And their collective time in costume comprises less than one minute of the whole movie. Not to mention Madame Web was already played to perfection by Stan Lee’s WIFE in the 90’s.
@Morgannis A good first entry. One thing I want to point out, Rift Warriors is a LONG running franchise in this universe. For references sake, think of it like Mortal Kombat or Pokémon in this universe. Most people who were there for the very first game are going to be a bit on the older side.
Other than that, individual moves are fine. However what I meant was the characters in the game are granted unique “super powers” that their move sets are based around. For example, Capt. Wickham could become the sea herself and can summon creatures, weapons, and “drowned sailors” from her body to attack.
Hello, travelers and welcome to The Rift! Rift Warriors is an isekai (other world) story about a group of gamers who find themselves sucked into a fighting game and are transformed into the fighters they play as. You can find the basic plot summary and world information down below. I've also attached a character sheet to the bottom of this post so you can apply and start making characters right away! Can't wait to get this started!
The Story
The year is 2045, and legendary video game developer Ryuichi Masada is set to announce his latest project. The world loses it's mind when he reveals Rift Warriors X - the latest entry in his trademark fighting game series Rift Warriors - only to be stunned in shock when Masada decalres that X will not only be the final entry in the series, but he's only produced FIVE copies of the game which will be distributed to the top five Rift Warriors IX players worldwide in a few months time. What followed was a mad dash by players across the globe to climb the competitive ladder in the hopes of reaching the top five and becoming a candidate for earning this new game.
When the digital dust settled, the five players were recognized and each received a copy of Rift Warriors X. However, when they started up the game, they discovered there were no fighters, only blank slates on the character selection screen. Suddenly, each of the players are sucked into their respective gaming consoles and wake up only to find themselves in the world of Rift Warriors! Somehow, the players have been turned into the five characters they mained when they battled in the ranks to win their copies of X. What has caused this to occur? How will they escape? What is the secret of Rift Warriors X? Apply to join and find out!
Rift Warriors
Ever wonder what it would be like if various characters from across history could battle it out? Well that's what Ryuichi Masada dreamed about ever since he was in grade school. Upon graduating and joining up with a fledgling game company, Okami Sun Games, Masada created the first ever Rift Warriors game. Rift Warriors was a beat'em-up fighting game where fictional characters from across time were sucked into a pocket dimension known only as The Rift. When inside, they were tasked by a strange Entity known as "The Messenger" to battle against the other summoned warriors and earn their way home. To make things more 'interesting' The Messenger granted each warrior summoned a unique set of superhuman abilities depending on the era in which they were summoned and attuned to their unique characteristics.
With each passing sequel, more warriors would find themselves being dragged into The Rift. As the series went on, the lore behind The world of The Rift as well as the enigmatic Messenger would grow as well. However, the lore that was revealed was rarely - if ever - enough to explain the plot of the games, often leaving FNAF-sized debates going on in various internet forums. With the announcement of Rift Warriors X, Masada claimed that "all will be revealed" which led many to believe this would be the game that finally gave a clear answer as to what the real story of Rift Warriors actually was. That made the limited release and subsequent competition all the more surprising when it happened.
Requirements for Players
So for this rp you will be making two characters. The first will be your character. This is the player who became one of the top 5 Right Warriors IX players in the real world. In addition, you will be making a secind character who will serve as your player's 'main' in the game world. This character can be from any point in human history, and will have unique abilities based on their time period. (For example, a viking character may have the ability to manipulate ice and snow, or a Cold-War Russian soldier could manifest nuclear bombs or weaponize radiation). Ideally, the Rift Warriors character would be a fictional person from whatever time period you choose, BUT I'm open to the possibility of non-human characters so long as you check with me first before submitting it. Outside of that, you are free to develop the character's backstory and powers as much as you wish. Just don't make them overly broken or the players would be screaming at the devs for not fixing an unbalanced character.
As for posts, I'd ideally like at least two paragraphs per post on this one to keep the story moving since this one is going to be exposition heavy at the start, but that's just a guideline. With that being said, the character sheet outline is posted below. Let's have some fun, and I'll see you in The Rift!
Player Name:
Faceclaim: If applicable
Nationality: What country are they from?
World Ranking: Where did your character finish on the world rankings for RW IX?
Age: Self Explanatory
Personality: What is your character like?
Backstory: Tell us a bit about your player? How did he/she get into playing Rift Warriors? Who is their main? How did they react to the Right Warriors X announcement?
Rift Warrior Character: Who is your character's main in Rift Warriors?
Rift Warrior Faceclaim: If Applicable
Debut: What game did this character first appear it? (mostly for flavor, but have some fun with it ;)
Rift Warrior Backstory: Be as detailed as you like about this, but this is a simple origin for who the Rift Warrior was, and how they were pulled into the Rift
Right Warrior Powers: What powers did the Rift Warrior receive from The Messenger?
Other: You can leave this blank if you want, but this is just a slot for any 'extra' info that doesn't fit in the above categories (Like, Dislikes, Quirks, etc.)
@Crimson Flame That’s up to player choice. Most of you would be starting your workday, waking up, etc.
@rabidbacon 1. I’m gonna leave this up to players as well. Katherine is doing performance reviews today so it’s an excuse for her to check all departments anyway.
2. Most of the departments are “fronts” in this case. They’re given normal sounding names, but you’ll spend most of your time doing the magical side of things. You would only do the “other” stuff when you’re trying to cover in the outside world.
3. The wards are meant to be a precaution for that. They block “dark magic” and unauthorized personal from accessing the building without permission.
It took all of Katherine's restraint to not punch the alarm clock blaring on her nightstand. After a glorious two day weekend (with no monster attacks!) it was time for her to return to the Magicorp offices. She'd been particularly dreading this day because it was going to be time for the yearly performance reviews. While she normally relished the thought of going through the departments and finding every single thing that could be improved upon, the last year had been particularly brutal for the witches and wizards. The lycan outbreak in southern Italy alone was catastrophic for the three teams sent to manage the situation. There were going to be a LOT of new hires running around which of course meant she was going to be slammed with that much more paperwork.
"Ugh... I was having such a lovely dream too," Katherine muttered as she pulled herself from the bed and began her morning routine. Stepping into her kitchen, she began by preparing her coffee while planning her morning attack for the review. "Probably best to start with the HR Department. If I send everyone down there, we might get an early lead on where other groups may be falling short." One too many mornings by herself had lead the witch to hold entire conversations with herself. "I'll need to speak with Stella as well. Merlin knows I'll need her on my side if we're to get Cam to do anything this month. Then there's the new girl in sales. Lydia? Why would we bring Demon spawn into the company? That's just asking for trouble..."
Once the coffee was brewing she returned to her bedroom and pulled her work attire out of the closet. She quickly dressed before turning to look at herself in the mirror. The gray hairs and bags under her eyes seemed to get more noticeable with each passing day. With a sigh, she muttered an illusion incantation and traced her glowing fingers over the blemishes. In an instant, it looked as through her face was aging backwards. If one looked closely however, they could see the glimmer of Kath's true features just underneath the illusory skin.
"Another day... Another illusion," said the lady with a sigh as she slipped into her polished black stilettos. Taking a moment to compose herself, Katherine slipped into her 'stone cold boss' persona she used whenever she went to work. With one last sweep through the apartment, she grabbed her coffee, her bag, and set off to work. The commute was rather quick thanks to Kath's divination abilities. One cursory glance into the future as she left the parking garage allowed her to see every road and traffic jam in the city that morning.
As her car pulled into the Magicorp garage, she felt the familiar tingle as she passed through the wards that surrounded the building. A simple security measure, but it prevented anyone with evil intent from entering the premises. After taking a moment to find a spot, Katherine exited her car and began her day.
The Magicorp Office was an imposing structure. Fifty-five stories in downtown New York City housing what - to the rest of the world - appeared to be a massive tech firm that could rival the likes of Apple and Android. On the inside however, the world's largest collective of witches and wizards worked in secret to protect the mortal world from threats so ancient their stories were now considered 'mythology' by the general public. The large central atrium in the building dominated most of the space. Floating in midair was a massive globe which was enchanted to pinpoint where in the world an outbreak of rampaging Fey or Dark Wizards were detected. Large glass elevators on each corner of the atrium allowed for quick access to the various floors and departments. On top of the building, there was a rooftop garden that looked out over the New York cityscape, a (mostly) peaceful space where employees could relax or nature elementalists could re-connect with their hippie side.
Katherine sighed in relief as she managed to get an elevator for herself and rode it all the way to her office on floor fifty. Leaning against the wall of the elevator, she turned to look at the globe as she ascended. Attacks had been getting worse in recent years. Who knew what was coming next?
