Victor had nothing else to do but listen and follow his mage. Salem was still quick to jump to conclusions, but it was understandable given the circumstances of this test. Saying this place was strange would be an understatement. It seemed he was at least right about the maze the path they were on felt stable under their feet and with every step he still couldn’t sense others.
“Be calm and breath, nothing is as it seems.” He responded in his usual calm and monotone fashion. “I do not smell anyone other than you and the Princess would not let other students vandalize or change her test.” He paused for a moment to think, “We search for what is missing. Something subtle but I can only guess wouldn’t belong. Could even be something to do with the figurine we were given on the last task.”
“Remember the symbolism, I would expect if we chose the boar we would be in for a fight. Majesty could possibly be a puzzle. Yet somehow, I do believe we are in for a challenge.” A slight breeze carrying a cold wind caught his attention for just a moment. The count could only hope that the dawn was still far away but couldn’t quite know for sure. “Place the lantern and let’s see what we are up against."
Time for a swim > A short Rest /// Adventuring day 5 // Evening / Location - The Shimmering Pool
The water was cold, the sounds of the fight over head slowly drifted away. Ardur opened his eyes as he swam down. The water was a blur of blue with flashing lights floating overhead. He was getting tired, he had already received several hits, his mana was low, and he had an inkling in his mind that Steve was in trouble. This fight was definitely not going to be easy.
Continuing to swim towards the shore the sword twisted itself around him and spoke once more. All he could do in return was nod. Now his chest was starting to feel like it was about to explode, he hadn’t gotten that much air when he dove into the water. Bursting through the surface for air he was greeted by a bright flash, sizzle, and then pain. The system did not hesitate to notify him that his health was low now. At least he got a new skill, a new skill that didn’t mean a dam thing if he died.
Quickly the High pixie cast Minor Healing I on himself and with several deep breaths dove back under the water. This time however he did not swim to shore. Instead he closed his eyes and let the cold stillness of the water envelop him and his mind. Attempting to slow his heart rate to conserve his oxygen while also attempting to use the same techniques he had used in acquiring Meditation I to pull the ambient mana in the water into himself.
This he would try for a little while. Going up for air only two or three times and sinking back down each time. He was confident in the swords ability to protect him from any of the wisps that would be lured down. Ardur was well aware that he could not attempt this forever and after getting air the fourth time he would attempt to swim under the water towards the shore and back to the group.

Salem was silent as they continued to move, speaking only for direction. Victor was well aware that the answer he gave him wasn’t the best but at the very least it would shut him up about it until after this test was done. Soon the duo came to a stop and the location of what was their next test. The count listened closely to the words Salem spoke and took a few minutes to think.
“Hmm, ‘to whom walks amidst Time’s tangled web, look close at that which walks removed.’ Definitely talking about us and something that neither of us walk with or live with.” Another pause as he continued to think, “Three keys to enlightenment of our kind-Might, Majesty, and Mastery-and yet not all three command them. Pick the light that guides their way and keep it safe on your way to have your diligence paid in kind. Stay to the right as it shines.” Repeating it aloud again. “One to choose, stay to the right? A maze perhaps. Or only when it shines, three keys to enlightenment, three choices paid in kind. Well which ever we choose we will be tested. But might doesn’t solve everything even if we are good at it.” Again another pause. "boar for strength, Ocean Wave for majesty, and Flower for mastery."
“Majesty is lacking with both of us but still there and neither of us have mastered anything. The last part is just in case we are running low on time. I haven’t felt the temperature change dramatically yet and it will get colder before the dawn. Choose Mastery and let’s take the path on the right. I’m sure it will be fun.” He answered with a smile, these tests are taxing but a challenge he wasn’t expecting.
Dodge, Dive, Duck, Dip, and Dodge > Time for a swim /// Adventuring day 5 // Evening / Location - The Shimmering Pool
This engagement was taking far too long, this war of attrition where the core definitely had more resources. This sword wasn’t absorbing the energy as quickly as he had hoped and now he was surrounded. “This sucks, I hate this game of tag.” He thought, his wings where tired and his stamina was starting to get lower. “This new life is hard.”
Changing up the game was what he needed to do, power wasn’t going to get them out of this strategy might. Or just pure randomness. For now Ardur chose to be random. Seeing the crackling energy of the enemies around him with the sword behind him. He was still going forward and the dam undead where still keeping up.
Surrounded on almost all sides with little left to go. One way he hadn’t tried yet, down. With a deep breath he dropped, dropped until he was under water and kept going. He swam down for a few more seconds before swimming back towards the shore. Honestly he had no idea what new dangers where in here or if the Wisps would attempt to follow him down into the swords domain in the first place. Getting to shore now was likely his best bet, at least his wings could rest now.

Mirik was having fun with all these new people, his feelings portrayed more from his wagging tail then his stoic exterior. Two new people then began to approach the crowd as his friend was explaining that the man before him was not in charge but someone called dust wallow. Before he could ask any questions a big green girl human walked up to him and began inspecting him.
The green human was a bit strange but wasn’t bashful at all, even her words were strange and hard for him to pick up on. The other smaller human seemed to keep her distance and just looked at him. At least he was getting used to the staring. “Why Hoooman Green?” he asked while equally examining the other women.
He almost didn’t hear what his friend Rob was saying until he looked over towards him and the other girl that had approached. He was being introduced again he could tell by the gestures or at least that is what he hopped. “Me Mirik, come t-talk weath hoomans.” He seemed to pause again, this being normal to him now with using their language, “Mirik Sarcogan, Mirik help Roooob from smoll slith. Roob Afraid feeeeline.”
Almost on cue with realizing he was talking to the leader by how Robb was talking to her the large lizard quickly pulled his pack around and began digging through it again before pulling something out that was wrapped carefully in some sort of cloth. Mirik was being incredibly carful with it and approached the mayor, once he was within just a few more steps he knelt down to her level and slowly unwrapped it.
What he held was what looked like a small vial made out of some sort of hallowed out crystal or crude glass. Sealed within by a wooden cork was a dark purple and pink liquid. It almost seemed to shimmer in the sunlight, clearly it was special by how carefully he was carrying it. “Gift for leeeeader, this from sacred Spirit treeee. Enough for two. This make sleeppp then see…..” he was trying to think of a way to explain but couldn’t quite find the words. “Make see… mmmmm… See Spirit of past you. talk get answer to questions.” Mirik would stay there and wait for her to accept, giving a slight defensive hiss to anyone else that would try to grab it.

The swing through the lead undead was satisfying, carrying his momentum through to aid in his flying speed. The mob was definitely following him now. He could almost feel the sheer volume of incoming fire at him. These things really didn’t like any of them.
The only thing he could think to do to avoid the shots coming in at him was to dart and spin to the left and right while still going forward. He was trying to copy how the planes in the old war movies moved when they were in dog fights. To add to this he was still holding his bone club. While twirling and twisting he attempted to keep the bone covering his weak spots and to deflect incoming fire.
Ardur did his best to keep all course corrections on target and on point all to get to his lake friend. “Incoming.” He called out to her for her to ready herself. Maybe she might even be able to absorb some of the magic shots that where bound to hit the water.

The walls crept in closer and closer, Salem’s voice seemed to be getting further and further away. At the very least he got his answer he didn’t hesitate to repeat the name given to him to the girl sitting before him. “Alice Spellman.” His voice was quiet but filled with kindness, something one wouldn’t expect to use on something they thought was just an illusion.
He knew he was stalling, his reluctance to even speak her name to his mage was troubling. How she could affect him even now was troubling. He was sure it was because he hadn’t truly dealt with her passing. “Her-“ stopping for a moment before just yelling out her name, “Sarah Rift.” His hand clenched on the table to the point it nearly splintered the wood. This practical will definitely be something he has never dealt with and seemed intent on facing the things that haunted his dreams.
A Deal? > Time to strike /// Adventuring day 5 // Evening / Location - The Shimmering Pool
Ardur paused for a moment as he watched the mana orb trail off into the distance, “Well that’s a handy thing to know.” He thought as undine claimed a wisp that drew to near the water’s surface. The voice spoke again telling him that he still lacked the strength, mana, and skill required to wield the sword, “at least i know you can make a pact with me... what ever that means.”
Glancing over towards the group that was just about to cross the pool he formulated a plan. “Ok im going to go draw those flyers over the water as close as I can. I’ll leave the rest to you. If it doesn’t work I’ll try to drown them.”
A good enough plan, simple, dangerous, and exciting. With a smile on his face he flew towards the group of flyers. “Im going to distract those flanking then return for support.” He called out towards the rest of the party. With the bone club in hand he continued flying toward the enemies.
Aiming for one of the undead in the lead, Ardur swung the bone at them in a drive by attack then banked sharply to the right and down towards the pool. Hoping the rest of the monsters would follow as he attempted to drag them closely along the top of the pool and eventually in a circle. If he was able to he would attempt to strike some of them down into the water itself. He was well aware that this maneuver would use multiple physical skills at the same time. Like his strength, physical conditioning, and faster skills. This could also help out with some sort of agility skill as well if it existed.
