More like, what, 20XX? Since I think MHA takes place a bit into the future? Either way it's 2020 in MHA time and that doesn't have specific Exams neither :v
@Kautalya Yeah, if you don't mind, I'd prefer if "attraction" was replaced, since (at least in the US, where I'm from) attraction quite literally means romantic or sexual feelings of some sort or another. At least that's how it's commonly used, and I'd rather not have that misconception happen.
And the exam is pretty neutral. The Headmasters don't really determine rank, it's based solely on how many points a person has. Might put the onus more on the student if they end up being lower or higher, but hey, isn't that kind of the point here? :v
@Karisma Aella is Accepted, though I would like a bit of a clarification on her Quirk. Do the suds she makes pressurize the air, or is it dependent on how she, like, moves herself? Do bigger bubbles make bigger 'pops', and smaller ones pop smaller? How does she form the bubbles, like, is there a specific motion or something?
@Kautalya Honestly a bit iffy on the "Quirk works better on people attracted to her" facet due to her being 14 since I don't want that to happen on anyone not the same age as her, y'know? Other than that, what sorta uses would the Quirk have? Just so I can understand like, what ya plan to do with it and all that. :b
@ShwiggityShwah Hiroki is Accepted too! Feel free to change the App if you want.
You all can put your characters in the Tab, I'll make a 0th post with the list of 'em all later today.
@AlternateMan Whoa, those are really good! If Sunha is all finished, you can move him over, too!
@AlternateMan Looks good so far! Only thing is the Quirk name - not a big problem, but they're generally more straight-forward than fanciful. Oh, and minimum amount of points is 5 (well, technically 0, but that's up to you). Not super important to put down right now, though.
@King Cosmos Ooh, I like her. Out of curiosity, do you have a broader idea for what direction to take her Quirk in? I can see several good uses for it with the proper training - having metal-based weapons or armor to conduct the heat, or somehow making bursts of steam, for example. Regardless, she's Accepted! Welcome aboard, 42.
@SilverPaw Love Kian. I'm imagining his hero costume as a fancy protective turtleneck, though, is that what you were going for? :b He's Accepted of course. Two down, eight to go!
@Majoras End You could PM me if you want to has out your idea! Or just put it in and see what happens!
@ShwiggityShwah Very interesting. Would Turbine let him, well, jet around similar to Engine? Or is it more for its wind power? Also you don't have to put it in the format I've put it, so long as all the pieces of my example App are there. But it's up to you!
@Ryik Right, probably didn't explain it so well. I was thinking the exam be similar to the one from MHA - all students get put in a secluded arena and go around doing their thing. The Ribbons would've been as important as the bots with some types worth less and some worth more than the combatants, and they would be placed semi-randomly.
I'll say the least amount of points one could get is 5, and I do want to avoid having several characters end up with 0 points, so Rank 49 should have at least 5 points, rank 48 at least 10, and so on. And it depends on just how "exam-ending" you mean.
@King Cosmos Yup! I'm planning on making a discord for this.
Also rip me I forgot to put an appearance slot in the app
PREMISE In the wake of Japanese hero All Might's final fight, tensions across the world rise, and wannabe heroes rush to get into their Hero School of choice. You are one such student - selected to join the prestigious New Heights Academy out of nearly half a million other applicants! You would consider yourself lucky...
If the first day of school hadn't gone so terribly for you.
See, while you definitely got in, you still had to take the academy's Entrance Exam. Instead of being the deciding factor of who gets accepted, the Headmasters use the exam to gauge each new student's aptitude and rank them compared to one another. Long story short, you placed rock bottom among the rankings, and everybody knows.
The infamous "Bottom 10".
In the face of adversity and being social outcasts, the Bottom 10 unite with one simple goal: to improve themselves, raise in the rankings, and shove it in the faces of every other student who says they should stay down!
I mean, what else could go wrong for them? SETTING
New Heights Academy!
Despite being only a decade old, New Heights is a very prominent Hero School. It's one of the few schools to take in students on an international level, was founded by the widely known Atéline twins, and resides on its own private island just North-West of Hawaii. New Heights is known for being very selective in its application process; anyone with a Quirk can apply, but a mere 50 are hand-picked to attend. Though there are rumors that it's actually completely random who they choose to accept...
The academy has dorms for its students, and also invites their immediate family/guardians to come live on the island with them. Being far from mainland and major cities means it's less likely that the school and anyone on the island are collateral damage for villain attacks (which is definitely a bigger concern nowadays).
New Heights is also well-known for its so-called Entrance Exam, but for more controversial reasons. Since the students that are selected to attend are already selected, New Heights uses the exam to test the attendees on their grasp on their Quirk, thinking under pressure, and critical thinking. There are robots worth different points (why fix what isn't broke?) and also special ribbons that have point values on them, to help even the field for non-combative Quirks. The students are ranked, from 50 to 1, based on how they did during the exam. Rankings are public knowledge and are liable to change throughout their time in the academy - this is supposed to foster competitive spirit and healthy rivalries among the different classes, but in practice it produces a very steep social ladder, with those at the top put on a pedestal and those at the bottom barely considered worthy to be there.
But even so, New Heights is praised for its efficiency, and students keep coming year after year. CHARACTER STUFF
• Keep the tone. I'm not trying to dictate how your characters are, but I would like a middle-ground. Nothing too serious and nothing too goofy. Of course a character who leans more one way than the other is fine! • First come, first serve. With 50 rankings, and Rank 50 - 41 being the focal point, whoever claims a number gets it. Just be sure to double-check the thread before you post your character. • Higher ranks can be taken! Obviously, the premise revolves around the Bottom 10 students, but you can make a character that's in a higher ranking if you'd prefer. That said... • You're allowed two characters! However, if you do want two characters, they have to be separated, ie you can only have one in the Bottom Ten and one that isn't. • Embrace weirdness. This is more of a personal suggestion, but I would like to see characters that are creative or, well, weird. MHA is full of weird-looking people and bizarre Quirks, so don't be afraid to be a bit off-kilter with things!
You can structure this however you like and even reword it, but the general information that should be included is...
Name: Hero Name: Age: (Generally High School Freshman aged, 13 - 14, but it can stretch either direction with a good concept) Nationality: (New Heights accepts students from all over the world. Specifics can be put into History below) Rank: (What rank they have post-Exam, 50 - 41 for the Bottom Ten, or 40 - 1 otherwise) Appearance: Costume: Personality: Quirk: (Name here) Type: (Emitter, Mutant, Transformation) Effect: (What it does and what side-effects it has. Quirks usually have a limit or downside to them, especially with under-developed ones, so use your best judgement here!) History: (What their life was like before arriving at New Heights, why they applied to the school, and so on. Like UA students can be 'endorsed' and get a guaranteed spot instead of having to apply and be picked, but they still take the exam) Exam Report: (Since the RP starts once the Exam is done, here's where you explain just how they did and why! It works like this: three tiers of Robotic Combatants at different point values, and five types of ribbons. Robots beat / ribbons collected count, regardless of how. If they're in the Bottom 10, be sure to include a brief bit about what happened, be it their own fault or somebody else's.)
Thanks for the interest, everyone! Think I'll make the thread once one or two more people are interested.
For the record, I'm planning to a) let people make characters that aren't part of the Bottom 10 (y'know, for drama and such) and b) allow two characters per person, if they feel like it. Could change if people don't like those ideas.
