Until recently you were just a run of the mill kid, or maybe you were a troubled teen, or even perhaps a college age young adult just trying to live your life, but not anymore. Now you're something else...something different; you are gifted.

This story will be set in the X-Men fandom where you will take on your own unique characters. My intention is to set this RP in a world where mutants are still relatively unknown to the masses, where the "gifted" are feared and looked down upon by society, and where it would be detrimental for the public to find out the identities of those that are known about. The idea is this: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters has been a haven for mutants for a decade now, but one school can only do so much in a world where there are new mutants popping up all the time. So, Charles Xavier has entrusted one of his good friends, Malcolm Ashford, to open a new school to help ensure more mutants find the help they need. We will be the first class of students at the Ashford Institute for the Gifted, and will live the lives of mutants in a world made for humans. We together will learn how to control our gifts, find out who we truly are, make friends (and enemies) along the way, and train to one day join the ranks of the X-Men.

This RP encourages building relationships between characters, both romantic and platonic. At its heart this game is going to be about character development far more than combat and stuff like that (though there definitely will be some action). Mature themes may be explored, and things like sex may come up from time to time (within reason...explicit stuff should fade to black or be handled in PMs).

This is the official OOC for this RP; a place for us to get to know each other and discuss the game and our characters. Feel free to contact me for any questions or additional info you would like me to provide.

At this time we will not be accepting Avalonian Characters.

The Ashford Manor itself is 3 stories tall and currently has enough dormitories to house just under 100 students, two to a room. The campus has a massive, beautiful courtyard that leads to the Victorian era cast iron gate. There are three main buildings on campus:

The Academy- Located in the center of the property, this is the academic and administrative hub of the campus. The majority of classrooms, offices, staff lodging, and medical services are located here. 

The Dormitories- Located to the left of the Academy, the dorms are separated into two halls; Summers Hall is where the male students live & Grey Hall is for female students. These two halls are connected in the middle by the impressive student lounge and cafeteria services. This is the social hub of the campus and is where the students get to know each other, as well as grow together as students of the institute.

The Training Center- Referred to as the "TC" for short, is located at the right end of the campus and is the largest of the three buildings. Inside there is a full length basketball court, Olympic sized pool, a state of the art gymnasium with all the cardio/strength equipment one could ever dream of; which of course can be converted into the secret and highly beneficial "Danger Room" where the gifted students can hone their skills and learn to control their powers. Outside of the TC there is also a football/soccer field, a tennis court, track, and an outdoor swimming pool as well that has a full grill and snack bar during the warmer seasons.

Dr. Malcolm Ashford is a man with a brilliant mind and a kind heart. He is a self made millionaire that has earned his fortune by building one of the world's most successful pharmaceutical companies; Ashford Pharmaceuticals. He is known to be slightly eccentric and very curious when it comes to humanity and evolution. He has been an avid supporter and benefactor of Charles Xavier's for years and over time they have become close friends. It is assumed that Dr. Ashford is a mutant though his powers are unknown and he normally will change the subject when it's brought up. Being a long time student of Charles Xavier and a believer in his vision of the world, Malcolm was the perfect choice to become Headmaster of the second official school and a safe haven for mutant kind.

Kaylee Everose is the Educational Director for the Ashford Institute for the Gifted, as well as the mathematics and science professor. She is in charge of overseeing the academic growth of all students and acts as second in command at the institute. She is sweet and intelligent, but she takes her business seriously and isn't afraid to show her more fiery side. Professor Everose's mutation gives her the ability to sense other mutant powers through aura detection, and given enough focus she can also use astral projection. She and Cole just started dating.

Adam Pierce is the type of man that doesn't smile very often. He is the "Athletics Director" of the institute, which really just means that he's the man in charge of training the gifted students and preparing them to become part of the X-Men. He is strict, harsh, standoffish, and stoic, but he sees the importance of his job and would do anything to protect his dear friends and fellow mutants among the staff; that means protecting the students as well and he does not take that job lightly. His mutation gives him the ability to memorize movements and stances that he observes, which he has used to master literally every known martial art in the world...as well as some unknown to most, even the most skilled and experienced martial artists. He has the heart of a soldier and the mind of a strategist and he holds a high expectation for his students. Let's hope you live up to it, or you'll end up on his bad side and that's not somewhere that you want to be. Mr. Pierce is also the resident advisor (RN) to Summers Hall, which is a part of his job that he hates...and honestly so do most of the male students that live there.

Lawrence Finn would describe himself as an old man that loves old things. He is the History & Geography Professor at the Institute and has the mutant ability to see the stories and memories of things that he touches, and he has one of the most impressive historical/antique collection outside of the Natural History Museum. He's a distraction prone older man that is passionate about history and absolutely despises today's technology. He's slightly off his rocker, but loves his job and hopes to show some of the school's youngsters that just because the past is old doesn't mean it's boring.

Tabby is the British bubbly, lovable, goofy, but bloody talented Professor of the Arts in the Institute. She's definitely unconventional as far as teachers go, and is only in her early 20s; making her one of the more relatable and favorable staff members to the students. She is fun loving and creative, and is also the resident advisor to Grey Hall. Her mutation gives her feline like abilities and features. The more she taps into them the more her physical body changes to look the part. She heightened senses and incredibly quick reflexes. Her self appointed code name is "Tabby Cat", and it's easy to see why.

Coleman, or Cole, is the security officer that we recently heighered to protect not only the students but the outside world. He is 33 and has worked security before, quite apparently. Nothing gets by him. He is a no nonsense firm man but not without compassion. His power is unknown at this time but Kaylee Everose indicated that he did have powers but what she wasn’t sure. He and Kaylee have just started dating.

Physical Description: Daniela weighs around 135 pounds and is around 5'11 in height. She normally wears a Black T-shirt and blue jeans with grey tennis shoes

Mutations: Ability to manipulate electricity, fire electrical blasts from her hands and absorb limited amounts of electricity.

Personality: Despite the recent circumstances that found her at the Ashford Institute for the Gifted, she has a somewhat questioning demeanor when it comes to new people. She's a bit uneasy around Mutants she's not familiar with due to the circumstances that brought her to the Ashford Institute.

Background: Daniela isn't really sure of the circumstances of how she was born or where she was born. She knows she was adopted after sneaking a look at some hospital papers that were carelessly left out one day while visiting the Doctor's office but every time the subject was brought up, it was swiftly dropped and the topic redirected. Eventually she simply came to the conclusion that her birth parents simply didn't want her and accepted that the family that raised her were the ones who truly loved and cared for her. Daniela had a fairly average childhood. She made a number of friends, graduated High school as an average student and as soon as she graduated she and a number of her friends set off on a summer road trip. 

Unknown to her at the time, this was a bad decision.

After loading up the car and turning up the radio, the three friends set off on their road trip and found themselves traveling across the country. They stopped in a number of famous cities until they eventually found themselves in New York. This was supposed to be the Highlight of the trip and for a few days it was. Looking back on it, Daniela found it was the last time she would have fun with her friends.

On the fourth day in New York, a battle erupted between a group of small-time meta-human villains and a few aspiring heroes who felt that civilian casualties were acceptable while trying to take down their villainous counterparts. One of Daniela's friends was killed when Daniela's vehicle was crushed by debris and Daniela herself was badly wounded when she was nearly crushed beneath a power pole. The wires on the power pole were sparking wildly as the battle raged nearby and Daniela could only watch in horror as the aspiring heroes were finally cut down and the villains turned their attention to the few survivors. Daniela could feel complete and utter terror rising up in her as one of them approached her and grinned down at her with a sadistic smile. 

It was at the moment that one of the live wires touched Daniela's back and moments later, a blast of electricity erupted from her where the wire had made contact. The last thing she remembered was a flash of light filling the area and a terrified expression on her would-be-killer's face. After waking up and managing to free herself, she found the charred bodies of four people nearby, including her other friend, two people she didn't know and the villain. 

Daniela immediately ran away and has been running from the authorities ever since.

Recap of your mutations awakening: Complete and utter terror and a jolt of electricity caused her mutant abilities to awaken. At the moment, she has little control over them and when under severe stress or terror she tends to completely lose control over her abilities and her power tends to explode outward.

Fit frame with broad shoulders
Two different colors eyes - one blue and one red, a mutation called heterochromia.  This has altered over time to where both eyes are nearly completely crimson.
Dark hair, beard
Various tattoos on his arms and back.
Dresses fairly casually.  Usually in blue jeans, a dark t-shirt, leather jacket, boots and often sunglasses to hide his eyes.

Mutations: His mutation is going to be in stages.  Right now, he knows he can't be burnt by flame. Eventually he's going to realize he has Pyrokinesis.  Finally, I want the stages of the mutation to end with him transforming into a demon-looking creature (triggered by anger or stress similar to The Hulk) that can command fire.

His powers are primarily fire-based.  He cannot burn, he can control fire, and he can project fire. Once he achieves full mutation, his second form just adds a bit of strength and resilience at the cost of willpower.

Personality:  Often sarcastic, analytical and initially more comfortable solo than in a group.  It takes some effort to earn Drake's trust, but once you do, you've got a friend for life.  Very loyal, willing to go to great lengths to keep his friends and family safe.

Background: Drake grew up in a normal environment.  He was born to fairly normal parents in Texas and has a twin brother, Shawn, who still lives there.  Shawn was definitely the favorite in the family and an overachiever to boot.  His twin brother is on the fast track to achieving his dream of getting a PhD while Drake has always felt more comfortable with a wrench in his hand.  While there was no real hard feelings between the brothers, Drake was tired of his parents' constant reminders of his brother's successes while Drake barely graduated high school and didn't even bother applying to colleges.  To get out from under his brother's shadow, Drake moved out of Texas and tried to start over elsewhere, becoming a bit of a nomad in search of a purpose.

Recap of your mutations awakening: Drake is not aware of the full potential he possesses.  One day while working as a mechanic at a small mom and pop shop, Drake received a new welding tank from the shop owners' vendor.  A client had come in requested that a new muffler be welded onto his truck.  Drake ignited the torch and suddenly the tank exploded.  The shop went up in flames and engulfed Drake's body.  Initially in shock and screaming out of instinct, it wasn't long before Drake realized he wasn't actually hurting.  In disbelief and panic, he ran through the flames and out to the street, slapping at the scorched remains of his clothes to pat out the fire.  Firefighters were soon on the scene and emergency medical personnel pulled Drake toward their ambulance and tried to screen him for injuries.  To the shock of everyone, there were none.  Other than Drake's clothes, he suffered no burns at all despite being in the heart of the explosion.  It was obvious to him and his onlookers that something wasn't right.  Drake was not normal.  With a look of fear and shame, Drake shoved passed EMS and took off running down the street toward the parking lot where he left his motorcycle.  It was time to fill a backpack with what little he owned and move again...

Jasper Phoenix has never been the most kind girl. She’s always had borderline cruel jokes and remarks for those around her, pushing those she speaks to away. Shame is a foriegn concept, for she who would do anything to survive. Everything from theft, to sex, to extortion is on the table - and likely hasn’t been skipped. 

Impulsive. Intelligent. Introverted. 
She grew up on books and educational programming - when there was a television around to watch it on. A quick study, and always good with numbers before her awakening. However, Jasper has never been good with people. She dislikes being around crowds, and using sarcasm to hide her social shortcomings. 

Determined. Defiant. Devoted. 
It’s not very often that Jasper meets a challenge she won’t face head on. If it probably won’t kill her, she won’t stop until she gets it over with. This persistence is applied to everything from getting an apartment, to hacking into secure servers. People? Maybe not so much. More often than not, when she’s told not to do something, that’s exactly what she does. She’ll do almost anything for her friends though. 

Background

”There’s nothing special about me”

That’s what Jasper would tell you if she was asked. Abandoned as a small child. Bounced from foster home to foster home. Bullied at school. Great grades though. Yet, nothing out of the ordinary. 

What she would never tell you is how she ended up in foster care to begin with. Middle of winter on a school night, Jasper says goodnight to her dad - moms already dead and in the ground. When she woke up, he was gone with half his clothes, all the money in the house, and his passport. She stayed home for two days before the school called the police, worried about the little girl who never came in. They found her cuddled up in bed with a book. 

That wasn’t the first time he vanished on her. 

”It was the last.”

Not long after they found her, little Jasper was thrown into the system. She didn’t get along well with other kids and kept to herself mostly. Half the parents themselves weren’t the best in the first place. 

”If I went to school, I could have stayed with Dad, and that would have been better than those fucks.”

She was fourteen, freshly returned from the hospital back to the ‘perfect’ house that was her current foster home. Dinner was left in the microwave, but she hadn’t bothered with it. She wasn’t hungry as is, even though her antibiotics would make her sick without food. Jasper flopped into bed with her laptop that night. It was plugged in, for fear of it dying while she was gaming with her few internet friends. 

”Don’t game during lightning storms kids. Might get electrocuted.”

She felt the shock, before she fell back in bed. The surge had killed the power to the block, but Jasper was sparking with electricity. Luckily no one came to find her until the next morning, when she was rousing into wakefulness. She knew what she’d seen, but didn’t know what she could do quite yet. 

”Never gone to bed hungry since. Look at the bright side, right?”

It was one of her foster brothers - the biological child of her temporary parents - who found her sparking in her room. She’d sat up by then, but it was time for them to leave for school and nobody was about to let her stay home. She didn’t know what was going on, or how to stop the tingling in her nerves, but when he touched her, it was as if he touched a live wire. He went to the hospital, and she moved out that day. 

”Best decision I ever made.’

For the next two years, Jasper spent her time learning on her own. Her nights were filled with numbers and practice, her days with ridding herself of the sparks. She managed to blackmail a landlord into letting her move in, and did what she could for rent. She dropped out of school before she was sixteen, because she knew she couldn’t go to class like this. The Ashford institute found her shortly after she turned seventeen. One of their firewalls had caught her snooping into them, checking the place out to see if it was really for the best. 

”I didn’t have much choice after that.”

She’s been there for several months since. 

Awakening

A bolt of lightning shocked one of the nearby towers, and she was electrocuted by the shock. Technically she died, but that awakened her latent mutant genes, and sparked her back to life. Literally.

Here is a character.  I hope it is alright.  Let me know if it isnt and if I need to change anything.

Physical Description: 

Jack is six foot tall, weights one hundred and ninety pounds.  Normally wears tank tops and shorts.  Loose clothing that can be changed easily.  Sometimes wearing special made gear that can withstand his own power. Given to him by the institute quite recently so it is still out there whether or not his gear can fully withstand his powers.

Mutations:
Spider Powers, and half spider transformation with superior strength.
What Jacks mutation is he has the abilities of a spider while also able to transform parts of his body into that of a 'spider' like limbs.  Going to transforming into a half person half spider like creature. 

Jack in his regular state can shoot webs and has above average strength.  Its just a bit more then a standard human.  He can out match normal humans, but Jack can easily be out matched by people with 'super' strength. He can lift around five hundred pounds on his own.  He also has heighten senses.  He can 'sense' danger that comes near him, giving him a very brief moment to dodge.
Also in his 'regular' human state, his arms have web sacks that can shoot spider webs that can hold his own weight and about fifty pounds a bit more then himself.  More webs can hold more weight but he still has to find something to hold onto the webs or else they or whatever is attached to the webs can get dragged away.  Jack can also spit out webs from his mouth, its normally weaker but can hold a few things down.   Jack can also spit out a venom that can paralyze normal people.  Generally has no effect on mutants as he has recently found out.  At most it can make people feel very 'numb', or blind them very shortly if he spits it into the eyes.

Jack can also shift his body into spider like monstrous looking forms.  While also able to grow more limbs to make himself as close to a spider.  This a bit risky for Jack to do, as while it can slightly increase his strength.  The more spider like the greater his abilities get, but the more he turns into a spider the more control he tends to lose.  Transforming an arm or both doesnt show too much, but when he starts growing limbs and transforming the rest of his body.  He starts getting more animal like.
He can grow up to three other limps and turn his arms into spider like arms. Growing eight eyes, and turning his skin into a black shell like skin.  Almost completely like the exoskeleton of a spider.  Even can grow a spider stinger.

He can control when he transforms, but it gets harder with to keep in control the more he transforms and the more he turns into the spider form.  He will transform more when he gets into the spider form more.  As it takes over more he is drawn into transforming more.  Also his emotions also  detect how fast he transforms as well. 
When he is happy, and generally alright, he doesnt transform at  all.  but anger, stress and sadness causes the transformation to happen rather quickly.  There is a worry that extreme anger, or sadness could cause an instant tranformation to the full monster spider form.

Spider Form powers Uncontrollable powers
---Limited Use only.-- 

The full spider form isn't controllable by Jack at all. He turns into a monster looking like a half spider human monster, that is just a beast.  Controlled by a predator animistic mind.  It will attack anything it feels that is its prey, and also do anything to protect itself.  The full spider form, stands somewhere at 7 feet tall, and weighs somewhere around four hundred pounds
His strength is increased to that where he can just barely smack a car around.  With all six legs, and his own two other arms, he can move up to the same speed as a car at fifteen miles an hour.  His web swinging is very much limited in this form.  His spider webs cannot support his weight to swing more then twenty feet.  But he can climb on walls still and stick to ceilings with ease.

He also loses the ability to spit poison, but he can still spit webs, more in a spray of webbing, the longer he sprays people with webbing the stronger/thicker it gets.  The poison spit is gone but he has a poison stinger which can paralyze a normal person up to an hour.  He can paralyze some mutants for ten minutes.  Those with high healing abilities are normally still immune but the stinger does cause them to sting.  If it doesnt stab them too hard.

Personality:

Jack is a cocky person and makes lots of jokes.  Likes to make jokes and make light of things.  There are a few things he does take seriously.  One is when he is using his man spider form.  If loses control, he will going into more of a depression like mode regretting taking the form and doing anything that he did when he lost control. 

Background: 
Jack is from Las Vegas, Nevada.  Jack's powers didn't emerge he was eighteen.  A bit of a 'late' bloomer with the mutation powers.  At first it was just spider man like powers except with the ability to change his limps to look more 'spider' like to increase strength, agility, and speed.  He used his increased inhuman abilities to fight in underground caged fighting.

Making money off of either going on long stretches of winning and then throwing fights to make a living.   Jack wasn't found originally by the X-men, he was found by the brotherhood.  He was given offers to join up with them, but he refused three times.  The fourth time was when he was nineteen old a week before his twentieth birthday. The fourth time wasn't taken very well, and he was going to be taken by force or killed.  Jack fought them off but had to go and transform fully into the man spider for the first time.  He lost control.  He fought off the Brotherhood recruiter but also started to attack civilians. He was stopped and brought down by the X-men.  Thankfully Jack didn't hurt or kill anyone that was a civilian 

He didnt regain consciousness until after his twentieth birthday, almost a week and half later.  He woke up with in the Ashford institute.  Was given a opportunity to stay and learn how to control his powers.  While also gaining protection, while also getting the man spider off the streets after the sight of a big spider like man went havoc Las Vegas. Given not much of a choice Jack decided to stay, and now has been in the institute less then a month.  Not many people know he had powers, the people only know they have seen the man spider form.   Other then that he is just known as a cage fighter.

Physical Description: Marcus is about six feet tall, and has an athletic build. He normally wears multiple layerswhen no training. 
Mutations: Geokinesis
Geokinesis is the ability of earth manipulation. However Marcus's goes beyond simply manipulating the earth. He can also make it apart of him. Revealing a couple subsects of powers. 
His earthen forms are only partial, similar to Tremor from Mortal Kombat. (I will be using him for refrence images to explain Earthen Forms)

The basic earthen form is the most basic form, as well as the most well rounded. It is the form that allows the most Earth Manipulation.


The metalic form is Marcus's most durable form. Able to whitsand most attacks, including energy attacks. Limited metal manipulation outside of himself. Weak to magnetism.

The Molten form is rarely used by Marcus. Molten rock is harder to maipulate. As such, the Molten Form has very high damage output, but Marcus has next to no control of the magma once it leave his body.

Personality: Marcus is shameless. He doesn't like people telling him what he can and can't do. Almost to the point that if someone tells him he can't do something, he will almsot definitly try and do it anyway. He is often finding himself in trouble, and often refusing to acknodlge how serious it is. 
He has a thing for regection and strong women. 
Nothing embrasses Marcus. Hell, one time he showed up to class naked, and just thought it was one of those dreams until he got sent to Malcom's office.

Background: Marcus was born in San Andres. His parents didn't want him. An unplanned teenage pregancy. She was religous and against abortion, so he was put in the system when he was born. Moving from foster home to foster hom for most of his childhood, had done a number on him. He did things he regreted when he was sixteen, getting involved in crimnal netowrks that nearly ended hiim up in juvy. 
After his powers emerged, when he was seventeen, he broke away and never looked back. Managed to bribe a support worker to have him transfered out of state with the money he stole from the gang. 
It didn't get much better for the next year. After which, they threw him to the curb, where he had to look after himself. 
Thats when he found the Ashford Institute for the Gifted. 

Recap of your mutations awakening: Everyone thought it was just a regular earthquake. When they found Markus, they thought he should surely be dead, but he as fine. Miraculaly the building came down in a bubble around him.

Physical Description: Marcus is about six feet tall, and has an athletic build. He normally wears multiple layerswhen no training. 
Mutations: Geokinesis
Geokinesis is the ability of earth manipulation. However Marcus's goes beyond simply manipulating the earth. He can also make it apart of him. Revealing a couple subsects of powers. 
His earthen forms are only partial, similar to Tremor from Mortal Kombat. (I will be using him for refrence images to explain Earthen Forms)

The basic earthen form is the most basic form, as well as the most well rounded. It is the form that allows the most Earth Manipulation.

@Eviledd1984Keep in mind that you are fairly young and still getting used to your powers. Also keep in mind how your character will fit in with the rest of the characters.
