam didn't do so well. Really liked Aldis Hodge as Hawkman.
