"As for nicknames, I just like to refer to Kcalb as Old Man... He hates being called old... And as for Etihw, Eti is fine."
"Oh, thanks. That makes it a whole lot easier." Eddie replied. "Eti and Kcalb. Eti and Kcalb. Eti and Kcalb, sitting on a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G." He then chuckled. "They look cute together though." He added, not aware of Etihw and Kcalb's true relationship.
"You got something against Eddie or something?"
"Yeah, you got something against me? What did I ever do to you?" Eddie was both teasing and legitimately curious as to why Dorma was being kind of rude to a guest like him.
"I don't have anything against you." Dorma retorted. Her angry tone betraying her words. "I was politely explaining to you who the God and Devil are of this world."
"Well thank you very much, Miss Crankypants." Eddie gave up on Dorma and returned to watching the performance. Apparently, the performer was a young girl wearing a sailor-like outfit. The ex-actor felt that this girl was familiar to him. He just could not--
"H-hello everyone, my name is Wadanohara..."
"Wait. Wadanohara?" Eddie recognized the Sea Witch. "Then that means..."
"You know her?" Dorma asked curiously.
The ex-actor ignored Dorma and searched the audience and there he found the shark boy who introduced him to Wadanohara while they were out and about in the Sea Of Death. "Samekichi." Eddie whispered. "Hey uh, you guys... I'm just uhh... gonna have some other stuff to do." He told Yosafire and the others as he went over to the shark-finned familiar.
This gave Dorma the opportunity to stand next to Yosafire. What a nice turn of events, she thought. "Wadanohara the Great Blue Sea Witch, huh?" She said to Yosafire. "What do you think her music will be, Miss Yosafire? Music from the sea, perhaps?" She asked her idol some casual questions, to get the ball rolling.
Eddie placed a hand on Samekichi's shoulder, likely startling the familiar. "Whassup, Sam? Remember me? Funny running into you here though." He asked while still looking at Wadanohara on the stage. "Looks like your reunion with your master has gone well." He remarked before whispering. "You still kinda owe me for that Death Sea, you know?"
"S-So, basically, we've been hired by Jeb Blanck to find someone. We were hoping to find him, or someone that knew his farm south of Ambran, but so far nobody has had any information. Do you happen to know where we can find him, Ma'am? We'd really appreciate any help you could give."
The Holstaur's mood was soured from Annalise's earlier threats but she stuck around fortunately. "Well if you're looking for Jeb himself, why don't you go to his farm south of Ambran? Why're you looking for him here?" The bovine monster was a bit confused from Magnus' explanation. "And you say Jeb's looking for someone? May I know who is he looking for?"
"And also what's the deal with your friend over there?" The Holstaur asked about Annalise. "If she's looking for a fight, I know a warrior who's living here as well as a Salamander who'd love a good scrap."
"I am here from Artenni's Emporium's Mahigan branch. We'd gotten a request some time ago for a caravan to be dispatched here, and I was to find the path to Sonarra for them. Best to have a monster cut through brush after all. If you'd grant us passage, we can stop and provide our goods to your people in about an hours' time. If that is agreeable, that is."
"...You are a bad liar, Dragon." The warrior instantly saw through your lie. "Caravans may be crazy enough to come to Varjan territory, yes, but to send a monster to search the path? Ohhhh, no one is that stupid or ignorant. Especially not an emporium from the north."
He and his men slowly reached for their weapons. It seems you had a fight in your--
"HAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!" The warrior and his men suddenly burst into hearty laughter, pointing fingers at you.
"Relax, aking kaibigan! Relax!" He told you. "Welcome to Sonarra, ate! Let's come, eat, drink! And then we'll talk." The warrior then motioned you to follow him. He and his men led you inside the dreary town. The streets were barely clean and there was a slight stench of decay and refuse in the air.
The warrior motioned you to sit with him on a table in front of a shoddy, poorly-built bar. "My name is Felipe de Santa Anna. A proud warrior of Emilio Hari's rebellion against the iron oppression of the Varjans." He introduced himself. "Perhaps you have heard of him, Dragon? Emilio Hari?"
"Anyway, what is a Dragon like you doing so deep into Varjo? Who are you? Are you really from an emporium from the north?" Felipe asked. "Or are you from the guild? I posted a request there, you know?"
"We have advantage on this terrain. Stealth isn't an option though, since we are in an open area. We have the element of surprise but there aren't that many places to hide once we show ourselves. So we have to use this advantage very well. A hard first strike to lessen the numbers to make the ongoing fight at least manageable. My arrows can easily pierce the other knights armors, but I doubt I will be able to do anything at this distance to the two heavy armored knights, both the red one and the high ranking knight."
"Sounds like we need a distraction. To maximize the effect of the ambush." Haley said from out of nowhere.
"Hey, guys!" The Siren greeted the party with a sheepish smile. "I followed you not long after you left. Don't worry, I wasn't seen. I mean, come on. If they saw me, they'd be acting all alert and all that." Haley then took a glance at the prison caravan. "And they seem pretty docile right now."
"Anyway, I agree with Freyr. All we have to ourselves is the surprise and we have to make that count since there's only four of us and a bajillion of them." Haley continued. "I have an idea, I can focus all attention of the caravan on me while you guys sneak up from behind and take them out one by one stealthily. We'll keep the facade as long as we can. If it breaks, hopefully you'll have taken enough of them down to even the playing field."
"Wha-?! Are you saying I'm fat?" Ian took offense at your question, missing its point. "I'll have you know I have a strict training regimen as well as a balanced diet of proteins and carbs and salads as was outlined in the latest issue of Monster Girl Care: How To Look Great For The Hubby.
"Thank goodness harpies are adapted for carrying off pretty heavy prey. Let me know if it's uncomfortable Ian."
"Hey, hey, no need to try to impress the ladies, Ozzy." Ian remarked. "You don't have to carry me by yourself. Let your Mothman friend here help out. After all, being in a relationship doesn't mean shouldering all the burden so your significant other doesn't have to." The mercenary appeared to have jumped to a conclusion regarding Morgan and Ozzy. "Burden must be carried by the two of them together. Just like how they will tackle everything else in their lives: Together."
Ian appeared like he has shared some wise advice and not some awkward assumptions.
"...but fine. I'll come along if only to hear what happened. Firstly...what's going on between Alicia and Varjan? I didn't think they even knew each other. And why would Varjan even suggest something like he did to me? The Goddess does not wish for any life lost. Anyone with a shred of sense would realize that."
"It must be getting very bad then. For Varjan to snap and ask death from Goddess Aylama." Mira replied, a sad look upon her face. "I knew we should've done something. But I fear it's too late..."
Mira then smiled, genuinely, as she addressed the first question. "Ahh, you see our little Alicia here is... infatuated with Varjan. I mean, he's not my type but I can see why she likes him. He's smart and despite his looks, he's pretty polite and quite the joker too. Oh, he loved his puns." She chuckled. "She and Varjan have known each other since they were children. But Varjan drifted away since... Alicia's not exactly on par with Varjan if you know what I mean. It's only now that they've managed to reconnect."
"Aside from Seleth's questions, how did you guys even meet Varjan? I mean, the dude's cool and all but he doesn't strike me as the type who makes friends?"
"No, no he's not." Mira replied with a smile.
"Well, like I said, Varjan and Alicia go way back. Meanwhile, me and Ecthel, we were... Ugh, how do I put this." Mira sighed before beginning for real this time. "We were contacted, by Court Mage Athos. Me, Alicia and Ecthel, to become friends with Varjan." She revealed. "We were told it would help Varjan since, like you said, he isn't really a guy to approach someone and make friends. However, Ecthel told me that there might be something more to it."
"Anyway, I don't know if Varjan actually knows we're just plants or not." Mira continued. "Don't get me wrong, I consider Varjan a true friend even if the road to that friendship is questionable. I like him and I'm sure Ecthel and Alicia, especially her, feels the same."
Your search in the Academy infirmary for any of Varjan's previous opponents yielded no results. What you did find, however, was a familiar face. "You won't find any of Varjan's opponents here, Elf." It was the student that attacked you and the Beastkin a day ago. He was in one of the beds, covered in many but minor injuries.
"His last opponent bailed on him and the all the ones before that have recovered or also have bailed." He continued. While there was a tinge of anger in his voice, it was clear his rage was spent and it did not seem he was looking for another fight. "Why're you looking for them anyway? Is Varjan your next opponent?" He asked.
"Wait, don't tell me..." He then laughed. "You're screwed then. And I doubt any insight from his previous opponents are gonna help you."
As Kazudain and Lisianthus conversed, a female Feathered One of brown wings, white hair and formal clothing entered the premises and appeared to be looking for someone. She was apparently looking for Kazudain since the moment she saw him, she immediately approached. "Sir, if I may..."
She stopped when she saw Princess Lisianthus. "Uh, ah, please forgive me." She bowed at the two. "I did not know you were there, Princess Lisianthus and busy with this man. Please forgive my intrusion. I shall leave you two alone until you are done." She then excused herself from the two and began waiting at the side.
The presence of royalty tensed her up as she stood diligently with eyes looking straight and forward. It was almost comical.
If this is the man you speak of, then he and I are well acquainted!❤️"
"Yeah! Yeah! That's the one!" Keith confirmed. "You know him? Who is he? Your ex-boyfriend or something?"
"Well whatever, you've got info on him so that gives us a leg up." Keith remarked. "Then again, he also knows you so that means they also have a leg up. So we're back to square one. Maaaan!" He whined at his conclusion.
"Oh well, what do you know about him? Does he have powers other than ice? Does he wear something else other than that funny hat? What's his favorite color? Does he like theater? What's his opinion about duck-chicken relationships? Did you and him ever smash? Do you know what I mean when I said 'smash'? I'm hip right? Please tell me I'm hip."
"Wait a minute, you said they're probably going to execute people?"
"I'm afraid so, Miss Lumina. These types usually have no qualms about taking lives, especially if it's in their best interests to do so." Athos replied.
The court mage listened to Tibrus' plan and he found himself nodding to it. "A sound plan, Sir Tibrus. Using the keystones can catch the criminals off-guard, giving us an advantage. I can also contribute in the mana requirements." Athos remarked. "Very well, this shall be our plan. We will find Sir Juan de la Cruz and try to apprehend him without violence. But should violence arise, city guards will be teleported in to aid you."
"Are there anymore questions? Any suggestions?" Athos asked before realizing he has one himself. "Erm, how will we know if the need for aid arises?"
