Hello Friends and Guild Members,

Today I share with you some very sad news, that our dearly beloved friend and community member, @Polymorpheus has passed away. We received this news from her immediate family members who now have access to the accounts.

Those who knew Poly, will know that she was battling a very difficult illness for a long time. You will also know that throughout this time, Poly was a tremendously strong, spirited member of our community, and a moderator of our Discord channel.

She loved this community, the hobby, and the people that she surrounded herself with to help, roleplay with, and just chat!

She was an extremely talented chess player and a lover of science and technology.

Poly also ran incredible dice rolling campaigns in Discord.

She had a very sharp sense of humour, with jokes seemingly loaded up her sleeve at all times. I remember her even writing an amazing rap that just roasted everyone else’s efforts and sent them packing.

Mostly, I know I’ll remember Poly as a trooper, a kind soul, and a quiet friend who was often a steady shoulder when she was holding so much of her own too.

May her memory always be a blessing to us; and may she be at peaceful rest.

For those who weren't on the discord or haven't spoken to them for awhile, they were Catchamber.

I'll miss them. They always supported me in my projects and faced their sickness with a bravery that I could never hope to meet. I pray they're in a better place.

You know death is a hard thing for anyone to understand or comprehend, it's the end and the last chapter of our lives. We sometimes take it for granted and never realize how lucky or blessed we are to experience the wonders of life, ignorance is bliss. I experienced loss too and I understand how tough it can be to deal with the pain and heartache. We are all chasing something even if our goals are fanciful, it doesn't matter what the ends are it's the means to the end what matters in this life.

I did not know @Polymorpheus, but I think no matter the circumstances I care about all lifes and when one ends, no matter how little I knew them or spoke to them that I would honor their life.

Rest in peace stranger, and god bless you.

I didn't know Poly well, but I've always had a very positive impression of them. They were so sweet and compassionate. Whenever I was feeling down either that I would express in a status or how I was moping around RPGO, Poly always reached out in some regard. It wasn't much, but that always stuck with me. And I always felt they were so easy to talk to. You could have a casual conversation with them and it never felt difficult at all.

I just can't believe they're actually gone.

Poly was a good friend.

Her and I argued a lot and had a lot of different perspectives but it was always interesting conversation and we were always friends. She was one of those folks you didn't really hear a bad thing about in RPGO and there was a damn good reason for that.

I got to participate in a few RPs with her, mostly the pen and paper sort, and her characters were always some of my favorites. She was smart as a tack and so were her characters. When the rest of us were bumbling about she was solving weird puzzles and keeping things moving.

We talked a decent bit as her condition worsened and through it all she was stronger than I would have thought possible. She had a better attitude about the stuff she was going through than I did. She kept her sense of humor through it all. She was incredibly optimistic even through all her difficulties. A futurist to the end.

I'm going to miss talking with her about super algae technology and androids and the future of schools. I hope you're skipping through daisies on the other side buddy.

Over my time at RPG, I never got to know Poly too much beyond the odd conversation. However to hear that someone has lost their battle with cancer is always a sad day indeed. More so when that person was an active, shining light in your community. Poly was always ready to talk with people, even on topics that some found uncomfortable or were unwilling to tread. Poly always had something to add to the conversation, to move it along and develop it.

At least Poly is no longer suffering. Its a grim tradeoff, knowing that we will never hear their voice again, or be able to converse like we all did. But now Poly can rest peacefully, and all we have to do, is make sue they are never forgotten.

My sincerest condolences to the family. (Will be in my prayers tonight, for whatever that's worth.)

Despite my many conversations with Catchamber/Polymorpheus, I didn't know her very well. But she always seemed eager to have a discussion with me. So it's a real shame that I won't get the chance to have another one.

I'm sure you'll be missed by many. God bless.

Oh shit, I knew Poly was ill, didn't realise just how ill though.

Anyway, while I never roleplayed with her, I did have a bunch of discussions (and a few dumb arguments) with her in current affairs on the Guild's discord over the years. While I can't say that we were on the same side in a huge number of those, I will miss her contributions to the discourse.

Goes to show, be nice to people on the internet, even the ones you argue with. Don't let the last thing you say to someone be part of some bullshit flame war.

I'll remember Poly as an active and staunch debater, an unabashed optimist for the future of mankind and its technological marvels, and a relentlessly creative spirit. I will also remember and be grateful for her contributions to the moderation of the Discord server. She was offering to help out in that capacity until the bitter end.

Poly could be strict and uncompromising, but she was also unwavering in her convictions and her standards. I am reminded of Cato the Younger in that regard, a man famous for his moral integrity and fearlessness in the face of certain death.

Rest in peace. Mankind will sail the stars, and we will find you there amidst the light eternal.

poly's idea of heaven was to be brought back to life using the power of computer simulations to spearpoint the expansion of humanity into interstellar space

I think we might be able to pull that off someday

Like many of us who knew Poly, she made an impact on me and I’ll never forget her. She was strong, incredibly smart, and a kind soul that constantly looked out for those she cared about, even when she wasn’t feeling well herself.

We were all lucky to know her, and while I’m devastated, I’m also happy she’s no longer in pain and at peace.

I’d like to share a quote Poly sent me during one of our last conversations that shows just the type of person she was.

“I want everyone to have the happiest, healthiest, and safest lives they can, if they want to. I already have everything I need, and I like to make a positive difference... I know a lot of people would just focus on themselves if they were in my shoes, and they'd have every right to. I've been told my prognosis is not very good, and my family was told I only have a few months left. But, I don't want to spend the rest of my days being so selfish as to only focus on me. I want to do as much as I can for as many people as I can before I'm gone, because I feel like it's the right thing to do. And it makes me happy.”

Rest easy, Pol. 🖤

They were always fair-minded to me. Shouldn't have passed so young.

They declared interest in one of my RPs like two years ago I think which didn't work out because we were full at the time and then they got busy. We didn't talk often, and we had our differences of opinion, but I always tended to appreciate their perspective. Their circumstances remind me of other RPers I have personally seen pass away too young and for their close friends this must be harrowing. My deepest prayers go to their family and friends. This should have never happened.

I did not know her, or at least not well, but this is indeed sad news. She is a great person, i could tell from her statuses alone. I would smile from one of her statuses at times.

She was sweet, caring, and a good friend from what others have said and from what I, myself, have observed. My condolences go to her family and other loved ones, including her closest friends.

She was taken from this world too soon, and I hope she is ok wherever she is now. -looks at the sky-

She is no longer in any pain and hopefully she will be able to rest in peace.

We may all be able to see her, or see her again for most here, someday.
May the heavens' newest star shine brightly.

For me, I and Poly did have a lot to talk about. She shared her side and illnesses to me in a time where I was entangled in my anger and frustration and understood me for what I was feeling and going through when I asked/wanted to be understood from my side of perspective but she opened a perspective that I didn't look at as much.

As a moderator and person, she was a kind person. One of few moderators I will say I could outright trust going to as she understood my initial distrust. She took time out to even help me out of my stoop despite being in one herself that was daily. She was also unwavering in her convictions and her side of optimism in her own way. She had similar interests to me outside of here being a chess player and a lover of science and technology.

One of my regrets is that I wish I snapped out of my anger and frustration sooner, I believed people like her with the positive traits they carried should be more common but was easy to talk to from one person to the next. You could have a casual conversation with people like that and it flowed as well as water.

She was one of the few steady shoulders I had when she was holding so much of her own too, her own battles and fighting. I'm not alone in saying this but I tire of the good people going too soon. Only upside I could see is that she is no longer in pain.
She'll be greatly missed.

I knew her and we talked casually but probably not in the depths of friendship like others have expressed her, she was kind and a gentle soul and I'm mourning for her family's loss.

Rest easy Poly.

I know Poly would have loved to see all of the people who enjoyed them on this thread, saying how they'll miss them. I'll miss us talking about politics a lot, tbh.

I know that this is not my conversation to piece my words but as a fellow human just wanted you to know that I extend my very most heartfelt sympathies to your beloved friend who passed. I did not know of her in words or by name but I thought that it would be best to say this. If any of you ever need a listening ear, a conversational piece to voice concerns to or a shoulder to cry on I am always here. (Please, no negative messages. Just a passer by extending his wishes.)

Poly was a close friend of mine. One of my best friends. To see her pass on from this world gives me more sadness than I have felt in a long, long time. She was a kind, thoughtful, intelligent, and responsible person. She fought so hard. I have the utmost respect for her, and the utmost respect for the strength she had that I could never hope to muster myself.

Despite her condition and all that she was going through, she still had the strength of heart to help me in some of my lowest lows.
Despite her condition and all that she was going through, she still had the strength of mind to aspire to be and create greatness and loving.
Despite her condition and all that she was going through, she still had the strength of will to persevere beyond pain and heal that of others. She was a helping hand to many of her friends. She was always willing to listen and care, in spite of her pain.

I miss her so much already knwing she's passed. I knew this would come eventually, but.. I guess I just didn't expect it to come without warning. I don't know what I expected, really. You can't prepare yourself for the loss of such a close friend. I wish there were some way- any way to make it better, as childish as that may sound.
At risk of sounding cheesy, I just want to say for all of us who are grieving:

Poly may have physically passed, but she is not gone. She will remain in our hearts. I know she will in mine. We cry because we can't make any more memories with her, but the ones we already have will be cherished until we ourselves pass too. That is true for me at the least.

It's a bit hard to compose myself right now and I'm sure i've made several errors while typing this, but I just wanted to share my piece. It wouldn't feel right not to.
-

..We love you so, so much, and will always have you in our hearts, Poly.

I'm so sorry.
