THE WAR FOR MYTHERIA - Isekai Adventure

Adam rolled his eyes at James' jokes; that really wasn't his sense of humor. Still, it seemed like at least the resident teleporter laughed at them, so it wasn't a waste. Something to get their mind off of the recent tragedies, he supposed. The Druid did agree with the Cleric about moving forward though. Even if he got kicked off the team, the red-eyed man knew he would continue to do whatever was right. Then the battle leader asked everyone if they gained anything after the crystal shined purple. It was something to consider-

Or, it would have been, if MacKensie's arrival and Lillianna subsequent bursting into tears didn't distract the man. One more thing I failed at, he thought, she needs support right away and all I can do is awkwardly offer water. Adam picked up her staff, at least wanting to be able to be of some help to the woman. When she was done crying and ready to move, he would return it to her, along with offering to be there to talk if she wanted. That would be a good way of being supportive, yes. 

Unless she needed anything, Adam intended on walking in silence for the rest of the way to their destination. That is, he intended on walking in silence until he heard Zell's question.

"Do me a favour. Could you jump in that in that river over there and start drowning? Don't worry, I'll save you... I think... I just need a little motivation."

The Druid raised his eyebrows at this, quite restrained compared to what he was actually thinking. Is he an idiot? Looking at the river to see an old man with gray skin and pointy ears swimming in it, there seemed to be little risk of drowning, even if the man wanted to risk his life that way. The swordsman seemed to prudently change his mind before Adam could say no to his idea, instead asking how to activate his powers.

Ah, the teleportation. Yes, that was quite relevant. Adam took a moment to think about how to best answer the question, then spoke. "My ability is pretty straightforward. I think about what I want to happen in my head, and I apply…magical energy? For lack of a better phrase, to the place I want it to happen at. Then it happens. Take a look." The man pointed to a nearby windowsill; there was a small potted plant on it, one that looked almost dead. He used his magic on it, pretty effortlessly compared to what he had done in the Hillocks, and it returned to life, now looking like a silver and gold pinwheel if they had green vines to hold them. What an interesting plant. I'll have to look into other plants native to this world, the man thought.

Returning to the question at hand though, Adam resumed speaking. "Of course, there's a lot we don't know about magic here; our magics could work in completely different ways from each other. Maybe you have to be in the state of mind you were in when it happened, or maybe you can only teleport once a day, I don't know." The Druid shrugged his arms, as if to emphasize that last point. More cheerfully, he added "but look where we are! If you can't figure out how to teleport on your own, someone in the Adventurer's Guild probably knows how."

To everyone that was approved, I'll send you a link to my Discord server! I have used it for multiple RPs in the past, so there'll be old chats and such, but you can ignore those.

A big happy giant arrived! Like I said, very simple, but I do like to reveal more of the character in-game. Has plenty of room for development too since, you know, he's just a simple man.

The Bear

Name: Maxim Chevalier AKA "The Bear"
Age: 32

Appearance: He's a large man standing at 6 feet 8 inches tall and 400 pounds. Maxim looks pretty gruff with his long brown hair and full beard, and is also quite the hairy man, hence why he was nicknamed "The Bear" in his village. His body structure is pretty thick, and while he may appear burly, this man's fat hides strong muscles that would put most men to shame. His bright green eyes seem to almost shine with positive energy, even in the darkest of hours.

Personality: Maxim is a very simple man. Eat, work, drink and sleep was his routine from an early age as the son of a blacksmith. He's a man of duties with a good heart. While he's quite the simpleton and uneducated, he his hardworking and stubborn. These traits served him well to learn about the trades of a blacksmith and a builder. He may come across as naïve, as he sees the good in everything until proven otherwise.

Backstory: Maxim comes from a quaint little farming village. A quiet place with no noticeable trait that made it stand out from other places. The village provided tribute to the kingdom in forms of harvest and crafted goods. Our giant of a man was raised as the son of the village's blacksmith, and so was given the great responsibility of learning the trade to take over his father's duties when older.

There isn't much of notice to tell about Maxim's life. It was quiet, life was good.

Until a drought struck. It lasted the whole summer. The fields were barren, the livestock died from heatstroke. The village was destabilized. They couldn't pay their tribute that year. A few meager coins couldn't possibly pay off an entire village's debt. And so, some villagers were taken as slave for compensation. Maxim was one of them. He was sent off to the mine.

Class: Maxim is but a peasant. A very strong peasant.

Notable skills or abilities: While he has no knowledge of magic or fighting, Maxim is very, very strong. He's also gifted with great endurance and toughness. As the son of a blacksmith, the bear knows his way around tools and metals to do the job. He's also quite adept at being a lumberjack and a surprisingly good carpenter. You can rely on this big man to craft and build what you need, or take apart anything that requires brute strength or some tools.

Anything else: Please give this man a shield you'll get yourself a walking tank 😅

I like Maxim! One thing to note, when he escapes he might have to leave his fellow villagers behind just for plot mechanics, although that isn't set in stone. Is that something you would be okay with? You could change the CS to Maxim volunteering for the mines to spare his fellow villagers, if you want. In any case, your CS is approved!

Physical Description Stands at 6’2 and weighs roughly 165 pounds. He’s a more athletic-leaning build but doesn’t do much to really tone it up except for keeping himself looking good and healthy.

Personality Kristo is someone that probably can talk his way out of anything if the other person is of average intelligence. His nickname “silver-tongue” comes from his charming demeanor and the way he deals with his words and situations. For some reason, he is usually great at distractions and getting out of situations.

Other than being charismatic, Kristo is somewhat of a goofy character that tends to have a welcoming and friendly personality. He loves telling jokes that most people would find dumb, maybe offensive, and most of the time get him punched.

For some reason, getting punched for his jokes is not enough and he will randomly state the obviousness of a situation.

Other than being somewhat of a charismatic dumbass, Kristo can barely tell the truth, especially to people he doesn’t trust. He has been called a pathological liar a few times in the past but he just claims it is for his own protection and maybe a slight hobby.

Warning, he can be very emotional and his mood can switch to whatever he needs at that very moment. Hes’ an actor, what can he say?

Backstory

“It all started on February~” looks down “Oh? We are starting around the prison mine? Not the birth of me. Okay. I see.”

Dramatically clears throat.

“Okay so this is how it went…

I was in a bar somewhere in Folgehallow? Furhowl? I cannot remember the town but does that really matter? I didn’t think so. There were these three guys across the bar talking about a poker game and oh my god. I would have to tell you the prettiest lady walked by and I completely got distracted. I mean so distracted that I had to walk up to her and say hi and she clearly hated me. I continued to shoot my shot.

Get to the point? Okay. Okay. Just settle down.

So after being backhanded by the woman and getting a drink poured on my head. I decided to walk over to the table that was speaking about the poker game. A big gambling event was happening that next Saturday and damn, it sounded good.

I ended up playing poker with the three gentlemen, amazing guys, but they figured out I was swindling them and you know? You know. You know… They were not happy about it. They were more or less pissed off you could say.

I could say a few more words about the tall skinny one but I will keep those to myself. Between you and me, a girl could punch harder than him. But don’t record that back to me.

So, after I got done swindling them and beat. I still got the majority of their money. I know. I know. I’m good at what I do but I was heading towards that gambling event like tomorrow was yesterday and yesterday was never going to happen.

I wasn’t going to arrive at the event location till the night before so I have three days ~ Oh? You just want me to skip to the event location and why I ended up in the prison mine. You are no fun, you know that? Anything I say will be used against me? Are you a guard or something? Wait! Stupid question. You are clearly a guard, you were the one that brought me here to the mine. Why am I answering these questions? You should already know, you and your friends arrested me.

Ow! Not so hard. I could have sat down by myself. Okay. Okay! I’ll continue at the event location just show a little patience. Gosh. You must have grown up in a barn or something.

Oh? You did. I mean. That’s wonderful! Good for you!

Oh, oh no. I wasn’t trying to offend your mother or father or family. It really is a good thing you grew up on a farm. Who needs the educa~ Okay. I’ll continue my story.

So, where was I? The girl at the bar was beautiful… That’s too far back? Okay. Okay.

I got to the gambling location and you know, I make an honest living most of the time and I didn’t realize these guys were real ballers, per se. In the middle of the poker game, I did a few tricks by then but I think one of them started catching on.
I ended up getting called out and I tried detesting the claims. They were not true one could say. I believe the real reason I ended up here is because two idiots tried grabbing me and I jumped onto the poker table, ruined everything, and got caught. After I got caught, you two idiots~ I MEAN GUARDS. You lovely, lovely guards. You realized I was wanted for a swindle back in… in… Shhhh. I think, what? Oh, yes. Ridges Gate. How could I forget that place, it made me rich.

Then you figured out my face was placed around a few other places too and now I am here and what are my charges? Se-Several years you say? God. That sounds too long. Can we figure out something? Maybe?

No! No. I’m not trying to bribe a guard at all! I have nothing you say? I do have things. You should visit my house down south in Portage. You would love the scenery. You probably would look great with a tan. Amazing even. Girls would love you. Strong muscles.

Oh? You have a wife. I- I mean, what a lucky girl. You, sir, are a very lucky man. I tried the commitment thing a few times and I can tell you, it-it is hard. It’s exhausting.

Oh? It’s time for me to switch to prison clothes? Okay. Let’s do this thing! I bet it is a party there. God these two suck…

I DIDN’T say anything! Nope. I’m just being…me? Myself. Pretty great, I have to be honest.

Okay. I will shut up now. I rather not be beat.

Notable Skills and Abilities

A fantastic master musician that knows how to play several instruments. He would say the has a pretty decent singing voice as well which isn’t inaccurate.

Has a way with words to help him get out of most situations unharmed or be a distraction. He hates being a distraction for many reasons.

Is actually really good at his “magician tricks” when it comes to getting ahead of the game and earning more money at gambling games and the like. He is actually very talented at gambling games without the tricks.

He is great at networking. For some reason, he somehow knows everyone in some way shape or form. Most do not have good things to say about them but he has done a lot for others. Plus he always remembers those I.O.U.s

Kristo is actually an amazing cook and somehow is great at fishing and sailing as well. If you need a captain to captain the ship or row a simple rowboat, he is your man. He will get tired from the rowboat tho.
Fishing and sailing have given him amazing knot-tying skills and he will tell you all about it. He loves showing off the “undoable” knot to people.

He knows how to navigate on and off-land very well. He can get you from point A to point B without much issue, usually.

Also has been told he has a pretty face and a great smile. Kristo believes that counts as a great skill.

Anything else Kristo has very sensitive ears. He hates the sound of silverware scratching against a plate or bowl or whatever. He will tell you he hates it too. Plus the sound of someone biting the silverware, the noise of their teeth meeting the metal is torturous to him. He will whine about it.

Color me super intrigued by this premise! Thought I would slide this in. I hope everything is alright within it. Tried to do something different. Let me know if I need to change anything or if it doesn't work. I'd understand. It's weird.

P E R S O N A L I T Y P E R S O N A L I T Y Mort doesn't speak unless she is spoken to. Yet, she may take any passing comment as a formal address. She has a curt, sharp way of talking that doesn't do well to enamor her to anyone. She's quick to insult, and even quicker to laugh in most macabre situations. There's always something unsettling in the way that she acts. Yet, don't take that odd nature to be bravado. She's aware of lines, and she draws them in the still sands of her mind. She's gotten by in her life by pretending to follow the moral compass that everyone holds aloft as being even brighter than the sun. Only in the dredges of civility will she let loose the thoughts that bubble in her brain. She also has a tendency to talk to someone named Bertrand. It's hard to tell if he's a ghost, a figment of her imagination, or a tactic to unsettle those around her. She's creepy--yes--but you have to ask yourself how much of that is an act to be left alone. Also also really likes to rattle off about philosophy. B A C K S T O R Y B A C K S T O R Y Mort couldn't begin to tell you how other elves act. What their lands are like. What beliefs that her people subscribe to. What she knows is that she grew up in the cult of Messengers of the Black Sign. Born on a fortuitous day amidst a wellspring of a blight. Neither of her parents were elven, and as such, were not her blood and flesh. Yet, she did not belabor that fact. They cared for her and loved her like any would their child. She was held up as royalty within the small cult that had settled in the swamp town of Torniko. Torniko had sunk ten times over, and each time the cult had rebuilt the town on the wreckage of it. It was the Message's Will. It wanted them to be here. So, underneath it were catacombs that housed not only its previous denizens but its culture and knowledge as well. A wealth of information that Mort endured the perilous adventure to drink up in her youth. What did the Messengers of the Black Sign believe in? Well, they believed in the nature of the body, and the sheer confoundingness of its binary nature 1. The Black Sign was a map on how to form a bridge between the Same and the Other and create a being that is aware of both its body and its spirit at the same time. And what they discovered was the only way to achieve that, to achieve enlightenment, was to supplant the soul back into its body after it had departed. Like being born anew in the flesh that is familiar. The spirit has already perceived what it can without the body. So reunited with the body, it could perceive multitudes. That's how Mort came to know necromancy. And it's fair to say her entire ideology and the town's worship of such a belief was quite the black mark upon them. They were attacked in the middle of the night, the village burned as its denizens slept. Mort had been away in the catacombs, looking for an old manuscript she'd seen in her youth. When she emerged from the depths to all the death and carnage, something in her snapped. So, she summoned up her abilities and awoke the now-dead cultists to fight on her behalf. As revenge? Maybe. One couldn't say she was powerful, more than she had the numbers to create a distraction and flee the ruins of Torniko. Rumors would say that she killed them all and danced on their bones. The reality was that a few were scratched and scraped, but the only ones left dead were the villagers. So, Mort ran, and ran, and ran, and found companionship in new faces that she met. Slowly, she started to build back up the cult, becoming its matron--its princess. They hadn't done anything wrong, but probably holding service in the catacombs, speaking of raising corpses, and "fixing" the duality of their nature by dying didn't sit well with people. So, of course, she'd be caught, shackled, and thrown into the mines. Who was she hurting? No one, she thought. But some higher power probably took offense. They always did. So, here she was sent to rot. Ten years grinding away at gold, and quite content to defame it with her fingers. A B I L I T I E S A B I L I T I E S NECROMANCY: The only magic that Mort can tap into. While the goal of the cult was to create lich-like creatures out of its members, she really can only bring up mindless denizens to do her will. The fresher the corpse, the harder it is to control. Animals are easy, and her preferred method if they are around for her to use. She can also sense the life force around her, allowing her to see enemies before they see her. Unless they have ways of masking it. SPEAK WITH THE DEAD: Part of her necromancy, Mort has the ability to speak with the spirits that are sans their bodies. She can't converse with ones that have moved on, ones that don't wish to speak to her, or those that she doesn't share a language with. While she can passively see ghosts that wish to be seen, it takes quite a bit of effort to actually speak with the ones that she's not established a previous report with. And even then, some spirits can hide from her, and make it so that she's not aware of their presence. ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY: It's not a medical version of this, per say, but it is knowledge of the body and how it functions. She could probably diagnose a broken bone, and tell you how to put it back into place. But she isn't going to tell you how to fight infection, staunch the bleeding, or deal with the pain. ARCANE KNOWLEDGE: Mort read a lot, and a lot of that reading was about magic. Again, she can't perform anything beyond her necromancy, but that doesn't mean she can't read magical symbols or mystical languages.

I like your CS! Religion and the government of this continent are very much intertwined, so any cults will definitely be crushed and crushed hard. I'd imagine living in a swamp would be a good way to stay "off the radar" until they weren't. I'm not sure if we need to PM about that in further detail, but if you have any questions, please let me know. I will say though that Mort should at least be relatable enough to make friends with the other PCs, for plot reasons and group cohesiveness. It's a brutal environment in the mine and everyone needs to have a plausible reason to trust everyone else in the group. That isn't enough to reject the CS though, just something I wanted to mention. You are approved!

@Tora should be fun! As I mentioned, I don't mind multiple people of the same class, so you can't really call dibs. I would just remember that you're not going to have any weapons right away.

@DX3214 when you are done with your CS, let me know and I can evaluate it properly.

@DX3214 if you have something in mind, post it here I suppose. If someone else has a really compelling concept for that class, it may be worth deferring to that, but I don't have a problem if two people are the same class. It would be boring if everyone was a mage or something, but I doubt that will happen.

Saiyan is thinking of an alchemist character, by the way, in case anyone else had that in mind.

Escape from the Prison Mine

You arrived at the infamous prison mine. The terrain was gray rocks as far as the eye could see, both inside and beyond the four walls made of the same material, with similarly-colored mountains visible in the distance. That rock seemed to be used for all of the builds there, with the staff buildings distinguished by signs and more care into their design. This was a dreary place, not a happy one, and you were here for life.

Why were you there? Maybe you were a criminal, sentenced there for life for whatever awful thing you did. Maybe you were born a slave, eventually sold to the government to be used for mining. Maybe you were an upstanding citizen who angered the wrong noble. Or it could have been something else entirely; whatever the reason, it really doesn't matter. When you arrived isn't really relevant either; whenever you showed up, you were lined up with the other slaves and made to listen to the Warden's speech. Oh, what a man he was. Six feet six of pure muscle, wearing the uniform of the prison staff and a necklace featuring the golden sun, the symbol of the royal family. With his hand on his sword hilt as he went on, this person's countenance made it clear that his word was law.

"Ultimately, you are all here for the same reason. That being that God has decided to punish you for your evil ways. You strayed away from the path of good, of our glorious Kingdom and its Divine Blood. But now you have a chance at redemption! By mining for gold in this place with all of your energy, you can prove yourself to this universe's creator and earn a spot in paradise. Those who fail to do so will earn a fate that will make them wish for death before finally joining all of their evil brethren in the land of eternal suffering. Welcome to the Northern Redemption District."

So saying this, you were sent to be branded on your left arm; a ladder, the mark of the prison mine and a tell-tale sign to anyone who saw it that you belonged to the Kingdom. Then you were ordered to your barracks, a spartan facility built with more gray rocks where you were kept. With only a person-sized shelf of wood to serve as your bed and personal space stacked with five others like a bunk bed, it was clear that the comfort of the slaves was not given much regard. And your days were similarly barren; wake up before dawn, mine for gold for hours, eat your one meal of soup and bread, sleep, and repeat. The only silver lining is that you shared this suffering with the other prisoners, and eventually, you even found a group of people you could call your friends. 

You would talk of wanting to be free, of course, and of course your friends agreed. But how would you do so? The facility was filled with guards, you had no weapons, and if you did know any magic your abilities have been negated by the cuff you wear around your ankle. Not to mention the inhospitable terrain of the area and the expense of leaving the continent where you would be a fugitive. But despite the odds, those thoughts wouldn't leave your head! And somehow, you've heard about an opportunity that could eventually lead to freedom, and are now discussing it in low tones with your fellow prisoner friends. Despite the risks, any chance of success was worth considering.

So that's the introduction to the idea I have. If you're here from the interest check, then some of this will look familiar. The basic concept is you're a slave in a medieval fantasy setting who wants to escape the prison mine they're in. Not only will you have to get out of the facility, but the continent as well. Maybe your character has some kind of magic that can help (once they can use it), maybe they're a warrior, or they may have something else to contribute to the team. Ideally we'd write a story together that involves these characters growing as they make their way towards freedom, so OP characters with no weaknesses or flaws are boring to write about and read, but they should have some experience with whatever it is they do already. I would encourage you to communicate with me about any ideas you have as well. I have a general story idea, but there is more than enough room for your worldbuilding here, and that makes this more fun anyway.

In order to provide a fun writing environment, a few rules are below:

1) Usual RP writing rules apply. Don't control other characters without permission, don't be a jerk, use proper spelling and grammar, etc.

2) I reserve the right to refuse entry and kick out anyone from this RP for any reason. Of course, I don't want to do this just for laughs, I just want to be able to ensure a great experience for everyone. 

3) If you have an issue with another player or me, please talk it out with them privately or PM me about it. Nobody likes being publicly called out. In my case, I am human and will make mistakes, so communicate with me when that happens.

4) Post length should vary depending on what is needed; both long and short posts have their place, but two to three quality paragraphs per post is a good minimum to expect.

5) You should be prepared to post once or twice a week. I'll make a post and give it a deadline, usually a week from that post. If the writers want, we can increase the pace, but I think that's a good starting point. Or if everyone posts before the deadline, I can push the new deadline up a bit.

6) If you can't post for a period of time or are no longer interested in the roleplay, let me know please. It's easier to know and work around it than to wonder what is going on.

Anything else: stuff you think is worth noting but there isn't a category for. This is optional, of course

@BaileyBlue302 you can use an existing character you thought of, sure, as long as she makes sense for the setting. I do have a few restrictions which I'll note in the CS in the OOC, but it's likely they won't be relevant for your character.

@Letter Bee I could work with you to create a good place for your character to join, but it likely wouldn't be until after everyone escapes. Or your character could be a prisoner that overhears the plot to escape and wants to join. It would depend on what your schedule ends up being like, I suppose.

Jokes aside, I'd say 1 or 2 posts a week, depending on the pace of the writers. I'd probably start at one per week and if everyone wants to writer faster, increase it then. Or like a certain GM we know, just bump the deadline up a bit if everyone posts early.
