Ezraâs gaze on Callum was akin to a hawk hunting a mouse. His gaze didnât waiver, and his expression remained polite. While the prince continued speaking, Ezra was careful to nod and smile bashfully, as if this was far too great of a request for a peasant like him. As Callum inquired about the different bakeries, Ezra was quick to answer, and point out all the different flavors he had created for them. âI greatly appreciate it.â He paused and listened as the Prince continued speaking. When he was finished, Ezra dipped his head respectfully. âNo, I do not have a busy morning. That sounds like a delightful event. Iâd appreciate the advertisement, too. We have to pay bills somehow, right?â Ezra bowed again, and lingered behind the counter to hide the deranged smirk appearing on his face. Once he straightened up, he was back to normal.
The comment regarding Anna, his angel, the love of his life, and the most precious thing in the whole world to him, made him smile; except, he was careful to make it like a schoolboy crushing on a classmate. âWow! That would be great. Thanks Prince Callum!â He gestured to the other workers who began packaging the cakes, cupcakes, and other bakeries to be taken. Ezra then glanced at Prince Callum -- perhaps he had underestimated how useful he could be to his plans. Maybe he wasn't entirely useless. It was a ticket to the Princess if he played his cards right which he intended to do. âDo you have a carriage or some other means of transportation planned?â
Drakeâs gentle approach and tone helped to immediately set Sadie at ease. She accepted the handkerchief and began to rub off any excess dirt on her dress. Glancing up, her tiara slid down and she quickly picked it up and began examining it for any filth. She wasnât sure if she found any, but with her shaking hands, she continued to inspect it. Drakeâs next comment caused her to chuckle slightly, albeit a little nervously. She didnât glance back at the women and quickly readjusted her crown as a reminder for herself. Sadie could feel glances on the back of her head and had a feeling his words had reached their table.
Without pause, Drake remained elegant and gentle. Sadie took quite deep breaths and smiled genuinely as she listened to him. His voice was a melody she couldnât listen to enough. She nodded in agreement when he told her heâd make sure the rest of the event would be good for her. Thankfully, she hadnât seemed to embarrass him. Gratitude filled her and she found herself staring at him with a silly smile on her face that she knew Genny was enjoying from her spot nearby. Before she could reply, he ushered over a waiter to give her tea. A delighted smile crept across her face as she glanced up at him.
âThat would be wonderful! Thank you!â She accepted the tea and looked around with excitement when he mentioned the pastries. While half her mind begged her not to, Sadie couldnât turn down the sugary delights. He beckoned over another waiter to provide Drake and her both samples of each pastry and sandwiches. âThank you so much! You two are the best. The BEST!â The two men chuckled and moved away to serve others and give them privacy. She began to snack on the food and despite the war waging in her mind, she sought solace with Drake.
Sadieâs attention was now diverted as he took her hand and rubbed it gently. She glanced down with surprise, a pastry halfway to her mouth before realizing how ridiculous she probably looked, and quickly set it down. Her cheeks flushed again. What did she do? Her mind raced with answers and she uncertainly glanced at them.
Then, a voice broke through their moment, and she glanced up to see the man whose female companion heâd likely tripped over. âPrincess Sadie Camille.â The man greeted with a customary bow, while taking a seat near them, but not in between them. âDrake Edwards, a pleasure seeing you again though we haven't been formally introduced. Alexander Deacon of Javaria.â
What does he want? Sadie felt his eyes focus on her and quickly moved her hands to hold them together. She smiled respectfully once heâd introduced himself, but didnât interrupt and allowed him to continue speaking. Out of the corner of her eye, her entourage watched intently.
âI do apologize if I'm intruding, but I wanted to ensure you were alright. Not just from the fall but also how rude those women were to you. You would think they would recognize your standing, and not just because you're a princess, your majesty. â
He looked upon her and her cheeks flushed once more. âIt is an honor to meet you, Sir Deacon. Iâm glad our paths have crossed.â She replied, her voice soft and kind. âI appreciate you checking in on me. I am doing fine, though so thank you. Are you and your female friend all right? As for those ladies, well, it happens sometimes.â Sadie shrugged it off, unsure of how to reply to the end of his comment. She wasnât sure if the quartet could hear or not, so she didnât want to start fights. Sadie, despite being royal, wasnât one to boast her status either so she decided not to elaborate further on it. It would be best to look forward to the rest of the day! âI do hope you enjoy your time here. Itâs great to meet people from other cities!â
It was then that Sadie noticed Mina and waved at her excitedly. Mina! Mina Bina! I haven't seen her in forever! And her uncle too! Not wanting to shout at them, she stuck to her wave and smile, then turned to face the others.
Time: Late Morning Location: Sorian Beach Interactions: @princess Charlotte â @FunnyGuy Lorenzo â @Lava Alckon Farim â Mentions: John Aesthetic: â Swimsuit â Dress â Hair & Accessories "You know," Charlotte whispered sincerely, "...It warms my heart to see you so relaxed and with a smile on your face... I want you to remember that it's going to be okay."
Olivia smiled at her and nodded gratefully, after accepting her sandwich. A warmth spread throughout her, and she quickly squeezed Charlotteâs hand gently. Liv felt similar for her friend who had a tortuous day on the 21st. She began to munch her sandwich hungrily, only stopping to glance at the screams from the water and then turning back to face the others.
Soon, Oliviaâs attention was soon stolen from the Vikenaâs. A dark skinned male with light blue eyes and long wavy hair joined them. Liv had seen many handsome individuals, but this one took the cake. She admired his features and was for a moment, lost in a trance. This must have been one of the Alidasht. She remained silent as he spoke, and her cheeks reddened once he had addressed her. She folded her arms and waited politely for her turn to speak. Lorenzo and he exchanged pleasantries first, and she glanced over at him to ensure he didnât mistake her relation. Whether it was Farim or the importance of the Duke addressing her, Olivia couldnât decipher why her stomach was churning with butterflies.
She let out a quiet sigh of relief after Lorenzo spoke, so she glanced at Charlotte next. How would she handle this, Olivia wondered, after what happened at the dinner? She tried to scoot closer to Charlotte and accidentally crushed her hand. She bit her lip to restrain herself from swearing (unlady-like, Charlotte had told her) (how disappointing!) and took deep breaths to calm herself. Releasing her hand, Livy leaned back in her chair as if nothing had happened and bit her lip to keep from cursing. She eyed the man cautiously, and hoped for the Vikena's sake, the other Alidasht did not show up. She would defend them if so, but she saw no reason to become defensive yet.
âMy name is...â she paused briefly. âOlivia. You can call me Livvy.â She began focusing on eating her sandwich and tried to ignore the butterflies and nerves inside of her. "It's a pleasure to meet you," Though she was unsure of the customary Alidasht bow, she dipped her head respectfully, hoping this would suffice. Once she brought her head back up, she glanced at Charlotte out of the corner of her eye to ask silently, if she had been correct to do that.
Time: Morning Location: Southwest of Roshmi City Interactions:@Helo Bowyn â @Lava Alckon Bardulf â @FunnyGuy Mister Luum â @Tae Brigette â @Pink Khione Zeva Mentions: Equipment: Small backpack, two knives, bow and arrow, rations, water flask, hygiene products, polearm, outfit
Rue turned to stare coldly at Mister Luum with a downcast gaze. He wasnât exactly wrong, but she wouldnât tolerate a stranger endangering their human. If she had to kill to protect the group, especially Bowyn and Bardulf, then she would. Seeing death and bloodshed had caused her to grow numb. She paused twirling her polearm to settle it beside her, then flapped her wings to gain momentum. Higher and higher she flew until she seated herself onto Starfireâs back. Instead of replying back like Bowyn had (which she admired), Rue kept her thoughts to herself and watched intently, her polearm now resting at her side.
As the conversation continued, She predicted what Mister Luum would say, so she wasnât surprised heâd invited the suspicious elf along with them. With a sigh, she watched the scenario play out, and glanced at Bowyn with irritation. As he addressed the elf girl, she chuckled lightly, despite the morbid subject. âYou may end up losing your parents and those dearest to you. Perhaps a limb. Your life?â she added, hoping it might disway her, despite her seeing Bardulf.
Speaking of which, his voice broke her reverie, and she turned to face him. Sympathy for the young human captured her heart. She reached down to put her hand on his shoulder and rubbed it comfortingly. âIâll be ready when you are, Bardulf. Like a snowflake from the sky, Iâll catch you.â Rue told him gently. His remark on moving away caused her to glance around suspiciously and ready her polearm in case of any danger. âWe need to get out of here now. Bardulf, please stay at our side.â
Now Zeva spoke up, and Rue glanced in her direction menacingly. She listened to her and glanced down at Mister Luum and Bowyn. Rue pinched the bridge of her nose. It was unlikely she would become their foe, but it would be wise to keep an eye on her, but both options irritated her. When she stumbled, Rueâs expression softened, noticing the signs of dizziness. However, Bowyn beat her to it, and she sighed in relief. Rue remained quiet and out of the conversation, and glanced around to see if anyone else had seen Bardulfâs magic.
Sadie had spent the rest of the night after the dinner party in her room. After spending the whole day with a smile on her face, she had time to unwind and be herself. Her room, though lacking its usual decor, was still comfortable for her. There, she reread her love letter over and over with a grin on her face and butterflies in her stomach. The blush on her face seemed etched into her skin. She sighed as she set it on her night stand and swiftly changed into a nightgown and pulled her hair into a braid to sleep.
Although Sadie laid retired to bed early, she was unable to shake the nagging feeling of trepidation. Her mind raced through the events of the day; Riona, Leo, Verrick, Lyra, the Alidasht and Roman, her kingdom, and anonymous suitor. Almost the entire time she had spent eating. It had been as natural as ever. She buried her face in the pillow and soon found her pillowcase was wet.
All those sweets, all the food, was still inside of her. She tossed and turned as she struggled to ignore it. What if⊠What if she had eaten too much? She thought she hadnât. It was mostly healthy. What if she gained too much weight? What if she didnât find anyone because of her size? Sadie gritted her teeth and pulled the covers over her face, hoping her guards wouldnât hear her tossing and turning.
"God, do you ever stop eating!" "Wow, you eat more than my men after training. What's wrong with you?" "You're a pig. I can't stand you. How could you eat that?" âI donât think you need anymore though, Princess.â
The hours ticked by, but Sadie was wired. Finally, after laying there for what seemed like hours, she angrily climbed out of bed and entered her bathroom. She knelt by the toilet bowl and used her foot to shut the door. As she stared down into the bowl, she promised herself this would be the last time⊠and quickly stuck her finger down her throat and upheaved. Once she was done, she climbed to her feet and then washed her face and hands. With a deep breath, she stumbled back to bed and collapsed onto her bed, continuing to stain her case with her tears.
Sadie had woken the next day ignoring her nightly activities and focusing on the new day. She ate a quick breakfast which consisted of low carb pancakes, orange juice, muffins, fruit, and a side of hash browns. Her guards looked puzzled as she ate with a vengeance, but they were used to it by now. With seemingly endless energy, she left the dining room and went to change into new attire to go to the beach and collect seashells. There, she met the most handsome and intelligent looking young man named Drake Edwards, another nobleman. Sadie enjoyed his company more than sheâd let anyone know, and had shyly tried to form an interaction with him. His hazel eyes rivaled the seaâs beauty, which Sadie listed as one of the most beautiful things sheâd seen in the world thus far. The pearl theyâd found from the oyster would soon lay in her room, ready to be made into a necklace for them. She had been cautious yet excited about the interaction, and he remained on her mind long after heâd left. They would meet the next day at the Tea Party at the castle and Sadie couldnât help but look forward to it.
The afternoon brought her to meet up with Riona. Sadieâs usual energy had doubled after the beach and seeing her friend. She had confided in Riona regarding Drake while the two of them went shopping and then out to lunch. It was then that Riona had told Sadie about the ball mishap with Lord Leo, which Sadie had been infuriated and upset about. It explained their awkward interaction at the Danrose castle. She didnât bother voicing her concerns however to the housekeeper, because their fast was nearly over. It infuriated her and knew she would never allow such a horrible act to happen in her kingdom. Regarding this, Sadie went to the housekeeper to complain, and let her know the punishment was injustice and demanded they'd be allowed to eat, and never have it happen again. After finishing her food, Sadie and Riona had gone to have their nails painted. She had paid for everything, pampered Riona, and also given her a seashell. It had been one of her favorite ones, so she was excited to give it to Riona.
Afterwards, Sadie retreated to her room. Soon she was met with her brother. They had spent time together discussing the past events. She had confided in him about the archery competition with the rude commoner, meeting the part of the Alidasht siblings, and then confided in him about her meeting with Drake at the beach. She enjoyed chatting with him and discovering how the past few nights occurred. Without the others, Sadie felt more relaxed opening up about different things. Once heâd told her about his mishaps with Thea, Sadie had frowned. The poor dear was quite unwell, and after discovering sheâd ghosted him, her temper had been close to flaring. With a sigh, Sadie ignored those emotions, and focused on hanging out with her brother and enjoying his company.
Afterwards, Sadie bid him goodnight and began working on creating jewelry and working on a new tiara for herself. Again, she stayed up late...
On Sola 23rd, Sadie was now preparing for the Tea Party. She finished getting ready and stood in front of the mirror. She adjusted her seashell crown and took a deep breath. âHow do I look?â Sadie inquired as she turned to glance at her lady-in-waiting and bodyguard, Genevieve.
âWonderful, mâlady. The seashells you collected yesterday go nicely with the ensemble.â Genny replied promptly, a smile curling her lips. Sadie dipped her head in respect and then hugged her.
âThank you Genny!â Sadie chirped, then spun in the mirror to watch her dress twirl and giggled. She stopped and readjusted her tiara and bit her lip. âIs this--are you sure that my outfit is appropriate for meeting-â
Mâlady,â Genny interrupted as she came over and fixed her dress and smoothed out her hair, âYou look dashing. Have I ever lied to you?â Sadie bit her lip and shook her head as she stared at the floor. Genny titlted her chin up to force Sadie to look in the mirror at their reflections. âYou look radiant. Now letâs go before you make yourself late.â
Soon after, the duo arrived in Sadieâs carriage to the Tea Party. Genny helped Sadie out of the carriage and nodded to the guards to follow behind her. With a deep breath and her heart fluttering, Sadie moved to greet Wystan at the entry. She paused, watching as he patted participants down and tilted her head to one side. Given the circumstances lately, it did not surprise her.
After the watchdog was finished, he took one glance at Sadie and then gave her a deep bow. âYour Royal Highness. Please, you may proceed.â
Sadie beamed at Wystan and could barely contain her excitement. âWystan!â Sadie exclaimed. She pulled him into a hug unexpectedly and swiftly let go of him after. âSo good to see you! Thank you!â The bodyguard collected himself fairly quickly, and thanked his foresight that day to ensure that his weapons were double-wrapped around his torso.
âLikewise, Your Highness. Please enjoy the gathering.â
âThank you! I will. This is a great day for an event like this; I hope you can relax after your duty to join us!â She bounced passed him with a smile on her face. She glanced back to ensure that Genny, and her guards, Eric, Holland, and Mikhail were behind her, and then continued forward.
Once inside, Sadie glanced around at the guests. She searched until she found Drake Edwards. Her smile graced her face from ear-to-ear, and the air seemed to become warmer and the sun shone brighter than it had moments earlier. Standing a distance away were Genny, and three of her guards. In the back of her mind, she could hear Genny urging her forward (âGo on, Sade, go on!â)
Sadie took a deep breath and swiftly approached him, but not without fault; she accidentally tripped on the hem of a ladyâs dress near her and crashed to the ground. The table was near a man and woman in a wheelchair whom she didnât recognize. Sadie gasped in surprise, then humiliation and pain washed over her. She quickly began clambering back to her feet as pain radiated throughout her body. Soft hands helped her up, and she knew it was Genny. A quiet fell over the party as everyone turned to glance at her. A blush crept up her face and tears were at the back of her mind, but she didnât let them fall.
âIâm so sorry!â Sadie blurted out, looking at the man and the woman in the wheelchair she had nearly toppled over. She turned to face the woman and the dress sheâd tripped on. âI apologize as well. Are you all right?â
The woman and her friends sneered at her, and the lady rolled her eyes. âWeâre fine, but I doubt your pride is.â She replied bitterly, and the ladies laughed boisterously.
Sadie bit her lip and frowned in response, but then let a smile grace her face once more. âI⊠I am okayâŠ.. Thank you. I am glad youâre well.â Sadie then marched forward and averted her gaze as she sat beside Drake, trembling slightly, and noticed from her peripheral vision, Genny glared at the woman with so much heat and force that it would have killed her if possible. Her guards even walked past them purposely and moved to stand a distance away from Sadie, but remained protectively nearby. â...Do you want me to still sit with you?â
Soon after, a familiar voice can be heard addressing the unsavory group of women. âLadies, my sincere apologies. However in consideration of all our guests I will have to remind you that this is a formal gathering and proper decorum is encouraged. Please mind your volume, thank you.â
One week ago, Violetta had been in the dark fairy facility, dreaming of being let out to terrorize Avalia. Though hunting down fairies for the experiments was fun, she was invigorated to hunt down an escaped dark fairy. Didnât this dumbass know how lucky they were? Fortunate? Loved? She couldnât understand the desire to run away. The hunt would be as exciting as would be the capture and torture. Violetta sat on a tree branch outside Riverbloom, swinging her legs and fantasizing about the possibilities. Ripped wings? Loss of fingernails and toenails? Perhaps sheâd scratch out their eyeballs so the toy would lose their ability to escape again.
She hummed to herself peacefully. Then, her attention was caught as she spotted a spider crawling down the tree passed her. A smile spread across her face as she stretched out her hand. The spider paused, turning to face her, and then hesitantly extended its front legs forward. âThere, there,â Violetta cooed to the spider as she began to pet its head gently. âYou donât have anything to worry about. I wonât hurt you.â
âYour energy is dark. Why is that?â The spider inquired as it studied her, but didnât flinch away from the soft pets. All eight of its legs were now on the palm of Violettaâs hand. The power of holding such an innocent creature only excited her. One wrong move and the spider would be toast.
âDon't worry your pretty little head.â Her tone was soft, but carried a malice behind them as she readjusted her position to rest her back against the tree trunk. The spider mustâve noticed, because it did not continue. âNow, my lovely eight-legged beauty, have you seen anything strange nearby?â
âLike what?â
Violetta stifled a sigh and dramatically rolled her eyes. âAny fairies who look⊠unusual?â
âNo. I have not. I do see many fairies here, itâs Riverbloom.â
This time, Violetta couldnât suppress a sigh and stared down with agitation at the spider. When she went to snap back, her transmission bracelet rang, causing her to jump and nearly dispel her new friend. The spider clutched onto Violettaâs fingers and wrapped itself around her. A quick glance was given to the spider to reward it for not leaving as she answered her call. Her heart race accelerated. Which one of the three would be calling her? She was giddy with anticipation. As she answered, she smiled and fixed her position to look more professional. The spider turned to watch curiously.
âGreetings, I want all missions you are actively following to be held. I have direct orders to send you both to different locations as scouts to either infiltrate or execute groups who have allegedly summoned humans. Violetta you will head to Riverbloom and Helio you will make your way to Roshmi. I will send others once I receive a successful word from either of you and if any of you see the female red or white hair dark fairies like yourself within these groups make sure they are also captured or killed. Do not fail me.â
Violetta listened intently, her eyes glued to the hologram. Her eyes widened as he spoke. Humans? HUMANS? Violetta gasped, but then remembered she had to answer, so she saluted Zalthraxis and exclaimed passionately, âYes, father!â
The spider shifted uncomfortably on her palm and stared at her. âWhat was that about?â
âDonât worry my friend!â she exclaimed giddily, and began to glance around with a malicious grin on her face, as if a human might pop out of the bushes now. âWe have some humans to hunt down! How cool is that? An actual human! I wonder what they look like? Sound like? I wonder if they like pain!â Her excitement was palpable, and Violetta could barely contain it as she giggled joyously, as if it were Christmas. âMy friend, my precious eight-legged beauty, the love of my life, have you seen anything strange nearby?â
The spider shifted once more and began to make a beeline for the tree to escape this deranged fairy. âHey! I am talking to you! I didnât dismiss you.â Letta grabbed the spider and held it by its back legs furiously as her expression morphed into downright fury. âDid I SAY you could leave? Did I tell you it was alright? Were you listening to me? Iâm not done with you!â She raised her other hand and began to engulf their area into darkness. âYou canât escape if you canât find your bearings. Now you tell me what you know about this kingdom and whatâs happened and if you saw anything strange or I will suffocate you, never to see your worthless spider friends again.â
The spider screeched as it tried fruitlessly to escape. Letta watched with amusement as it struggled and cupped her hands around it to further shroud the creature in darkness. It sank its fangs into her but she ignored the pain. Instead of shrinking away from it, Letta relished it and grinned with malice. The spider stared at her with horror when it found she was not affected by it at all. Letta began to crush her palm around it as it shrieked and screeched to escape to no avail.
âFine! Fine! Iâll tell you what I know! Stop!â The spider screeched finally, pleading for mercy.
Letta grinned as she relinquished her grip on it. âThatâs a good little spider,â she purred, her darkness ebbing away while her expression melted like cookies in milk.
âThereâs a group⊠Theyâre outside Riverbloom. Thereâs two light elves and a strange looking lady with them. They have been⊠practicing something. I donât know anything else! I was trying to find a place to spin my web and started to watch them! They werenât far from here!â
Violetta smiled maliciously and petted the spiderâs head once more. It shrank away, but froze otherwise so as not to get yelled at. She continued petting the spider as it quivered in her palm. Then, with a giggle, she declared, âYou are the BEST!â she giggled and continued, âI will reward you with your freedom!â She raised her palm to a tree branch. The spider quickly began hightailing it out of there.
Letta watched with a grin as it finally moved onto the branch and then slowly took out a dagger. Watching it intently, she waited until it began to crawl away to strike. A quick stab to the back of the spiderâs back caused it to shriek in pain and shock. âItâs time⊠To say⊠goodnight.â
Violetta cackled with joy and stood up on the branch. It had been a lullaby her parents had sung to her as an infant. She swiped the spider away from the branch and watched as it fell. âIâll miss you!â
Rejuvenated, Violetta sprang off the branch in search of these of newfound toys.
Time: Morning Location: Ezra âs Bakery Attire: Interactions:@Helo Callum Mentions:@princess Anastasia, @silverpaw Wulfric, @mantou Wystan. @Inertia Auguste After giving the Danroseâs their gifts, Ezra had appeared to leave the castle. A quick pitstop made possible by Victorie had given him the leverage he needed. The objects heâd found were so small and minor that nobody would really notice. Ezra was unable to believe how perfectly his night had gone. The trip to the castle was successful; the seeds were planted and soon the fruit of his labor would come to fruition. Afterwards, Ezra had gone home. Heâd drank and ate food heâd stolen on the way home, pulverized townsfolk who had asked him for help, and tended to his paintings. The victims hadnât been able to receive a clear look of his face; for some reason, it was disguised in fog. All in all, it had been a great evening, and Ezra had allowed himself to unwind after it. His sleep was punctured throughout the night of his beautiful princess.
The next day hadnât been a waste either. Ezra had closed his bakery to the public. This time heâd specifically begun baking and cooking once more. Heâd practiced some of his fine art as well, on a⊠willing subject. That was an understatement, but he hadnât cared. In Between baking and torturing, he had reports given to him on the whereabouts and frequency of the Danroses and their disgusting homeless watchdog. The information served him well, and heâd make use of their travel routes and habits. Of course, he already knew the princessâ, his soon-to-be-wife, but he had to track further and investigate.
The next day came quickly; Ezra had been bored waiting for it. He was in the middle of his baking once more, crafting new delicacies for the king. The bumbling food loved his bakery, but who could blame him? His shop was rising to newfound fame. He crafted all his bakery with extra care, but some of them were different from the others. Ezra was in the back when he heard a familiar voice call to him. It was then that Ezra thought heâd lost his mind. As he exited from the backroom, he found none other than the worthless son, Prince Callum, standing before him. It took Ezra a moment to collect himself and then grin, trying to hide the mischief in it as well. Behind him, some of the workers glanced over with interest, but stayed out of the way and earshot or eyesight of the prince, working hastily to fulfill their needs.
âGood morning Prince Callum. It is an honor to see you here. You can have as many cakes as you want on the house! What flavors would interest you? I can prepare a carriage for you as well if you would like.â
Olivia stared out at the ocean waves with her head in the clouds. The soft, rolling waves helped relax her, though staring out at them caused her stomach to churn. Behind her, the music played and helped convey a sense of relief in her. Had she not been who she was now, it was unlikely sheâd be here. Their family normally stayed away from large gatherings, due to the hatred her parents had for the wealthy class. Beach trips had been adorned with frustration in her youth. It had been a chore lugging their belongings to and from their home and the beach, trying to find a space away from nobles, being mocked for their poor attire, and having their belongings stolen.
Liv remembered losing her favorite stuffed animal sheâd brought everywhere; a pastel blue bunny with long floppy ears sheâd named Blueberry. The hazy memory came back to her and all she could recall was reddish hair and knew the laugh had been wicked. These experiences had given Olivia a bad taste in her mouth. On top of that, sheâd nearly drowned in the rift currents after a noble boy threw her motherâs jewelry in the ocean, claiming it had been âworthlessâ.
â...Olivia, my offer still stands,â ... "But I'd like to relax here before we embark on our mermaid adventures. Can't go without Kazumin anyhow."
Charlotteâs voice broke through her reverie and brought Olivia back down from the clouds. Whether it was the warmth of the sunshine or her new friendâs voice, Olivia was unsure. However, as she turned to face Charlotte, a smile was plastered on her face. She took a deep breath, glanced at the ocean, then turned back to her and nodded. This had been one of the few past experiences she confided to Charlotte, hoping to help bridge the gap between their lives and the understanding of who she was and was becoming.
âOffer is accepted.â She replied with a genuine smile as she sat beside Charlotte on a beach towel. âIâd love to relax here too. Can you hand me some food please?â
Unexpectedly, the food the Vikena's kept and prepared had been something Olivia started cherishing. Her appetite was nearly unstoppable, and she ate as much as she could. She had gone months without eating properly and had eaten as much as she could. With a sigh, Olivia leaned out on her palms and stretched her long legs out and grinned to herself. The clothing she wore was out of her league and had taken her time to get used to. Shopping with Charlotte had been nerve wracking at first, due to having to change her style and undergo more of a makeover; yet, Liv couldnât deny how cute the clothes looked, although she hadnât been a fan of having Charlotte pay for so much. It left a hole in her heart, something she knew sheâd have to pay forward in any way she could.
This had not been the adventure she thought sheâd have, but she was forever grateful to Charlotte, Fritz, Kazumin, and of course, Devan.
A third voice reverberated through the stairwell into the basement, the sound of light footsteps against the wood echoing in the air. Finally, a figure appeared by the doorway, her dark hair cascading down from her head and a somber expression on her face. "Hi..." She greeted softly. "If I am interrupting, I can go, but I come bearing cookies."
Persephone listened to him speaking and bit her lip. How did she reply? This was a serious situation, and on top of that, sheâd attacked Calbertâs home. The price for her head was likely to be more expensive than the Sorian castle. Before she could respond, Kazu began rambling quicker than she could react. Persephoneâs jaw dropped and her eyes widened. Her mind scrambled to respond to him. Thankfully, a third voice joined, causing her to jump and turn around with fright. Then a grin split over her face when she saw Charlotte. She smiled when the scent of cookies wafted over and then her eyes sparkled with interest.
âCharlotte! Hi!â She exclaimed joyfully. Thankful for the interruption, she stood up and gestured for her to join. âPlease, join us! Iâm so happy to see you.â Persephone then realized Charlotte hadnât seen her new look, so she playfully flipped her hair and posed charmingly. âWhat do you think? Good coverup? I was thinking - my new name should be Olivia - for the eyes,â
As expected, Kazu had a similar reaction, albeit more intense with his mind flushed with adrenaline and worry. Such that the blonde jumped in shock made worse by Percyâs own jumping prompting him to let loose a childish scream. âGah! Charlotte? Wha-whâ- His confusion amplified all the more as he witnessed Percy, who looked unsettlingly like a noble lady now taking a flattering pose on top of it. His mind well past fried now from all the going on, surprises and memories from earlier along with tiny glimpses from last night pop up as brief flashes like a cut-up film being shoved in all jumbled up.
Pushed past his breaking point which led to Kazu just letting his body go limp in a defeated manner. âWasnât there a giant rooster too? ⊠Actually never mind. Just.. just donât mind me.â Staggering to where the plate of cookies were and plumped down to tiredly munch away.
Charlotte had set the plate down for them to enjoy. She stepped toward Persephone and paused. âIâm⊠perplexed.â She confessed. This was more than simply putting on a wig. Her face was not the same, though it still held some familiarity.
âMagic.â Olivia answered and picked up a cookie. She quickly devoured it and was careful not to spread crumbs on the floor. âI didnât want to be seen near a window and ruin my cover, nor your familyâs.â She paused and considered her statements. It was bizarre but this was probably not the weirdest part of her day. âIâm sorry, I know this is a lot to process.â Her voice was softer and her expression melted like her cookie in milk.
Waiting to gulp down the mouthful of cookies before chiming in. âIt is definitely a lot, but itâs nothing new for me. Just give me a moment for my brain to cool down.â Finished with a tired goofy chuckle before grabbing another cookie to idly chew on.
Olivia glanced at him and bit her lip. She ignored him and turned back to Charlotte.
Charlotte lapsed into silence. She seemed deep in thought for a full minute, her eyes scanning the room around them. Then, she met Oliviaâs gaze. âCan I see itâŠ? With a hint of apprehension, she leaned in and elaborated in a hushed tone, as if she were uttering a forbidden word, âThe magic?â It had been mentioned enough to her today that at this point, she just honestly wanted to know for certain this concept was real.
Her eyebrows rose inquisitively. She tilted her head to one side and eyed Charlotte. Teaching her magic was risky. For one, it could cause Charlotte to become addicted to the magic. Then secondly, the after effects were concerning; Olivia was aware of how bad her sleep would be over the next few days. The effects of the entire day hadnât fully hit her yet, nor had she processed the emotions raging inside of her. However, a voice in her head, the one she battled, began to egg her on, and a grin split across her face. How nice would it be to have a magic sister, someone she could. The words left her mouth quicker than her brain could fully process them.
âSure, but later. Nothing crazy, and not around him.â Olivia replied softly, so Kazumin could not hear her. Why did I say that!
âOkay⊠How about something small? Does it hurt you to use it?â
âThat would be wise to start small. Yes, it can hurt you, and cause long term irreversible damage.â Oliva answered Charlotte honestly while she considered the prospects. âYou must be aware that all magic comes with a price. For example, my nosebleed is a result of using it.â Her voice and body language was calm and serious, unlike her goofy cowl-lick companion.
Olivia took a cookie then nibbled on it. âThe more magic you use, the more negative effects it has on you. It isnât easy, for instance,â she gestured to her face, âthis spell was painful and would only be achieved by someone with⊠intermediate skill.â
Charlotte took a step forward and began to move her head purposely, tilting and swiveling as she examined Oliviaâs face from different angles. She paused and met her eyes. âI can recognize parts of your old face when I look for them, but you certainly look like a different person. You look⊠rather beautiful actually⊠Not that you didnât before.â She thoughtfully tapped her chin. âIs it permanent?â
Olivia watched Charlotteâs movements like a hawk. Though she trusted and enjoyed her presence, she was on edge. Partially from the day, and also from the effects of the magic. The whispering in the background was hushed, but the moment Charlotte approached her, they grew louder; demanding attention, demanding the girl stay away, but Olivia ignored them. She didnât have any reason to distrust her. It was becoming apparent, albeit slowly, that she had misjudged this noblewoman. Her words drew a sly smile from Oliviaâs face. She flipped her hair behind her and struck a haughty pose to mimic the oldest Alidasht princess from the ball.
âWell duh,â she teased, âOf course Iâm beautiful,â A giggle escaped her. She then nodded in response to her question. âPermanent and quite painful, and not something I wish to do a second time.â
A sudden scoff rang out into the room and it sounded suspiciously annoyed only to be immediately followed by a heavy chomp into a cookie. âTchâŠPercy was already beautiful.â He scowled with a dismissive wave of his free left hand aimed at no one in particular. âI donât know anything about this magic nonsense, but it feels like it's going to make yâall dependent on it. If you ask me, Iâd say to chuck that book in a fire and be done with it.â Pointing at both of them in turn with both his pointer finger and a half-eaten cookie that he then took another big chunk out of.
Her gaze moved to Kazumin. She grinned and ruffled his hair in appreciation of his compliment and ignored his warning. Little late for that one, dear Kazu, but not that you would know. Instead she turned away so he wouldnât see the guilt in her eyes.
âMy cousin agreed to tell anyone who asks that Percy is a family friend who was sent here with him.â Charlotte turned to Kazumin as she informed him. âSo if she looks different now, she can simply start a new life without worry. From what I understand, sheâs had a rough ordeal, so maybe I can help her here a bit and of course you too, Kazumin. Anything I can do, I am here to help.â
Olivia stared at Charlotte. A warmth spread through her, as if she were sitting in front of a fire at home after a long day of farmerâs work. She stared at Charlotte as if she were looking at her with new glasses and dissecting her appearance. Olivia wanted to speak, but the words fell short in her mouth. The length they were going to protect her was more than she couldâve ever wished. She would have never asked them for this, and she realized in that moment, that this would become a friendship sheâd cherish. Her vision blurred and she realized there were tears forming in her eyes. Before she could respond, Kazumin interrupted rather⊠dramatically.
âStart a new... WaitâŠ.â Charlotte's words filled his mind still buzzing broken and fragmented thoughts and memories trying to piece itself together. Her words unintentionally triggered the on-growing panic that had been festering just beneath the surface. His new friend seemed to still be speaking, but whatever she was saying fell on deaf ears (no pun intended) for the words start a new life had drowned out everything and from it a horrifying misunderstood reality. Next thing anyone knew, Kazumin had jumped to his feet, nearly stumbling forward in his haste.
His sudden movements caused her to flinch and tense up. Whether it was the magic or the day, it was unknown. Either way, she looked ready to flee at the next provocation. Instead of action, he instead began to misunderstand the situation. âKazu-â
The cowlicked blonde took tentative steps forward with tears welling up anew on his panic stricken face. âNo one told me about her new life! YouâŠyouâre gonna live some...some new life with this.. This cousin of Char?!â His breathing grew haggard and worsened as so too did his panic now being infused with fear.
âKazumin-â She interrupted and waved her hands. âWait-â But the farmer boy continued on, drowning out her words. The voices grew louder, and her pupils dilated while struggling to remain calm. You are misunderstanding the situation and I do not have the energy for this. Please be quiet.
âY-you canât! Please d-donât leave.â His words came out in shaky, choked sobs; signs of Kazu trying to hold himself together, but the shaking and panic became more evident with every second. His hands reached to grab hold and cling onto whatever the closest part of Percyâs dress was. "PleaseâŠI-Iâm sorry. Iâll stop causing you trouble.. Just donât... Donât leave me alone.â For the first time, Kazu let his vulnerability out; a side that only his family and Percy knew. His fear of being abandoned is overwhelming.
Her eyes widened at the outburst and she bit back a groan. Despite how close she was with him, his dramaticness was wearing on her. Biting back a washpish retort, she took several deep breaths. Fortunately, Charlotte intervened more patiently, and Oliviaâs gratitude rose. This gave her the time to simmer down and push aside the negative aspects of the magic slowly consuming her.
Charlotteâs expression fell apart. She took a deep breath as she listened to his words and considered how to best fix the misunderstanding. Her extreme weariness was ever evident.
Finally, she moved forward purposely and began to assure him. âKazuminâŠI didn't mean it like that. I was not suggesting that Percy should leave with my cousin, I just meant that we can utilize it as a cover story if anyone asked where âOliviaâ came from. Thereâs no reason to separate you two.â She then moved forward and gently took his hand and then Percyâs. â...We could maybe all be friends.â She gave them both a smile.
With a deep breath, her voice came out relaxing. âKazumin. She is right. Weâre all going to stay together. People are going to wonder who I am and where I came from. Itâs not a stretch for Calbert to think I came here and I am disguised. This identity is my coverup so I can remain alive and unwanted. Calbert will not let go of the crime I committed today.â The end of her sentence came out bitter.
Instead of letting it increase, she placed a hand on his shoulder gently and smiled at him comfortingly. âAs Ms. Charlotte here proposed we can all be friends.â She caught Charlotteâs smile and returned it, then pulled Kazumin into a firm hug. âYou can't get rid of me that easily, duh.â
Kazumin could do nothing but sit there on his knees, his previously panic stricken and tear streaked face now blank. How was one to react after allowing the ladies to explain. For as happy as he was that Percy wasnât leaving after all or the warmth of their comfort, but the semi-tired blonde found himself feeling immensely embarrassed due to his jumping to assumptions so quickly.â âŠFriendsâŠrightâŠâ His words came out hollow as he just stood there staring into space past his friendâs shoulder wishing nothing more than to disappear right now though it was not the crying and more so stupidity and shame he just put him through.
Charlotte picked up on his change in demeanor and frowned. Though she wasnât certain of his particular thought process or what could aid him best, she still wanted to show him comfort. She knelt down to level with him. âIâm so sorry I made you so upset⊠Youâre lucky to have each other. I am truly moved by how much you care about her. Itâs rare to find a bond like you two have⊠I also understand how painful the idea of losing those close to you can feel.â
Olivia nodded in agreement and pulled Kazumin to his feet. She wrapped an arm around his shoulder and grinned at him mischievously. âAs if you could get rid of me that easily!â she exclaimed and ruffled his hair. Then her gaze fell on Charlotte and her expression softened. âThank you for understanding. I do hope we all become that close too. You have a great heart and mind, Charlotte. You deserve the world.â
Their words were certainly comforting though unintentionally added to his embarrassment. Being treated like a little child in need of comfort over his reckless assumptions along with earlier incidents before passing out; all of it humiliating. Then Percy went and added further fuel by ruffling his hair. (her usual smirk coming off creepy with her make-up adorn face appearing foreign) There was a limit of humiliation a person could take and Kazu had endured twice that, Percyâs little brother treatment inflating it all the more. What could the exhausted and exasperated farmer do but cover his face beneath his hands where a muffled long drawled out groan could be heard as he screamed into his palms needing some form of outlet.
Charlotte cringed at the sudden scream. She looked at Persephone, signaling her with a head shake and hand wave to back off. âSorry. I will give you your space.â She quietly said to Kazumin and rose to her feet. Then, she turned to face Persephone. âWell if you are going to look the part of Olivia the noblewoman, weâll have to take you shopping. For now, tomorrow youâre welcome to borrow some of my clothes and Kazumin is welcome to use my costume trunk if he wants to lay low as well.â
Olivia jumped at the unexpected yell and tensed up. She frowned and moved away from him. Due to being on edge already, her nerves were already heightened. With a scowl, Olivia decided it was best to focus on Charlotte until he recovered. She smiled at Charlotteâs words and took her hands gently. âThat would be great, thank you so much. I will pay you back some day. I promise.â Olivia squeezed her hands and let go.
âActing noble at first will be strange for me, but Iâll get the hang of it. I grew up being a farmer and seamstress my whole life.â She sat down and looked up at Charlotte with a radiant smile. âYou are a great person, Charlotte. You have a kind heart.â
âAh yes it may be, however, I did attend charm school. I have a plethora of knowledge for you two⊠Luckily, youâre a hard worker and will learn in no time.â Charlotte explained to Persephone. âNo need for a compliment. My father had always advised me as a child that kindness should be the baseline standard in our interactions with others.â
Being given the chance to have a moment to vent some of his pent up frustration that had been building from the events of the past few days. While he still had plenty to air out., for now he was relieved and content enough to finally function and think. With one last small groan, Kazu peeled his hands from his face letting loose a big huff of air. âOkay, fine fine, Iâm cool. Iâm fine.â He said in a calm tone as he slid his right hand through his hair, smoothing it out with a relax sigh.
âYeah..cool as a cucumber." He followed this up with a double thumbs up to the ladies with his usual grin. âSorry about that, ignore my being stupid. AhemâŠso⊠guess a lot has happened since Iâve been⊠out of it, so to speak.ââ Kazu stated, with an awkward chuckle while nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
Time: Morning Location: Southwest of Roshmi City Interactions:@Helo Bowyn â @Lava Alckon Bardulf â @FunnyGuy Mister Luum â @Tae Brigette â @Pink Khione Zeva Mentions: Equipment: Small backpack, two knives, rations, water flask, hygiene products, polearm, outfit
Rue relaxed when Bowyn wrapped his arms around her shoulders. She melted into his body and rested her head against his shoulder. âShe seems young,â Rue offered her response to Bowynâs commentary. âTime will tell.â She did not want to immediately discount the elf because of strength in numbers, but her anxiety over Bardulfâs identity hindered her ability to empathize with the elf. Rue had sympathy, yes, because she was clearly young and naive, which Rue noted by her rambling.
She sighed in distress and glanced towards Bardulf. He seemed stuck in his own head and then randomly yelled out. In reaction, lightning struck the ground in front of him and crackled off his body. Rue jumped a foot and moved behind Bowyn out of fear. Starfire whinnied and moved away from the human and over to the two fairies, deciding to protect them in case of any further danger.
âWhy did he do that?â Her Pegasus glanced at her with annoyance and ruffled her wings.
âIt seems he was triggered by something.â Rue replied as she patted Starfire's neck and soothed her until she relaxed. Last thing they needed next was a pissed off Pegasus.
Rue inhaled and collected herself after a moment. Then, she moved over to Bardulf and embraced him into a tight hug. âPlease calm yourself. I understand it was an accident, however if you do this in front of the wrong Avalian, weâll be in trouble; and your life is too important. We can talk about this once we find suitable shelter. I'm here for you.â Rue let go of him and squeezed his hand.
A quick glance toward the new elf told her it was noticed by her as well. She shot the new elf a cold and wicked glance, one that promised vengeance if she dared speak out about their human. She held onto her polearm loosely, but looked ready to strike if needed. âYou will not speak about this to anyone.â Rue told her firmly and twirled her weapon effortlessly in her hand. It was evident that while she was sweet and compassionate, Rue would not hesitate to protect the group, but especially Bowyn and Bardulf.
