The Sarcogan people are a proud and old race, honor runs just as deep as their history. These partially nomadic and peaceful people prefer to keep out of sight and observe new things. Preferring to let a threat move unimpeded through their territory then outright attacked. The one thing that keeps the Sarcogan people together is their shared respect of sacred trees called Spirit Trees.
These trees hold within them their direct line to their ancestors for once every year the trees bear fruit. This fruit is special, the large orange fruit hangs from the tree. The size of a large cannon ball it is filled with a dark red liquid, its taste is strange as it invokes feelings of nostalgia without giving a taste. Once a Pearson drinks the liquid they quickly fall asleep for about a half hour to an hour. It is different from person to person. During this time however, one will find themselves in a realm quite like their own but filled with a purple hue.
This realm is referred to the Sarcogan as the Spirit Realm. Here you will be approached by your ancestors, some you will recognize others you will not, some will be your kin others will not, but they will all be of your race. Here you can ask for wisdom, answers to mysteries, locations of long forgotten places and artifacts, or simply to just talk and settle whatever guilt you may feel. Whether or not you get the answers you are looking for is unknown, just depends on the person and the question.
Sarcogan’s prize these trees over all else, always making permanent settlements around them. Only striking to action against an enemy if these trees are threatened, this is one of the few instances that can unite many different clans and tribes almost immediately. The trees can be planted by war priests and shamans, where ever one is planted it is sure to attract the attention of any Sarcogan in the area as it is considered a friendly or safe area.
Sarcogan of all races can hide extremely well within their natural habitat. The normal green and brown colored Sarcogan generally have the average height and weight of a human, Black Sarcogan are uncommon and much larger and stronger, and there are also smaller Sarcogan, their skin can change colors but roughly are the size of a human child. All of these species can see in the dark, swim very well, hold their breath for extended periods of time, and have natural claws with hard scales for protection. The Sarcogan have also evolved to have a layer of fat under their skin to help insulate them through the cold winter days. They also have a natural way with animals, allowing them to heard smaller animals and befriend larger ones.
Tribal life within the community can be hard sometimes, but with their slightly omnivorous eating habits normally life can be a bit easier within the tribe. Normally war priests and shamans tend to the holy trees, with shamans staying in the village and with the added duties of healer and advisor to the chiefs. The war priests are the ones that strike out into the frontier and watch for new happenings. These priests decided if things are dangerous or could be befriended and are basically diplomats to new tribes and now these new people from across the mountains.
The normal day to day life of these people revolves around fishing, hunting, farming, and foraging. All Sarcogan grow up learning how to do all of these things regardless of their strengths or weaknesses. After they reach adult hood the elders sit down with them and discuss where they should go from there. Most choose hunting or fishing, both leave in parties for weeks at a time before coming home with whatever they could find. The farmers stay in or around the village to farm a few native plants and animals while also learning how to build and maintain the village.
