(HMU if any of these interest you) Fantasy where players are a group of undead in service of a lich, that hunt down a group of regular adventurers (possibly played by a second group of adventurers if enough interest is shown)
Isekai about a group of teenagers doing a ritualistic psychedelic and being transported to a fantasy psychedelic world.
Modern Sci-Fi set in a ravaged and brutal Mexico City in approximately 20-30 years. Characters would be a group of criminals/associates roped in trying to hijack and steal the Scottish Crown Jewels so they can use the scrying orb in it to foretell ragnarok. Inspired by the works of Neill Blomkamp.
Modern Fantasy set in the same world as one of my other RPs. Players have been hired as the first members of a budding arcane pest control company. Characters will then work to rid the denizens of the city of Gloomminster creatures ranging from cursed bed bugs to rabid chimeras!
Cute slice of life about where the characters are the staff of a fantastical Ghibli-esque cafe.
@PerfectThought sorry! I was very tired when I posted that. Do we need to have one picked out and put in the profile?
If so, what is "all the usual" for the British university system?
The misunderstanding is probably on my end, not yours so don't worry haha. You'll probably want to mention your reason for coming to Gloomminster under the history tab.
Unfortunately I've never attended university, so I don't have an especially deep understanding of the British or US university systems, but what I meant is that students puck a subject based course that they study and that is largely what their time in university is devoted to, whereas (as far as I understand) US degrees are more generalised than UK degrees. All core faculties are available in some form or another, english, humanities, mathematics, the sciences.
However think lf Gloomminster as analogoud to like... Magic Oxford. You go there for the Arcane studies, or the brand of it. Not because their other faculties are anything particularly special. There are better places for mathematicians or other such than Gloomminster.
If it's alright, I'd like to give this a shot? I struggle with SoL, and could use the practice, and I like the sound of the premise.
Glad to have you!
Hmm. Seeing as I am in need of a SoL style RP (and love fantasy/magic vibes) I might put my hat in.
To be clear, all mythilogical/fantasy species are allowed? Within reason of course.
Yep, as long as you aren't making like an omnipotent murder cube or something.
Woo! Question re: Gloo U - do we need to have a course of study?
Bit confused, not sure what you'd do there unless you had a course to study? It goes by the British University system, so no liberal arts degree or however it works in the US. Gloomminster offers all the usual + an extensive range of arcane courses.
Awesome! What kinds of magic are in this in this world? For example elemental magic, necromancy, enchanting... anything out of bounds?
Uhh nope. All on the table, just keep it reasonable. Also consider if your character is going to the university to study magic, they likely aren't a master wizard. Nor would they jave to rent such a cheap apartment if they were a master wizard of some form.
Also, just to clarify, is this whole world aware of magic existing? Or is this magical area separated from a "muggle" modern part of the world or something.
Yes, the whole world is aware. It's a reasonably commonplace thing. And fantastical creatures are pretty everyday.
Setting: Gloomminster is an ancient and baroque city of dark alleyways and hidden crevices. And at the heart of the dark city sits Gloomminster University a sprawling complex of buildings and faculties, the most prestigious of which being the Arcane faculty, which focuses on studies of the arcane and magic.
For you see, the world in which Gloomminster belongs too is much like ours, with similar cultures, nations, histories, and technologies. Except for one key difference. That being that the beings, powers, and people that we believe to be merely myths and folktales really do exist. And though some are malicious and predatory, many exist happily alongside humans in one multi-species society.
Now, a brisk five-minute walk from the heart of Gloomminster you'll find yourself in the jaunty (if rather dingy) port-side environ of West Sprontside. Though a rough area, it's not without its certain charms. For example the legendarily friendly locals, or the surprisingly good port-side view unto the Great Bentrane. Not to mention its unmatched fresh fish prices.
In an obtuse corner of West Sprontside, near the University you'll find a small bookshop, with a chipped lettering above the door reading 'Cunningham's Bookshop and Binder's. Inside you'll find a warmly lit interior, a cosey fireplace, and walls completely lined with full-to-the-brim bookcases and a great many disorganised piles of books as they spill out from the bookcases. In one corner sits a battered wooden desk, piled up with books and a single huge antique IBM cash register (with the clackety keys and all!) Behind the counter, in a threadbare wingback chair twice the size of her person, you can usually find the undersized yet still eccentric owner: Bonnie Cunningham.
Premise: Being a group of newcomers to the city of Gloomminster at the beginning of the University year, players will be fresh tenants of Bonnie Cunningham's. Living in the series of boarding rooms above her beloved bookshop. Given the low cost of the rooms, characters presumably aren't particularly cash-riddled (though that's not a hard rule, if your character is going to be wealthy, there must be a reason why they're staying in such cheap rooms in a less-than-reputable area). Also given the proximity of Cunningham's to the University, and the time of year players will likely be new students at GU (not a rule, just a suggestion).
Over the course of the RP, you will learn more about Bonnie, the Bookshop, the City, the other characters, and the University. Player interactions and relationships will be the main driving force of the RP, but I will use the city and my character (Bonnie) to help facilitate such happenings. As well as throwing in a couple of events and festivals as such-so.
Rules: Overall, use common sense. Don't be a dick. Don't post your CS straight into the characters tab without approval. Follow the site rules. All the usual. If people want to do romance, that's fine but keep it PG13 in the thread. I won't be enforcing a post-order, but if the players decide one is needed something can be worked out. If the need for a discord arises I'll make one. Until then I like to keep OOC active as it helps promote a healthy momentum. Overall the world-building is pretty flexible, and I'll be pretty flexible with who/what is accepted.
I'm no formatting wizard, so feel free to modify that base as you wish, add sections as you please, and take bits off if you really want, but those basics should all be covered in some regard in the CS.
Other than that, a floor plan of the bookshop, and possibly a city map will be up as soon as they're complete. Feel free to PM me on any issues or queries. Or anything really.
Wow, a lot of interest in a lot shorter time period than I expected! Thanks. B)
Currently working on an OOC, world-building bits and pieces, and the aforementioned land-lady. Should be up soon(-ish) if all goes according to plan.
P.S. If anyone is interested in co-GMing/talking about lore & worldbuilding please PM me. :) Also if anyone knows any good fantasy city map generators or similar please let me know, not sure how to do it atm without just heavily editing a map of oxford. ☠

M O T I V A T I O N S ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ Milo realised at a very young age that he could not help everyone that needed it. To Milo, this is an everyday tragedy. No, it is not a good thing. But he's not going to change the fundamental laws of our world.
The next thing he realised is that, despite what others tried to tell him: the world was made up of Blacks and Whites. The was no such thing as a grey area.
And with these two revelations, he shaped his worldview. Milo follows a strict code. What code is unknown to others, but it certainly doesn't stop him from committing some heinous deeds.
All in all, Milo is a self-professed capitalist, not so much in the traditional sense, but more so that the main driving factor of his decisions is the improvement of his own life. However many have reported on occasion performing seemingly out-of-character decisions and being genuinely altruistic. It's a strange sight indeed. G O A L S ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ Milo possesses multiple goals. Primarily to improve his life, no matter the cost to others. This tends to be by improving his material wealth. However, he also possesses a deep-seated moral code that he adheres to strictly. This code seems rather alien to someone with a normal moral compass, as Milo doesn't hesitate to beat, maim, or steal. However, if he thinks something is morally wrong, there's nothing you can do to make him do it. -

Milo's early childhood is marked by a series of violent acts and school changes. At an early age, he was taken from his parents by the services. He was brought up in a series of orphanages and foster homes around Birmingham, often being moved due to noticeably violent and callous behaviour.
Around the age of 13, he became involved in local gangs and organised crime rings. He quickly ascended the hierarchy due to his ruthless behaviour and ambitious nature. He also picked up an interest in martial arts during this time after being jumped badly by a group of rival drug dealers. He frequented a local boxing gym and devoted his energy to that and his quickly growing ties to Brum organised crime.
During this time his hype gene also began to manifest, though he attempted to hide it at first, he realised how much of an asset it could be. Using his ability to intimidate rivals and, if needed, assist his already honed fighting ability. However, rumors spread fast and word of his possible abilities was spread around.
Some of the criminals he worked for saw his potential though, and he continued to ascend into seniority eventually meeting his biological father: by this point a senior drug trafficker in the area, whom Milo worked for. Though the two kept a purely business relationship, the man would keep a keen eye on him until the day of his death.
On February 16th, 2023, Milo would be led into a trap of his superior's designs: his father would be murdered by his own criminal associates in a bid for power, and his death as well as multiple other drug-related offenses would be pinned on Milo, acting as the gang's scapegoat.
Milo would learn of these plans just hours before their initiation after he was informed by a close friend. He sent one last correspondence to his father, warning him of the plot, and then fled the country, without knowledge as to whether his father had survived. Using his savings from the years of criminal activity, approximately £4000. He fled to Canada on his own and sought refuge from HELP. He was shortly enrolled at PCRU, somewhat at his reluctance.
However this is his last chance, with organised crime rings after him, and likely the authorities, Milo has to stay on HELP's good side to garner their favour, lest he is booted back into the wide world seeking imprisonment for crimes he didn't (and some he did) commit.

Milo is capable of creating disembodied telekinetic copies of his arms and legs. These apparitions appear identical to the part of his body they're based on, occupy a physical area, and hence can interact with objects. The power of the telekinetic force is inversely proportional to the volume of space taken up by Milo's apparitions. The most powerful he can summon is a single fist with maximum force relative to that somewhat comparable to being hit by a small truck. The greatest quantity he can summon is a poor copy of his own body, with power slightly under his own (though this is incredibly tiring to do).
L I M I T A T I O N S ||RANGE, APPEARANCE
The apparitions can't stray further than half a meter away. They also aren't suited for illusion or trickery as they lack any level of detail over the basic shape, as well as being translucent and tinted blue. They will also disappear a few minutes after being created (depending on the scale of the apparition), when Milo loses consciousness, or upon Milo himself losing control over the power due to shock (in practice caused by pain).
W E A K N E S S E S ||COMPLEXITY, STAMINA, SKILL
Hand-to-hand fighting requires many complex decisions made in a very short amount of time. Currently, due to his lack of training with them, MIlo is very poor at properly integrating physical combat and his telekinetic powers. Though he understands the potential of it, he struggles to control his body and multiple apparitions at once effectively in a fight. Not only this but using his powers to swing around multiple more spectral limbs still drains his stamina as if he was swinging around the equivalent limbs himself.
Finally, though Milo is a fairly skilled hand-to-hand combatant, he has only trained for roughly 3 years, and although he's far better than most, he is by no means a master.

His eyes fluttered open. He did not move, he wasn't sure if he wanted whatever woke him to know he was awake. The room smelt fine. He couldn't see anything in his immediate vision. There was scraping from outside his window, on the ground. He got up, making an effort not to make a noise. As he set his foot onto the old carpet, the elderly floor underneath settled, letting off a slight squeak. He winced as he crept over to the blinds.
He peaked through separating them as little as possible. It was a groundskeeper, emptying a bin of some sort. He climbed back into bed and settled back into his fitful sleep.
Nothing in particular haunts Milo, but he is sure as hell wary of just about everything around him. Occasionally to the point of paranoia.
A D I S H E V E L E D S T R A N G E R A P P R O A C H E S Y O U A S K I N G F O R H E L P, H O W D O Y O U R E S P O N D?
A subtle squint towards the foreign figure. Followed by a stream of thoughts. What could they offer him? What did they want? If it wasn't something unreasonable, Milo would oblige mostly out of curiosity. Normally he wouldn't engage someone in genuine conversation without a good reason, but since they engaged him, it would be rude and possibly dangerous to ignore them. If he could help them likely there would either be a positive or neutral effect. And if he couldn't help, there would either be a neutral effect or a consequence that he would've likely incurred had he ignored them.
Best to step off on the right foot, in case they could help him in some manner, even just being a friendly face in the future.
"Y'aight mate? What you need brev?"
A N I N T R U D E R A L A R M H A S B E E N S E T O F F O N C A M P U S, H O W D O Y O U R E A C T?
Unsure of proper procedure, Milo sat in his seat, gazing about for confirmation of his actions from his fellow pupils. He wasn't particularly fussed as to what was going on, it most likely wasn't really his business anyway, but he sure as hell wasn't about to get into trouble for breaching protocol he was never instructed on.
Finished overall, though might considering adding on some of the optional portions. :)
