“We should head out... as far as we can...” Amelia broke the moment of relaxing, as she looked about, seeing the Walkers about. She was tired yes, but the dangers here were increasing with each passing moment.
” We cannot stay here for longer, the more we stay the more the walkers will gather up and not to mention Eden might show up. I do not think they will miss this opportunity as we have scattered up.” She said, throwing a look at Sam.
” I... we take a chance by trusting you, but you do not appear to be of them... and you did help Ray so I think it's okey.” She smiled to Sam.
“We should head south east... it's our best bet.” She said quietly, trying to help Sam up, but frankly she didn't do too great job. Yeah... fatigue wasn't gone away. She just didn't notice it as much. Her body still refused to follow at times. What's more the next thing to happen was that cursed coincidence...
” You've got to be kidding me.” She said as she stepped onto something that caused very attention causing loud sound.
” Let's go...” Amelia added, hoping that they would be able to get far away and maybe get a place to rest where it was a lot safer than in the middle of a field.
Raymond looked towards Amelia and gave her a slight nod, they couldn't take the chance on saying here longer then they needed to. He moved on his own for now, he looked towards Amelia and Sam eyeing them very closely when he looked towards Amelia. He could tell that she was very fatigued since they had left Newnan, and she was also worried about nightfall coming in a few hours. The people from Eden were most likely on their way now, and probably scouring the streets for any stragglers that survived. When Raymond looked over at the newcomer Sam, he took a moment to eye her up and down he could see and tell that she was in a lot of pain from sliding down on the ice.
But she was doing a lot to just keep it hidden, and whenever she tried to help him move he refused. He was enough of a burden already on the two women, he really wished that he had a horse to ride or a new leg, even a car would be better. When Amelia stepped on something he jumped slightly when he heard a loud popping sound, which would most likely draw in the walkers around them towards the noise.
"We will make it." Raymond said trying to reassure the two women as he tried to move as fast as he could.
Sam frowned at their comments.
Tust? What's this have to do with trust? "Look guys, I come from Miami. I have no idea where I am. I mean, I know I'm north of Miami, but that's about it." She explained with a chuckle and another wince as she took in a deep breath.
Sam was going to ask about 'Eden', whatever that meant, but Amelia seemed to have stepped on something that made a loud ass noise. Growls could be heard as Sam looked at them and noticed that that was sadly loud enough to attract them to their position. That combined with the smell of her blood that most likely still lingered in the air made for a very dangerous mix. Bruised ribs or not, they had to move. Now. Amelia spoke about going East, Sam nodded.
"Great, take the lead, Red." As they ran, Sam tried to spot a house that could shelter them for a bit, but they all looked in bad shape, like the church that collapsed a few streets back. These houses didn't seem to have welcome any guests for quite some time, the wood was probably rotten and weak.
Shit, shit, shit. Sam quickly glanced behind and her turned back to the trees ahead. She heard Ray express his optimism,
"that's the spirit, there is no way those walkers are going to eat this prime meat.""Lets head east and then cut south eventually." Amelia proposed, noting the walkers she could see.” If the horde is coming from the bigger road to the west, it's best to hit that direction to gain some distance and then cut south somewhere further up, using the houses as covers to break line of sight...” Was her proposition as they moved and then she noticed the walker so close to them. 6 meters give or take? Maybe less.
She didn't set off another noise bomb, but on the bright side of things, she found the most impressive display of luck! A bat! There was a god damned bat just leaned on the fence nearby! What the hell? Weren't these buildings looted and all since they are so close to Newnan? Maybe, but now her mind was on another thing. She grabbed the bad in motion as she moved, heading for the walker. She had to keep it from getting to the wounded Sam and the legless Ray. As such as soon as she was close enough she swung the bat!
Suddenly in Amelia's mind she was not in the walker infested city anymore! She was in the middle of a stadium, yes! Just like how she dreamed when she was younger, a child wanting to play baseball with the big players! The light of the projectors, the cheer of the crowds and there she was in the middle of the swing when the world froze for a moment. Then the bat connected with the ball and it flew!' HOME RUNNNNNNNNNNNN!' The imaginary spokesman narrator shouted over the speakers as the crowd exploded into cheer! Then it all vanished and Amelia realized that she had jut blasted the head off a walker and had taken a semi heroic stance! She looked at her new weapon and smiled. This was her bat! There were many like it, but this one was now hers!
“Okey let's go... we shouldn't leave potential back biter.” She smiled, happy with her new weapon.” We should get out of the direct vicinity of Newnan before it's dark... and I don't want to risk taking shelter in any of the near houses after that church nearly fell on our heads.”
Raymond looked towards Sam and gave her a slight smile and gave her a friendly nod, he didn't want to see anyone else get mauled to death by a bunch of walkers. And he planned on hopefully living through this all and see Tiffany again, as Ray started to follow shortly behind Sam and Amelia. He was still on the fence of either of them helping him move, even though it helped them move quicker it was also risking their lives as well. But he continued to move forward as best as he could when they headed into a yard.
Ray watched as a walker came out of the wood work, then looked around until Ray saw Amelia going for a bat that somehow was left behind. He wasn't expecting much in the way of weapons and gear nearby this close to Newnan either, Amelia managed to grab it and then swinging the bat at the walker's head. The walker's body quickly slumped down dead, he stared at Amelia for a moment. She was certainly a pro with a bat.
"Nice hit Amelia, and lets keep moving forward until the sun goes down then find a place to hunker down and figure out where to go after that." He suggested, he wasn't sure how far they were going to continue moving forward, but he at least wanted to find a place to settle if it got to dark.
"Sounds good to me," Sam agreed, not that she could object. She could be standing in the middle of Canada for all she knows. The sun was still making the snow glimmer and shine, making it slippery but Sam somehow manages to follow Amelia without another slip and fall. If it were to happen again, Sam thought she was seriously going to get PTSD. She could never ride roller coasters again, how awful would that be?
Lost in her own thoughts, Sam had lost sight of Amelia for a moment until she found her grasping something into her hands near one of the houses. Sam noted that the houses still looked like major danger zones, she then looked around for a vehicle, thinking it might help their cause, but there was nothing but rust buckets parked around the houses where they were at.
Better luck next time, Sam thought.
When she turned back to Amelia, she saw a walker approaching her and saw the baseball bat she was holding in both of her hands. Sam gripped her axe and was ready to jump in and then Amelia batted the walker's head clean off and it was a glorious sight to behold. She would have cheered if they weren't trying to stealth away from a horde of zombies. So, instead, Sam raised her hand and gestured devil horns and whispered loud enough for Amelia to hear:
"you rock." Sam gave no objection as they started moving again, she wasn't sure how much more daylight they would have. This snowy hell was hard enough to traverse during the day time, she could only imagine how hard it would be at night.
“Thank you...” Amelia replied, blushing up a little and looked down at her feet, feeling a little shy. She was complimented! She was not used to being complimented and frankly that one strike on the walker seemed almost like it had expanded a good deal of her already running out strength. She looked at the sky, trying to run a quick math calculation, using an estimate of the flow of time since the morning and all the events that had transpired and she actually got a good result on how much time they were left before the daylight was gone.
” Not much time is left till sundown. Less than 2 hours.” Amelia mumbled and looked around hurriedly to see something, anything that could help! Then she saw it... their salvation.
“Let's use this!” She said and pointed out an old rusting grill that had wheels!” We can have Ray ride on it and move faster, since time's running out and we should really get out of the vicinity.” Amelia said with rather unusual for her zeal and confidence! In her mind right this very moment it looked like the only logical course of action and dammit she as going to do everything she can to convince Ray and Sam!
Raymond looked towards Amelia when she started to make her way over towards a grill that had a set of wheels on it, suggesting that they could use it to help push him along the road. Ray looked at her and then the rusted up old thing, raising an eyebrow towards her. It was a pretty sound idea to him, and Amelia said that they had less than two hours of daylight left before the sun went down.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Raymond said giving Amelia a slight smile as he started to make his way over to the grill and see if it could hold his weight and see if it would actually work or not.
"Good idea! Wait, let me..." Sam doesn't finish her sentence as she goes off and scurries around in the backyard, looking for planks of wood, but find none that are not rotted through or damp to the core and falling apart. Visibly deflated, Sam headed back to rejoin her companions when her foot gets caught on something. She looked down at the object and there it was, the perfect weapon for Ray's new hot rod: a perfectly good shovel! Although a little rusted it would definitely do. Sam couldn't think why wouldn't Ray feel extremely cool riding that BBQ, holding the shovel like a jousting knight. It was truly perfect.
"Do not forget your weapon, sir Ray," Sam spoke in a pretty good sort of Southern British accent as she handed Ray the rusted shovel. She places a closed fist on her chest, close to her heart.
"May the Gods be with you." Sam bowed slightly and without any sort of heads-up to Ray, She jumped onto the BBQ with him.
"Go forth and-!" And they come tumbling down, like the walls Beyonce built (they didn't even put up a fight, they didn't make a sound.) Sam fell over and for the second time today, her ass was on the cold snow covering the ground.
Great job, you're 2/2 for embarrassing yourself in front of complete strangers today.Sam slowly stood up, glad her ribs haven't been affected by the fall. She looked up at Ray who somehow managed to land on his good leg. She then turned towards the BBQ and she let out a relieved breath as she saw it was still perfectly fine.
"Sorry I, eh-" Sam coughed awkwardly as she looked down at the ground,
"got a little carried away." When the grill finally gave in and Ray and Sam found themselves off it, Ray weirdly nimble on his one leg and Sam on her butt. She appeared not really happy about the fact she was again looking silly. Amelia felt as if a veil lifted from her mind when the grill project failed
.” We... should get going. It might be able to be fixed to hold, but we've got not the time and I fear in it's current state it might hinder us instead...” Amelia said quietly patting Sam and Ray which was weird for someone so shy as her, but she was so overly tired both mentally and physically, so shyness was not priority right now.
“We should continue east and then cut south probably on the next street or a little after that.” She pointed out and started walking again. This time around she was not causing noise for the moment as the event with the grill had startled her a little which let her gain some invigorating energy for the time being. She walked fast, trying to focus on the soon future when they will have to hold down someone to rest once it starts to get dark. She just wished they got away from the horde behind them.
“We need to get far... as far as possible before sun starts setting in less than 2 hours...” Raymond awkwardly climbed himself up onto the grill, and managed to sit down comfortably on it which was nice to actually sit down for a little bit. He watched as Sam walked off to find something, but instead she manages to find a shovel and then smiled as he accepted the shovel.
"Why thank you m'lady." Ray said jokingly as Sam suddenly just had the bright idea to hop up onto his own ride. The moment she did Raymond held tightly onto his stick and shovel that he had in both hands, just as the grill toppled over Raymond managed to gracefully land on his good leg, which was pretty surprising still managing to keep his balance.
Ray tried to hold back a few snickers as he watched Sam land flat out on her ass once more, he reached over to help Sam back up to her feet as best as he could. Though he wasn't paying much attention when his walking stick hit against the metal grill, causing him to jump slightly. Suddenly the whole grill chariot thing wasn't such a great idea to him anymore as he looked at Amelia and gave her a nod.
"Lets just keep going.." Ray said as he started to try and keep up with Amelia as she headed down her direction.
Sam chuckled at the pat she received and held onto Ray's hand as he helped her get back on her feet. She nodded at Ray to thank him and pat his shoulder twice.
"It could have been great, but I guess it wasn't the best idea ever." Sam paused and scrunched up her face, she turned back to Ray and asked:
"Are we going insane? I think we are." Sam shook her head and followed after Ray and Amelia, as the sun started to go a little farther down into the horizon. She didn't want to think how shitty it would be to navigate this hellscape of snow and trees and walkers at night. She looked at them, eyes peeled for something that could be of help. As they rounded up in another backyard, she spotted something that made her eyes go wide. There it was, their saving grace, in all its glory: a wheelbarrow.
"Guys!" She whispered at her companions and pointed at the object in question.
"This could work," Sam then looked at Ray,
"if you're up for it." “You probably really shouldn't try...” Amelia started saying when Sam found them another wheeled... tool for not really bright action scenes to happen. It reminded her of some funny vids on the internet way back now. Still her sentence was interrupted as she felt a suddenly wave of fatigue. Actually it may not have been as sudden as it felt, but she suddenly halted in a place for a moment, feeling it harder to keep moving now. She had to lean on a few things slightly, only to cause quite the noise when she broke something or stepped onto something that made noise. Not to mention her breathing was rather loud and her steps heavy.
Raymond gave Sam a friendly smile and nod, it certainly felt like a small skit on an episode of Jackass trying to get a ride on a grill. "We may or may not have seen some really weird shit earlier while we were escaping in our minds." Raymond said softly shuddering at the images he had seen earlier in the day. Ray continued to move forward until Sam caught his attention and saw that there was a wheelbarrow. He looked towards Amelia and saw that she was having a harder time moving, she was really looking exhausted.
Raymond moved over towards Amelia and laid a hand on her shoulder and looked at her with a concerned look.
"Hey, you okay Amelia?" Ray asked, knowing that they didn't have much time before the sun would go down.
"I don't think that would be a good idea." Ray said, they were all hurt, and exhausted and it wouldn't be right for him to be sitting in a wheelbarrow while the ladies pushed him around.
"Do you need a minute or two to rest?"Sam made a mental note to ask Ray about the 'really weird shit' he saw as they continued to move forward. They haven't covered a whole lot of ground, mostly because of their recent antics, and Sam was starting to think the only way they would not get eaten alive was if they found a vehicle or a house that wasn't completely rotted through. She glanced around as they walked, but the houses didn't seem to be better than the last ones and there didn't seem to be a functional car nearby.
Sam turned towards both of her companions as she walked,
"is there a main road, or highway near? Looking for a car might make our lives easier." That was probably her best suggestion yet, then again, Sam thought their priority should be to find a shelter. They could look for a car after they've rested. This is a been a long, painful and stressful day.
“No...we do not have a minute or two to spare...” Amelia replied breathing, but trying to keep it now under control and as quiet as possible. She also was moving now on places where her steps didn't make noise now. She was keeping up, but damn if she didn't feel like dropping any moment now. Fatigue was real and building. Maybe bringing Ray up and down that rubble did put her beyond the breaking point after all. She wondered what muscle pain she'd have after this tomorrow.
“Not an option...” She replied to the other woman, still focusing on the path ahead to the next street.
” The bigger street's behind us... swarmed by walkers...” Amelia mentioned.
” Besides most things around here were looted of anything of use as far as I know. It's in close proximity to Newnan so...” Raymond looked at Amelia declining for a few minutes to rest, he really didn't want to see her fall behind and she was really looking fatigued which was what was worrying him.
"Alright." Raymond said softly as he started to move forward using his makeshift walking stick to support his weight and continued to move forward. He started to make his way a little bit ahead of the other two women. Ray looked over his shoulder towards Sam when she asked if there was a road and maybe a vehicle that they could use to get forward faster.
The vehicle was very doubtful since there were so few out this way and they were still fairly close to Newnan as well their former home. He really wished that they had some kind of transportation, the wheelbarrow would have been good, but it would require them to push someone.
"Sadly we have pretty much looted what rides we could scavenge either from parts or they were just dead beyond use." Ray said remembering his brief times working on some of the cars there.
"Hopefully there is some if we are lucky." He said softly, but it was doubtful that there was a working ride at the moment.
