Introduction:

Seven-hundred years ago the Soul Society was plunged into darkness as the Gotei 13 broke out into war over a power lost to history. The Captain-Commander died, the Gotei 13 fell, and an unbalance of souls threatened to disrupt the universe.

Four hundred years ago two Shinigami emerged with an army of soul reapers both old and new. They were previous captains of Squad Ten and Eleven; rivals since the academy, they worked together to slaughter most of their opposition. In the final battle against the oppressor, the Kenpachi fell by protecting the Squad Ten Captain, allowing him to get the final blow and restore peace to the Soul Society.

It has been three hundred years since then, and the balance of souls has been restored and the Gotei 13 is growing stronger each year with higher numbers of recruits. Some say that this new class has more potential than any class in the past three hundred years. So, as new threats emerge, The Rise of The New Generation begins…

This roleplay is set in an alternative universe of Bleach where the original characters do not exist, however the clans remain the same. My goal is to expand on the world-building that’s influenced by the actions of the characters within the story.

Everyone will be starting off as UNSEATED Shinigami, fresh graduates after four years in the academy. This will give everyone the chance to progress equally, both in power and individual story arcs. Whatever the reason your character joined, there are rumors of a rebellion brewing within the Gotei 13 based on riots in Rukongai from the fiftieth district and beyond. There is also a steady increase of Hollows attacking in the Human World, and new leads have been found as to why. An incursion into Hueco Mundo left five Shinigami slaughtered, but the wounds didn’t resemble Hollow wounds. All three of these storylines will be able to be explored to start us off.

Posting

This is intended to be a Character-Driven game influenced by the actions of the characters. There will be a mixture of Round Posting and Free Posting depending on what Mode we are on.
Main Story:

This is where Round Posting will come into play. This is the bread and butter of the game, and where the plot moves forward. Round Posting is when I post once, you reply once. I post again, and you can reply again, and so on. This keeps the IC less cluttered. That’s not to say you can’t post more than once or have a reaction to another character’s post, just be wary that trying to do too many actions at once can decrease the chance of success.

My writing expectations for Round Posting is Once, maybe Twice, a week depending on engagement. I’m not requiring you to write a novella or even a paragraph. I understand we all may have limits on time, writer’s block, or even the fact that not every character has a reaction to everything. All I require is a cohesive post that takes action and helps push the narrative forward. Writers and Roleplayers of all levels are welcomed here, and exceptions can always be made.

Free Mode:

This is wind-down time in between main missions. This is where players are free to interact how they choose without GM interference, and this is where I largely encourage collaborating with one another to grow character relationships and show more about your character’s life outside of the Gotei 13. Side-missions will be given out here, as well as progression with player’s personal stories. This is also another cheeky way for your GM to have time to brew the next Main Story.

There will be a healthy mix of the two as both tie into the power system of the game. Characters will automatically level up and gain new abilities and attributes after every Main Story, a reward for helping progress the story. Free Mode is where things get more interesting as good roleplay moments, training posts, and NPC interactions can all earn rewards. These rewards will be given based on general consistency and if it makes sense in the story, so participation is heavily encouraged.

There will be a separate IC for the Main Story Missions to not restrict players from posting or collabing as freely as they like. The game will start off in Free Mode to get everyone acquainted with one another, and the setting.

Combat/Point System

Characters are able to start off with a Shikai up to four abilities to begin with. Abilities will come with Post Cooldowns. For example, if I have an ability that’s a simple slashing attack (Getsuga Tensho) then the ability cooldown will be two, so you would have to post two more times before you can use said ability again. This keeps combat orderly and reduces ability spam, and gives a fair pre-approved guideline on how to proceed if a PvP battle occurs. Post durations as well.

Example: “I get a power up and it lasts for five posts, with a six post cooldown.”

I’m giving leeway on powerful abilities as long as you can make it make sense, in the sense of cooldowns and drawbacks as well as narratively. So, in other words, let’s be creative but reasonable.

Players will be awarded points via level up or rewards. They are split into two groups; points for Zanpakuto abilities and points for attributes. Attributes are Hoho, Kido, Zanjutsu, and Hakudo. Attributes are ranked from Unseated level to Captain level and can be bought as the game proceeds, or used to create custom Attributes.

As for Zanpakuto abilities, say you earn 6 points after a Main Mission. You can use individual points (1) to upgrade existing abilities, or use 3 points to create an entirely new ability. This is further explained below.

You may only spend points during Free Mode, and you have until the next Main Mission to do so. You will be warned a week in advance before the next Main Mission begins, so you will have plenty of time to determine how you want to level up. You may also purposefully save your points. Any points earned in Free Mode while a Main Mission is active, will be awarded after the Main Mission is completed in order to ensure we’re remaining consistent power-wise.

I know this seems like a lot of information, but in practice it’ll be simple.
You may start off with every UNSEATED ability or pick and choose. For those who choose to learn these later, I will add their costs. You may learn Attributes higher than your current rank, but the cost is doubled as a result. Be aware, just because you know an ability of higher rank doesn’t mean you use it to the same efficiency as said rank.

It costs 3 Zanpakuto points in order to create a new ability. Individual points can be dumped into pre-existing abilities in order to increase power, efficiency, decrease cooldowns, and increase durations.

It costs 2 points for every cooldown post decrease (I spend 2 points to decrease fireball by one post). It costs 3 points for every post duration (I spend 3 points to increase my ability duration by one point). Power and efficiency upgrades will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Q&A

Q: Can I Die?
A: Simply put, yes. That’s not to say this will be a slaughter-fest but as you can kill your enemies, they can also kill and wound you. The Main Story requires you to be smart and use teamwork, actions have consequences so don’t do anything dumb like blindly rush in to strike the main villain and you’re unseated level. Think realistically, but take risks as well.

Q: Can I be a (Vizard, Quincy, Fullbringer, etc.)?
A: I don’t want anything to be a full on no as I encourage creativity. I’m always willing to hear an idea, but for the purpose of how the game starts everyone will be strictly Shinigami. PM me privately if you have ideas for things down the road regarding alternative or half races.

Q: How does the Shinigami Age work?
A: It’s surprisingly a question that gets asked a lot in Bleach RPs. It’s confusing but we’ll keep it simple and say add a 0 to whatever normal age they’d be. So if you were 19 you’d be 190. However, that’s for people born within the Spirit World compared to Human age. You can start as a Shinigami that died in the Human world, and go by normal human age. I encourage creativity in this aspect. However, age doesn’t play too much of a role in the spirit world.

Q: Can I have more than one character?
A: New players start off with one character only. As there are multiple squads and multiple storylines, multiple characters will be accepted down the line as we determine engagement.

Q: Can we join any squad?
A: In this universe new recruits are sent to Squad Ten for first missions and evaluations. That’s the in-verse explanation to determine how many players we have and which Squads will be open to join. While the Main Story missions will grab PCs from multiple squads, choosing your squad will open up unique interactions and abilities/items to gain in Free Posting.

Q: How many players are allowed?
A: I only need four-five to get the game started. If there are further interests I’ll be willing to open up more slots as multiple storylines are happening at once, creating enough involvement for more than five players.

Q: Do you have experience as a GM?
A: Most of my roleplay experience is as a GM. I helped run a successful Bleach RP that ran for a little over two years, and helped run arcs in games that I was a player in.

Gotei 13 Information

The different squads and their responsibilities have always been left ambiguous in the show. Therefore, this information is a mix between my own ideas and what the series has given us.

First Division: Led by the Captain-Commander, the First Division is made up of the most versatile and model Shinigami. The head of the Gotei 13, in cases of emergencies this division is able to ascertain situations and mobilize quickly without given orders. Most missions are sent out through them. Think about internal affairs, as well.

Second Division: This is the Stealth and Information department. Alongside Squad Twelve and Five, not much is known about this squad outside of basic information. They specialize in covert missions. Stealth and high battle skill is a known requirement for this squad. Unbeknownst to most Shinigami, the commander of this squad also leads the Onmitsukidō and carries out assassin missions.

Third Division: Information and Gathering. This division is responsible for sending Shinigami to gather information, and often works with the second and thirteenth division to ensure safety. They often work with Squad 12 as well in order to send information and work out conclusions. Monitoring and communication systems are run through them as well.

Fourth Division: Medical Assistance & Supply. As simple as it sounds. They deal with the brunt of injuries and are usually sent to the battlefield after the fact or act as support on missions if requested by other divisions.

Fifth Division: Kidō Tactics & Control. This division is responsible for creating, ranking, and monitoring the use of Kidō within the Soul Society. Most, if not all, of their members are accepted based on their skill in Kidō. It’s said to be one of the more difficult squads to move up in rank as it’s not determined by mission success, but by advancements made in the Kidō field. It’s known that the Fifth Division Captain is the head of the Kidō corps as well, however that group works in the shadows as well.

Sixth Division: Internal Affairs. This division is responsible for monitoring Shinigami activity and apprehending Shinigami that break the law. This squad works closest with Squad One, reporting directly to them as well as Central 46. Their barracks contain the largest number of holding cells. Think of your modern day police, but for Shinigami.

Seventh Division: Diplomatic Relations. This squad is responsible for maintaining peace within the Rukongai, and are the go to guys if the residents have problems. This is the closest residents get to interacting with the Gotei 13, bar an invasion or large scale attack.

Eighth Division: Reserves. This squad is similar to Squad Eleven in terms of being a combat squad. However, instead of specializing in anything, these members are generally well-rounded in order to fit any role needed. They are the first squad called if reinforcements are needed.

Ninth Division: Counter Intelligence. This squad works closely with Squad Twelve as well as the Sixth Division. On occasion, they also receive information from Squad Two. Their job is to prevent information from leaking, whether that’s to the Rukongai, Human World, or Seireitei. They also help the Fifth Division Captain store away forbidden Kidō, although this is a lesser known fact. If anything, speculation.

Tenth Division: Large-Scale Operations. The entry-division that every Shinigami joins upon graduating the academy. This squad is in charge of analyzing and assessing every new applicant. As such, most new applicants end up finding a home here and stay or wait a year or two before requesting transfers. As such, Squad Ten remains the squad with the highest number of Shinigami at any given time. On a larger scale, they are in charge of offensive tactics and get handed missions directly from Squad One in order to assess which Squad would be best for said mission.

Eleventh division: Frontlines. If you’ve watched the show, no further explanation is needed. If not, this is the second largest division in the Gotei 13. General meatheads that specialize in physical combat, often butting heads with members of the Fifth Division for their use in ranged combat. The Captain of this squad holds the title of Kenpachi, given only to the strongest Shinigami. The only way to become Captain of this squad is to kill the current captain in front of the entire division.

Twelfth Division: Research and Development. Once again, as simple as it sounds. This squad is in charge of technological advancements, as well as researching information sent to them from the various squads they work with. The Captain is said to be, as well as expected to be, the most intelligent Shinigami in the Soul Society. Ranking up in this squad is said to be the most difficult, and becoming Captain of this squad is second only to becoming Captain-Commander.

Thirteenth Division: Defensive Tactics. While Squad Seven is responsible for maintaining peace in the Rukongai, Squad Thirteen maintains peace within the Seireitei and the Human World. They often work in tandem with Squad Three to do patrols within the Human World.

Every Squad has their own barracks the size of a small village, each. This makes it so when solo writing or collabing, you have creative freedom over the setting without having to inquire with me.
It takes four years to graduate from the academy, and if one doesn’t graduate then they have to attend an additional two years. If failed after that, it takes six years to graduate.

First Year: Studying the history and duties of the Gotei 13 and Soul Society as a whole. Studies (Attributes) as well.
Second Year: Basic Training, this is where most Shinigami figure out what fits best for them and what they want to specialize in.
Third Year: Your average Shinigami hears their Zanpakuto at this stage, though it isn’t uncommon for a Shinigami to not unlock their Shikai. Training becomes intense at this level.
Fourth Year (Graduation): Half the year is dedicated to intense training, with a break in between, to be rested for in-field training. In order to Graduate, Shinigami must show the ability to slay at least one Hollow with an instructor on standby to stop death or harm.

~Gotei 13~

Hikari “Death Incarnate” Shinrai. The Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13, notoriously known as a flirtatious and charming fellow, although those are rumors from his younger days. These days he’s rarely seen, as he uses his position to live his dreams of finally being as lazy and drunk as possible. Despite his calm and carefree demeanor, he is said to be the strongest Captain-Commander in history as he saved the Soul Society from the Age of Darkness alongside a previous Kenpachi. Until him - it was unheard of for a Shinigami to match the body count of a Kenpachi, earning him the name “Death Incarnate” from the strongest Kenpachi ever himself.

Takehiro Kuchiki: The Captain of Squad-Ten, hand-picked by Hikari himself. He generally comes across calm, emotionless, and thoughtful. However, he is very kind and surprisingly offers a very warm smile. He’s dedicated to training others as Hikari trained him, and pushes his students to be the best they can be. Has a dual-zanpakuto.

Sōkyoku: Sōkyoku is a form of execution usually reserved for those with extremely strong spiritual powers, namely Shinigami captains. The Sōkyoku is a giant halberd that utterly destroys a soul on contact. When released, Sōkyoku takes on the form of a phoenix, its true form, called Kikōō. The Kikōō has the destructive power of a million Zanpakutō, and that power is multiplied by a factor of 10 at the moment it pierces its victim.
This is where I will be posting basic information for those that aren’t too familiar with the series or may need a reminder.

Personality: 

Jinzo Iori is a man with a clear idea of what he wants out of life; to eat and be merry. Granted, his preferred activity to obtain merriment is to be eating, but he also enjoys not doing all that much else. In fact, he'll often go out of his way to shirk certain responsibilities so that can find a quiet place to eat his favourite foods. In any given situation, Jinzo's first thought often involves his voracious appetite. It's a wonder to many just how he isn't the size of a building, given that he eats so much. Though he simply tells people who ask that he appreciates the wonders of food, however, the true reason involves his Reiatsu as well as his Zanpakuto and that isn't information he gives up freely.

As a Shinigami, Jinzo holds a deep-seated respect for Hikari Shinrai though not simply because he's the Captain-Commander, or even because he's frequently considered to be on par with the strongest Kenpachi ever. No. Jinzo greatly admires how he prefers to spend his time; being lazy and getting drunk. Though not quite the same as eating, the sentiment is the same and seeing that a man of similar disposition has managed to climb so high in order to live out his dream, Jinzo has found true motivation from his Commander-in-chief. It's through Hikari's example that Jinzo has committed himself to attaining a cushy mid-to-high ranking job in one of the more internally-based squads, like Squad Nine or Squad Six. His third choice, Squad Eight, is because he believes that the Reserve Squad wouldn't get called up all too much - leaving him plenty of free time to eat.

His penchant for food and being lazy has often been to his detriment, as you might imagine. This was the main reason for him being held back at the academy for an extra two years - an occurrence he doesn't seem too bothered by though. In fact he quite relishes being one of the oldest in his graduating year as he now views the majority of his classmates as his juniors and thus will often attempt to take charge of a given situation, only to delegate the hard work out amongst his peers. This move is usually met with a middling response. All in all, however, Jinzo is usually quite earnest in completing a task that he's failed at passing off to someone else. In his mind, if he's unable to get someone else to do it then it only makes sense to try to complete the job as quickly and efficiently as possible. That way, he can swiftly get back to doing what he loves the most; eating.

History:

Jinzo was born as a Soul in the 73rd district of West Rukongai. Like many residents who live in the larger numbered districts, Jinzo was exceptionally poor growing up and - unlike many of his fellow Souls around him - possessed an above-average level of Reiryoku that required him to eat. This phenomenon was almost unheard of for those not apart of the Gotei 13 - since food is needed to replenish spiritual power. In Jinzo's case, however, he seemed to be constantly emitting Reiatsu beyond his control. Whilst not in massive amounts, the permanence of his predicament meant that for most of his younger years, Jinzo would often have to scavenge for anything he could feasibly eat, lest he fall into a suspended state of consciousness from expelling all of his Reiryoku. This would be akin to dying, as he'd still continuously be emitting his spiritual pressure without being able to replenish it himself, though he wouldn't reincarnate to the Human World unless he was physically attacked and killed.

It was only at the age of 22 that he learned he could apply to the Shin'ō Academy; a place where food was plentiful so he could eat his fill and - thus - not effectively die from his condition. His entrance exam was rather peculiar, as the normal examination required a Soul to produce some amount of Reiatsu, whereas Jinzo was already doing so constantly. There were several examiners and other members of the Gotei 13 who took special notice of his condition. Jinzo's time at the Academy was an extended one - it took him six years to graduate instead of the usual four. This was mostly due to his lax behavior and his main interest being food. It wasn't until he began to hear his Zanpakuto's voice for the first time after failing to graduate, that he began to take his training somewhat seriously - although his general indolence never truly went away.

After learning the nature of his Zanpakuto through Jinzen, Jinzo made a pact with his blade. Instead of fighting the spirit of his Zanpakuto in order to gain further abilities, he would promise to feed it Reiatsu of all different kinds whenever he could. And when he wasn't fighting, Gouyokuou would feast on his constantly emitting spiritual power as a means of greatly reducing the rate of expenditure. In the two years since hearing Gouyokuou for the first time, Jinzo has graduated from the Academy and has also managed to learn Shikai - a feat many of his instructors had thought impossible, due to his attention usually being elsewhere. 

Relationships/Friendships/Rivalries/Siblings:

Gouyokuou - Jinzo's relationship with his Zanpakuto is a rather tentative one. Whilst the pact made between them seemed like a good deal initially, Jinzo has recently been neglecting his side of the deal in favour of simply eating more so that Gouyokuou can continually feast on his own Reiatsu, as opposed to the Reiatsu of any opponents he's supposed to face. The disharmony between them, however, isn't anywhere close to being a major issue just yet, but there are very clear teething issues between them. A more noticeable difference being that Jinzo prefers to end his fights as quickly and efficiently as possible, whereas Gouyokuou prefers fights that last longer so that he can savour the taste of the Reiatsu he drains. These are simply the normal issues a Shinigami will go through with their Zanpakuto.

Kido & Other Techniques

Despite his Zanpakuto being a Kido-type, Jinzo hasn't learnt all that many Kido and other techniques aside from the very basics. Also, those that he has decided to learn are mostly related to some form of immobilization or restraint. This is purely to supplement his Shikai's ability at draining Reiatsu. In the long term, Jinzo hopes to learn powerful sealing Kido so that he is able to end a fight swiftly, which would enable him to return to his favourite pastime much faster.

When Jinzo activates his Zanpakuto’s Shikai, Gouyokuou slowly drains the reiatsu of any being within a 20m radius from Jinzo's position. The amount of reiatsu drained is relatively small but remains constant and requires those affected by it be able to sense it happening or figure out Gouyokuou's ability through other means. The drained reiatsu does not replenish Jinzo's own with this ability. As such, Jinzo prefers to utilize it offensively, rather than defensively, by using his mobility - in conjunction with his other abilities - to keep his opponents within its' radius in order to drain his enemies faster and end the battle. It is to be noted that the utilisation of Gouyokuou's other abilities will cause this passive ability to be unusable for varying periods of time, dependent on the ability used. If an ability is used whilst this passive is already on cooldown, the timer will reset to cooldown period of the latest ability. (Note: This ability also affects allies!)

Shikai Active Abilities:

Jinzo can activate this ability to dramatically increase the amount of reiatsu he can drain from his opponents for a limited amount of time but with the added benefit of replenishing his own simultaneously. Anyone that remains within a 20m radius of him after a short period of activation will have their spiritual power drained by what feels like three internal strikes. After which, Gouyokuou's passive ability will be stopped for a period of time.

Jinzo can activate this ability to defensively negate a single ability that can be classified as either a melee strike or a ranged projectile by draining the reiatsu from it completely. Abilities that have an area of effect cannot be negated with this. The drained reiatsu does not replenish Jinzo's own with this ability. Abilities with larger amounts of reiatsu will take longer for this ability to drain and will force Jinzo to remain stationary for its duration. After which, Gouyokuou's passive ability will be stopped for a period of time.

Jinzo can activate this ability to create a massive, invisible scythe that follows the movements of his own scythe with a slightly delayed response (2 seconds) for a period of time. This invisible scythe can cut through anything a normal blade would but can also be enhanced with higher amounts of reiatsu to cut through more durable materials. Whilst this technique remains invisible to Jinzo's enemies and allies alike, the scythe can be detected by those who are able to sense reiatsu to a decent level. Naturally, the higher the amount of reiatsu that has been injected into the technique, the easier it is to detect and avoid. Each strike from the invisible scythe will drain his opponent's reiatsu as well as replenish Jinzo's own by a relative amount, providing either Gouyokuou or the scythe make contact with Jinzo's opponent or their Zanpakuto. Gouyokuou's passive ability will be stopped for the entire duration of this ability and for a short time after.

Novice/Average/Good is essentially me asking you how good you are at said skill. There was a character I believe that said he was poor at Kido so he would be Novice while he focuses on Zanjutsu, he would likely fall into the Good category. Think of good as, above your average Shinigami level or the area you would like to begin specializing in.

While the attribute list is more so categorized to give meaning to the point system, the rank isn't relative to how skillful you are but how powerful said ability is. So, a Captain would be able to get a Captain-Level ability for 7 points, while someone under that rank would take longer to learn such ability so the cost would be 14 points.

It's RP vs Mechanics. I should have made that clearer in the op, sorry bout that.

History: A previous resident of the 75 District of Rokungai, Yuto's first memories are of a maddening need to survive, satisfy the hunger, and become free of the dangers inherent to the district he lived in. It was during this particular stage of his life that he learned many of the lessons that would mark him later as a shinigami, none of them good, but all of them useful to survive. 
Through sheer chance he did manage to join the academy where he was trained on all the proficiencies of a shinigami and despite possessing a complete lack of talent in Kido and the capacity to perceive spiritual energy he more than made up in impressive strength and unarmed combat, getting remarks from his teachers that it was purely thanks to these attributes that he graduated.
Sadly his dreams of a cushy life were dashed the moment he was assigned to a (Eleventh) Division where he was nicknamed ‘Runt’ as the freshest recruit to join, eventually becoming something of an outcast, especially once the details of his shikai were known. There he is treated not only like a common soldier but as a busybody for his seniors. unexpectedly he has found himself fond of mindless physical labor.

Hey, I posted in the IC not long ago. Hope it's alright to throw my hat in the ring. I already had a character I built a long time ago that I've edited to suit the RP, I took some things out such as his Bankai etc but if you'd prefer them to be in the CS ahead of time I can re-add them. ❖  A P P E A R A N C E
 The sharp, pointed nose that sits in the center of Jingorō's face is off-put by the rounded cheeks that flank it. In similar contrast his jawline is long but faint, culminating in the cleft chin that hangs beneath his dull peach lips. Large ears are noticeable to either side of his head as he often strings his jet-black hair into a tight top-knot, although some hairs stray regardless. His eyes often seem a lifeless grey at a glance as only when he stares directly does the sea-green hue become noticeable.

Tall and lithe, Jingorō wears the typical long-sleeved Shihakushō, the black robes given to all Shinigami. He adds little in way of accessory, preferring to strictly adhere to tradition. The only thing setting him apart being the mint-green silk he uses to tie his hair. 

Tucked into the white sash at his waist rest his Daishō. A Zanpakutō, a similar hue of mint rayon wrapping it's handle, sits highest with a notable swirled guard spreading outwards to eight points like a nautical compass and a Wakizashi sword purely present as ornament, as is tradition.

❖  H I S T O R Y   &   P E R S O N A L I T Y
 Born into one of the noble houses, Jingorō had been a playful boy of high spirits. Somewhat mollycoddled by his mother and largely ignored by his father he grew to be kind and soft of heart. 

During the early unrest after the reunification of the Gotei 13 many flash points and riots affected Rukongai and it was on one such day that Jingorō's life changed. His mother was accidentally cut down during a conflict between Shinigami and dissidents of the Rukongai, seeing such a thing affected the young boy foundationally. He remembered that day as a sunny one, but the image burnt into his minds eye was of the heavy rain pummeling the thick mud around the pure white outline of his mother.

After that fateful day Jingorō was the charge of his father, whom after the incident grew even more distant still. Although he never wanted to be, as a son of a noble family he was destined to become a Shinigami. It was at this point in life he was forced to grow up quickly, becoming a quiet and passive person. 

His initial training under the stewardship of his father went poorly. The last thing Jingorō wanted at that point was to be surrounded by death, he had come to hate it, but his father at least, gave him one poignant lesson that has driven him to this day. That if he became strong enough, there wouldn't be any need for death. That once a Shinigami truly masters his soul, he doesn't have to resort to such permanent solutions. From that point forward Jingorō applied himself, vowing to become as strong as he could. 

❖  R E L A T I O N S H I P S
 Jingorō has almost always been a quiet and reserved person. He has poured himself into diligent training and has rarely had the time nor inclination to make friends or socialize. As a result he is often alone and reluctant to join in on festivities, apart from the official holidays and celebrations in the Seireitei.

 Jingorō has always fought with the intent to incapacitate rather than kill. His belief is that death is inherently impure and all involved are better served should conflicts end without lost life. As a result he has diligently trained in all four major disciplines of the Gotei 13, giving each an equal attention.

In battle Jingorō is often keen to use the environment and terrain to his advantage, manipulating opponents position to better defend himself and strike precisely. To compliment this he has a well developed integration of Bakudo spells into his combat style to aid his non-lethal preference.

 Bordered by winding trees and spotted with lily-pads, Jingorō's inner world takes the form of a tranquil bayou. Save for a few dozen fireflies, lunar rays serve as the only illumination to an otherwise inky-black domain.

Following the trail of Easter lily's in bloom, nestled among the meandering tree roots, sits a colossal toad upon an equally large lily-pad. In his early life Jingorō had to make do watching the toads gesticulations as it would not speak. Often finding silence to be the better teacher, he would ask the beast questions with no reply leading to introspection.

It took years for Jingorō to discover the truth. When his introspection led him to uncovering his Shikai, it was also revealed to him that the Toad he had so long pondered with was in fact not his inner spirit. He had never questioned the depth of the bayou as it only reached his knees as he walked. Yet on the edge of death, fighting a hollow, he found himself too weak to stand. As he fell through the surface Jingorō glared into the abyss he had not considered before. Until a few silvered beams probed the rocks beneath the giant lily-pad and gave light to his true soul.

A man, hanging in the twilight, feet chained to the bedrock as long wisps of hair veiled his face like thin seaweed. He could not see eyes and yet he felt seen. For someone with such a complicated relationship with death, Jingorō scorned that he had to get so close to his own. But it was here, in conversation with the drowned man, that he began to plumb the true depths of his soul.

[Purify, Red Spider Lily]

❖  S H I K A I   A P P E A R A N C E
 Named after the flower of death used in Shinto funerals, the Shikai form Higanbana does not change much apart from two key features. A fuller, sometimes called a blood groove, completely perforates the blade, stretching the length of it's spine, ending at an unchanged eight-pointed star compass at it's hilt. And at the base of the handle drips a long silver chain often held in Jingorō's opposite hand that itself ends with a small but weighty twin-pronged hook. 

❖  S H I K A I   A B I L I T I E S
 Using the command 'Nomu' (飲 - Drink), Higanbana's blade is able to absorb water from almost any source it touches. The water trapped inside bonds with Jingorō's reiatsu, purifying it and bringing it under his control. As the sword drinks more two things happen. Firstly it salivates, thirsting for more water, multiplying the amount trapped in its blade. The sword also gets progressively heavier though this does not hinder Jingorō as to him it is like lifting his own reiatsu, but to an opponent his attacks become like crashing waves.

At a certain point Higanbana will have absorbed so much that its slaver renders its water self-sustaining. When this happens it will constantly pour from the blades hollow spine like an overflowing faucet, making each strike pulverizing and drench the vicinity in pools of its purified water. 

The major weakness of this Zanpakutō is of course that it requires a source of water to be nearby to be effective quickly. Over time as he swings Higanbana, it will rip the vapor out of the air itself and so it can very slowly gain power. Higanbana cannot pull the water from an opponents body as their reiatsu is so strongly bonded to the water inside their body Higanbana cannot displace it.

清波 - Kiyoinami (Pure Wave) - With a swing of Higanbana a highly pressurised arc of water escapes the blade, capable of slicing rock or even metal. In rare cases Jingorō has used it as a shield, splitting and negating attacks moments before impact.

❖  B A N K A I   A P P E A R A N C E
 In Bankai Jingorō's Zanpakutō gets significantly different. As it's name is called a giant ghostly torii gate appears behind Jingorō with a colossal funeral bell between it's pillars. A single knell reverberates in the air as a ring of blossoming red spider lily's surround Jingorō and his opponent. Great cracks of thunder echo in the sky inviting the dark clouds swarming above. It always rains on sad days.

As the gate and bell fade away, Jingorō is revealed to be wearing a pristine white Jōe, the garment worn by Shinto priests at ceremonies, and in his hands are grasped two Ōnusa, the wooden wands replete with paper streamers as are used in purification rituals.

Higanbana No Sōsai is, in essence, a funeral. Jingorō is loathed to use it as he inherently sees death as impure and his dedication to his training has been such that he would never have to resort to killing to stop someone. But in rare cases, he is prepared to offer his opponent a full and proper funeral so as to cleanse them of the impurity of death.

❖  B A N K A I   A B I L I T I E S
 In Higanbana no Sōsai, all water in the vicinity becomes Jingorō's Zanpakutō. Using the two Ōnusa as handles of sorts he can form pressurised water into blades of varying sizes and shapes with which to fight. Both he and his opponent are locked inside the ring of flowers with almost all outside interference deflected or negated. However the true ability of Higanbana no Sōsai is the procession itself. 

Whilst it's Shikai acts as the Misogi purification ritual and the release of Bankai serves as adoration, completing two of the six funeral rites, the remaining four are completed in Bankai in order for Higanbana to accept the purification and kill his opponent. Three Norito prayers must be finished if he is to call the last rite. They may be completed in any order so long as the requirements are met. 

神楽 - Kagura [First Rite, Dance]- Perhaps the most nebulous rite. Kagura is a ceremonial dance which in the case of Higanbana no Sōsai takes the form of combat. With fluid movements Jingorō can seem to be dancing from afar. Some even swear that when his blade swings the water it sprays chimes, and the clashing swords echo like Taiko drums. It is not entirely known when this rite is considered complete, but Jingorō must engage his opponent and create a mortal dance of wills.

直会 - Norai [Second Rite, Feast]- As is common at funerals a feast must be observed, yet this one is different. To invoke the second rite, Jingorō must be wounded. Through the fighting he will expel a lot of his strength and will inevitably take damage if he is facing an opponent strong enough to draw out his Bankai. When he teeters on the edge of that surface so reminiscent of his inner world, Jingorō invokes Norai. By using his Ōnusa to guide the water he will drink from the rising pool, in doing so his body will be rejuvenated, his reiatsu bolstered and his wounds healed. He may do this only once, but once is all it takes for the second rite to be completed. 

雨の中の涙 - Ame no Naka no Namida [Third Rite, Tears in the Rain]- The third rite is perhaps the only one Jingorō has no control over. As time passes the rain his Bankai started will not subside, slowly but surely within the ring of flowers a large pool will form and start to rise. It is in effect, a timer. 
Representing the mourning for the deceased, only once it reaches the knees can it be considered complete. This means that even if Jingorō could defeat his opponent quicker he must wait for the rite to end if he is to complete the funeral correctly.

All of which leads us to the last rite. As is noted in it's Shikai, Higanbana is unable to consume the water inside of someones body. This is because the Reiatsu within their body is already bonded to that water and Higanbana cannot consume another Reiatsu. Higanbana No Sōsai is in reality a ritual with which to break that bond and strip the opponents body of it's inherent Reiatsu so it's water may be consumed. 

Much like condensation, pooling water vapor onto cold surfaces, Higanbana No Sōsai interacts with Reiatsu purity. Death is inherently impure and every time a being kills another their Reiatsu is corrupted by it. Using it's pure water Jingorō's Bankai can strip the air and pull from the skin the impure Reiatsu expelled by opponents as they fight with him. This is the funerals cause, to purify the opponent to the point Higanbana can drink from their body.

Doing so keeps Jingorō's own reiatsu pure. He does not like to kill and in the rare cases he fights someone that requires his Bankai, almost exclusively, a lot of death has lead them to their current status. During his Bankai the opponent does not feel their Reiatsu being stripped, they do not grow weaker or less powerful it is a simple matter of moving where the Reiatsu is. This is another cause for the water level rising, as his Bankai pulls the Reiatsu from his opponents body it pools together with his in the water. This is how Norai works, as he is able to drink purified Reiatsu from the water they wade through, rejuvenating his body.

Once the three rites have been completed and the Bankai's procession has been observed, the water will glow with Jingorō's Reiatsu. Clapping his hands and bowing the final adoration takes place. The ghostly Torii gate returns and one final knell of it's haunting bell takes place before several spears shoot from the water, piercing limbs and holding the soon to be deceased in place. 

Jingorō extends his hand and Higanbana's Shikai form will rise from the depths to his grasp, it's chain wrapping around and up his arm. Running his opponent through he will often offer last words before his command to drink. Higanbana will desiccate a body so voraciously that it will often crumble away as if cremated, as is the practice in Shinto funerals.

海入道不純 - Uminyūdōfujun [Impure Sea Priest]- This is an ability of Higanbana No Sōsai that has never been revealed to the Gōtei. When pressed on it's existence, Jingorō is known to have answered 'Sometimes the funeral goes wrong'.

@Teyao Thank you for updating your abilities, very well thought out. Just be aware that every Shinigami joins Squad Ten upon Graduation, but it wouldn't be unheard of for new Shinigami to have visited Squad Eleven barracks or be around members of other Squads. So that still allows you to play with that idea. Accepted altogether though!

@Brink I saw the post, thank you for your interest. Very interesting character with a perspective many don't go for, not liking killing. Diplomacy matters just as much as Combat in this RP, so I wonder how that'll affect things going forward. Accepted.

Biography: 
	Not much can be said on her past as she chooses to ignore the things she's been through, trauma blocking it out. Coming from district 80 of the Rukongai district, she's definitely struggled through life since she came to be here. Her teachers would think that the only way she survived most of the brutality in that district is due to her pretty face and they would be right. While her face did offer advantages, it didn't mean much to most men there so she had to be quick and cunning to earn a place there and not be treated like vermin. Happy to leave that life behind her, she did take on a very cold persona while attending classes, which if anyone remembered her, would call her Ice Queen even though she's got a fiery temper and is fairly scrappy. She got the nickname because some random guy tried to confess he was in love with her but she responded very bluntly and disinterested by telling him, 'Good for you' and then just walking off like he didn't just try and confess his love to her. So to get back at her for her cruelty toward his confession, she became known as Ice Queen. Survival is all she knows and continues to display that as she comes off as not very friendly or very blunt to others which she uses to hide how she really is from others. Which would be that she's a sweet girl that's a hopeless romantic that loves small and cute things. She tends to be very combative with men that she finds to be idiotic and mostly very quiet and reserved around women and men she respects.

Shikai Skills: 
	1. When summoning her shikai, she gains four kitsune tails which allow her to quickly dash across the battlefield and increases her Kido ability. It is also used defensively as well when she is in combat or mostly immobile and not running around. It protects her backside for one attack before she would need to react to protect herself while her tails would disappear for taking the brunt of the attack. 
	*Duration: Instant, Cooldown for defensive ability is two posts*

	2. "Feral Shadow Fox" - a Kido slash attack that does minimal damage, but affects someone with a random Illusion.
		Fear: Enemy runs away
		Love: A repeat of ability one (To increase duration or begin a new one)
		Hurt: The Kido slash reiatsu drains into the opponent and begins burning them from the inside.
		Betrayal: When a group is attacking and one person is hit with it, it will make them go to attack one of their comrades and just when they are about to strike the comrade, it wears off, wasting two opponents turns.

	3. "Shadow Fox Clone" - She summons 3 clones of illusion that perfectly mimic her actions. Any {Direct} attack made against her will instead be automatically be taken by one of the clones and it will dissipate.

Well, now that I don't feel quite as terrible as earlier today and yesterday, I got this ready. Hopefully it's all good~

~Basic~

Name:
	Shion Kana

Appearance:
	Standing at five foot nine (176 cm) and 157 pounds, Shion has no real distinguishing characteristics, physically. Not since her death, at least. She has many tiny scars on her body from training, though these are hard to see even when not covered by clothing.

Personality: 
	Shion is, at least now, a highly motivated Shinigami. She has an unhealthy obsession with swords, though this serves her well as a Soul Reaper, and tends to oscillate between high and low moods, though rarely without warning or reason. She is usually stubborn unless in one of her lower moods, but her main trait that's notable to anyone she meets is her notable hero complex. She's not the type to create problems that she can solve, but she'll seek out trouble and situations where she can be useful to others at any given opportunity. 

History:
	Shion Kana was born in Japan, the victim of a rare illness that made her extremely weak physically, as well as weakening her immune system. Her family moved to America to find a specialized doctor, causing her to live her whole life rarely being anywhere other than her home or a medical facility. In spite of this she was quite a happy person who loved life and considered herself quite fortunate just to be alive. With very few options on how to pass the time she found herself spending most of her time reading, often including manga from the country of her birth. It was due to this that she grew a love for swords, despite not being physically able to use them even if she had gotten to own one, and heroism. She often fantasized about being a manga character, able to fight for others and defeat those who would bring harm to the world. 

	Unfortunately, even with advancements in medicine, she would never get a chance to achieve her dream. At only the age of sixteen, her family brought her back to Japan to visit her more distant relatives. She'd been there before for similar trips and she had mastery of the language, surely it would be fine to have another family trip. Unfortunately, disaster struck. Though her doctor had assured her and her family that things would be fine while she was there, they were incorrect. Shion caught a rather innocuous virus, and due to her frailty she passed away in her sleep. She remembers having fallen asleep in her bed between coughing fits and waking up with a strange chain on her chest. When she followed it to where it was connected she saw her own corpse and, after a surprisingly minor panic attack, realized that she was dead.

	This revelation terrified her, the thought of leaving behind her family was heartbreaking, but this was somewhat offset by her realization that she could move. She was no longer held back by her body's weakness, and though it took a short while to get used to, she was thankful that she wouldn't have to spend her apparent afterlife in the same state as when she was living. Unbeknownst to her, Shion bore well above average Reiryoku, resulting in a higher level of Spiritual Pressure. This normally wouldn't be a bad thing, but in her case it attracted a Hollow shortly after her passing. The Hollow crashed through the building, miraculously not harming the other members of the Kana family in doing so, and tried to devour her. 

	The Hollow's attack broke her Chain of Fate and the monster nearly swallowed her whole, but with her no longer bound to her body and her newfound mobility she was able to escape through the hole the Hollow had created. She'd never really ran before, tripping and falling a few dozen yards from where her body lay, but just as the Hollow set upon her again, she was saved. A strange person in a black outfit appeared from nowhere and slew the monster with a single strike from their sword. Instantly, Shion was captivated. A real life, or not, in this case, shounen-esque hero!

	The Shinigami, as the person revealed themself to be, noticed Shion's Spiritual Pressure and her clear interest in their profession. After all, she wouldn't shut up with questions about Shinigami and Hollows after she found out they exist. And so the Shinigami performed Konsō on her, as must be done for all Pluses, and she entered Soul Society. Since then she's worked harder than she was ever even able to while alive, all for the purposes of becoming a Shinigami herself. Six years later she had completed the Shin'ō Academy curriculum just barely well enough to graduate, lacking in Kido and Hakuda skills but overcompensating with Zanjutsu and to a lesser degree Hohō. Now that she's out of the Academy, she's ready to go to work as a Soul Reaper, starting with the required time in Squad Ten. She has yet to achieve Shikai, nor has she heard her Zanpakuto's voice even once.

Goals:
	Her mains goals are threefold and in no order, as she wants all three equally. That does not mean they are all equally achievable, unfortunately.
	1. Enjoy her afterlife to the fullest and become strong enough to do so. 
	2. Help everyone who needs help that she meets and seek out those in need. 
	3. Make the world, both of the Soul Society and the World of the Living, better and safer so that everyone can live freely and happily. 

Squad Interests:
	1. Seventh (7) - What better place to achieve her second and third goals than the Squad tasked with helping and protecting the residents of the Rukongai? 
	2. Twelfth (12) - Research in a world where most technology is sword-based people get magical swords and souls exist? Those concepts fascinate her, and this is a great place to help people and improve their lives both directly and indirectly.
	3. Thirteenth (13) - Her reason is basically the same as her reasons for joining Seventh, just for the living instead of Soul Society.

Relationships: 
	None to speak of. Despite having to take the extended time in the Academy, she never really became close or contentious with anyone there. Despite this, she is looking for a rival, or rather multiple, who can even further motivate her. (Not that she's in need of more motivation, in fact she might have too much already...)

~Zanpakuto~

Zanpakuto Name: 
	Kireikage (Beautiful Shadow)

Type: 
	Kido, in spite of her inability to use regular Kido at any real level.

Kaigo: 
	"Flash by, Kireikage."

Zanpakuto Appearance: 
	Basic Appearance: Shion's zanpakuto is a rather standard katana. Though its edge is ever so slightly serrated, that is the only notable feature. The tsuka (grip) is a solid black with no wrap, seemingly made from a single material. It bears a square shaped tsuba (guard) that is a muted silver and completely blank. Its saya (scabbard) is a pure, unblemished white. 

	Shikai: When released, Kireikage creates ethereal afterimages of itself, one slightly in front of its blade and three at increasing intervals behind the blade. This causes a single slash to create a gory mess as the strike is multiplied five-fold. Because of this, blocking strikes from Kireikage is very difficult, as blocking or parrying the first blow will only cause the following blows to strike the same place, quickly draining the stamina of the target. 

	Zanpakuto Spirit: Kireikage is, in terms of personality and appearance, an anomaly that is difficult to understand. Though it has yet to speack to her, it seems to have Shion's best interests at heart, and wants to avoid needless things. 

	Inner World: Shion's Inner World is a rather empty place. It manifests as a grassy field under a starry sky where the stars are constantly moving their places and flickering in and out of view.
	

Shikai Skills:
	None, as of yet.

Future Skills: 
	Kuroiro Sakkaku (Black Illusion): Alters the gap between the afterimages of her blade, causing the timing of each blow to change. 	[Five post duration : Four post cooldown]
	
	Fuyasu Kuro (Augment Black): Creates further instances of the shikai's ability, increasing the number of afterimages by a multiple of two, up to eight increases. [Three post duration per set of two blades : Four post cooldown per set of two blades]

	Imoshinai Utsushi (Invisible Facsimile): Removes two of the afterimages to form a translucent double-edged sword in her other hand. [Two post duration : Two post cooldown]

~Attributes~

Kido:
	Novice, if it can even be called that. Think Renji but even worse, somehow. Probably couldn't even hit with the point-blank Shakkahō that he did. She can only really use one spell, and only because if she didn't at least learn to do it on command, she'd flunk, and because it helps with her training. 
	- Seki. The only spell she can use without flubbing it halfway through casting, she uses it most often to train against.

Zanjutsu:
	Good. Her strongest subject, despite not having Shikai. 
	- Hōzuri. Another technique she uses for training, she's gotten quite good at precise strikes by practicing with this.

Hakuda:
	Novice. Again, whether she can even be classified as a novice is up for debate. She knows how to throw a punch and how to properly kick, but that's about the extent of what she can do with it.
	

Hoho:
	Good. Nothing really to say beyond that.
	- Shunpo. She's able to use it consecutively relatively well, though after a third Flash Step she tends to trip herself up somehow.

	Shion tends to fight in unorthodox ways, purposefully making mistakes with her stance and footwork in order to throw off her opponent. Her favorite is to stand with her feet level and parallel to her shoulders, seemingly preventing the ability to fight well at all, though this is of course just a facade.

Biography:
Born into the lower noble house of the Nakajima family, Ageha was raised from birth with severe expectations once her Reiatsu was sensed. The Nakajima clan had long sought glory of its own, as its heyday had long passed, with only middling Shinigami being admitted to the ranks of the Gotei from their family for generations. With this in mind, the family's latest scion was given harsh training in combat, politics, and administration practically since she could walk. 

While Ageha met every expectation placed upon her, it wasn't without cost. Years of nothing but brutal instruction and relentless expectations with little in the way of proper familial support or affection rendered Ageha cold, spiteful, and hard. She entered Shin'o Academy with this mindset, making few friends, more than a few enemies, and excelling in Zanjutsu in particular. 

Ageha graduated, pleasing her family. But unbeknowst to them, she'd long since decided to go her own way. The instant she left the Academy, all contact from her ceased. Restoring the glory of the Nakajima clan meant nothing to her. Not after what they had put her through. It had worked, to be certain. But that wasn't her problem. She'd find her own purpose. And she'd find it within the Gotei. There wasn't anywhere else for her to go, and frankly, she did enjoy actually utilizing the abilities she'd spent so long honing.

Relationships:

Yuto: Dumb muscle. Good for a spar, and he's refreshingly blunt, but that's about all he's useful for. That, and him being somehow worse than her at Kido makes Ageha feel better about herself.
Kobe Abiko: Practically an infant, considering he's fresh in from the world of the living. It's for that reason alone that Ageha took pity on him and gave him some pointers when he seemed lost. At least he knows to make an effort.

Sweet thank you. Yeah, it's not a hard rule as in, he will kill if he needs to, but only when he needs to, it's a last resort. And it's a heavy focus of his Bankai. I'm not quite sure if he would have the same rule with Hollows? at least base hollows, I'll have to figure that out but other Shinigami and Arrancar etc I think he'd take that attitude. Still keen to have him fight etc, just with that in mind. 

And sure, I'll just add the Bankai to the CS. Do you want to wait to see that before I move it to the Characters thread?

Edit: Updated the CS with Bankai. I haven't given it an edit at all from my old version so there might be some out of place things? I'm also not sure on how you'd judge the power level. But no rush, I'm quite far from Bankai obviously so plenty of time.

@Brink When you 'kill' a hollow, you're actually purifying the soul and sending them to the Soul Society. I imagine he'd be fine with that. Arrancar are a different story, and their existence isn't well-known so once he encounters that it'll definitely be an interesting dynamic.
