Current It actually refers to a specific lung disease that likely doesn’t exist and isn’t used except as a party trick :)

Also, don’t forget to browse the interest checks yourself. If you’re posting an interest check and not actively looking, consider how many other people are probably doing the same.

@ampersand You can bump your interest check to get it back at the top of the list (just don’t do it excessively, or with more than two checks- see the guidelines pinned at the top).

the role player

  • I like most genres.
  • But I really love superheroes, apparently.
  • I'm big on character driven stories and all the twists and turns that come from that.
  • I tend towards darker, grittier stories, or lighter stories with liberal amounts of dark humour. There is little you can do to throw me off.
  • I enjoy writing explicit scenes, but they are not an essential ingredient. I'm here for the story first and foremost.
  • I will try my best to give you what I get in terms of post length.
  • I reuse my characters, settings, and plot points with different people sometimes. You are welcome to do the same.
  • In the words of a GM I admire, your spot at the table's secure. Whenever you're up to participating, grab your seat and jump in. (If I love the story we've been writing I don't care how long ago it was since you last posted- if you're ready to get back into it I'll be waiting!)
  • Check out my 1x1 interest check if you want to see what I'm specifically looking to role play right now. That being said, pitch away if you think I might like it.

@Baphomini You are correct that it is not limited specifically to Fae folklore. The flavour is more modern urban fantasy, so you could absolutely be a selkie.
It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents—except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies)—

but here is not the face of London that you know.

If one knows where to look, one can find a rather different world hiding behind the façade, full of magic and mystery. Where better to find magic and mystery but the Piccadilly Circus? There, underneath the twinkling neon lights that lace the sky, you must turn and walk the wrong way down Regent Street. Those who know how to look will find an alleyway that has no worldly name, for it does not exist on this mortal plane. Do not be fooled; you are not between the two brick buildings you walked past just a moment ago. (In fact, look up into the sky- where you should see the stars. There is only more brick.)

There are scattered shacks and storefronts here in the In-Between; our story begins in the bright yellow fairy tale cottage that lies at the end of the road.

Madame Broussard is a witch, and she runs a respectable establishment with the assistance of the fae sisters Maeve, Morgan, and Merlina. There are impossibly many rooms for the size of the cottage; the first has artifacts and curiosities, the second shelves beyond shelves of books, the third containing everything you might need to cast a spell. There are guest rooms in the back for whoever may need it.

While at work in the first room, Maeve was killed. Madame Broussard walked in to find a fae from another family working a spell to help cover it up; he has been dealt with, but the body tells her that he was not the only one involved.

Everyone in the shop at the time has been called to a back room. You will be seated, as if in a coffee shop.

“Things like this do not happen in my shop… not without the proper punishment. And until that happens, you’re all stuck here.”

Madame Broussard does not play games.

Participation

Read the rules before continuing.

This RP is a 7-player adaption of Mafia, except the flavor of killers and townsfolks have been flipped around. If you've never played this game before, you can learn more on this wiki.

This roleplay will be player-driven; you influence what happens, so communicate frequently. The game runs between three to six (OOC) weeks, and one IC post is required from each player per week.

After seven players have signed up, certain players at random receive secret roles. These roles are in the next section. Your role must remain a secret and will only be revealed if you die. Do not PM other participants (active or defeated).

Mechanics

Gameplay is divided in 2 phases:

The game starts in "Day" phase, which is the time for interaction. Throughout this phase, there will be an ongoing vote for who is believed to be the killer. At the end of Waking Phase, the character with more than half of all votes (ie. 4 votes out of 7 active players, 3 out of 5, etc.) will be lynched and their role revealed. Players can choose to abstain from voting and change or cancel their votes within the allotted time. Once both murderers are caught, the game is over and those remaining win. Otherwise, we continue into the next phase.

"Night" phase means silence. No IC posts are allowed during this phase. The GM will message everyone to determine their course of action for that night. This is the time for the antagonists to kill, and also for special roles to use their abilities. Roles will be given through PMs and results will only be returned once all actions are locked in.

Vote tally and the result of each phase will be tracked in OOC. Please specify your Daytime vote in IC (with hider), or OOC.

@Baphomini Sorry I missed this! I’m going to use the same character sheets as the two linked examples, so you can use that as a template.

For everyone: I’m pushing rollout of the full story to tomorrow, but the short version is that this is going to be set in modern day London. This murder involves the Fae, so you are welcome to play some sort of supernatural humanoid, but are not required to do so (it will not impact gameplay either way).

Adri had her clipboard tucked under her arm, the other working its way out of her sweatshirt, revealing a white dress shirt tucked in at the waist. Looking the role was half the part when it came to getting information, and this was one of those times where being done up would make all the difference. She paused, half out of the thick fabric, to catch the camera in her arms. They curled inwards, pulling the weight into her chest, for a moment forgetting that no one here was normal and wondering how he had managed to toss it over with such ease.

She looked to the camera and then back at him as she gently placed it on the ground to pull her other arm out of its sleeve. “You touched the body before you took photos?!”

Adri sounded downright scandalized. Really, it was mainly to be dramatic, and she would never have commented if it had been someone else; Al was the only other person here who would know anything about standard operating procedures, and nothing the Sunday Group did was really standard. It was not at all unusual to discover that scenes couldn’t be photographed. There was the slightest bit of actual horror, only because she liked to work in an orderly fashion. She had long ago learned to shrug her shoulders and let it go; that didn’t lessen her confusion as to how anyone else got anything done.

“I’ll grab a few photos and we can head over, sound good?” she asked, looking over to Blythe as she folded her sleeves up. She looked more like Adri’s mom than Adri did; Adri had turned out like a darker version of her father, but with features just vaguely exotic enough to make people question where she was from.

Now, where did you come from? she mused to herself as she started snapping photos of the corpse, one at this angle, one at that angle, whipping out a pair of gloves to turn the body get snaps of its front. You could tell where the face was, of course, but the black substance obscured and distorted everything.

Down the alley this way. Down the alley that way. From the opposite wall to the body. From the body to the opposite wall. She was efficient but thorough with her choices. A few more and she decided she had enough.

“Okay, I’m ready whenever you are.”
So it looks like we have the minimum of seven, so the game will be going ahead! @Xandrya @Zapdos @Alix @Baphomini @AntiRpRP @ParadoxShark @hanzo

If anyone else is interested, please chime in so I can let you know once the game thread is up; there is no maximum number of players.

I have a scenario in mind and aim to have a thread up by Friday. (It should be up before then, but my next few days may be hectic.)
If we can get two more people interested, the game is a go!
Charynrae was watchful as always, careful to keep her face obscured as her eyes swept the way in front of them. She let Amal guide her; it was unnerving and comforting all at once, to have someone assisting her. Much less a human.

Once they were well inside the town walls she chanced lowering her hood. There were definitely a few second looks, and she could hear murmured words about drow, but no one seemed alarmed. They might not like her, but this was not the type of town where she would be driven out. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught an elf sneering at her, but she ignored it.

She pointed towards the wall, at one of the entities carved right in. “Black Dagger. Inn, tavern, bath house,” she read off the sign. “I would say we start there.” It made sense to keep them all together, at least to her, especially up here.

“Gamble? Not often,” she said. “As you can imagine, it can get… bloody, where I am from, and given its unpredictability, most avoid it. You said you were reminded of home. Where is home for you?”
