As Crystal made her way back to her spot after embarrassing herself and running between both groups to see her. Her face was red with embarrassment. But that embarrassment quickly went away at the thought of dancing. She never danced with any other man besides her father, and her sister when she forced her to. She nervously looked around as she lined up with the other Ladies, wondering who would be her first victim. Surely she would step on his toes due to her nervousness.
She looked up to see a blonde haired man with an odd cowlick sticking straight up. He was holding a bottle of wine in one hand, and a slip of paper with her number on it. She groaned inwardlyâŚ
Oh great, why did I get the one drunk at the party⌠Why did I have to have a drunk as my first danceâŚâ she frowned for a moment but forced herself to smile. Maybe he was a nice drunk, she saw funny drunks before at her home when the servants were allowed to relax.
âH-h-hello⌠I am Lady C-Crystal Damien. It looks like we are dance partnersâŚâ The young ward was still bitter and reeling from being manipulated into dancing and downing half a bottle of wine did little to soothe him. He had already drunk a bottle and half of the sweet liquor, but was far from drunk, leaving him mentally wishing for some proper booze to help get him through the rest of the evening. At least he got a buzz going which should get him through this dance.
With a reluctant sigh, he strolled to where he needed to be to meet his dance partner and while waiting took this chance to peer into the bottle checking to see if any drops remained. It was then that he caught movement from the corner of his eye; turning his head to see Crystal stepping over to introduce herself and in a rather shy manner at that. And was thatâŚa brief look of dismay he caught?
A curious raise of the brow as he looked the young lady over. A single glance was all it took, combined with that meek way she carried herself to tell she was someone that didnât get out much. She looked so gentle and fragile in that glittering blue dress giving her the appearance of a beautiful figurine, lovely to admire, but one wrong touch could break her. To Kazu, she looked to be a woman treated as such; practically crying out for some proper fun and seeing that he had to dance anyway then he might as well make this enjoyable for the both of them. A sudden flashy grin as he reached over grabbing a passing servant then pushed the empty body in their hands.â
Take care of this for me wonât you. Thank ya kindly.â Patting the servant on the shoulder, leaving the bewildered worker behind as he spun on the spot leading into a low bow of his upper body.â
I am most gracious and delighted to make your acquaintance, Lady Crystal. The name is Kazumin Nagasa, a man who is honored to have himself a most ravishing beauty such as you for a dance partner.â Lifting his head to flash her that wide grin as every movement of his head had that golden cowlick bouncing.
Crystal was taken back at how energetic he was when he whirled around, handing the bottle off. Giving her a large smile. When he introduced himself she blushed at his words. She was expecting a man who could barely stand on his feet, not this loud and interesting character. He bowed and she curtsied back. She was smiling a bit more now, The sudden jarring of how a noble normally acts compared to his presence. Perhaps it wouldnât be as bad as she thought as she held in a giggle upon seeing the cowlick bouncing.
âIt is a pleasure to meet you âŚSir Nagasa.â She said, he didnât give a title, but perhaps it was the alcohol.
âThough I must admitâŚthis is my first ball⌠forgive me in advance if I step on your feet.âHe visibly cringed at being referred to in such a formal manner as he stood up though at the speed he did so it might as well have seemed as if he jumped up.â
Youâre too kind, but Kazu will be enough.â He replied with two quick tugs of his suit shirt fixing any wrinkles when hearing Crystal reveal this to be her first ball.â
Your first? Then I take it this is your first dance with a man thatâs not your father?â He asked with a bit of teasing hint while shaking his head with a twice tsk of the tongue before stepping close, slipping his right arm under hers and with a small tug pulled himself close to her side.â
Then I must be sure to make your first dance a most invigorating and exciting one and no need to fret about the feet stepping thing as Iâm hardly graceful myself. If anyone's feet are to be stepped on then Iâd much prefer it to be my feet than yours.â Said to assure the nervous woman along with a playful wink before strolling onto the dance floor with Crystal at his side.
She blinked a few times when he cringed at her calling him Sir.
âO-oh sorry about that⌠Kazu. she said with a nod.
He then Went on with so much energy in each movement she was starting to get tired. He echoed her saying it was her first, then sounded like he was teasing her for not dancing with anyone but her father. She opened her mouth to explain but then he suddenly pulled her closer. So the sides of their bodies were touching.. She turned bright red. Wasnât he supposed to just take her hand or link elbows⌠this was.. this was REALLY CLOSE. He went on to explain he would make it the best dance she had.
sir⌠I mean, Kazu. Of course it will be⌠the best one so far. As it is my first to judge on.â she said shyly. Trying to pull apart without making it clear she was trying to pull away so they were not touching. Not that she didnât LIKE the feeling, it just seemed too intimate and embarrassing on the ballroom floor.
To hear the young lady accept calling him by his nickname made that big grin widen all the more as the two strolled towards the dance floor. And unlike Crystal who was currently blushing up a storm upon having their sides touching, Kazu paid it little mind; being so used to being more physical with those he interacted with save for the exception of hugging which always unnerved him for some reason not entirely known to him.â
Then that only gives me all the more reason to do my utmost best to please the lovely judge.â
Giving a nod of his head once more before turning his gaze to her and in doing so had finally taken notice of how red her face was. For a moment he wondered what could be making her so flushed, but after a few moments it dawned on him that the lessons taught were to take hold of her hand not lock arms.*
Gah! You idiot!.* He bumped his own forehead with the palm of his hand for being so forgetful then thought to correct course, but the two were already stepping onto the dance floor leaving little point in doing so though he did shift away enough to no longer have his side touching hers.â
HahahâŚuh sorry about that. I can get a littleâŚovereager at times. Iâll just say it's due to the wineâs influence.â His attempt to cover up his mistake even though the wine had very little effect on him.
Crystal let out a sigh when they did pull apart finally. She glanced up at him and gave a small smile.
âItâs fineâŚâ was all she could manage as she took a few breaths. She nodded when he was ready.
âLet us dance then?â she said a little more confidently. As she waited for him to take the lead she looked at him closely. He was very cute. But his mannerisms certainly did not fit a nobleâŚ
âYouâŚForgive me for askingâŚare not a noble?âHaving hopefully made up for his overzealous act just then seeing as Cyrstal didnât seem to mind too much. Definitely something to keep in mind in the future as other women might not be so accepting of his overly forward touching, the Alidasht ladies quickly coming to mind.
Now that the awkwardness caused by him was taken care of he would take a moment to look over the dance floor. Eventually spotting Persephone and could only help but chuckle inwardly to himself.*
Hope whoever that unlucky fella is doesnât have anything important in his pockets.* Snickering to himself as he soon noticed that they had found a nice open spot and turned to face Crystal, relieved to see her not blushing bright red anymore at least.*
OkâŚnow how do I do this again?* He thought while taking a quick glance to the nearest pair only to be reminded they would be doing one of if not the most boring dance imaginable, the waltz.
The mere thought of the waltz was starting to lull him to sleep, but thankfully the young lady spoke up. Her words were just the thing needed to break him from the drowsing stupor.â
Is it that obvious? And here I thought I was doing the noble role quite well.â Responding in that playful tone once more; a role he had no wish to play unless absolutely needed though the gorgeous lass didnât seem the type to be all that perturbed.â
I hope my being a commoner does not bother you too much, Lady Crystal.â He continued while taking a step forward placing his left hand on her hip, making sure not to place it too low or too high, his right hand taking hold of hers in a gentle grip.
Crystalâs face turned into that of terror at when she realized how rude it sounded, especially him making sure it didnât bother her.
âI am really sorry, I didnâtâŚmean to say it like that. You being a commoner doesnât bother me. The servants at my fathers home, I consider them as friends.â She sighed as she sounded like she was just making excusesâŚ
â What I meant was, how did you come to be here? You do dress up well enough to pass as a noble. I was just wonderingâŚthat's all.â She said, looking away for a moment. Before back up to him.
Her response combined with that momentary look of terror on her face made him laugh with a wide toothy grin.â
Nothing to be sorry about, Iâm not ashamed at all of what I am or who knows it. But it does the heart good to know my partner to not only be beautiful, but also fine being friends with her servants. And around here among these nobles makes for a pleasant rarity.â Finishing with a wink to assure her no offense taken.
â
And as to how i found myself is a tale in itself, but I find ones about me to be quite boring. The waltz is already plenty of that and adding a plain story on top of it would likely lull us both to sleep.â Tilting his head with eyes closed doing a mock snoring then perked back up.â
Perhaps Iâll tell it next time we meet though the quick answer is that I found myself taken in by Baron Asterothâs as his ward after saving his life.â The way he explained had it sounding like it was mundane and boring like telling someone about their trip to the shop.
Crystal was confused for a moment when he started to laugh, sighing only after she heard he took no offense. She did blush at being called beautiful, but didn't say anything as he started to move On with his short âtale.â She giggled at him, fainting and falling asleep. This man was nothing like she met before. Oh she met jesters and jokers, but it wasnât the same as someone who seemed to naturally be outgoing and a bit of a goof.
The way he worded his very short story was that he was possibly a good story teller. Different from just a writer like herself, but she could see how he could tell an entertaining tale with his mannerisms. When he finished quite abruptly she hesitated.
âYou cannot just end on âsaving his lifeâ. I know storytellers love their cliff hangers⌠but that was a cliff drop off.â She said with an intrigued smile.
Nothing made him happier than to make others laugh even at the expense of making himself look a bit foolish whether it be through his goofy antics or stories. And that glint of interest in her eyes told him she was a person who possibly enjoyed a good story. Her joking comment was a good sign she was lightening up and beginning to have fun and with it an opportunity to tell a story.
Considering he was already denied once tonight and as such would not allow this chance slip him as well. Then again, another thought came to mind; if that old bastard expects a show then he could give him and everyone a show unlike any other.â
Glad to see you so interested and I could very well continue, but I think I may have two other suggestions in mind to make this bland waltz more engaging. The first being that I tell you a cute little story as we dance orâŚ.I show you a far more enthralling and exciting dance. I leave the choice up to you, Lady Crystal. â Kazu gave a coy nudge of the eyebrow as he slowly led their dance and actively working to avoid stepping on her feet took some good effort from his end.
Crystal was taken back at a sudden decision she unexpectedly had to make. She didnât think this dance was bland but she was also kinda worried what the âenthralling excitingâ dance would be. She noticed how much he was actively working on making sure he didnât step on her toes, and this only made it more difficult. If he has trouble with this danceâŚ. Would the more exciting one be more dangerous for her?
I, um⌠I donât know. she said, trying to fill in the silence. But like a kid who is always looking into things that might be dangerous, or opening boxes they shouldnât be opening, she decided.
âWhat is it that will make this dance different?âKazu used this silence to mentally repeat the steps miss Agatha taught him regarding the waltz to keep their dance going without stepping on her feet. His gaze lifted from the floor where he had been checking to make sure of this upon hearing Crystal speak up.â
Curious are we? Well, as a hint itâs a dance I picked up a little while back that I would not mind trying out with you. Is that your choice then? â He asked with a raised brow; ready and eager to do anything else than the waltz, a dance that was so slow and restrictive which required a good bit of concentration, but he preferred styles that allowed more movement and activity.
Crystal sighed⌠he really wasnât going to give her any more clues⌠it sounded intense, but she also didnât want to rock the boat any more than she already did. She looked at him and said,
âIn case itâs too taxing for me and I donât know what this dance is⌠I will just stick with the story.âHe could see the bit of annoyance in the way she sighed at his lack of proper answers, but his aim was to ensure her first dance was plenty fun. Both of his suggestions would offer this.
Then he got his answer.
â A story it is then. A fine choice.â A nod of his head as he then took a moment to ponder on what kind of story he should tell; a storyteller should know to tell one befitting their audience and through this brief interaction with Crystal, Kazu could tell she was one to to enjoy a nice cute, yet motivating story.
â Hm, alright! I got it.âHe chimed up while moving in a way to have the two do a quick twirl on the spot as did so.
â
Nestled safely and comfortably within her cage set beside a window was a sweet little hamster with fur soft as cotton and golden wheat color. Her name was Ginny. A life of comfort; pampered and needs all taken care of by her loving owner, but the cage was all she knew and would spend her days gazing longingly through the window. Curiosity and desire left her fantasizing about freedom and adventure.â Continuing to lead their dance as he spoke though unlike before his step seemed to gain a bit more confidence to them while his face held a focused expression.
Crystal was slightly confused when he took a moment. She thought he was going to finish the story of how he saved the Baron. She blinked as she suddenly twirled around unexpectedly which made her smile. She looked up at him when started and listenedâŚ..
She had a smile as he started talking about a hamster, confused still but wanting to see where he goes with it. Even though he just started, it instantly resonated with her⌠And her smile was instantly gone. Her eyes grew wide.
W-waitâŚam I the hamster? He just instantly summarized my life. How does he know thisâŚH-has he been watching me? How? How long? WHY? Crystal pulled away quite suddenly, her hands up in front of her to put a buffer between them. Her face was a mixture of fear, confusion, disgust.
âW-who are you?!â She pulled her arms in as her body shivered with disgust while she closed her eyes. Was that way he pushed his body against hers? What was That dance going to be?!?
She took a few steps back, bumping into some other dancers. Causing her to fall down. But she quickly pulled herself up. She didnât even notice who or apologize disrupting them.
âJ-just Stay away from me! Don't come near me!â She said quite loudly, with her eyes on the verge of tears before turning and hurrying off the dance floor.
Where Kazu paused to gauge Crystalâs reaction to see if the story was enjoyable for her. But where he hoped to see her smiling, instead saw an unexpected mixture of fear and disgust. He blinked; confused and lost. Trying to figure out what it was he said that could have brought out such a negative reaction though before he could attempt to apologize or ask if something was wrong she had pulled away.
His eyes widened in shock upon watching her back away and in doing so saw her stumble and fall.â
Lady Crystal! Are y- â Moving to try to help her up, but she did so on her own then demanded he stay away from her making Kazu stop short; stunned as he was left watching the poor girl run off in tears. In an instant he could feel several pairs of eyes on him, harsh judgemental gazes digging into him like heated pokers, but none of it hurt more than the immeasurable guilt he felt for hurting Crystal in such a manner and withâŚruining her first dance.
And he had no idea what he could have possibly done to have it happen. It was clearly a misunderstanding, not that it mattered. He went too far; probably from being too forward or something he said in the story struck a bad chord. Whatever the case, Kazu knew he screwed up horribly yet again tonight.
Having no idea what to do or say leaving him nothing else but to slink off the dance floor. Miss Agathaâs words rang in his head as he went.*
You better reign in that tongue of yours or mark my words you will hurt or anger someone. * These words echoing in his head stung made worse from the stings of those harsh stares.
Once off the dance floor he had covered his face in his hands and let out a heavily dejected groan. Now, more than ever could he use some proper hard booze to drink away this abysmal night.
