Hobgoblin Gird
a peaceful view >> Early bird /// Day 2 // Night > Morning

Gird had spent the night watching the stars, he had done this before and realized that he could make out some patterns in them. Some patterns could even be made out to look like some of the animals or parts of them. One pattern that looked to him like the horn from the rabbits was out towards the west and the cave they started from. He could make out something that could be interpreted as a wolf from the east. Another pattern that he could make out was what looked like a tree with its branches pointing toward the horizon in the south. The last thing he could make out was an eye with a red star in the middle towards the north.

The thought made him shiver as it reminded him of the legendary beast from earlier. Gird spent a little more time watching the tree line and occasionally could see a predator or two lurking in the shadows. It was very likely that they had followed their scent but didn’t want to push too much closer towards them, safety in numbers maybe. The hobgoblin was quick to find a comfortable spot out of the slight breeze and fell asleep.

================================ the next day ==========================

Gird woke up with a yawn and a stretch as the morning sun warmed his skin. At first he thought it might be a bit hazy but soon realized that his far sighted days were over until he found something to counter his night vision. O well can’t have everything. The hobgoblin made his way down from his perch and sought out the meat he had buried the other day. By its smell he knew it had gone bad once he dug it up. The ground must have sped up the decomposition process or maybe it was because he buried the bats with their skin and insides.

The taste of the meat made him grimace but he forced it down. With a slightly upset stomach he stretched some more and headed out towards the front of the church. He could hear a few others beginning to stir inside and was happy to see his friend outside. “Sleep well? The stars are brilliant at night with this new eye sight but a bit hazy during the day.” He commented and looked around. Wanting to get an early start he looked to Luz and spoke, “so where do you want to head off to today? You said something about the snakes to the south right?”

Summary: @Jangel13Gird slept outside and found shapes in the stars. Could see movement at the tree line but it didn’t push up to the church. Woke up and ate the bat meat that had gone bad from what he buried the day before. Found @demonspade64Luz and is now wondering where she wants to go.

Victor Astorio

Victor sat back and listened to the others. Honestly he only knew a few things about how the radio worked and a bit more about how to talk on one, but was mostly in this class to learn about the cellular device in his hand and what this internet email is all about. The only other thing he was interested in is how they used spiders in the computer and how they used a web spanning the world without it being seen. A sticky situation for sure, at least he liked spiders.

The professor handed all of the student’s radios and had them split up away from each other. Benjamin spoke first with Amaris right behind him, the others in their group seemed hesitant to speak into the strange contraption. The awkwardness in how they looked and handled the thing made him smile. Even if he was the one to be awkward with it he would still find it funny.

He could hear the jumbled mess of the other group and sighed. He brought the radio up stopping a few inches from his face and pressed the talk button. “Victor to Benjamin, be sure to keep the radio an inch or two away from your face when you speak, how copy? Over.” his smile didn’t fade but he tried to trip the other count up with the radio procedures he has used before when working with the council.
Merik Roak

Hidden in the war room deep in a snoring slumber rested the lizard man. It seemed like nothing would rouse the oaf, not the priestess, nor the dark elf when she spoke to them just the rise and fall of his chest and his snoring like something from a great beast. However the commotion a little later did make him stir from his slumber long enough for the lizard to roll over and fall back asleep now that he was more comfortable. It would seem his tail, a seemingly mundane part of the beast, would be the one to betray him.

As Merik slumbered in the war room dreaming of rolling in fields of bright flowers, his long muscular tail moved back and forth betraying the fun he was dreaming of. Chasing rabbits and small children through the bright warm field and being able to play without worry brought him joy. So much so that his tail finally caught a leg of a nearby book shelf causing the shelf and its contents to cascade down and make a mess of the war room.

With the sudden assault of books he was almost immediately up on his feet in the middle of the room ready to fight. For a moment he was confused, normally it’s just the elder magic man that attacked him with books. Merik could only look at the mess he made with annoyance once he realized he wasn’t being attacked and just broke something in his sleep again. The echo of the elder telling him why he can’t sleep inside small rooms rolled through his mind for a moment.

As he thought of something to do he soon began to hear a commotion within the keep. It did take him a moment to pick up on what was going on in the rooms above and below him. His animal like hearing slowly adjusting after waking up. The giant slowly opened the door and crept out into the hall. There were many sounds and smells in the hall. The sounds were much clearer now, an attack of some kind was all he could piece together. Something about “intruders” and “find them.

One thing this lizard knew about was that mammal’s had a lot to do with smell, from sweat, to blood, to perfume, and excrement. This hall way was filled with many things but most were faint. Nostrils flared the lizard began to take in the smell of his surroundings. A faint smell of flowers, he noticed the guards liked using it when they haven’t bathed for some time and it smelled like some of the flowers he smelled on the way to this city. The faint smell of the sewers and battle lingered but was not strong.

Yet there was one scent that lingered that he only somewhat recognized. Fresh sweat with a heavy but subtle scent of something he couldn’t make out combined with subtle smells of the forest. Strange the only ones that should have been in the forest where…. “Orcs.” The word slipped from his maw with a low growl. Returning to all fours he quickly followed the scent towards the outside of the keep. He didn’t take his weapons or armor just his loincloth and the prince’s sigil that he used as a sort of belt buckle.

The trail although unique was difficult to follow that combined with the chaos of the celebration and call to arms made his progress a bit slow. On top of that he broke his concentration when he got to the keeps wall when a loud boom came from the inside of the keep. Merik turned toward the source for a moment but then continued. He brushed off the occurrence as the elder messing up one of his spells and continued his trek. It wasn’t until he was close to one of the barracks did the scent really start to pick up but only for a moment. Whoever it was, had slowed down and now the scent was getting mixed in with the rest of the guards and soldiers.

Then he lost it, he couldn’t pick up on the subtle smell with everyone else around. He stood puzzled for a moment before he heard a familiar voice. His wrestling friend was nearby, the gruff voice of the large lycan was hard to mistake and he sounded upset. Within a few quick steps Merik found himself standing behind two cloaked humanoids and one unhinged looking lycan. The one closest to him was still just outside of his reach but Manald was already holding one.

Tilting his head to the side for a moment he soon found the scent once more. The strange scent still eluded him but these were definitely who he had been following. His instincts told him to kill but he knew he would get in trouble for it. Instead Merik bore his sharp teeth towards them and lunged at the one closest to him. The man was more than a few steps away from his friend but he was sure that he could reach him with this lunge and not worry about knocking his friend down. His aim was to subdue and injure but not to kill.
gird is sleeping on the roof to watch the stars tonight... so im just waiting for the skip

A short mention of the other nobles in the room then quickly moved on with the lesson. It was something he enjoyed about this professor, quick to the point with a little bit of flamboyance to get the point across. She quickly went over a few quick things Email, Cell Phones, and Walky Talkie. He was somewhat familiar with the last one as they used them on the council but cell phones were hard to understand and the Email was a strange realm of trickery.

The other’s in the class mostly seemed to be equally confused or intrigued by what was being explained with the hand held’s. Honestly he wasn’t too keen on the inner workings of it. It was always, “we are on this channel.” Or “hold the talk key down for a second before talking.” Half the time the dam things would only work within a few kilometers of each other.

Benjamin seemed to find the name funny by the not so subtle snort and smile. At least he wasn’t so stone faced all the time. Glancing to Amaris he could tell that she was thinking very hard about the subject given the face she was making with the explanation given.

“It seems so open for a private communication device. What sort of occasion was it designed for?”

The question finally came up when the teacher finished her explanation. “Huh, that is a good question… what did they tell him when he had to use them.” he thought for a moment before adding to the discussion.

“Short ranged interpersonal communication. We use them during oper… uh Jobs with the council occasionally.”

Pulling the brick of a cell phone out of his pocket with a shrug. The phone’s screen and case were cracked in several places but the device was top of the line for simplicity and endurance. Even with these specs, it still looked damaged and worn.

“I just want to know how to use this… I’m not even sure where to start with the Email.”

Jostling his phone around even as he did made one of the buttons fall off. This was enough for victor to look at the device like it betrayed him. “So much for endurance with it being a week old.” he whispered, a frown showing on his face.

At the very least he now had some time to think about what he was going to talk to the princess about after classes today. Victor wasn’t sure how or what he would say, would it be safe for him to tell her everything or be safe. Should he completely come clean it could be dangerous for leaf if he weren’t careful. The issue remained that he lacked the resources to investigate this further, effectively he had hit a roadblock.

These thoughts rolled through the counts mind while he got ready for class. He didn’t talk much to Salem only mentioning a change to his training schedule due to winter hours. Victor didn’t want his mage staying up later to try and catch more time in the sun while until he was used to his new classes. He also mentioned wanting to go over code phrases with him later while he was walking out the door. This didn’t leave much room for discussion.

Victor made his way to his first class of the day, an intro to tech class. Salem said it would be fun but he highly doubted that. Maybe this would make him more self sufficient in this new age and he wouldn’t have to keep breaking his phone or having the boy do it for him. None of this sounded fun to him he was glad he could get this out of the way first and enjoy his other classes.

He seemed to arrive at the class a bit after most of the others, but a few were still trickling in. he was wearing his normal loose-fitting clothes, but this time went with a more forest green pallet accompanied with a light jacket. It wasn’t normally something he would wear but it was still something one would expect some one who works for the council to wear. More akin to a field agent than anything.

Finding a spot towards the middle of the class with the small note book he kept in his pocket and a pen that he sat on the desk. He had brought his cell phone with him as well incase he needed it but it was off. He wasn’t sure if there was assigned seating like there was in other classes for the nobles, but he didn’t like sitting up there anyways. The teacher soon found her way in and started the class. This Dame Patel, he didn’t really have any opinions on her. Really, he hadn’t sat down and talked with her at length, she just came off as very energetic and that never really mixed well with him anyways.
Hobgoblin Gird
Time to go home. >> a peaceful view /// Day 0 // Evening > Night

Darkness soon engulfed the world once more, the encounter of the mountain beast definitely shook his spirit. He was after all just looking to see the darn thing but he didn’t expect to see it or for it to see him. That kind of power could only belong to a king, a mountain king that’s possibly as strong as the mountains themselves. Still the fact remained, if something could get that powerful, in time he could also get the power. It was nice to be able to rely on Luz to help him with this as well.

The church was rather empty and it didn’t seem like many of the others had returned, perhaps they were going to spend the first night outside like they did. It seemed like it had been years since they first slept outside or cleared out the skeletons of this place. Gird was quick to seek out the elder goblin and give him one of the three bats he had left over. “We were able to get more than a few of the bats to the north. We also found that legendary beast, that mountain king. It is… powerful.” The hobgoblin trailed off but didn’t say more.

Gird looked to Luz and nodded, “I’ll see you in the morning.” Gird didn’t feel like the weather was going to change for the worst so he found a spot around the back of the church and buried the last two bat’s he had kept with him deep into the ground. He was tired and didn’t feel like talking much. Instead Gird would attempt to use his claws to find a spot to climb up on top of the church.

Finding his perch on the top of the church where he didn’t have to worry about falling off. Gird didn’t know why but he felt a peace inside him as he gazed out across the dark forest now that he could see but found himself gazing up at the many bright stars in the dark sky. With a deep breath the hobgoblin dug his claw into his arm until it bled. With a wince he traced out his claws and fingers down to his wrists, the red blood a grim contrast against his pale skin.

“My goddess Duvelna, I call to you. I hope you find my offerings to be enough for today. We came across something today, something that froze me in my place, its sheer primal power was awe inspiring. So I ask you what can we do, where can we go. To find strength like that. Strength that would allow us to protect our tribe, power to bring your influence to the rest of this realm. All so in the end we could be seen as worthy to be called your followers.”

Following his prayer, Gird would find a comfortable spot to rest for the night on the church.

Summary: @Jangel13@demonspade64Gird entered the church and gave a bat to the elder goblin, he told him of their catch and what they saw on the mountain but didn’t wait for a reply. He then left and buried the other two bats near the back of the church and climbed to the top of it using his sharp claws. He finished the night with a prayer to the goddess and then began star gazing before beginning to fall asleep.

// Unggoy Ultra // Demolitions and Artillery // Location: Enemy Stronghold

The fighting slowly subsided as the rest of the rebels were slaughtered or ran through another fortified door. The other fighters seemed to be ok or at least not seriously injured. Grik was watching around the room as Vael seemed to check a crate but judging by the growl it wasn’t what we were looking for. Once the order to retreat was given the grunt was quick to fall back to the door they entered and checked his ammunition. He still had one explosive charge, 2 grenades, one and a half magazines for the cannon but both his pistols were below half.

“Will need to rearm soon but Grik is ready to regroup with other team.” He called out then with his plasma pistol in one hand and the reignited jackal shield in the other, the grunt began to make his way back to where the two groups split up in the first place. The Unggoy was still aware that the enemy could be waiting around any corner but by the sound of fighting down the hall he knew the other team was still fighting.
