Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Okay I just really, really, really want to apologize for the delay. I'm actually having a bit of a hard time setting up this next bit, I'm not suuuuper familiar with GMing in sci-fi/militaristic settings and that's starting to hit me now.

I'm not trying to make excuses, this delay is pretty shameful on my part as GM, but I just want to let everyone know what's going on and that one way or another I am going to try and push something out to try and get this going and get over my personal failings here today.
"I..."

Fanilly trailed off. Was she taking this from the wrong angle? She did need to speak with the Mage's College, that was for certain. They were the ones who had apparently had the shard in the first place. But she'd never set foot in the College before. The idea of attempting to do so was rather daunting. But surely, surely, they would want to help locate such a dangerous artifact, especially when they'd possessed it in the first place, right?

On top of that, Veilena had clearly been willing to assist, given that her own plans to recover the shard had fallen through. Could she know what was going on?

"Ah, Sir Steffen, hello," she greeted the ingvarr knight, remembering herself, "I... hm. I... I'll have to arrange for meetings with the College and with Lady Veilena."

It only made sense. She'd been handling this from the wrong angle from the outset, hadn't she. But that wasn't all.

Sir Gerard had noted her other concern, after all.

"Sir Gerard is right, it's just just understanding what might be going on with the stolen shard," she added, "But stopping any other shards from being collected. If there's any other pieces of Angroron in Thaln, we can't let them fall into the enemy's hands. So... I want to try and find out where the others might be."

Ended up delaying a bit more than intended but both my update and the discord server(finally) will be up tomorrow.
It wasn't just the green-haired girl and the injured siblings. It was a lot of people. And some green figure Lily didn't understand, they were armored? But they weren't shaped like a person, nor like a monster created by the blight. She didn't get it at all, but right now she couldn't pay attention to that when so many things were happening.

The girl her age was at least no longer suffering from the poison, so she was happy she'd been able to help.

The Umbral Knight nodded at the boy's words.

"Raven Heralds..." they commented, "A grim name."

Lily found her eyes drifting towards the knight, who nodded. They knew what she wanted.

"She removed the poison from your sister's wounds," they explained, before shifting gears, "My oath is with her, and so I shall fight for you. Until you can receive further medical attention, move as far back into the chapel as you can."

Lily gripped at the hem of her skirt.

She could hear them outside. She could hear the door ripping off its hinges. It was frightening.

But she'd faced awful things. And she didn't want the little girl or her brother to get hurt any more then they already were.

So, she had to do something. Even if it most certainly meant she had to fight.

Her blue eyes turned to the Umbral Knight again, who nodded.

"Our enemies are certain not to be monsters created by the Blight," they said, "You should turn away."

Lily hesitated for a few moments, before slowly shaking her head.

Their enemies---

She didn't really know what this meant. But if she looked away, then she couldn't direct her spirits, her friends. She couldn't keep track of what was happening.

If she really wanted to help, she couldn't do it.

She couldn't look away.

"Very well," The Umbral Knight turned, tattered cape flowing behind them, "Not a single Raven Herald shall enter this place."

As Lily advanced closer to the doorway, she was able to allow the Umbral Knight to do so as well.

And as soon as they reached it---

The Knight sprang forth, reaching the fallen door where it had pinned a soldier to the ground, several others scattered about it, landing on it and slamming it down firmly on the enemy beneath. They were in dark armor, a dull purple, largely composed of leather and bearing wicked masks upon their faces.

The Knight perhaps considered that was a blessing, as the monstrous visage would distract Lily from the true nature of their enemy.

Their blade swung in an arc, an arm and a head severed in the very first moment before the Raven Heralds could even react.

Lily's hands clenched. Her heartbeat quickend. She'd seen blood before, but these enemies were different then those suffering from the Blight.

The body had yet to fall before the Umbral Knight twisted their frame, a diagnal slash hewing its way through the throat and chest of a second Raven Herald.

But their blade was stopped, at least for a moment, when it struck the shield of a third. Wood and steel...

It wouldn't be enough for her.

Lily was frightened. But she knew that the Umbral Knight's sword wasn't able to cut through something like that so easily.

Before the enemy could retaliate, the knight simply vanished, the red light of their spirit form returning to her side.

And in the very same instant, a great hammer raised.

Its wielder, in spite of her gray skin and crimson eyes, was still quite beautiful, wearing a nun's habit with a pair of feathered wings extending from her back.

Guardian Silva wordlessly brought the hammer crashing down, shattering the shieldbearer's arms, cracking the wooden shield in half, and crushing his chest cavity in a single blow.

She hadn't yet gotten used to it.

This warm sensation over her pale skin. The clear blue of the sky above, without a cloud in sight.

It felt like she had stepped into an entirely different world.

The clouds were gone.

The terrible rain had ended.

There was untainted, unblighted life all around.

She still hadn't been able to grasp it. To normalize this new world in her mind. It was so utterly unfamiliar, and so beautiful.

When she'd first set foot in the fields beyond the purified Land's End, for a few moments she had simply run through them. As tired as she had been, as much as her legs ached, she couldn't help herself.

When she couldn't anymore, she fell onto her back and lay there, staring up at the blue sky.

A blue sky.

She hadn't known it was supposed to be blue. Not really. She knew that the grey and dreary blighted sky of Land's End wasn't right, but she hadn't known what to expect of a sky that wasn't pouring down tainted rain.

She'd fallen asleep not long afterwards.

This was sometime later. She hadn't seen anyone else yet, but the Umbral Knight had told her there were people beyond Land's End, somewhere out there. And she trusted them.

She trusted all of the spirits. Her friends.

She trusted Fretia.

"Lily!"

It was the Umbral Knight's voice.

Lily's blue eyes widened in surprise as the armored figured appeared before her, sword drawn and at the ready. While her spirits could certainly manifest on their own, normally they awaited her to need them when it came to a fight.

So she couldn't help but be a little frightened, her heartbeat quickening, when the Umbral Knight appeared so suddenly on their own.

"Something isn't right, here!" they insisted, reaching back with their free hand to place it on her slight shoulder, "I think-"

A white light appeared beneath them. And in moments, it surrounded them.

Lily couldn't help but panic, trying to understand what was occurring. But, somehow, it didn't feel like an attack.

It felt like----

----a cry for help.

Lily clutched her hands to her chest.

This wasn't an unfamiliar place. Not really.

A chapel in ruins was hardly something she had never seen before. But there wasn't a hint of blight, or any sign of its purification, here. This wasn't the purged kingdom of Land's End.

It was somewhere different.

The Umbral Knight had long since picked up on her fear and confusion, their blade held ready.

"There's enemies outside. But I suspect some kind of barrier is in place, they can't get through, at least for the moment," they said, free hand still upon her small shoulder.

Her eyes had fallen elsewhere.

A young girl, perhaps around her age. She looked like she'd been hurt, though Lily couldn't tell exactly how from here. Beside her was a boy, who was older and looked like he was a little more stable. Not unharmed, but somewhat less immediately in danger.

The Umbral Knight followed her gaze.

"You want to help them, don't you?" they asked.

Lily nodded.

"Then you have nothing to fear, I'll keep you safe."

She didn't know how to heal injuries. But if there was something impure they were suffering from, then maybe---

Lily approached, the Umbral Knight by her side. She was a little nervous, being so close to people she had never met before, but she wanted to help them.

The boy was injured, but there was something inside the girl. She guessed it was poison. Had something hit her that was poisoned?

The Umbral Knight knelt with her, their voice gentle when they spoke.

"We're willing to help, but if there's anything you can tell us about what's going on," they began, addressing the still-conscious boy, "Then we'll be able to act all the more swiftly."

Lily concentrated, the blue gem hanging from her neck glowing as she raised her hand.

Compared to the Blight, whatever toxin was coursing through the girl's veins was much less invasive.

It vanished in moments.

So lost in her thoughts was Fanilly, that she hadn't realized Sir Fionn was approaching until he spoke.

"Ah, Hello, Sir Fionn."

Turning to face him fully, the Knight-Captain bobbed her head in greeting. The former mercenary had been in an irritable state ever since the conclusion of the battle at Cae Mayl, after the enemy who was behind the curse hounds and the abominations presumably also murdered the Golden Boar force's commander to prevent any information from being revealed.

But it seemed as if now he was at least somewhat more cheery. Fanilly was at least a little glad to see he was doing better, no matter what other thoughts distracted her.

She paused another moment before answering his question, when she noticed that Sir Gerard was approaching as well. For a moment it seemed as if he had some manner of business with Sir Fionn, but decided to put it off for now.

"And Sir Gerard," she nodded her head in greeting towards them as well. He'd been injured during the battle with the Golden Boars, but as far as she had understood it was nothing serious and the healers had already set him on a swift road to recovery.

There was no reason to behave in any manner below her station, no matter how frustrated she felt, so she quickly did her best to banish the look of irritation from her features and compose herself.

To be honest, she shouldn't have been spending her time out here like this. And there was no need to preoccupy her knights' time with their Captain's complaints.

"It's-"

And yet, she hesitated. It was her frustrations, yes, but it did matter to the good of Thaln's people...

Fanilly sighed.

"It's just, I... we didn't learn anything," she said, with a heavy sigh, "Aside from the vision of a white mask, we didn't find anything out. I don't know where to look next. I was going to go to the library to try and do some research on the potential locations of Angroron's shards, or what could be done with them, but I don't even know where to begin."

@Sanity43217: Oh god I'm so sorry I haven't gotten to this yet.

I'll give it another look-over and my verdict tomorrow. Sorry again!
"This is..."

The sensation almost made her feel ill long before the creature itself appeared. A growing knot in the bit of her stomach, her bombardment of the camp following.

But it was far from the worst that she'd ever felt, now, now matter how much it made her feel as if she was about to throw up.

Fio straightened, her blue eyes gleaming as the monstrous dragonkin slithered out of the trees. Its gaze conveyed every bit of the hatred that she felt radiating from it all the way to the core of her being.

There was no time to be distracted by fear. No time to panic. Whatever shock she felt had to be pushed to the side as quickly as possible, even if for a moment it felt as if her heart was about to jump from her throat.

First, as she swung her blade, she used a wordless spell to push her distance all the further. Just enough to put her out of range as quickly as she could.

But the beast had made a mistake, in one way in particular.

At least, provided its underside wasn't as well-armored as the rest of its body. If nothing else, this would be an unpleasant experience for it.

"Sura! A dozen blades! Release!"

They would not have particular strength or sturdiness behind them, but she had to form and launch them as swiftly impossible. Indeed, on her words, a dozen ghostly swords materialized in the air and just as swiftly sent themselves hurtling towards the underside of the draconic serpent's head as it came crashing down, rushing upwards to meet it just as it attempted to use its form to crush them.

Fio landed on her feet, skidding across the ground.

Her breathing was already heavy. Every second that passed made her heart beat even faster.

And yet---

"... Dame Elnith, Dame Lunalel, Cecil-" she addressed each of them in turn as she pointed her blade forward.

"Today is the day we kill a monster. Keep its attention as long as possible. Attack its flanks! Cecil, can you aim for the eyes?"

Her mind was already racing. She wasn't used to being placed in a direct position of command, so she was entirely going off of the observable shape of the monstrous dragonkin that had appeared before them.

It was without limbs, so its sides would be harder to defended. If it were to be blinded, it would struggle to continue its assault, and allow her a safer position as she bombarded it from a distance.

Already, she was pouring magical energy down her arm, preparing to create another volley the moment she had her next opening.

"Underground?"

Clear, viscous blood dribbled down Elizstrazia's chin as she leaned back, tilting her head. Underground, huh...

Her grin returned, her sharp teeth gleaming like polished steel.

"Then we'll need a nice quick path right to the bitch, huh?"

Scale demons were beautiful and refined. The greatest and most resplendent demons, at least as far as the maid herself was concerned. But there was one ability that made them stand even higher.

One power that she possessed that no-one else could ever reach.

She could see them. The existence of floor beneath her feet, not just in this moment, but the moment before and after. The uncountable instants between one second and the next.

The very flow of time itself.

"It's about time I showed you just what I can do, so get ready to stand back and weep!" she declared, raising one clawed foot. In that very instant, she reached out and grasped them. Elizstrazia pulled those instants together. She dragged them into one location, the imperceptible moments that existed apart from one another were now being forced to occur simultaneously.

It simply wasn't possible.

It wasn't possible for one object to exist in the exact same place and time in multiple instants. It was the same principle as shaking hands with your past self.

A localized paradox that reality could not reconcile.

"Time-"

The scale demon brought her foot slamming down.

"-Crush!"

Click.

The air itself warped and twisted inwards. No-not there air, but something impossible to comprehend. It was as if reality was twisting towards a single point, beneath Elizstrazia's foot.

Click.

Steadily, a high-pitched whine grew in volume from her position. As it grew, it deepened, an unnatural sound rippling its way across the ears of everyone present like a distorted roll of thunder.

Click.

The floor exploded.

It was not an explosion caused by any outpouring of heat and flames. It was not caused by any natural force at all. The rim of the hole that had been torn into it was perfectly circular, smooth, almost as if it had been cut by an impossibly sharp blade.

And yet it had been shattered to pieces, carving a path all the way down to the underground.
