Second Chance

"Well it looks like everyone seems...gathered?Willow put a finger to her chin. She scanned the room and could not believe the incompetence. Doubt came to her mind. These individuals were given a second chance yet they could not follow directions correctly. Some of them could not read the numbers on their tablets and match them along with others.

”If you had not found your partner yet, I apologize, but we cannot keep everyone waiting. Furthermore, you are responsible for damages to yourself and your tablet. This does go for any future consequences depending on your actions,” Willow raised her arms and lowered them during her speech. She ushered her feline-hybrid helper to come to her side. The feline girl stepped to her side as Willow whispered to her pointy ears.

The girl with feline traits nodded her head in agreement. She skipped over to a set of doors at the end of the hall. She opened them wide to reveal the path to the village. Willow smiled and threw her hands to the entrance. “The first village awaits your presence. Your new life is here and along with it follows your new decisions and mistakes. Will you relive your old lives or take advantage of this second chance? The choice is yours! Now go and live again!”

The path winded down to a village with wooden structures. The town was not promising in entertainment but did resemble a peaceful home. The center did have a message board with several notes nailed to it. These notes gave details about objectives and missions around the village. Some of the characters of interest or the villagers are in need of help and will offer money or other goods in exchange of their errands finished.

Most of the buildings only belonged to the villagers. Some of them did have a purpose for travelers though. A small store selling general goods was located to the right of the message board. Across the store, a family business of weapons and armor found a great opportunity for customers. A hot anvil along with a smelting pit was stationed outside.

Two other buildings occupied more north of the message board. A small clinic for medical supplies and recovery was open. Adjacent to the building, an even smaller bakery had the scent of baked cookies and cakes.

As the wide hall doors opened, at the behest of Willow, the town was once again revealed. Having now more of a chance to look around from another perspective gave Aear new found knowledge he had not noticed before. Hiding within this banal town was a board it seemed. It contained papers pinned to it that from this distance were a bit to hard to read. Hmm so this is styled more like an open world game than a direct storyline game, though I'm sure that there'll be plenty of story build up as well. Aear grabbed their cat and motioned to their new teammates Come on come on! I wanna be the first to snag a mission and use these new powers! They bolted towards the doors and straight to the board, gazing upon the options at hand they said to themselves Now let's see here...

Jessica's green eyes darted to and fro in a desperate attempt to seek out any contemporary luxuries. This place already had a vegan anime Starbucks, so where were the other stores?

After giving up almost immediately after starting she whizzed to the message board, making the obvious connection that without money, they would probably die. And then sword guy's ghost would haunt her ghost and it would suck. How would you even exorcise a ghost's ghost? Were you supposed to use an exorcist ghost? Could a ghost's ghost also be haunted by a ghost? How deep could that go before god got a headache and just sent you all to therapy? These thoughts weren't really thought of in the standard way inside Jessica's cranium. They were fuzzy concepts that were in her mind, but were unable to be digested by her directly. They were unreachable, sort of like a flounder staring at seagulls soaring above the ocean, or a person trying to vocalize last night's dream about turning into a giant foot. Jessica sighed.

She sighed again, this time out of frustration. The alphabet soup of messages wasn't that hard to read, considering some of the villagers also didn't know how to spell words larger than two syllables, but it cost her several sugar cubes worth of energy to process the text.

The teen read key words out loud to herself, trying to put two and two together. Sketches of men covered in scars, drawings of animals, tarot cards, food and the like drowned each other out. At last she sighed a third time and put her arms behind her head. "Man, prehistoric picture day looks wild."

The bulletin board is filled with various errands and jobs. Some appeared to significant for the whole town while others would only benefit a single person. Other than that, they all shared something in common: a form of a reward upon completion.

“Here ye, Here ye. There is a ferocious ogre at the drinking well outside of the town. His presence certainly became a nuisance. Most villagers are unable to acquire drinking water. I ask that someone please rid of the beast and bring peace to this town.” -Mayor

This seemed promising. A perfect example of heroics that could truly test their powers! Not only that but a pun as well. Aear was delighted to see that puns were also in this world they now inhabited. Alrighty then,
So a search amd conquer mission. Seems simple enough and could easily score us some good points with the mayor of this town.
Aear grabbed the post off of the board to bring over to their teammates and see what they thought of the mission. They made their way towards them and held up the paper. Look! I thought maybe we could do a mission to get some bearings on our powers as well as challenge us a little. This one was posted by the mayor so maybe it'll help our town rep and have good loot. So...whatdya think? They stood there with a grin plastered to their face going from ear to ear. The eagerness to use magic and combat was so apparent it was practically posted on their face. There are ofcourse other missions that are harder and may warrant better rewards but I'd figured if ask permission from you guys first before daring those

Olive slinked up to the bulliten board behind the others and squinted at a small flier off on the side. After taking a moment to skim over the page, she held out a hand...and gently levitated the paper into her outstretched arm. The look of surprise on her face said plenty. "W-Woah, okay, um..." She dropped her gaze back down to the paper, something about a love letter, then turned around and called out. "Hey, uh, group three, I've got an easy one!"

so two options are before us right now. Love letter and the Ogre.
Guess our lovely member 3 should either break the tie or choose one himself
Aear was a bit put off by the love letter as they had never been in love, well unless you count marine life but no one did. They themselves had no idea how to best approach a man or woman let alone open up their heart to them. It seemed like a matter that should be done alone and with personal flair otherwise was it truly love? Aear tried to shake the thoughts out of their head and keep their mind at the task at hand; finding a mission to go on. I'm not...um. Well I'm not the biggest expert on love nor do I know how to woo anyone so I'm not sure if be of much help in that scenario.
I suppose I could spy on the target and gather helpful information but if feel dirty about it.
Aear looked down to the ground swirling the tip of their shoes into the dirt as they spoke. The tone was completely different from earlier, now more somber as if it was difficult to speak of. Never the less they were a team now and cooperation was a must, meaning any challenge must be accepted by all and that each should try to their best to help.

"Well looks like you're out of luck on that nap friend." Skyler chuckled and stood. A wave of relief washed over him as they were allowed to roam outside. The room was starting to get too stuffy for comfort. He watched as his... peers- 'Was that the right word? Eh, it'll do I guess.'- rushed the info board. He decided to enjoy the stroll, examining the village and its surroundings. Quaint and quiet. Just how he liked it. Maybe once things started to settle down, he could come back and make this something like a home...

He shook his head. That as far too far off in the future and there were plenty of things to handle in the here and now. He stopped in front of the mission board. Two immediately caught his eye. Bully Issue hit a personal spot for him. He snagged it off the board and tucked it away in his bag. There was probably another side to the story but he'd deal with it after his teammate decided if he wanted to join. He also grabbed Cave of Novice. A mystery hm? The quest piqued his interest. Plus, his partner would probably approve. He seemed the kind of person that enjoyed the horror genre in life. So he fluttered back excitedly to... Skyler blinked as he realized he never gave his name.

"Well, I think I might have found a few things to get us started! But firstly, whats your name?" Skyler asked as he settled back down in front of him, laying out the two quest notices.

Mark sighed, not really paying attention to anyone as he walked towards the board of jobs. He scanned them and spotted one about a Goblin party. He rolled his eyes and shrugged as he took it form the board. "Guess it can be good to blow off a bit of steam," he mumbled and held up the job to the show his new team. "We're going with this one!" he stated with no intentions of negotiations.

Ysran watched as everyone ran towards the notice board. He'd probably just take what was left. He wasn't feeling like getting involved in all that.

Throughout the chaos, Ysran listened in on some of the conversations. Something about an Ogre. Meh, seemed pretty bland to him, though it would probably be pretty easy. He also heard something about a love letter. A slight grin escaped him. Seriously? A love letter delivery? What was this, Middle School? No thanks. Someone said something about some goblins. Goblins seemed to be pretty standard. He might've picked that had someone not already. There looked to be a few others that weren't taken. Here's hoping that they were somewhat interesting.

After a few moments, Ysran headed towards the board , when Skyler approached him, presumably to talk about what quest they were going to do. He was asked a couple of questions. His name? Oh, right. Guess he never introduced himself.

"My name is Ysran. Ysran Stormreach. So, what did you have in mind? I'd prefer something that involves exploring, if that's alright with you."

"Okay cool!" Skyler grinned as he held up the Cave of Novices quest. "How about this one? We go to a cave and hunt down a wedding ring all while trying to find this "Terror" the woman mentioned. I also have a bullying one but it seems you'd be more interested in this one, yeah?" Skyler held that one up as well for Ysran to inspect. Once he picked, they'd be on their way. Skyler practically buzzed with excitement. This was going to be so cool!

The boy looked like he was ready to burst. Little to much enthusiasm for his standards, but he supposed it'd be nice to have around. Anyways, back to the jobs. He lifted the "Cave of Novice" paper and looked over it.

“Hey, I went inside the cave a few days ago. I couldn’t handle the terror in there. I actually dropped my wedding ring down there. If someone can please retrieve it, I will be forever in your debt. Thank you.”

A wedding ring, huh? That's pretty important. More important than say, a love letter. Heh. Then there was the matter of the "Terror". Was it a monster? Just an overall creepy atmosphere? Guess he'd be finding out. There was also the bully job. Just some drunk asshole looking to get his ass kicked. Meh, seemed a bit to... crude.

"Yeah, I'm definitely liking the look of this 'Cave of Novice'. I'll keep the other one in mind for you though. So when do we set out? Now? Or do you want to see if we could grab some supplies? Assuming they have potions here, a healing potion or two might not hurt. What do you say?"

Olive looks over to Aear, the "bounty" letter (if it could be considered such) still clutched in her hands. "Well...i-it's safer than dealing with ogres. I just figured it's...you know, safe." She lowered her head sheepishly, somehow making herself look short, despite her gangly height. "I was an author in my...uh, p-previous life. I'm not prepared to kill something, even if it's some big, dumb monster thing." She certainly has the eloquence of an author...

HokumPocus RATS WE'RE THE RATS WE ARE THE RATS

Jessica was pumped now that their status as adventurers was official. Mark casually strolled near her and picked the team's mission, which made her incorrectly assume that he was just as fired up as she was. She swiveled her entire body at a concerning speed and began to yell at him. "Woah man, is that the one with the ugly green dudes on it??! Do we get to like, beat them up and everything??! Coolio!!"

Of course, the main thing motivating the girl was the possibility of there being more contemporary commodities around the world, and frankly, she thought a goblin was the present tense verb of eat. Drawing her balled up fists near her collarbones, Jessica spoke in an oddly tender tone. It was sort of like a puppy outside of a butcher shop. "Do you think we can get any hotpockets around here? That lady said some stuff about a bakery." She placed her fists against her temples and gazed at the floor in an act of concentration. For her, thinking was a full body experience. She had come to another groundbreaking conclusion. "So uh, after looking at this place for a lot, it's obvious we're in Texas. And those guys probably have their own version of hotpockets or something that we can eat, which is why I was talking about it." She pictured a crude image of a hotpocket with an entire rib inside of it. Nice.

Her head tilted to look at Mark as she came across a shocking revelation, and begin to speak at the same rate that she was generating ideas in. "I mean, that explains why I got shot in the face! It's sort of like that one dude on TV who put snake poison and then got invincible to it! That's just how people in Texas live!!!"

A sigh escaped him as he thought. So they had to either play matchmaker or dea with an ogre...

"Well...while the love letter is safer...i doubt we really know what were doing. But then again, the ogre could be 10 feet tall for all we know..." erik grumbled, running a hand on the back of his neck.
"Itd all really about what qe are willing to risk. The ogre could be easy, but who knows? We dont know anything about this place. The letter...it will just take time. I cant help much there...i never even kissed a girl,so im kinda useless..."

"Lmao, fuckin' losers." Olive tosses the paper away and steps off.

Oh boy, a whole troupe of virgins may not be the best for assisting someone with love. Olive wasn't about to divulge too much information about herself, so she simply slumped her shoulders and lowered her head. "I..guess...I mean, I just chose it because it's safer. I-I don't know what I could do against an ogre. I don't want to fight." She pauses for a moment, staring down at her feet, before slowly lifting her head up and uttering quietly, "I could...s-summon barriers and stuff, I guess...I mean, I can try."

Well I don't know about 10 feet tall but they're most likely large creatures. Shields would definitely be helpful in a fight since the other may hit hard. I don't know if they have layers or not but we could find out.
Alternatively we could do the love letter amd attempt to gather information but the consequences to that is we may ruin someone's life.
Aear placed their hand up to their chin in a pensive manner. They stared straight off into the distance searching for answers on what the best path would be to take. The attention turned towards Olive. I'm not sure how long we can stave off having to fight in this world. I understand how you're feeling,
I was a marine biologist back in my past so I wasn't exactly a fighter. Though I did play a lot of adventure games and believe we should help the people when wee can. I'm willing to fight... are you guys?
Aear looked at their teammates hoping to find the answers written on their faces. They believed that doing a favor to the mayor could earn some respect in the town and could pay off in the long run. Yet they weren't going to risk the lives of their teammates if they themselves weren't prepared to do so.

Kurotsuki Haruka, Ninja

Haruka looked at the job Mark had singled out and, after ignoring Jessica's nonsensical speak, nodded. "Goblins shouldn't be too difficult to rout," the ninja said calmly. "However," she continued, "depending on how many there are, we may become outnumbered and overpowered. We should be cautious regardless of how weak they are individually."

After saying this, Haruka noticed, out of the corner of her eye, a familiar figure leaned against a back alley wall. It was Clyde, accompanied by Interceptor, as always.

"I'll be back shortly," she informed her teammates before running to the back alley.

"Hey," Clyde said simply. "It seems like you three have already decided on a mission to take on first." Haruka nodded in response.

"Let me see that satchel of yours for a second." Without a word, the younger ninja handed the older ninja her satchel, which contained ten shuriken, and one scroll each of the elements of fire, ice, and lightning. Clyde let out a sharp "Hm." before handing the bag back to Haruka.

"Your group is lucky to have someone like you among them," Clyde said, his tone hinting at a faint smile underneath his cowl. "Shuriken are deadly ranged weapons while in the right hands, and scrolls have a variety of effects depending on which is being used."

"Thank you, Clyde," Haruka responded, smiling herself underneath her scarf. "I'll do my best."

"I don't doubt that for a second. Now, hurry back to your group. You don't want them to get worried, do you?"

Haruka shook her head, then ran back to her teammates, crossing her arms in front of herself upon arrival. "Is everyone ready to go?"

Forrest Brian Idland

Forrest observed the area behind the open door. The scenery impressed him with the glorious, bright colors. His brand new life did grant a pleasant environment. Everything looked almost too read. Forrest doubted his second chance might have been fake, but the colors convinced him. The structure of the buildings, the blue sky, and the green plant-life were real enough.

Forrest spent a bit of time admiring the clouds in the sky. The view reminded of his original life. The elf then glanced over to the rest of the party examining the message board. They appeared fascinated by the various errands and objectives pinned on the signpost. Most likely, the promise of a reward brought them like bugs to a light. Forrest approached the message board while scooting himself between others.

He figured he needed to grab a mission assignment before the rest take them all. "Savages," he muttered. The board looked practically empty once everyone started ripping the papers off. A group even managed to rip two of them off! Forrest glanced at the others discuss the errands. He witnessed Mark aggressively tell his teammates that they were going on a specific mission. "I don't envy them at all," Forrest said to himself.

Forrest chose one of the mundane tasks on the board. He ripped the sheet regarding a particular rat problem. The dark elf might have chosen the more exciting missions, but he lacked the teammates for the job. He looked back and could not find his team anymore. They seemed to have just vanished out of thin air. Forrest had a chill down the middle of his spine. Shrugging it off, he continued to the bar where the supposed culprit hanged out.

Forrest put his arms behind his head. He guessed it was best that he was alone given the reward wouldn't need to be split into three persons. Forrest though wished he had teammates in his group. Preferably later, the dark elf might ask the other group lacking a person if they could use another set of arms.

Mark let a small grin roll onto his face as he rest his sword on his shoulder. "Oh I'm ready, I need to let off a bit of steam," he chuckled with a vicious look in his eyes. With all the crap that's happen he needs to shed a bit of blood. "Lets go you two, the sooner we stomp out these Goblins the sooner we can get our pay," he said before marching in the direction of their soon to be defeated enemies.
