Roman made his way through the crowd, with his height and bulk it was easy enough for him to traverse the crowd and create a small break for his new friend to follow. He was heading to one of the smaller platforms near the arena’s edge, small refuges for the nobility to get a better view. The one he was heading to wasn’t too crowded compared to the others.

Barley picking up what the man said as they finally broke from the crowd to find a few seats unoccupied in the private section. “Apologies Sjan-dehk Cultural differences, I did not mean it as a slight.” Roman shrugged and glanced out at the arena. Sir Mathias and Prince Wulfric were clearly going at it. “You do look like a capable fighter personally I prefer private sparing or a small audience. This is to much of a show.

Looking back out to the field he could see Mathias striking fast, quick, and hard. The subtle and precise strategies both men were thinking with each parry and swing. It was a brilliant dance of blades between two well-trained individuals. Mathias was starting to push Wulfric, but the prince got the upper hand and exploited an opening with a precise strike that ended the match. A good show for both.

So, this Lady Adiyan is the one negotiating trade? Hmm well I know that manpower and resources can be hard to come by after any war especially a civil war, what is it that your people are looking to trade?” Returning his gaze to the crowd that was chanting Wulfric’s name, he could see the king in his sheltered spot trying to get the people excited.

Narrowing his eyes at the king for a moment he continued to speak with Sjan-dehk, “like I said my people are craftsmen, but we also assist the Varian kingdom with all sorts of trade to all sorts of people and places. Food, wine, metal kitchen ware, perfumes, medicine, spices, armor, weapons, statues, furniture. The list goes on just depends on what you want and where it’s going.

The announcer began again as the next fighters stepped up onto the arena, Mayet and someone named Reogh. “This one should be good; Mayet is an excellent fighter.” The smile returned to his face as he watched the princess, remembering for a moment the comment she made while they fought the bear. Her opponent had a strange attire, not one he recognized but clearly meant to keep themselves anonymous. With what he could see being a formal greeting he had seen and done only a few times himself on his travels to the southern continent the two separated and took their stances.

Mayet’s style preceded her, aggressive fast strikes that aimed to test and find an opponent’s weak spot. Much like what he would think would be akin to that of the powerful tiger. Reogh blocked and countered the others blows with a shower of sparks that the crowd cheered for. Clearly trying to use the momentum of the tigers strikes against her. A brief pause and change of stance and they were back at it again. The princess is almost always on the offensive with quick ferocious strikes with her opponent doing a fine job of keeping up with her.

Roman could only think that even he would have a hard time keeping up with Mayet’s strikes in a fight. Speed and size were always going to be a good counter to him, but this was something else. To see a trained and talented member of the Alidasht royalty go full force like this was definitely something to study, maybe asking her for a sparring session would be fun. Hell, a sparring session with either of them would be a good work out and learning experience, imagine both of them. Roman had to remind himself to keep his bloodlust down in public.

Glancing to the man next to him for a moment as the duo continued to fight, “these two don’t disappoint.

Roman listened and watched the man speak as they slowly moved closer to the arena. A civil war that didn’t seem like he was too happy about, fair it’s always heart breaking to fight others that could have been your brother in a different time. By the emphasis in his words and the way he walked Roman could tell this man either spent a great deal of his life working on a ship or being the captain of one. His sister was that way as well, never truly enjoying walking on the soil and earth always said that it didn’t feel like the ocean and hated that it didn’t roll like the waves.

He never was all that great at seamanship below deck but he could manage just fine above. Still, roman didn’t mind sailing but much preferred scaling mountains to riding storms. The information that he was indeed here for trade and being commanded by a high queen was good information.

Roman spoke up again as they were almost outside the stadium, the sounds of the crowd and the clashing of weapons already could be heard. “Perhaps you would like to set up trade agreements with my people as well? Could be interesting.” Roman continued walking through the entrance of the arena making little deviation on his way towards the registration table.

“Yes duels, I believe to submission I could be wrong. Anyone can sign up to participate so you will see several people from the common folk to nobles and sometimes royalty from any nation. You could sign up too if you like.” motioning to the sign up table.

“Hello, good sir I am Roman Ravenwood I am here to deliver the third, second, and first prizes for the tournament.” Smiling at the receptionist and some of the other event organizers who were clearly surprised to see him for one reason or another. “I have a domed brass round shield for third place.” The shield was reinforced with the designs and patterns common in the northern territories, for a normal person it would cover them from their shoulder to their hip. Handing the shield off to them and retrieving the claymore, “this two handed claymore for second place.” Pulling the 55 inch claymore free from its sheath to show off the blade for a moment. “And for first place a custom commission made by myself for one shield or bladed weapon.” Pulling out a small parchment from his shirt wrapped in a red band with the Ravenwood house seal on it.

T-Thank you for your contribution lord Ravenwood, will you be participating as well?” the receptionist asked excitedly.

No I’m just here to watch. Wasun would you like to sign up? If not the viewing seats are this way.” Motioning down a side entrance with a few others coming and going. Roman hoped he got the pronunciation on his name right.

Asim nodded to the team leader as she regarded him while he was eating his snack. The red head was attractive, fit, fierce, and smart with a deep career history to back up all her combat experience. A good choice for a good leader that new how to support her soldiers and execute missions to a T while being able to improvise and adapt to any given situation. If they weren’t coworkers he would be tempted to see if she was up for some fun but not now not in this situation. She had his respect though and not just the basic respect he gave everyone he met.

Washing down the dry cookie with a swig from his jug he smiled, “likewise ma’am, no need to worry about me eating you out of house and home I brought my food grower to make sure I was able to feed myself with my own lab grown food. If you like and have something you want me to specifically grow just let me know. The bank currently has everything from Red deer to mammoth if you really want to try it, any age or natural condition.” He was quite proud of that vat. A simple concept of lab grown meat to be more sustainable than normal ways, didn’t really taste all that different either. Just one of those side projects meant for the moon and mars colony missions that were still in the planning phase.

“I am looking forward to getting some samples under the microscope, this island is nice and I’d like to keep it that way. Its ok though no matter what my counterpart does I can fix, just imagine the trouble we could get into if we came up with something involving both our fields.”

“Copy. I’ll get those rods secured, Rose will alert you if there is a contamination issue.” Ogre moved to secure himself in the back of the vehicle. As chaos began to move out. Rose continued to generate and chose specific locations to secure the nuclear rods and the best approach to them. The others seemed fit to chat and he almost ignored them. His suit was changing up its current loaded munitions to smoke in the mortar launcher and an anti-tank missile in the rocket pod. It wouldn’t kill the mech if it got hit by it but if glitch wasn’t able to do his job it would piss it off enough to give him an out if he needed it.

@Awesomoman64@LadyAmber
“As long as it doesn’t get in the way of communication traffic I don’t mind. Would be nice to have that sort of thing in vacuum mighty quiet when that happens.” It was true after all it was unsettling to only be able to hear your breathing and heart rate in the dead silence that was vacuum, music would be nice. “Chaos get me close to those rods then dip out, don’t need you too close if the outer casing of those things get hit. It will be slow but I’ll get those rods secured and out of the line of fire and call you back around to pick them up.” Holding his gun at the ready in one hand he prepared to quickly depart the vehicle once he was close enough.

Roman watched the man grin and almost puff out his chest at the mention of his weapons. Obviously he took great pride in the condition of his weapons and now that he could get a good look at the man before him he looked to him to be the combination of ship captain and trader. The introduction the man gave also concreated Roma’s earlier thought of him being a foreigner. Rare but not unheard of, this was the capitol after all. The name of his country did not ring any bells perhaps he was from the Far East across the sea.

It would seem the man was still getting used to the common dialect but was coping rather well. Roman was well aware of what that felt like, having learned their own language first then the common tongue was difficult to work around at times but now even his accent barley showed. Returning the man’s bow with one of his own, at least he still had manners or at least was familiar with the customs of this land.

“Lord Roman Ravenwood, Heir to the Ravenwood name of the Northern Territories of Varian and Master Smith of all things metal, wooden, leather, and stone.” Straightening with a toothy grin and a welcoming attitude. “I am headed to the dueling competition to deliver these weapons that were made by the Ravenwood master Smiths. I’m actually running a little late but you are welcome to join me as my guest.” He moved his hand to motion towards the athletic arena. “But I would win in the fight, yet I am not here to flaunt my strength just the generosity and craftsmanship of our industry.”

“Come friend” he spoke with a smile continuing on his way to the arena and motioning for the man to join him. “Tell me of your home? I have only heard of the commonwealth in passing stories from our traders, what brings you all the way out here?” Roman had many questions, information was key in figuring out if this man’s or his nation’s intentions were hostile or a possible ally to win over to Varian.

Sounds from the blacksmith were more prevalent than usual, the swinging of more than a few hammers against metal filled the air. Not as many as he thought joined up for the free lessons, a few locals he met in passing on the streets, the two young lads that were tasked with taking care of his things during his stay were there as he did ask them to, and a few odd servants from some of the other nobility were there as well. He was certain they were told to come to this to try and gleam some secrets from his forging techniques for their house as most were a little apprehensive to try in the beginning. Even the two boys were a little unsure when they first arrived, by the way they talked to him or interacted with him Roman could only assume they were abused in some way in their past for getting something wrong.

Roman just offered an encouraging hand, explaining every swing in detail, every color, every spark, every common injury, and even the right heat to keep the forge. It took him the better part of half an hour before they really started to put some effort into their work, correcting where needed but in a way where they would find the correct path on their own. This was the way he was taught, how his elders lead him through the process of working with your hands and figuring out the problem on your own with limited guidance. Even while forging in his leather apron with sweat dripping down him he did not forget about his friend.

Hoping that Sadie didn’t get caught up with something and would make her very original energetic entrance into the shop. That thought made him think back to a past memory one of sadness and anger. A night he remembered one of the few times he almost decided to toss his title and position aside, the night that he was informed of Sadie’s ‘husband’ and what he did. Erik had to physically stop him from disappearing into the night knowing all too well that the lord only had slaughter on his mind. That man was lucky that Erik knows when and when not to listen to his orders, in fact it’s likely the only reason that man was still alive.

Roman grew up learning everything about the royal family as was part of his training, Sadie was and has always been his favorite out of the three royal children. At times seeing her as a younger sister helping guide her and her invention ideas carefully. Pulling himself from those memories as the end of the first lesson drew to an end.

Thank you everyone for coming, you all did an amazing job for your first day.” Pausing and bringing his hands together with a smile. “Now I will be doing these classes here for the duration of my stay and I’ll keep a schedule posted out front on class times and dates. If you all preserver and complete these lessons you should have enough skill to start your own career here as an apprentice or even set up your own shop.” Pulling off his apron and folding it to set it down next to him. “for those of you who show the best work and put in all your effort to learn and work will be invited to come back to Emberstone with me to train with the other masters, you will be paid during your stay and can bring along your family as well. The only stipulation is that everyone works.” Finishing with a nod to everyone and letting the forge start to cool, “I will see you all here tomorrow, enjoy your day.

Time: 1445 Hrs.

With that the class was over and they began to walk out, some with small injuries, others a bit sore, and all of them leaving with a much better idea and respect for the trade. Most had finished a rough outline of their blade, it will be honed further, tempered, sharpened, than given a handle and a pouch for it. Effectively teaching them a little bit of leather working and wood working in the process. Roman on the other hand needed to clean himself and get ready for the swordsmanship competition. Deciding to cool off on the way to his storage, Roman walked back to the warehouse shirtless and a bit dirty gathering some interesting looks from the people enjoying their day.

It didn’t take to long for the giant to wash up and apply some perfume smelling of flowers, it was enough to hold him over for the rest of the day. He had already sent a missive ahead of schedule to the organizers of the dueling competition. This time he decided to change it up a little from the archery contest as that one was more of a random act. No this time he grabbed a claymore and a domed round shield with a bronze covering and wood reinforcement. Both were crafted with care for combat efficiency and to look good as well, both were sturdy, well balanced, and resilient for their given purpose. But these two were for second and third place, this time first place would get a free commission from him for one weapon or shield.

He honestly preferred the flat round shields most used by his people but this one was not bad either, again both items were commissioned for other people who could not pay the bill for them. With the shield on his arm and the sword strapped to his shoulder Roman set out once again towards the sword competition.

It was hard not to miss the athletic arena, once you cleared the corner of the caste walls it was easy to see. What wasn’t easy for him to see either blocked by the shield or he just got lost in thought was the man dressed in blue that he had to sidestep to miss running into almost tripping himself while doing so.

“My apologies friend I didn’t see you there.” Roman stopped and took a better look at the person before him. They looked and wore things that was refreshing to see in the sea of people who at times almost looked the same. This one seemed average in height and build but his clothes and look were foreign to the giant. Yet it was familiar, from the look of the man to how he was dressed and his weapons he was sure he heard stories of some far off land with strange speaking people.

He took another moment to look over the man, “those are some beautiful weapons you have there, where are you from?” Roman already knew he was running a bit late but figured he could stop to talk for a moment to this interesting individual.

Asim /Ogre/ Badir

// New faces New places //

The ferry ride over to the New Zealand Island was actually quite nice, being well aware that his bulk would likely be too much for a helicopter that was not built for heavy lifting. Most of his armor and equipment was sent out to this place before he even left, this way it wouldn’t create too much of a lapse in research time. Making and testing biologically engineered fungi to help restore polluted biomes and take those that do well to modify them further for use on the ongoing mars missions was his current project.

The cool air was expected and refreshing compared to the temperatures of the desert lab he had been working in before this one. Still, he had a job to do and his combat specialty came first on his to do list. Speaking of Asim made a quick comment to his virtual assistant as the front of his new home for the foreseeable future came into view. “Rose make sure you scan the area here and come up with an effective plan to mitigate any damage to this natural area if a leak in the lab should occur.” After a short moment of silence a feminine voice with an Irish accent spoke into the communication device in his left ear, “Its done boss.

“Thank you rose.” He spoke as he crossed the entry way into the building. His bionic eye displayed the information that was telling him how to get to his room as assigned in the data packet. A few faces already seemed to be up and about as the giant made his way to his room to drop off his personal belongings.

Setting everything down and placing things roughly in where they needed to go and heading for the rec room, grabbing an orange and white pouch roughly the size of a book and his 5 gallon jug of water. Asim was wearing his workout clothes with the intent on getting some lifting in before or after the impending debrief. The muscle bound behemoth was wearing grey sweatpants, slip on running shoes, and a yellow tank top that said “Average Joe’s” he was clean shaven and bald, clearly showing his plethora of scars across his left arm and the side of his face.

The cybernetic implants were not concealed and clearly showed multiple implants above and below the skin of his left arm spreading into his chest and sporadically over the left side of his face, the iris of his left eye shifted in color. Smiling at the duo in the room, one man that was sipping on a glass of whiskey and another that clearly made some interesting modifications to the fridge. “Gentleman, I am Asim Badir Callsign Ogre. It’s a pleasure to meet the both of you.”

Finding a seat on an unoccupied love seat that by the way it creaked and popped when he sat down was not meant for his weight as it protested. Opening the small pouch that clearly read “emergency food ration bars 2400 calories” a simple cookie that tasted of apples and honey. Taking chunks and eating the dry survival food casually with the occasional gulp of water from his jug, hefting the 5 gallon jug like anyone would normally use a standard sized water bottle.

/// Back to work ///

The ride over was quick, bumpy, and dusty. The land barren even for a desert as the lake dried up a few years ago taking the bulk of the local civilian population with it. Ogre remained quiet while the others spoke and drove for the majority of the way. He was not idle though, mentally going over the stream of environmental data that his sensors and Rose were feeding him. Heavy metals in the soil and a slight tinge of radiation in the dust from possibly cold war nuclear tests or other irresponsible handling of nuclear materials.

The sudden stop of the vehicles and there various orders had him stepping out of the vehicle taking a knee to provide cover if necessary and pull rear guard while the others approached the observation point. “Rose, sweep the area for contaminants and biological life signs, just not enough to trigger any sensors that might be out here.” His HUD lit up with numbers and data as he scanned their area, more of the same as he picked up on the way in. only difference was a few UXO’s at or just under the surface of the area from conflicts long passed.

“Rose, update the teams map to display the local UXO’s and make a note to drop some of the new fungi seeders in the area to see how well they do in this environment.” With that scan done Ogre went over his own gear and system checks, cycling through all of his armors components from a subtle flair of his shields, the turning of the mortar and missile rounds on his back, and cycling the action a few times on his own weapon everything came up green for him. “Ogre is set.” He called over the radio. catching what glitch said about some kind of catch phrase Ogre just couldn't help himself to be a little unprofessional before the actual start of the mission, "Hey Glitch, how about hack the planet?" he had a slight laugh to himself at the old movie reference while pointing at him with his left hand like a finger gun.

While waiting for the next step in the plan he turned from his security position to assist the other team mates with checking their gear, looking over to his fellow heavy that was built a bit taller than him which was expected as he was built more out than up. “Ready to go to work Frigga? Should be a good day.” Keeping up with his smile that could be heard in his words.
