Well, whoever left this place was very thorough, that was for sure!
MacKinnon whistled a cheery little tune as she vaulted over windows or kicked open doors, tip-tapping away at the floors and walls with her pickaxe as she navigated through whichever buildings caught her attention. It mustn’t have been so long ago that the village was abandoned by its residents, and yet, almost everything that remained was shattered or rotten through. Even the few cellars that she poked her head into were barren! There was certainly some kind of mystery present here, for the more astute individual to peel away at, but for the treasure hunter?
“Rahahahaha!” It was basically her catchphrase. At least when she was dealing with things that didn't shine like gold or glitter like gems or were obviously magical and ancient. “Clay jug, GET!”
She raised the blue jug towards the hole in the ceiling, where a pie-sized piece of sky could be seen and marvelled at how the muted blue mixed together almost seamlessly. This had to be worth at least a cool double hundred, if she could find the right person to scam sell to! But for now, alas, a jug may be better to drink from than to sell, especially when the chances of a merchant coming through here were minimal. For now, MacKinnon set aside her dreams of striking it rich and stepped out of the building, mentally marking the place off. In the distance, she could still hear others hemming and hawing in one place, and she grinned in response. The quickest moles got the juiciest worms, and the swiftest diggers got first pick of the loot!
Her broken compass spun on her fingertip, while she looked up towards the sky and counted the number of clouds. Simultaneously, she stuck out her tongue, feeling the direction of the wind upon her unskinned flesh, before she closed her eyes and ranked which bruise on her body ached the most in the moment. Finally, all those inconsequential bits of information came together and, with a flash of insight, MacKinnon turned on her heel and marched off once more!
Northwesterly it was!
MacKinnon's probably the only one who'd appreciate his performances from the get-go.

@Qia I dunno how Bella would find out, but it'd be interesting if they collaborated together to put the screws into Vincent a bit, seeing that Matthias now has both the shipments and the receipts implicating the Thorned Roses. Would have to puzzle that out a bit though.
@Yankee I'll hit you up after the collab with Est, because Matthias wants to get at least some money outta that exchange first, which would obviously change how much he wants to pay.
@evierose While obviously it'd make more sense for Pops to connect and align with that freaky child abductor (if they don't go up in arms with each other about terrible first impressions and all), Matthias may be reaching out to her this round about collaborating to improve the Poor Districts nearby, either immediately or in the future. Do it for the children n all. He'd mostly want to secure a position that'd allow him to begin expanding eastward eventually though kekeke.

When someone else attacks you, you don't need to spend any Wealth or Personnel to fight back. They're risking the cost of invasion and you're risking your ownership of the district.
I don't think it needs to be more realistic. I personally like Herald's idea that there's Personnel permanently allocated to like, construction and infrastructure projects or aid programs within the district you've upgraded.
And I've been implying in all my collabs that there was a big city-wide conflict in the recent past that necessitated everyone burning their resources to stay afloat kekek.
