Amelia Payne

Location:Headland: D3 -> C3 (House Map)
Skills: Athletics, Sneaking, Mathematics

Amelia's eyes would often wander off to Riley, struggling to keep track of her in the darkness. This was not the best situation with the bad weather that was going to hit any moment now. She sighed her eyes focused on the singer, not wanting to let her experience danger.' Good!' She thought to herself when Tati stated she took down the traps! That was great news to receive. If there were traps, Amelia wasn't going to let Riley head out there... Not without heading ahead so she was the one who triggers them instead of her love.

Suddenly she glanced around, as if expecting something to show up, but nothing was there from what she could see. Her paranoia was present as it always was to a certain degree for a while now." Good luck..." Amelia quietly said as Tati had started to move, she realized and quickly followed, approaching the building that was their target. The ballerina moved about on one side to scout, while Amelia moved around the other, figuring a flanking attack of one kind or another was probably going to be a good thing.

She tried to be as sneaky as she could, noting there were 3 people. She had managed to get into the house, but damn it 2 of the guys realized she appeared and went for a gun right away! Luckily for her the morons went for the same gun and there was a tug of war over the gun going on. While they were distracted she pulled and aimed her gun, firing at the third man who was the furthest away from the door. It looked well like she took him out.' One down!' She thought, adrenaline surging through her body.

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Headland, Alabama: E. Main Street, (D3) -> (F2) House Map
Skills: Handguns

Riley nodded at Tatiana, it was good to hear that they wouldn't really be running into any kind of traps that were set up in the yard, she wasn't really to keen on the idea of falling into some kind of pit fall or getting her foot caught in a bear trap. She remained close to Amelia and Tatiana following Tati's lead as they made it through the treeline, spotting their target right away Riley the two story house in front of them. Riley had her revolver drawn out already out of it's holster once they were at the back deck of the house luckily they still didn't even hear them yet.

Riley could feel the wind going through her hair and against her skin, and the wind was going to be picking up which wasn't a good thing at all. Riley watched Amelia very closely biting her bottom lip as she watched her girlfriend going for the door, Riley looked up through the window as well. Three men were at a table playing a game of cards, and smoking like it was just a normal day then Amelia stared directly at Amelia the moment her girlfriend opened the door. The armed men then stared at her and suddenly scrambled to get their guns, two of them were having a tug of war with the single gun that was near them.

Riley was certainly not going to let these men hurt her or anyone else in the group, and quickly stood up from the cover she was hiding in, and quickly fired off four rounds at the two remaining men who were still fighting over their gun. Just as it ended they both dropped and stared at Amelia before yelling at her. "Amelia get to cover!" Riley yelled towards her, she wasn't taking any chances at all she wanted Amelia to make sure she was safe. Sure three of the men were dead, or at least two of them were, Riley quickly ducked back down and checked the cylinder for her revolver. Only one round left in it, as she went to holster it just in case something did happen she would need the last one and went to take out the handgun she looted earlier in the day.

Erica Monroe

Location: Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Georgia (E3) -> (F8) Cabin Map
Skills: Scavenging

"Of course it's clear." Erica said towards Nigel as he looked through a set of binoculars, she didn't wonder how he could see in the dark but shrugged a little bit. As she started to make her way back up the way she had came just a few hours ago, she gave her friend's body one last look before moving forward. She closed her eyes a nd sighed a little bit, once they were back at the fishing camp they headed to the nearest cabin. She gave the two other men who were or weren't mentally stable, she certainly knew Wayne was seeing him swatting at whatever it was and then asking to light a shirt on fire to make a makeshift torch.

Once they had a little bit of light of course Wayne being the loose canon he is went up to the porch and kicked down the door and yelled into the cabin. "Sure, why not alert the whole damn neighborhood?" Erica whispered towards Wayne as she headed into the cabin as well, it was one of the ones she looked into earlier in the day. But she just did a brief look through and didn't find anything really useful or good.

Erica stared at the crates that were there earlier and decided to push them aside to reveal a few medkits that were there, and quickly lifted them up. "Hey guys I found a few med kits here." Erica called out as she set them on top of one of the crates, as she moved a little bit more Erica stopped to hear a creaking in the floorboards and knelt down. "Can one of you guys come and help?" Erica asked looking at Nigel, Hank and Wayne, usually if there was a few floor boards that were loose they usually had something good and useful stashed in it.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Quincy : Inside house (D10 -> F6)
Skills: None

It was sounding like they had a plan. Now they had two people who possibly could donate blood to Captain Sky-high, and Manny seemed to think that they'd be better off doing the blood transfusion tomorrow instead of that same night, instead getting some much needed and duly deserved rest. Alexander could get behind that plan, he was tired too. They all were, and sweating like just-deployed soldiers under fire for the first time. "We can't do much in the dark anyway like you say, so it's up to you Manny. Who do you think is best for the transfusion? Bea or me?" Alexander asked Manny, letting the doctor decide. He himself was more than willing to donate, but he knew from experience to listen to what the medic told you, less you wanted to die.

Then Thalia chimmed in with a plan for getting light and air-circulation, when Mugsy had failed on the first part. Alexander thought it sounded workable at first, starting to limp over to where Thalia's bag where and pulling it clumsly to the fireplace. "Mind helping our girls, Manny?" He'd do it himself, but having two legs was by those days a standard for helping others with two feet. But the plan that Thalia had given suddenly left a sour taste in his mouth once he reached the fireplace. It had been too dark to see, but standing closer he thought of something else. "Wait...don't break the window." he suddenly warned the others. "I feel breaking a window is a bad idea, and we don't need it. Look." He continued, dropping Thalia's bag and reaching up to something above the fireplace. "We can vent the room with this. It's better this way."

Nigel "Hadrian" Cooper

Location: Okefenokee: E3 (outside) -> B4 (Fishing Camp inside)
Skills: Scouting, Sword Fighting, Close quarter combat

Nigel looked at Erika behind her back with a look of "Well excuse me, Princess." after she stated it was of course clear. If he wasn't taking precautions and checking where they were going, even if they had already been there, then he felt they were still walking in blind. There was always the chance that another horde of undead had wandered into her 'cleared' area. But Nigel "Hadrian" didn't push the issue as the group made their way into the camp with Wayne's homemade torch. He was tired, sweaty and in need of a good night's sleep, and as a teacher he knew when to pick his battles. This wasn't one of them, not now.

Wayne on the other hand decided that he was having the equivalent of a 3rd Punic War with the door, and forced his way in like a war elephant. Loud as one too. But when he announced it was clear, Nigel went in after Erika to follow-up with the clearing. Erika quickly found medical packs that they certainly could have a use for. "That's great. Let's keep looking and making sure we have the building for ourselves." Nigel said back to her, though not before he too heard the creaking floorboard. He too kneeled down and started to pull up the board, which in turn revealed a stash of canned foods and water bottles. "Fortuna est impar ac pauci, it would seem. Now we just need to secure this place for the night, and we're all set. It was good we stumbled upon you then, Erika."

Things were starting to cool down finally. Interestingly enough it was Thalia who brought up starting a fire so they had light and ventilation. Before Manny could react Alexander was on his way to get the pack as Beatrice helped Thalia to the fireplace. Alexander wanted Manny to help, though Beatrice seemed like she had it, and Manny was still exhausted from earlier, so he would take a rain check on that. "Alexander is the better option for a transfusion, he's an exact match which is probably the most important thing to consider." Though, even with the promise of light from the fire, Manny wasn't comfortable doing a transfusion right now. He wasn't at 100% and a fireplace wouldn't be light enough to do one anyways.

Thana was clearly not getting back tonight. It was too dark to see let alone travel, thrown on top getting inside after they had barricaded the place would be a pain in the ass like no one could imagine. Thrown on top, someone would likely be on guard, and the idea of mistaking her for an aggressive walker was... scary to Manny. "So the next question of the night, who has first watch?" Manny would do it if he had to, but in all honesty, he was pooped, and would rather sleep even if just for a little while. "Whoever is on watch can also use my shotgun, better safe then sorry if something happens." having one fun between them until Thana got back made things tricky, but they had shells, and it was a decent firearm.

Manny hoped Thana was alright. He also hoped that she was coming back with something good to use. Maybe more guns and ammo, or maybe proper medical supplies. Or maybe an RV, that would be nice. To be able to sleep, drive, and work all in one safe space! Granted, he mostly hoped she was alright. He would pass on everything else if it meant she was okay.

Ash Holloway

Location: Headland: E. Main Street, A4, Car (Passenger side back seat) -> Adjacent House (Exterior)
Skills: Perception, Endurance

The situation was not ideal. It never was. If the situation was ideal, there would be a lot more living people in the world. Tons more. Ash sat for a second or two and mentally braced for the pain he was about to inflict upon himself, moving quickly and lightly encumbered when he should be staying still and receiving medical attention. But it looked like Mother Nature was about to give them a good kicking again and Ash would be damned if he went down without giving it his best, especially when the closest thing to a miracle he'd seen in years was laying in a carseat next to him, receiving attention from his father. Naturally, that sentiment came very close to being dispelled when the man spoke.

Ash turned to look at Jack, a man who he had come to rely upon and trust implicitly, a fellow survivor of keen mind and instinct. The man he counted upon to take the reins of what remained of their people and lead in the event that Ashton himself was absent, incapacitated, or dead. He stared for a moment, honestly wondering if his Second was joking about him going blind on account of a diaper mishap. Lost in his own difficulties, as he had been for a while now, Ash simply couldn't tell one way or another. He opened his mouth to speak, thought the batter of it, opened his mouth again (this time with a slight hand raise for emphasis), decided against it again, then switched tactic with a noncommittal, "Not an expert, but I think you'd be the first." The usual hint of his mild Virginian accent was a hair more prominent in his speech, as if he was caught in conversation with his guard down.

Mentally reaching back to business, Ash set down his newly acquired pistol and strained to reach into the back of the station wagon. His fingers hooked around one of the bags they had liberated from the rednecks that they had earlier dispatched and pulled it forward. He leaned up and slung it over his shoulder as best he could with his existing, smaller pack, recovered his weapon, and prepared to make a break for it. "This is going to suck..." This to himself, but for Jack, "Grab what you can, if you think you can. I'll clear the way." Very much like the credo of the Combat Engineer, an occupation which Ash plied with distinction for his country, what seemed like a lifetime ago. "Okay, and... let's go."

The movement from the car to the house that Tatiana had pointed out was relatively quick, quiet, and cautious. Quiet at least on his part, though that was difficult to determine. The second that Ash set foot outside of the vehicle, wind buffeted him, forcing him to turn his head before proceeding. This was not something to be out in for too long. Especially for a baby. Silently, he prayed that this part of the ordeal would be over quickly. Luckily, there really wasn't anything to clear, the main obstacle being the wind. As he neared the residence, Ash could not help but notice that the windows were boarded up. This could be a good thing, considering the weather. But it did limit options for entry. A slight stumble as he slowed punctuated his movement, stopping as he came to the front door. Locked.

Windows boarded, door locked. Weather swiftly turning on them. The needed to get inside on the immediate. Ash looked back for Jack, urgently curious as to whether he had a ready idea on entry. Maybe Ash had missed something basic in his haste.

Thalia Carmichael

Location: Quincy (in house, C9 -> G6)
Skills: Survival, Firebuilding, Scavenging/Foraging

"Yeah, fuck yourself." breathed Thalia, gratefully accepting Beatrice's help over to the fireplace. She had a plan in mind, and damnit, that meant burning something. The day might not be a total loss after all, aside from her arm, of course. Fire always seemed to calm her anymore. Or excite her. She couldn't tell sometimes. Whatever, it didn't matter. She was going to try to get one going. "Thanks, girl." Her words seemed in contradiction to her previous ones, but that was just how things were now. The pieces of Thalia's mind weren't altogether traveling in the same direction, anyway, requiring a conscious effort to keep a complicated thought in her head for any length of time.

Alexander had been kind enough to deposit her bag in front of the fireplace, a thing for which she was grateful. Thalia nodded, contemplatively murmuring, "Good, good..." There was a faraway feel to her voice. She opened her pack as best she could with one hand and started rummaging through it. Her firestarter was the big reason for having her pack, but she was also able to scare up enough lint, thread, and scrap to form the inner bundle of what would become a fire nest, if she could get a decent enough spark off and nurture it alive. Worse case scenario, she could dissect a bullet and go about it that way, but it was a last resort. And though it looked like the house was very gently broken in, if at all, they seemed to have enough materials keep a fire going interim, in only she could start it.

Thalia heard Alexander's assessment of her plan to create a crossbreeze. Perhaps he had misunderstood something. A couple somethings, maybe. Distracting herself right at that moment was counterproductive, being as she was still loopy from the medication. This would have to be addressed when she was done with Step One of her plan, however.

Wadding seemed easy to come by, too. Still, she was going to need the people with her to locate a couple of things to actually keep the potential light and wind source going. Thalia placed the starter bundle of lint, scrap paper, and ends of string into the paper wadding and attempted to get it going. All she needed was one good spark to catch something, and the rest was all about technique. Lacking a second hand, the mestiza doubted that she would be able to use the friction bow method for quite some time. To make matters worse, the firestarter worked best with two hands applied to it. It was a thing which Thalia struggled with for longer than she liked, coming close to tears with at one point, yet she refused to abandon her idea.

Finally, she managed to grip the two sections of her firestarting tool in her fingers in such a way as the activating surfaced touched, yet had room to slide against each other. Kneeing over her little nest of scraps and trash, Thalia brought her hand down gently and gave her fingers a sharp snap. She hovered over her project, refusing to move or breathe for long seconds, until a genuine smile of accomplishment beamed across her face. One might have thought she had just discovered a way to remove the calories from ice cream without altering a bit of its sweetness or flavor. She cradled the newborn combustion in her one working hand and brought it up to her lips, blowing upon it ever-so-gently so as to coax it into growth without extinguishing its red-orange goodness. When actual flame appeared, Thalia quickly set into the fireplace and sat back on her legs, a happy sigh of relief emanating from her in a huff.

Then she turned to Alexander. "Yeah Mugsy." She exhaled again, apparently not ready for a lot of movement just yet. "Flue dampa." Her Boston was acting up again, apparently. "Vents the smoke. Needs to be aupen. Hot air rises, 'k? Tries to draw in air from somewhere else. If that somewhere else is aunly aune spot aun the autha side auf the room, we got current." She shook her head tiredly, "And I didn't neva say to break a window. Crack it. Open a single window just a tiny bit. Put something a foot in front auf it to block light, if you have to." The cost of her effort and now her prolonged speech was wearying her. "A chair back, or something... Know what? I'm good. If you think your way will work, go for it. If it doesn't, you got a second aupinion right here. Fine eitha way."

Thalia was just satisfied to get a fire going. High and one-handed, she still contributed to the group with something meaningful, even if it was just light and breeze. She pulled out a big, floppy beach towel from her bag and spread it on the floor as best she could, lay back on it, and shoved the firestarter in her pocket. She was spent. "Need to feed that mama." she informed, pointing her stump at the hearth. "Smalla things until they catch, then bigga things. Not too much at aunce." Yeah, she was tired. She did manage to raise an eyebrow when Manny insisted that whomever takes watch could use his shotgun, but dismissed it. She wasn't in any shape for security detail, and even if she was, she'd stick with the Ruger on her belt.

Hank Wright

Location: Building Interior (F5)
Skills: N/A

The torchlight was doing a pretty good job of providing illumination, flickering though it was. Hank was not overwhelmingly satisfied with the scintillating dance of its less stable light across his field of vision, alternating with orange light and indeterminate shadow. It increased the time it would take for his tired eyes to adjust well enough to discern detail of his surroundings, even basic ones like the color and shape of the segments of floor beneath him. Was it planks? Sheets of wood laminate? Linoleum? No, it was a mystery that would have to wait until he could get a firmer grasp upon the barest hint of his surroundings, and even then it was doomed to mere supposition until the light of day beamed in a smoother, more powerful form of illumination.

Hank took some comfort in the fact that he knew, catching a decent enough eyeful from the outside, that he at least had access to four walls and a floor. Yes, it was indeed a floor upon which he stood, details notwithstanding and largely unnecessary in the grand scheme of things. He contemplated the luxury that said floor might provide, especially here in a wetland in Georgia, of all places. Hank took stock of that word, wetland. The a compound word; an amalgamation of the words "Wet", obviously, and "Land", also obviously. Land that was Wet. It made sense. And Hank was happy that he wasn't standing on wet land at that hour. Or if not happy, barely content enough with the concept that he did little else but stand quietly and give it further thought. Yes, with the exception of seeing to an inner ear itch with his pinky finger, maybe adjusting his belt a little to place the simple, once chrome colored buckle in the exact center of his waist, Hank took the opportunity to set his mind to idle. Possibly the first of many upcoming senior moments? That remained to be seen.

Year 5: Update

Date: April 1st, 2012

Gonna wrap up this day in the next couple of posts and get us to morning soon.

Wayne Maldonado

Location: F5 (Fishing Camp Inside)
Skills:Athletics, Pistol, Survival

Wayne looked round slowly, his brows lifted high as he did. Moving the torch around as he turned in his place. The others had finally made their way inside and it seemed the whole gang was there now. Looking around and such. The place looked clear enough. No face eaters about, which was good. Wayne took a step back towards the door and pushed them close slowly and carefully before going back to where he had been. He wasn't moving too far just yet.

"Any kind of stove about?" he asked but didn't move. If they could find one of those traveling grills or something similar to it he could put the torch it in and use it as a central light source and save on batteries for anything else. Plus they could warm up food. Not that the place needed heat or anything. It was spring in the south but they could later on. Night could still get chilly during this time of the year if the weather stayed as unpredictable as always.

"I don't give a flying fuck you bucktoothed fairy," he said to the air as he slipped his pistol back into his waist band. Slowly he slipped off his coat and his scarf with one hand. Switching the torch over to the other he slipped the rest of it off and his bag, tossing them to the left a little bit. It felt good to get a layer off after the heat and fights they had been through so far.

Tatiana Newnan

Location: Headland: F2 (House Map) -> B4( Main Map)
Skills: Survival, Athletics, Orienteering

Tatiana was glad the girls with her had their shit together. It wasn't long before all three men were dead, or at least she thought they were. Moving carefully she went into the house and checked pulses. They were dead. Looking back at the girls she nearly smiled but the winds picking up where not putting her at ease. Taking a deep breath she holstered the weapon she had on her and looked back at Riley and Amelia. It was time to get the boy into the house and get these bodies taken care of. Better now than later. She wanted her son inside safe.

"I go get others, you clear out bodies. Food in boxes over there," she said pointing behind the bar counter the bodies were slumped over. "I be back shortly. Stay together," she said quickly before making her way through the house and out the front this time. It would be faster rushing down the street back to Jack and Ash and Jamie than going back the way they came in. Now that she was sure all the people she had been dealing with were dead it was time to move as fast as she could. Less things to trip over on the road than in the grass.

The girls would need to make sure the dead mens brains were dealt with so they didn't come back and she hoped leaving both of them behind would not only allow her to move faster but two of them moving bodies was better than just one of them. Moving down the street quickly. She spotted someone moving and drew her gun but was relieve when she spotted it was Ash. Rushing over to him she looked round for Jack and Jamie. "All clear, let's get dovn street," she said pointing back the way she came.

Amelia Payne

Location:Headland: D3 -> E3(House Map)
Skills: N/A

After she got her shot and took one down, Amelia heard Riley's voice calling her to get down. She complied right away, attempting to get the hell out of dodge when more gunshot sounded. By the time she looked up to see what had transpired, it was all over. They had taken all 3 of them down! She looked around in panic, half expecting them to get up and shoot at them and half expecting more people to show up, but no one appeared. Tati eventually went to check them for signs of life and the result was that they were all dead. Amelia took a deep breath and sighed in relief." Thank god." She muttered and looked at Riley, giving her lover a big happy smile. She was so glad they were all alive and no one had gotten really hurt. Though she was most happy Riley was alright." You're alright... right? You didn't get hurt or anything?" Amelia asked Riley with highly concerned voice, despite the fact there was no way anything to have happened to Riley. Hey she was a little bit paranoid when it came to the musician's safety, she couldn't help it.

"Got it." Amelia quietly replied to Tati's orders. As the woman left to find the others and bring them back, Amelia quickly located a big sturdy knife and went to work on making sure these bastards can't rise again and cause them problem in teh long run. With the big knife in hand, she walked over to tehir corpses and with great eagerness started stabbing away at their heads, making sure to destroy the brain and make sure they stay bloody dead. She was especially eager to do this since she thought of how much danger Riley could have been if things had gone wrong.

In no time flat the 3 bastards had their heads and brains turned into something that didn't really resemble a proper head anymroe. She pulled away and took a breath." Riley... Where do we toss these bastards?" Riley asked, looking at her lover. She had already taken care of them possibly returning so all that was left was to dispose of the corpses from the house. Getting a house finally after so long in the Horde Buster... She looked forward to it. Hopefully they can stay around a while.

Jack Newnan

Location: Headland: E. Main Street, A4, (Station Wagon Back Seat Driver's Side) -> B4
Skills: N/A

"Hey, at least I'd be the first at somethin'," Jack said with a good natured half smile. Of course, the majority of his attention was on the bundle of joy he was carrying. He was holding everything he could already, with the baby in the car seat in his arms and he slung the baby bag over his shoulder as well, exiting the car. Following Ash along, Jack grimaced as he looked at his friend. He didn't spot anything obvious at first for getting inside - but it would turn out, he didn't need to.

He grinned, seeing Tatiana come running down the street. It was such a relief to see her. He had been worried for a moment that they would have gone through all of that, just to lose each other again. But mercifully, the world had not decided to be that cruel - at least not at this moment. Hearing then that all of the enemies in the home had been taken care of also put a smile on his face, as he protectively carried their son as quickly as he dared in the direction Tatiana had come from. He didn't want to drop his son or anything inside of the baby bag.

Beatrice Decker

Location: Quincy: Inside House (C9 --> G6)
Skills: N/A

"Got it," Beatrice told Manny, as he explained that Alex would be the preference for a transfusion. She heard Alex explaining there was something else they could use to vent the room with, but she wasn't certain what he was holding up. She helped Thalia on over to the fireplace, figuring that Thalia wouldn't be able to get very far without her like this - and after seeing Thalia on drugs, that was probably for the best. Thalia's explanation sounded plausible - yet Beatrice was also a bit skeptical about it.

"Alright, crack the window open slightly Alex please," Beatrice said without hesitation. She trusted Thalia. And her plan did have a sort of mad sense and reason behind it. It was better than the smashing of a window that Alex had briefly mentioned. "I can stay up and take watch, tend to the fire. The rest of you, get some sleep. If Thana doesn't come back, we're doing the transfusion tomorrow any way. And then we'll be planning out when it'll be safe to move. We can't stay here long."

Location: Headland, Alabama: E. Main Street, (F2) House Map -> (E3)
Skills: Handguns

Riley looked at Tatiana and gave her a smile and a nod as she watched her head out to get Ashton, Jamie and Jack over to them in the house she turned towards Amelia and moved over to give her a quick kiss. "I'm fine, really love not a scratch on me." Riley said towards Amelia, she was glad that her girlfriend showed concern for her, and headed into the house itself. "Loot their pockets for anything of use, weapons ammo and the like, and just dump them outside on the porch or something." Riley said, it be better to have the bodies out of the house rather than having them inside and sticking up the place.

Riley moved towards the closest body grunting a bit as she lifted up the body up and over her shoulder with a slight bit of trouble and made her way back outside. She could feel something solid pressed up against her neck as she hauled the body out, he certainly had something, or at least something that could be useful and tossed the body down on the ground. Riley looked at her shoulder, now stained with blood from the man she had killed. "It be nice to have a roof over our heads for the night, that's if it doesn't get blown away that is." Riley said towards Amelia feeling the wind picking up very fast now, she just hoped that the others got back safely.

Erica Monroe

Location: Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Georgia (F8) -> (E9) Cabin Map
Skills: Scavenging

Erica watched as Nigel went in and lifted up the floorboard revealing a stash of food, which was a really good stroke of luck that they had, they certainly wouldn't go hungry at all tonight. "Good thing I suggested this place then. We wont have to starve tonight" Erica said as she moved about the cabin, and stared at Wayne for a moment. It would certainly be a pain having to carry the makeshift torch the rest of the evening, and you couldn't really put it down either. "I'll look for one." Erica said as she moved to another part of the small fishing cabin.

When she stopped for a moment and looked directly up from where she was, and noticed the bit of string hanging above her Erica tried to grab it. But it was a bit out of her reach, groaning a little bit as she tried to jump up and grab it, but she wasn't able to at all it was one of those folding stairs that usually led up to an attic. Erica took off her backpack, as she stared directly at Wayne when he mentioned the buck toothed fairy again. "Hey can you lift me up, I want to check whats up there." Erica asked looking directly at Hank figuring that he could either lift her up, or he could reach it better than she could.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Quincy : Inside house (F6)
Skills: None

"Sorry dear, but no can do." Alexander had leaned up against the wall on the northern side of the fireplace when Thalia had begun to communicate in her Boston tone, reminding him of a better life up North in a time before the Undead rose up to bite your ass. The Vet respected Thalia, hell he thought she was a good sister in arms to watch your six and trusted her with his life, but he wasn't about to do what she or Beatrice were telling him. Up against the wall and watching Thalia as she managed to make fire, to which he smiled wholly and let out a quiet chuckle of approval, he looked to both of the ladies.

"If we open a window, even if just a smidgeon, there's still the real risk of the fire giving off enough light for people to see it. If we want current, the best would be to have in this room, but we can't. Trust me, any lightsource in a dark enviroment makes you stand out like a Christmas tree in August. It kills you..." Alexander's tone was that of a concerned and stern parent who had been through the exact same thing their child was going through, but couldn't really help them except tell what not to do. The last part was more true than anything, which was why lighting cigarettes was one of the many things that put you on the Sergeant's List of Idiots. It didn't help that Thalia was still on the drug-high, which he knew from experience really screwed with your mind.

"I'll be sure to ask and apologize tomorrow, Angel. Just an old Mugsy barking, ya'know." Alexander said like his old, preferable self at the end, sliding down the wall and scoothing to the side to make himself more comfortable. Manny had a good head on his shoulder suggesting they should take shifts, which Beatrice offered to take first alongside Manny's shotgun. "Thanks Bea, but don't hesitate to wake me up if you need some shut-eye. It's been a long couple of days, and you need to rest too before the morning if and when we're pulling out of here." His offer came at the same time as he fiddled around in his storage and pulled out the bed sheet, folding it to work as a pillow. He'd slept in worse places and situations than that, honestly.

Nigel "Hadrian" Cooper

Skills: Scouting, Sword Fighting, Close quarter combat

They were make progress. They weren't dying of thrist, hunger, heatstroke or hypothermia, infections or being mauled to death by the walkers, neither then nor in the foreseeable future, to which Nigel would count as a semi-successful part of his campaign to not-dying. They had found supplies and shelter, and hopefully that would be enough for them to weather the night as best they could. But before sleeping could be put on the table as an option, the building still needed to be confirmed Undead-free. While Wayne closed the door behind him, Nigel the Roman went on clearing-duty.

Nigel "Hadrian" slowly went for the door infront of him, opening it slowly with his left hand while he held his sword ready with the right, ready to defend himself from the unleashed claws of a walker. But the room he entered was clear, dark but clear. He couldn't really hope for anything more than that, and so he just as slowly returned to the main room with the others, of which Erika was jumping up and down for...something. Keeping warm was logically not what she was trying to do, so what? He wouldn't notice the string as he took that oppurtunity to mimick Wayne. Not the talking-to-yourself part, but the other. First the backpacks and satchels came off, left leaning up against the wall. Then his chainmail was taken off in a practiced and well-known method to Nigel Sporticus "Hadrian", and then the leather greaves and vambraces. The sweet touch of "fresh" air against his sweaty skin was worth a dozen sacrifices to Jupiter. "Is there anything up there, Erika?"

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: Quincy, Florida: E9. House, E9 -> G10
Skills: N/A

The fire was cracking, they were warm but not boiling anymore thank god, and they had a rough plan for now. Manny was going to do the transfusion as soon as it was light enough and Thalia was ready for it, this would also give time while that goes on to figure out what to do with the next day. If they were lucky Thana would arrive with a truth full of supplies and a way to get them all on the road again. Or maybe she would bring back some military group apart of NewMerica. Though that seemed like a silly name in Manny's head. But he wouldn't complain about it if it were real. Manny eventually offered the shotgun to Beatrice who offered to take first watch. She promptly turned it down for her own crossbow. Not a bad choice in all honesty, though it's a weapon Manny wasn't sure he'd have the chance to master in his lifetime. Alexander offered to take second watch when Beatrice was getting too tired to stay up, seemed like a good way to do things. "When you're out of it Alexander wake me up. Taking third shift will give me a decent chance to prepare in the morning and make sure everything is good to go. I don't want to chance this at all. And don't stay up all night. If you are going to generously donate your important life juice I would prefer you well rested so if you pass out I know it's because of blood loss and not exhaustion." Nice and simple plan.

Alexander brought up they had to be careful with the windows. If they were open even a little bit with the fire going the glow could be seen pretty easily from the outside. Even if something was blocking the direct line of sight from the flame. Manny is pretty sure Al' told him that once too, though he always had trouble remembering what Al' told him. His fears right now were mostly if they woke up and Thana wasn't here. If that were the case then they had a lot to figure out. Like how long they were going to stay put? Sure they could wait a little while, but how long could they before they needed to get supplies and move on? Or until they needed to find somewhere safer to hold out? Could they leave a note? God... the idea of her not coming back scared Manny a little.

Manny eventually moved himself back to his corner where he tried to sleep before. "Wake me when things get better. Or if things get drastically worse." Manny would do his best to dose off, trying to avoid dreaming right now, though he wasn't particularly good at controlling his mind while he slept. There was just too much to think about.

Ash Holloway

Location: Headland: E. Main Street, B4, Adjacent House (Exterior) -> Following Tatiana to House
Skills: Perception, Endurance

It was a willingness to be prepared that prompted Ash to carry all that he did, coupled with a concern that other, random individuals might come across what they had rightfully liberated from those who would have done them harm. Or if he was completely honest, it was equal parts liberation and looting. The other guys had stuff, Newnan folk needed stuff, they had Tatiana. That made them "The Bad Guys", which meant they had to go. Ash wished that he didn't have to take a bullet for it, but it was a small price to pay to get Tati back, as well as weapons, ammunition, and supplies for his people. Though as he followed Tatiana back to the house that she and the other women of his group cleared, the fact that he did take a bullet and that he was carrying the bulk of their plunder was starting to come into direct conflict with one another.

Ash looked to Jack. He seemed in fairly good spirits, and he had damned good reason to be. Ash was genuinely happy for him, too. Even a bit jealous. He was following his own piece of hope, or soon to it. The once and future Captain felt the weight of two sets of dog tags around his neck, swinging back and forth as he ran. It served as a reminder of that hope he clung to, and the obligation that went with it. Leave it to that Navy woman to touch upon his sense of duty. It kept him moving for a solid year so far. As soon as he was physically able to press forward, Ash fully intended to renew a more direct approach to her, no matter what the outcome might be.

The problem now was that he was having difficulty moving. It started easily enough with a sense of coldness from his extremities, followed by fatigue. Nothing he couldn't deal with, but coupled with the pain of a foreign piece of metal in his body, it began to rob him of his vitality. The dog tags started to feel heavier, a stone about his neck. And the bags from the car seemed to triple in weight. Ash was tired. He hurt badly, and after this time it finally wore him down in earnest. He began to decline, following along behind Tatiana. His footfalls came slower, and while he was still upright and moving, the loss of blood and rising pain of his injury hinder his progress to the point of distraction. Regardless, he had to continue as he was. Tatiana was armed, alert, and knew the area. Jack had his own hands full with his son and his own gear. Forward, ever forward. Hopefully, if the darkness took him, it would do so indoors and around people in a position to help. Just keep moving.

Thalia Carmichael

Location: Quincy (in house, G6)
Skills: Perception

There were occasions back when the world made sense that Thalia was certain that she was the only sane person in a room full of oddballs. Sometimes the opposite was true, but for the most part, it was what it was. This might have been one of those times. of course, she was fairly certain that she knew what she was talking about, but the explanation was falling (mostly) on deaf ears, or to be fair, ears that were not fully processing her intent. Well, no skin off of her ass. The rest of the group can do whatever made them feel safe and secure. The extra heat from the fire would be good for her, at least. Losing half of your blood tended to give one a chill.

Thalia pushed herself up and over with her one fully functional arm. The pill was starting to wear off, she could feel it. With it came other, less pleasant sensations. She could hope to fully pass out before everything hit her at once - in her condition it was likely that her body wouldn't let her wake up for a while even if she was on fire - but that meant making an earnest attempt to rest on the immediate. It took some doing, but she managed to get her beach towel back a couple of feet from the fireplace. She pulled the blanket up and around her and started to settle back down on the floor, but then a realization came to her: The One Winged Angel that was Thalia had her pistol still set up for a right handed draw. That just wouldn't do anymore.

Her Ruger was a smaller weapon than fit her preferences, as was its holster, but it had the benefit of being quick and uncomplicated. Her hand reached across her torso, detaching the whole setup (weapon and holster both) from her side, flipped it over, and clipped it onto her waistband in the front of her jeans. Clumsily, she removed the firearm and checked to make sure it was ready to bark at her convenience, ensured that the safety was on, and put it away once more.

"I'll leave it to you forwahd thinking types to handle the plan this evening. I'm owt." Thalia let her head fall back along with the rest of her body, flumping upon her worn beach towel. Sleepily, she pointed at the lady tending the fire and gave her a quietish, "Bien entrada la noche, Bea." and pulled the blanket up around her. Before the pain set in proper, she really wanted to get what shuteye was available.

Hank Wright

Location: Building Interior (F5 -> D4)
Skills: N/A

Hank had been present to enough of Wayne's interesting arguments with himself not to be rattled from it. He could forgive the others for quite understandably being a little put out by it. Such was the case when Erica began to inquire of the man for an assist with... something or another above her. It didn't make a whole lot of sense to Hank at the moment, but hey, who was he to judge a person for wanting to look above one's self in a survival situation. It took a few seconds and Wayne's insistence that they find something to safely place the torch into to realize that the young lady wanted a boost.

A head shake at his own (hopefully temporary) metal sluggishness later, and Hank trudged over to Erica's location. He set his shovel on the ground next to him, took a knee, and laced his fingers together, providing her a more or less steady step with which she might boost herself up a couple of feet higher. As it turned out, there really was something above them. How quaint. Hank wondered why he hadn't noticed it until someone else did, if only for a moment, before shrugging it off with the philosophy that someone did and nobody got hurt in the meantime. Chalk one up for their side. Upon completion of the epic Human Step Project, Hank recovered his shovel and took a step back, eager to provide some type of garden tool melee support in the off chance that something unsuspected occurred because Erica's prodding into the great unknown of whatever was up there.

Year 5: Update

Date: April 1st, 2012

Dice gods have decided - a little time jump is coming. 2 rounds left for today after this one.

Wayne Maldonado

Location: F5 -> D5 (Fishing Camp Inside)
Skills:Athletics, Detecting

"Perfect," Wayne muttered under his breath. Looking around the place slowly. Seemed they had things locked down for the night, well at best as they could. "Can't stop it Hap. Rain gutters are stuffed with fuckers who were sure they could return things to the way they were. Change is inevitable," Wayne muttered as he started over to where Hank was and Erica (would be). Looking up as the stairs would eventually come down he grinned. "Well hocus pocus mother fuckers, it's magic," the deranged cop chuckled.

"Oh shit today was nothing, remember when we blew up those six nuns? Wait, that wasn't real? Well shit you ain't fucking real either but I talk to you. button your fucking apple hole will you before I shove a Granny Smith up there," he added with a swat to his right. At the stairs touched down he rolled his neck and grabbed ahold of a stair. One step and then another. Then shit went wrong.

The worn out stair case broke free from the ceiling above them and came crashing down. Wayne went down with it, falling flat faced onto it and just laying there sprawled out like a cat trying to ice skate without claws. "Mother fucker that hurt," he grumbled before giving a thumbs up. "I'm alright, I'm good."

Tatiana Newnan

Location: Headland: B4 (Main Map) -> E2 (House Map)
Skills: Survival, Athletics, Orienteering

The guys didn't seem to have much to say but Tatiana didn't seem to care. Ash was there, Jack was there carrying Jamie. That was all she cared about right then. They needed to get inside and get inside quickly. The winds were picking up even more and she had lived in Georgia long enough to know that there was either a tornado close or the straight winds were going to be enough to cause a lot of damage. It took a lot to stay on her feet by the time they reached the back of the house and came up the porch but she wasn't going to risk going in the front door. Just in case the girls didn't hear them, she didn't want to get fired on.

As they got closer she made sure to make noise. "Ve're back! I got them!" she yelled out several times before going up the porch steps. Once there she waited for Jack and Ash to catch up and be there with her. She wasn't going to enter the place without them. Not now. Not when they were so close to actually all being together again. Well as much as they could be since Newnan fell over a year ago.

Tatiana gave a wave to Riley and Amelia when she spotted them inside of the kitchen. It looked like they had had enough time to clear out the bodies. This was good. She knew there were plenty of supplies in the house and they could stay there until they got situated and Ash had a chance to heal some. There were enough supplies in the place to hold up the six of them, five plus baby, for a good month or more without having to leave again if they had to. For all she cared at this point that was just fine with her.

"Hurry, get inside, ve close up things, get Ash taken care of," she said to Ash and Jack as she glanced back for them. "Jamie has playpin in living room," she said to Jack specifically as she waited for him to get the boy inside. She knew they would have to talk but not now. That was an eventuality that could wait and she was in no rush to fill Jack's head with the horrors she had been through over the last year. In fact if she never had to go into it, so be it. Jack was better off not knowing. If he was still half the man she had married she knew he would blame himself for everything she had been through without him.

Amelia Payne

Location:Headland: E3(House Map)
Skills: Perception(looting the bodies)

She nodded at Riley as the two of them started bringing the bodies outside. It wasn't really a hard task to do, it was just well heavy. Still didn't take much for them to drag them outside. Riley had already dragged one, so Amelia dragged another one and then the last one. The weather was getting way worse fast though. She sighed and crouched over the men they dragged outside, hurrying to go through their pockets. Dammit she couldn't find a thing. It was all the darkness and wind that were constantly hindering her. She didn't really find anything in their pockets so she hurried back inside the house.” Glad to be inside... this could have been a nightmare if we were outside in this weather... and it still could turn into one... wonder if the house's got a celler or something...” She mumbled, worrying about the safety of them all. Tati said the house was solid enough and all Amelia could do now, is pray that she's right.

Soon enough she heard Tati's voice and the woman showed up not long after. She looked at her, the rest had arrived! Amelia took a deep breath and relaxed a little in relief. They had survived yet another danger. Though it wasn't over quite yet. A storm was brewing and storms were deadly if strong enough. Hopefully the house was kept in sturdy enough condition to not crumble on their heads... though then again who knew maybe even the roof could be torn away from the house. She had seen such cases way ago on tv. It was so weird how once tragedies on TV paled in comparison to the normal life now.

“Let's go help them get inside... Ash's wounds should be taken care off fast...” Amelia turned to Riley and said with concern in her voice. She was really worried for the soldier. He was the only one shot this time and the wound had been left untreated for quite a while now. Hopefully it's all going to be fine.

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Headland, Alabama: House Map (E3)
Skills: Scavenging

Riley knelt down as she started to search around the dead man's body searching just about every single pocket that he had on him, and sighed to herself when she couldn't find anything useful. It was either junk or couldn't find anything that would be good at all, Riley looked around either a tornado had touched down somewhere close by or it was going to touch down soon. Riley headed back inside as well, she didn't want to get caught outside for to much longer. "There should be one, but i'll ask Tati when she comes back. Are you okay though Amelia?" Riley asked as she started to make her way to the supplies that were there on the nearby kitchen table.

Riley sighed to herself as she started to relax a little bit looking around, it had been awhile since they had a nice place to settle for the night instead of the back of the hordebuster. Riley started to think about their time back in Newnan when Riley let Amelia crash in her place for the evening. "Should get that first aide kit prepped again then." Riley said, as she turned around when she heard Tatiana's voice coming through.

Riley looked towards the window she had shot out just a few moments ago to kill the other men there, it was going to be an issue if the wind picks up then it might be an issue. Riley looked over at Tatiana for a moment she knew the house better than they did after all. "Is there anything to board up the windows by any chance? Or a basement just in case a tornado comes through or the winds pick up really badly?" Riley asked Tatiana as she went over towards Ashton rather quickly. "Let me take some of the stuff off for you, go get inside." Riley said towards Ashton.

Erica Monroe

Location: Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, Georgia (E9) Cabin Map
Skills: Scavenging

Erica turned her attention towards Nigel when he approached her asking for what she was trying to jump at. "Theres an attic portion." Erica said as she tried to grab at it once more. Eventually Hank came over and offered to help her, the moment he got into position Erica stepped up using the ladder and pulled down the string. And a set of stairs came down as Erica took a step back from it, there was hopefully some more supplies, guns or even some more food up there. So far the place had a good decent amount of supplies, as Erica was about to step up and see what was there Wayne of course came forward.

Erica took a step back, she wasn't sure about the condition of the stairs at all but she was more than willing to let the man test the waters on how well the steps could handle weight. Which of course didn't work so well for him, as one of the steps broke causing it to fall off of the ceiling. "Thanks for testing how stable it was." Erica said towards Wayne in a joking way, she then started to look around the rest of the cabin. She couldn't find any other way that would act as a makeshift ladder, looking back towards Hank again. "Mind helping me up again?" Erica asked, she was really determined to find out what was up there, hopefully it was for nothing.

Emanuel "Manny" Newman

Location: Quincy, Florida: E9. House, G10
Skills: N/A

Manny for the second time tonight was back to enjoying his nice hardwood floor of a bed. Though this time when he slept he didn't find himself back in the office he had run years ago, he found himself huddled up in a football stadium filled to the brim with people. Most of whom were refugees, but every now and then he would be able to spot a soldier patrolling the field making sure no one got into trouble. The soldiers all had the same look, the look of oncoming doom and endless fear. He almost expected that look from the other refugees, though not from the soldiers. He was hoping for cheering, professional, and an overall amazing force here to keep them safe. But what he saw were men and woman who looked death int he face, and lived to regret it. That idea scared him, if the military didn't have this who did?

Thankfully, Manny wasn't alone. Both Suzan and Jimmy had made it here with him, though they had to leave the truck to make it this far. Manny would have liked the option to ride it away if things went wrong, but if things went wrong where would they go? Though as of right now despite the poor moral things were okay. Suzan and Jimmy were alive even if Jimmy was struggling to not look like those who had already died. Manny figured that the infected woman who bit him transmitted something to Jimmy, something aggressive. The young boy would never admit it, but he was getting sick. The doctors here did a once over on him to clean his wound but had to move on. Manny had been trying to go at it every now and again since but Jimmy was reluctant to let anyone help him. He still had Manny's shotgun. Manny didn't want it right now anyways. He still had the image of the woman's head being blown apart stuck in his head. He wasn't a fan of Jimmy who seemed to be getting weaker by the moment holding the only gun between them all, but Manny couldn't bring himself to hold it, and Suzan hasn't fired a gun in her life. Manny offered to show her, but Jimmy pushed back explaining how fine he was and that he could take care of the situation if things went wrong.

Jimmy dind't do much since they arrived though, he just kind of sat there half dazed with the shotgun in his lap. Suzan had tried calling her parents back in Georgia still with no luck. Wireless phones seemed to be down. Manny noticed someone with a satellite phone who was able to make a call once, then a fight broke out as several other people tried to take the phone from him to make their own personal calls. Manny has been trying to keep busy since arriving. Helping people with simple injuries, trying to cheer them up, even seeing people he knew and trying to reassure them that the soldiers had this under control. Now, he just had to tell himself the same thing.

While trying to rest Manny noticed Jimmy had collapsed onto one of the many cots. As soon as Manny noticed this he ran over to the young boy and turned him to his side. He quickly realized it wasn't a seizure but something was wrong with him. He had started to develop a rather extreme fever that felt like it would have burnt Manny if he had held his hand there much longer. "HEY! WE NEED A DOCTOR HERE NOW!" Some people had started to gather, no doctors. This was way outside of what Manny was able to take care of. He was a dentist, not paramedic. That was when he heard the all too familiar click of a hammer being pulled back on a pistol. Manny turned to see a man in his forties aiming a revolver at Jimmy. "He's infected. He gotta deal with him now before he turns into one of those beasts!" Manny had trouble believing this nonsense. Jimmy still had the flesh on his face, and sure he was fucked up a bit, but he was still breathing just fine. Manny put himself in the path of the barrel. "He's not infected. And if you don't put that thing down now we're going to have problems. He's just sick, he'll get over it and we'll all move on." The person seemed full of rage and had a death grip on the revolver.

All Manny could think was Where the hell are the soldiers!? "You can't prove he's not infected! And we can't chance it! If he turns here we're all dead!" Manny was ready to respond when gunshots started ringing out across the stadium. This took the attention of the man with the gun and Manny took the chance to try and grab the gun from him. It fired once in the air, and once in the ground before Manny had a grip on it. Though he had a grip on it the man was a lot younger and seemed to be a lot stronger then Manny. It wasn't until Suzan jumped on his back and wrapped her arms around his neck that he let go. By the time Manny had the gun in full the man had thrown off suzan and grabbed Jimmy, using the semi conscious boy as a shield. "Put down the gun old man." The gunshots kept ringing out, people were running all over the place. And Manny was running out of time before the chaos caught up to them. "Okay.... Just don't hurt him...." Manny set down the revolver on one of the cots. Before Manny could react the man threw Jimmy at Manny and made a dash for the gun. "BOOM!" was the only thing that came to mind as Suzan fired the shotgun at the man. The shot missed, but this got the man's attention. "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!" She screamed aiming the shotgun at him. It made Manny cringe a little the way she was holding it, but he wasn't going to say anything right now.

The man eventually got the idea, and took off taking the revolver with him. "...did you miss on purpose?" She seemed concerned more then anything. "I... don't know..." Manny just put his hand on her shoulder. "Let's assume the best then, and get Jimmy out of here. Things are getting harsh really fast." Manny slowly took the gun from Suzan, the way Jimmy had when Manny had used it. Most of the chaos was on the other side of the large structure, but how long would that last? The trio made their way for where the rest of the refugees were going. Now Manny could spot soldiers. Better late then never.

Alexander Polawski

Location: Quincy : Inside house (F6)
Skills: None

They had their guard-scehdule all set up, their cozy corners to sleep in and a fire crackling in the fireplace. Had it been somewhere above the Maxon-Dixon line, it could have counted as a pleasent trip to the outdoors in the cold winter. But since it was still in Florida, it was still swealtering inside. But Alexander was too tired to give a rat's ass about that, he'd slept in worse condition before. At least there weren't any charlies scouting their perimiter or boobytraps to maim yourself on in here. Alexander lay on the folded bed sheet and let his eyes wander across the room in front of him, and the people inhabiting it. Manny, Thalia, Beatrice, but not Thana. No Navy Blue, ma'am to give orders and keep them alive. As his eyes closed and all became a dark velvet over him, Alexander prayed quietly for her safe passage through the night. Only God and Thana herself could keep her alive now...

Where was Alexander travelling off to in his state of dreams, if not in the same overheated oven of a house in the Floridian panhandle? Still in Florida, further east and south as a matter of fact. Alexander was certain of this, he was too aware in his dream not to recognize the never ending Atlantic ocean to his east and the long Miami coastline to his west. South he and the passangers on his and Judith's boat had only left blood, death and misery. And walkers, lots of them. They were sailing north, searching for safe land to anchor up against, but everytime the old veteran sailed closer he knew he was in danger, each and every time. So he sailed on, again and again. Looking around his boat, once his pride and joy when he wasn't selling electronic bits and bobs, was now bloody and full of sea-sick souls that trusted their lives in his hands. Why? Sometimes he didn't even trust himself to take care of him. Too often really.

Judith was his pillar of support. He didn't miss her, because she was there. In his dream she was just as beautiful as the day he had met her outside the New England convinience store back in the 70's. Just as beautiful as the last day they had spent together, alive. In the mortal plane of the awake, Alexander 'Mugsy' snored like the old man he was, but alive.

Nigel "Hadrian" Cooper

Location: Okefenokee: B6 (Fishing Camp inside) -> F8
Skills: Scavenging, Survival

"Nice find, just be sure to be..." Nigel had begun to say back to Erika as she explained what she had found. An attic, which in those times and circumstances could provide a fine enough shelter if it had an easily available escape-route if shit hit the fan-slave. But before he had finished his sentence, Wayne had attempted to climb up the staircase. Nigel thought it looked safe enough, but the collapse and fall of the stairs - including the climbing Wayne - put a quick stop to those thoughts. For a moment there he questioned whether Wayne was alive or not after such a fall, but the subsequent words about a mother and him being okay, Nigel rose up from his short rest against the wall.

Since Erika wanted the help of Hank to continue her search, and Nigel still wasn't sure whether it was a good idea or not to approach Wayne when he was like that, the neo-roman went back to the creaking floorboards from earlier. All roads lead back to Rome they said. The floorboards were easy enough to pull out, though he'd wish he had a crowbar instead. Reverse renovation was not something he wanted to occupy himself with when it was getting dark outside, but perhaps it payed off? Once he had pulled up some, Nigel saw something hidden underneath the floor they had been walking unknowing on. A box, a tin box with a lock on it. Not food or water mind you, but it was something. If anything, his curiosity was peaked even more. Picked it up out of the hole, Nigel held it up and looked at it. Nothing special, just a normal tin box. But why hide this out of all things? "Hey, anybody good with opening locks?"

Ash Holloway

Location: Headland: House (E2)
Skills: Perception

His strength was flagging. There was no denying it anymore. No amount of wishful thinking was going to put the blood back into his body nor knit the hole it came from. It might have even been folly to grab so much stuff from the car before running out into the epicenter of a tornado breeding ground. Lord knew that his shirt was toast, as could anyone could plainly see that had even the barest power of sight. Ash wasn't particularly happy. His people were alive and relatively safe though, and a family was back together. He'd still call this day a win, overall.

Mustering what physical reserves he had buried, not to mention a heavy spoonful of partially false optimism, Ash put one foot in front of the other, trying like hell to focus only on that concept. A boot slapped onto untested ground before him, followed by another, and another, and another. Eventually, it would total enough steps to allow him to collapse without fear of being caught in the open for the elements or the Dead to make short work of him. He barely noticed Tatiana yelling from in front of him; her voice seemed to be getting farther away. Ash did note the pile of freshly killed bodies that he assumed belonged to the previous occupants of the house that he was stumbling toward. Once upon a time, that would have been a thing that would have bothered him. Time and circumstance did seem to change one's tolerances. Instead of bother, the once Captain took it as a sign that the place was secure, and while he wouldn't have left corpses out in the open like that, he was in no position to quibble over the matter.

After what seemed like an hour (but was probably only a couple of minutes), Ash managed to set his boots into the house proper. His head was ringing, but he did manage to hear someone offer to take some of his burden. Lifting his head, Ash saw that it was Riley. "Appreciate that, Superstar." he remarked distantly, dropping his bags to the floor with a heavy thunk. Reflexively, Ash moved his weapon to holster it in the place that he would usually keep a pistol, fully forgetting that his old .45 and the military rig that held it was lost - long gone over the course of a hard year out in the world. The memory of it made him sigh heavily. He had just gotten that weapon before the Outbreak; it was the newest and best pistol circulated into active service, and was a fine piece of tough, calibrated hardware that had done him well for years. Instead, he tucked his present gun into his belt.

With a weak but stoic voice, Ash uttered, "I need someplace to lay down for a while." He glanced at his injury, "Maybe some vice grips and a bottle of whiskey, too. Little help, please?"

Thalia Carmichael

Location: Quincy (in house, G6)
Skills: Perception

Pain was setting in, raw and gnawing. But so was fatigue. Thalia would have lay even money on which would take the majority of her attention before the night was over, but the desire to close her eyes was making its move, speeding closer like a thoroughbred racing horse on the last stretch of a race. The young woman smiled just a little at the mental analogy. She had never really taken an interest in horses, actual horses, before the Zeds eat away most of humanity. Girlish visions of "My Little Pony" probably didn't count, though she was admittedly beginning to think, as the pastel equines attested, that Friendship was indeed Magic. Okay, maybe not magic in the strictest sense, but it was one of the contributing factors that kept you alive. Thana, Beatrice, Manny, Mugs; that collection of nutcases and assholes were the reason she was still living, most likely. Thinking back on it, a different set of nutcases and assholes was the reason she didn't die shortly after the Outbreak, too. Also the reason that she took an interest in horses that didn't come with cutie marks and have a marketable line of toys modeled after them. Vikings in Georgia were responsible. God, how she missed them.

Her mind drifted back to the group in Fairburn's Castle Town that took her in when she was near to dying from exposure and ignorance. Lessons learned from them gave her purpose and a new skill set that she took to with serious fervor. She had quickly turned from an independent, dark, and professional urban girl, and become what she could only have described using terms from an old set of D&D books she happened across back in college: Ranger, Pathfinder, Stalker. When the native teachings of La Familia Gonzalez mixed with the necessary survival skills of the Shieldmaidens of Fairburn, something new was created within Thalia. She stepped out from the shadow of her family's exploits and become her own woman, and while she would always be proud of her lineage, she did not want to go back to existing as just another of La Familia; known mostly for being the niece of a legend. Now, she rode horses. She ran through thick woodland silently. She built fires that were not visible from more than a few steps away with diffused smoke that did not give away their position. She fought with blade and spear and shield, gun, stick, and fists. Thalia stormed goddamned cult fortresses and scoured the stain of their presence from the face of the earth. She did things her uncle never did.

A piercing moment of introspection told her why she was suddenly thinking of all this, all at once. Thalia was scared. Genuinely afraid of what might happen to her and her unique blend of skills now that she had half the number of hands one usually needed to use a skill or ply a trade. What was more, she was formerly right-handed. She could use a knife fine in her left hand, and a shield? Its use was designed with the off hand in mind. She had figured out the trick of using a firestarter with her left as well, which was good, but this was going to be a massive adjustment and there was no way around it.

Thalia was very near to sleep, and her subconscious was forcing her to deal with her insecurities, forcing her to cope with a frightening set of possibilities. But she was a survivor. Every doubt that surfaced was met by a defiant argument. Yes, this would be an issue. Damn big one. Thalia would adapt. She would deal with it. Lots of help would be needed, but she would get accustomed to this new reality in which she had one fully functional hand and one arm that ended below the elbow. Hell, the right gear and a bit of time, this might even become an asset. The descent into unconsciousness brought with it visions of limb replacement and potential additions for scouting or combat, tactics for fighting like that, weapons that could be utilized from a fixed position or simple grasp. Her footwork would have to alter as well. She was always a switch-hitter boxer anyway. No, she would adapt. She would be okay, eventually. But there was one thing that bothered her:

Just before she closed her eyes and allowed sleep to claim her, Thalia raised the bandaged stump of her right arm and stared at it for long seconds. With a sleepy sigh, she breathed, "Well there goes my fucking sex life..." lamenting the loss of her dominant hand. A halfhearted shrug later, she was past the concerns of the waking world.

"Jesus Christ, Wayne. How I'm still alive is a mystery. Figuring out how you're still alive is a god damn Herculean Labor. Seriously, I'm... I'm... I'm baffled how we got this far." he stammered, looking to his friend on the ground. "Baffled, Wayne." They'd been at this for a long time now, and both parties knew that were Wayne actually injured or in trouble then Hank's response would have been considerably more serious and less admonishing. He had the crazy guy's back no matter what. But falling on one's ass during a quixotic dash to be the first man into potential danger was demanding of a little mirth and a moderate amount of sarcasm, so long as no one was hurt.

The lack of working stairs didn't seem to bother Erica in the slightest, though she did require Hank's assistance again. No harm, no foul. He had no problem giving this another try. Now that there was a bare spot that used to be ceiling, the plan had to change somewhat. Hank offered over the use of his Maglite, with the guideline of, "You be thorough, but you be mindful of the batteries, too. Working D-Cells are an endangered species, huh?" Again he assumed the Human Step Project stance, this time with his feet a bit more apart to facilitate a more lasting, stable support for the woman and her trip up to what he assumed was an attic overhead. It might be a hell of a place to store goods, too. Commercial, non-perishables from a while back, or even some basic items that might their lives a hair easier on the temporary. "Come on, let's get this over with. I have some quality 'sitting the hell down' I'm anxious to start on tonight. Up you go."

Amelia Payne

Location:Headland: E3(House Map)
Skills: N/A

“I'm fine, Riley... I'm fine.” Amelia repeated and looked at her love. The musician was the the sole person she cared about more than anything. She also looked around, taking the sighs of the surroundings. She was afraid of possible dangers, but dangers inside this house were less than dangers outside the house. They finally had a proper place to rest after so long. Not that it lessened her concerns as of what could be lurking around or what could go wrong. Still the benefits for now outstripped the negatives. Especially since they could far easily notice if someone was trying to get in from the outside. They were going to have to be careful still. She was going to sleep with a weapon nearby... if they could get any sleep in this storm that was brewing of course.

“Good thing medkit's in my bag then. It's fully stocked, hopefully, it will do the job...” She nodded and patted her bag. She had kept her first aid kit for a while now. Luckily she never had a reason to open it until now so it was fully stocked. She hurried to pull it out of her bag while Riley's attention was being pulled towards the outside where Tati and Co were arriving. Riley was also right though, they had to board that window... and any other possible weak points. She still had to do a walk around the house and check hte condition of hte other windows.

While Riley went out to help, Amelia managed to prepare the First Aid kit and put her bag back on, holding the medkit while she turned around to see that Ash had arrived. Good, he was still on his feet for now at least. She smiled, happy that the rest were arriving. She hurried to make a few steps over towards the door to see if there's something she could help.” You guys need any help? Or a shoulder to lean on?”

Jack Newnan

Location: Headland: E. Main Street B4 --> the House (E3)
Skills: N/A

Jack was having some trouble focusing on anything that wasn't Jamie or Tatiana. He felt bad that Ash was carrying such a difficult load, after being shot, but his priorities were solely on his child. He followed Tatiana back to the house that they had recently 'liberated' and his grip tightened on the car seat he was carrying Jamie in as they neared it. Tatiana had the good thinking to announce their arrival - he didn't want his baby near another fire fight. What if little Jamie had been the one shot instead of Ash?

"Which way is the livin' room?" Jack asked. Tatiana had told him where the playpen was but he didn't know which route to take. And he grimaced, looking at Ash. His best friend was fading fast. Hopefully this place had a decent stash of whiskey - Ash had more than earned it and it would help to take the edge off during this next part. They needed to get him tended to and quickly. It was too happy a day for sorrow.

Beatrice Decker

Location: Quincy: Inside House (G6 -> G9)
Skills: N/A

Beatrice couldn't help but find a flaw with Alex's suggestion - even if they opened up the window a crack, it didn't mean they had to let a light source be visible. She was envisioning covering the window with a blanket once it was open, and then leaning one of the mattresses against it. It'd allow a slight breeze to come inside and cool things down, while blocking out the light source. But seeing her companions all unceremoniously go to bed, she didn't feel like arguing the point. They could deal with a hot house.

She moved away from Thalia to give her some space, staying near the front. She had retrieved her crossbow and peeked out the window on one occasion, seeing nothing moving. Everything was still and peaceful. In some respects, that bothered her. They hadn't been a group to know much peace. As she glanced at the sleeping forms of her companions, noticing that some were more restless than others, her mind went to Thana. Had Thana decided to try her luck on her own? Beatrice wouldn't have blamed her if she did. They now had two individuals who were lacking in limbs. The odds of survival that were normally increased in a group had been hit pretty hard.

Beatrice sat there peacefully, reflecting on all that had happened for the duration of her watch. Then it was time to go rouse Alexander.
