System: Digbie

Nice.

Once the dust had settled amidst all the commotion, Digbie flicked his hat up a notch so his dark scowl was absent, revealing his dopey eyes once more. He was a little scared from the sudden arrival of Guze, but when the sword was kicked over to his side, Digbie realized that he hadn't much to really worry about. The orc wasn't going to take him down, hell, the stone that was tossed to Digbie was another sign he didn't have anything to worry about. The goblin clumsily caught it with his hands, clenching it to himself out of fear for dropping and breaking it. "What's... what is this...?" he asked, analyzing it with the catch-all Analysis skill he had.

Digbie gently put his stuff down at Guze asking the group for help. Sure, he didn't want to hurt the goblins any more and leave them for dead, but something told him the situation would grow much worse for him and his friends if he didn't comply, so... he stepped over to the goblins and began to strip them of their gear, rounding everything up and laying it down in front of the base in an admittedly very organized manner. He had just hoped Jehanne would forgive him for whatever fate he's subjecting these goblins to.

As everything was nicely laid out, he listened to Guze speak. Though he was pretty silent about things, his eyes widened when the Orc spoke about the bugbear in the cave down South. "We, uh... all came from down there, actually. The bugbear got usurped." Digbie chimed in, but at that point his statement was moot, Guze was all geared up and getting ready to leave. When the orc finished explaining everything, he patted his steed and the duo left the Monster Party once again.

...

"Oooohhhhh..." Digbie sighed before he rubbed his head. "So much for a clean job. At least we learned somethin' 'bout the areas." Digbie commented before he remembered his skills. Man, he could upgrade some things! Finally!

But what to upgrade now... he didn't want to dump everything into one skill, but there was indeed one skill that interested him more than every other.

"Eight points into Lucid Dream. The other two into Spiritual Awareness." Digbie figured that was a good way to spend points, especially if lucid dreams were the best way for him to talk to Jehanne outside of Guidance.

He turned back to his friends. "We need to leave here. While I trust Guze's word on the Broken Tower, I think it might be in our best interest to move to somewhere else for our own safety. Orcs, Kobolds, whatever cave we can find in the mountains, I don't know, but anywhere is better than here right now. So... I propose while we decide on where to go, I'm gonna check all this gear for quality and everything, then we'll decide after that. We move in the afternoon after we round everything up.

Though before anything can happen... I've actually, gotta check the gear. 'Scuze me while I do that."
Digbie picked up the Rusty Sword and inspected it with Magic and Material analysis before he kept going, moving to the stone, then the pan, so on and so forth, until he could decipher everything with the items in question.

Once all the items were checked, he looked up to the sky and asked Jehanne a question with Guidance. "How are these stones, Jehanne? Are any of these good for my prayer bead necklace?"

Ardur The Mighty Hipixie
Another ambush >>> A line in the sand/// Adventuring day 5 // Evening / Location - The Shimmering Pool

“The core had been busy” was the only thought that was going through his mind when his flare lit up the room. Trying to use Monster Analysis I on as many of the opponents as he could before everything went dark again. This was going to be a pain, he had to think of a game plan but what the hell were they going to do now? One second. Biting his inner lip while thinking, they could cut their way through get to the core and destroy it. There was no guarantee that the undead would cease to exist after that. Two seconds. His party although tanky didn’t have what he felt could have the force to cut through so many.

Three seconds. Holding the line at this choke point might be their best option, weather the storm and don’t get over run. They wouldn’t have a lot of time before the rest of the lot was on them. Four seconds. Ardur made up his mind and took to the air to get out of Trent’s and mother slimes way. “Steve, evade their attacks and pin those two down.” He yelled out to her then looked to Trent. “get up there boy, we are drawing a line in the sand and holding our ground at the choke point, this way they can’t all swarm through at once.” Looking towards the giant friendly blue slime still barking out orders, “mother slime, Smash!” as he pointed towards where the lizard stood.

Now he needed to get into it as well. Holding the makeshift bone weapon in his hand. Still flying, Ardur moved up above Trent and moved forward. Turning back to him for a moment and his quivering torch. “Come on Trent, let’s go make your knight friend Zieglar proud. For Galatine and for the sun we will drive these abominations back.” He used Inspiration I on Trent before pushing forward farther and readying himself for what was to come next.

The 'fight' if you could even call it that, was over before it even could begin. Guze, the orc, made swift work of the goblins. Ash had to say she was mildly impressed with how well it went. She saw no reason not to help their helper. A favor for a favor, after all, and if nothing else getting more info from this friendly orc was a good idea. Plus, if it got rid of their current goblin problem, Ash had no qualms with taking this route.

She wanted to ask if she could keep one for herself. She was quite interested in goblin physiology, among other things, but...she restrained herself from asking for now. There were plenty of other goblins scurrying about like vermin.

"Well, your quite...different from what I imagined an orc would be." Ash commented idly as they finished up. Slaves, huh. "Not that I mind. You seem far more civilized than these...animals. Thank you for the assistance." Ash watched the Orc leave, before inspecting the level up screen in the status window. Oh. Ooooh. Another Evolution. That was useful. And a full 11 skill points to use! What was this...Memor Eyes thing? She hadn't seen it on her skill list before. Nine skill points seemed a like a lot of investment...hmm, what was it she had gained it from?

She couldn't come up with any theories.

"Put two into intimidate, nine into Memor Eyes." That should at least for now, sate her curiosity. Now time for something else. Ash walked over to Digbie.

"So, it seems I've reached level 10 and am able to Evolve again." Ash said with a mildly self satisfied grin. "I think I already know which I'm going to chose, and I'm going to rest in the shelter while I do it. But if any of you could make sure I don't having anything happen while I do it, that would be wonderful." With a nod towards Digbie, she curled her tail around the spear and went back inside the shelter. She'd handle looking at any loot after, and dealing with their next course of action then.

Leaning the spear on the wall, she rest against the far wall before choosing '(Adolescent)[Winged] Kobold (High Variant Chance)'

Torrent watched as things settled down, as the Goblins were rounded up and the loot taken, and she took her time to use all of her Analysis skills on the Orc. At the announcement about the evolution, she perked up however.

Another evolution? She was pretty close to ten herself, if she remembered correctly. That would be useful, to grow. Moving towards their den, she set herself up by the entrance.

"I'll stand guard while I practice some abilities," she announced quietly. Here, in the light from the morning sun, she focused on drawing in the light as Oberon had talked about. The mana from the light, pulling it in in the opposite of how she pushed things out to make Void. After a few moments of trying to draw it in from the light glancing off of her scales, she tried to channel the energy that she had brought in to her mouth. From there she focused on forcefully shooting the energy out from her mouth towards a nearby tree to see what would happen, using her Magic Analysis on the results.

With the arrival of the strange, cloaked figure, the remainder of the fight was over in remarkably short time; Rags and his band of fighters were subdued and bound in chains in no time. It was almost alarming the way in which the stranger dealt with the entire group of Goblins when Oberon himself was unsure if he could even deal with the sword-wielding one without being hurt, as was the brutality with which he handled them before and after the fight.

Though they were Goblins, vicious little bastards they might be, Oberon wasn’t exactly happy seeing the Goblin chief being beaten down or the threats to do the same to the others. Nor was he too pleased with the idea of them being taken prisoner like this; ‘slave’ was probably a more accurate term, since he couldn’t think of any other reason for an Orc to be out headhunting Goblins while taking them alive. He could imagine what kind of thing awaited them when they reached the Orc camp or whatever it was called and it was enough to make him want to resist when Guze asked him to heal Rags.

It wouldn’t do any good though. Whether he healed them or not the Goblins would still be taken prisoner and his healing would make the difference in whether Rags was dragged along or was able to walk under his own power. Raising both hands and pointing them at the gathered Goblins and cast Minor Heal All on Rags, the sword Goblin and the paralysed Goblin; since Rags looked to be the most hurt he then cast a Minor Regeneration on him as well.

Seeing the bloody and bruised Goblins begin to heal, specifically seeing the cuts on the largest Goblin’s arms start to close, he was uncomfortably reminded of the fact that he was ready to kill them if need be. They may not have picked this fight and they may not have had any choice but to defend themselves if it came to that, but that didn’t change the fact that he felt like a hypocrite for balking at the way the Orc was treating them now when he was ready to end their lives a moment ago. Not being able to easily claim the moral high ground over a slaver was an uncomfortable feeling.

Putting those thoughts aside for now, Oberon turned towards Guze and his mount as the former dealt with securing his ‘haul’ and took the time to use his analysis on them both. He first used the Fusion Skill: Analysis on Guze and then used Monster and Magic Analysis on the Cariblade but whatever information he gleaned from that analysis would need to be set aside for later, as the Orc was now giving them vital information about the surrounding area.

The Broken Tower tribe was to the North-West, another, even stronger Goblin tribe lay to the East while Kobolds and an old human fort sat in a valley to the North-East. With that the Orc was gone, mounting his Cariblade and taking his new acquisitions South-East in the direction of what was likely his tribe.

“Well, that was unpleasant for several reasons. I guess our most imminent problem is dealt with, but I agree with Digbie. I think we should get ready to move to another camp sooner rather than later.” The Sprite cast a solemn look in the direction Guze has disappeared. “Too many people know about this place now.”

The mention of levelling up and a new evolution from Ash caught his attention. An evolution at level 10? He’d suspected it, but this was the first confirmation he had gotten. Wasn’t he pretty close to level 10 as well? A quick request of the system showed he was 80% of the way to his next level. “I’ll stand guard too. If we evolve at level 10 then I think I can get there pretty soon as well. What about you two?”

Settling in outside the shelter on the other side of the entrance to Torrent, Oberon thought about what to focus on first. Would it be better to focus on skills that he was close to finishing or advancing first, or to just go back to what he was working on before? It was possible certain skills might unlock new evolution options as well, so maybe he should focus on learning new skills with that in mind? His Ice Spear? Or the Gravity spell he had accidentally made progress on last night?

Lesser Force. The telekinesis-like ability he had seen Wisps use a few times. Back in the cave he had met a Wisp that had told him a little about it, since he had wanted to learn it. He had had a few interesting ideas involving it back then, but he had simply not had a chance to work on it since then; now seemed as good a time as any to go back to it.

Oberon looked around until he spotted a small pebble on the ground, choosing that as his target as he began to drawn up Mana. What was it the Wisp had said? Imagine an invisible hand reaching out and grabbing the pebble, reach out with his Mana rather than his body, imagine holding the pebble in his grasp and lifting it off the ground. The Sprite tried to feel for the pebble with his senses, to try and locate the small stone with his Mana in order to better target it before enveloping it with his Mana and willing it to move even a little.

. . .

So these were called Kele Shoots. Wondering if she'd get similar notifications from picking other plants, she stored the thought away. Though the shoots weren't too big, she was carrying just enough of them for the system to give her a notice that carrying this many would impact her flying speed, if only slightly. Though Nira had felt the weight once she'd gotten off the ground, she wondered if the notice was a way that the system kept track of things as well.

By the time she'd gotten back to Femus and the tree, Nira was able to hear the success of the goblins quick hunt and winced as the pixie's scream was ended by the crunch of bone. Settling both herself and the food down carefully, she ducked behind a leaf with one of the shoots once she was sure that the rest wouldn't fall off the branch. Taking a bite out of the Kele shoot, she started up some conversation and gave Femus a quick update.

"Ummmmm... Thanks for the help earlier, with the slime I mean. I managed to complete my mana orb skill and level up at the same time. Turns out I've hit the requirements for evolution as well, but I won't be doing that quite yet since I want to spend some of my skill points first."

Taking another bite, there was a short pause before Nira contined speaking. "I'm not really sure how to interact with the system though, and was wondering if you had any luck with it?"

Femus was stunned, not by how fast the goblins moved, nor by the manner of the pixie’s death. Rather, he was stunned by his own absence of feeling. Nira’s words pulled him out of his introspection before he could spiral too deep. Though… there was a deep pull… an urge that would have had his hands balled into white knuckled fists if he had hands to clench.

Power… power to kill instantly. To extinguish life before the attack is even recognized… before even fear can touch the mind of his enemy. He needed it. The need was urgent, potent, and deep rooted.

He was trembling. He took a deep breath and regained control of his body. But, his voice was a little tense when he spoke.

“Don’t mention it. We’re partners. It’s natural for me to lend a… well I don’t have a hand but you understand.” Another breath and Femus was beginning to feel more steady. “I’m glad that you’re not rushing into evolving. As for the System. It seems to respond to requests… I’ve asked it to define a term and I received the requested knowledge. I was also able to place my points from my own levels by forming the words of my intent… saying it in my mind. I didn’t need to speak. I believe that we should be able to call up our status and other basic information as easily but I haven’t done so just yet.”

Femus softly cleared his throat.

“First though, the dress is done. It might not provide much protection but it should be better than nothing. Although… I think I might be able to make it a little tougher. But only after you put it on. I don’t want to mess with the fit.” He moved over to the food and examined it carefully, analyzing it and noting the slightly pungent fragrance and other traits before taking a bite. It wasn’t great… but it was food and he wasn’t going to complain. “I’ll eat a few bites while you get dressed then I’ll try to make it a little tougher. It’s on the branch over there.” He finished, waving a small piece of torn-off food with lesser force to indicate the direction.

Presuming that Nira got dressed as instructed, Femus would have had enough food to not be distracted by hunger and would appraise the fit and look expressionlessly. “Not bad. I’ll be able to do better with more practice but it’ll do for now. Hold still. I have to touch the dress for this to work and I need to work fast, before the leaves finish dying.”

Femus would then drift over and touch the leaves of the dress, one at a time, using Growth deliberately and carefully to strengthen the cell walls and vascular walls of the leaves. It might make them stiffer but it would also add force absorption to a simple dress. If he ran low on mana, he would pause and meditate until he could finish the job. Only when the job was done would he move away again and rest his body on the branch.

“What do you think?” He asked with a little uncertainty in his heart. He had never thought he would be making girl’s clothes, nevermind armor. Hopefully it wasn’t too bad. “Maybe you should move around a bit to get used to the feel of it? I… have something I need to work on for a bit.”

With that said, Femus formed a Shock Round 1. Then, he concentrated on its shape, pulling it into an elongated oval. Then he pulled further, trying to make it into a thin bladed dart with just enough core thickness to keep it strong. He also compressed the mana and added as much as necessary. His goal was to increase flight speed, reduce wander, and increase penetration force. He wanted to have a spell that could pierce the vitals of enemies stronger than goblins… in a single shot. Endurance is still the wisp’s weakness in battle. Killing enemies quickly is vital.

This was not a project that Femus expected to complete quickly. He kept at it, meditating up to overfull status every time he ran out and going right back to it. He would only try to fire the spell when its form was where he wanted it to be, and then he would target the ground first. Once the spell was complete and functional, that would be the time to test its piercing power.

. . .

"Even without the specification, I would have understood the sentiment. I'm thinking of evolving right before I fall asleep or something, since sleeping is a vulnerable state anyways. Might as well kill two birds with one stone."

Listening to the rest of what Femus said about the system, Nira internally banged her head against a wall as she learned that she could have been interacting with the system all the sooner if she had considered talking to it either verbally or mentally. She had played tons of games in her previous life, and yet not once had she actually considered this idea until now. She let out a frustrated groan as the obviousness of it sank in.

"Of course it would be the one obvious thing I hadn't tried."
With a sigh, Nira listened to Femus's mention of the dress with a bit of surprise. That had been pretty fast. "Oh, thanks." Wandering over in the direction he motioned while he ate, Nira put it on and gave it a quick spin. It wasn't exactly good, but the dress was more interesting than the hospital gown she had been so used to wearing, and it was certainly better than moving around naked. Apparently Femus thought about the same about his creation, saying that he might be able to make something better with more practice.

With his following request, Nira wondered what skill he was using on the leaves of the dress as she did her best to stay still until he was done. Moving about and testing it a bit, she could feel it was somewhat stiffer, but with how little it would likely impact her wings, she didn't mind it. "It works. Definitely more interesting than the gown I used to wear. But with the likelyhood of me evolving soon, I'm not sure if it will still fit me after I go through the process."

Seeing that Femus was already getting himself involved in his own project, Nira decided to work on one of her own. Moving to another tree branch, she did her best to return to her previous attempts at meditation. The skill had only been 3 points away from shifting to the next decimal place, so a little extra effort would likely complete it. Returning to the state of mind she needed, Nira retraced her steps and tried to increase her mana flow. Once she felt full, she slowed it to just above it's normal pace and focused on gently forcing more mana into the flow of her body, trying her best to create and hold an evenly distributed increase in the amount her mana flow contained. In doing so she tried to feel out all of the smaller flows within her body and gently increase them as well, until she was almost aware of every inch of mana within herself.

A shudder broke Jason from Geir's memories as his foot was grabbed from below He can retaliate?? though he tried to lock his hands beneath the younger warrior and sprawl, his brief moment of shock prevented him from securing his grip. As they grappled, Jason took notice that the boy's arm had turned into a thick wooden log, studded with iron nails; likely relating to this 'Ironwood' he was from. Taking blow after blow from that heavy limb, Jason had to cede the higher position to the fiery-haired barbarian as he tried to block the oncoming blows. It was at this point that Geir; ready to bring the fight to an end, had brought Jason back to his feet, calling him an 'Ashyran'. "I've never even heard of such a people." Jason taunted, a smirk spreading across his face.

The longer I can keep him focused on me, the more time I'm buying for Danny to get away. Jason twisted in Geir's grip has he slid his feet between the boy's legs; dark flesh, and a beaten uniform become jelly in an instant-- as the man became a slime under Geir's legs!

Springing back up behind the boy, Jason lowered himself; gripping his upward-facing right wrist with his left hand, using the momentum of his continued twisting motion to step his right leg over Geir's. "Well Geir of Ironwood, my name--" positioning his hips in the mid; continuing to twist, as he drove his legs into a second throw, "is JASON!!!"

Ed smirked and nodded slightly to Asteria's questions and the gnome's answers as he finally settled with the fact that he was comfortable with talking with the earth spirit and guardian of the barrow. It seemed like it was amused by them so he tried to entertain the gnome some more. "Well...think microorganisms impossibly small creatures that live on almost anything. Some are useful but a majority of them are harmful. An example would be yeast, that's the stuff that makes bread rise and be fluffy and not hard and flat like stone...uh no offense." He paused a bit to think of the best description of culinary arts. "Culinary Arts isn't exactly related to medicine...though there are foods that do function as an aid as well as food that serves as food to soothe emotional pain. I can go on and on about this but I don't think that it answers your question. Well Culinary Arts, in a simpler term, is the study that makes you into a chef. And before you ask the difference, a cook can be literally anyone who knows how to use heat to prepare food in a variety of things. A chef, however, is a professional that has been trained to the point of proficiency in all aspects of food preparation but often expertise in a cuisine...erm...a style a culture prepares and makes food." The ratman pauses for a moment as the savory aroma of roasting hobgoblin meat became nigh unavoidable in the room. "If you add a little bit of salt, pepper, veggies, couple cloves of smashed garlic, aromatic herbs, and some butter and it'd be as good as gold...but would likely be more costly than gold if my history teacher was right about how herbs and spices were in the medieval times." Now that he'd been exposed to the cooking of the gnome, he realized how much he missed his kitchen...or cooking in general.

He would stay silent for a while to think about his life and reflect on it. Letting Asteria and the gnome discuss whatever they needed before he would once again talk when gnome asked why they wanted to train.

"Well majority of the creatures we encountered were hostile and I don't think humans or the like would treat us any better considering how we look. Kill or be killed, you know? Given that, we need to get stronger so we can defend ourselves effectively and keep alive in this world long enough to make sense of it all before we get our answers." Ed pauses a bit to think. "Hey, gnome. Weird question but would you know of a hunting or foraging ground close by?"

"W-wow. Thanks, Asteria." The ratman said with genuine appreciation in his voice as he blushed slightly and scratched the back of his head. "Unlikely as it may be, but I think it would have been nice to meet you while we were still back on Earth. I think we would have been good friends there too." He said with a warm smile on his face before they returned to gnome to see the results of the test Asteria did.

Miiba couldn't help but shift around nervously the whole time, after all, there was a fight going on just outside, and it seemed to be taking longer than what Lear made it sound like it would. Miiba lifted her head slightly to try to angle herself to see through the window without leaving her spot, but it was to no avail. A few more moments pass and there was a loud shout that everyone could here. Lear mentioned it being a 'warcry' and asked Mira to go help him. Lear continued on reading the story, but he seemed a bit more distracted now.

"Mr. Lear? What if Geir in trouble? We help? Can Miiba help?" she asked. She seemed anxious, like she wasnted to do something, wanted to help, even if she didn't know how. She didn't have anything that she started out with, all her tools were gone, but in her eyes it just looked like Geir was in trouble. Despite how much she didn't like him for how he treated her, she still didn't want to see him get hurt, for both his and the other's sake.

"Danny"I'll do my best to slow him down, if you can make a break for the animal pens, you'll have a better chance of losing him!"
Danny wasn't too happy about the idea of abandoning all his equipment and had no idea if the human was able to hear what Jason said but he decided to trust his companion. Still just in case he used Lesser Force to throw sand in his opponents eyes before heading off. Not wanting to leave too many tracks he opted to keep Levitation up and hoped he wasn't blooding enough to give his away anyway.

Due to him facing away from the farmhouse Danny didn't notice the figure in the window as he floated as fast as he could looking for the pens. Not knowing how much time he had he also decided to check upon his status since it was clear that he wasn't at full health. hoping he didn't have to talk out loud to contact the system he formulated his question in his mind. System please show my health and mana."

It didn't take him long to find what he was looking and he floated into one of the pens. After landing he not only made himself as small as possible he also used Muffle I in hopes of concealing the sound of him breathing.

Asteria

“No, we are definitely not Undead,” Asteria answered, amused. “Alright, good to know, our transaction is complete, then,” she concluded. She would still try to get information from the gnome, however.

She listened attentively as he explained about Tamed creatures, Familiars, Summoned beings, and Contracts. “Hmm, so that water spirit I met was most likely Contracted. It had been dormant and bound to a sword until I gave it some of my mana,” she explained, hoping to get the gnome’s opinion on it. “Think that one was contracted like you are, but restricted to an object instead to a location?” she asked for clarification.

“Oh, so you get a boost from the mage? Neat. What exactly do you mean when you say that he gets a carryover, though?” she wondered.

The conversation soon turned to matters of language. “Hmm…There is definitely something weird going on, then. Because so far, we have been able to understand and converse with any being with a developed language. Such as goblins, and humans. However, when our fellow dire rat – and she is just a regular dire rat, by the by – chitters, we can’t understand her in the way we do you,” Asteria stated.

“So, when Ed and I just talk to each other, which language do we speak in? You said you overheard us, so you must have understood us, but maybe your presence changed which language we spoke in,” she hypothesized. “Let’s do an experiment, ok? Ed and I will try chatting about something involving only us, and you try and eavesdrop and afterwards tell us if there were any changes. It might not even work as long as you are in the same room, but still,” she trailed off, and turned to Ed. The smell of the food was starting to distract her, but she had more important matters to take care of, first.

After her companion was done with his part of the conversation with the gnome, Asteria nodded at him to move away from the barrow-guardian a bit. “Ok, let’s test this out. What would we talk about that we wouldn’t want him to know yet wouldn’t be too bad if he ends up learning? Let’s see…let’s go with something mundane. I don’t know if I ever told you this, but you kinda remind me of my younger brother. You aren’t similar at all; he’s older, and you’re smarter and a good kid besides, but…I don’t know, you just have a little brother vibe, if that makes sense.” Asteria told him. Her muzzle twitched with the desire to smile at Ed's reply, and she nodded at him. "Yeah," was all she said, though, before returning to the gnome.

“So, did you also understand that? It was sort of a private conversation between us, so I wonder if that changed whether we were still speaking Gnomish while you were able to hear us or not,” Asteria asked.

Considered by some to be the pinnacle of Goblinoid transformation, the Orcs stand apart as their own Feral Race. Like the Enlightened Races, they are capable of forming proper cultures, making technological or magical advancements, and continue to accumulate their own history. Physically, many Orcs are on par with Humans while some may surpass the Enlightened Races in particular areas--usually raw strength or stamina. Their numbers often grow rapidly in times of peace, thus many rivals seek to keep them suppressed.

An Orc Grunt stands right around 5 feet tall on average, but the density of their muscle mass usually puts their weight between 130-150 pounds. Their abilities can usually be considered "average" for the various Orc subtypes. Guze's physical stats are roughly quadruple your own, without taking into account equipment.

Guze seems to possess several combat skills, and is good with archery and hand to hand combat as you have seen firsthand. His Job is unclear, but likely to be some sort of scout or hunter. His MP is about half of your own. You can detect just a few magical abilities from him, but only one seems to be active. He is equipped with a Bowhorn Shortbow (Good), Hide Clothing (Well-Made), Cloth Wraps (Average), Leather Pouch (Well-Made), and several other items you have not seen clearly yet. You suspect there is another weapon of some sort, what seem to be some basic supplies or survival kit, and tools for hunting or capturing more slaves.

Fire, Poison, Ice, Curse, and Spirit magics are often most effective on Orcs. Most other elements are decently effective, but they tend to have high tolerances for pain and damage resistances. The weakest elements against them tend to be Earth and Water.

---Cariblade---
A possible Transformation of the Bowhorn Deer, the Cariblade's horns have better adapted for close range combat. A diet rich in certain nutrients has hardened its antlers, turning them from woody formations to rigid, metallic spikes. Special blood vessels throughout the blades allow them to vent heat very efficiently, however this makes the metal unsuited for normal forging. Whereas other types of deer mark their territory or shed horns by rubbing against trees, male Cariblades often use rocks instead to hone their edges. Cariblades are not particularly magical in nature, but have higher MP than most other creatures you've seen in the forest. Its MP is still slightly lower than your own. It does not possess any magical skills, but seems to have some physical ones. Its physical stats are all higher than yours. It is weakest to Lightning Element Magic. Fire and Wind are decently effective. The effectiveness of Ice, Water, Metal, and Earth are lessened.

---Whetstone---
Sharpening stones come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and material compositions. Stones may be flat, or shaped for more complex edges, such as those associated with some wood carving tools. Whetstones may be natural or artificial. Artificial stones usually come in the form of a bonded abrasive composed of a ceramic such as Carborundum or Corundum.

This stone is of Well-Made quality, and does not seem to have been used much. However, it also seems a bit too "squared off" to have been made by hand, especially by an Orc...

Its only magical quality seems to be a faint hint of elemental Mana, Earth and...something quite similar, but not the same. It seems as if it might conduct Mana as well. One side is a bit cooler than the other and ever so slightly damp...

You used Magic Analysis I! You used Material Analysis I!
---Rusty Chipped Arming Sword (Very Poor) (Blood Coated)---
This once-fearsome sword has seen better days. It can do some damage in the right hands but also breaks quickly. It is roughly two and a half pounds in weight, just under three feet in total length, and its grip is made for a Human's single hand. >> Given its current level of damage, a great impact might break the blade due to the changes in its edge shape distributing the force. Honing the chips out of the edge, and polishing off the rust to keep it from eating further at the sword, could restore its usefulness. But it will likely never return to its true power.
---Fur Clothing (Bad)---
A set of clothes consisting of a kind of robe, belt, and mantle pieces all fastened together with plant fibers. Seems to feature Dire Rat fur most prominently, but there are some other bits in here from creatures you don't recognize too. It has a rather strong smell. >> Given its condition, some of the pelts could use replacing and the cordage is starting to dry rot.
---Vine Bracers (Various) x4---
A set of bracers or greaves made by taking simple vines, braiding them, and wrapping them around one's limbs, with a stick or two. Braces the limb and provides slight protection from blunt impacts, but cutting edges or fire could easily dispose of this "armor." The quality varies between each piece, as they were likely made by someone unskilled. Right Leg - Average. Left Leg - Bad. Right Arm - Poor. Left Arm - Below Average.
---Broken Haubergeon (Below Average > Bad, Damaged)---
A shirt of chain mail, a shorter version of a proper Hauberk. A Hauberk would reach to mid-thigh and cover the arms down to the wrists; this article, on a Human, is about the length of a normal shirt and its sleeves are shorter. >> It seems quite old, perhaps second-hand, and in recent battles has taken quite a bit of damage. At this point, the links are liable to break under any considerable force, but the overall garment may still stand up to a handful more blows.
---Filthy Underwear (Bad)---
A pair of boxer shorts that have seen far, far better days. The less said about the stains and smells on this garment, the better. >> If it were properly washed, it would still be a bit threadbare, but in certain weather something is better than nothing.
---Vine Greaves (Good) x2---
Specifically made for the legs, these thicker vines have been braided and wrapped on a Goblin from the knees down with two flat pieces of wood to brace the limb against impacts. They'll stand up about as well as some light cloth padding would, but sharp blades and hot flames would make short work of them. >> They're better than the Vine Bracers, but not by much.
---Treebark Bracers (Good) x2---
By taking a strip of thick bark from a rounded limb, and using braided vines to fasten it in place, this piece of armor provides a primitive layer of protection. The hard wood will even stand up to a sword, though not for very long, and while it's still vulnerable to flame it would take longer to burn to ash. >> It's a good bit better than Vine Bracers, and the Wood could potentially be processed for improvement.
---Scrap Leather Boot (Below Average)---
This boot is far too big for a goblin, hence why half of its toe-end has been cut off. It's made of what was probably once fairly decent leather, and seems to have been cobbled competently, but it's seen too much wear and tear and mistreatment.
---Iron Dagger (Well-Made)---
Though competently made, the iron in this weapon is of somewhat poorer quality. Technically, the forging process renders any "iron" object a form of steel, but this difference in quality is reflected in calling it Iron rather than Steel. Still, it is much better than anything a Goblin could normally make. Compared to Stone Knives you have seen before, it is more than twice as strong and fast.
---Ripped Cloth Bandanna (Average)---
A simple headwrap made of soft cloth. It offers some light protection for the head, but also keeps longer hair or sweaty brows from interfering with one's vision.
---Black Iron Skillet (Average)---
Technically, the forging process renders any "iron" object a form of steel, but this difference in quality is reflected in the object's name. Black Iron, sometimes called Ohg Iron, is even lower in quality than normal Iron. But for simple tools and appliances like this it is more than sufficient. >> The goblin wearing this has imparted it with a very thin layer of...personal grease. Cook with it at your own risk.
---Wooden Club (Good)---
A simple wooden club made by taking an especially thick branch, stripping and drying it, and wrapping some vines around the grip. It's fairly effective as a weapon.
---Stone Knife (Average)---
A knife made of a Sharp Stone, further knapped to refine its edge. Vines have been wrapped around one end so as to hold it without cutting oneself. Its light weight means attacks can be made quite swiftly.
---Rat Jerky x3---
Dried meat from a Dire Rat, sprinkled with some form of herbs and spice. It has a rather gamey smell and the taste is doubly so, but it'll keep one from starving at any rate.
---Tarnished Copper Ring (Well Made)---
A simple ring with no inscription or gem set in. It has been exposed to the elements and not well taken care of, so despite the obvious skill of its craftsmanship it is beginning to turn a chalky green color.
---Hard Shell (Average)---
A small piece of an Armored Badger's shell. This piece isn't big enough to be of any great use, but a few more pieces could be added to it to make something suitable as armor or shielding.
---Large Piece of Glass (Fragile)---
Wrapped in a dirty piece of cloth, this piece of glass is rather thick. It likely came from a jar or vial rather than a window. Though it's rounded around most edges, it could still cut quite easily.

While Torrent and Oberon tried to figure out just what and who Guze was, and what he and his mount might really be capable of, Ash and Digbie distributed their level up points and the little demon goblin gathered everything he could strip off the Goblins without feeling too bad about it--as well as a few things he hadn't been aware they had, stuffed in what few pockets they had or...in other places. The captured green skins were quite indignant about it, but helpless in their chains.

Once he had all his loot in various piles on the ground, Digbie laid out his various stones as well and channeled his Mana as he spoke to his chosen patron.

"How are these stones, Jehanne? Are any of these good for my prayer bead necklace?"

He stood there, quietly, for several moments. Eventually a cool breeze blew, prompting him to open one eye. And he was almost immediately blinded--the breeze, a mere piece of a greater wind high above them, had blown the clouds further away and revealed more sunlight in the tiny clearing. Its rays glittered off the Quartz Pebble, the Shiny Stones, and the Smooth Bead. It seemed pretty obvious to Digbie, even though Jehanne hadn't answered him, that these could probably be ground down or drilled through to make some beads. But as he bent to gather them up, he couldn't help noticing the two Hard Stones he had as well. They were pretty big...but if he could bash them against each other, couldn't he break off a few pieces to be smoothed out into beads as well? And as he stood back up, various stones in hand, another glitter of sunlight caught his eye again--coming from that large piece of glass he had found on one of the Goblins.

And now that he thought about it, hadn't he heard, or read, or seen at some point in the Old World something about how people who were really good at digging things up often found things like beads and pottery in old places? A lot of times those beads were just balls of clay that had been hardened in fire or the sun, or shells ground down by hand...

System:Ash

Meanwhile, Ash prepared herself for her second Transformation since coming to this world. That had to be a significant event, right? She hadn't been much of a "gamer," in her old life, but getting this far had to mean something. She made sure she was safe inside the little dugout cave, with her spear nearby, and closed her eyes as she focused on her choice...

Immediately, she dropped into a deep sleep.

Ash's physical body curled in on itself. Her breaths became deeper, swelling her chest cavity each time...and her muscles seemed to tense up...

She had never been able to recall it with true clarity the first time, but now that she was once more floating upward, the visions of her first transformation all came rushing back to the Pygmy Drake's mind. The things she had seen back then--the cavern's interior, the forest, the curling smoke trails, the deserts and mountains, all of it--were crystal clear for this moment in her mind. But now things had become so different...

They were farther North, so she could no longer see the cave where she had been reborn. She could still see all the trees of the forest, far below her. To the east, a particularly large tree glowed a light green color, bright enough that it seemed like a lighthouse beacon from here. Even further north, she could almost feel the same clouds of cold and snow she could see, and the howling winds that spun them round and round an even darker and deeper forest.

To the West, she could see the small shape of Guze and his captives making their way up the mountain ledges--and then immediately her vision swept up to the great scar across the mountains. It was as if some blade of impossible size had sheared off its tip. The rocks there were blackened yet smooth, with a glossy appearance. Within this smoking crater, many lights glittered. She had risen even higher by this point, so she couldn't pick out any details among the small figures moving in groups along the slopes and the ring of structures they had erected along the lip of the black crater...

Still higher she went, drifting through clouds. To the north, not as far as the ice and cold, a river meandered down out of the mountains. To the east, beyond the forest and the emerald glow, a sparkling lake. Even further in the west, and somewhat to the north, over the ridge of the mountains there was a tower like a mighty tree reaching up to the heavens. Its roots, too, stretched deep, deep into the earth. So far to the east that it became west again, a lonely, cold, desolate island where red lightning split the sky. Further beyond that, marshlands and mountains and untamed, wild lands.

She rose higher. A world, a planet, rotated thousands of miles an hour, yet from this distance appeared as no more than a soap bubble. A great city, too far from here to see, had called for her before but now it was silent. The island's red skies still held her in sway.

She was more aware now than she had been the first time she had seen this vision. Aware enough to know things were different. Aware enough to try and put something together. Aware enough, perhaps, to do something...?

Back in the waking world, with Guze gone Torrent took up a watch of sorts outside the shelter. Digbie was still communing with his goddes, and Oberon went back to his experiments.

As Torrent tried to draw light into her body, she began to feel quite warm. Like lying on a rock in full sunlight, her body slowly heated up in a pleasant fashion. And, in between one blink and another, it seemed like her surroundings got...brighter. As if she were standing under a flourescent light that had finally warmed up to its highest setting after starting out dim.

When she tried to concentrate this magical feeling into her breath magic, and opened her maw wide...Nothing shot out of her mouth. There was nothing to blast into the small stream, or into the trees she aimed at. Anyone looking at her might think her teeth were oddly bright for someone who had no toothbrush, but to the lizard herself nothing seemed to be happening. Still, she tried to Analyze this result...

Meanwhile, Oberon tried to remember what he had learned back when they left the cave--which now seemed like over a year ago, even though it hadn't even been a week. He reached out with his mind and his will, and without realizing it his Mana Sense as well. His control over his magic had grown substantially after all this practice, and he felt it responding much more strongly to his attempts to shape it.

Suddenly, as if he had a phantom limb like an amputee, he felt his "hand" close around the pebble. He could, without a doubt, feel its hardness...but its weight felt so much heavier than it should have. Was it just a trick of his eyes, or did the pebble shiver, just a little bit?

He was doing something, that was for sure. Now the question was, did he just need more raw power, or did the technique require some kind of adjustment...?

---F. Lizard Zombie---
Fanged Lizards are a reptilian monster with potent venom. When injected via a bite, it acts as a neurotoxin to paralyze the prey. When exposed to the air, it becomes a highly acidic liquid. The lizard can spit at a distance. Fanged Lizards are capable of magic but most do not naturally possess it. >> As a Zombie, the undead version of this monster becomes slower, but their durability and strength remain the same. Their poison becomes more potent, however, due to the process of decay. They also become much more aggressive, as all corporeal undead are naturally hostile to all living creatures.
System:Ardur

In the few seconds provided by the flare's illumination, Ardur only managed to get a clear Analysis of one creature. A Fanged Lizard Zombie, its scales gray and peeling and its tail severed, crawled at a slow but steady pace towards the other end of the passage they were currently trapped in to join its fellows.

"Wait, Asura! If you rush forward too quickly--" Trent started to say, but it was too late. The red slime's Faster speed took him far ahead of the group, breaking their formation. Though Trent, Steve, and Momma Slime picked up their own pace, Asura barreled forward towards the rapidly increasing group of enemies. By the time he had dodged the next poisoned Javelin, those two Ghost Wisps from before had made their way to the Zombie Goblin.

Ardur called out orders to the group, and Steve tried to scuttle faster. She still didn't have the speed to catch up to Asura, and Trent's long legs rapidly outpaced her. Momma Slime burbled something that sounded affirmative at Ardur, but being the heaviest of the group even as she rolled herself into a tight sphere she couldn't quite keep up.

The Zombie Goblin lobbed yet another javelin, this time at Trent. It thumped against the boy's shield, sticking there and hissing as the poison tried to eat into the rawhide covering over the study wood.

---Zomblin---
Goblins stand between three and three-and-a-half feet tall on average, and they are much like human children. However, their natural cunning and viciousness is far more vile. They tend to form savage tribes with little in common save for the constant drive to survive. >> As a Zombie, this creature's speed and strength haven't changed, but its durability has increased. Even with debilitating wounds it will continue to fight, as all corporeal undead have an extreme hostility towards the living and a hunger for flesh.
System:Asura

While Asura continued to charge forward, he also analyzed his opponent. He couldn't get any information on the creature's armor, as his Material Analysis skill hadn't yet activated--all he could see was that it was made of overlapping plates of bone and hollowed out skulls of one humanoid creature and one animal. The skulls made up two pauldrons, the plates a chestpiece, and something like faulds of smaller bone tied with bloody strips of sinew were draped over the creature's torso. There were noticeable gaps in the bone pieces, but they looked extremely fresh, and brought to mind those large blood spatters the group had seen outside the dungeon's entrance.

But as the Amorphous Slime's attention was on this information, he felt a burning sting as an impact struck his improvised stone shielding, driving him back just a "step," despite his lack of feet. One of those Ghost Wisps had fired its Mana Orb--he was in range of their attacks now! The other Ghost Wisp fired its attack as well, attempting to lead the shot as the slime was not dissuaded from his charge.

The group was getting close enough now that their torches could show them their enemies--and it also revealed another Fanged Lizard, two regular Wisps that had a distinct purple sheen to their glow, and a Skeleblin approaching around the shore of the pool!

Still flying, Ardur moved up above Trent and moved forward. Turning back to him for a moment and his quivering torch. “Come on Trent, let’s go make your knight friend Zieglar proud. For Galatine and for the sun we will drive these abominations back.” Holding his Femur Bone aloft, a mix of orange and white sparkles shone brightly before the same light outlined Trent's body.

"I knew it, that's the Inspire spell!" Trent blurted out, though he immediately focused back on the enemies up ahead. Still running, shield held up, he pointed his sword forward at the group of enemies. "Mana Orb!" The bolt of energy, now surrounded by the same glow as Inspire, shot forward.

Asura, whether he had been hit by the second Ghost Wisp's Mana Orb or had managed to avoid it somehow, now had cleared the space between him and the enemy party. The Fanged Lizard at the undead Goblin's side hissed as its mouth opened to shoot poison--but Trent's spell crashed into it, knocking the creature end over end. The red slime leaped head on at the foe, and he managed to worm his way between the amateurish armor's pieces. The spinning handful of stones he possesed scooped away a section of the creature's ribcage--but there was a sudden clicking sound, and he was momentarily stuck. His [Slime Shell], the Bowhorn Skull, obviously couldn't shapeshift to come through the gaps with him! The Zombie Goblin managed to grab the still-fresh horns, and yanked the rest of Asura out before slamming him to the ground, and jabbing at him with a Poisoned Javelin! At the same time, those two Ghost Wisps were focusing their fire on the slime, launching two more Mana Orbs even as their own bodies began to flicker--!

Trent was rapidly closing into melee distance. Steve would soon be in range to use her Web Shot. Ardur was still flying above the group, and it would be a few more moments before Mother Slime made it. But behind the Zombie Goblin, the Fanged Lizard, and the two Ghost Wisps, those two regular Wisps, a second Fanged Lizard, and the Skeleblin had also entered the fray! There wasn't quite enough room in the passage for all of them to stand abreast, but as soon as they resolved themselves the invading party would have even more opponents to worry about.

Ardur, from up high, could also see a Pixie--or rather, its yellowed bones still supported by gossamer wings--and then a second, fleshy Pixie with glowing purple eyes, as well as another Wisp, racing to join the Zombie Goblin's party. He could also see several glowing spheres and glittering wings racing across the opposite side of the pool, cutting over the water. They were moving at an angle from the group, rather than directly confronting them...

Rat Party

"Well uh, if ya say so bud." the Gnome responded, scratching himself and belching as Ed explained biology and cooking. "You sound like you really know your stuff." Then he rubbed his chin, and absently reached for another handful of meat.

"A hunting ground, eh? Lemme think for a bit..."

While he was thinking, Asteria had a few more questions. When she mentioned Undine, though, the Gnome stopped chewing and looked at her.

"Bound to a sword? That's...that don't sound right." Those big gem eyes blinked mechanically. "You could make use of an object in a contract, I suppose--as like an origin, or a boundary point, for an area that the creature is supposed to guard. Within 50 feet of the big tree. No further than the garden fence. Stuff like that. But if a creature themselves was bound to a weapon, that's not a contract. That's a Soulforged Item. And...if a creature got Soulforged into an item...you shouldn't have been able to "meet" them at all." He reached for another piece of meat, and talked with his mouth full. "I know a li'l bit about that, considerin' it happens a lot to Elementals. A creature that gets Soulforged, it really ain't that different to bein' dead. And if ya ask me, bein' Soulforged is bad enough--you're saying you could still talk to the creature or summat? Like it was trapped in the object?"

The Gnome shivered. For a creature that didn't seem to notice the heat of the flame, it was clear that it probably wouldn't notice cold either. Asteria would likely respond in the affirmative that she had been able to speak to Undine, and the Elemental shook his head in the manner of someone who has just watched a disturbing, gory video on the internet.

The female rat changed the topic to the contract between him and his mage again, asking what a "carryover" meant.

"Well, I get to share a little of his Mana if I need it. And because I'm an earth elemental, he sort of picks up some of my abilities through the connection. It makes his own earth spells stronger, or sharpens his senses for manipulating the element. Because this particular contract is multi-generational, some--not all, just a few--of the benefits from previous holders of the contract are bundled in, too."

When Asteria proposed a language experiment, the Gnome shrugged his shoulders in agreement and scooped up another few handfuls of meat into his pot before he went into the second chamber. When he came back, he shook his head.

"There were parts I couldn't hear, just due to muffling and distance, but what little I could still sounded like Gnomish to me. I heard somethin' about you," he pointed at Asteria, "having a little brother." He pointed at Ed, "And you were saying something about Earth...but the way you said it made me think you ain't just talkin' about my element."

He sat back down, and had emptied his pot. The grease running down his chin had practically oiled his entire chest by this point.

"Anyway, while ya were doin' that, I had a chance to think about hunting grounds. You guys said somethin' about bandits earlier. I remembered that some thugs attacked some other guys on this road, a few weeks ago. The racket woke me up, but I didn't see 'em or nothin'. They prolly know better than to come in here. I did happen to poke my head up afterwards, though, and I saw 'em headin' towards that hill off towards the forest. I bet if they've got a camp, they'll have a fire burnin' at some point so you could see the smoke.

"Further east, but north of Laketown, there's a tribe of Goblins that fish in the river. I heard from some adventures a while back that their numbers were lower for some reason, maybe they'd make easy prey.

"Back the way y'all came from, there's a nest of Myrminors under the ground. I've felt 'em digging and expanding for about a week now.

"And to the south of here, in the Alpin Plains, there's a pack of Mongrels. I hear 'em howling all the time during the full moon. If you're gonna hunt them ya gotta be careful though, they're never alone when they wander."

And finally, as he sucked hobgoblin juice from his fingers:

"And if ya went to Laketown, I hear a lot of novice adventurers make a coin or two cleaning out their sewers. I ain't sayin' hunt them, but there's bound to be critters down in the sewers. If newbie adventurers can do it, I bet you two weirdos could too."

As Nira concentrated on her meditation, she found that the air around this tree seemed especially thick with energy. Sooner than she anticipated, she felt the Skill complete and received a notification soon after. The surge of energy immediately topped her off, and then some. It felt like a sugar rush, bringing to mind the question if she could possibly crash later on because of it.

Femus's attempts to use Growth on her Dress were successful as well...but whether it was because they were using more energy, or just because they hadn't had anything to drink to go along with their meal, the system soon gave them an update on their bodies' needs--which they didn't really need, in all honesty. Why, exactly, did the system have this odd habit of stating the obvious?

Femus's attempts to shape his Shock Round were less successful than he might have hoped. The blast did become more concentrated, like the Mana Dart, but once released it was only faster for a split second. Once it had traveled a certain distance, it seemed to begin inflating to its normal size as it drifted lazily along. Still, it was a better result than nothing. Maybe he needed to think of other ideas to try...

While the two rested in their tree, they soon saw some new beasts enter the clearing. These, however, were much more cautious in their approach. It began with a great Bowhorn Deer, obviously a male from his size and the spread of his great antlers, poking his head out of the tree line. Then he took a few careful steps out. He snorted, then wiggled his ears. He lowered his head. He passed his nose from side to side. Then, he softly bleated back into the woods.

The monstrous deer approached the same patch of Kele and other herbs. Following him, just as cautiously, came what could be assumed to be a doe from the smaller size of her body and horns. And then, after her, two dappled youngsters, less than half the size of the adults and with no antlers to speak of.

Skittish, and always keeping one eye on their surroundings, they bent their heads to graze. The male scratched at his flank with his curved horns, dislodging a clump of fur that drifted to the ground. He kept a careful watch as his family ate their fill...

Just as Jason received this message, Geir lunged at him again with a roar. He hit the former warlord like a pro linebacker, driven by a combination of rage, sheer willpower, and...something else. Just like when his arm had transformed, now his entire body seemed to be made out of stone.

"Get up."

The girl in pupil's robes looked up from her sobbing. Her bright green eyes were filled with tears, and one of her hands was covered in blood. She had been trying, unsuccessfully, to staunch another young man's wound. He was dead, now.

"I, I can't leave him..."

"You said your name's Mira, right?" Geir pried his hand-axe out of the Goblin's skull, and kicked it down the sloping path of the cavern behind them. "And his name was Mark." He barely waited for her to nod, and choke down another sob. "If you don't leave him, you'll be lying there next to him soon. Because I'm getting out of here, and back to the Guild." Mirabelle looked up at him. His heart dropped in his chest. He wanted to cry too. He had failed to save Mark too. But this wasn't the first time he'd failed. "Someone has to warn them that this tribe is growing fast. If we don't, they'll eventually break through into the sewers, and come up right underneath us. And then a lot more people will end up like Mark."

"I, I know. B-but--"

"But nothing! Mira! Get up, or die! Those are your options!" She shrank away from his voice, but he didn't have time to be nice. "If you sit here and cry, they're gonna kill you! If you can't focus, they'll kill you! If you try to drag his body back, you won't be able to fight and they'll kill you! You can either do the hardest thing you've ever done, right now, or you can die! That's the only choice you get out here--struggle until you die, or lay back and DIE! So make your choice!" He could hear them cackling. He turned on his heel.

The first Goblin got a face full of his axe as it came around the corner. He kicked its body into the second, and swung at the third. It dodged him, but when it tried to evade his off hand grabbed it and slammed it into the rock wall. Its nose broke and it gurgled on its own blood. He felt something strike his padded jerkin, and even though the point didn't pierce him the creature put all its weight and strength behind the shaft and drove HIM against the wall. He couldn't get a good swing with his axe, so he punched it as hard as he could. The one with the broken nose ran past him, swinging a grody, shit-covered knife--

A fireball ignited its entire head, and lit up the path. Mira's robes flapped around her as she ran, screaming, and drove her small dagger into the back of the third goblin. Geir shoved its body off, and they pressed forward even as more growls and snarls followed them...

Jason felt like he'd been hit by a truck as he was hurled, once more, out of the redhead's body. He could feel his essence seeping away, point by point, the System's warning still flashing in his mind...

Someone, no, two someones, were running out of the door to the house and sprinting towards Geir as he writhed on the ground...

"If you think you can, Miiba, then go." Lear had said to the Goblin. He sighed and marked the page in the book with his thumb. "Honey, I think the kids should go ahead to bed."

"W-wait, Dad! If Miiba's gonna help Geir fight the monsters..." Reuben ran back into the hallways separating the bedrooms, and almost immediately came back. His mother gasped, and started to say something about running with dangerous objects, but the long hunting knife he handed Miiba was still in its leather sheath.

"Be careful with that! Dad made it for my birthday!" the youngster warned the goblin. "If...if ya steal it, or hurt a Human with it, we...we won't be friends no more!" He was still trying to look tough, and stern. But for someone to stop being friends with you, that meant something else, too, didn't it?

Mirabelle had already flung the door open, and a Mana Orb glowed above her fingertip to provide light as well as ammo as she rushed out...

Danny made it around the house just in time to hear the door slam open. He could tell from a shifting, bobbing light that someone was running out into the yard. As he floated over the fence into one of the animal pens and activated his Muffle skill, he couldn't see Geir or any other Humans coming after him...but even with his stealth skill, he couldn't erase his presence when he was this close to the animals. A large, white feathered bird squawked as he startled it, and began to scratch the ground with those big talons as it turned its head this way and that. Those beady eyes looking at him didn't seem quite as docile as a chicken from back home...

. . .

With the pop up of the system notice, Nira got up and stretched a little, trying her best to get used to the sensation of extra mp. She wasn't exactly comfortable with the sensation, but she could deal with it much better in this life than her last. With the meditation skill finally developed alongside mana orb though, Nira felt ready to test out a few things. Reaching for the sensation of her mana again, she tried her best to memorize how it flowed within her arms and her wings.

From there, Nira tried to reconstruct those paths externally, focusing on visualizing a phantom arm for her first attempts. Every time she lost focus, she would regather what mana she could and start over from scratch. Mediating as needed, she felt annoyed when the system eventually interupted her with a reminder that she could use some water. Though she was much inclined to ignore it and keep going, Nira knew that if it wasn't the system reminding her, it would be the echo voice instead.

Deciding to get it out of the way with a sigh, she was about to activate muffle and fly off to the closest water source when an idea hit her. Couldn't she just work on a water magic skill and use that to get something to drink? It would be a lot safer than risking a quick water run.

Sitting down to focus again, Nira thought through all of the spells she'd seen used in games and decided to attempt water orb. So long as she didn't launch it into a container, she should be able to summon it and then drink it without it splashing everywhere. At least she hoped. That mana orb skill had been pretty willing to zip off once she completed it, so she could only hope water orbs didn't do the same.

Using her mana again, Nira focused on the idea of an orb of water floating in the air. She even started imagining how it would drop onto a leaf or into a cup with a splash, and didn't notice the monstrous deer in the moment because of it. Checking to see if anything happened, she would try a few more times before her mp ran out. Once that happened, she would finally try interacting with the system to chevk over her skills and to see if she'd made any progress in her goal.

"Um... System, bring up skill list?"

Danny was worse off then he thought but at least he knew he could contact the system with just his thoughts. System, how close am I to my next level up?" Things took a turn for the worse for him when he arrived at the pens and quickly drew the attention of what seemed to be an oddly aggressive type of chicken.

His first idea was to fight the animal off but with both his health and mana that low doing so felt stupid, plus it might ruin any chance of a peaceful negation with any other humans living on the farm. So with that in mind he went with plan B. Using his Levitation skill he floated up out of the bird's reach and onto the roof of the pen.

Relaxing as much as he could in his situation and hoping the "chicken' couldn't follow him up he activated Mana Vision and tried the spot on the roof with the most Mana Particles, planning to Meditate there in hopes his MP would recover faster than normal.

Status Update:
Hunger decreased. You are Peckish.
Thirst increased. You are Parched.

There are 3 Kele Shoots remaining.

You have reinforced the [Leaf Dress]! It is ever so slightly tougher!
System:Femus

Femus received the system message with mixed feelings. In part, they seemed redundant. However, it was also true that survival had to come before training and confirmation did not hurt. Nira seemed to have made some kind of breakthrough as she stretched and shifted the apparent direction of her training. It seemed that instant progress was as unlikely here as it was in their previous lives. But, progress could still be achieved.

Femus swallowed down his frustration and thirst for a moment as he observed three Bowhorn deer enter the clearing below them and begin grazing on the herbs there. Even if he was thirsty, it wouldn't kill him that quickly. The deer were powerful creatures with physical strength and speed far beyond Femus's own. The herbs were effectively unavailable until the deer moved on. Going around them for water was possible, but Femus did not know how far the river that the goblins spoke of was from this location. It wasn't likely that it would be inside the footpath. It might make for a good destination but the two were not quite ready yet. Oddly enough, Femus had to resist an urge to kill the male Bowhorn. With a stealthy approach from above he might be able to strike its spine with a burst of shock orbs. The blood of such a large creature would be an effective solution for his present thirst. But, the risk was too high.

He wondered if fear was going to become too great of a hindrance for him. His previous life had taught him exactly what happens when you attack a strong enemy. You might kill them, but they will likely kill you as well.

Femus contented himself with carefully studying each of the Bowhorns, studying their similarities to deer and other beasts of like shape and structure while he also used his Monster Analysis skill actively. He wanted to be certain of the location of the heart, liver, primary bones, and largest blood vessels. He would likely be hunting creatures like this soon enough. He wanted to hunt properly and make use of everything he could.

After he finished analyzing the three, he carefully reached out with Lesser Force to pluck a leaf. He then put the broken stem in his mouth and began to alternately suck and chew. The sap would not be very hydrating but it should keep him from being distracted while he continued training a little longer. Besides, training to withstand thirst and hunger could well save his life later on.

His first attempt seemed to get results but those results weren't decisive enough. The nature of the spell and the element seemed to resist his will. Perhaps his approach was backward? Shock Orb was described as having a homing attribute. Perhaps he could make use of that 'pull' to accelerate the flight speed. With that in mind, Femus focused his intent on the base of a small branch that stuck out from one of the common trees that surrounded them. Then, he envisioned that point being linked to his spell by a thread while channeling his mana into another needle-like Shock Orb. The concept in his mind was that the needle followed the string like a bead on a silk thread, slipping along without wandering and gaining speed as it went. Holding this many things in mind and in mana was not easy, it took all his concentration and the world around him vanished from his perception as he worked. He even forgot his own body as he sought to grease the thread with a tiny amount of electric mana before giving the dart an axial spin and firing it along the thread toward the chosen target.

After releasing the spell, Femus used Magic Analysis 2 as he studied every aspect of the spell in action. What parts of the method worked? Which ones didn't? Was part of his method in conflict with the rest? Was this 'straight line' path simply an unnatural form of movement for this element? Was it the level of his Mana Shape skill? He needed answers, and as many as possible.

"System." He thought as he began meditating to restore his depleted mana. "Please display unusable skills." However, as he examined what the system showed him, he began to focus on drawing some of his mana from the tree directly. He knew the tree had large mana reserves flowing through it. So, he simply pulled some of it through the bark where he rested. He also sought to smooth the flow of that mana to minimize any discomfort to the tree. Once he was again over his maximum mana, he sought to try something else.

He remembered asking his father about what people meant when they said 'A bolt from the blue.'. His father had needed to look up the answer and both of them had been surprised. Positively charged lightning that could strike from across the horizon. Lightning from a storm far away that could hit a person who had no idea it could reach them. Femus concentrated on making his Shock Orb absorb these qualities, locking onto a target at a distance and then jumping instantly to strike it. But, something about that didn't feel right. So, he stopped and attempted to deactivate the spell without losing the mana. Instead, he reached out and focused on a patch of ground with no branches above it. Then he concentrated on making that place attractive to lightning, so attractive that the surrounding trees would have no effect on the bolt's path from the clouds to the ground and back again. Femus also focused his will into his words as he spoke in a tone of command. "Strike, Lightning Bolt."

He used Magic Analysis 2 on this attempted spell as well. Then, he meditated back to full mana, checked on the Bowhorns down below, and decided to focus on something more immediately practical. Water.

He focused on his eyes, ears, and nose. He sought sight, sound, or scent of water in every direction. After trying two full turns with concentration and patience he took hold of his mana, regulating its flow through his body so that it concentrated in his eyes and nose and ears. He wanted to be able to detect hints of humidity in the air, the sound of water in the distance, the subtle changes in the forest lighting that might indicate the reflection of light off of a wet surface. But, in addition to all of these things, he also wanted to be able to perceive the element of water itself. If there was an electric element then there would be a water element. It made sense that the water element would gather around or emit from places with water. So, he searched.

~Temporary Campsite~

As soon as she hit the ground, she was once again unconscious. An unknown, yet seen before memory came rushing back as she found herself drifting upwards. Everything was so clear, what she had been trying to remember from before was now as clear as a hot summer day, yet now the vision she was seeing was vastly different.

The forest stretched far below, the cave no longer seen as she rose. A tree glowed in the distance, seemingly almost calling to her, but her vision traveled further north to the cold reaches of the world where ice and snow kissed the land. West, Guze and the now captive goblins made their way up mountains, but her vision was almost yanked up to a great, jagged, tear in the earth. Blackened, smooth stone stared back at her. Obsidian of some sort? She rose higher and higher, until she was floating miles above the planet.

Immediately upon stopping, she committed the entire planet she could see to memory with Memor Eyes. Every nook, cranny, every single place she could see. The tree, the blackened, scarred gouge in the land. The pristine snow white lands to the north. There was nothing saying she couldn't use her skills here, and she was going to make full usage of this new skill.

But...what else? She was here, floating in a void. It almost seemed like there was a palpable anticipation in the air, as if something was waiting for her to do something.

but what?

Everything seemed so...peaceful up here. Was this what going to space was like? Seeing everything from such a distance everything seemed so small? So insignificant? The problems of religion, politics and humans seeming so small and inconsequential from up here? Ha, if only everyone could see something like this in their time - they'd soon loose all sense of their own significance and likely turn out for the better.

...no, she shouldn't be so hopeful that human greed and such could ever be swayed by such a peaceful sight.

Ash turned her attention to the angry red clouds that seemed to be looming on an island. She vaguely recalled the Demon King being in her last evolution experience, but...

"Hmm...I don't supposed this Demon King is here again, is he..." She idly commented. First, Ash tried to move, testing her range of movements with this out of body experience. If she could master whatever this currently was, moving like this of her own free will while her body stayed elsewhere, that would be quite a great skill to master.

He could feel the stone; a sensation like a hand closing around something hard and solid, a feeling of weight as he tried to move it and failed, managing only to shift it a little instead. It was strange and wholly unexpected; Oberon had envisioned Lesser Force as being more akin to telekinesis, something divorced from tactile feedback, but it was more like he was reaching out with a third, phantom hand and grabbed the rock himself. He could feel the rock, but at the same time he couldn’t; it was less than his true sense of touch, like the hand was numb, instead offering only an awareness of contact.

However, while he had certainly grabbed hold of the pebble, he couldn’t move it. There was the feeling of weight, like he was trying to move a boulder rather than a tiny rock, like he was straining against something immovable. Was it a lack of power? Adding more Mana was the obvious solution, since it didn’t feel like he was doing anything wrong exactly. He added more Mana to his efforts, pushing more energy into the hold on the rock in order to strengthen or bolster the invisible hand, and at the same time put more intent behind it; rather than just trying to move the pebble at all he focused more on moving it in a certain direction. He pictured the pebble moving towards him, focused on pulling it closer, as he pumped more Mana into the spell.

Torrent was pleased with how the spell had started, even if it didn't seem to do anything yet. But that was, honestly, to be expected at this point. She could only think of a few times she had developed a spell or attack that worked noticeably properly the first time.

Repeating the process, she sat for longer, drawing in more and more of the energy from the light hitting her scales, until she felt that she could hold no more. This time, however, instead of pooling it and releasing it, she gathered it, holding it tight and compressed and separated from the rest of the energies. Once it felt like she couldn't do that anymore, she opened her mouth and imagined poking a hole in the front of the ball, letting it stream out at force, adding her own force and power to it.
