Dawkin switched to Pichu, and Mia’s eyes lit up a bit. Pichu got tickled by an eccentric chinchilla, after which Dawkin commanded Nasty Plot to fool out the Encore. Mia, though, had other plans.

‘Pound it! Do as much damage as you can!’ Mia commanded, and Minccino struck Pichu with a Pound! With Pichu’s low health and lowered already low defense, this pound struck for major damage! It wasn’t clear if Pichu could take another one of those! Static failed to activate. ‘Nice! Just so we make sure Ducklett can take it out in one shot later…!’

Dawkin switched back to Tyrunt, who immediately took a Pound… that didn’t do very much. Minccino looked up awkwardly at the sudden rock-dino that had appeared.

‘No sweat! Tickle it!’ Mia commanded, excited. It’d then become a Tickle VS Stomp battle, where Minccino started tickling the rock-dino again and again, and due to lowered Attack from Tickle it was actually taking quite a bit of Stomping to actually do damage to Minccino. Two Stomps and two Tickles later, Minccino had only taken around half health, and each next Stomp was going to be weaker.

‘Grr. You should have been afflicted by Cute Charm by now…’ Mia growled at the oblivious Tyrunt. ‘Regardless! Its defense is down! Start Pounding! You only need to do enough so Ducklett can take out the rock in one blow…!’ Mia commanded, and now Minccino was going to switch to using Pound. Weak against Rock, yes, but he’d been Tickled twice, lowering Attack and Defense.

Dawkin’s moves?

After having departed and kept a healthy distance away from the Parasol Lady, Basil turned west to head through a narrow path towards said shrine. He’d no longer need the umbrella as the road was built to curve just beyond the reach of the rain, as such he could walk on this stretch of road separating the two parts of Silent Forest.

@Savo

Chloe looked a bit surprised by the command to pick up Growlithe to attack Gastly, but after thinking it through Chloe got a wide smile.

‘Growlithe! Let yourself be picked up and Bite that Gastly!’ Chloe called excitedly and approved of the strategy. Growlithe obeyed the command and leapt to be helped by Velvet. Velvet retracted her ears, Growlithe graced on top of her, and then the ears shot out like a pair of high-power springs and Growlithe was sent flying with a howl. A stunned Gastly's eyes widened even further than normal as a fire dog with barred teeth suddenly impacted it from straight in front, doing super-effective damage.

Gastly flinched!

Mareep, meanwhile, did what it had intended to and shot a Thunder Wave at the spot where Velvet and Growlithe had previously occupied, now only attended by Velvet. The electricity hit and coursed through her body, targeting her muscles. Velvet was paralyzed!

‘Uh, you need help with that Growlithe?’ the red-haired one asked.

‘I got this, focus on the Buneary!’ the white-haired replied, confident.

Next round, Velvet started insulting Gastly on Cyril's command. But, it was a little hard to get Gastly's attention when there was a dog biting its face. Outspeeding the dog, Gastly attempted to use Hypnosis again! … But a combo of being somewhat distracted by an insult to its trainer and the fact Growlithe wouldn't stay still long enough to fall asleep, Growlithe dodged the sleepy waves and hounded in for another wicked Bite! It's Super Effective! Gastly fainted!

Mareep, meanwhile, threw a Thundershock at Velvet, who found herself somewhat damaged by the electric sheep. Mareep’s trainer was also giving a side-eye at his partner, who had said he’d have Growlithe sorted.

Now Spheal came out.

‘Haha, come on, fire-type! Crush them under your weight, Spheal!’ the white-haired one called.

This is when Cyril asked if Chloe wanted to think of a plan. She looked out over the battlefield curiously, and then she broke into a wide grin.

‘Send out Budew, we're going to need the Absorb damage!’ Chloe said, before excitedly turning to the battlefield.

‘Growlithe! Bite on Mareep, pick it up, and ram into Spheal with it!’

Growlithe proceeded to run straight to a somewhat stunned Mareep and bite into its side!

Now, Growlithe was perhaps not quite capable of picking up Mareep, but he sure could drag the panicking sheep along! Not happy to be pulled, the sheep started throwing lightning shocks. While damaging, neither that nor static was managing to paralyze the hound as it turned towards the incoming rolling round seal…!

‘Hey, don’t crush my Mareep!’ the red-haired one called.

‘Spheal! Target him from his side!’ the white-haired one commanded.

Spheal attempted to roll to hit Growlithe in the side… but Growlithe was a way faster turner than Spheal and as such managed to collide the Mareep into the rolling Spheal!

Mareep fainted!

Spheal was paralyzed by Static!

… Except, even with paralyzation, Spheal kept rolling, building power as it was coming around a tree…!

This was when Grimer was going to be sent out.

‘Yes! It worked! It’s paralyzed!’ Chloe called about her fortune with the putting Mareep in the way plan. ‘But, uh, it’s not stopping…’ she then remarked, and it was time to figure out a new plan.

Does Cyril do anything in particular?
@Rune_Alchemist

‘Hoho. A date? The nerve,’ Isabella chuckled, more amused than insulted. She then listened to the rest Claire had to say, a little glimmer in her eyes and a little smile on her lips. At the end of it, she raised her chin a little.

‘If it is battle that you seek, then there’s a lot of it that we can provide. Why, Bigfjord City on its own can keep you entertained forever, if that’s what you want. Regardless, feel free to take this as “advance payment”.’

Claire is offered 5,000 P!

She then proceeded to part-way turn around, looking over the destruction in the room. ‘The surface dwellers have become suspicious. Which is fine, we’ve already procured the results we wanted and sent them along with multiple messengers to ensure at least one of them arrives. Quite unnecessary when I, myself, carry a couple, yet the boss’ orders were absolute. Oh, well. It is time to evacuate.’

‘Claire. Do you wish to be part of an upcoming operation? … Yeah, I think you do. Come with me. We’re heading to Bigfjord City. I believe you’ll like it, there,’ she said, before handing something over.

Claire obtained Isabella’s Card!

… It’s blank. It’s a blank card.

‘Ask around for the Mammoth Squad on Steppingstone Street, ask for Onyx, and tell him Isabella sent you, and show them this card. I’d have brought you myself, but unfortunately we’re in the middle of a sensitive operation. Get out of this base before they find this base and label everyone in it as known members. You, keep in contact with her, and feel free to share your missions with her. She shows promise,’ Isabella said, looking to the “Lass” on that last part, who nodded frantically. Isabella then turned to Claire again. ‘Do you have any further questions?’

What does Claire do?

‘Alright, let’s do that, then,’ Vivia nodded, and they went over to the woman handling the Rapidashes. She was most happy to help, and with that they paid for one horse each, they each got a Rapidash which they could ride.

‘Here’s some of my best ladies for the two of you!’ the lady said as she led the two horses to them. ‘Don’t use them for battle. You’re free to explore with them until nightfall, then they’ll head back on their own. We have a partner outpost next to Raremine Town, simply drop them off there. Don’t try to take them anywhere else, they’re trained to not let you, heh. The biggest threats of Route 6 are Tauros, Bouffalant and Dodrios, all who are known to pick a fight at sight, but our Rapidashes can outspeed them all. Staraptor is a threat only if they see a Pokémon they think is a challenge, but at that point you’d probably be strong enough to fight through Route 6 on your own. Be careful of random fires, there’s three families of fire-types on the route, after all! That should be all! Have fun, you two~!’

Pokédex Entry #78 – Rapidash, the Fire Horse Pokémon. Can usually be found cantering plains or fields. It is very competitive about speed, loving to run at full speed, around 150 mph. At great speed, its flames blaze ferociously, enhancing its appearance. It only slows down to let its children catch up to it.

With that, they could get up on the saddled horses and get ready to ride.

‘Oooh, I was never much of a horse girl…’ a somewhat uncomfortable Vivia muttered as she got onto the back of the Rapidash and looked nervously ahead. ‘Okay… I’m ready.’

And then… it was just to take off. They made the command… and the Rapidash accelerated something fierce.

It is hard to understate just how fast a Rapidash is.

It was like they took off from a rocket, as the horses sprung into motion and they flew off over the vast green fields. The elegant horses somehow ran in a way that stabilized their saddles, so as to not cause massive discomfort to their riders as they galloped over the various hillsides. The wind blew in their faces as they carried on, Vivia quietly screaming over there as she held on for dear life. Swathes of Pokémon, Miltanks, Tauros, Pyroars and more were left by the wayside as the two riders and their Rapidashes ran past, some younger Tauros trying to pursue but many not even bothering due to the sheer speed of their mounts. To the north the bottom peaks of southern Mt. Chill basically flew past, and in the south the cliffs down to the ocean could provide an amazing view (if you can see), one the Rapidash was all too happy to ride close to for a scenic experience. There were some fires around, as stated, but the Rapidash expertly avoided them and carried on towards their goal. There was a blaze on the Pokémon they were riding as the speed picked up, yet there was never any risk of them being burned…

Now, if Skylar and Vivia wanted to do anything on Route 6, it was now their little oyster if they wanted to take their time. Or, if they preferred, their path through Route 6 could pass in the blink of an eye and be over all too soon.

If you want to do more here.

Route 8. In the north lies a comparatively pleasant cliffside walkway with hilly terrain and wondrous view, leading to Freecape Town.
Stalford’s Ferry. North-east, to take a ferry across Route 16 towards Witchpeak City. The only pleasant way across Route 16 is onboard a ferry, but even then…
Raremine Town. A town of miners and researchers that study what the miners find. Also a stop for those who want to travel the desert!

Otherwise, they carried on their trip throughout Route 6, finding that they passed some other people on Rapidashes heading in the opposite direction, their riders giving them a wave on the way as fellow Rapidash riders. Soon enough, they route opened up to an actual route, a road heading through eastern Route 6, heading from Raremine Town northwards. To the north was Route 8, the way to Freecape Town. To the northwest was a path to Stalford’s Ferry, the path across to the northern landmass over the waters of Route 16. Finally, to the south-east, was a rise of mountains creating a bowl around Isson’s only sandy desert, and at the mouth of the desert stood a pleasant, surprisingly green town, right on the edge where plain turned into desert…

Lotad came into the battle, intending to use its sudden dramatic speed to its advantage and win the battle! … That is, only to be faced with Lupin, who was EVEN FASTER! Lilly realized this was a problem, and switched to trying to use Bubble instead, powered-up by the rain, but it was a little late as the Sneasel’s high attack cut down on Lotad’s paltry defenses! After taking two Bubble attacks that did around half his health, Lupin took down his opponent!

After that, it was Crocus versus a Psyduck. Leech Seed met Tail Whip, and then Psyduck ran in to scratch at Crocus while being drained by the seed… and Crocus easily dealt with the water-type using Vine Whip. It wasn’t even remotely a challenge. Both Pokémon got some experience, but all-in-all, it was way too easy this time.

Basil was victorious! Basil earned 367 P!

‘Oooh, strong boy. Are you challenging gyms, by any chance? Good luck with that. I think I’ll just stay here… enjoying this delightful eternal rain… oooh, I love it…’ the Parasol Lady said, clearly having found her paradise as she turned and skipped on her way through the rain.

Well, that happened. What now?

‘Minccino, just keep your distance!’ Mia commanded, and indeed, Minccino just skipped around, never letting Atlas come close enough to Metal Claw, and so Atlas fainted due to the burn. Mia smirked as this meant the battle was once again fair. Then, Dawkin sent out Tyrunt…

‘Tsk. More rocks? Is that your theme, or something?’ Mia asked in annoyance, because that was highly effective against her. Not that Tyrunt knows any rock-type attack-moves for a while. In any case!

Tyrunt threw out Stealth Rock, spreading floating rocks into the air. They were decently easy to avoid if you were already on the field, but if you switched in… Minccino dodged around the rocks and went up to Tyrunt… and then slid around the little dinosaur, tickling him! Attack and Defense were both lowered! Then, after that, Minccino outsped Tyrunt, and…

‘Teh-heh, got you now…’ Mia said, a glimmer in her eyes… ‘Minccino, ENCORE!’ she called, and Minccino happily spread her hands. Light out of the sky, a spotlight shone down on Tyrunt, who then felt compelled to throw out another Stealth Rock! … A bunch more rocks now float around in the air! Rather uselessly! Tyrunt is trapped by the Encore!

‘Alright, Minccino, Tickle again, and then AGAIN, and then Pound!’ Mia commanded, intending to have her normal-type now overtake the rock-dragon through these tactics.

Dawkin’s response?
Oh. The time had come. Ronin smirked, despite feeling afraid. She didn't feel the slightest ready for this, but it was now or never.

First things first.

@BrokenPromise

Veronica. The time has come. Justine is summoning me.

She then maneuvered her phone. She had a list of individuals to contact.

To Su…

‘Hey, Su. The summon for Justine's attack on Mariette just arrived. The one where I’ve been forcibly recruited by Justine on her mission to kill Mariette but I’m actually trying to save Mariette from her mind-bending and such. Did you want to help?’

To Lily…

‘Hey, Lily! I’ve got a bit of a situation on my hands. I've been recruited by Justine to attack Mariette's home. But, I'm actually going there to try to save those Justine attacks. Mariette and her companions have been mind-bent, after all, they don't know they're not following Asengav willingly. I've got somewhere I can take them, if I just can get to them first. Going to be very dangerous, but I'm going to try. Would you like to help?’

Ronin got a fast, but really confusing response to. “Will get to the bottom of this”? She was going to be involved? … How? ‘Alright, I’ll see you later, then!’ Ronin responded, still confused.

@Shifter_Master

To Penny…

‘Heey, Penny! I heard a bunch of stuff about you since last time. Like, you’re not two anymore, and you’re a big deal, huh? I bet you’re going to be busy with a bunch of things. Regardless, I’d like to tell you. Justine von Visceral has given her summons. She’s going to attack Mariette Pedersen inside her Interdimensional Home, and I’ve been forcibly recruited to help her. I’m going along with it, because I want to save Mariette and her companions. See, Mariette and co are mind-bent and don’t know they’re following Asengav unwillingly. So, I’m joining Justine’s attack on Mariette to save Mariette. It’s going to be really dangerous. Um, any way I could have some kind of help, or advice, or?’

After that, Ronin considered Sakura, Mia and Connie. They were new friends, who she hadn't really had a proper heart-to-heart with yet, it didn't feel like she was fair involving them. … But eventually she opted to try, she was desperate, after all. In addition, they might get mad if she didn’t even give them the choice.

Then, uh. There was this girl she’d been told about by Amanda. She hadn’t even met her. Well. Perhaps she’d like to hand over the message for her?

@Majoras End

‘Hey, Amanda! Would you like to pass on this message to that magical dream princess, for me? It concerns Justine and the help I wanted us to get, hah,’ Ronin asked, because who even knows. Anyways. Some messages to prepare.

@AtomicNut

‘Hey, sensei! I might have found myself in a spot of trouble.’ To Sakura.

@Ponn

‘Hey Connie! Sorry about this when we’ve just gotten to know one another, but there’s a situation going down now that I’d like you and Mia to know about.’ To Connie.

Finally to this girl she’d never even met…

‘Hey, Magical Dream Princess! I'm Ronin, Magical Samurai Girl! We've never met, but regardless, I'd like to ask to ask if you'd like to help save some people?’

To those who hadn't been around at that time, the message followed like this.

‘Before you were around, there was a vampire that declared war on Penrose. She was trying to create a world without love or something like that, and quite a few girls died. A bunch of girls from Penrose banded together to assail her castle, among which was Beacon, Penny, some independants and another Horror girl called Mariette. Mariette had previously worked with Justine and was betrayed. The group managed to defeat Justine, made her fall back somewhere and peace returned to Penrose.’

‘However, Justine’s back. She’s recruited girls to help her send an attack at Mariette’s Interdimensional Home, as vengeance for her guiding the inhabitants of Penrose to her palace. I’ve been recruited. However, I’m not going with the attack to destroy Mariette. See, I happen to know that Mariette and her crew are mind-bent, they do not follow their Horror patron out of their own free will. I’m coming with Justine because I wish to save Mariette from Justine… and maybe kidnap Mariette and Eli so we can remove their mind-bending.’

‘It’s going to be exceedingly dangerous. For one, I can’t promise Justine won’t just see straight through me. For the second, I’ll be arriving with Justine’s invasion force, Mariette will most certainly use her entire arsenal to destroy the invaders, us among them. But, Justine’s companion is the only way in or out a stranger’s Interdimensional Home, mostly, so it’s my only chance. The chance of disastrous failure, death by hands of either Justine or Mariette, or just me being unable to help at all as one of them simply kills the other is, like, probably pretty high.’

‘So, my question is simply, would you like to help? Do you have any questions?’

Yupp. That’ll do. If any of them wanted to help as well, she’d give them a gathering point close to the underground garage where Justine wanted them to meet.

@twave

Finally, to Janet and Jenna…

‘Justine’s summons to attack Mariette just came. It’s going down today.’ Yupp. That’s all they needed to know. Hilde had specifically said she didn’t want to get involved, so no message to her.
@Majoras End So apparently, Ponn said it might be an issue as Violet wouldn't appreciate Amanda just handing over contact information, so could she pass on a message?

I also realize Ronin hasn't directly told Amanda what she's planning, but she's told Veronica, and I've somewhat assumed that meant she's told everyone else in Maura's group. If not, then I'll say Ronin has told that she's going to be following along with Justine's attack in order to try to save Mariette from mind-bending and she's been gathering friends. She's currently not messaging any of your characters because she's in-league with Veronica and she just assumes Veronica is going to be talking to them anyway. In addition to that Amanda was there when Justine recruited them in the first place, if anyone should ask for help or something it'd be Amanda, hah. Anyway. Yupp.

Edit: Yeah, just, tell me if I need to change anything, I posted something weird when it came to the Violet handling, heh.
@Majoras End

So, Ponn wants Ronin to contact Violet. She reasons that Ronin could have gotten her number from Amanda. Now, Ronin IS actively looking for friends, so it is possible she could have asked, don't know if this dream princess would have been the first Amanda would have thought about, buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut in any case, would that somehow work with you? :D
@hatakekuro

Basil did some training, so lets level up his Pokémon a bit. His main targets were Grass-types here, Bellsprouts and Shroomish, Shroomish in particular being annoying as damaging them with close combat attacks had a tendency to get you afflicted with status effects.

Still, some training got done, assuming he focused on Bellsprouts and the occasional Drifloon and Carnivine.

Pokédex Entry #425 – Drifloon, the Balloon Pokémon. They tend to float around aimlessly. It loves damp weather, and can express emotions by expanding or shrinking. If a child grabs one it looks harmless because they’re so light, but children that have held a Drifloon for too long sometimes vanish. Stories say these children are dragged to the afterlife.

Pokédex Entry #455 – Carnivine, the Bug Catcher Pokémon. It walks around on its tentacles in search of a tree branch where it can dangle down to lay its trap. It attracts prey with its sweet-smelling saliva, then chomps down on it when it enters its mouth. It takes a whole day to eat captured prey. Commonly found in marshes and wet forests.

Cecil grew to level 10!
Lupin grew to level 9! Lupin learned Quick Attack!
Crocus grew to level 11!
Lancer grew to level 12!

Basil found a lady in a yellow raincoat wielding a parasol in Route 3.

‘Hm? Pokémon here? I assume you’re wondering about the rarer kinds. Well, there’s the occasional Drifloon, and also sometimes there’s Carnivine… Occasionally, one can find Psyducks at the water-line of this route, that’s how I got mine. Oooh, but there was this trainer who claimed he’d found a Pinsir here! Not been able to find one myself, though.

Huh? Something causing the rain? No, it’s always raining here, it’s not being caused by anything! It’s absolutely delightful here! Makes me want to battle! Do you want to battle!?’

There’s occasionally consequences to talking to people on routes. Unlike in the certain other Pokémon worlds, though, Basil can say no.

And if he does not want to battle, what will Basil do now?

At some point when Dina was in the Overcity, doing whatever she wished, she’d suddenly have a portal open behind her first.

‘You are Dina, correct?’ Mariette asked, stepping forward out of the portal, holding a stuffed bunny between her crossed arms. A single eye inspecting Dina and the other behind an eyepatch. ‘I wish to speak to you.’

Dina’s entire body seemed to jolt, and, in a split second, jumped forward and spun in midair, her body language on all fours with her tail upwards and hairs stiff showed a clear distress, her ears equally stiff and almost hissing. She had been thinking of getting some Overcity Sky Tuna sushi, but a girl appearing out of a portal was definitely not expected.

However, after seeing that Mariette had not pursued attack, the catgirl seemed to relax, ever so slightly, however her tail was still noticeable swishing and her ears downcast. Her eyes narrowed like pinpricks boring into Mariette’s skull.

“Indeed I am, and I am loath to say this is certainly surprising. Who are you?” She said, trying her best to rein her poise back in.

Mariette winced a little at Dina’s excessive reaction, mentally preparing to defend herself. Wasn’t necessary, though. That was some display of acrobatics.

‘… I am Mariette Pedersen. I spoke to Dan about him helping me defeat a vampire. Does that clarify things?’ Mariette asked, looking curiously at the cat-girl.

“Oh, that one.” Dina said, finally assuming a normal stance. “Pretty atypical for him, for as little I know him.” She began to walk forward, her face leaning towards Mariette. “And I guess this is pretty atypical for you. To cooperate with other factions, are you not?” Dina said leaning inches away from Mariette, before retracting.

“Since this is something Lord Dan agreed, I am bound to honour your wishes.” Dina said. “Therefore, you may speak what you have to say. We seem to be in a rather nondescript location, anyway.”

Mariette shied away a little when Dina leaned in towards her, looking a bit uncomfortable with the presence. Still, she held steady until Dina leaned back.

‘I was given an item to summon Dan and his girls, and I wished to brief you as to what you’ll find upon being summoned so you’d be ready when the time came. As well as to provide you your “Key”. … You are correct, this is not what I typically do, but I had to take measures to make sure I was ready for Justine’s attack.’

Dina’s hand was raised to her chin, pondering the situation, as her tail stopped swishing and instead was loosely curled around her waist. “Vampyr” She said, before hissing. “Nasty creatures.” She paused for a second.

“You think of yourself as strong, but this vampyr has you worried.” Dina said casually. “You don’t trust people, yet need allies.” She closed a step forward. “You’re hardly the only one.” She paused. “Well, how much you tell me is up to you, still if you don’t trust allies, you won’t be able to fight as one.”

‘… Dan is far less likely to betray me than most,’ Mariette idly commented. ‘Because I take it you’re not considering betraying me, are you?’ Just checking.

“Anyone would say no to that question.” Dina conceded. “Betrayers won’t ever admit it. Although to assuage your fears, let me tell you a couple of details. I know how betrayal feels like, both in my past life and in the present. Being a victim of it should make me very reluctant to do it. The only time I could feasibly refuse to do something is if I have to protect Penny’s charges.”

Not exactly the most encouraging answer, but it’d do. Mariette took a bit of a deeper breath and then started talking.

‘Should I summon you, it will likely be because Justine has already arrived at my doorstep. I command a considerable faction of Magical Girls within a mansion inside my Interdimensional Home, who will be attempting to fight them off. I will use my portals to place my allies where I believe they will be of most use, but you may also opt to just do whatever you feel is the most effective. I am up for suggestions. My mansion will be filled with traps to combat the enemy force, inside and outside, but the “key” I will give you will make sure they will not trigger on you, so keep it on you at all times. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.’

“Hmm. Traps, huh. I guess everything helps. I sometimes supplement my Reinforcement and magical beasts with those.” Dina said, as she drew once again closer, and then tried to lean in Mariette’s ear. “For starters,are you afraid of death? How are you holding up?”

Mariette staggered back a bit, not comfortable with Dina getting so close, her muscles tensing up a bit. Still, the message was delivered, and Mariette was left wondering why that was relevant. … And Mariette found she had only one answer.

‘… I am,’ she started, breathing out. ‘I’ve never died before. I don’t want to die. Dying means failing the mission Asengav has given me. Asengav doesn’t take kindly to failure,’ she said, finding oddly enough that it was the first time she confirmed this to herself. The fact she was afraid. ‘I’m preparing as best I can to make sure I live. I don’t yet see reason to fault my efforts,’ she responded to the other question, all while squeezing Bunny tightly between her arms.

“Chernobog instead of Byelobog, huh.” Dina said, eyeing Mariette, and then whispered once more. “Makes two of us… I’m terribly afraid of death. Even if I lived for over a hundred of years before becoming a magical girl. And that Puuchu said my reincarnation was broken too.” She paused. “I will see to it that you do not die. You seem a sweet girl, beneath past your duties and face. I can tell you how painful your yoke is, as you wince mentioning your master. And yet you don’t say a word… because you are in command of others.” She said, before retracting.

“Should this ever fail, I shall personally deal with your master. And should this mansion be ruined, I shall help you find refuge in the Sanctuary.” Dina said.

Mariette was a bit stunned. She felt like Dina had somehow uncovered a side of her that she hadn’t even realized she had. Which was… perplexing. Still, was she a sweet girl? Mariette could but wonder. One thing was clear, though. The awe she now had for what had been, at first glance, simply a quirky catgirl.

‘I am… very grateful. More than I can put into words…’ Mariette said, stumbling a bit on her words.

Dina’s mouth curled up in a cat smile. “I just state what I see with my heart, not my mind or powers.” She said, her tail upwards. “It looks like you’ve been running ragged to the point of tears and helplessness once or twice. Old habits die hard, and I’ve raised several children on my own.” Dina added. “Hey, want to see a little secret of mine?”

Mariette held quiet and nodded a bit to the first parts that Dina said, then… Secret? ‘Um. Yes, I would,’ Mariette answered, getting a bit curious as to what sort of secret Dina would show her.

Dina extended her hand, for Mariette to grab. “My potential as a magical girl… is beyond normal. I was fated to be Anastasia’s aide, and the bolsheviks drove me off. Almost a leader of a country. I lived to old age, and yet… when I contracted a Puuchu, I had so much power I turned partway into a cat.” Dina admitted. “Only a few people know this. Only Dan and a few others have seen a glimpse of it. Not even Penny. Not even the late Cindy.” She paused, as she breathed.

“Hen to pan.” She said, as her appearance shifted, and lines were seen all over her. Her hair flared gold, and her eyes turned red. Her magical power seemed to diminish, but it grew odd patterns…

And her hand was still inviting.

Mariette, currently more of a child interested in the story the adult was telling, was looking at Dina with one wide eye as she told her little story and then made herself flare like that… and the hand. One part of Mariette’s mind told her it was dangerous, this might be the moment she’d be betrayed and killed if she took the hand… but she’d felt the truth in what Dina’d said before, so she dismissed the thoughts, and reached forward to take the hand, her other arm still clutching Bunny.

“This eats magic like crazy, I’m told some Cradle can do it… Dunno how I can, I guess sometimes magic defies common sense.” Dina winced, as she held Mariette close to her.

And then time stopped for the briefest moment, in a circle around Mariette and Dina.

Lightning discharges adorned metal spikes that had grown through the ground, while a fireball and a large chunk of hail orbited around Dina’s head. All in the span of a brief time stop.

“This is what will happen should someone try to lethally wound one of my allies…”Dina said, slightly out of breath due to the sudden effort. “So let’s keep it a secret, mkay?”

Mariette held her breath as she was preparing for something to happen… and then she held still as she watched the various magical destructive energies that happened during a bit of stopped time. Yeah, that was… that was scary. Mariette swallowed a bit, and nodded. ‘I will,’ Mariette confirmed with two simple words. Because she sure didn’t want to anger her now…

“Was it too scary?” Dina said, making a conscious effort to return to her normal self. “I know it was. But Dan told me to spread joy, not fear. And I like the brilliance and smiles of people in the end.” Dina said, as she tilted her head. “Now then… I believe that’s been enough of strong feelings for now.” She clapped her hands. “And I must apologize. You probably wished to be more business oriented.”

“Perhaps a tea with extra jam and sweets is in order?My treat.”

Mariette did a slight nod to that first question. She really felt that she was the child here right now. ‘Th… It’s fine. I’ve… achieved what I came for, and more. And that… sound lovely,’ Mariette said, still a bit stunned.

“Now, let us. I know a place in this very Overcity…” She said.”Oh, and one more thing?”

“Can my key be a plush of yours? you seem to have good taste in those.” She added, trying to lead the way.

‘…’ Mariette took a long look at Bunny. Of course, Dina couldn’t have Bunny, specifically, but… ‘I’ll see what I can do.’

They then went and had tea with extra jam and sweets, and it was a nice little break. Then Mariette came home and had Ronja sew together a cat-plushie that was similar to Bunny that Taihei then could make a key out of, which then could be delivered to Dina via portal. And so it was.
A group of girls, some of them monster girls, dove into a building fleeing the Ascendancy. Magic missiles and projectiles burst through the walls, but they kept trying to flee. One of them pleaded to be saved, one yelled that they had to save themselves. Then they broke into the next room… and there was a portal. A gasp went through them. They knew who it symbolised, their leader rather didn't want to depend on her but right now they had no choice.

‘Come on!’ she yelled, and she and her crew leapt through the portal just as an Ascendancy agent appeared in the doorway behind them, and the portal closed.

They lay breathing heavily on the floor, as Mariette inspected them. They were in a random apartment with sealed windows, and Mariette stood there in dark dress and clutching her Bunny. Next to her stood Eli, her wings folded, keeping a check with Third Eye, just in case. The leader of the group quickly got up, preparing her bracers for combat.

‘What do you want!?’ she demanded.

‘For you to live,’ Mariette stated, plainly. ‘I'd rather not see you die like this when your strength could be needed later. Where should I drop you off?’

‘Don't bullshit me. You want us alive because without us, they'll come after you!’ the leader claimed, glaring at Mariette. She took a moment to inspect her, those behind the leader looking more appreciative.

‘… Believe what you like,’ Mariette simply stated. She opened a portal next to her. ‘This leads to the entrance of the Sanctuary, where people like you gather to grow strong. They shouldn't be able to hunt you down, there,’ she stated.

‘The Queen is dead. It's just a matter of time before they- h-hey!’ the leader called out, for her companions just headed for the portal, looking apologetic. The leader gave a singular grunt and then headed after them, visibly not liking this. Mariette closed the portal behind them, and then sighed out.

‘Who'd have thought saving lives was such a thankless job?’ she asked the nothingness, causing Eli to giggle a little.

"Greetings, Mariette Pendersen. I see you are fighting the good fight, are you not. How...interesting." The small furry creature talked, choosing to reveal himself after having slipped in amidst the confusion.

Mariette blinked a bit, and looked over at the sudden appearance of this furry little creature, Eli peeking over from behind her as she did. Confirming who’d spoken, she turned to face him.

‘Greetings, Puchuu. To whom do I owe the pleasure?’ Mariette asked in a completely blank tone and a straight face. Now, she’d heard of Puchuus, but she didn’t keep track of which Puchuu was which.

The creature looked at Mariette, and then swished his tail thoughtfully. “My name is Umukamui… I’ve come to have some sort of freelance agreement with Beacon. Something you might be interested in… according to what information I’ve heard.”

Mariette had heard the name of Umukamui before, but not seen him herself. Then, though, she was told something she did not expect. Freelance agreement with Beacon…? ‘… I’m listening,’ Mariette said plainly, and paid attention as indicated.

“I am supposed to assist neutrals to join Beacon’s effort in stabilizing the city. However, Ascendancy and I… let’s say we have different nuances on what qualifies as neutral. There’s wiggle room. Horrors might be stretching it, but it’s not the first time.” Umukamui said as he advance. “It’s pretty simple really. Just remember those who you are selflessly saving there’s other chances… and I’m willing to compromise. In return, I can… well, let you partake in the species of carte blanche I do have with Beacon nowadays. Within limits, of course.” Umukamui tilted his head.

Mariette listened silently, staring at Umu as he laid down the explanation. But, uh. ‘“Species of carte blanche”…?’ she questioned, voice unsure. ‘… Elaborate, please,’ Mariette requested.

“Literally, as long as I say it’s okay, they will take my word for it and pry not too much.” Umukamui leaned slightly forward.

‘… Huh,’ Mariette said, looking curiously at Umu. ‘You are aware of that I’m generally considered an enemy of Beacon, are you not? They may not react too kindly if they find out who it is you’re working with.’

“Generally… but don’t they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend? I am willing to misunderstand that you are an enemy, as long as you do the same… while we pursue the same goal. I can also misunderstand that your girls are turning over a new leaf.”

‘… I see,’ Mariette stated, giving the little puffball a stare. She modestly suspected some form of trick, but she couldn’t necessarily turn down a potential chance to gain an advantage, now, could she? ‘So what will be asked of me?’

"Wetwork." Umukamui stated bluntly. "Staying clean means someone else gets the stain." He swished his tail once.

‘Heh. Fair enough,’ Mariette gave the slightest of a chuckle, nodding and then considering it. ‘I’ve not yet figured out what I desire out of this, but I’d like to give it an attempt, at the very least. It’s not too different from what I am already doing, after all. I’ll find a way I’ll profit from it.’

"It does not have to be right now. Ponder it. Being a picky eater is not something I do, and while I may decline in the future…I shall answer." The puchuu said. "Be sensible about who you tell about this".

‘At the moment, those will be none,’ Mariette answered, she had no intention of telling anyone about this even before the Puchuu’s reminder. ‘… Does this involve managing contact in some specific way? Do I need to show up at the right time somewhere, or will you give me a magic stone to contact me through?’ Mariette had been a fan of the former, others did the second pretty often.

"Magic...yeah right." A phone materialized on the girl's hands. "I made it so it is not easy to track, the battery lasts forever and you can play Destiny Great Order on it. My phone number is in there." He said, before attempting to leave.

‘… “Destiny Great Order”?’ Mariette asked, looking confused at the phone suddenly in her hand. ‘… Alright. Thank you. I’ll hear more from you later, then,’ Mariette simply said, letting the puchuu depart without issue if he wanted to.

… Huh. A connection to Beacon through a third party? … How was she going to use this to her advantage…?

Ronin winced a bit at Alex threat, but she went and kissed Lily anyway! Then Shoggy took the cupcake. No dare, huh? Well, that's fine. She probably should hang out more with Connie and Mia just because. But anyways, there was that one thing that she had to do. At some point she'd sneak in behind Faith to just whisper

‘I'm so happy you're alright,’ before sneaking off. Apparently Faith was in a disguise so shouldn't talk to her, but just couldn't wait with that one. Then off to do other stuff.
