. . .

Nodding as an acknowledgement, it took Nira a moment to realize that Femus wasn't moving right after he had finished speaking. It was mildly surprising after already seeing him take action more often then not, but she didn't have the time to recognize that his tone of voice and this were a sign of uncertainty.

Taking the lead, Nira activated Muffle I almost as second nature and looked for the closest trees that would provide better cover before taking off at a moderate pace away from the goblins line of sight. She neither wanted to move too fast to follow, or fast enough to attract attention.

Ardur The Mighty Hipixie
Game plan > Once More unto the breach /// Adventuring day 5 // Late Afternoon >> Evening / Location - Forest >>> Cave Entrance

“Do you wish to receive this Quest? Y/N”

He answered with a mental and verbal, “I accept” taken back shortly. Ardur pondered what it might mean and wondered if it could have something to do with his new skill Lesser Cleanse. The quest itself specified purifying an item and he did not have the water or materials to do it that way. Only thing he thought to be concerned about was just how much mana it would take and how much he had left, not to mention what item to do it on.

Ardur noticed again while he spoke last that the two seemed to be talking to each other like soldiers would talk to each other with body language and hand signals. Perhaps they were using some form of telepathy like the kind Jason used on him just the other day. This would definitely be something to look into later, right now he had no way to tell what skill or spell was being used all he could do was concentrate on them when it happened and maybe he would get some sort of skill from it.

Again, the Templar spoke this time answering his questions regarding transformation and evolution. 3 weeks to a month to reach maturity for most goblins, then 3 to 6 months for adult and a year to their first transformation. However, on average 2 or 3 years until they peak. All of it is useful information however, for him all it did was raise more questions about himself and where he stands on the subject. They are growing rather quickly, two weeks to maturity, three days to transformation. Clearly their growth was simply another off thing.

Before long, it seemed it was time to go back to that cave that was at one time their home. Right when they were beginning to leave Ardur decided on what item he would attempt to purify that may help at least him out the most. Casting Lesser Cleanse I on his Bone Breastplate in an attempt to purify it. This would tell him if he could purify something like this or if he would have to do it during item creation. Whatever the outcome, the High pixie would then focus his efforts on Meditation I while they walked to regain mana. Being in the company of the two humans made him drop his guard for now.

Assessing that the cave entrance was safe, if not a little gloomy, He again sat down and attempted to use Meditation I. This was his way of preparing both his mana and his mind for the fight ahead. Zieglar seemed to be busy giving Trent a pep talk and final bits of advice. Sure, he was a squire but even the mightiest kings need some words of encouragement sometimes.

Having finished what he could for mana recovery, Ardur joined the others at the mouth of the cave Steve In toe. The boy’s plan was rather simple and hopefully would prove effective in the given terrain of tight tunnels and rocky outcroppings. “Alright Steve, do as the nice human here asks and if you get too hurt come back to me. Focus your web and that eye of yours on slowing the enemy down and entangling them. Asura you might want to go over the plan with Mother Slime again just to make sure she understands her role. But I’m ready when you are.” Holding the beetle mandible in his right hand.

"You heard me." Digbie's voice was calm again, but bore a striking cold to it. If this was his inner eighth grader, then gosh the stuff he drew was dark. If the rest of the group didn't know any better, Digbie's voice would reasonably terrifying, almost to such an extent that he was dead serious about wanting to get these goblins to do his bidding. "If you guys want to prove yourself to me, you will release this goat after my friends and I return to the safety of our shelter. After that, you will kill it, and... bring me its head." Digbie's heart sank as he continued. He didn't want to see the goat die, but at the same time, these goblins were nothing but trouble. Surely, Jehanne wasn't going to cast him aside for this?

"If you bring the head of that goat to me, then it will show that you are strong enough for me to come with you. If you don't, then I guess that this was a waste of everybody's time." Digbie took the trousers off the ground, kicked off his flimsy Grass Skirt that he didn't need anymore, and pulled the trousers up over his goblinoid legs. Of course, they were oversized and flimsy, but still they seemed to be a little better than the skirt Digbie was wearing before this. Still, he'd check them out with Material, Magical, and Plant Analysis. Hopefully he could tell something was a bit better with these pants. He also did the same for the Cap, placing it on over his head carefully as to not have the Yill on it previously hurt. Surprisingly, the Yill poked right out from underneath the hat, almost like a small tuft of bangs.

<UNEQUIPPED - REAR> Grass Skirt <Poor>

<EQUIPPED - REAR> Dusty Trousers <??>
<EQUIPPED - HEAD^2> Dusty Cap <??>
System : Digbie

Digbie looked at Rags from underneath the cap, the dark shadow casting a scowl over his eyes, which seemed to glow against the darkness, possibly from some magical influence due to his Mana Affinity. Either that or Digbie was somehow putting some magical energy into his scowl only for looks. "We will be waiting, Rags Nar."

Digbie turned to face the shelter, and looked at his friends. He ushered for them to follow into the shed with him, a slightly worried expression on his face. If everyone decided to go in, Digbie'd block the door with an Earth Wall II, just to make sure that Rags and the gaggle couldn't get in. Digbie even sent out a pulse with Tremor Sense III, hoping Torrent caught on and hurried back inside the shelter too so Digbie could explain his plan.

~Temporary Campsite~

This was...going surprisingly well. Ash was further impressed with Digbie's handling of the situation. Perhaps he was more than just a naive seeming goblin. If they could kill themselves fighting the goat, then they could handle the goat themselves. On the chance they killed the goat, they could pick off the weakened goblin. A suitable plan that achieved their goal with the least amount of work on their end, supposing they went through with it. The only thing she'd have done differently is watch for amusement.

Hm, perhaps...?

Breathing out, Ash turned her scaly face towards the goblins.

"...I'll stay behind and watch, to make sure they don't do anything...treacherous." She said to Digbie, making well sure the other goblins could hear her. A little more fear and confusion wouldn't be a bad thing at the moment. Gripping the spear in her tail, Ash made herself comfortable in front of the den, watching the goblins with mild interest. It'd get her some much useful information on goblins in general, as well as this goat. Activating Mana Sense, Mana Vision, and all of her other Analytic skills, Ash watched the area from her perch.

Asteria

Soft flesh cushioned her impact, and Asteria swore she could hear the faint creaking of suffering bones from her enemy’s torso. Though they’d tackled it from behind, the bastard still managed to lash with an arrow at Mother Rat, harming her and causing her to back away. Still holding the arrow as if it were a dagger, the goblinoid twisted around, trying to grab at her with one hand and stab her with the other. Using her whole body weight, Asteria shifted to pin its torso down even more harshly, and intercepted the attack with her own paws, knocking the grabbing hand away with a clawed attack, while grabbing the arrow-armed one by the wrist. Instead of letting it come to a contest of strength, however, the dire rat tightened her tail around the Bloodingfly stinger she’d kept ahold of ever since 'equipping' it after her conversation with the gnome, and drove the pointy end swiftly towards the green-skinned archer's neck!

Torrent watched on from her position, extending her power further into the ground beneath her to loosen up the area in case she needed to dig. As Digbie made his plan, however, an idea of her own came to mind. She couldn't risk showing herself and joining her friends in their den, nor did it seem that Ash was inclined to follow anyways, but she knew what Digbie wanted.

Make them weaken themselves. It wasn't so different from when she'd killed those goblins before the big fight with Rattleskull. And hadn't these goblins thought she was some great demon last time when they couldn't see her? Keeping her stealth skills going she spoke up.

"A sacrifice, yessss," she hissed loud enough for her words to reach the goblins ears. "Yessss, prove yourselves worthy. Prove your strength."

Oberon’s analysis of the Goblin didn’t return anything particularly interesting, unfortunately; aside from the fact that this specific Goblin was even weaker to fire than normal and that he didn’t have any magical skills in progress there wasn’t much of note. He did appear to have some physical skills and his equipment was better than his peers, but as long as they kept their distance from him they should be okay. Of course, that what easier said than done; he would have an easier time of it due to his wings but the others, especially Digbie, didn’t have such an advantage; except for Ash, but Oberon wasn’t sure if her wings were the kind better suited to gliding or not. In any case it would probably be best if he tried to gain and keep the sword Goblin’s attention and distract him from the others if a fight broke out.

He seemed to be doing a good job of that already with the way the Goblin was glaring at him, the little green humanoid even flexing his fingers around the hilt of the oversized sword as if he wanted to use it. Was it because Oberon was moving around them, potentially flanking them, or could he tell that he was gathering Mana in some way? The Sprite stopped walking and also ceased gathering light in case the Goblin could sense it in some way, unaware of the subtle glow his wings gave off as they drew in sunlight. Things seemed to be going well so far and he didn’t want to do anything to change that. Hopefully the Mana he had would be enough, if it was needed at all.

Digbie was handling things well enough.

Speaking of which, their representative starting speaking again, dragging Oberon’s attention back to the current discussion, and gave the order to release the goat again. This time he made his intentions clearer, ordering Rags and his group to release and kill the goat as a sacrifice and present it to Digbie as an offering. More than that they would have to fight it first, potentially weakening themselves in the process and at the very least removing a complicating factor from the situation in the form of one belligerent mammal.

It wasn’t a bad idea; the worst outcome was that Rags refused and ordered his followers to attack, but considering they all at least expected something like that to happen they wouldn’t be caught off guard. The only problem Oberon had was the fact that none of them would be able to see what Rags was doing while they were in the shelter and who knew what kind of tricks he might pull. The Sprite was planning on staying outside the shelter as a result, retreating to the branches of a nearby tree instead of heading underground with the others, but Ash beat him to it by offering to keep watch.

Well, it would be interesting to see how they reacted to a talking Pygmy Drake.

As the Demi-Goblin ushered him towards the shelter Oberon followed, stopping next to Ash long enough to cast Shield IV on the Pygmy Drake as a precaution. “They’re weak to fire, especially the one with the sword, so use that if you have to.” The Sprite followed Digbie into the shelter, the Earth Wall closing up the entrance behind them, and he waited to see what would happen next. Using the time he had he used Meditation to restore the rest of his Mana.

Monster Party

As Digbie and Oberon made their way into the shelter, the Goblins couldn't hear what the Sprite said to Ash. They had, however, noticed her spear floating with Lesser Force before she grabbed it with her tail, and the two on the hilltop were muttering about it among themselves while the one with the sword just looked back and forth at Rags Nar nervously. When the Pygmy Drake spoke the group reacted with shock, Rags Nar taking a step back and putting one hand on his dagger. When Torrent once again tried to throw her voice from her hiding place, the greenies nearly jumped out of their skin.

"Da big demons again!?" Rags Nar said incredulously, now rubbing his ear with his other hand. Mahya moved behind the goblin with the rusty sword and looked around nervously. However, up on top of the hill, the goblin with the animal pelts had begun looking around...he lingered near Torrent's hiding place, but as of yet he wasn't looking directly at her. He did, however, seem quite suspicious...

"Oi, what...what is you?" The goblin with the sword spoke for the first time now, pointing at Ash with his weapon. "You's da Demigob's pet, right? Den how comes you talks! Speaks Gob, even! And what kinda magics youse got?"

With the "door" closed up, Digbie and Oberon hadn't seen or heard any of this take place except for the yelps when Torrent did her best evil spirit impression. They were left to sit and wait.

Meanwhile, Rags Nar gave Ash a sharp look before finally heading up the hill, back to his goat. As he approached the creature he pulled his knife from its sheath.

"Ain't no reason to let it go if'n's I's just gonna kill it!" he said, warily getting closer to the creature. It stamped its hooves and lowered its head, even though its horns were still blunted with pieces of soft wood. "And ain't no reason to kill it if he just wants to lets it go! Demigob ain't makin' no sense!" He turned and shouted to the air. "Big Demons! If yas can hear me, den tells me what I gots ta do! I wanna gets big powah like da Demigob! Tell me how ta make sense of all dis stuff he be doin'!"

Whether by divine providence, or simple weather patterns, at that moment a white, fluffy cloud happened to roll across the mountain tops and in front of the sun. The little campsite was cast in a gray hue...

Yo! You have reached the Demon King's Prayer Hotline. Please hold, your prayers are NOT important to me.

I kindly request that you STOP IMMEDIATELY. Do not EVER pray to me again. Prayers are for deities and I don't want that kinda fuckin' responsibility. This is an automated response system, do not reply to it or I'll send somebody to fuck you up.

--Beep--

--No, no I wanna get this one, it doesn't count as a prayer. Shut the fuck up, he's on the two way now. No spoilers. Ahem.

Congratulations on being the first to attempt using the equivalent of the Help page without making a ceremony of it. You must be one of the ones who played the vidya and read the mangos. Unfortunately for you, I'm not one of those divine bitches that take the fun out of everything so their little boy toys can run around fucking everything up for whoever's not the first girl they see. You don't get Cheats, you aren't some kind of talented prodigy, and that's the way I want it. Unless circumstances get considerably more dire, don't ever expect me to bail you out.

Yes, I brought you here. Do I owe you help? Is it my responsibility to help? Do I need to help you in order to get you to pay me back by doing what I want? The answers to all of those questions are irrelevant. The only fact that matters is that I am, in all likelihood, not going to do a damn thing until you either get to my Palace or find a more direct way to contact me.

That said, I will at least point this out just cause you seem like the type to ragequit otherwise. Much like everything the "System" tells you, you'd figure this out on your own if you could stand "inconvenience." The skill's called Spiritual Awareness, not Rocket Science. Obviously ghosts are real here. So maybe you need to make a call.

Just don't call me again. From here on, you'll only get my automated responses until you...hit some milestones, let's say. If you trigger my anti-prayer measures, you will have the WORST time. Hopefully I'll be seeing you in person before the end of the next fuckin' decade.
System:Asura

"You...what?!" Even Zieglar's visor couldn't hide the shock in his voice when Asura explained that he had chosen from a handful of options to Transform. "But if...how...Does this mean...?" The knight loosened the strap around his helmet and shook his head as if he were getting a headache. Trent seemed bothered much the same, but only bit his lip.

"A Kilm Blossom is a flower with sour smelling buds, and colorful flowers. A Cushiwog mushroom is red, with green spots that look slimy. Both of them have healing properties an alchemist or magic user can use to make potions and things."

As Asura tried to "sense" something beyond his physical sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch, he became aware of two other senses that normally weren't taken into consideration--the sense of one's own bodily positions in relation to oneself, and the sense of one's orientation in space. But aside from a Zen-like mindfulness, being aware of these senses didn't really seem to change anything. Would he need to do some kind of meditation to unlock Spiritual Awareness? Maybe once he entered the cave he would be able to grind it on the undead creatures somehow.

When he suggested a torch, Trent nodded a retrieved one from his pack--it looked like he had at least three in there, along with various other things needed for a short camping trip or scouting excursion.

You used Lesser Cleanse on the Bone Breastplate!

The Bone Breastplate has been Cleansed. The lingering energies of Death were already beginning to fade, and now they are gone. The Bone Breastplate has also been slightly sterilized.

There was no notice about a Purified item or the completion of the Quest for Ardur. What other method might he try? But, it would probably have to wait for a bit--now that Trent was lighting the torch, it was time to go.

As the little group stepped forth into the darkness, they could see that the Cave had not changed too much from the last time they had been in it. The holes in the ceiling were all plugged up, so the darkness was much deeper. That oppressive aura had gotten worse. But...

Everything was silent.

Every so often, there were lights...or were there? Were they Wisps, or just tricks of the eye in the halo from their torch? The temperature, too, had chilled.

"The World Echo's a little stronger than it was before." Trent whispered, as they made their way further from the entrance. The walls seemed so much more oppressive in the darkness, somehow. If Asura and Ardur could remember the general layout of the cave, they would know that they were heading, roughly, towards the Goblin Bonfire now...

Suddenly, two eerie green flashes buzzed from near the ceiling--as if they were spotlights watching the entrance. When the Ghost Wisps came zooming down, at the party's feet something in the darkness hissed and came lunging at them!

Rat Party

The Kobold's skull gave way with a crunch as Ed finished it off. As he ran towards the other side of the cart where that Hobgoblin had just been slain by the swordsman, said adventurer was coming out into the middle of the road. He raised his weapon as Ed approached, but before he could swing the seemingly deranged Ratman just bolted past him. Turning back to the fray, he saw that the fatter human bandit had just reached the road and was heading towards the dueling spearman and helmeted attacker. The tall swordsman cast one more glance back at the Ratman--who now appeared to be savaging the Hobgoblin's body and stealing its weapons--and then took off towards this newest opponent.

The cart driver had recovered his injury, reloaded his sling, and taken aim at this point. The fat bandit ducked down as a stone whistled over his head, and now saw the swordsman coming. He held his big knife in both hands out in front of him, arms shaking.

The spearman deflected a slash from the sword, leveraging his own weapon against its edge. With a circling motion he tried to disarm the armored bandit, but the man slammed his shield against the spear and backed away. Now Ed came screaming across the dirt road once again, his roars attracting the attention of both humans.

Skill Gain: Warcry I (0.8>1.0)!
Unleash a loud, violent roar that causes enemies to shift their focus to you.
System:Ed

With the Ratman's greater brute strength, and the power of his Rabid Fit, he swung the jawbone sword hard enough to knock the human off balance. The next hit forced the man to move his shield off center to deflect it. The third shattered Ed's newly pilfered weapon, the bone splintering into several fragments though it did leave him with the stick handle. The spearman immediately took advantage of this opening, thrusting hard at his opponent's chest. The bandit managed to move at the last moment, but the spear still took him lower in the side. It had a hard time piercing the layered gambeson he wore, though dark red blossomed through the garment. The bandit screamed and drew back, taking a more conservative stance.

"Hunter! Fucking shoot them, you green idiot!" he yelled, glancing over towards the barrow. But the only projectile he saw was the next Mana Orb the mage finished casting from the wagon--he got his shield up just in time, but he couldn't defend from three attackers at once, could he...?

Meanwhile, Asteria manage to claw the Hobgoblin's hand as it reached for her, then grabbed onto the hand with the arrow using both forepaws. Though she might have been a match in terms of pure muscular strength, the Hobgoblin had the advantage of leverage...closer and closer the arrowhead came, and then the greenskin added his other arm to the first. But, just as its point scraped Asteria's cheek, drawing a long line of blood down her snout, she thrust her tail forward! The needle-like probiscus in its muscular grip stabbed into the greenskin's throat and pushed deep--it coughed and choked and stumbled backwards, scrabbling at the improvised weapon now piercing both its windpipe and jugular. It actually managed to break the needle off and pull it out--which only increased the speed of blood jettisoning out of its neck. With a gurgle, the creature fell to the stained grass. Mother Rat leaped onto the body, savaging it a bit more just for good measure, before she rushed back to Asteria and licked at the wound on her face. Now, how was Ed getting along out there...?

Deep Forest

While staying very aware of the huge tribe of goblins down below, Nira and Femus made their way among the treetops. They traveled from branch to branch, hiding among the leaves and attempting to keep all noise to a minimum. On the occasion they glanced back at the horde of greenskins to be sure they weren't being followed, they began to observe that all of the combatants of the tribe had been divvied up. That one with the longer hair and the sword seemed to be leading several more Goblins who were also on the scrawny or slouchy side--knives and what may have been throwing darts seemed to feature in a lot of their weaponry, and as they took off into the woods at a different angle to all the other groups, they were much stealthier. The big hairy goblin who looked like he might be as likely to attack his own allies as anything else had been placed in charge of other goblins who mostly just carried simple weapons like clubs or big rocks, without nearly as much variety in his group as there had been in the others. The goblin that wore armor and had another type of wooden sword had been placed in charge of a tight-knit group of greenies holding long, sharpened sticks. They looked like an imitation of some kind of actual military formation, but they had none of the associated discipline and, when they tried to march out ahead of the other groups, almost stabbed their fellows with their own weapons due to how out of sync, clumsy, and belligerent they were. Both the Hobgoblin and the Redcap had picked out the most experienced and well armed members they could find, although it almost seemed like they had been picked out to counter each other's weaknesses as much as any enemy's. Maybe that just meant they were going to cover for each other's weak spots, but given the usual relationship those two had it didn't seem likely.

Soon the goblins were marching off through the woods, to the west. Were they heading towards the place where that explosion had come from yesterday?

Nira and Femus made it to that big tree in the center of the clearing without encountering any other creatures. It seemed the gathering of goblins had probably kept many critters in their hidey holes this morning. As they drew close, a pastoral fragrance filled their nostrils. The air itself simply felt cleaner and richer. It was almost like they were walking out from under a cloud, as the grass around the tree's roots seemed greener, the flowers sprouting in its shade brighter. Moss grew all over the tree's surface, but it didn't seem to be parasitic in nature or damaging the great plant at all. It was incredibly broad and tall, reaching far above the other trees in this part of the forest.

And yet, despite all of this wondrous beauty, there was also a sense of looming danger. As if they were walking next to a sleeping giant...

Skill Gain: Alert I (0.9 > 1.0)!
Though this skill is limited by the strength of your senses, and does not sharpen your senses on its own, it allows you to become more aware of your surroundings. TRANSFORMATION OPTIONS (* Indicates Suitability):
***(Adult) Wisp - More magical manifestation than biological creatures, Wisps nonetheless possess physical bodies. Their ability to cast spells from range makes them a foe that should not be underestimated by the novice. Wisps are magically oriented monsters, normally possessing two spells.

  • Slight increase to all Base Stats
  • Increase HP
  • Increase Potential

*(Immature) Poltergeist - This monster is still fueled by Magic, but its hold on the physical world has become stronger. Though its chubby, infantile body isn't particularly large, its grasping limbs, levitation ability, and its manipulation magic make it quite the prankster. However, its defensive abilities don't grow as fast as some other species. For the already physically frail mage-types, this can be a dangerous weakness.

  • Gain Arms w/Hands, Legs w/Feet, Head w/Eyes and Mouth
  • Increase base power-stats (reduced)
  • Increase Lesser Force (reduced)

***(Immature) Mana Spirit - A straightforward transformation for the Wisp, increasing their mastery over the fundamental spells that they use for their base interactions. At the same time, their physical body becomes more unstable. Rather than saying the body is weaker, it is more like...the fundamental self becomes more subject to change. Many mistake these creatures for true Spirit-type Undead, or Ghosts, due to their appearance.

  • Increase base Magic stats.
  • Increase Lesser Force (reduced)
  • Increase Mana Orb (reduced)

(Immature) Slime Mage - An unusual transformation for a Wisp. Their spherical body swells almost grotesquely, and they develop a slimy membrane as their former body dissolves. Slimes are normally of limited intelligence, but every so often one somehow learns magic. With its poor magic stats its casts are limited in number, but few expect a Slime to have such abilities. Having transformed from a Wisp instead, however, a Slime Mage's magic might be much more effective.

  • Increase all base Defense Stats
  • Increase Mana Orb (reduced)
  • Increase Shield (reduced)

NEW! **(Immature) Sparklight - A Wisp-like Monster that has adapted to Lightning elemental energies. Though its magical stats do not change much at all, its entire being becomes electrically charged. In the way that moths are attracted to flames, Sparklights often find themselves drawn to metal or other sources of magnetic interaction. They are often more aggressive than regular Wisps.

  • Increase base movement stats.
  • Increase Shock Round (reduced)
  • Increase Lightning Affinity (reduced)

Farmstead

"Ah..." Gwyn still seemed a little wary, but a flicker of amusement passed over her face as well while Scott stammered and fidgeted. "Well, you're definitely not the same as any other Monster, are you? Even Miiba doesn't talk that much." While the Pixie caught his breath she answered his first question. "As to where we are...This forest is usually just called the Westwood by the locals. I think the Dwarves had a name for it, as did some others, but to most of us Humans it's just a regular place full of trees." She shifted the baby to the other side and adjusted her gown. "The kingdom we live in is called Viskard. There are a few villages, down south in the Alpin grasslands or further north along the rivers, but the closest real town here is Westlake--which is to our east, actually. We're considered to be sort of, on the frontier."

When Scott talked about bleeding out, and his insecurity, Gwyn's eyes became softer and she nodded slowly.

"I don't know as much as my husband, but I have heard the stories. People, who sometimes became Heroes and other times Sages, who were brought here from another world. I can't imagine what that's like, being thrown into a place you have no understanding of...especially when you're shoved into a body that's not yours." Scott apologized, and thanked the family for their hospitality--and for their care of Miiba. Now the woman's face did warm up, and with her free hand she warmly patted Scott's head. The gesture might have seemed somewhat infantile, but then again he was only a foot tall.

"You're very welcome. If you and Miiba really aren't Monsters, then you're certainly our guests. And at this point, I find it easier and easier to believe that you have been...transformed, somehow."

It was at that point that Miiba and Reuben were asking Mira about the possibility of a "curse." The conversation drew attention from the elder sister, Clarice. The younger girl, Alice, stood next to the window with Geir watching the Guild Hawk fly away, her face full of wonder watching its pretty white feathers. The adventurer, on the other hand, turned around and leaned against the windowsill with his arms crossed. He still hadn't stopped glaring at the two Monsters.

"A Curse that turned them into Monsters?" Mira put a finger on her chin as she stopped to consider this. "There are certainly different ways to shapeshift, and powerful illusions...but I don't know if a Spell like that could be permanent...unless..." She finally shook her head. "I'm sorry, Miiba. I don't think it's impossible, but I do find it quite unlikely." She turned her eyes to the ceiling. "But...maybe we could get in contact with some people who might know more? We'll ask Mr. Lear--"

"None of your Analysis skills picked up on anything about a Curse, Mira." Geir spoke up. "And Reuben, you shouldn't be putting ideas in their heads like that. What if they find a way to shift themselves into a Human form instead--and then there are disguised Demonspawn walking around in town?"

"B-but, if it was Miiba, I don't think she'd do anythin' bad anyway..." Reuben said, looking down at the floor and fidgeting.

"Mr. Geir," Clarice stepped forward and put a hand on her little brother's shoulder. "From what Daddy's said so far, it doesn't seem like Miiba and, um...Scott, are actual Monsters. Nothing they've said or done so far matches up, and all of this talk about being Summoned or Cursed...I mean, what else are we supposed to think?"

"You're supposed to remember what your father and I have taught you about these abominations!" Geir's voice rose in volume, making Alice cover her ears. "All of you just want to trust them cause another one popped up!? How do we know this Pixie isn't just casting some Fey spell on us all!? How do we know he's not after the baby, or trying to put a baby in--"

"Geir." Gwyn's stern voice cut through the redheaded youth's anger like a knife. The infant in her arms stirred, making frustrated noises. Her eyes were hard as Geir's mouth snapped shut. "I trust my husband's judgement. I think you're wise to be vigilant...but maybe you should save your anger for when it's needed."

He stared at her, dumbfounded, for several slow seconds. Then, he suddenly grabbed the bandanna around his head and yanked it off, tossing his messy locks in a barely constrained fit. Gripping the cloth in his hands like he wanted to rip it in half, he headed for the door. Mira grabbed his sleeve as he moved to go around the table, away from Miiba and Scott.

"Geir, it's okay." Her voice was soft, even as close as she was Miiba could barely hear it. "Mr. Lear is strong. You're strong. Mrs. Gwyn is smart, and we're not all helpless. Even if we let our guard down a little bit..." She started to move closer. It seemed like she was going to try and hug him. "We can still protect them."

Geir put a gloved hand on her shoulder as he stared down at her. Looking up at him, without his headscarf, Miiba suddenly saw something she had never noticed before now. Just under his hairline, a series of scars pockmarked his head. Like something had pierced deep into his skin, with a jagged line connecting each pink-tinged starburst.

The adventurer held his comrade at bay, and his voice cracked when he spoke.

"Doesn't matter if you can when they won't let you." He took a few steps back. His lip was starting to quiver, but whether it was rage or tears was hard to tell. "But my family didn't understand that either."

The tall boy turned on his heel and stormed out the door. He didn't slam it behind him, because at that moment Lear had come back with a double armload of firewood. As he lay it down inside the house, the farmer looked up and took note of everyone's troubled expressions.

"I think it may be best if we all get ready for bed early tonight." he finally said, clapping his hands together. "Dear, let's get the children washed up. Mira, Miiba, if you'll get the fire going--just enough that we'll have a hot bed of coals all night. Scott, Miiba slept in the den last night. There are probably more blankets around here somewhere, Mira or I will show you in a bit."

Meanwhile, at the edge of the farm... @Duthguy@Guy0fV4lor

Mana Strike: It seems you began developing this skill when trying to apply magic to your physical attacks. It doesn't seem to increase any particular parameters of the weapon used in the attack.

Skill Gain: Material Analysis I (0.9 > 1.0)!
You have developed an eye for determining the qualities of inorganic or non-living objects. At this rank, you will only be able to gain surface information about an object. When used in conjunction with a crafting skill, it may help discover more compatible items.

Skill Gain: Fusion Skill [Analysis]!
A Fusion Skill is not a true skill by itself, but a sort of shortcut. You have acquired Monster, Magic, Plant, and Material Analysis skills. By activating [Analysis] you will use all of these skills at once without as much mental effort. [Analysis] will not go up in Rank, but its effectiveness will increase if the Skills used for Fusion are increased. However, if only Analysis is used, the growth of the individual skills will not be as fast.
System:Danny

Skill Gain: Crafting I (0.9 > 1.0)!
Your knowledge and understanding of mechanics, workmanship, and other such things enable you to craft better items. The process of creating many items is still an unknown to you, but if you ever succeed in such a creation its Sub-Stat Enhancements will be higher than normal.
System:Jason

Before his new Skill triggered, Danny could only observe the wall naturally with his sight, and maybe touch it with his hand, to gain any information on it. The bricks didn't seem like the common red bricks used to build things in his own world. They were hard like brick, and they seemed a similar color, but maybe whatever process was used to make them wasn't the same. If he had to guess, he might say these were fired clay bricks made from simple packed mud and a kiln. Rather than any kind of quicklime or concrete mortar, the stuff between the bricks seemed like another kind of mud mix...though what it was mixed with was rather suspect. It didn't smell, though, and seemed solid enough. The bricks had been fairly evenly stacked, but had been here for long enough that they were settling in some places. A few areas may have been repaired a time or two, at least on this section he was standing at.

With Jason directing him and using a little bit of Ghost Touch, they were able to find some vines while groping around in the dark. Wrapping these around the nearest rock upturned from the base of a tree, they soon had their grappling implement. As Jason activated his Transparency ability and pushed through the bricks, he was able to find a large log that had been dragged just inside the wall at some point, likely to be processed into firewood or lumber at a later time. He could tell from the size of it that even with Ghost Touch or Danny's Lesser Force there was no way this could be moved, but he could grab the rock at the end of the vine and wedge it underneath the log enough that it would probably support Danny's very light weight. Once the Poltergeist was over the wall, they now found themselves standing inside the dark enclosure with a much closer view of the still-lit house.

The door up ahead of them opened. A large figure, carrying something on its shoulders, passed by a thinner figure before the door closed again. They were both clearly humanoid, but were they actually humans? Jason could see that their spiritual energy was quite high--not so much as the Knight, but larger than that Squire's. The bigger one, in fact, might actually have almost as much as the knight, but his didn't surge and glow so brightly. Was that just because he wasn't using Magic at the moment?

The other figure was coming out into the yard. At first both monsters would likely freeze in trepidation, but whoever it was hadn't seemed to notice them yet. The figure removed a one handed axe from their belt--its head glinted in the starlight--and began to practice fighting movements. They could hear grunts and heavy breathing from here, and the movements increased in intensity...

Asura got slightly annoyed at the lack of helpfulness the Demon King gave him, and even that he assumed that Asura would somehow quit. How did one quit at life aside from suicide?! Still there was some slight help, barely there but it was there. Huffing to himself he turned his attention to Zeiglar. "I didn't stutter, I had options. Probably because I'm human in soul." He stated while shaking his 'head'. "If every monster could do it you would probably have been wiped out by now, but it seems to be only those brought here.

They explained the plants, which got him a bit more observant of his surroundings. It was doubtful they'd find them on the short trek, but still. Honestly he should have started analyzing plants ages ago to avoid being poisoned. Whatever, the Cave comes first. Then more training. Well he was still training, just not by conventional means. His attempt of sensing things made him aware of two other things. That Zen stuff if he remembered how people described it. So not his usual chaotic mind, so not what he wants right now.

Still he kept trying to sense...well energies. People always described the soul as energy, which is why it's supposedly eternal because energy is not made or destroyed or some shit like that. But this was a world of magic, so mana was most definitely around since Ardur just meditated and got the stuff. The magical energy shouldn't be to abundant in the Cave though since all the mana crystals had been absorbed by the core.

Trent handed him a lit torch and the group got moving. Asura holding the torch as high as he could without losing his grip on it or making the pseudopod to thin and letting it fall. Basically the torch was up a good six feet from the ground to provide a good bit of light around them.

The System decided to let the party know that they were now in the Cave. Oooo spooky. System add Trent to Party. He thought while trying to sense the spirits of the dead in the cave. It was doubtful, but it could happen! Trent spoke, drawing Asura's attention. "The World's Echo?" He asked just as the glowing ghost wisps floated into view, and the hiss of a rat rung from the darkness.

The rat lunged, but Asura had dealt with enough of the rodents to be fed up with them. He Smashed a Hardened pseudopod as hard as he could into its face to attempt to pulp its brain with its skull. It wouldn't be the first time, and undead tended to be slower than the living. Why was that? Aside from rigor mortis.

Danny was impressed by how well the wall was made, given that it was all done by hand. The strange bricks also stood out to him, something helped by his new Material Analysis. He briefly wondered if learning two new skills gave him experience but having just leveled up he didn't even how much he had before getting them. It also wasn't that important at the moment. Besides he had to help Jason find vines for his improvised grappling hook, which they did surprisingly fast given how dark it was.

After they made their way over the wall some humanoid figure left the farm and began swinging an axe around. Wishing he had some kinda nightvision Danny tried to inspect the figure better, before realizing his analyse skills should prove helpful. He used both Monster Analysis III to learn more about the figure and his new Material Analysis I to hopefully get at least some info on its weapon, all the while wondering if he and Jason should just reveal themselves or stay hidden for now. Both options had downsides by revealing them they might startle someone who at least had some combat skill but remaining would make it harder to convince them that they were peaceful if Jason and he were spotted.

The system truly responded to Femus’s requests, placing the points as instructed and displaying his options. It seemed that his recent actions had added a choice to his evolution options, one with a two star suitability rating as well. Still, that seemed largely based on what element he had trained recently. He intended to become fluent in multiple elements. Choosing a form that specialized him would be unwise. His foundation wasn’t strong enough for that yet. And, there was a word in there that he didn’t fully understand. So, he formed words in his mind again. “System. Please define ‘Increase Potential’ aspect of Adult Wisp evolution.” Hopefully he could get an answer that would settle his thoughts.

He followed Nira through the woods, carefully watching for anything dangerous while monitoring his own body and keeping a careful watch on the goblins. They truly were a divisive bunch, but their organization wasn’t bad. They actually seemed to have factored their own bad temperments into their combat strategy. Thankfully, they weren’t heading in the same direction that Femus and Nira were going and their cautious travel went smoothly.

Femus breathed a soft sigh of relief as they neared the tree. The trip hadn’t been very long but it had been nerve wracking for him. He was plagued the whole way by thoughts of what would happen if he were forced to start evolving in mid-air.

Seeing the tree up close was a welcome distraction. It was gorgeous and massive. He had never seen any tree that large and healthy before in either of his lives. However, the relief and wonder didn’t last long. The tree had a massive presence, or was engulfed in another nearby presence. Either way, it wouldn’t be wise to act carelessly here. Caution, caution and patience.

“Let’s try to avoid disturbing anything here more than necessary.” He whispered to Nira.

He knew that it could be dangerous to linger in front of the tree but he doubted that he could levitate high enough to reach the branches… way… up… there. He was suddenly grateful that he presently lacked a neck, it would have gotten a cramp looking up at those branches from underneath. But, many creatures could reach the roots, making them a bad ‘nesting’ spot for little magical creatures. He focused his will and used Magic Analysis and Plant Analysis on the tree and the moss. He also tried to use Magic Analysis on the air around the tree while staying alert for any signs of other creatures, nests, burrows, etc. in the area. An abandoned burrow could be very useful.

“Do you think we can make it to the lowest branches?” Femus said, asking and suggesting at the same time. It really would be a better option if they could manage it. “Or should we split up and look for some safe cranny to hide in for a little while?”

He had to get to a safe place quickly so he could evolve. It was uncertain whether time was actually ticking on that but it would be reckless to assume that it wasn’t. He was getting nervous. If he hadn’t been feeling the pressure, he would never have suggested that they split up right after arriving at a new and powerful place. Come to think of it, Nira had been the one to suggest splitting up every time it had happened so far. Though, they hadn’t been together for long at all. Still, clearly she was confident. That was good. Femus was unutterably grateful that he wasn’t facing this evolution on his own.

He was also itching to train here, but he didn’t dare to use more than the bare minimum necessary skills before evolving. With the health and size of this tree, the odds of there being holes in the trunk seemed low but he did take a moment while listening to Nira’s thoughts to look for one. The nature mana here should be very dense compared to elsewhere.

As they approached the house, Jason could tell that this place was being protected by some powerful individuals judging by the amount of soul power he saw. Activating [Telepathy], Jason relayed his plan to Danny, "Alright so heres the plan-- step out where he can see you, but dont get close. Hollar to him, asking if he's got a map that the two of us; and make sure he knows there's two of us, can look at so I can work on completing a quest I just received from the spirit Onogoro. Make sure you're loud enough so the huge guy who just went inside can hear you-- because as far as I can tell, hes on the same level as the knight and may be more knowledgeable about what's going on."

Hopefully, mentioning the spirit by name to the human would add credibility to their story, if asked.

"Be sure to touch on everything I just mentioned. If he tries to come after you, I can stun him, and we'll run. Otherwise, we should try to explain our circumstances, and warn them about the nearby tribe."

Activating [Guidence], Jason spoke a prayer-- "Onogoro, grant us your blessing-- that our words may be as calming as the mountain view"

. . .

As they approached the tree, Nira considered their little uneventful journey to be a fragile blessing. It was obvious that most critters wouldn't be wandering around with so many goblins nearby, but with the greenskin's shambling formations moving away from them, that temporary tension would soon dissolve. Looking up at the tree, Nira admired the sheer scale and health of it in comparison to her current size. It's impact might have been reduced if she had still been human sized, but she couldn't have denied the atmosphere it held regardless.

Speaking of, the presence she felt just by being near the tree unnerved her. For something this beautiful and (relatively) grand to have such a sense of danger surrounding it set off more then just a few alarm bells in her head. That kind of contrast was not something you just ignored, especially when your instincts tell you not to touch something. So when Femus whispered to her about disturbing as little as possible, Nira nodded in total agreement. Keeping both an eye and an ear out as she considered what to do, she was glad to hear Femus asking a question. In her opinion, there was no way she was staying at ground level around this tree.

"I think we should give it a shot. I'm not exactly comfortable with the idea of being trapped at ground level should something find us in one of those burrows, especially when you're evolving."

Since Danny didn't have a better idea he decided to follow Jason's suggestion, however he did make a slight edit. He put all of his weapons down within range of Lesser Force and hoped that the figure would be unable to see them. He knew that that it was dangerous but he figured that with the distance between them and Jason stunning the figure if they were hostile he would have plenty of time to recollect them.

That done he put his hands up and slowly but not extremely quietly walked forwards. "Excuse me! This is probably a strange question but do you have a map my friend and I could look at?"

The bone weapon was not able to withstand the brutality and power output the young ratman had exerted upon it shattered into pieces on the third hit against the bandit's sturdy shield. But it was not all for nought, as the spearman took advantage of the distraction he provided and landed a solid stab even if it did not kill the bandit. The sight and scent of blood excited the berserk ratman greatly; his blood-stained hand gripped the stick with such force that it quivered slightly in his grasp. His heightened animalistic hearing could hear the faint gurgling of a creature in the direction of the burial mound, the bandit's ranged support was gone. His mouth bared dozens of sharp teeth as he gave the wounded bandit a smile. One that was more akin to a sadistic snarl. "HUNTER IS DEAD, YOU'RE NEXT!" Without waiting for the bandit to make sense of Ed's statement, he rushed forward and readied his shield to defend him from attack, but ready to dodge if his shield wouldn't cut it.

He would keep low to the ground as closed in and focused solely on the wounded bandit, activating [Beast Sense II] and focusing it on his sight and [Dynamic Eye] to better observe and telegraph the bandit's movement. Ed would first feint a swing at the bandit's wounded side, curl the last foot or so of his tail into a hook shape, and finally combine his tail and momentum to sweep the bandit's feet off the ground. Hopefully giving the spearman the opening he needs to finish him.

"Just because these are my pets does not mean they are any less smart than me," Digbie glared back at Rags, his eyes still glowing brightly under the shadowy cast of his new cap. "I wouldn't be surprised if they were stronger than me in some ways, to be truthful." Digbie shot a glance over at Ash before Oberon and himself clambered back inside the shelter, a wall of Earth closing up behind them as Digbie exhaled a sigh of relief.

"O-Oberon those guys are bad news." Digbie's voice shifted back to being a hushed whisper of what it once was, his normal nervous and somewhat-adolescent tone shifting back. "I-I've got a plan, though. I-It might be a bit weird, but by Jehanne, I think it might work, a-and hopefully she doesn't deem me as unworthy of redemption with it."

Digbie took a breath before he started to explain, activating Tremor Sense III passively to try and keep track of where the Goblin Gaggle was. "S-So they really want our help, r-right? If t-they know what's good for them, they'll try to kill the goat unrestrained and two things can happen. They succeed and the goat dies, which takes it out of the fight, o-or they fail and the goat runs away or kills them. I-In either case, we remove a dangerous e-element from the fight that we might have or they run off trying to kill the goat. Regardless, if one of them is still around, we need to... k-kill them so we can stay alive. I-I don't want to stay involved with goblins anymore, e-even if it means we can't make a friend, so we need to eliminate the threats entirely. After that, we need to move."

Digbie took a breath, looking out one of the cracks to see Ash on guard. "A-Ash might not like the idea, but it's going to be safer in the long run if we can g-get out of here and away from these goblins," he stuttered his words out, but he still said them fine in the end. "I-I don't want to kill anyone, b-but if it means we all get to live a little longer then I'll d-do it."

He then looked in his bag for a moment, placed a hand on his prayer book, and took a moment to pray.

"Jehanne, help us get out of here safely, and protect us from what's ahead."

Miiba seemed slightly relieved at first that Reuban's idea may have some merit to it, though it was quickly dashed by Geir and his short lived fit. Though Miiba didn't take being called an abomination or demonspawn, even if she didn't quite know big words like that, they didn't sound very nice. What happened after though caught Miiba by surprise. Se wast quite able to grasp what Geir was talking about, but she did see the odd marks on his head, and tune in to his emotion as she stood there blankly watching him for a moment before he left, with Lear coming in about at the same time.

Miiba's happy countenance seemed to return to her as she helped with the firewood, taking it to the fireplace. Miiba looked to Gwyn as she passed with a proud smile, "Miiba chop these by herself! Mr. Lear carry though...," she simply stated as she set the wood she held in the fireplace. However, as she turned from the fireplace, a faint blue glow caught her eye. She climbed up to the window sill to get a better look and sat down to stare at it a moment. It seemed to be slightly headed toward Geir, and she could hear a muffled voice that didn't belong to the red headed young man. "Mr. Lear," she started with the same inquisitive tone she used whenever she was about to ask something, "What big blue glow ball with Geir?" she asked with her finger pressed against the window pointing to Danny, but looking back to Lear.

Ardur The Mighty Hipixie
Once More unto the breach >>> Home sweet home? /// Adventuring day 5 // Late Afternoon >> Evening / Location - Cave Entrance

“Well that wasn’t what I hoped it would be but at least I know there’s a difference between purified and cleansed. Maybe that knight can tell me more about that one." “One more question how do you purify something. I’ll ask again when we get back.” he seemed a bit rushed with the rest of the party beginning to enter the cave now.

Asura’s comment about transformations to the knight and the man’s shock at hearing this made him think again. He thought about speaking up for a moment and adding his opinion. As he saw, it the worst that could happen was they would be hunted but even then it would just be more experience right? These two did not seem like the kind to just try to attack or capture them at random.

Yeah I did too, started as a pixie, chose high pixie because it was more robust and I could keep the wings. None of the other choices really stood out to me.” Ardur paused for a moment again thinking of how he should continue as the others began to go inside. “I asked you about the age thing because we have only been here for what? Like three weeks maybe?” he was not asking a question it was just how he worded his sentence.

The high pixie didn’t wait for a reply and took his place in the party line up as instructed. Steve looked a little tense but so was he. This cave felt off now, without the light from the holes in the ceiling and the mana crystals, it was dark and gloomy. The ambiance of the place put him on edge. It was entirely too quiet, too stale, like nothing breathed or moved without being coaxed. “Stick to the plan Steve and we will be fine.” He whispered while stroking his friend a few times to calm her down.

𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕆𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕𝕝𝕪 ℂ𝕒𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕟
YOU HAVE ENTERED A HOSTILE DUNGEON.

Well at least that part was still familiar. For whatever reason he remembered someone or something calling it that. Maybe with this they might even be able to secure this place later as a foothold or stronghold. At the very least Ardur did intend to return here at some point to see it again.

“I think the old goblin bonfire was in this direction but it’s hard to tell with how dark it is in here now.” He whispered. His navigating interrupted by a couple small flashes and a system message indicating an encounter. Quickly he attempted to use Monster Analysis I on the two wisps and the rat before thinking of an attack.

“Steve go for the wisp on the right.” He commanded while he readied himself with the betel mandible in hand for the other one coming at them. He figured Asura could handle the rat for now and could only wonder as to what the boy would do. this would also seem to be a good test as to what their little formation could do.

Oberon continued to use Meditation as he listened to Digbie, trying to balance a state of clear mindedness while also thinking about their current situation. It had gotten easier to use the skill as he had become more proficient with it, even being able to use it while moving slowly now, but he wasn’t sure how well it would work when his attention was split like this.

“Yeah, okay. I had a feeling that’s what you were planning.” If the Goblin’s fought the goat in the way Digbie intended then they would probably weaken themselves in the process, making themselves an easier target for the four of them. There was even a slight chance that the goat might win and kill them all, but Oberon thought that was unlikely to happen; even if it did it would just mean that the goat was far more dangerous than they had anticipated which might actually make their situation worse.

As it was, the plan likely wouldn’t go as smoothly as Digbie hoped; the Goblin’s probably wouldn’t want to fight the goat fairly for one thing. It was fair more likely they would attempt to cheat somehow and kill the goat while it was still bound, though the presence of a now-confirmed-to-be intelligent Ash might dissuade them from that course a little.

“If it comes down to it I think we could win. Even if they don’t kill the goat, it’s bound up and they seem as wary of it as we are; they won’t release it to fight us… I hope.” He was assuming a lot with very little information, but he was fairly certain the goat was not trained and as likely to attack the Goblin’s as it was them; probably more likely. In all likelihood Rags would want to keep it out of the fight even more than they did. “It’ll be tough, but I think we could handle a fight against all of them. Just let me handle the one with the sword.”

Oberon couldn’t see very well in the dim light of the sealed cave, but he heard Digbie say something that clearly wasn’t aimed at him. It sounded a prayer of sorts, a short request for safety and protection, to someone called Jehanne. “We didn’t get a chance to talk earlier, but who’s Jehanne? Does this have something to do with that stuff you found earlier? The book?”

~Temporary Campsite~

These small minded animals. That's what these things were. Barely even sentient or intelligent. Ash could almost feel her patient wearing thin with these small minded, single brain celled fuckbrains. Easy to scare at least, and the idiots thought they were being clever, too. She physically restrained herself from simply lobbing a poison ball at Rags and seeing what it'd do at his words. She had to play calm here, even if she was getting more agitated.

"You already know what I am, goblin." Ash replied coolly, glaring at the creature. "Though considering your less than impressive intelligence I am not surprised." The Pygmy Drake flapped her wings, flying to one of the trees nearest the top of the hill so she could keep an eye on them. "You may simply call me a little demon of...ash. The demigoblin has bound me to his service, and I merely take this form for convenience." She chuckled. Well, that was a little bit of silliness on her part, but if they already thought demons were present, then she might as well leverage it.

"What the great Digbie desires, is for you to prove your strength." Ash replied coolly "Killing the creature while it's bound, only makes you look weak. Like a coward. A pathetic little child that hides in its mothers embrace." Ash smirked, trying to influence him as best as she could with her charisma skill, be it intimidation or otherwise. "...you're not a coward, are you Rags?"
