The Saltrunner sets Sail!

As the day passed on, the crew of the Saltrunner prepared the ship for its next voyage. The previous day had been eventful, what with the enoucnter of bloodthirsty bandits looking for a quick score, as well as giving their young charge Ismael a chance to experience the more questionable side of Avalia's underbelly. The night would prove to be uneventful compared the early afternoon, and the crew would have a chance to enjoy the solace of a fully belly and whatever entertainment their evenings provided. Because we all know pirates never really sleep.

Captain Drosis was busy as usual with procuring the permits to travel along their destined path as well as gathering information from his network of sources. He had given Tanithil something that he called "opportunity" to show off his capabilities aside from just "flinging shadow magic". Once the elf had called Tanithil into his office, he slid a piece of paper across his desk and gestured to look at it while continuing to look over a peculiar binder of his own that he had crafted with twine and paper. Tanithil picked up the parchment and knew immediately just what it was. A map. Possibly to treasure. Possibly to danger. He was unsure where at first. However the Captain quickly assured him this was a special map he had procured from an old friend back in Port Vanarosa. Said friend had gotten it himself off the back of a myserious cart owned by a mysteriously scrawny orc (compared to other orcs that is).

The map itself promised a great treasure where it was marked, but Tanithil held reservations. False maps and tricks were not far off from other pirates - or even giving a map to a treasure they already plundered to turn double the profit. The sources in this case seemed trustworthy enough, so the dark elf took the map as a serious chance for their crew to earn some more gold - and train their new member. The location was south of the Orc city of Dugmaghord, in the southern reaches of the desert and just along the line of what most considered the "uninhabitable zone" of the desert. They would certainly have to be careful but Tanithil figured it would be a proper challenge for crew of the mighty Saltrunner. With a nod he folded the map up, and walked out of the Captain's quarters. The ship itself had been prepped to launch for some time now, and was only awaiting the orders of Drosis before setting out. Tanithil put his fingers to his lips and whistled sharply for the crew to hear.

"Right then! I gots us a destination from the Captain himself. Says we might find us a good haul if we make it to the desert in the east. South of Dugmaghord. Let's sail out, Saltrunners!" With that proclomation he immediately swung a vine of dark energy up into the raftors to lift himself onto the helm of the ship, and readied himself to steer the ship out of port and into the deep blue Avalian sea. Whatever dangers or trials awaits, he did not know much of, but he took another glance at the crew and smiled, ready to take anything on beside them.

【Time】 Night
【Location】 North Pass
【Interactions】 @FunnyGuy EROS
【Equipment】 Magic infused collar | Simple bow | Coin pouch | Various herbal satchels | Simple bone dagger

Cyrene had been given a thin white cotton gown to wear under the poncho that the man had provided at least allowing her some dignity in her situation. However, her feet had already started to become sore from the rough terrain on her bare skin.

Night had drawn as the sun set over the horizon. As the light was swallowed by darkness, like a curtain unveiling the secrets it held, Cyrene's pale skin began to decorate with wispy markings that appeared to the naked eye like tattoos that glowed under the moonlight. As soon as the man had noted her markings, it wasn't long until she was being dragged behind him, hands bound by rope as it chafed against her pale skin.

“I am trying to tell you I am no danger to you, sir. “ Cyrene said between gritted teeth as she pulled hard on the rope, her hands shooting back as she jerked him back with force. “I can’t sing for you…OR anyone!” her tone rose with frustration. “I am as worthless as a one pronged fork.” She sat down quickly on the ground, making her dead weight hard to pull in protest. “I will not be your prisoner,” she stated firmly as she started to chew on the rope around her wrists trying to shred the threads.

Eros had remained silent as he stared over his shoulder at the glowing and pleading siren. In some regard he considered himself fortunate, but his former teachers taught him that the best of things often manifested some form of trouble. He clicked his tongue a few times as he shook his head and turned his body around to face Cyrene.

“Lies won't help you, siren. You gave me three untruths so I shall give you three un-untruths… Truths, yes.” He briefly grimaced at his mistake, shaking it off to keep his expression neutral. “One! You are a danger to everyone and anyone who hears your song. Two! You are a siren. The tattoos have removed any doubt in my mind and everyone knows sirens sing but it won't work on me. Not even a little. Three! A one-pronged fork can be of worth. It can still stab things.” He narrowed his eyes slightly. “Four! Four? Four… Hmm, you told four lies.” He shook his head while clicking his tongue again. “You are my prisoner and that's not much you can do about it. I am as strong as two orcs and as stubborn as the oldest of dwarves! I am Eros and I am your captor, siren!” He took a hard step forward. “Walk or be dragged. Make your choice.”
Cyrenes eyes looked up at Eros as she was mid-bite of the thick rope. Her teeth pressed firmly into the twine as she paused. Her brain was rushing with thoughts in a jumbled mess of anxiety. He didn’t look strong, she had seen much larger creatures and men in her travels. The stubborn part she could possibly believe and clearly Eros enjoyed facts over words.

Standing to her feet Cyrene looked at the man with a kind expression, hoping she could some how break through to him. “This..” She said as her thumbs wrapped up under the solid steel circle collar around her neck, pulling it up off of her collar bone. Eros couldn't help but to be intrigued, even if he wanted to, he couldn't hide it as he leaned in. “It's a collar. Sealed with very powerful magic, magic that only one person can unlock.” She paused hoping the information sunk in. “It blocks me from using my voice. If I try, it zaps me with a powerful blast of magic that causes my entire body to shut down temporarily.” She tried to hide the pain from her face as her hands dropped in front of her. “Yes, I am a Siren but I am not worth anything to you. No one will want a voiceless Siren. Just let me go before you waste more of your time…”

“Hmm… Hmmmm…” Eros began to rub his chin. “You would be worth anything to me if what you claim is true…” He raised an eyebrow. “What if we found this one person and forced him to return your song? Hm?”

Normally she had an answer for everything, but she stood there as her fingers dropped from her collar staring in disbelief. Although he would be doing it for his own selfish gain she could possibly be free of him … If he managed to get the collar removed she could easily use her voice to charm her way out of his capture and finally be free. The idea was so strange of a concept…Freedom.

Playing it cool Cyrene offered him a nod “Yes, although he would be rather hard to find…I've been searching for years. He is the only one with a key.” Elrand… she hadn’t dared to think or speak his name in years, her head still ached from the betrayal he caused her.

“Interesting, but why silence a Siren and leave her? Is that collar a punishment for your crimes? Hmm? And you're searching for him? Hmmmmm.” He pondered for a moment and lightly tugged on the rope. It was clear he wanted her to walk but he was not in the mood to make the demand again. Despite calmness while thinking, he was slowly working up a nerve.

Looking around nervously, her eyes meeting back to Eros. She hadn’t spoken about him in so long, even the thoughts he brought back were causing her more pain then she would let him to believe. “A classic tale of a foolish woman falling in love…” she said somberly. Eros narrowed his eyes at the start of her explanation. A siren falling in love? I’d be a fool too if I fell in love with a plum…

“Like you, he wanted wealth, he just wasn’t so forward about it…” her voice dropped as sadness seemed to envelope her words.

“Hm.”

“Wouldn’t you want your chains removed if they were forced upon you? Yes, I am looking for him but only to rid me of this collar… If you help me find him, convince him to have this removed… then I promise you I will go with you willingly and see to it that you are paid at the end.” She extended her hands out to him in hopes she had convinced him enough to free her. If he did, she could run… or…she could finally rid herself of him.

“Hm.”

“My name is Cyrene…and I swear to you Eros that I will stay true to my word.” she kept silent, her eyes watching his face for any sort of hint that this was working.

“Hm… Ehh… Errgh… Meh…” Eros made faces of discomfort as he grunted until he finally let loose a sigh. And then with a grunt and a turn, Eros pulled Cyrene along. With the pull of the rope Cyrene felt her body catch itself as she walked forcefully behind him, Her mind catching up too what had just happened. “I hate when others don't listen. You were supposed to walk and talk. Not talk and talk. Do you think I will just trust a murderer’s words? Do you believe I need your help with negotiating? Your collar is the penance that man placed upon you. This rope is the penance I place upon you.”

Cyrene let out a frustrated sigh, this man clearly had a thick head and talking wasn’t going to get her anywhere. “I hate when others don’t listen too..” She snapped as the slack of rope lassoed around his body. She may not be the best fighter but she had experience in wrestling deer and other strong creatures into submission. As the roped fell around Eros she pulled tightly, causing his feet to buckle. She quickly wrapped what rope she had left around his ankles. Thinking him secured, Cyrene sat at the end of his feet on the ground attempting to break through the ropes once agian with her teeth. She felt the threads shred under her teeth as fibers began to slowly snap apart.

No one would claim her again. No one.

Mari & Aerilyn

Time: Evening
Location: Camp made outside Roshmi

After the group had agreed to work together, they had been very quickly kicked out of the Nest and pursued by patrons who were angry to say the least about all the chaos that had occurred. Fortunately, Aerilyn knew a spot out of Roshmi that they could safely make camp in to discuss. There, she explained more information on her bounty.

Aerilyn had told the crew that there was group of goblins numbering over twenty, and that they were being led by a Manticore. The goblins were thus much more deadly than usual and were more organized in their combat and strategy tactics. She had also explained in detail the slaughter of her old party warning the crew that this would not be something they could rush into. Unbeknownst to all but Aerilyn, the goblins were withholding a horde of wealth beyond their dreams as well as her old party’s loot, and she was hoping the group would help her retrieve it with some planning.

Unfortunately, as the day progressed, FIVE's arm succumbed to the damage it had sustained, necessitating a detour for the group to seek someone proficient enough for repairs. As dusk painted the sky with the rising moons, Mari hurried into the camp.

Aerilyn had arranged a comfortable camp for the group. A travel shelter provided cover, and she had secured some food. The enticing aroma of a tasty stew filled the air as a pot simmered atop a portable fira.

The rabbit demihuman hummed as she put the finishing herbs into the stew. She took a small spoon dipping it into the juicy liquid before blowing on it to cool it down. As the liquid touched her taste buds her ears perked up with excitement, “Darn that’s good!” She said aloud gleefully, “Hey y’all dinners ready!” she said to the crew sitting by the campfire.

“Oh FIVE I don’t know what ya eat but I got oil if that toots your fancy.” She said laughing. Aerilyn grabbed herself a bowl and then moved to sit by the campfire on a log. Her attention turned to the blonde elf running into the camp.

“Guysss! Guess what! “ Mari jogged over, her voice breaking through the sound of crickets chirping. “Totally caught word of someone who can help Five. Apparently their name is Scathael and they-” She broke off and her gaze narrowed. Her eyes slowly slid to the pot and locked on her target. After a big whiff of the air, Mari asked with an unusual intensity, “Is that some sort of meat stew?

“Why yes it is! We got six types of meat in that stew. We got beef, we got chicken, we got burstag…” Aerilyn started to reply but it became clear Mari wasn’t listening and somehow already kneeling by the pot.

She lifted her the lid as she licked her lips, her eyes wide.

Aerilyn glared towards Mari who was now just reaching into the pot with the ladle about to eat from the pot. “MARI NO! You grab a bowl and come sit down!”

“Oh fuck off! What are you, my mom!?” Mari retorted and met her glare with one of her own. Though after a moment, she averted her gaze and grumbled a few curses under her breath. With a touch of aggression, she grabbed a bowl and served herself some stew before settling down

““When you cook the meal you can talk back.” Aerilyn giggled and stuck her tongue out with a wink towards Mari.

Time: Afternoon --> Evening
Location: Guavav Village
Interactions: @Helo Cyrus @13org Viola @Alivefalling Dante @FunnyGuy Darius @samreaper Menzai
Equipment: Staff with unbreaking and shift enchantment(shifts into dagger), Her bag, Water Purifier, Flask, some shiny pebbles
Attire:Dress, which she decorated with flowers and hung little charms off the ropes, A small antler headdress with flowers and jewels, amulet with Millinia Crest, wooden butterfly earrings, various bracelets

After lunch, Phia escorted Cyrus, Viola, and Darius back to her and Menzai's home, and offered up her bedroom to Cyrus and Viola to relax in for the day after such an arduous ordeal. Her room was a bizarre sight to most besides Phia. As they walked in, the sound of windchimes filled the air. The wooden walls served as a canvas for a varying assortment of trinkets. Shimmering crystals dangled from the ceiling, casting kaleidoscopic patterns across the room as they caught the sunlight filtering through the windows. In one corner, a collection of colorful rocks and gems sparkled rounded wooden shelves. Bones adorned the window sills. Two handcrafted swing seats hung from sturdy ropes like suspended cocoons. The seats themselves were adorned with plush cushions and draped with soft fabrics.

A soft hum filled the air, emanating from a cluster of peculiar little bugs that fluttered and chirped in circular glass containers, suspended from the ceiling by strands of thread. Fireflies darted about her bedroom and flowers seemed to be growing out from the cracks of her floorboards. A young fox was curled up on top of her bed, sound asleep.

As a tarantula scuttered across the floor, Phia scooped it up in the palms of her hands and turned to Viola and Cyrus with a smile. "I have plenty of snacks and books with pretty pictures in the cupboard on the right. Please make yourself at home, precious friends. I have important matters I must attend to, then I would like to meet with you two for supper tonight pleasely. We can talk about finding your family. I will bring something to draw with so we can make posters. " After a pause, she added very seriously, "Feel free to pet my baby boy Sunny over there. He loves head pats."

Following that, she had checked in on Darius, inviting him to accompany her to visit Dante, who thankfully was in good condition. However, he was resting which was no surprise after what he had been through today. Phia subsequently found Menzai once he had returned and decided to remain at his side while he was recovering. She felt the strong urge to protect him. Knowing that she had almost lost him had unnerved her. It wasn't a feeling she was used to and she did not enjoy it.

Phia had eventually fallen asleep, her head faceplanted into the side of the bed, her body contorted in an unusual position, and a tarantula seated neatly on her head. As the hours passed and night set in, she began to stir.

Bardulf

Time: Morning -> Evening
Location: Roshmi City -> Roshmi Port, aboard an unnamed ship
Interaction: Mister Luum @FunnyGuy, Rue @Potter, Bowyn @Helo, and Zeva @Pink Khione

Bardulf took the opportunity to gather some things he knew would be necessary if he were to continue being amongst a group of avid hunters and adventurers in a realm where magic was very much real and the creatures were about ten times as dangerous. With the little amas he had, he garnered a small mental shopping list and with the safety of the group nearby, purchased 30 feet of rope, an animal trap, a fishing net, some winter clothes, and 50 steel ball bearings that were for a little idea he had. Just as he was looking to leave the shop he overheard the clerk talking about a nice pair of night-seeing glasses he had purchased the other day, and Bardulf couldn't help but be curious. Hunting at nighttime was the worst for him considering he had very little vision, and relied heavily on his hearing to find prey. However after taking one look through these night-vision granting glasses, he knew he had to have them.

With his coin purse much later he gathered his gear and joined the others on whatever errands they considered necessary to finish and before long they had made their way to an entire wooden vessel capable of floating on the water. Bardulf had never seen such a thing, being in a landlocked country surrounded by forestlands. One step on the deck proved to strange and wobbly, as if he had poor footing no matter where he stood. The rocking of the waves gave his internal organs their own challenge as he stopped himself from feeling sea sick as best he could. These new sensations were certainly interesting....Bardulf would have preferred simply walking but from what little Mister Luum had told him, they were about to go to a far away winter island. So the man simply bucked up and dealt with the discomfort as he normally would, and simply told himself that it would be worth it when he could step on freshly packed snow again. He truly missed the feeling, having been sent here in the middle of the springtime back home.

Bardulf would currently be near the helm of the ship, still shrouded in his cloak to hide his appearance as best he could, but also taking short paces around the top of the ship to practice his footwork and balance. Once he began to familiarize himself with it, it was no different then hiking on the mountainside in the rain. "A calm foot paves the strongest path" is what his father would always tell him. With great effort, he practiced getting used to the sway of the sea and would be intently focused, hardly noticing if anyone were to come by.

Once the spiders had been dealt with, Malachi and Kenia had attempted to spend a few moments trying to locate Jun, only to find he was gone. Faced with no other recourse, they carried the injured Zion to the River Port medical center, where a team of physicians and healing fairies sprang into action. They had decided to sedate Zion to ensure a calm environment for his treatment, given his large and powerful lion demihuman form would be dangerous if he started to thrash about.

Reluctant to leave Zion in the care of someone they had only just met, especially under such dire circumstances, Malachi hesitated before leaving to look for Jun. Fortunately, Enstille joined them, providing a familiar presence.

Despite protests from the medical workers, who now knew about the spiders looming outside River Port, Malachi harbored a determination to first locate Jun and then hopefully find time to report the incident to the River Port town council. However, this task proved more challenging than anticipated. As the night enveloped the surroundings, Malachi found himself navigating through dense woods, clutching an orb of light that cast its dim glow through between the trunks of the trees.

A terrible sense of deja vu closed in on the elf as he found himself alone. His voice echoed through the canopy as he yelled out Jun's name into the darkness.

Led by the kid, who navigated the forest like he had a GPS implant, Jun reached a river where they spotted some River Port locals. Jun rushed up and begged them to call an ambulance, but no matter how he phrased "call emergency services" —911, 999, 112, or 119—, they just stared back baffled.

It wasn't until Jun frantically explained that a lionman was gravely injured and in need of medical attention tout suite that the locals finally grasped the severity of the situation. They agreed to gather help to bring Zion to care, offering to take the kid too.

In the meantime, Jun needed water for Zion. Without any containers, he peeled off his shirt and soaked it up with as much water as the fabric could hold. Concerns about sanitation crossed his mind, but it had to be better than nothing.

Cradling the dripping bundle, Jun hotfooted back to where he left the others, only to find nobody there. Well, technically not "nobody" if you counted the giant spider carcasses. Everyone else—Malachi, purple lady, and most importantly Zion—vanished, leaving a half-naked loser standing alone in the woods with only the mangled arachnids for company.

Had they duped him? He doubted it—the raw terror and pain on Zion's face couldn't have been faked. Logic suggested the others carted Zion off for medical help the second Jun and the kid were out of eyeshot. The theory gave him some relief. But then a more chilling thought wormed its way in.

This LARPing community was even more unhinged than Jun realized. So hell-bent on preserving the illusion, they waited until Jun was gone to finally aid Zion when they had the option to quickly transport him any time. To them, fantasy eclipsed real harm. This crystallized Jun's growing fears about Avalia: the longer he stayed, the less likely he'd get back home in one piece.

Time to hit the road. Yesterday.

Jun grabbed his stuff and crammed what he could into his backpack. A canteen for water—check. Questionable map—check. All the bread totally-just-a-friendly-neighbor-who-can-hold-her-own-in-a-fight brought—double check. There were probably more useful things he should've packed if he just took a moment to think, but there wasn't time. He needed to go before they noticed he was alone.

He struggled into an old shirt and pair of pants he found in the house, reasoning they would help him blend into the crowds better than his "Earth" garb (not to mention his own shirt still needed time to dry). At least the cloak covered the worst of the bad fit.

Jun could've just legged it then, but his conscience needled him to compensate for the "borrowed" goods and broken picture frame. Unsure of the value or exchange rate, he left a mishmash of cash and amas on the table he hoped would cover the cost.

He scribbled a hasty note to Zion (saying "I hope you get better soon"), then crumpled the sentiment into a ball and tossed it into the bin. What a waste. Pity be to the trees sacrificed to make the paper.

It wasn't as if his good wishes could change what happened or heal the big guy any better or faster. Zion had plenty of well-wishers and medical staff helping him. Jun would make no difference—he made no difference.

An anxious double-check later, Jun slipped out into the afternoon sun.

While Viola didn't really care about the stares she received from the other people in the village, she wasn't exactly comfortable being around them either... Especially after the 'warm' welcome the wolves gave her and her brother. To make things even more complicated, there was another pressing matter that still worried Viola... Her sister Ophelia... or 'Phia' as she was known now and Viola's own feelings about her. Even after the peaceful, albeit silent (at least regarding Viola herself) lunch, her mind still raced. Her two 'sides' battling each other, only giving Viola even more to think about.

Due to that, when Phia offered them a place to rest, Viola was grateful. At least at first, before she realized it would be Phia's own bedroom. The moment they entered her room, Viola was almost overwhelmed by it's rather... 'peculiar' style. While it was impossible to not notice the amount of animals Phia kept in her room, Viola wasn't really bothered by them, instead, the main culprits for that were the amount of crystals, lights and colors inside her room. The fact that Phia would also be there would certainly prevent Viola to take a moment for herself to organize and calm down her thoughts. She was about to excuse herself and go for a walk on the forest nearby when Phia mentioned she had some matters to attend to.

Viola gave a silent nod of thanks before Phia left, before sitting down, albeit a bit uncomfortably, on one of the swing seats. To most people, Viola's expression was the same cold, distant expression she often had, but Cyrus, who was already traveling with her for some time would be able to see the small signs that there was something troubling his sister.

Much later in that night though, when Phia was already sleeping, Viola finally felt she needed to talk to Cyrus about what she was feeling.

"Brother... Cyrus... Are you awake?" Viola whispered, approaching Cyrus' bed and gently nudging him.

"Please join me for a walk... We... We need to talk about our 'sister'..." she said, giving a step back and heading to the door, hoping he would follow her for a walk outside the village.

While Viola truly trusted Cyrus, it was still incredibly difficult and unlikely for her to ask for help or advice, like she was at the moment instead of keeping her problems to herself and dealing with them in silence.

Time: Evening
Location: Gaurav Village: Phia’s Room
Interactions: Viola@13org
Mentions: Phia@princess
Equipment: A pack with some supplies, seeds (in his pockets), a small knife, a mask that hangs from his belt, a weapon with a shifting charm that is either a sickle or a glaive, and a shield/drum with an unbreakable charm.

The swing of a door set off a symphony of wind chimes as light danced through suspended crystals and fireflies flew about as if this were a nightclub built just for them. Or perhaps it was a museum; even more small critters scurried about in jarred habitats carefully dangling from above and every surface was filled with bones, rocks, gems, and geodes. Flowers and foliage grew in through every crack in wooden walls and floorboards, further filling the room with the scents and sounds of the earth.

A room of carefully organized chaos, everything placed in a manner that showed off each item’s beauty. To look around in here was to find one’s eye drawn all about the room with every piece of her collection offering insights into who Phia was now. Someone who welcomed the natural world into her space, who cared for small creatures, who found beauty in simple things; someone not so different from the Ophelia he remembered. A room filled with life just as Ophelia had always been. A room that collected the bones of the dead, someone who does not need the world's darkness kept hidden from them, an embrace of all aspects of nature.

Phia’s room was an eclectic array of wonders, and so Cyrus took his time studying each small wonder after Phia left. He too wished to speak with Menzai but now was not the time for difficult conversations with the injured wolf. Nor was it the time to converse with Viola about the day’s difficulties, not only because insects could never quite be trusted to keep secrets but Viola too seemed in need of the quiet. Sunny became the proud recipient of many head pats and ear scratches as Cyrus attempted to calm his nervous energy.

Soon the sunlight that danced through the window was replaced by moonlight, and even as the swinging chair gently rocked him beneath the glow of fireflies, sleep was not granted. The weight of holding a secret bore down and left a hollow nagging feeling in him. His thoughts drifted to childhood nights spent in a treehouse surrounded by his siblings, a time when there was little distance at all between any of them. Viola’s request for a walk was a welcomed reprieve from the wallowing.

“I don’t like keeping this secret. It feels like lying.” Cyrus quietly admitted to Viola once they were outside.

Darius by@FunnyGuy and Dante by @Alivefalling

Time: Evening
Location: Gaurav Village
Interactions:
Equipment: 2 shot glasses, 1036 Amas total, Flowers from Phia, Dante’s cellphone, and Dante’s knife

After eating a long breakfast with the fairies, Darius made sure to give a somewhat good first impression while ensuring the tone of the outing was light and whimsical. The group had just battled a massive creature that required both Dante and Menzai the need for medical attention. He felt the need to escape his feelings of guilt and inadequacy with humor and the taste of good food. He wasn’t sure if his jokes landed with Viola but he damn sure tried to make sure they did.

After the meal, Darius decided to mingle with some of the Gaurav villagers while also giving a few of them reassurance about the two newcomers while telling the tale of the battle against the mighty Roc in the most embellishing way possible.

In time, he and Phia went to check up on Dante. When the topic of seeing Menzai came up, Darius declined by telling her that he wanted to stay with his brother. In fact, Darius didn't wish to see Menzai. Not now. He actually left promptly after Phia did once he determined Dante had been awake since drinking the potions given to him. Darius snuck away just outside of the village’s perimeter where he and Dante had created a makeshift gym. Burning a few hours of the day, Darius eventually made his way back to Dante who had spent most of the day resting.

Their living space wasn’t much to brag about. It was bare but made tidy by both brothers. It didn’t contain any fancy trinkets or decorations and just what was given by the Gaurav people.

“You ready?”

“You ready?” Dante said in unison with his brother. “Wait, what the fuck are you talking about?” Dante was visibly confused which only made Darius chuckle.

“Our armor is ready, I think. Our wolf friends hooked us up with a reward for killing the giant bird. Wanna go check?”
“Well shit let’s go. I was gonna ask are you ready to train.” Dante replied as he got up from the bed and rushed over to the door. “Wait where are we going for the armor?” He paused as he grasped the handle on the door. Darius was right behind him placing a forward guiding hand on his shoulder.

“I think our stuff should be at the big hut where all the old dogs go to talk about important shit. I was thinking we could walk in and walk out. No biggie. And then, we can train in ‘em.” Darius tapped his temple a few times with his index finger. “Smart, huh?” He said as the two made their way out the door.

“So what happened? Like during the fight.” Dante turned the conversation as the two traveled to their destination.

“Uh… Well…” Darius raised an eyebrow as he tried to think of the best way to answer Dante. Besides his grand tales of what happened, the actual battle against the roc was still a sore subject. “Well, after Menzai… y’know. You… You broke or something. Lost it. I should have tried to choke you out but you managed to kill the roc with stuff I didn’t know you or I could do.” Darius shook his head. “You alright? I mean, in the head.”

The thought of resting the whole day had been racking Dante’s brain for hours as he had tried to recall the situation which seemed lost and forgotten. “Honestly bro, I don’t remember anything. I have been trying almost the whole day.”

“Anything?! What’s the last thing you remember then?” Darius was quite perplexed

Gaurav

Prior to the lone wolf's approach towards the family household, he had since parted ways with Ulysses upon reaching the village's edge. The burly wolf giving a friendly farewell and his blessings to Lady Annabelle. A blessing given with a multitude of meaning behind it; none pleasant, reminding him all the more of his mother and how much he dreaded her reaction. The heinous thought sat at the back of his mind; a tiny speck burning furiously.

Menzai appreciated his old mentor’s kind words though they only served fuel to the turmoil roiling like an endless storm at the pit of his stomach. Inwardly, his mind had been a nonstop whirlwind of thoughts of the group, what happened, how to proceed and more up until the moment Ulysses placed him down.

Almost as if the comfort of the earth beneath his feet was able to sooth him. His mind cleared; finally becoming calm, but that speck still seethed and sparked, almost cackling.

Thank you, Sir Ulysses. We can only be thankful that no harm befell the village. And will be certain to give your blessings.” Responded the tired wolf, grateful nevertheless.

A snorting huff from the huge wolf, a dismissive wave of the hand.” Enough with the platitudes. Get on with ya. Not like either of us are gonna have an easy night.” The man rubbed at his beard slightly soaked in booze with a half amused and half nervous chuckle.” You take it easy..er while you can.” Rubbing the back of his head before giving Menzai his usual pat on the shoulder.

A usual gesture that would normally not faze the wolf unintentionally pushed Menzai down to his knee.

Agh! Bloody moon sake! I di-.. It slipped my mind!” He quickly scrambled to help Menzai back up.

Menzai raised his right hand in a hold-off motion and after affording himself a few seconds to reorient himself, got himself back up to his feet.” There is no need for apologies. In fact, I am thankful for it.” A small bow of the head.” Till next we meet, my old friend.

Without another word, he turned to depart, making his way into the village leaving the bewildered Ulysses to his reporting task. Rolling the shoulder that had been patted as he went.* That shock was just what I needed to discern how much my body’s center of gravity was disrupted.* From there, the solution was easy, but for the time being he would need to keep his motions simple. Merely even walking did much to help; unfortunate his body was so exhausted which would delay, however. He desired to rest, but still had far much to do.

With the knowledge that the group was in Phia’s hand gave him a small bit of relief. Leaving them in her care, Menzai spent some time checking in on the village folks. Doing so to both ensure them the threat had been dealt with and to comfort them regarding the visitors.

Upon doing so, he came to hear of how Phia and the brothers had comforted them earlier. Pleasing news it was to hear for Menzai.

He explained and assured them they were friendly and the matter of the blood was to do with a special plant. Seeing the villagers relieved and satisfied faces as they gave their blessings and love did much to comfort and rejuvenate the injured wolf. Tough and awkward it was on top of it.

After checking in on Sonia, the current head healer of Gaurav having taken the position in place of Annabelle, Menzai since the year of the incident.

Sonia Ichinoke-
Current leader and most capable healer of the Gaurav tribe, twin sister (and slightly older by a few seconds) of Senia Ichinoke. Even among the long line of skilled wolves the Ichinoke family have produced, Sonia has proven especially adept at her knowledge of healing medicine; only surpassed by the family Freylesca family's personal recipe. A woman normally gentle in nature does share a bit of her younger sister’s temperament. At least when it comes to dealing with healing and finds repeated patients most cumbersome. Save for the less inclined, children and Phia where she would otherwise be a gentle sweetheart, to others only wrath awaits the foolish.

As expected, the woman was far from pleased or happy to see the so-called guardian in such an awful state. Her concern and anger were warranted; not only for her sake but for what he has and will put his family and the humans through. A bitter, but grateful exchange.

One Menzai could only escape through a check-up and promise made to Phia regarding dinner. Aughtwise, the still recovering wolf finds himself stuck at her healing center for the night.

The departure would end on a tender note-

Wait.” A caring hand gently grabbed hold of Menzai’s remaining hand, halting him before he could depart.” What I said…no, how I said it and….forgive me. It’s just…when I heard what happened… to the boys….sweet Phi… to… you.” Her gentle grip tensed tightly around Menzai, her normally confident and warm voice trembled; putting all her feelings into it, sharing as much of her with him as she could.” They will come to rely on you going forward. So, please.” Pausing, struggling and wrestling to say the words.” Please be strong and do whatever it takes to keep them safe. That is the oath you’ve sworn, yes?” A reminder she tried to say through teasing snark.

Words meant motivation, but they rang hollow. The tears flowing down her cheeks displaying grief and hesitation laced with hidden cruelty; only painful truths lie hidden past.

A few seconds reprieve; thinking over what was shared. The purpose understood; appreciated while the ember frothed. He returned the gesture with a gentle squeeze.” Thank you for the kind words. Your concerns will surely do well in soothing Phia’s mood.

Slipping his hand free, Menzai quietly departed.

And through the scents of the group’s recent passing towards the direction of their home, his destination was made.

His foot brushes a wilting flower. A dew droplet dripping, reflecting the moon. A lunar tear shatters.

The trek would not be an overtly long one; from the center of the village the Isanami household is twenty minutes out through one of the multiple lightly forested paths; all kept cleared of roots and other troublesome objects, but otherwise nature was left alone.

Among the family households, the Isanami is the furthest out from the main portion of Gaurav, where it was practically on the borders into the forest. This afforded them the most privacy while still being within short distance in the wolven tribe’s eyes at the very least.

Breaching through the end of the path, Menzai came upon home at least. There, he paused; taking in the sight, his ears perked catching the sound of footsteps and familiar voices from within.

A certain pair of humans, however, were missing. This was concerning, but they likely had their reasons. There was much to discuss though they will have to wait till tomorrow.

Having thought over this, Menzai decided to take a moment to admire his family’s home long-standing rumored since the founding of the village.

Sitting nestled in a wide oval clearing at the back center that sat on the fringes of the forest stood the Isanami home. One that carried age, history and care while living in harmony with nature around it.

And sitting directly behind it, the back of the building seemingly one with the massive and mighty tree that stood tall even amongst this ancient forest. Long has it sat, watching over Gaurav; tended to by the Isanami bloodline through many generations. On most nights, the tree sits silent, but on the nights of the full moon a spectacle, a beacon and magical delight occurs. The Lunar rebirth festival, always a joyous night to beheld and shared by all among the forest.

A home that could be nothing but inviting and always made any that stepped within feel welcomed, the natural earthy scent kept muted mixed with the muted pleasant scent of whatever each individual found calming. A wonderful gift from the tree to help ease one’s discomforts. The decor and furniture were tribal with wolven trinkets and fur pelts with a huge blending of nature. So much so, that one can easily mistake this cottage belonging closer to a Fairy’s household.

Not too different from Phia’s room, animals and critters were allowed about as long as they were not being bothersome or in the way. Most tend to stay away from two particular rooms as if they can sense it best to be left alone. (This is forgotten whenever Phia decides to pay her brother’s room a visit)

Fitting to be taken into the Isanami family with Annabelle, who, even without blood relations could just as well be her actual mother. Among all women, no other could match Anna’s gentleness and motherly nature. There was not a person in the village that did not know of her nor any that did not like her. Such features Phia easily shared naturally; too much to the older brother’s annoyance. Her expertise and knowledge blended in her charms and potions was unmatched even within the Freylesca line and among the village; the previous head healer until the incident took place. Where, since then she has retired to being a mother, with a newborn son mere weeks away.

While Anna once excelled and since settled down, Josiah Isanami, who though less skilled like his beloved or among his family line. He made up for in dedication to keeping the council up to date and running efficiently. Especially knowing the head elder’s irksome tendencies. Similar to his son, he is a more reserved individual that is easily outshone by Anna’s shining motherly personality. Sharing a love of study and understanding of magic, the two researched numerous times together in the earlier years. Unlike his son, he does express emotion while controlling himself to a somewhat better degree.

Trinity………..

…..

……..

Exhaling slowly, eyes blinking away whatever memories the tired wolf had drifted off into these brief few seconds. The reprieve over, Menzai took another deep breath with a weary sigh.

Inside was Phia with Viola and Cyrus with Dante and Darius currently out as he already learned. To his shock and partial relief, he would learn that his mother was sleeping after receiving a frightful scare from the Roc’s shriek. He was thankful to know she was well with plenty of rest all that was needed.

Menzai was afforded another form of reprieve, if minor for in place of dealing with such trauma, instead had an guilt ridden little sister overly concerned clinging to him. A lesser evil for the night; one he did not mind enduring and as such felt no need to stop her, other than small nudges when she got a bit *too* overbearing. If this helped her even a little as it would have to do.

He had no wish to put her or any of the group through any more painful talks that night. Leaving it be, he went the night reading a book or playing small board games.

It was not too long before his usually boundlessly energy filled sister drifted off to sleep. This left him the peace and quiet needed to meditate and recover.

A session that would be cut short upon hearing the visiting siblings step their way outside. His ears flicked to their voices. The lack of distance they made from the house was an amusing note even to the near humorless wolf.

Not surprising and with it came just the opportunity. This wolf, ever curious, had many questions and had long wished to discuss with them.

Doing so with Phia asleep was his chance to take care of a problem that if left alone could lead to dire consequences. Just the mere glimpses of the two had him concerned; them being her sibling likely true, but whether their intent with her was genuine was an uncertainty.

An uncertainty he could not allow.

Making sure and double-checking that Phia was asleep (also shifting her into a more comfortable position with a blanket placed with brotherly care) Menzai quietly exited from the cottage.

From there, finding the visitors was a simple task. Though listening in on others was something he did not much care for, it was necessary at times. Thankfully, training allowed the wolf tribe to control such to a certain degree.

The unease the siblings gave him left him little choice, particularly the sister. While he desired to discuss with them; a better understanding of what the pair were about before doing so might be best.

Doing so could prove to have trust between them become more difficult. As such, he would signal to the guards to leave without revealing themselves.

Whatever would be said this night. Secrets or more would stay between the three of them, for the time being.

His decision made, the lone wolf quietly stalked his way behind a tree a short distance from the two fairies. Careful to avoid giving himself away. Hiding within the trees might have been his usual method, but the state of his body did not allow the risk, nor did he want take the chance of waking his sleeping sister.

Back to th bark of the tree, the rough bumpiness of the bark acting as a comforting wall. There, he remained still with ears perked; flicking even to their hushed whispers though Menzai being more skilled than most could better choose what to block or not which he used to prevent overhearing anything personal.

Silently, the shadow lurked.

Normally, Viola would have preferred to keep her own thoughts to herself, but the conflicting opinions and her emotions in check was starting to get hard for Viola. The frustration of knowing her beloved sister did not remember her only fed the negative emotions that seemed to always be present after the time she spent as a prisoner in Daka Island... Due to that frustration breaking the delicate balance inside Viola's mind, more and more she saw herself falling to such dark thoughts, such as how Ophelia was the one to blame for having forgotten about her, how she shouldn't be exempt from the suffering both her and Cyrus felt... Such thoughts had gotten to the point that she felt she had to talk to her brother, worried that she might do something.

"I don't know how should I feel, brother Cyrus... It's getting... difficult... to deal with the frustration and keep my thoughts under control... It's hard to view this in anything but a negative way..." Viola said, with a deep, exhausted sigh.

"I do care deeply about our little sister. To see she is still the same cheerful, kind and sweet girl we know makes me... Satisfied... While knowing she doesn't remember us is incredibly frustrating, just knowing she is okay is good... Far from ideal... but still better than not knowing where she is or knowing she might be dead. But my other half..." Viola said, her face growing darker as she continued.

"The other half wonders why does she deserve happiness while we suffered so much... while I suffered so much! Why does she have the right to forget about us when we never gave up or forgotten about her!! While I was a prisoner in Daka, while my hopes of being rescued by someone... by anyone who remembered and cared about me were crushed, she was living happily like nothing wrong had ever happened... What makes her so special? What makes her different from the rest of us?" Viola said, the words coming out like a torrent, something that was very rare and unlike of her. In a similar manner, while Cyrus might be already accustomed to her usual apathetic behavior and lack of consideration, and sometimes even cruelty, to anything and anyone that didn't concern her, the amount of negative feelings in her words were much more intense... and worrying.

"There is nothing more I want than having my dear siblings back... I deeply care about Ophelia... But I don't know what to do... It's getting hard to ignore those thoughts and I-" Viola continued, before hesitating as she felt someone approached them.

Before she could continue talking though, a voice interrupted them, making Viola quickly turn towards it, alarmed. As Menzai walked towards them, Viola's eyes were like daggers as she looked at him, not knowing if she had heard her words or not. If the entire situation with Ophelia wasn't already frustrating enough, to be watched upon, heard and treated like a prisoner only made it even harder for Viola to keep calm.

"It is not a pleasant feeling... Both to be watched and treated like a prisoner and to be interrupted in the middle of a personal talk with your sibling..." Viola said, looking to Menzai with sharp, cold eyes as the vines from the blood rose shifted and tightened uncomfortably around her, clearly aggravated by Menzai's presence.

"I have nothing more to say... Other than what you have already heard." Viola finished, glancing towards Cyrus, silently asking for Cyrus to lead the conversation, should Menzai inquire any further about what he heard.

Amisra emerged on the deck, her movements a bit slower than usual. Her ribs twinged with each step, a constant reminder of the recent brawl. Ignoring the dull ache, she headed towards the ropes, her hands moving to assist with hoisting the sails. Tanithil's proclamation about the Captain's map and their new destination had stirred a sense of anticipation in her, overriding the pain.

As she worked on the sails, her gaze flickered toward the mysterious woman who was now part of their crew. Amisra had managed to learn a few things about her. The woman was skilled in healing arts and she guessed she had a story as complex as the knots Amisra deftly tied. With a wry smile, she couldn't help but marvel at the intricate web of lies they had spun to keep Sirena onboard, with Arlen playing his part to Amisra’s relief.

She glanced over at Tanithil, who stood confidently at the helm, and couldn't shake the worry that tightened her chest. He may have addressed his concern for her before, but she was well aware of his tendency to shoulder burdens alone. It was her best friend's heart to protect, and it was something she understood all too well.

Amisra pushed through the discomfort, working harder than she probably should, a distraction from the ache of her broken ribs. The Saltrunner began to glide through the water, the anticipation of a new adventure mingling with the salty breeze. In the end, she was a pirate, and no injury, no matter how painful, would keep her from sailing towards the promise of treasure and the unknown.

Slivers of warm pink light peeked through the cracks of the cargo hold ceiling. They hit the dull brown wood of the many crates stacked there, until they reflected off of something. It was a shimmering glass case. Inside was a piece of precious cargo, or so captain Blackclaw believed. The captain made a deal to deliver a non operational Warforged to a trader on the other side of the Eastern sea. He was paid a good amount of amas up front so did not question the deal. In all his years of travel he'd never come across this particular kind of Warforged. He had his crew put her in a case, to display the craftsmanship of her creator.

The setting sun seemed to be beckon the Warforged back to life. Masako awake slowly from her state of rest, indicated by the increasing glow of blue in her eye sockets. Feeling her extremities spring back into function she carefully pushed open the door of her display case.

Masako let out an airless sigh and brushed off the dust from her embroidered yukata style dress. Getting on a ship proved yet another challenge of many on her journey to find her wards. It took Masako three days to secure travel by ship, facing continued rejection. While staying in the ports of Roshmi she became acquainted with a demi human trader. He took pity on her after hearing her story and arranged for this deal with captain Blackclaw.

It would be good to draw in some fresh air. The cargo space was incredibly dusty and humid. After some aimless wandering Masako eventually reached the deck. Her footsteps made a distinct click clacking sound, produced by the wooden sandals she was wearing. Masako glanced around, debating her next move. The Warforged looked painfully out of place.

“I knew you’d be back, kid.”

The village blacksmith’s voice was harsh, but his words were affable and teasing. Scathael’s ears twitched as an involuntary show of his annoyance at the interruption. He didn’t respond, pretending to hear nothing, and instead focused his attention on the partially-disassembled musket neatly laid out on the workbench in front of him.

It was an interesting weapon. Certainly more interesting than whatever inane chatter the leonine smith had just attempted to coax him into, at any rate. A wheellock firearm, the musket was an interesting oddity at a time when almost every gunsmith in Avalia seemed to favour the more modern snaplock mechanism. And for good reason; a snaplock was simpler and cheaper to manufacture, easier to maintain, and much faster to load. Everything any gunsmith or gunner looked for in a weapon. At least, that was what the dwarf who had sold Scathael the musket had said. The dark elf hadn’t any reason to doubt the merchant’s words, not when he had been so eager to get rid of the thing that he accepted the robber’s price Scathael had offered with relief instead of complaint.

“Aye, our wee village just has a charm few can resist.” A different voice – this one belonged to the village’s chief huntsman, Scathael recognised – spoke. His words came out smoother, and carried a smile within its melodic and lilting tone. “But truly, it’s good to see you again, Scathael. You did good things for us last time you were around. Don’t suppose we could convince you to stay? I know my wee Vallana here would love it if you decided to stick around longer. You should’ve seen how mopey she was while you were gone.”

Perched on a high stool beside Scathael, the vulpine girl sputtered. “F-Father, s-stop it,” she protested in a whine, almost dropping the brass plate she was polishing. Scathael placed a hand on her back, preventing her from completely losing her balance, though it was more out of concern for the plate than it was for the girl's safety.

Aside from that minor action – which wasn’t enough to get him to look away from his task – Scathael didn’t pay the huntsman’s question any heed. There were still plenty of tiny and easy-to-lose components dotting the tabletop, and the flickering lamplight made them cast dancing shadows that confused even Scathael’s keen eyes. Missing even one of them would render the musket useless. He had to be careful in putting the thing back together. Senseless talk was a distraction he wouldn’t, and couldn’t, allow.

“Interesting firelock you’ve got there, by the way.” The blacksmith was, if nothing else, persistent. “I haven’t seen a wheellock in ages. I think that’s what you’ve got, at least. You’ve done plenty of strange work to it, I can tell. Can’t say I understand what for, however.”

That brought the ghost of a smile to Scathael’s lips as he popped the firing mechanism back into its carved slot in the stock. Few could discern his intentions for the musket from just a glance, and that was always a source of pride for him. It was a vanity, he knew, and certainly one borne from his pride for his work, but it was one of the few which he allowed himself.

He secured the mechanism firmly into place with a handful of screws, then held out his hand. Vallana gave him the brass plate, and he similarly fastened it to the butt of the musket. After giving everything a forceful tug to make sure all was right, he raised the weapon and aimed it towards the night sky. A push and swing of the trigger guard forward tightened a spring within. He returned the trigger guard to its original position, and squeezed the trigger. The quiet whirr of a steel wheel spinning at speed inside the mechanism was all Scathael needed to know that all was well.

Satisfied, he lowered the weapon and finally turned to face the two men sitting with him in the front yard of the blacksmith’s home and shop.

“May I?” The blacksmith asked and held out a hand. Scathael shrugged and passed him the musket. The blacksmith turned the weapon over, looked down its sights, and felt its heft. “Impressive, I’ve to say. I can’t recall the last time I handled a wheellock that wasn’t on its last legs. This feels very well-crafted.”

Vallana beamed. “I helped!”

She had really only handled parts which Scathael had given her. None of them were essential to the basic functioning of the musket. However, the dark elf kept that information to himself. He couldn’t bring himself to, especially not after hearing the joy in her tone and seeing the wide smile stretching across her face. He might be a dour grouch of a dark elf, but even he wasn’t immune to the innocence of a child.

“Yes,” he said simply. “You did.”

“But I have to ask,” the blacksmith continued. “Why not just get a snaplock? It’d save you all this trouble to keep this antique in working order.”

“A snaplock’s easily doused by rain. A wheellock doesn’t have that problem,” Scathael replied. “I simplified the mechanism. Reduced the number of parts by more than half, re-built the entire mechanism as a single block that’s easier to remove, and–” he pulled his chair forward and pointed to a segmented portion at the rear of the barrel. “–made it a breechloader. Makes it easier and faster to load. You also tension the spring by operating the trigger guard, which makes it even faster to fire. I’d say this thing fires at least five times faster than a regular muzzle-loading musket. It still needs work, however. It’s less powerful than a regular musket of the same length.”

“Less powerful, he says,” the huntsman repeated with a chuckle. “Unless you’re planning to hunt a dragon or shoot through a solid block of steel, I don’t think the difference would matter.”

“Who knows?” Scathael regarded the man with a deadpan expression. “I might run into a steel dragon one of these days and wish I had something that could hurt it.” Vallana gasped, and so he clicked his tongue and quickly added, “It’s a joke. Only dragons I’ve ever heard of are made of scale and blood. Bad manners and worse houseguests, though, I’ve heard that too.”

The blacksmith snickered and shook his head. “Don’t worry, Vallana. He’s only being half-serious.” Holding out the musket in front of him, he gave it an approving nod. “In all honesty, you did fine work with this one, Scathael. You’ve taken a wheellock and turned it into something a snaplock could only dream of. I’ve only got one other question, however. Why do you carry a bow on your person if you’ve already got such a fine piece of weaponry?”

“The bow’s for hunting,” Scathael replied simply. “I want my prey dead, not its meat obliterated.”

At that, the huntsman guffawed. “See? This dark elf understands! If you want a good cut of meat, it’s bolts and arrows you’ll have to use.” He gave the blacksmith a hard, but friendly slap on the back and turned to Scathael. “Truly, Scathael, you should stay. We could do with another smith in this wee village of ours, and I don’t think anyone would complain. We live simply here. You’d have a nice, peaceful life, I imagine. After spending the time I assume you do on the road, that should sound quite pleasant, aye?”

Scathael exhaled slowly through his nose. The huntsman was right; it did sound great to his ears. Deep in his heart, however, he knew that it would only ever be a dream. The chance for him to settle down passed a long time ago, along with the one person he likely would have ever settled down with.

The features of her face fading from memory. Yet still beautiful enough to warm his heart. “So.” Her voice, so clear in his head. “What do you think? This place would make a nice home, I think.” A smile on his face, and one on hers. The rest of the world falling away. Joy. Expectation. Anticipation. All filling his body. And then a flash. In the cave once more. Fear clawing at his heart. Regret sapping his strength. A body, broken beneath rocks. A scrawled apology, red ink darkened to brown. Pain. Tears. Anguish.

Scathael shook his head and blinked that vision away. Then, he cleared his throat. “Thanks, but I’m going to have to decline.” He turned back around to pack up his tools. “It’s not for me.”

The moment the misfit party of would-be manticore slayers got to Aerilyn’s camp, Thraash took off. He had said something along the lines of “I'll be back.” before walking along a dirt path leading deep into the wilds on his own. He was quite sure there'd be no argument with his decision, and if there was, he couldn't give two shits. No one was going to stop him from getting the fresh alaberries he wanted before the Nest went batshit, even if he had to pick them himself.

Picking alaberries beneath the warm sun might have been a pleasure to most but Thraash had the worst luck finding the sweet red berries that helped fuel his Muse Tank amplifier. Venturing back and asking for assistance from one of the others was a viable option but he felt it would make him look soft in front of the noobs.

“I’ll just fucking do this the long way.” Thraash stopped in his tracks and took a look around at his surroundings while testing out his sense of smell. His nostrils flared several times as his snout fixed in one direction at a time. What was he doing now?

“Yeah, this is it. Smells wet this way. Hehehe, I wish it wasn’t simply a stream.” Thraash was all but subtle as he set out toward the water source, trudging roughly between trees and brush while making all manner of sounds. CRUNCH. CRACK. He'd already wasted too much daylight and would sacrifice any manner of noise discipline to reach his destination. He was sure there would be questions for him upon his return but the others would have simply mind their own damned businesses!

“There!” Thraash smirked as he caught sight of a stream running steadily through the woods. A light cackle escaped him as he detached his Muse Tank from his pants. “Time to get your fill.”

—-

Hours later…

Thraash had arrived back at the camp shortly after Mari, following the scent of the freshly cooked stew that wafted from Aerilyn’s pot. In his grip was a thick fallen branch ignited in flame. It had been the third torch he had made on his way back due to how quickly his flames burned through the dry wood. As he approached, he used his rough-scaled hands to grind what was left of the enflamed branch, putting it out with a few wrist movements.

“‘Bout damn time you got somethin’ good on the flame. ‘Specially after you got us all kicked out of the fucking Nest for fighting. I mean… Who the fuck gets kicked out of the Nest FOR FIGHTING?! Us! That’s who. You damned scrubs.” Thraash complained as he proceeded to the pot until he was towering over it. He couldn’t deny its savory contents that would rest within his belly in mere moments. Snatching the ladle, he looked it over before eyeing the pot again.

He immediately noticed that drew the attention of a disapproving Aerilyn and chuckled.

“Chill, Ears! I’m not gonna put my mouth on the thing.” He set the ladle down and simply grabbed the sides of the pot and lifted it to his maw, attempting to gulp down the stew from the pot.

For the first time since his wings were severed Bowyn flew. Not of his own accord, but upon the back of the pegasus Starfire. He kept a carefree grip on the horse; a fear of falling was such an unnatural instinct for his kind when flying was learned alongside walking. The Fae were creatures of both the earth and sky. The earth provided for them, it offered stability, but it was the skies that offered freedom and the clarity of fresh perspective. The ability to soar high above the earth’s problems, to look down from such heights and see how small everything was by comparison, always able to see the bigger picture.

That was what had been stolen from Bowyn, more than just wings, but limitless freedom, a loftier perspective, and to never fear falling for fairies were gifted with wings they could always trust. It was a loss that could never be fully explained to creatures born only for the earth, what it was to lose access to the skies. Even to soar with the aid of a pegasus was a cold reminder that this was not a part of Bowyn’s world any longer.

Still, he was grateful for a small taste of what he once had; to see the vastness of the sea stretch out and the ship shrink away below them. To share the skies for a moment with Rue and the mighty pegasus away from strange faces. Although the ship Luum had picked out was about as nice as a boat could be, it was still far from the ideal place for either winter fairy or the horse. Bowyn got the sense that Starfire greatly appreciated the chance to fly free, the winged creature needed to fly as much as she needed to run, and above the sea at least drew less attention than a crowded city.

“Thanks, Rue, this is much better than trapped aboard that ship. Bardulf did well for his first encounter with an owlbear. Although Luum’s training method, if you can call it training, hold back and hope the human figures things out, it’s concerning.” Bowyn focused his attention on Rue, there was no need to guide the pegasus who followed Rue naturally with no need for correction.

Time: Evening
Location: Gaurav Village: Phia’s Room
Interactions: Viola@13org, Menzai@samreaper
Equipment: A pack with some supplies, seeds (in his pockets), a small knife, a mask that hangs from his belt, a weapon with a shifting charm that is either a sickle or a glaive, and a shield/drum with an unbreakable charm.

Frustrating; it was a good word for the bittersweet reunion. Of course, it was wonderful to know Ophelia lived, had found a place that welcomed and loved her, and was kept safe from so much of the pain that existed outside the secluded village. But it hurt to be forgotten, a pain that must be so sharp for Viola who was left forgotten by all that knew her during her imprisonment. Even if Phia’s life was not as idyllic as it appeared, she was not alone. In his suffering, Cyrus had not been alone. But Viola had suffered alone. Although Cyrus glanced in Menzai’s direction when Viola mentioned an intruder, he did not yet acknowledge the wolf, Viola got his undivided attention.

“I do not believe she chose to forget, but that does not make it hurt any less, does it?” Cyrus spoke once Viola had finished, a question that needed no answer, as his eyes fixed upon the twin moons above them. There was a great deal of suffering, but no true culprit for it here. Phia and her fractured mind were not the true cause of it, only symptoms of horrors inflicted by the Dark Elves. Something deeply buried flared and burned as he thought of the children of Halastra and what they had done to his family. His hand rested upon the mask that dangled from his belt until the feeling was again buried. Then he again looked only at his sister.

“Few have suffered as you have suffered, and fewer still could carry it with your strength and grace. I would have wilted had I been in your place. I faltered and stumbled along my path, a fate far kinder than yours. Though you never left my mind, I did not take action for you either, and that is worse. For my part in your fate, I have only shame to carry and a humbled offering of sorrow. And I am sorry Viola, for how deep your pain runs and my part in that. You deserved better.” He spoke as if Menzai did not lurk in the shadows, words Cyrus knew he should’ve said before now. Few things were harder to give voice to than guilt and shame, and what was more shameful than how little effort he had put forth to locate his siblings before now?

“If your thoughts are hard to ignore, then explore them. They ask for your attention, they will not settle without it. I will always listen, you will never be judged by me.”

Cyrus then turned to greet Menzai with a respectful bow. Where Viola might understandably see this wolf as a stranger, an intruder on a family discussion, Cyrus saw Menzai in a different light. This wolf threw himself to the mercy of the indifferent hands of fate simply to protect Phia. The wolf lost an arm but very well could’ve lost his life. Menzai protected Phia like family, and so now the wolf was as dear, and as trusted, as family.

“Noble wolf, you have my deepest gratitude for all you have done for our sister, Ophelia. You know who she is, the crest she wears even if she has forgotten where it came from. Our secrecy is an unfortunate necessity, our family name is dangerous to speak of; many wish us dead. Many have tried. I do not wish to continue hiding the truth from Phia but I believe you now know her better than we do, so I request your guidance. Do we tell Phia who we are, who she is, and possibly bring her pain? Or leave her in ignorance and spare her the pain of knowing what happened to her family?” If anyone could best predict how Phia would react, it was the wolf before then, and Cyrus knew he could trust that Menzai held Phia’s best interests above all else.

Gaurav

Both Viola's tone and words were strong and clear signs her mood were far from approachable. Listening, to his chagrin; from it learning much of the tortured fairy. He could almost hear the mixture of pain and frustration, but love still remained. The wolf, in his solitude could understand the jealousy wrought from unfair circumstances.

Such tragic fracturing of a once proud and beloved family. Separation. Suffering. All traits shared across each sibling present. Whether they be known or in ignorance.

After overhearing a brief portion of a conversation concerning such personal matters, did Menzai choose to reveal himself. Stepping forward, having decided lurking only served to insult the pair, though stopping a fait eight steps distance, giving them the space hoped best comfortable for them.

Saying nothing; his typical near blank face expression showing a calm, but serious determination. Ears perked, his demonstration that he would merely hear, not intrude. His previous actions ensuring none but the three standing in this field beneath the pristine twin moon glow, a shroud of secrecy.

Menzai listened as the two spoke on, Viola's hostile energy evident both in her words and the visual threatening of the blood seeped vines enshrouding her body, almost a protective blanket as much as vicious armor. They did much to help him picture the cruel solitude she must have endured.

By the end of Viola's portion of unloading how she felt and could not blame the jealousy she held towards Phia. Yet, while conflicted she still held to the good part of herself. But, as he knew he had no right to get involved nor did he intend to delve into either sibling's past. Though the best chance of helping her also heavily relied on helping Phia in the future.

With a watchful eye and somewhat softer approach was the best way to ensure the two joins the pack. For the pack's most potential and for Phia's happiness. With these always the principle two thoughts driving all of the wolf's actions and with what his previous mistake cost him now adding to his experience. Acting in haste both in action and words needed be handled with caution. And one with Viola's conflicted temperament pertaining importance on caution particularly.

Thankfully, Sir Cyrus proved more sound of mind who could understand her sister's pleas, conflicted amongst a myriad of thoughts behind them. Menzai would bow his head in return to the kind, greeting words. The brother likely experienced their own hardships though his capability to hide his trauma showed he would be easier to befriend.

Or leave her in ignorance and spare her the pain of knowing what happened to her family?”

One of the two important questions he expected be asked came and from their end which had the wolf grateful. Better it had been asked from their part, the taut tension already bad enough.

Menzai remained silent; gazing at the two for a few seconds longer after the question was given, then his eyes that had surprisingly not blinked once if either had been paying attention. Even when his eyes stung; only now affording him this moment of clarity to think the best way to answer.

His eyes opened after a deliberate slow inhale; taking in the fresh breeze and whispering encouragement of the forest." Before I can give my answer, I wish to extend the many platitudes and apologies from Gaurav and from me." Bowing his head to the siblings each in turn." Had your timely intervention not occurred, the risk and possible harm that may have fallen my village could have been nothing but nightmares. The combined efforts of you all have instead, left no casualties. And Sir Ulysses will be punished for his wrongful treatment." Each word said with a calm and stern tone, that would briefly soften with his expression. Above all else, every word spoke was said with sincerity." I do ask to be a bit lenient. Considering the unfortunate timing surrounding the situation."

His posture would straighten up a bit more as he faced Viola before continuing." And I wish to ensure that all said and discussed here will not be shared by anyone. Please be assured that I have no intention of prying into your histories. Where you came from or what you have done prior to the village matters not to me. As long as no harm is brought to my village then I need nothing save but ask for two favors." Pausing as he held up two clawed fingers of his right hand as he stated this to let them take in his words.

" The first favor is also my answer. For, as frustrating and painful as these words will be...I must request keeping Phia's memory secret from her." The words came out almost strained. The mere thought of denying the sweet fairy left in forced ignorance angered him to no end, only the slight clenching of his fist and strained words the only signs he let slip.

But only for now.

" And my second request is if such a day something extreme occurs that, in the end, be left to Phia to decide if she wishes to regain her memories." The wolf quieted down, doing so as he was uncertain of how the two would react to his requests.

The older brother had his reasons and wanted to let it be clear he had no intention of letting whatever or whoever took away an innocent child's memories be a kept secret from him.

After giving the siblings take in what he said he would cut in." I know these requests are not easy, certainly said through heavy heart. Of which, for Phia's safety I must refrain from elaborating among personal reasons. Having said this, allow me to answer some questions to help soothe the unpleasant moods."

His ear flicked in the direction of the house; catching sound of Phia shifting in her sleep; concerned she might wake with his absence and the exhaustion still heavy in his body." And while I know there are many questions between us. However, since neither party has built up proper trust at this moment. Not to mention the long day we have had, the healing while helped still leaves me greatly tired."

A small nod of the head, a tired sigh." Allow me to answer any two questions you may have in the hopes to satisfy everyone for the night? Two may not seem like much, but one thing to understand about demi-wolves and us Gaurav, especially so is that we always approach things honestly. Whether said or kept, we do not delve nor ask, but when offered we listen and requested aid. And we do so without personal bias or greed. Cautious at first just as you are towards us, but once friendship is made, whatever we have we give."

Observing the two the entire time he spoke and explained; curious of what they thought, how they felt and more." However, it is up to my discretion whether I choose to answer or not, but as I said we are honest. So, whether Sir Cyrus and Lady Viola wishes to ask a question each or ask both, that I leave up to you."

Holding up his pointer finger indicating he had something important to say." I advise taking great consideration in the questions you ask." His words hinting more meaning behind his advice." I shall await here long as needed." Quietly, the wolf stepped away, this time leaving them their actual privacy to discuss. When ready they need merely signal or whistle.

Time: Morning
Location: Helm of the Saltrunner
Mentions: The Entire Pirate Crew

The past day was certainly a strange one. Tanithil mulled over the events briefly in his mind as he steered the ship. This newcomer, Sirena, had stowed away on the ship, and normally would’ve been simply thrown overboard. But her aiding Amisra when she did earned major brownie points in Tanithil’s eyes. She could have just as easily harmed her while she was vulnerable, and that certainly scared Tanithil at first. He decided to go along with Amisra’s plan to bring on the crew as well as made sure to stick to their cover story. At some point Arlen had become privy to it all as well, which gave him some slight relief as the man was good at picking apart Tanithil’s tall tales.

The time for reflection came and went, as they began to hit the more aggressive waters of the sea. Tanithil’s hand gripped on the steering column as he let out a list of orders for the crew. He shouted for the deckhands to make sure the remaining supplies were secured to the deck or down below, so that nothing flew overboard. Tanithil yelled up to the crow’s nest for their scout to alert him of anything major. He turned back to the small group of younger pirates the crew dubbed “The Galley Goshers” and told them to start working on meal prep for dinner in the mess hall. Once the majority of the crew began to do their work, he began to address the ‘stars’ of the crew.

”Right then. Let’s see what else needs doin’...Arlen! You think you could watch the sails for me? Try and keep em upwind as best ya can so we can get a fast trip through these waters. Would hate to run into trouble so early on.”

He began to steer in the proper course based on his map, and took a moment to place the steering lock in place so the ship wouldn’t errantly turn while he took a step back from the wheel. ”Ismael. I’d like you to come take a look at this ‘er map. If you’re going to be livin’ amongst us it could do you some good to pick up some navigational skills. Once we land in the desert area we’ll also look into practicing some of your magic since you’ll be in your element. None of your flame shit on board though or so help me I’ll tie ya to the front of the ship and let the waves douse your flames.” Tanithil spoke half-joking and half serious, seeing how he didn’t want a fire on his first major expedition on the Saltrunner.

His attention shifted as he noticed Amisra wincing off to the side. He handed the map and went to the railing, looking over to her and speaking in his usual campy tone. ”And what do you think you’re doin outta bed, missy? You’ve got 3 good reasons to be takin’ it easy these next few days.” He said as his fingers trailed along his ribcage, mimicking the three bruised ribs of hers. His look shifted to that of slight concern but ultimately he knew he could do very little to keep this woman from adventuring. It was in her blood, and that certainly worried him more than it should. ”Stay on deck and try to keep an eye out for anything the scout might miss - but no heavy liftin’!” His eyes narrowed as he went back to make sure the wheel of the ship was still steady.

”And for our newest star of the show, I’d like you to simply observe how we run things ‘round here. Try to get a grip of how things flow and ebb on these Avalian waters. If someone suddenly comes up with some form of injury I’ll ask you for some triage advice, seein’ how we don’t have much of a healer ‘side from the Captain.” He stopped barking orders and resumed navigating with Ismael likely at his side.

The Captain had expressed his interest in letting Tanithil hold the reins for a spell. Something about finding a “proper first mate”. So he shrugged it off and took on the duties that came with it. But it was certainly a strange role to fill, and he had his curiosities for why the Captain suddenly wanted to take a back seat for something that could very well hold the fate of the entire country. He decided it might be best to do some snooping later, and see just what he could be up to. For now he spoke once more to the crew.

”Alllllright you gits! We’ve got about a 5 days travel ahead of us. So don’t be doing anything nutty till we make landfall then please and thank you! This’ll be the last bit of my voice you’ll hear for awhile so enjoy the peace n quiet while it lasts~!” He chuckled as he left the crew to do as they would, and hopefully stay somewhat within his orders.
