Ash Holloway

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

The journey over to the buffet was short, in terms of raw, proximal distance, but this was a social gathering. There were bound to be little conversational pitfalls and obstacles that prevented Captain Holloway & Lt. Commander Martin from their direct yet discreet mission to move from Point A to Point B and secure personal foodstuffs. It was not ideal, but it was quite expected. What was not expected was a tiny grunt from Thana as soon as James came into clear view. A microsecond of hesitation told him all he needed to know. Thana's desire to be in that room was coming to an end. He stopped short and looked back at his guest, an uphrased question in his eyes.

In a second or two, Ash thought he understood. In hindsight, he really didn't get her motivation, but the baseline desire to wrap things up came through well enough. He gave her the smallest of nods, just enough to indicate a hint of understanding.

It was about this time that one of the Security personnel at the event walked straight to Ash and asked him for a private and immediate word. An onlooker might see Ash's ordinarily neutral face dropped, slowly but surely, into a depressed scowl. Ash sighed heavily, thanked the man, and leaned in close to give him a set of orders. In response, he snapped to attention and gave him a sharp salute before moving immediately to the tables of food. The soldier grabbed two plates and began loading them up.

Meanwhile, Ashton turned back to Thana, intoning in a low voice, "I'm back on the clock, ma'am." His posture straightened considerably, and the semi-relaxed look he had in his eyes vanished, replaced with a distant glare common to combat officers and Irish mothers (loads of transferable skills between the two professions). "Please wait here. This should only take a minute." He scanned the crowd, eventually locating the object of his coming attentions. Luckily she was sitting alone at a table in the corner of the room, away from the main crowd. He approached with a discouraged look on his face.

"Leave the glass on the table, Bryn. Collect your plate, and go home. Consider yourself confined to quarters until tomorrow morning. Someone will be escorting you. Report to my office first thing - we will discuss your new job assignments then. Do not take action to the contrary." His tone was low, even, and assertive to the extreme. Ash's wasn't yelling, nor drawing attention. But there was a definite "proceed at your own risk" quality he used to use in his previous life as a Combat Engineer. This was not up for debate, and the direct manner inferred that there would be consequences otherwise.

"A cup you could have just asked for is a poor reason to break my trust. I'm disappointed, Bryn. And you owe Jim an apology."

He didn't care to wait for a response. Ash left. Discussion could wait until tomorrow morning; he just wasn't having it right then. The thought smacked him, and pretty hard: This was just a symptom of an overall difficulty that was going in in Newnan. Ash had been taking a more permissive, indirect method with this place than he should have been, and for far too long. He had his reasons, but they weren't good enough to warrant his lack of direct action. Too much was allowed to let slide. Well, that was going to change, and first thing in the morning. The Newnan Safe Zone was established as an impromptu community founded by a joint group of military personnel, and he was the present commanding officer. Petty theft and insubordination was not going to be tolerated; the first pickings at a thread that threatened to unravel what they had worked and fought and bled and died for. Bryn wasn't the only one. Hell, there were others that were more deserving of his attention. It had to start somewhere, though, and this incident had been blatant.

Ash was halfway back to his Plus One when realizations about incidents around Newnan played in his head. Some even from today. People trying very hard not to follow his orders. Disturbances. Fights. Passing their responsibilities onto others. Leaving posts without proper relief. There were some people he should have disciplined with far less restraint than he had - and others he should have gotten rid of. Stitch in time, as it were. It made him angry, truly angry. Not just at some of the people of his community, but at himself for not doing more to keep this particular ship tight. "No fucking more..." Ash growled absently to himself, letting his native Virginian show. This was his mess, and he was going to start cleaning it up, for the sake of everyone living under his command. He couldn't be a part-time Commander anymore. He was Captain Ashton Jameson Fucking Holloway, son of moonshiners and mountain-folk, combat veteran and general beater of wholesale ass for his country, his family, and his people.

He returned to Thana about the same time that the gentleman from security did; the former with a cold expression on his face and the latter carrying two covered plates and a large flask of something labeled "Peach Spirits". Ash relieved the man of his load, and instructed him to, "...see that Bryn gets home safely, and report afterwards."

Obviously, Ash wasn't feeling sociable anymore. "Lieutenant Commander, would you mind too much if we called it an evening? I'm afraid my heart isn't in this any longer." He motioned to Jim, pointed at his own eyes, and made a circular motion above his head. The returned nod indicated that Ash's nonverbal order was understood and accepted. He looked back to Thana, "Ma'am, if you're ready?"

Niesha

Location:building ten (medical garden)->Building Seven (rec)

Niesha nodded at Jack, ,but did wondered what Tatiana could be doing, right then of al times, yet she doubted there would be too much to worry about, right then. Still...she'd thought they'd been safe before, and that hadn't been the case. She looked over when they started to talk about the chicken dance. Passing from foster home to foster home, state home and orphanages, Niesha had never gotten to really, experience the chicken dance. She glanced away, deciding not to say anything. She would probably make a fool of herself, even as the child in her heart wanted to join in. She glanced about them, then turned her attention to Victor, about to speak, but hesitated and instead watched him walk away, turning her attention back to Jack and Tatiana as she returned, she couldn't help but smile at Jack's reaction to Tatiana's returned presence.

There was no sadness at all, for which Niesha was...well, not happy about, but it was perhaps a start to heal. Yet she knew that perhaps she'd never get over losing Sophia. It was still nice to know that she could feel happiness, for someone else's happiness. As Kristina asked what Tatiana had, Niesha glanced over the other woman, wondering herself for a moment what could be in a in gift box like that, before she said softly to Kristina "Perhaps we should let them be, a moment, Kris"

She was sure that the two might like a few moments of privacy, and her mind flicked topics a moment, glancing to Kristina, nudging her slightly, "Lets get some food, why don't we? You chugged that drink quite quickly, after all"

She could feel Beatrice would rather be anywhere else than right there. Whether it was because it was a wedding or because they were being lovey-dovey, she wasn't sure. Either way, Ray went off to get food, hopefully for the both of them, and she was left alone. She liked Beatrice, but she wondered what they could talk about.

"The bride is the focus for all of this. They did a nice job with everything. For one night, just to get away from it all. Back to the usual daily life here tomorrow. Whether you like this type of stuff or not, sometimes you need reminders that you're alive, especially nowadays. All to quickly, the mundane of daily life can get to you to the point where you aren't sure if you're human anymore. I appreciate being a part of this community now and I am willing to help wherever I am needed, but having days like this are important. Sometimes you need to be willing to break down the walls, even for one night." At that point, she wasn't sure if she was referring to Bea or herself. Maybe both?

Tatiana Korvo

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: Jack, Froggy, Kris

Tatiana was on cloud nine. Everything had goner perfectly that day, or so she thought. She didn't know what people were thinking or talking about while she was away to grab the small gift bag. Had she known she might not have brought it out, she probably wouldn't have. She wasn't sure what was going on when she saw Bryn leaving the reception with one of the members of Newnan following close behind her. She didn't think anything about it, Bryn was a quiet person. Maybe she just wanted some alone time or time without so many people around. Anyways, her mind was on Jack just as it should have been.

Froggy was heading out as well. Smiling at Riley and letting her know that he had back over to the infirmary to give Medic a break so he could come and enjoy some of the festivities. He bid everyone good bye and gave Tatiana and Jack tight hugs before leaving the reception. The doctor ended up taking Ciel with him, figuring it was about time for the boy to get a breathing treatment before it got too late and maybe give him something to help him sleep. The boy looked like he hadn't rested in days.

Tatiana smiled as she stepped over to Jack once Froggy had left and rested her head on his shoulder. "Dah, everything is perfect," she said with a bright smiled. Looking at Kris she pursed her lips and shook her head. "Nonya," she said playfully before sticking her tongue out. Handing the bag over to Jack she giggled. It was a simple bag, one someone might have picked up from a gift store at the last minute. A little bit of tissue paper tucked into the top. Beneath that, once Jack reached in and looked, there was a thin long box that looked like a jewelry box. One that might hold a watch laid out or a bracelet. The bag was small, so only Jack would be able to see inside it once the paper was removed.

Ryan O'Reliy

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: Chloe, James, Ray

"Well no but damn," Ryan said before shoving another forkful of food into his mouth and shrugging slightly. Looking over Ryan cocked a brow as Ash went over to Bryn and then she quickly left with one of the security folk following on her heals. He nearly choked when he saw her pull out the glass from her sleeve and rest it on the table.

"And they were worried about me," he smirked through the chewing and motioning over to the glass. "Seems the Mute isn't as innocent as we thought," he snickered before his plate was finally filled with meat and so was Chloe's.

"Thanks Backwoods, not bad grub!" he said before turning, about to walk away when he nearly ran right into Ray and halted in his tracks.

"Damn ninja in there why don't ya," he laughed before giving Ray a pat on the shoulder and motioning for Chloe to go ahead and find a table for them. Weddings were actually something Ryan enjoyed. Granted this wedding wasn't like the ones he had been too for various members of his extended family back in New York. Those were large, loud, and drunken Irish Weddings. Like a Wake without the dead body. If there weren't at least three fights between cousins, it wasn't a party.

Then Ryan heard it, a tumble and the sound of wood hitting the ground. Turning around quickly he spotted Ray laid out flat on his back and his crutch had slid half way under the buffet table. No food hit anyone but seeing a one legged man sprawled out on the ground and a wet spot a few feet from him it was clear what happened. Ray has slipped on some melted snow that got carried in on everyone's shoes.

Ryan wasted no time, moving over to Ray quickly but he wasn't helping the man up. He looked like an umpire from baseball (well besides the plate of food he was carrying) and made a slow sweeping motion with his arms. "Safe!" he laughed loudly before he busted out laughing. Standing up, he held out his free hand to Ray to help him up off the floor if he wanted it. "Okay, maybe ye need some more Ninja training, or maybe yer just the Great White Ninja!"

Sana Rouen

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: No one

Sana was going to take a seat with Bryn but by the time she spotted her Bryn was leaving. Sana cocked a brow as she hadn't seen anything go down, her eyes looking everywhere but where the woman had been. So she had missed Ash talking to Bryn and the glass being revealed. Sana thought it was strange that Bryn was leaving but she figured she would find out later. She wanted to eat and it was probably a good idea for her not to talk to anyone right then.

Granted, she didn't get her wish. Soon as she sat down Miss Sally and Lyon came and sat down beside her. She grumbled under her breath, looking away from them and seeing that Beni was leaving as well. She figured he would be leaving early now that the wedding was over. Peaches was in his arms and having that dog running around was probably not a good idea. Her brows rose quickly as she heard the spill and her eyes darted over to see Ray. She couldn't help but smirk. Anyone falling on their ass was pure comedic gold to her. It was to most people. Hell, they hadn't had America's Funniest Home Video's for nothing. Crotch shots and ass busting were always tops.

Gavin Comfort

Location: Three miles west of Newnan, in the snow.
Interacting With: Ravi

Gavin couldn't help but laugh as Ravi joined in. It was good to see his friend smile. The man didn't smile enough as far as Gavin was concerned. Granted he didn't have the hang ups with killing Eaters like Ravi did. Gavin had long ago been able to push away that they were human anymore. He felt no remorse for putting them down. To him, he was doing them a favor. Figuring that anyone they used to be wouldn't want to be walking around performing cannibalism on everyone they came across.

Ravi still seemed to look at them like Old Yeller. He's my dog ma. I'll do it. Tear. Yeah, Gavin cried at the end of Old Yeller but who didn't? He figured only Walkers and people who had about as much humanity as a Roamer. If ya didn't cry at the end of Old Yeller there was only one excuse Gavin would accept - you hadn't seen it. Granted, back to Walkers, maybe Gavin had a little too much fun putting them down but hey you had to enjoy the little things and not getting eaten was a good thing!

Looking back at Ravi as he continued to trudged through the snow he got a devious look on his face. Ravi had joined in. It meant it was time. Time for the same damn song he always brought up when Ravi would join in. There was only song right for those moments. So turning forward Gavin kept pushing the snow out of his way as he walked and started to sing again. "You creep into my heart and make my heart burn!"

Amelia Payne

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

β€œAlright then, what about tomorrow after our duties are over with?” Amelia asked with a smile, looking at her friend. Frankly with all this snow and cold making the outside nearly impossible to stand for extended periods of time, hanging somewhere indoors was the best thing to do, usually at someplace where there's heating, but covering yourself with bunch of blankets, clothes and so on also worked.

β€œI see, if you stay to help, I will too.” Amelia stated quietly.” I'd prefer to not walk home alone later, besides helping you if so will be fun.” She stated, throwing glances at her friend and around the reception area. Soon enough Riley would go singing again, suddenly she couldn't stop herself from letting a short giggle as for some reason she remembered their talk about overalls and an image of Riley in overalls with makeshift banjo ran though her mind.

β€œFood it is then, lead the way.” She agreed and quickly followed her friend. Food was something she'd enjoy quite a lot right now actually. She didn't eat much in general, but today she had nothing to eat so far. She also grabbed a plate and quickly got in line right after her friend, but Ray got in line before her. She smiled at him and then noticed Victor as Riley greeted him.

β€œHi, Froggy!” Amelia also greeted him with with a big smile. The doctor was one of the not very big in number people she enjoyed and had relatively easy time talking with. He was her friend! Sadly he seemed to be heading out now. She waved at him a little sad. Suddenly a loud thud pulled attention away as she saw Ray fall on the ground. Now that was NOT GOOD. She was about to offer to aid, but then Ryan did and she just felt uncomfortable since he was obviously stronger than him and it would be easier to get Ray up. Instead she just crouched to grab the crutch. It was not much considering, but it was something at least!

Riley Ridgeway

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

"Sounds great to me, my place or something then?" Riley asked looking at Amelia and gave her friend a soft smile, she remembered doing a few private performances back in the day for the sick and disabled before the outbreak for charity which she enjoyed doing back then giving back a little. She looked at Froggy as he was about to leave the party early, to relieve Medic from his duties. "Great seeing ya Frogs." Riley said as she waved him goodbye. Riley thought about offering her place in line for Raymond to get through, since he was disabled and all. She started to grab her plate putting the sides she wanted onto her plate, Riley looked at Amelia and gave her a soft smile and nod.

"Scared of the dark and going it alone or something?" Riley asked Amelia teasingly as Riley grabbed a little bit more, onto her plate. Riley looked at Bryn for a moment as she watched her friend starting to leave the party with someone behind her, wondering what that was all about. Bryn probably ended up getting bored or something, at least that's what she thought what it was, and it wasn't really her business to find out. Riley looked over her shoulder at Chloe who was standing by she gave her a quick nod, and then over at Ryan as he was about to leave once he had gotten his food from James. She thought about just going over and hanging out with Chloe for a little bit tonight as well, just to hang out and talk.

She moved down the line some more, she looked down seeing a wet spot on the floor and stepped over it so she wouldn't end up slipping over it. Riley lightly picked away at some of the food from her plate, she was pretty hungry. Then Riley heard a sudden loud yell and then a thud on the ground, she quickly turned seeing Ray laying flat on his back. Riley couldn't help but stifle a slight giggle at his accident, at least he wasn't holding anything sharp. But Riley did feel a little bit bad for the guy, he did just get humiliated in front of the whole crowd pretty much. Riley was about to kneel down and help him up, but Ryan had already beaten her to it, and Amelia as well grabbing his crutch that ended up sliding under the table. "You alright there Ray?" Riley asked him.

Kristina Smith

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Kristina was starting to get a little bit nosey trying to get a better look at what was in the bag that Tatiana had, then she pouted slightly looking at Tatiana and returned the gesture. "Nothing for me?" Kris asked jokingly, she knew that it was most likely something for Jack. Kristina turned her attention towards Niesha and gave her a slight nod and smile, she quickly went and gave them both a friendly hug and kiss on the cheek to both of them. "Don't get to loud tonight you two." Kristina said teasingly as she looked at her friend and nodded she was getting hungry.

"I'm ready when you are." Kris said softly as she started to get into line with the others, she started to grab her plate she looked over her shoulder as Kristina noticed Bryn starting to leave the party. She wasn't sure why though, Kristina looked back at Niesha as she handed her friend her plate. "I wonder why Bryn is leaving?" Kristina asked Niesha, she noticed Ray, Riley and Amelia both of them had gotten in line as well to grab their food.

Kris jumped slightly when she heard a scream and then a thud on the ground, looking down she saw Raymond had fallen onto the ground she was about to jump in and help him back up. But Ryan was already on top of it as he helped the guy back up. Kristina's eyes wondered over to the wet spot on the floor feeling bad he was now on the floor. "Are you hurt?" Kristina asked sounding concerned for her friend.

Raymond Mendoza

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Raymond started gathering his food onto the plate, he knew he couldn't hold another plate in his hand having to keep balance with a crutch and all is pretty hard anyway. Ray looked over at Tiffany and Beatrice as the two of them talked, he decided to put a little bit extra onto his plate so that Tiffany wouldn't have to get one herself. Ray listened in on Riley and Amelia's conversation as they started to grab their own food for themselves "Sorry man, guess you gotta be on your toes more a ninja walker might come and get ya." Ray said jokingly to Ryan as he nearly bumped into the Irish man, he didn't even notice the guy was in line before him. As Ryan walked away with his plate Ray gave him a slight friendly nod towards him.

As Ray moved down the line he didn't even notice that there was a wet spot on the floor, his foot ended up slipping causing Ray to let out a yell in surprise. Ray laid there on his back completely dazed and slightly confused at what had just happened, he felt his plate of food spilled over his clothes. Raymond grumbled to himself feeling humiliated somewhat as Ryan came over and like some baseball umpire and yelling safe.

Raymond reached out for Ryan's hand looking at the mess from the fall, at least it didn't land on anyone which was probably a good thing then Ray leaned on the table for support. "Might need a second leg to be a true ninja." Ray said sarcastically as he looked at Riley and then Kris as they both asked if he was alright. "I'm fine, aside from my clothes and pride." He said with a slight sigh, Amelia once handed him back his crutch. "Thanks." He said to her.

Meghna Kumar

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Meghna looked at Froggy and gave him a slight nod as she let him take Ciel off to get checked up at the infirmary, she gave him a friendly smile and wave to the two of them as they left. Meg looked around for a moment she saw her brother sitting with some others, she decided to go and grab herself a plate as well. But before that Meg started making her way over towards Tatiana and Jack to say hi and congratulate them as well. Meg started making her way across the room seeing her best friend once more as she saw him handing Jack a bag of some kind.

"You two look great together!" Meg said with a smile as she looked over she noticed Bryn starting to leave she was wondering why she was turning in so early. Meg then heard a yell and then a thud, she turned around as she saw Ray falling onto his back she was about to go over there and help out. But it seemed to be under control now as Ray was helped out by Ryan and Amelia letting out a slight sigh, hoping that he didn't hurt himself that he needed to go to the infirmary.

Jack Hudson

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

As Kris asked him whether or not Tatiana and he were planning on having kids, Jack shrugged. It wasn't a topic that they'd ever really discussed, and he couldn't be certain as to Tatiana's feelings on it. He was wary of the idea himself, as while Newnan was a safe zone, it wouldn't last forever. It was a truth that hardly anyone wanted to acknowledge--that one day, these walls would inevitably come crumbling down. But for the most part, his mind was focused on the amazing event that happened that day--he got married.

"Aren't you too young to be talkin' about that stuff?" Jack teased, once Kris and Niesha started to leave, and Kris made a comment about them not being too loud. "Corruptin' the youth, Niesha?" But he waved at them, and kissed Tatiana's forehead, the present in his hand. "My gift to you is at home--figuhed you wouldn't mind?" he asked, feeling a little embarrassed that he was empty handed.

He hugged Froggy back as the man left, with Bryn escorted out by a member of security. Of the people Jack expected to be escorted out, Bryn certainly wasn't one of them. He'd have put his money on Dick or O'Reily. But with the brief moment of privacy, Jack pulled out the tissue, and peeked inside of the box, hardly opening it. But that small peek was enough for him to recognize it for what it was.

For a mere moment, he forgot how to breathe. It felt like the wind had been knocked out of him, and all of the blood in his body seemed to rush to his head. If he hadn't been Newnan's Security Lead, and a former Cop, the sudden shock might've caused him to faint. "Solovey..." Jack said, his eyes still hugely wide, and his face breaking out into a nervous grin. Nervously excited was perhaps the best word for his emotions. He nearly dropped the present, his hands shaking, as he pulled his wife into a hug.

Jack was absolutely terrified, of course. And ecstatic at the same time. He hadn't even really known that this was something he wanted so badly--it just sort of came over him. "Guess I bettah stop swearin' around you so much, ya? Read Shakespeah or somethin' instead..." Jack chuckled, glancing at the present. He was so dazed that he hardly registered the sound of Ray falling to the ground, or Meg coming over to congratulate them. He nodded at Meg, a stupid, almost dumbfounded look of happiness and surprise on his face.

"Thanks, Meg."

Beatrice Decker

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

Beatrice couldn't help but feel slightly skeptical of Tiffany and Ray's relationship for a moment. Sure, the man had learned how to get around and live with only one leg--but with all the snow melting, letting him go off by himself to get food? Either the woman had a lot of faith in the man to not fall on his ass, or she didn't care. Beatrice hoped ever so slightly for the latter, but with the lovey-dovey nature those two had, her money was on the former.

"Tearing down walls isn't exactly the objective here in Newnan," Beatrice observed a bit dryly. Her sense of humor was just like that--here Tiffany was, wanting to tear down walls, when they had spent ages fixing up walls and creating new ones. Walls were what protected them, what kept them from dying and waking up the next morning with a craving for flesh.

A few people seemed to be trickling out of the reception, and Beatrice couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. Froggy and the kid left, and the cute mute, Brynn, left as well. Still, she was having a conversation with her friend. Only an asshole would walk out now, and as she glanced over at the food table, she saw Ray on his ass. She couldn't help but chuckle ever so slightly.

"He's got the grace of a toddler on skates," Beatrice joked.

Chloe Ridgeway

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

Chloe snickered, feeling ever so slightly more comfortable with Brynn gone. She'd never felt particularly at ease around the mute, always certain that the woman was up to something. She'd been in prison--it was always the quiet ones that were the most batshit bitches, the ones that shanked someone in the middle of the night and then took a crap in your bed. They were unpredictable, and for Chloe, she didn't enjoy that. Her entire livelihood as a smuggler required a certain amount of chaos--but chaos that she could use for her advantage, chaos that she could control.

"Speak for yourself, she's always given me the creeps," Chloe commented, rolling her eyes as Ryan just kept going at his food. He really lived up to the teenage boy stereotype--and the man was forty years old. For a moment, Chloe realized the man likely had gone to prison for the first time before she had even gotten her braces off. Thinking of it that way, his attraction to her seemed just a little bit more creepy. But she brushed it off. As long as he wasn't grabbing at her, it was fine. In the end of the world, having a man be obsessed with you and willing to fetch you things wasn't something she wanted to stop.

She cracked a bit of a smile at Ray's display, feeling ever so guilty at her reaction. The man was her friend, but fuck, it was funny. Closest thing to a comedy show--her guilty pleasure--that she'd seen in ages. With people swarming around to help him up, Chloe figured it'd be best for her to hang back and grab a table. Too many people crowding around and Ray'd never get to his feet...or rather, his foot.

"Better watch out for those Teenage Mutant Ninja Walkers," Chloe joked to Ryan with a wink, punching him playfully on the arm before heading over to find a table for them.

Ravi Chakrabarti

Location: Three miles west of Newnan, in the snow.

Ravi shook his head slightly, stopping for a moment where he stood in the snow. The Last Duet hadn't been too popular in the United Kingdom. And by the time he moved to the States, its popularity had gone down. However, he had heard it once before, when he was flipping through the channels at home and landed on HBO. The memory had been vague, but ever since Gavin found out he knew the song, it was his go to song to sing.

"Why must I always be the Nazi?" Ravi groaned slightly, before jumping in on the song. The bigger irony was how low the other part required his voice to go, and he couldn't help but wish ever so slightly that he could've gotten the higher part. "You sneak into my mind and make my head ache~" Ravi sang, exchanging the verses with Gavin as they went.

It was nice, singing along the way to this Peachtree City place. Otherwise, he could've been focusing on how much he hated the cold and the snow at the moment--about how he could hardly feel his fingers with the snow all around. The cabin they left behind was more and more appealing as they went along. Hopefully, the trip wouldn't take all too much longer. By his estimation, they'd already walked a few miles.

Black James(!)

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

It was a rare thing for James to be in a room and not be the loud and bombastic center of attention. But this was most definitely not his moment in the sun. Oh no, James was a mere bit player in the great orchestra of Newnan on that evening. The happy couple, Jack and Tatiana, took front row and center in the hearts and thoughts of the community, and rightfully so. There was no sliver of possibility that James had ever imagined himself helping out with a bonafide wedding reception, bu he was sure glad that he had the honor of doing just that.

And of course, there was the coming of another highly unexpected occurrence - Thana Martin. It was pure joy seeing her again, but he could not help but notice a hair of standoffishness. Well, time and the experiences that come along with it have ways of changing people, probably himself included. Again, something bigger and more important than himself today. It seemed like James was marginalized as the handler of yummy foodstuffs, a fate which was just fine with him that evening.

Of course, he needed to eat, too. A number of expert strokes of his knife and serving fork, and James had removed enough sliced and chopped pork to keep the line moving briskly for quite some time. He then located a plate, moved to the other side of the tables, and saw to loading himself down like a death row inmate's last meal setup. Oh, he was going to give the mandatory congratulations to the happy couple, but in the meantime, James was going to scarf down the fruits of his labor. And the vegetables of his labor. And a whole lot of the meats of his labor, too. Yes sir, the indomitable blackneck was going to feast.

James did take some note in two very interesting happenings of the last few minutes, though. Ray's tumble onto the floor, which he viewed with some regret. "Naw, baby. That's good food they's spillin'...." But this was voiced only after he was sure that the pedally challenged survivor was otherwise okay. The next one was the quiet talk that Ash had with Bryn, followed by her exit. There might be something there. But now, there was a party. And Bryn had the tendency to go off on her own a lot, anyway. Maybe it was nothing.

Plate and foamy glass in hand, and wearing that godawful black-and-camo formal suit (and don't forget cowboy hat) James made his way over to a table occupied by Miss Sally, Lyon, and Sana. "Hey hey, y'all mind if I rest my plate here and my ass in front of it? Fella's gotta eat, might as well do it with folks."

Thana was grateful that Ash had picked up on her little throat clearing, she didn't want to be there much longer. The day had been eventful enough for her without the wedding. It wasn't that she was the type to not like to be around people but for today she was approaching her maximum. She walked with him over towards the buffet and was glad to finally be able to get food but it seemed that was going to have to wait again. Someone came over and Thana stood there, waiting. Seeing Ash's face drop she wondered what was going on and as he excused himself she gave a light nod of understanding.

Clasping her hands in front of her she watched him as he moved off to speak with someone and continued to watch the scene. It was quick and he was back over to her within a few moments. His face seemed to twist and he looked to have mumbled something to himself as he came back over. She wasn't sure what was going on as her eyes stayed on Ash and not Bryn. That was until he stated his heart was no longer in being there. Her eyes glanced over towards Bryn and she watched as the glass was removed from her sleeve before she was escorted out. That explained it.

"Seems like a good time to go," she said in a quite understanding voice. It didn't feel like things would seem too terribly off if they left. Others were leaving as well, seemed the door was revolving for the reception. Probably for the best. Taking one of the plates she slipped her free arm through his and gestured with her head towards the door. "Ready when you are." She hadn't been expecting to leave this early in the evening but might as well. She didn't know these people, other than James to a certain extent, and it had been a long day. A quiet meal without being introduced to even more people was a good thing in her mind.

The hollow, wooden noise of an artificial limb forcibly losing traction with the floor sounded from nearby, followed by the meaty crumpling sound of a body hitting the floor. Ash's rage-filled internal monologue had paused for a moment while Thana was speaking to him, but now it was fully (if temporarily) waylaid by a mixture of concern for the fallen man and the pleas of his inner twelve-year-old trying to push a snicker past his outer emotional defenses. It was a difficult emotion to describe. Luckily, he didn't have to. Of all people, Ryan offered to help out. After he gave Ray a bit of hassle for his trouble, but still, he offered. The sound caused Thana to look over towards Ray but her face remained stoic as she watched the scene unfold. Her eyes following Ryan as he offered to help after a little heckling.

Ash had no desire to draw more attention to the situation, and so after a couple seconds' view to make sure Ray was more or less alright, he locked eyes with Thana and responded, "Ready as I'm going to be." They had made a quick appearance, given over wedding gifts, and made a few quick introductions before more official business pulled Ash back to the realities of their situation. It was an otherwise satisfactory evening. He would be leaning hard on the community come tomorrow, but for the remainder of this day, he could share a quiet and well prepared meal with a new acquaintance, the rumors for which he would have to hear about for a while yet.

Again arm-in-arm with his Plus One, Ash started toward the front doors. Stepping outside of the doors, Thana glanced over her shoulder and watched the door shut fully before she faced forward again. It was about another two steps before her lips split and she cackled with laughter. Apparently she had found the scene hilarious but managed to hold it in just long enough to get out of eye and ear shot of those inside. People were coming and going but she didn't care at this point if anyone saw her laughter. She could be laughing at anything at this point. Ray falling, a silly thought that just went through her mind, something Ash whispered to her for all anyone knew.

Her eyes watering a bit as she tried to control the rolling laughter and managed to suppress it into a more manageable set of giggles and chuckles. "Sorry Captain, if I held that in any longer my teeth would have exploded," she said letting out a chortling sigh as she spoke.

A smile cracked Ash's face that he wasn't too horribly proud of. Despite the seriousness of his own situation, his voice hinted at restrained humor. "Ma'am, please. It's impolite to laugh at cripples." It seemed the appropriate response at the time, if ever so slightly out of character for him. "Okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Still feel like a tool for laughing about it, though." Spontaneous giggling, whatever motivated it, was a rare thing anymore. Sadly, Ash could not participate in it for very log before the weight of his planned re-assertion weighed upon him.

"I don't but then again I always did find humor in the weirdest of places," Thana said trying to stifle her giggles as they continued towards Ash's home. Cocking a brow slightly as his demeanor started to change to the more mundane again. Oh well at least he had cracked a bit of a joke.

"I'm sorry. I'm not really in a joking mood tonight. If it's all right with you, I'd rather get back and have a meal in front of a fireplace."

"Sounds like a plan," she said as she let the humor of the situation slip away as quickly as Ray had landed on his rear-end. Stepping up to his front door she stepped aside so he could unlock it and looked him over. He seemed to want to enjoy himself but kept reigning it back, made her wonder just what was going on. Though she figured it would be best not to ask right then.

The Captain wasted no time, setting his plate down upon the porch furniture and clicking open the door to his home. He motioned for his guest to enter, reclaimed his plate, and followed her in. Thana stepped in and out of the way, glancing around the home before looking over towards Ash. Locking the door back from the interior of his house was a much easier concern with full hands; he merely nudged the latch over until the hollow sound of the bolt's lateral movement found his ears and the latch met with solid resistance. He strode purposefully through the foyer and took a right, finding himself in one of the historic house's sitting rooms, in which lay a vintage furnishings including a couch, two armchairs, and most importantly, a large, framed fireplace.

The lowest of glows was visible from the bed of the fireplace, embers of an ignition past. It was safely contained inside of its iron grate and stone hearth. Ash set his covered plate and flask of clearish liquid upon the nearby coffee table, and moved to stoke the almost non-existent glow into a proper blaze. It was very dim in that room; perhaps it was why he didn't see the movement until it was too late. An unnamed entity opened its reflective, feline eyes and locked Ash into a stare from atop the mantle, just a couple of feet from his face. It blinked once, slowly, and leapt from its resting place to slink elsewhere in the room, somewhere in the pitch gloom the evening provided. Ash was startled. "Jesus! Schrodinger!" he called in his momentary shock.

Peeking her head into the room before fully stepping in Thana gave a perplexed look before spotting the orange tabby. Smirking she shook her head a bit before glancing in Ash's direction. Ash sighed with light irritation, and in a softer voice said, "Please have a seat, ma'am. I'll have some light in a couple minutes. Oh, go ahead and start without me. You must be hungry."

Setting her plate down Thana nodded. Yet instead of sitting down she righted herself as she pulled her gun from the coat pocket and set it on the table and then removing the coat itself. "I am but b'fore I eat, I have a question. Where am I bunkin' this evenin?"

"Fair question." remarked Ash, pulling a few logs from a metal compartment next to the fireplace. He began stacking them within the hearth as he continued, "I have three ideas for that. James lives by himself in another historic building just around the block. There's a spare room there you can use. Same applies here - I generally quarter in the garret upstairs. There's another room across from it, used to be a study. You're welcome to it for the time being. If the idea seems a little inappropriate, you can bunk with Miss Sally. I understand she's an excellent hostess, and I'm sure she has room."

Ash stuffed a handful of tinder underneath the logs and blew gently upon it. A small flame coaxed itself awake, hopefully to catch the larger pieces above. He looked almost proud of himself, a rather primal "I Have Made Fire" expression that quickly faded. "James and Sally are still at the party, I think. I can send word to them quietly if you make a decision that way."

Thana thought for a moment as she drummed her fingers against her hip and scrunched her lips to the side. After a few moments of contemplation and weighing out her options she turned back towards her host. "Captain, permission to speak freely?"

It was rarely a pleasant subject that required permission to speak freely. Still, Ash found the formality novel and respectful. That and immediate curiosity got the better of him. With solid voice he responded, "Granted."

"To be frank sir, the last thing I want to do is bunk up with James. Hits a tad to close to home currently and I don't want to deal with questions. As far as Miss Sally goes, she seems nice enough but a bit of a plotter. After the look she gave the two of us this evenin' when she found out I was yer plus one, well that told me more than I needed to know. So if you don't mind, I will reside here this evenin'. Yer the only one that seems to look at me and not be seein' someone else." Her voice was rather matter-of-fact as she spoke, and slipped into droll almost; as if she was reading from a drilling manual.

Then her tone took a softer tune as she added a bit more to what she had already said. "And Captain, you ain't lookin' like you need to be left alone with a bottle this evenin'."

"Don't you worry about me, ma'am. I'll be just fine. Point of fact, I have big plans coming up for this place that will require me to be in good condition and even spirits. You're welcome to join me with that bottle, though."

The fire leapt to a respectable level of illumination and warmth as the larger pieces of split log slowly began to ignite within the fireplace. Satisfied, he moved to the couch and, like his guest, divested himself of his weapons and radio upon the coffee table. Settling down in front of his plate, he looked to Thana, saying, "But I would appreciate company, if you're willing. Eat up. I'll take care of your room upstairs after we're done here."

"In that case sir, I am going to get out of this getup' and get comfortable, heels and dresses aren't exactly my thing if I am not standing at attention," she said as she looked around. "Go ahead and start, I'll be right back," she added as she stepped out of the room and headed back to where she had changed earlier. If she was going to relax and enjoy the meal she figured she might as well stop being the woman in the red dress.

"That's a good idea..." Ash thought aloud absently. He hadn't even given thought to changing back into his more comfortable, everyday attire. He looked down at his very fine suit, which admittedly looked nice on him, and shook his head. Even if Ash ever was that guy before, he most assuredly wasn't the suit & tie type anymore. Ash removed his coat and tie, carefully folding them over an arm in as he rose to go change, himself. His regular clothing should still be neatly folded in the hallway bathroom, as well as the hanger and garment bag for his suit.

From the newly lit corner of the room, Schrodinger lifted his head from his position of repose and looked at Ash. If he didn't know any better, Ash would have sworn that the cat carried a smug, accusatory expression. He continued looking quietly at the Captain. "Don't you start, Schrodinger..." Ash warned. The cat yawned and lay its head back down, eyes narrowing in sleepy contentment. Ash shook his head and walked down to the bathroom, intentionally stepping heavily to announce his presence for his guest. If he was lucky and very quick, he would be back in the sitting room about the same time as Thana. The race was on.

As hungry as Thana was she wasn't in a rush. Stepping over to her clothing she looked at it and then turned around, looking for the bag of things that Miss Sally had handed her earlier. She had rummaged through it briefly but never taken a good look at what was inside. The day was wrapping up, sun was starting to set, and it seemed she would be bunking down for the evening. Flipping over the over flap of the bag she looked inside and jostled things around a bit. Inside was a couple of changes of clean clothing and something she hadn't quite expected.

Shrugging she got to changing, carefully hanging the dress back up in the garment bag and laying it over the arm of a chair. This day had turned out to be interesting to say the least. She still wasn't sure she would stay come morning. The place was nice enough and well put together but it had problems. Granted everywhere did, even before the outbreak. She had to wonder though if the supposed safety and community would be worth being surrounded by so many that had been close to Zoie.

Meanwhile, Ash was changing out his clothing with a sense of urgency disproportionate to the situation. It was as if the theme from The Lone Ranger were somehow playing in the background, motivating the man to such wearable textile gymnastics as was unseen since the first time Ash had to leave a boudoir as a teenager before his sweetheart's father got home. It was a very short matter of time before he was back in his grey and black "Class B's" and his suit was hung up on the back of the bathroom door, zipped up in its matte garment bag. He folded over his patrol cap and slipped it into a cargo pocket, then swiftly returned to the sitting room.

Ash lay his utility belt on the table next to his plate, fixed his pistol and knife to it, and waited patiently for his guest to return. The cat was still in extreme repose in the corner, seemingly uninterested in everything and everyone around it. Ash fought off the urge at huck a pillow at him. Schrodinger was comfortable. It would be a shame to run him off.

After finishing up and getting things straightened, Thana stepped out of the spare room and closed the door behind her. Making her way down the hall she stepped around the corner into the sitting room. Out of the dress she had found something more comfortable to wear and it hadn't been what she had rode into Newnan in. In her pack had been a set of dark blue fleece pajamas and she had figured why the hell not. The night was coming and it seemed that they were hunkered down for the evening. Giving Ash a shrug and a small smile she stepped over to the couch and plopped down in her bare feet.

"Figured we weren't goin' anywhere else tonight." Reaching over she picked up her plate and tucked her feet beneath her, resting the plate on her lap. "Mind handin me a fork? Don't wanna reach over ya."

Ash was staring. He didn't realize that he was staring until Thana started talking, which was followed by immediate feeling of self-consciousness. The request for a fork snapped him out of it. "Ah, yeah, umm... yes, ma'am." he stammered out, procuring a fork from the table and handing it over. He had not expected to see her dressed with such extreme informality. Perhaps even more than his first glimpse of her in the red dress, Ash looked upon her as a woman and not simply a colleague. Naturally, he had no desire to speak of this openly. Raw guilt alone would have prevented that, anyway. Trying to continue the conversation without tipping his hand too much, he responded, "Lord knows I have nowhere to be until morning."

"Well that's good," Thana said nonchalantly as she took the fork and rested back a bit getting comfortable. She hadn't noticed him staring, more concerned with the food than anything else at that point. The small piece of cornbread she had picked at earlier had only served to let her know she was hungry. Being around the smell of food at the reception had reminded her she hadn't eaten properly in a while. Sure she had MRE's in her pack but actual food hadn't been on the menu in a while.

Ash peeled the cover back from his plate of redneck epicure to inspect his supper for the day. The security guy certainly piled them thick and high. Ash poked into his sausage and grits with his own fork, and looked over to Thana with an unusually serene (for him) look on his face. "Maybe tomorrow, I can give you the grand tour. Newnan has quite a bit to offer the standard Apocalypse survivor - even something to offer the exceptional ones, too, if you feel like staying a while."

Smirking a bit to herself as she looked down at her plate and slipped her fork into the potato salad. "Is this where you tell me that I should give Newnan a chance?" she said as she glanced over to him out of the corner of her eye. It had been an on going thing since she arrived. It wasn't constant but it had been at least the third time since she arrived that he had brought up her staying longer than the night in Newnan. "Beginning to wonder if you had been a recruiter for a time before the outbreak," she said before taking a bite of her food and pulling the fork clean from between her lips as she gave him a bit of a look. Curving her fingers she held them in front of her lips as she finished her thought. "Alright, give me the pitch."

"Didn't realize I was being pushy about it." came from Ash after a hard swallow. "Sorry 'bout that." He shoveled a couple more bites in, chewing quickly. Apparently, he was more hungry than he thought. When he was clear to speak again, he motioned with his fork, punctuating his words as he spoke. "I honestly can't say that I have an 'elevator speech' for recruiting. Most people enter through the South Gate and are brought past livestock, get an okay look at crops in the distance and some of our facilities here, not to mention the expansive walls and armed guards. It does pretty much all of the talking for us. We sit down and have our little interview, and mostly it comes down to letting them know that we have a way of doing things here, finding out what they're good at, and saying that they're free to leave whenever."

Thana could understand him not really have to say things in the past. It was obvious why most would choose to stay in the town. Electricity was a large perk, the walls even more so. People here were clean and well taken care of, she hadn't seen signs of starvation and everyone seemed healthy. They had enough resources to have a wedding, to get dressed up; in some ways it was as if the outbreak had never happened. There were children and elderly. Most people probably came in and thought they had hit the jackpot. Granted Thana wasn't most people.

The Captain hesitated over a large bit of smoked pork, but decided to complete his thought before he mercilessly attacked and consumed it. "The best Sales Pitch I can think of revolves around what we're not. We aren't cannibals, we aren't bandits, we're not a murder cult either. There's no secret initiation where you come to realize that we aren't what we appear at face value. Mostly, we're a bunch of people that realized working together and keeping each other safe and fed is the best way to stay alive." Ash paused for a second or two, wary of his next statement. "And if I'm being completely open, I just had a feeling that you belong here. I'm not psychic or anything (I'm not sure if I even believe in psychics), but I think this could be a home. So yeah, give me a little time. If nothing else, I would value your opinion on the way we do some things." With that, the morsel of pork went down like a trooper.

Thana had kept her attention on Ash as he continued on. The fact he brought up what they weren't caused a slight chuckle to come from her lips. Him telling her what they weren't didn't put her at ease, it made her sarcastically question in her mind if she was eating the other white meat or the other other white meat. Was this a Bob-B-Q? He seemed trustworthy but Thana didn't give people the benefit of the doubt. They got a clean slate with her and when they marred it, it was marred for life. She wasn't as trusting as her doppelganger. Then his next words came and she slowly lowered her fork as he committed D-Day on the pork. That had come out of left field and she gave him a look as if she had just been smacked in the face with a trout on M-iRc back in the day.

Blinking a few times she lowered her fork and balled up her fist as she brought her hand up and covered her mouth slightly as she cleared her throat. Tilting her head to the side as she lowered her hand she looked back over towards Ash. "Permission to speak freely sir?"

It seemed just a little silly to Ash, asking permission to speak freely. Again. The paradox of Thana was that, while she insisted on dressing and lounging as comfortably as possible, her speech so far had given nary a hint of the casual nature that was to be found in almost every other facet of the woman. He sighed quietly, and looked her in the eyes. "Ma'am, I appreciate your formality. But our shared military experience aside, you are a welcome guest in my home. Let's assume that, at least for the duration of this conversation, you have full permission to speak freely. What's on your mind?"

"I'll consider it sir," she said between a few light coughs as she picked up her plate and let her feet hit the floor. Resting it on the table in front of them she picked up the bottle and took a quick swig to help with the tickle in the back of her throat. Normally she would have gotten or requested a glass but this was one of those tickles that usually hit people and then kept hitting until it sounded like they were dying. Usually right in the middle of a quiet scene in a movie or in the middle of finals. She wanted to stave it off as quickly as possible.

"Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the sentiment but I don't see myself as a guest. I see myself as an applicant. I see you as one as well. Both weighin' the other out to see if it is worth the investment. What we can get from each other in trade. How the world works, how it has always worked." Her voice was frank and even now that she had cleared away the tickle. What she said wasn't meant as an insult or to call things into question. She was being genuine when she spoke. Upfront and honest in what she said and how she felt about the situation.

Turning she crossed her legs and looked at him as she rested her hand on the back of the couch with the other in her lap. "Now, concerning what I was goin' to say. You say that ya would value my opinion on things and that you feel I belong here. I have to question why but that can wait. My opinion? I got too close to this place b'fore a gun was raised, ya need watches further out. I watched this place two days in the snow before approachin'. From what I saw of yer walls when I was shuffled in all cloak and dagger was that you should have water troughs along the walls collecting rain water and funnelin' it down to flora you can make climb or grow hydroponically in case of soil contamination or infestation. And if you aren't already I would bring in a large scale igloo style greenhouse to keep crops growing year round, utilize arctic crop growing techniques to have year round production during the few months in this state that it is cold and the few times we get a freeze like this."

She spoke like a professor as she gave a first analysis of Newnan, her hands moving as needed to accentuate her point before they came down and rested in her lap. Then came the rest. "You've told me what this place is since I didn't see it fully. You've told me what is isn't. So, what's wrong with the place? Other than petty theft." She asked him evenly when she brought up the theft she had seen. She wanted to know what she was gettin' into more than just her sister had been there first. This place seemed like Eden (the Bible Eden, not Peachtree City), but even Eden fell and it was because of something stupid.

That was a mouthful. And most of it seemed to be rooted in perfectly sound logic. But that last question hung in the air like a stale wind. "Fair enough. I'd like to see what you think of our medical garden and crops, once you get a closer look. Good or bad, I appreciate your input. Now, as to your question - sure. There are things that are wrong with this place. Some of which I intend to rectify directly. Others are not so simple."

Ash took up the bottle of peach liquor and imbibed a healthy swig of it, himself. "The biggest domestic problem is with our people, obviously. We have a collection of seemingly random individuals that have made this place their home, long after my people from Virginia and the former CO's people integrated with the few locals that remained here. Some of these people have more colorful personalities and tendencies that make them irritating at best. Some have a difficult time with the fact that there is a presence of authority here. The petty theft angle is new, to my knowledge."

Ash moved on to the next bit that gave him concern, "Further, we built these walls with expansion in mind. The upside is that we have a fair amount of unused buildings and open space. The downside is that we don't presently have numbers that I am comfortable to readily defend all of it. In times of crisis, we have to pull everyone back to the Inner Wall and go from there."

"Which moves us on to the big problem. There is a community living just east of here in Peachtree City. What I know of them came from two survivors of that place; your sister and a guy name of Ryan. (He's the one that called "Safe!" when Ray took his tumble.) They call their community Eden, and they seem to like to show up randomly, take shots at us and commit other acts of terror. They are a problem that I would like to see burned to the ground and stomped into dust. But right now, we barely have the ammunition to protect ourselves. If this issue is not resolved quickly and decisively, we will tax much of the resources to maintain our security, should this become all out war. I would firebomb their whole location, Lord knows we have enough alcohol to ash the place, but as I understand there are innocents there. If this aggression goes on, I will have to make a hard choice. Thankfully, it has been some time since they have made themselves known last."

There is was, open and bare. There was the risk of living in Newnan. Aside from the obvious issues of the Dead, there were issues of extreme personality conflict, a design flaw in the planning of the community, and the ever-lurking threat of Eden. Ash sincerely hoped that his sudden bout of blunt honesty didn't scare her off immediately.

Tiffany Lyle

Building 7 (Rec Center)

Before Tiffany could respond in kind, she heard a small crashing sound. She looked over to see Ray on the ground, his crutch away from him, and others around him all staring. "Oh no..." She got up immediately, but before she could rush over, she noticed others around him helping. Amelia got his crutch back and Ryan helping him up. She was thankful for that and he didn't look like he was in pain. Still though, she pushed her chair in, "I'm going to go help him back. I'll be back shortly."

She moved over to where Ray and the others were and sidled up to Ray, "Are you ok? Are you hurt? Do you need help getting back to your seat?" She ignored the others who were laughing at him. Seems they couldn't be bothered to at least check if he was all right. "I'll grab some food and bring it back, but let's get you to back to your seat," she said with a smile. She looked over at Ryan, "Thank you for helping him up." She left it at that. She still wasn't a fan of Ryan, but he did still help, so that painted him in a good light with her. She put her arm around Ray in an effort to lead him back to a chair.

Niesha

Location:building ten (medical garden)->Building Seven (rec)

Niesha looked over her shoulder at Jack, and smiled at him ”I prefer to think of it as the other way around, she corrupts me. Have...well, a good night” She said, looking back to Kristina and nodded, she reached for a plate, not even sure what she wanted, and just caught sight of Raymond falling. Wincing, Niesha at once moved to his side, desperately wanting to check him over, but figured if he could get up, then he was okay. Still, ,she watched him to ensure that everything was okay, before nodding to herself with satisfaction. She stepped back, letting him have his space, but was close enough to satisfy her concerns, as she turned to get a new plate for him, putting food on it, she caught a glance over Tatiana and Jack, and smiled to herself.

That happiness, that bright spark...looking about, Niesha was sure that people would fight for that. Hope had a way of fully people’s spirits and making them do things they might not think possible. This place had stood, and it would, even if it fell. Because it wasn’t the place that made it a community, it was the people. So she smiled and approached Ray, ”Here, Ray, some more food”, She said, giving Tiffany a smile, ”I’ll take it, for you” She said, kindly, not wanting to treat Raymond like he couldn’t do anything, and not wanting to step in with Tiffany helping, it was easier to simply be near.

Having been there to help Raymond when he came in, Niesha had rather enjoyed following up on his recovery, something that was life-long, and knew complications could come up, even years down the line. For now though, she just wanted to make sure that nothing had been jarred when he fell, she glanced back, to make sure that Kristina was getting some food for herself, as well. The girl needed something to soak up the drink she’d downed, and Niesha was going to make sure she ate.

Tatiana Korvo

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: Jack, Meg

Tatiana turned her head slightly as she heard Ray fall down and gave a concerned look for a moment before she spotted several rushing over to help him. Taking note he seemed to be alright she glanced up at Jack as he spoke and giggled lightly like a dove as she curled her head beneath his chin and leaned against him. "Do not change thing," she said sweetly as she wrapped her arms around him. She was just glad he seemed excited about everything. Their lives seemed to e falling into place and right then she didn't think she could ever be happier. Funny how things had worked out but she was not going to complain. This was their home now and they were living. Not just surviving.

Looking over at Meg she let go of Jack for a moment and pulled her in for a big hug. "Dhank you! For every thing!" she exclaimed happily. Letting her go she went back over to Jack and whispered against his ear, asking him a question. She made sure to keep her excitement in check to keep her voice down so only he heard her. She didn't want everyone to know what she was saying right then. Granted with the commotion of Ray falling it wasn't exactly quiet right then. And people were changing shifts, so some were coming and some were leaving.

Which she wished wasn't the case but she understood. Not everyone could stay the entire time. they had to keep the place safe on top of wedding. Yes, the wedding for her and Jack and many people thought it was all about the bride but Tatiana had wanted to do all of this because she felt the town deserved a time, at least a moment, when things were like they used to be before the outbreak. She was the towns counselor now and part of that included taking care of people's morale. She knew she couldn't make everyone happy but she figured something like this would do a world of good for a lot of people. Let them see that you could live and not just survive. She could have just kissed Jack, they could have just man and wife now. There were no laws and she wasn't particularly religious, especially after everything she had lived through. But this was about more than two people getting married, this was about hope, and the future. She hoped her and Jack showed others there was more out there than just surviving, that there was a chance for a future and that it was worth the risk.

Ryan O'Reliy

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: Chloe, Ray, Tiffany, and so forth

Helping Ray to his feet Ryan chuckled.

"Fuck, don't worry about it man. Sure it was funny as fuck but damn, everyone falls. Listen. Just yesterday I was out checking on the medical garden green house, and what do I see? That fucking orange furball just strutting down the side walk like he owned the damn place. Well, his ass hit a damn slick spot and he spun out. tried to get up and run but ended up running in place. Looked like a damn cartoon before he spun out again and went ass first right into a snow bank. I never laughed so hard in me fuckin' life. Then he got up and acted like it never happened before dashing off. And he's got four legs. Yours was a straight fall, seems you are better off than that orange tabby," Ryan laughed as he told the story and picturing that damn cat in his mind all over again.

"Yeah, no problem. He can pick my ass up and help me stumble home tossed this evening," he said towards those that were thanking him before giving Chloe a bit of a wink. Now that that was taken care of he looked around and took note of what was there and who wasn't.

"Now, where to sit, where to sit. Who should we bug," he mused. Getting hit in the arm got his attention and he shrugged, shoving a rib between his lips before strutting off after her and plopping down in a seat before she could and patting his lap. Nearly choking on the bone while he laughed he pulled out the chair next to him for her and went to eating and drinking.

Sana Rouen

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)
Interacting With: James

"Yeah, go ahead," she said to James before she went back to eating. Sana was knowing for eating quickly but it looked like she was on a mission to shovel it away as quickly as possible before high tailing it out there. Her eyes staying on the door the entire time as she chewed her food.

"Well Mr. James. I must say this is brilliant food this evening," Miss Sally commented lightly as she placed her fork down and wiped her hands on her napkin.

"Yes, very good. Even if it is American," Lyon said before laughing deeply. He liked to pick at people about being American these days. Sana glanced over towards him out of the corner of her eyes and shot him a look. Lyon sighed. "Sorry," he said before looking over at James and winking. Sana was no longer a duchess in the making, that was for sure, but Lyon still treated her like one from time to time. When she got "that look" it really kicked in. Yet it was one of the reasons when he saw her with Richard it made his skin crawl.

"So what's the damn deal with the new woman?" Sana finally asked. She knew better than to ask Richard about Zoie, so he sure as hell wasn't going to ask about Thana. Miss Sally cocked a brow as she picked up her glass and took a drink.

Gavin Comfort

Location: Two miles west of Newnan, in the snow.
Interacting With: Ravi

"Cause you Brits are located closer to the Nazi's than the great state of Texas!" Gavin guffawed. "Tell ya what, next time you start it and I'll be your bitch," he said before giving Ravi a wink and wrapping his arm around his best bud shoulder.

Then he got back to the song. "Look, it's time to face the music. Bye bye! Don't slam the door! This is the last duet. Last chance you're gonna get, no more a harmony for you and me!!! This is the last duet I'll ever doing!"

The two must have been a sight. Gavin was traipsing through three feet of snow, cowboy hat on, a shot gun under one arm, a Brit under the other, and belting out the last duet with the body of a walker being left in the distance as they made their way towards the sound they had heard earlier. Gavin, was having a blast. He loved doing stupid shit like this. Sure there were walkers out there but even if there hadn't been snow he probably would still be singing. Sure it wasn't the brightest thing in the world but Gavin would be damned if he stopped having fun because of a few dead walking around trying to make them an all you could eat Golden Coral Buffet.

Ciel

Location: Rec Center -> Infirmary

Ciel lΓ²oked almost relieved as Froggy ushered him out, glad to have an excuse to get out of the busy, crowded environment. He didn't say anything to the doctor as they made their way out of the Rec center; Ciel was always a little shy around Froogy, who he sort of revered in a way. Froggy was a large part of why Ciel was still alive, to say the very least.

Either way, it was probably best that Ciel stop by the Infirmary. He'd been running back and forth most of the day, what with the wedding and all, so his breathing had become increasingly irregular, On top of that, he was barely awake and in no state to function properly in a social setting. So for the moment he just quietly trailed after the doctor, trying not to get too lost in his own thoughts. It wasnt really a secret that he'd been struggling with paranoia, and his thoughts tended to get a bit surreal when he was this low on sleep.

Jack Hudson

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

Had his mind been a bit more stable and focused, rather than spinning in a thousand directions at once, he might have noticed as Ash left arm in arm with Thana. He might have made some sort of comment to Tatiana, a knowing grin on his face. Instead, he was entirely focused on his wife and the news that she had shared with him. It boggled the mind, to say the very least. Nodding, he kept his arms around her, holding her in there.

"Guess you'll want to take it easy and all," Jack commented. "You know, I'm one hell of a dancah--I can fill in, do some chicken dances. Get people pumped and all." He grinned slightly at her.

He was cordial and polite with Meg, as always. Grinning and nodding and thanking her at all the right places. But his mind was still having little spasms at the news. As Tatiana leaned in and whispered her question, his eyes widened slightly. He hadn't even begun to think of that yet. Nodding, he whispered back a reply to her quickly, softly enough that no one else could hear. Pulling away, he was grinning as he put an arm around his wife again, blushing slightly as he recalled Meg was there.

"So, Meg, how you doin'? Enjoyin' yourself?"

Beatrice Decker

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

Beatrice honestly hadn't expected Tiffany to do anything else, as the woman excused herself and went over to help Ray. She tapped her fingers lightly on the table for a moment, looking forward to changing out of the dress when she got home, and having some space to herself. She understood the intentions behind a wedding--but she just wasn't a big fan of romance. A parody on a gameshow would have left her feeling largely the same way, if that event occurred instead in Newnan.

Watching the people over at the food table, she noticed the irritatingly sweet girl, Niesha, fixing up plates for the two of them. It baffled her how people so kind and naive had survived this far. They never made it long on the streets of Justice, but somehow, they had survived four years of walkers. Perhaps Newnan had made them soft--it was the only explanation that she could think of. A fair deal of people seemed to have sprung into action to help the crippled man, while simultaneously holding back chuckles.

She noticed Tiffany putting an arm around him, and she got up from her own seat, pulling out a chair for Ray, to make things easier once they got over there. It was a small gesture, but a gesture nonetheless.

Chloe Ridgeway

Location: The Rec Center (Building 7)

As Ryan patted his lap and began to snicker, pulling a chair out for her, Chloe made the face. It was the face associated with little kids who were told they had to eat their vegetables, high schoolers who had to take another standardized test, and those who found out they won the pageant by accident and thus would lose their crown. She very purposefully kept her eyes away from Ryan's lap, knowing too damn well what he was implying. It wasn't that he just wasn't her type--he was just so incredibly persistent.

"I'd need to be blackout drunk for that to happen," Chloe said, her tone not clear whether it was a joke or a warning. Sitting next to him, she sat her plate down on the table, and took another swig of her drink. More people seemed to be coming and going, and she wished she had some sort of idea when Riley was going to go on next, so that way she could watch, make her farewells, and go home. At that moment, locking herself away in her room and writing sounded like a good time.

Munching on her food, she closed her eyes for a moment, savoring the taste. James had really outdone himself. She tried her best to savor it, rather than shoveling it in at the speed of light like her unwitting male friend, who seemed to pretend to be her boyfriend, did. "After Riley sings a few more, I think I'll bounce." She was dying to find out the information Ryan had hinted at earlier--something overheard, relating to their roommate, Dick.

But for now, they'd have to find a way to pass the time--beyond snarky remarks of no substance. A few basic questions to poke Ryan with came to mind, but most of them would open up a discussion best held away from the rest of Newnan. People tended to get jumpy the more they were reminded that the old government had put lengthy prison sentences on their heads. Chloe was supposed to be serving twelve years in maximum security herself.

"So, Ryan," she paused, waiting to get his attention. "What's the weirdest thing that happened while you were in the joint?" She figured the man'd have a hilarious story to tell. He usually did.

Ravi Chakrabarti

Location: Two miles west of Newnan, in the snow.

Ravi snorted slightly at the explanation, but there wasn't much point in protesting it. Nothing either man said to the other would cause them to abandon their patriotism. It was part of the reason Ravi still carried his green card on him--that, and an ironic fear of being deported the minute a stable government was restored. He was pretty certain that the bureaucracy would do something to fuck with him, if ever reestablished.

Plus, he looked damn fine in that photograph. His beard had been on point. Thinking back to it, he straightened out his beard once more, continuing to sign along with Gavin.

"Never do with. Never never never never never do with you~!" Ravi sang, doing the disco hands as he went. When they reached the close of the sign, he took a slight bow, chuckling a bit as he did so. "So, O Wise Navigator, how much longer will this forced march be? I'm not sure we have enough duets left to past the time, given that that was the last duet..." From the shit-eating grin on his face, the Brit was incredibly please with that bit of wordplay.

"Are we heading to Father Christmas' place up North?" Ravi teased. "Or will we stop before we reach it?"

Kristina Smith

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Kristina looked up at Niesha's comment and couldn't help but smirk and playfully nudged Niesha's side. "Hey i'm not that corrupting." Kris said sarcastically as she watched Niesha helping Ray and checking to make sure that he was alright. Which he seemed pretty fine to her, probably hurt his pride falling in front of everyone and making a little laughing stalk of the community. She gave Tiffany a friendly nod as well as Ryan she couldn't help but laugh slightly at the man's story of Schrodinger slipping and falling on some ice in the middle of the street. She certainly would have loved to see that or a video of that but sadly there weren't any kind of video cameras that anyone managed to get their hands on a video of the orange tabby trying to get away from the ice.

Once Ray seemed to be alright and was escorted back towards his seat, Kristina then started to grab some food onto her plate she looked over at Niesha for a moment. While she started to get food onto a clean plate for Ray, she did feel bad for the guy, but it was also slightly hilarious along with Ryan's story. Kris then decided to follow along with her friend towards the table where Tiffany, Ray and Beatrice were sitting at. "Do you want to sit here or somewhere else?" Kristina asked Niesha looking over at her friend, she didn't mind where she sat as long as she did get to eat with Niesha. Kris looked over at the door as she noticed Thana and Ashton both leaving the reception behind probably for the night.

Raymond Mendoza

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Ray grabbed his crutch as he looked over at Ryan as he recalled something that he had seen yesterday with Schrodinger, though it was embarrassing to fall on his ass in front of pretty much everyone that was in the rec center. "I'd like to have seen that, next time get it on video that would be even more hilarious." Ray said jokingly, as Niesha came over to check if he was alright he always did hate having to be checked constantly if he was alright. However Niesha was a good friend, one of the few people who helped him during his first days in Newnan. "I'm fine really." Ray said as Tiffany came over to help him, he looked at her and gave her a smile and nod.

"I'm fine, its just my pride was hurt." Ray said, luckily it wasn't another pitfall like the one that had caused him to lose his leg, he slowly made his way back towards the table and looked over at Beatrice and gave her a slight smile and nod. "Thanks." Ray said as he went over and sat down in the seat letting out a slight sigh. Niesha, and Kris came over with a plate of food for him at times it did feel like he was being babied, but he knew that they all meant well.

"Thanks you two." Ray gave both Niesha and Kris a friendly smile as he leaned back slightly looking over as he watched Thana and Ashton as the two of them started to leave the reception. He then grabbed his fork and started to quickly dig into his food looking over at Beatrice. "Also thanks for saving my spot." He told her.

Meghna Kumar

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

Meg smiled brightly as Tatiana went over and gave her a hug which she eagerly returned, she was just really happy to see her closest friend happy, along with Jack. "Don't forget you helped with the planning to." Meghna said brightly as she watched Thana and Ashton leaving the Rec Center. "Maybe I should gave gone for a wedding planner instead." Meg said as she looked around the room, still very satisfied with everything that was set up. Everything was so perfect and went so smoothly despite the undead just outside of the walls, she turned her attention back towards Tatiana and Jack as she watched the two of them whispering something to one another.

It was something private, and she didn't want to budge or pester them about what they were talking about unless they wanted to actually tell her. It was something between the newlyweds after all anyway, Meg turned her attention towards jack as he asked her how she was doing. "I'm doing pretty well, thanks." Meg gave them a soft smile and then looked over at the stage for a moment then over towards Jack and Tati. "So when will you two be doing the first dance of the evening?" She asked them.

Amelia Payne

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

β€œYou're welcome.” Amelia said to Ray as he took his crutch from her. She was glad he seemed rather unhurt from this event. Well maybe unhurt physically who knew if he wasn't at least uncomfortable at having been seen like that, but she was not going to say anything more. Ray was a good person and this bad luck was just that – bad luck. She noted Kristina asking him if he was fine so it should be okey. She just smiled and took a step back to give Ray his space, before turning back to Riley.

β€œMaybe just a little...” Was the reply Amelia gave Riley after she gave Ray's crutch back to him. As of late Amelia had a rather bad time feeling secure on the streets. Maybe it was the winter or the fact nothing major had happened in a while. It was just that everything seemed so much gloomier in the winter and the snow while nice to look at didn't help matters any.

With that done, she turned to grab her plate. She was hungry and wanted to put some decent food in her belly before having to go home later. Her... cold... home. Personal room heating wasn't something really on the table so her room was cold not as much as outside, but still pretty much so. Thus even now she could think about the moment she returns to her place and burrow herself under the blankets and clothing and other things she threw to keep her warm during the winter nights.

β€œShould we return to our seats?” Amelia asked Riley, after throwing a glance in the direction where they sat earlier to confirm they were still empty.” After we eat, we could head and give our congratulations to the newlyweds and welcome the new person.” She said with a smile, noting that the crowds around those were dispersing as most were now focusing on their meals.

Black James(!)

Location: Building 7 (Rec Center)

"Why, thank you, ma'am. Thank all of y'all indeed." said James after getting permission to join the trio of Lyon, Sally, and Sana. As promised, the Newnan Agriculture Lead stepped over the back of the nearest chair and settled into its seat, heavily setting his plate in front of him. He accepted the compliment about his food from Miss Sally with a smile.

"Aw, I don't know 'about brilliant, Miss Sally," he started, showing off a big, toothy grin. "but it sure do taste good..." Good sarcasm is difficult to distinguish from serious comment, leaving listeners baffled if performed masterfully. James was curious as to whether anyone was going to figure him out, or just peg him as a rural dumbass. Eh, it didn't matter so much to him anyway. Those who knew him were firmly aware that he was a competent Lead and damn good shot, and while many things, he was not stupid. Nonetheless, he kept up his facade of rural dumbassery and set into his plate of nifty foodstuffs. He started with the sweet potato drop biscuits. James did have a thing for sweet potatoes.

Lyon's comment didn't go unnoticed, either. "Naw, man. This ain't just 'Murican. This here's Southern, baby." He caught the short apology and wink, but shook his head with an ambivalent look on his face. He was pretty sure that the older guy was kidding, and even if he wasn't, it's not like what he said was something that would bother him too much right then. "Don't you worry none. Glad you like, an' there's plenty more where that came from."

But it was Sana's question that actually got James to slow down his assault upon his glade of foodstuffs. She wanted to know what the "damned deal" was with Newnan's latest guest. "You know, I ain't sure how much I should be spillin'. I mean, some stuff is kinda personal, needs to be said by her. You know, if she's comfortable talkin' 'bout it. But I'll tell you what's common knowledge here, Miss Sana..."

James used the small buildup of suspense to scarf down the rest of his yam biscuit and continued, "I was a friend of her family, back Before. Knowed her and her sister, Zoie - same Zoie used to be the Second here, before she... before she passed a few months back. Ain't nobody else knew she had a sister that looked just like her, and folks loved her here. Most folks, anyway. And some more'n others. Cap'n Ash called everybody that knew Zoie together and told them what's what so they don't have some big freakout."

"Yeah, I think that about 'splains it, you know, less you got some pecific questions." James poised over his plate with his fork. Even if anyone at the table had further queries, the spry blackneck was going to tear into his food as he answered anyway.

Ash & Thana

Location: Building A (Ash's House)

Thana sat there listening to Ash's explanation of what exactly was wrong with Newnan, which there seemed to be plenty but none of it really caused her to raise a brow or even look away from her food as she ate while he spoke. In this day and age with the way they world had collapsed it wasn't surprising that there was a hodgepodge of people here that some of them just were not the most pleasant type. She figured that the man that had rushed up to her when was introduced to the community, Richard, was one of them. Not that she knew for sure but that was always the type of guy that her sister had been attracted to in the past. The way he stormed off and the crashing she heard plus the witnessing of the destruction of the CD player out the window basically confirmed that much in her mind.

Granted she really hadn't had to deal with those types a lot since everything went to hell, being around military folk, even if from different backgrounds gave everyone a common thread outside of just survival to hold onto. Theft was an issue that needed to be dealt with before it got out of hand. Especially in a place like this where it seemed that people were well taken care of. There was no theft for survival here. It was just dumb. Now the outside threat, that again didn't surprise her. People always wanted what they didn't have and the strong always prayed on the weak. The only thing she could figure was that they hadn't attacked in a while because they were not being able to do enough damage to be able to move in and take over. That was a just a guess since she had no idea to their motives.

It really seemed rather cut and dry to her with what was wrong with the community and nothing stood out. Nothing stood out to answer her question either. Yet her real question wasn't what was wrong with the place, she just had hoped it would give her an answer. Since it didn't she figured she might as well ask. Lowering her fork she chewed her food in thought before swallowing, turning slightly to face Ash and shrugged a bit. "I know you said I didn't need to ask but I'm gonna be crossin' a personal line with the next, so permission to speak freely sir?"

"Seems the conversation's about to get interesting." Ash quietly polished off another choice bit of warm, smoky meat and set his plate down on the coffee table in front of him. He wiped his hands on a cloth napkin, then leaned back to look Thana in the eyes. "Proceed."

Thana thought for a moment before speaking, there was no real way to proceed without making it awkward at this point. She had noticed several things since she arrived about the leader of Newnan. The main thing was anytime he seemed to start enjoying himself this look would come over him and he would stop himself. She was curious at this point and since the door was open she decided to step right through. "Why don't you let yourself just enjoy a moment?" she asked bluntly.

Ash arched an eyebrow. That was not at all anything remotely like what he expected his guest to ask. To answer such an inquiry accurately, he would have to either possess a great amount of personal introspection, or a talent for self-psychoanalysis, neither of which he was really known for. Well, perhaps a touch of introspection, otherwise it was very possible that his cheese would have completely slipped off his cracker a long time ago. Go ahead, Captain. Tell her you hear voices because of your crushing guilt and think you might be going insane. That will make a good impression. That was odd. He hadn't had that clear of a message passed along from whatever corner of his subconscious it originated in a long time, now. Maybe it was the sudden spike of stress that came with thinking directly about it. Luckily, all he showed outwardly (he hoped) was a moment of thought.

"Hell of a question, Ma'am. I'm afraid I don't have a simple answer. Responsibility and caution, I suppose. I never asked to be in charge, but here I am, responsible for the lives of every man, woman, and child that live within these walls. After a while, the line between discipline and self-denial gets pretty thin. There's probably a deeper reason. Couldn't say, exactly." It wasn't untrue. He had considered saying something about the losses he had suffered on a personal level; the people that had died around him, loved ones lost, but that happened to everyone, he was sure. If you were still alive, in his philosophy, you were a widow or an orphan somehow. And you had to do some of the most horrifyingly brutal or indifferent things to survive. Ash was not special in this regard. "Why do you ask?"

"Well for one I was wonderin' if you were always this stiff around ever'one or if it was just me." Slipping her plate over to the table she covered it for now. She didn't want to take in too much too quickly. Not after an extended period of time on MRE's and rations. Leaning back she tucked her feet beneath her and looked over towards Ash. " And two... It's concernin' that's why," she stated rather flatly as she draped an arm over the back of the couch and looked him over slowly from head to toe. "We're military folk. I don't know about you but I've seen senior officers in a place of responsibility break under the pressure. The worse the situation the more likely they are to break. Leave is an important thang', hell it's essential. Beggin' yer pardon Sir but when was the last time you had a day off? I mean an actual day off? Relaxed and just enjoyed readin' a book. Hell, gotten laid?" she asked rather nonchalantly. It hadn't crossed her mind that maybe she was speaking to a man that his sanity had slipped off it's cracker or that she could might just make him choke on his pork by asking.

As Thana asked her most recent series of questions, Ash's head slowly tilted to the side, like a well-meaning German Shepherd that wasn't quite sure what it's human handler was trying to tell him. In truth, he understood every word. The subject matter was a little unexpected, a quality that he was steadily coming to believe was going to equate with any future discussion he might have with the woman. Unsure as to whether Thana was being serious in her blunt insouciance, or if this was some test of character. Perhaps she was living up to her earlier assessment, and this was part of her personal "application process" for him.

If she was going to ask questions of an immensely personal nature with nonchalance, the least Ash could do is respond honestly with his trademark stoicism. "Alright." He thought for a moment, trying to honestly remember the last instances of the scenarios Thana asked about. "I'm a little formal with people when I first meet them. It usually takes me a while to relax around new people, and even then I hold most at arm's length. I have very few close friends. The fact that you're in my house right now is fairly unprecedented." First one down. Moving on, "The last time I can remember having the entire day off was a little over a year ago. I was the Second here at the time, and I spent most of it... Well, a little over a year ago. Most of what I read are reports and overviews handed to me by our Leads. I cannot recall the last time I sat down with a book. Thing is, I like reading. Been meaning to do more of it. I have taken little breaks, every so often. Evenings after particularly stressful days, you can sometimes find me in the back of my truck loosening up with some distillation or another. Sometimes people join me if they see the light burning. I'm told I even have a personality, then." He looked Thana over, to see if there was any change in expression or posture before he continued. "As long as we're being honest with each other here, ma'am, the last time I shared my bed with anyone, it was also around a year ago." His face told the story that he had his reasons, but his eyes also showed pangs of regret. Deep down, Ash did desperately want to be close to someone, despite the gnawing guilt and the fear of loss brought about by personal experience. It was silly. Irrational, even. But there it was.

Thana's expression didn't change as he spoke, taking in what he was saying and processing it. Thana wasn't a physiologist and didn't really read people. That was more along of how her sisters mind worked. Thana was a recruiter and a scientist. She took the information presented and came to logical conclusions. "You do realize that as this town's commander it is more important for you than anyone to relax don't ya? And not just an evenin' drinkin'. Yous said you were ACoE, you should be buildin' bridges, not just standin' on the edge." Her voice was as unbiased as ever, just words delivered as if she was informing someone of the latest recruiting report. Shaking her head a bit she took a sip of the peach drink that had been brought back from the reception before looking back over to him in thought.

After a moment of silence, a long what may have been an awkward silence, she finally spoke. Her eyes and voice dropping their usual tone and were replaced with a dash of compassion, and some genuine concern. "Ash," she began, it was the first time she had called him by his first name, "it's okay for you to be happy. You just need to give yourself permission." Leaning forward a bit she rested the palm of her hands on the couch between them and the slightest of smirks came to her lips. "Or are ya waitin' for a senior officer to?"

Maybe it really was that simple. But Ash giving himself permission to be happy, to let down his guard, when seemingly everyone who gets remotely close to him dies? If he let down his vigilance for even a day, and something (else) horrible happened to the anyone under his care, it would be a another ballbat to his psyche. Doubly so if it happened to anyone he even began to care about. The clear solution - the kneejerk reaction - was to keep from getting close to people and maintain discipline at all times. Thinking about it openly, the subconscious but totally situationally reinforced decision to do so seemed just a touch unhealthy, now that it was pointed out to him. Still, though it might be simple, it was most assuredly not so easy.

Ash took a sizeable pull from the flask of peach spirits and set it back on the coffee table. It suddenly hit him: She had used his first name just then. Not Captain, not Sir. It seemed strange, the first syllable of his proper name formed on her lips, but comforting somehow. Another thing he didn't expect from her this evening. "No, I haven't been waiting for permission from a senior officer, ma'am." his voice was a little quieter now, "Doesn't mean I'd turn it down, though."

Sighing slightly Thana had to wonder if anyone had taken the time to actually speak to the man or if they just listened and waited for what that days orders were. Shaking her head she let her feet fall over the side of the couch and slipped next to him. Resting a light hand on his shoulder she squeezed gently. "Captain, permission granted to let yourself enjoy a moment and be happy," she said in a firm but gentle voice before removing her touch.

Looking over towards the fire, it crackling gently really being the only sound in the room besides their conversation. "If you aren't goin' to let yourself live, you might as well be outside them walls just survivin'."

Gentle human contact was something to which Ash was unaccustomed. The heat from her hand upon his shoulder remained for a while after she removed it, like an echo or a memory. "I did just that for a long time, survived. Always on the move. Kept my people alive, no matter what. But sometimes, no matter the precaution, there's always that moment when something goes wrong. I've seen that moment happen too many times. No matter if we're in here or out there, Lady Luck eventually turns on you. I would love to be able to live and be happy. But much like a Ringbearer I read about some time ago, I'm afraid I do not know the way."

Giving it some consideration, Ash decided that this was easily the longest and most unusual entrance interview he had given, ever. It was also the first time since the Outbreak that anyone had asked about how he felt. He was damned close to an actual emotion, if he was willing to admit it to himself.

Resting her elbows on her thighs, Thana rubbed her hands together slowly as she watched the flickering flames in the fire and a slight chuckle came from her lips. "That's life. No matter what ever'one we get close to dies, ever'one we don't get close to does as well. Eventually we are the ones that go. Was like that b'fore this outbreak, if the dead ever stop walkin' it'll be like that long after," Thana mused out loud. To her, it was just simple truth. It was no reason to close ones self off to the world. Everyone died anyways, so might as well enjoy them while they were there; least that way they live on in some way.

Shrugging to herself she glanced over towards Ash out of the corner of her eyes and gave him a slight nudge with her shoulder against his, a grin breaking on her lips as she did. "Well, I've made deader things grow in shit, let's see if I can coax a little smile. Come on, I promise ain't gonna hurt, much."

Yeah, like that was going to work. Just because she sat close, used his name sparingly, and made physical contact while throwing non-fatalistic philosophy at him. But that smile was infectious. Despite himself, he began to smile, too. It started slowly at first, held back by his own inhibitions. But he made conscious effort to batter them back down and actually let himself feel something. It wasn't a forced smile, nor a cheshire grin. Ash nudged her back with his shoulder like a coquettish youth, mumbling, "...this is all your fault..." His face actually showed playfulness and warmth that he hadn't allowed himself in a long while, and likely would not be showing outside of his own home for another long while. But he allowed himself a tiny concession of emotion. Ash found that, regardless of the short time that he'd known Thana, she was able to bring something positive out of him. Ash genuinely liked the woman.

Tiffany Lyle

Building 7 (Rec Center)

Tiffany managed to get Ray over into a chair that was already pulled out (Beatrice's doing, she thought). After he sat down she patted his good knee. It could have been a lot worse. She mentally chastised herself for not offering to help him, but she also felt guilty for doing so. His was a delicate situation. On the one hand, he couldn't do a lot of things and did need help, but on the other hand, he was also quite capable and she didn't want to overstep her boundaries. She was glad it was just a little tumble that hurt only his pride. "I'm glad it's just your pride that's hurt. We can heal that later. Thank you, everyone." She said to those who were helping Ray.

She saw Kris come over with food. Her stomach growled itself. Ray was handled and he had food in front of him. "Please, come join us. There's room for you. I'm going to go get myself some food now." She made her way over and helped herself to a plate. She was starving and there were few instances anymore where she could feed herself like this. It was like she was saying to Beatrice, it was important to take time to enjoy yourself and not get caught up in the daily struggle. After she piled her food on her plate she made her way over to her table again, careful to watch her own footing on the apparent slippery floor.

Niesha

Location:Building Seven (rec)

Niesha was use to knee-jerk reactions about people saying they were fine, when something was wrong, yet she had known Raymond long enough, and had treated him, to know when he was lying his ass off about such things and when he wasn't. Still, Niesha assured herself that Ray wasn't about to slip and hurt himself, setting the plate down so that it wouldn't fall off the table, glad to see him settled, she looked to Tiffany and gave her a small smile, "Well, we have to help each other, don't we? Its only human" She gave a small shrug, before saying to Raymond, "Now, if you're in pain, we can see to that after the festivities, no point suffering if you don't have to" She said to him, giving him a smile, "As for your pride, well, we all take a fall with Pride every now and then. Still, I think its safe to say that your pride isn't truly injured. You survived a bite, Ray. i doubt you could ever lose face in this world now. You survived, and that's not something everyone that gets bitten can say" She said softly, "We all fall, Ray. But you got up, and that's the important thing" She reached over to pat him on the shoulder, once more assuring herself that he hadn't sustained any injuries in the fall.

Some people might call her paranoid, Niesha however had learned that you could never be too careful, even if there were things that were just beyond your control. It was better to be a little paranoid, then wonder if you could have done more later, turning yourself inside out with guilt and fear. She looked to Kristina, hesitating a moment, "Ah" Kristina did need to eat, and Niesha was going to make sure she did, even if she had to sit on her. Yet she didn't know where they could sit, and looked about the room, just as Tiffany said they could sit with them. She glanced back over, and gave her a grateful smile, "Thank you, Tiffany" She said, claiming a seat.

Dr. Victor Bonheur

Location: Building 1: Infirmary

The journey from the reception to the infirmary was uneventful, maybe a slight loss of balance on a wet and slightly iced over area of pathway but nothing that was a cause for concern, well except for when he glanced over his shoulder and saw Bryn being escorted by one of their members of the security team. That was peculiar. Bryn caught Victor's eye and for just a moment he was sure he saw a look of shame cross her usually blank features. She turned her gaze from his and he could see the red colouring her cheeks as she was led further down the street. He watched her walking with her escort, standing at the door to the main building, his hand ushering Ciel inside before him gently as he did so. He wondered why Bryn would have reacted that way but couldn't figure it out. He shelved it in his mind for now and would be sure to ask about it in the morning or when someone came by the infirmary that had been present during the reception before her departure. He half wished he hadn't left as quickly as he had done now, in order to know what had happened.

Deciding now was not the time for such thoughts, Victor went inside and led Ciel along the way to the infirmary. Smiling warmly to Medic as he entered the infirmary with his small patient in tow, Victor greeted him happily once again. "Ah Medic, merci beaucoup for your assistance tonight. I do believe it is your turn to enjoy the party. I owe you one for allowing me time away from here to celebrate with my family." As Medic walked past, Victor gave him his usual pat on his shoulder and bid him farewell and enjoy. Victor could feel that Ciel was still acclimatising to his presence and he thought he'd give the poor boy a moment to himself while he checked on little Anna. He was pleased with how silently she was sleeping, the odd little cough here or there but nothing as badly as it had been that morning. It was a minor weight off his shoulders and he smiled softly to himself.

Turning from Anna's bedside, Victor smiled towards Ciel and made his way back over to where he had left him in the infirmary when they had walked inside. "I see you're having trouble breathing again. Hopefully the next run team can find you some more medication soon." He gave Ciel the gentlest of pats on his shoulders, his large hands almost enveloped Ciel's entire shoulders, and then turned to see if Neisha had left any of her helpful home remedies in the infirmary for him to offer to Ciel. From what he could last recall though, Niesha had attempted to take the drink out to Ciel directly rather than leaving any here. Oh well. Victor decided to take a stethoscope and check on Ciel's breathing to ensure he had not developed any kind of infection in his lungs or chest since his last checkup.

Victor breathed on the circular disc of the scope and then rubbed it vigorously on his shirt sleeve in an attempt to warm it up some. "Excuse me if it is cold, I promise I've done what I can to take the edge off. Please, raise the back of your shirt and take a deep breath in so that I can ensure that you have not caught whatever little bug poor Anna currently has. At least sleep is helping her to heal faster." He gave a warm smile to Ciel to reassure him and then his eyes glanced over the poor boy's tired features. "How are you sleeping lately Ciel?" There was genuine concern and care in his voice as he spoke, it wasn't chastising him, it was simply a doctor caring for his patient.

Ciel

Location: Infirmary

Ciel did as told, taking in a ragged, hoarse breath which caught in his chest as soon as the metal stethoscope touched his skin. He almost didn't answer the question the doctor asked him, taking a few seconds to think of an answer that didn't sound self-destructive. "...Not great." He replied vaguely, not really wanting to go into all the details. The last thing he wanted was to get upset and start crying or anything. He felt helpless enough as it was.

That said, he really did appreciate Froggy taking the time to help him out. As repeatedly mentioned, Ciel kind of admired the doctor, though he often tried not to act like it. In general, he was more comfortable around the medical crew as he spent a good deal of time with them. Though he was a bit worried now that he knew there was some sort of respiratory illness going around --he was bad enough as it was--, he was better off for being somewhere relatively quiet. He said nothing more, silently eying the doctor through his foggy vision.
