GROUP ONE

“I will obey the guides! Gah!”

“… obey…”

“… guides!”

“Gah!”

Riley’s voice echoed throughout the forest and birds started cawing. The trees suddenly burst to life; shadows jumped out from within the thick boughs and large leaves then fly upwards, animals careen away from the humans who were the source of the noise. Small hedgehogs scurried away from their places behind the nearby bushes. A rabbit burrowed deep inside a hole.

And then silence ensued once again. The uproar caused by their voices subsided until a deafening calm blanketed the area.

Thud.

Thud.

Thud.

Slow, heavy footfalls came from the west part of the forest. All of the humans, despite being in various states of discomfort, rushed up to their feet and warily faced that direction. They listened to the steady footfall until it became louder, faster and-

“RAAAAAAAAAAGH!”

The creature barreled through the woods, clearing a path with its sword which it wielded like a scythe. Trees fell over either from its blade or the sheer force it used while running and it paved a path for itself quickly. The beast's eyes glanced to the side as if it had spotted something and it picked up a log with its free hand, then threw it at Leon and Hakuren. When the humans ducked, it let out another huge roar that shook the entire forest, and then slammed the hilt of its sword against its thick metal shield as if to draw the small group's ire.

Rise to arms, humans.

Marco Polo (September 15, 1254 – January 8–9, 1324), Italian merchant traveller from Venice. Author of Livres des merveilles du monde, first known European to give a detailed chronicle of travels in Asia.

* * * *

Leila rested her head against the rough surface at the foot of one of the walls of the caves, body decided that it didn’t have enough energy to do anything - or move at all - at least until it’s done taking in all the pain from the tumbling crash after being swept into the air by the wind and then the scramble to the caves that consisted of multiple sequences of rolling across the ground in various ways and almost being crushed by a cascade of boulders. Her current attire covered most of her skin, sparing her from much of the scratch and cuts that would have occurred otherwise (and in fact did occur in a similar situation that previously arose). The sensation the felt like every joint in her body was detached and then popped back in at uncomfortable angles, however, wasn’t alleviated.

How strong a gust of wind did it have to be to propel them this far? Ugh, Nowherian aerodynamics. The girl was a bit too disoriented to tell, anyway.

Some other humans were in the caves as well. She wasn’t as good telling voices from one another. Ace. The blacked-haired writer boy with glasses. Harper - the kid who first greeted her way back at Nowhere station. Back when...how far back? It seemed to be the question she hit every time she tries to trace back. And from some point on, the question settled on returning a single, consistent answer:

“I don’t know.”

It bothered her greatly. Yet, Leila wasn’t given time to run through that routine this time, for a voice interrupted her. It was the messenger, who accompanied them in their journey in the area.

"I suggest you all close your eyes!" She yelled.

By the way you know Leila, it would probably not be hard to guess that when someone says that, there would be no way that Leila was going to close her eyes.

The burst of light followed, resulting in temporary blindness, discomfort, and profound confusion.

And the sudden regret of not having closed her eyes.

* * * *

Piezoluminescence.

Their advance forward - forward, because it was hard to tell whether they were on their way to leave the caves, of heading deeper into them - continued. Nowhere continued to fascinate Leila with its inexhaustible supply of absurd and unexpected materials and phenomena. The diversity in environments and organisms was also astounding - she thought as she paused to stare at the fish-shaped silhouettes that swam elegantly in the depths of the dimly fluorescent underwater lake. So much that she had never seen - so much that she would need to read up on. Or was there any documentation of this back at home? She was surely not the first human to visit such a place - right? Or was documentary even worth it when she had seen these scenes with her own eyes and saved them in her own memories? She came dangerously close to allowing her thoughts to wander off again, risking losing track of the actions and whereabouts of the rest of her group - the messenger and the other humans, who were currently attempting to devise a method of scaling a ledge of sorts that she assumed was somewhere near.

Leila also came dangerously close to being impaled on one of the claws of a giant mushroom that appeared out of nowhere.

Claws.

Giant mushroom.
Giant mushroom that appeared out of nowhere - implying that it moved.

That made no sense at all.

Leila got back up to her feet at the site of her fall to evade the swing of the claw on the elongated appendage. A subsequent swing was intercepted by Harper with a swing of his sword, severing the claw.

Which then grew back.

Giant mushroom with claws that grow back at a rate detectable by eyesight.

That made even less sense.

The monster shrieked, the fibre-y tendrils that composed its body writhing angrily as if having emotions of their own.

Her amulet was glowing. Leila reacted, without taking the time to actually acknowledge that she was reacting. It was as if the amulet was controlling her mind - while that most certainly wasn’t the case, it felt much like it - observations, decisions, the carrying out of decisions. No double-checking, no uncertainty, near-instinctive reaction time.

Leap to the side. Properly damp collision with ground. Propell body in opposite direction, move out of visual range of opponent. Reach for arrow in process.

Splashing sounds were heard as Harper was tossed into the lake. The monster let out a shorter hiss, then - as if suddenly acknowledging the other humans as threats as well - turned around to face the other three humans. It hesitated for one moment and suddenly began to accelerate - towards them, at an alarming rate.

Draw. Anchor.

A suitable estimate of the mass of a humongous mushroom. Evaluate speed as a function of time. Curvature of trajectory negligible at short range.

Aim.

Weight of an arrow and its speed. Just barely enough to -

- it would be hard to see an arrow travelling through the air at that velocity and these lighting conditions, but a result was evident as observed through the humming of a still vibrated bowstring, the dull sound of an impact, an unpleasant roar originated from the monstrosity of a mushroom that staggered in its steady, rapid advance.

Conclusion: Giant mushroom with claws that is now utterly pissed off due to an arrow sticking through its face.

Inadi was the first to call, and give his opinion on going forward. Ace grinned in the dark, but then her attention turned to the soft glow that illuminated around someone's chest. Hearing the voice to match the figure, Ace only smiled more. "Harper! You're in my group, cool!" It would be nice to have a familiar face in the group. It meant that there would be someone easy to talk to, although Inadi seemed like a very curious person- at least all the questions he asked her made it seem that way. She didn't mind the questions though,  they were innocent enough. She caught the rather quiet figure off to the side and after a flash of light, she noticed it was Leila. "Are you alright Leila?" The redhead still didn't know her that well, but she assumed she'd get to know all three of them a little better (maybe excluding Harper) now that they were stuck in a cave together.

Zephy was their guide. Ace didn't mind it, but she did think it would have been more interesting to have someone like Vicky as their guide. Then, maybe she could show her how to use the whip. But that was besides the point! There were creatures to tame and monsters to conquer! "What are we waiting here for then? Let's go!"And of course, Ace led the way expecting everyone to follow. Her spot as line leader was taken by Zephy as she claimed to scope out the area for monsters and the likes. She looked around, seeing nothing in sight. And of course, her boredom kicked in.

So she started to whistle, listening to the sound echo. "Harper calm down. Heh, nothing is going tojump out at you." When Zephy started lighting the place up, she got a good luck at everyone before examining the crystals. "This is kind of cool." She watched the little fishes... and the ones that weren't so little and smiled. "Ohh." She tapped one of the crystals and they swam away.

Mushrooms? Mushrooms. Those were... Odd. "Hey... Harper...?" But before she could deduce that mushrooms in a cave felt out of place even for Nowhere, Harper fell off the now moving mushroom. "Friend or foe?" That was answered when Harper was attacked. "At least it didn't jump out?" She offered as Harper found himself in water. It didn't take long for her to pull out the empty hilt. Her amulet began to glow and she grinned. "It was getting a little quiet anyway." Soon enough, her sword lit aflame and she watched as Leila shot an arrow at the mushroom. "Nice shot Leila!" But she knew it couldn't be that easy. Nothing ever was.

And it was proven when the mushroom continued racing forward. "My turn, my turn!" Ace bounced on her toes, pushing herself forward. She and the mushroom were running toward each other, neither slowing down in the game of chicken. At the last minute, Ace side stepped the mushroom in order to bring her fire sword to its stomach. The mushroom was quick though and managed to dodge- not without getting its arm sliced open though. It screeched out when it was hit, and Ace skidded to a halt. There was a small sting on her arm and she looked down to notice one of the claws managed to cut her arm. It wasn't too bad, at least not to Ace's standards. She wasn't bleeding out, so she didn't worry about it. "Tch, lucky shot." She mused and then turned to see the mushroom regenerating its arm back together.

"Cheater." She adjusted her hat and whistled as it started to rush towards the others again.

Surprisingly, the mushroom took the bait and turned towards the one that burned her. "I think you guys should- whoa," Ace stepped to the side before it lunged at her. "Plan- think of one. You know-" Another dodge. At this point, the two were going in circles as Ace dodged. "Kill something that regenerates." Ace finally finished, irritating the mushroom because it kept missing.

"Man, those defense lessons sure came in handy."

Is this was death felt like. It was definitely a dark place. And painful. Uncomfortable too. He felt out of breath. 'Wait? Why do I feel out of breath when I can't even breath since I'm dead?' Cracking open an eye, he was half afraid to to see if hell was in fact real and he was one of the unfortunate ones that had been designated to it. Not that Lesley had ever committed any horrible crimes or sinned a lot for that matter, but seeing where you would end up after dying is for sure going to be a nerve racking thing. Head heavy with blood pressure, opening his eyelids was not at all a very cooperative task. He felt nauseated and woozy therefore he decided to keep them close and just stay still for a little while before until he felt better. Sadly, it just wasn't going to get any better. The longer he actually stayed in that position meant more time for his blood flow to pool up in his skull, obviously resulting in some unpleasant affects. None the less, Lesley remained limp and hanging as he thought about what he could do to become alive again, still convinced that he had died.

Not quite exact on how much time had passed since he'd been drooped over like that, he was beginning to near the threat of actually fainting because of how much blood had ended up gathering inside the confines of his head. Eventually, a cooling sensation started to blossom on his left cheek. It was soothing for the first few seconds or so, until it escalated to an almost burning chill, then out of Nowhere(pun intended) a voice slowly snaked into the quiet of his drunken mind.

Hakuren:“Oi, Lesley? A rainbow’s supposed to rise and shine.”

Bright blue irises finally fluttering open to reveal themselves, Lesley swiped at the cold object and pushed it away from his cheek. Coming face to face with an upside image of a dark haired young man with a playful smirk, Lesley still couldn't familiarize himself with a face that he should have recognized. "My, my. I wasn't expecting the Devil to be such a handsome young fellow~" he cooed. "I wouldn't mind playing Devil's advocate if you were the master" And with that flirtatious commented he arched his back and curled it forward in attempt to give the Ice Devil a kiss. To his dismay, Hakuren's face and body was standing a sufficient 2 centimeters below, which was 2 centimeters too far. Enough to get Lesley's body sliding off of the branch and descending n top of Hakuren in a glorious entwining.

Giggling in satisfaction, he stared into Hakuren's eyes with a smile across his face. By now he had come to realize that he was not in fact dead and that the male who lay underneath him was actually Hakuren Zabluda, but that didn't change his perception that this boy was indeed attractive. The position they were currently in gave him all the more dominance. "Are you gonna push me off or are you just waiting for me to go ahead and do something?" he teased perversely with a mischievous grin.

Riley:“I will obey the guides! Gah!”

“… obey…”

“… guides!”

“Gah!”

The exclamations were slightly faint, but were completely audible from where the to were located. She couldn't have been more than a couple meters away from them. In response to her outbursts, the seemingly silent forest was eerily brought to life with caws of unknown birds that sounded like crows. Lesley was no longer looking at Haku, but had his head up, yet he was still planted on all fours over the poor guy. Creepy creatures scuttled through the bushes which caused him to cringe in disgust and uneasiness followed by another momentary peace. Squinting his vision, he surveyed the surroundings before picking up on another noise, but this time it was more alarming. It was a 'thudding' noise, quiet as a whisper and first, but it rapidly began to increase in volume, to the point that the mossy ground itself was vibrating beneath him. rising up to an upright position, he grabbed Hakuren's hands and pulled him up as well.

“RAAAAAAAAAAGH!”

At first, it wasn't very clear exactly where the heck this thing was coming from, until trees were visibly starting to part, snapping like mere twigs because of this green, orc like creature stomping towards them, leaving destruction and extermination along its path. Lesley stared wide eyed and fear, his jaw open and his legs trembling in shock. Then it paused, picked up one of the fallen trees it had killed and chucked it at them. The trunk probably weighed a couple thousands pounds and he wasn't at all prepared to test out if the prediction was true. crouching down in the nick of time, Hakuren and Leon had done the same in order to avoid the attack. In anger, it growled again in frustration at its missed offensive and positioned itself in a fighting stance apparently ready for combat.

"Uh, I think it wants to fight.." Lesley squeaked from behind Hakuren. He had his hands planted on the male's shoulders who was currently observing their new found task. The pink haired bi was just hoping the other human would serve as a good defense barrier in case the ogre decided to chuck another thousand pound tree at them. By now, Riley and Jasper had joined them, emerging from a wall of purple bushes in time to see the warrior hurl wood at the boys.

Staring up at the crystals above them, Inadi couldn't help but feel captivated by the beauty around him. Standing up he looked to the light blue that covered the place made everything glow a special hue that he had never seen before in rocks and the water near them. “Amazing.” He whispered to himself as he stared at the roof and down at a nearby wall to the cave. There were smaller crystals that seemed to reflect the light back and illuminate when the bigger ones were bashed. Inadi smiled as he put his spear to his side and began following the rest of the group. It had been so long since he had gone out to see the stars since he came to Nowhere. This suited as a worthy replacement in his eyes.

He stared back at Harper and Leila to his right. The girl had been quiet the entire time it seemed and it didn't look like she was going to be talking any time soon either. It didn't bother Inadi at all, but it left him curious as to what she must be thinking. And Harper made him somewhat concerned with his earlier comment about fighting the bears or other creatures that could be in the cave. Inadi could smell false courage when it was around. He knew how to show it all too well. He was nervous for the boy three years his junior. He gave him a pat on the shoulder as if to try and give him support, though he didn't give any words of encouragement to it either. He was never good at speeches.

Staring at the walls and fish in the ponds in the cave while Zephy continued to scout ahead made him forget about the dire straights they had just escaped from a few minutes prior. Wolves outside made entirely out of elemental properties. And worse yet the rest of their group was either lost in the woods with those things or maybe already....Inadi quickly shook his head as he leaned down towards a pond that Ace had been standing over watching one of the large fish that occupied it. He cupped water in his hands and quickly splashed his face to get the thoughts out of his mind. Last thing he needed was to start having doubts. He looked over to Ace and a flush came over his face. Thankfully the water was so cold it didn't feel like it to him, and it was so dark no one would be able to see it. The new outfit she had gotten since coming to Sol, needless to say the leather certainly fitted her figure. He quickly pushed up on his spear and began jogging to catch back up with Zephy, all the while muttering to himself in a hushed and quick tone.

“Focusonthejob. Focusonthejob. She'sapersonnoteyecandy. She'sapersonnoteyecandy.”

Looking ahead of him, he saw that Harper had found a small path through some large mushrooms. Letting out a groan Inadi began following as well. He hated fungus, it always gave him the creeps. He had seen the damage that fungus and mushrooms could do to trees and other things. No telling what all this stuff could do. Sadly, it turned out to do a lot more damage than he hoped.

Suddenly a Mushroom Man began attacking poor Harper. Inadi began quickly running down to get beside the boy and watched as the hand of the creature was removed by force. Just as he was about to congratulate him, suddenly the thing had regrown the appendage. Terrific. A regenerating monster. As if this day could any better. As Harper was thrown into a body of water nearby, it seemed that the ugly thing in front of the rest of the group was aware that they were there.

The creature charged after Inadi, to which he rolled out of the way, keeping his spear gripped in both his hands tightly. The further this thing stayed from him the better, especially not knowing what else this thing could do. He hated not knowing what things were capable of. There was no way to plan around it.

As Leila and Ace began battling with the creature, Inadi felt it was his job to check on their fallen comrade. Running to where the splash was heard, Inadi was able to find Harper quickly and pulled him out of the small pond he was sent to. He knelt down to check if he was okay and tried his best to check for any injuries that may have occurred. After doing what he could he gave Harper a pat on the back and stood up, grabbing his spear off the ground. “Alright Harper, just hang back until you get your wind back. This thing ain't going away for a while, so it's best if we have you at your best rather than you hurry out there and get yourself hurt.” He told him, almost like an older brother of sorts, as he began running towards the fungus that was attacking Ace.

Trying to judge Ace's movements as the Mushroom Man continued to swing away, Inadi tried to wait for an opening with its back turned. Waiting for the right moment, he finally caught it and charged with his spear extended. He thrust the thing in and a loud screech bellowed through the cave and Inadi felt a surge of pride extend through him. He quickly pulled the spear out, the barb getting another good chunk out of the beast as he watched it fall to a knee. Suddenly that smirk on Inadi's face disappeared as the hole he had just made began to heal up and the big nasty claw the thing hand reached up and pulled the arrow Leila had just hit it with out of its head.

Nervously, Inadi decided it was best to go with a last resort. He began focusing on his hand, trying to summon his powers to at least knock the thing back. As the bolts began forming, something wrong happened. Rather than staying put on his hand, the lightening seemed to jump up his arm and to other parts of his body, actually shocking him. The pain quickly hit and it knocked Inadi out of his focus, his screams of pain almost matching what had just been bellowed by the beast just a few seconds prior. Inadi looked down at himself and saw something he should have recognized.

The water. He was still wet from splashing his face and pulling Harper from out of the small pond nearby. The lightening must have reacted to it as a conductor and shocked him as well. Silently damning himself he was brought out of his thoughts after being grabbed by big nasty claws. Luckily they didn't pierce his skin, but the covered his whole body. Like any other fungus, this thing must have been able to grow certain parts of itself bigger to fix problems it faced. In this case a stupid thunder mage who failed to recognize he had become his own conductor. Inadi hated not knowing things in advance.

His spear was dropped from his hand as he was lifted up and Inadi began feeling pressure crushing his chest and arms. He grunted and eventually screamed in pain as he felt his shoulders being pushed together and his chest being caved in, all the while seeing none of the light blue that filled the cave and only the sickening yellow of the Mushroom Man.

Someone grabbed onto him and yanked him out of the pond.

Harper let out a few coughs before taking in a shaky breath of air. The boy fumbled with his slipping glasses then focused on the person who had helped him out. "T-Thanks," he stated through chattering teeth. He soaked to the bone and he had water in his boots as well. "I'm fine," he refused to stand back and watch as his friends dealt with some giant mushroom monster. He ran a hand through his wet hair and caught his breath, the boy had mumbled another thank you, but by the time he had said it, Inadi had run off.

Everything happened so fast and soon a battle cry echoed throughout the cave.

The giant mushroom monster had half a spear sticking out of it's stomach. Had they actually managed to put it down? A smile made its way to the boy's face, but before he could congratulate everyone that mushroom creature simply regenerated. Inadi attempted to shock it with a bolt of electricity, but wound up yelling out in pain, then things took a turn for the worse and Harper was running towards the creature, his hands clenched around his sword's hilt.

More screams filled the room...if he didn't hurry, they'd be witnessing another death.

His amulet began to glow and Harper flung his sword at the creature. It sliced through the air like a Frisbee and caught the creature right above it's knee. The sword sliced through then clattered against one of the many blue Crystals. The mushroom fell to the ground with Inadi but raised both hands to shield its eyes, giving the older boy just enough time to get out of the thing's reach.

"Electricity..." Harper mumbled. "Ace, Inadi, Leila, what if we get it to fall in the pond!" He yelled before dashing towards his fallen sword. The liquid in his amulet had fallen a little below half now. Meanwhile, the fallen mushroom grabbed at a rock with it's clawed hands, its missing leg regenerating as quickly as its hand had.

Harper grabbed his sword's hilt before something grabbed onto his other wrist. The boy was yanked back and flung towards the other side of the chamber. He let out a loud yelp then rolled across the damp floor, skinning a knee and an elbow in the process. The boy screwed his eyes shut, pressed his cheek against the cool mud, and waited for the pain to subside.

"Shhhheeeeeeeeeessssss! Krackkkkkshh!" Several vines swung at the Lost Souls as yellow eyes grew even brighter. The mushroom man decided to pick them off one by one instead and for now, he rushed towards the archer with maddening speed.

Ace frowned when Inadi was grabbed. "Hey, put him down!" The mushroom changed its course and attacked the poor kid with glasses. It was bad enough he had electrocuted, now he was being attacked. She did not approve, not one bit. Harper decided to step forward next, and managed to cut his leg off. It worked... but not for long. The leg regenerated and Harper was flung to the other side. She looked back, making sure he was still moving before she took the chance to fight again.

No matter where they would cut, the area would be replaced with new plant matter. Electrocuting it might work, but it also reminded her of a conversation she had one upon a time ago. Ace had forgotten with whom she spoke with, but that didn't matter at the moment.

"I don't care what you say! There is no way to beat him- even if he wasn't a superhero!"
"Here's a little life lesson for you: If you think it's impossible to kill, try cutting out its heart or cutting off its head."

Grant it, that was just a conversation about superheroes and their weaknesses... but it could probably apply to the situation now. She didn't notice the vine that wrapped around her ankle until it was too late. "My hat!" Ace was lifted upside down and her hat fell to the floor. The mushroom didn't look very happy as it held her up. Instead of attacking, she just let her amulet refill... and she braced for impact when she was tossed off to the side. Unfortunately, her fall wasn't eased when she was thrown and her bracing for impact caused a new sprained wrist. ".. Ow." At least it wasn't her sword fighting hand... But it still may have caused a problem. Oh well.

Ace sat up, looking around for her possession. Unfortunately, with the mass of vines sprouting from everywhere, it was hooked on to one of them. "Of course..." Now, Ace was focusing on a completely different goal rather than getting it into the water. She stood, grabbing her sword with both hands. "Bad idea, bad idea." She sucked in a breath and let go of the sword, keeping it in her right hand. So maybe it hurt a little more than she thought... Quite possible that it was more than sprained. But! Ace wasn't going to let that mushroom keep her hat! With one hand she was going to fight. Another thing she refused was to sit back and watch as the other three fought. That wasn't going to happen either. The last thing Ace wanted to be was a burden to the others, "And it's just a little sprain." She mumbled and watched as her sword lit aflame once more.

Vines lashed out, and she made it a sport to cut them down. "One... Two!...Three! Four! Fi-" Ace was knocked down by the fifth one. One vine away from getting her hat. "Hey, Leila. Do you think you can shoot that thing in its eye... or at least in those glowy things that look like eyes. If it works, me and Harper can pushing it into the water so Inadi can shock it. And if all else fails, we can try to cut its head off or something." While, the other three thought that over, Ace maneuvered through lashing vines in order to get her hat.

"Hey, Leila. Do you think you can shoot that thing in its eye... or at least in those glowy things that look like eyes?

The fight scene was now a mess. With all the mycelium shooting through the air here and there slashing in every direction, it was a little hard to keep track of all that was going on. There were bursts of light and some sizzling sounds and the howls and cries of both the humans and the monstrosity of a fungus. Leila did, however, hear Ace’s call as the swordsman was busy fending off the aggressive mushroom tissue.

Arrow to the mushroom’s eye.

Leila considered the possibilities of such a course of action, while she also devoted much of her attention to evading the attacks herself. The monster was hurling its claws around and continuously moving as it launched the vines, and it took Leila much effort to arrange steps to keep herself out of the hit zone of each offense. Ace was also too close to the mushroom for Leila to be sure not to accidentally hit her, and Leila was also too far away herself. Moving target, distractions, and a lack of foothold meant that it would be near impossible to pull of a feat as Ace instructed.

Unless….

Leila jumped onto a nearby rock, just as another vine crashed into the wall behind the space on which she was just standing. Crouching on the little boulder gave her enough time in a stable position, even if the window didn’t last for long. She reached into her quiver and pulled out two arrows. Under the light of the fluorescent blue crystals, the yellow beams from the monster’s eyes, and the dim green light from the trinket on her necklace, she drew and took aim while keeping the other arrow held between two fingers of her right hand.

Modification of plan: arrow to mushroom, not necessarily eye.

The resonating sound of a released bowstring, and a dull signature of impact as the arrow buried itself into the monster’s shoulder, throwing off its aim of another swing of its claws originally directed at one of the other humans.

Leila rolled to the side as angry tendrils of fibre tissue flooded what was her location moments ago, dodging them only barely. The focus of the glowing yellow eyes of the enraged mushroom turned her way. It knew she was there. She scrambled, in a series of moves not exactly elegant but effective nevertheless, off the side of the boulder and to the edge of the open flat space of the cave floor.

The monster ceased attacking from a distance and its feet started to bring its weight accelerating forward. Leila watched, somewhat nervously, as the mushroom charged at alarming speeds in her direction. She watched and figured. Her weight in comparison to the monster. How fast she could move. At this rate...maybe yes, if there was no sudden change in the rate of acceleration. It was also going straight towards her. Predictable path. a good thing. She had seconds to decide and her conclusion was yes.

In a series of maneuvers timed almost perfectly timed as the mushroom man lunged with it’s slashing claws, Leila jumped out of the way and clung to a ridge on a nearby wall behind her. She rotated the arrow in her hand into a reverse grip, feathers facing up and head in a direction perpendicular to her arm, as she pushed herself off the wall - in the opposing direction of the proceeding monster that hasn’t had enough time to change directions -

- and at the moment of collision she realized something went horribly wrong.

She only slowed the mushroom down to an extent with the first arrow she fired. She estimated it to be almost just enough to stop it completely.

The mushroom was heavier than she initially thought.

She saved herself from crashing right into the ground behind by clinging on to the rim of the mushroom’s umbrella head with all the strength that she had. She managed to hold on - she felt the trinket’s glow intensify as she did, and several times the monster swung its claws above his own head and missed just so narrowly - she kept low enough not to have been hit. This might still work. Just might. And with one time effort she swung herself forward just enough.

Stab.

Completion of second section of modified plan: arrow to eye of mushroom, not necessarily shot.

The eye wasn’t going to regenerate anytime soon if the arrow wasn’t removed first. The monster growled in pain and blindly continued in its rage forward - and Leila knew that was where her miscalculations would come into effect. The momentum carried by her lunge wasn’t large enough to slow down the mushroom to as slow as she needed. She didn’t have enough time to react now.

Having just lost its depth perception in a rather painful way, the mushroom stumbled forwards towards the edge of that region of the caves, the rim of its head bumping into the gradually lowering roof of rock - with Leila still clinging onto it.

She lost her grip as she felt the compressing pain on her ribcage. The tissue that composed the top of the mushroom was mainly soft, yet being sandwiched between that and the walls of the cave didn’t nearly felt like it hurt less. She tumbled down along the side of a sloped wall, not being able to grab onto anything to stop her fall until she came to a stop at the ground.

Can’t move. Leila panicked as the pain in her chest prevented attempts of getting back onto her feet. She remained collapsed there in a half-sitting position - she was quite surprised she was still conscious, but there wasn’t much she could do either. She tried to cough, but even that didn't feel acceptable. At the edge of her eyesight, she saw the light from her trinket slowly fading to it’s previous intensity - even less, as the liquid inside drained down to less than half the entire volume.

Inadi hit the ground hard as Harper sliced the legs of the mushroom monster out from underneath him. The pain he felt was sharp to be sure, but at that point he wasn't really feeling that part. Instead his mind was focusing on the sudden spasms of his arms due to the electric shock he had suffered from previously and how hard it was to breath at this point. He had just finished getting nearly crunched by this stupid thing for a good fifteen to seventeen seconds and it felt like it was a car being dropped right on top of him. And his constant shaking was not making it any easier to settle the pounding in his chest.

Hearing Harper's idea to get the thing to fall in the pond, Inadi had to say he liked to idea. The only problem was whether or not he would be able use his magic without it doing what it had done prior. Rolling away from the spot he had landed on and trying to avoid the vines as well, he began feeling his clothes and skin to check for any dampness. Every once and a while he would lose control of his arms but he was able to get a decent idea of his current status in regards to moisture. He seemed drier than he was prior, and that was probably due to the fact that the electricity had shocked it and made it evaporate. At least that was the best explanation he could come up with at that point.

He grabbed his spear off the ground and felt a vine grab a hold of his wrist as he did so. He pulled against it, fighting it pound for pound to try and release himself from the grip. It was a stalemate for the most part until Inadi used his free arm to rip and tear the thing off by force. After he did so he began standing up with the spear in hand, his legs still a little wobbly. It seemed the effects of his misfire were far more wide spreading than he feared.

Later, Inadi watched as Harper was thrown to a side and had a terrible feeling in his gut. The poor boy got himself hurt trying to save him from the mushroom thing. At first, Inadi wanted to charge the damn thing himself and stick it with the spear again. However, it seemed that idea was for not as suddenly nothing but vines seemed to stretch towards him and began attacking him. Swinging his spear at them, he was glad he found a weapon with a hook on it like this spear did. He was able to use it similar to a scythe as well as a spear. Eventually it seemed like these things were not going away any time soon, but he was able to find himself with an opening to advance and help out one of the other fighters.

He saw the sword of fire that had to be connected with Ace. And he also noticed a small hat lying on the ground even closer to him. It was difficult to say that this was a time to laugh but in the end, a chuckle had to be made. Racing towards the head gear, his muscles now finally relaxing thanks the the adrenaline running through them to calm the spasms, he slid and grabbed the thing off the ground. As vines began shooting out towards him again, he continued to swing his spear and knocked them out of his way.

He eventually removed the last vine in between him and Ace as he tossed her the hat. “I figured you'd want this back. It doesn't go well with the medieval armor you have on, but I'm not much of a fashion guy so I don't think it matters.” Inadi joked to her as he stayed for a short while fighting off more vines with her. He wanted to go over to where he thought Harper was, just to see if the boy was alright. And Leila seemed to be handling her business as well with the mushroom man. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed that she was holding on to the damn thing's head. As impressed as he was with the feat, he was confused as to how it fit with their scheme.

That confusion quickly disappeared as he heard a terrible screech from the monster and saw what he could only assume was the outline of an arrow. Cringing a bit at the feeling, Inadi actually grabbed his own eye in response to the image. “Well I didn't see that move as a possibility.” He said to himself, later recognizing the pun he had just used and responding to it with a disappointed sigh. He then saw Leila crash into the side of the cave and let out a nervous gasp. The vines were still attacking, but not in the same amount as they were prior. The monster was probably fighting with a panic at this point and was just swinging wildly with the things. Inadi decided this was as good a time to regroup and try out Harper's plan.

He turned to Ace and sliced down a vine that tried to shoot out at her from the side. “Ace, go and get Leila off the ground and keep that thing away from her for a few minutes if you can. I gotta go and get Harper so we can all focus and get that damn thing into the pond soon.” He said as he began moving towards where he last saw Harper get thrown to. “And try not to get snatched by these annoying weeds!” He shouted back at the girl as he sliced away at a few more of the vines.

Eventually finding his way towards Harper, he saw the boy laying in the mud with a painful look on his face. Inadi knelt down to shake the boy as best he could without hurting him any further, though he knew doing that would be almost as impossible as getting that damn thing to just fall in the pond. “Harper, come on and wake up now. We're gonna need all of us to get that nasty piece of fungus in that damn pond.” The boy said with desperation coating his words. This was a due or die situation for them, and if they couldn't even do this, no way would they be able to handle the dragon that was sure to come later on.

A regenerating fungus monster that blended in with the giant mushrooms in the cave. Wonderful. It really was their lucky day, meeting a Funguy in this part of the caves.

Zephy sat on one of the higher ledges of the cavern above the battle, wincing and measuring out another length of bandages from her bag as Harper skidded across the floor. A small pile of already folded bandages sat next to her, ready to be used when the battle was over. She peered down at where the humans were trying to avoid the mushroom’s flailing tendrils while simultaneously trying to attack. Most of them were sporting scrapes and bruises by now, while fire girl had a hurt wrist and tall glasses man potentially having bruised ribs. She hoped the other group was faring somewhat better.

“Oooh.” She watched as the pale looking archer girl stabbed an arrow into the monster’s glowing eye, before being squashed roughly between the mushroom cap and the cavern wall before collapsing against the rock for support. Now that wouldn’t do- not only could was she in danger of being attacked by the mushroom in that position, she was close enough to the edge of the caves that a scavenging monster might just sneak out and carry the girl off before anyone noticed.

The messenger straightened her cap, before standing up and jumping down to the ground from her perch via a series of blue crystals that stuck out from the walls, serving like a set of disjointed stairs. With a running leap, she jumped in front of the fallen archer just as the mushroom struck out blindly, sharp claws bouncing off the glowing amber shield that formed instinctively around the small girl.

"Don't worry, I've got her!" She waved, before frowning at the hulking Funguy before her. "Alright, off you go now!” She demanded, darting back to her feet before presenting it with a flying kick to its face. The kick itself didn’t do much damage but did send the mushroom reeling off balance, back towards boobie girl and the pond in the middle of the cave. Trusting the other to keep the monster at bay, she checked over Leila quickly. No breaks or gaping wounds- that was good. Still, she was rather out of it and with good reason, so Zephy merely carefully lifted the girl to her feet and somehow managed with a bit of maneuvering brought the poor girl to the ledge where her bags were to recover for a while, out of the reach of the mushroom man.

“C’mon, guys! You can do it!” She cheered from the ledge down to the regrouped hummons. Maybe they were tougher than they looked after all. “Show him what you’ve got!”

He wasn't cut out to be an adventurer...

The room was spinning and he felt, cold, wet, and drained. Harper wanted to close his eyes and disappear, but they couldn't give up. It couldn't end like this, not in a dark cave where no one would ever be able to find them. Someone began shaking him and the boy scrambled to his feet, a panicked expression plastered to his face. While he had been down, the others had been left with that mushroom thing. He refused to not be of any help, they were a team after all and he would watch their backs, no matter how scary their foes got. "Is everyone okay?" He sputtered before looking around frantically.

Ace was battling valiantly with the vines, and Leila was on the creatures head, clinging for dear life. Wait, what? He did a double take and nearly choked.

Harper soaked it all in with wide eyes and an unreadable expression, well, until Inadi broke the silence. The mushroom let out a wail and when Harper cocked his head to the side, he saw the arrow sticking out of the thing's eye. "Okay, okay," he took in a deep breath and gave the older boy a firm nod. "We've got this," his amulet began to glow and he ran ahead, mustering up all the courage he could. "Oh yeah, thanks Inadi!" Even in deathly situations the boy still tried to be polite.

Leila was tossed off the mushroom man's head but was quickly saved by Zephy. The thing had been blinded by her arrow and slashed at the air wildly. Its eye wasn't regenerating, this was their chance. Harper dashed towards the edge of the pond and focused onto the mushroom monster. "Hey!" It took him all his bravery to willingly call the mushroom towards him. "OVER HERE!"

The thing ceased its assault on one of the walls and spun to stare at him with its remaining good eye.

"Ace, do you think you can light him of fire? Maybe burning him will slow down his health factor?" Harper bit down on his lip and braced himself for impact, the thing was running towards him now. The crystal grew brighter than it ever had and just before the creature could bring down its claws, he blocked the attack perfectly and pushed forward. The mushroom man staggered back, nearly slipping on both its feet and Harper did the same, the liquid in his amulet shrinking to a third of the original content.

If he and Ace could cut off both hands at the same time, pushing it in would be easier and Inadi would be able to fry it.

"Ace, let's go for its arms!" One of the flailing vines knocked him in the stomach. He skidded back, coughing and gasping for air. He felt a vine wrap around his ankle, but before it could yank him up, it was severed by Ace. "Thank you!" Another vine swept low, hoping to trip the boy up but he leaped over it and ran as fast as his feet could take him. Vines were flailing all around, it was clear the arrow to the eye had filled the creature with blind rage.

Harper ran towards the thing, trying to stop, but the ground was slippery and instead of coming to a halt before it, he began slipping towards its raised claw. He let out a squeak and ducked as the swipe sailed past his head. A few seconds too late, and his face would have been clawed off. There was no time think, he spun around and swung his sword in a downward arc, it sliced through the things arm and a pained wail echoed throughout the cave. The wound began regenerating, but at a much slower pace. It was trying to heal its eye in vain and was swinging so many vines around that as a result it was putting much less energy into regeneration.

He stared at the writhing arm and smiled, they could do this! They could definitely do this!

Harper was feeling a surge of confidence, well, until one of the vines grabbed him by the waist and slammed him into the nearest wall.

The mushroom monster decided to pour all of his energy into offense and his arm didn't grow back. He turned to look at Ace with his remaining good eye and hissed, angrily, even more vines than before assaulting whatever it could grab.

It had been immensely hard for Leon to keep track of what was happening – one moment, he was whining about the altitude of the dragons’ lair and the next he was being embraced by the air. And all that air was rapidly rushing past him as he fell, fell and fell. The whereabouts of his companions was utterly lost on him as he fell off the mountain – he had predicted it, dammit! – and rushed towards the forest below, his face utterly blank and devoid of emotion. The only thing that was currently registered in his mind was ’I’m falling. Three seconds later and a hundred meters or so closer to his death, his brain posed another question. ’What am I going to do about this?’

Eventually, after two more seconds, Leon concluded that dying would be most inconvenient. Not only didn’t he want to be splattered across the forest’s grassy floor, it’d make burying him that much harder. Seeing as how he was currently in freefall with nothing to catch his fall and spare him the painful death, Leon decided to use his amulet’s power.

That is, until Hakuren decided to latch on as he quite literally appeared out of thin air. Leon gave the boy a blank look before heeding the older boy’s request. Concentrating on the sensation of air rushing past him, Leon slowly but surely slowed the wind, taking control of the air directly beneath them. By now, they were only twenty feet or so above the ground, allowing Leon to steadily lower them down to a soft, comfortable landing. Once he and Hakuren were out of immediate danger, Leon lay on the grassy ground much like he’d done when he’d fallen off Candycane.

He absently noted a distant female’s voice, the cawing of birds and, most apparent of all, Lesley and Hakuren’s shenanigans in one corner. Leon’s eyes momentarily flitted towards his friend and his ambiguous companion, before they went back up towards the sky. Speaking of the sky, it looked extraordinarily cloudless today, and was that a sun? Leon had never noticed a sun anywhere else in Nowhere –

“Holy mother of –” Leon scrambled up at the monstrous roar that assaulted his eardrums. He was met with the sight of a hideous orc, another creature that could possibly either grant him the painful death he had just been spared off, or be drooled on. Again.

Just in the nick of time, Leon ducked out of the way of the orc’s tree, just as Jasper and Riley emerged from a clump of bushes. Where were the others? Had they fallen in the same general area? Were they even alive? Leon didn’t have time to dwell on that question as he quickly skittered behind the pink-haired 6’4 human (was it a he or she?), absently noting that they had created a train of sorts with Hakuren in the front, Lesley in the middle and Leon at the back. And Leon liked it right at the back, just where he could make a lucky escape if the troll thing decided to lumber up and attack with another tree.

A glance at his amulet made Leon sigh. “Oh for the love of God…” A little less than a tenth of it had drained away when he’d only harnessed the air for around 5 seconds. What a crappy amulet. He figured his best course of action would be to strike at opportune times, yet only if his companions provided enough of a distraction. And if that failed… well, Leon had a very shiny, cylindrical piece of gold delicately balanced on his head. Shiny enough to cause distraction. He only hoped he didn’t have to use his precious crown as a beacon but knowing his luck, he probably would have to. Still, it didn’t dissuade him from sticking to Lesley and praying to whatever deity decided to listen in – mostly for his crown, but for the overall situation as well. He only stopped momentarily, to make a final comment.

“Alright, now we’re gonna die. Unless you move away from that thing. Hakuren-san, I think your ballet skills will come in handy here, don’t you think?”

The vines were proving to be quite bothersome to deal with. She noticed Leila pulling off the crazy stunt and laughed. She wondered how she managed such a tactic but left it alone when she heard Inadi.

“I figured you'd want this back. It doesn't go well with the medieval armor you have on, but I'm not much of a fashion guy so I don't think it matters.”

Ace caught her hat in her left hand and shook it off.  Placing it on her head, she playfully stuck her tongue out at him. "It doesn't have to match. It's a valued possession. And thanks!" The redhead stayed by his side for a bit longer in order to slice up some more vines in their way. It was all a waste of energy to her, and the redundancy was getting less than amusing. Not the fact that they were getting attacked, but the fact that they were doing nothing but slicing vines is what made this less amusing.
"We are getting no where with this! And why won't this plant just burn?" She said to no one in particular as she cut through vines, vines, and more vines.

“Ace, go and get Leila off the ground and keep that thing away from her for a few minutes if you can. I gotta go and get Harper so we can all focus and get that damn thing into the pond soon.”

Ace perked up with a grin. "Aye, aye!" She responded and gave a salute. "Off to help the quiet girly, off to hold the mushroom off her~." She said in a sing song voice as she hurried to Leila's aid.

"Don't worry, I've got her!"

She almost forgot that messenger was with them. Zephy grabbed Leila and put her in a safer spot. "Thanks! Now to keep the mushroom away from her." Zephy told them before that she wasn't going to be able to help too much, so the job of protecter was still needed. "Don't worry Leila, just rest up! I'll make sure you're safe!" And she did as she promised, to the best of her abilities at least. She stood in front of Leila's path, burning down all the vines that dared to come toward them.

Then, she paused. Her name was called, and there was a moment of opportunity to listen. "Burn it down? Hehe, I am fully capable of doing that!" Before she ran off to burn everything made of plant matter, she looked back at Leila. "Don't worry, just call if you need help!" With that, she went to help Harper. She looked down at her amulet, noticing it was down to a third of what was inside. She expected it to be much less than that... It didn't matter then because Harper needed her help. And she was bound to over use it anyway.  This time, instead of swinging her sword around, she held it over each vine, and waited just as the mushroom staggered back from the male's blow, Ace pressed the sword against the mushroom's back, effectively creating a fire, and cutting off its arm all at once. Thankfully, Harper said it before she had stopped fighting. By then, Ace was forced to stop. All of her pryo attacks caused her amulet to go to dangerously low levels. When Harper was caught, instead of her flames, Ace stepped on the vine and used the heel of her shoe to rip it. "Plants are still plants. Easy to rip."

She put the hilt of her sword up as the flame disappeared and was rendered defensive. The vines were frantically attacking, and there was no way she could dodge them all. One caught her by her legs and she tripped, falling on her butt, until it lifted her and tossed her off like a rag doll. She laid on the ground for a moment, regaining her composure. Experience or not, being hit or bruised still hurt and being tossed on solid ground definitely knocked the wind out of her. It was a smack to reality and it made her remember she wasn't invincible.

After what felt like a very short period of time, Panther awoke from their slumber and abruptly shoved aside the cold pillow, which had been pressed to his cheek by the ice mage. Albeit he had regained consciousness, Lesley did not appear to have exited the haze of slumber, for he stared at Hakuren in slight surprise for a moment, as if he could not recognize who was this upside-down figure that stood before him. With their gazes locked in this very strange manner, the green-blue-eyed youngster saw this and could not help but find it humorous, yet before he could comment on the silly cat’s resting position, his comrade spoke with a soft gentle voice.

Lesley said "My, my. I wasn't expecting the Devil to be such a handsome young fellow~ I wouldn't mind playing Devil's advocate if you were the master.”

‘Too much blood in the head, huh? Nothing gravity can’t fix.’ the young man sighed in his thoughts. Being called a devil was flattering, but playing in the woods with someone who had neither cushions, nor the lock required for the key to this mystery was something he certainly did not intend to participate in.

Speaking of the Devil, which in this case was gravity itself, LaBelle leaned forward in an attempt to reach their beloved Satan, only to find that it was impossible, due to the distance between them. Noting all the hints given from this individual, the winter magician had a pleased, perhaps even pitying and mocking smile across his face. Ready to take a step back so as to avoid any unnecessary contact, he spoke with a friendly tone, despite the amusement being completely visible.

“How about you start by getting down first.”

No sooner had he said that did his companion listen to his advice. Or was it fate? One can not be too certain. Due to the desire to grasp the lord of Hell and hold him in their arms, the rainbow-lover had gone to such an extent that their body was no longer well-balanced on the branch, which resulted in their own weight doing them a favor by making them slide downwards. Hakuren had less than a second to react, but he was no Speedy Gonzales, thus he could only stare at the mess, which was coming his way, his mind receiving the information, yet the neural impulse lacking the speed to innerve the muscles quickly enough.
Locks of pink hair came pouring over him as the two people fell to the ground. The black-blue-haired man may not have been able to evade this unexpected ‘attack’, yet was capable of using his arms and legs to ‘lighten’ his fall, in order for his head not to slam into the earth. However, he was still pressed down by Lesley’s body, which had spread out over him, the difference in height now a bit too evident. Having closed shut his eyes before the impact, the psychologist’s eyelids lifted carefully only to confirm what had been comprehended. Face to face, body to body, he could only be thankful that it wasn’t “skin to skin”. It felt like being in a pink forest, for everything to the side was blocked by gum-coloured curls and twirls. Something smelled rather sweet, as if someone had used too much lady perfume in the room, yet the scent was also mixed with a pinch of sweat, no doubt created from the climb up the mountain. The one on top was grinning with delight, honestly enjoying the current situation, whilst the male at the bottom had a peculiar expression. It was neither of surprise, nor of fear, yet the insistent smile had vanished and so had the little warmth that had once remained. His eyes were concentrated on the one in front of him, blinking not even once, calm and relaxed. It was as though he was attentively watching the news or a talk show on television.

With their friend remaining silent, Panther took the opportunity to speak first.
Lesley said "Are you gonna push me off or are you just waiting for me to go ahead and do something?"

It was rather obvious where this was going, yet with his partner being so mischievous and confident in their dominance over him, the ice mage decided to take up this challenge, seeing as he did not anticipate the chance to come once more in the near future.

Letting out a “heh” sound without even opening his mouth, Hakuren smiled slyly and used his right hand to reach Lesley. His pointer finger gently rubbed up against the other’s neck, slowly reaching the chin where they underlay it for a moment before lightly making their way sideways, which was to his right and to their left. LaBelle’s skin was quite warm, so much one would think that the person had a fever, yet it could have also been that Hakuren’s hand was simply too cold. In this case, it was both, but more so the latter, for the nature of his power not only made him incapable of being affected by low temperatures, but also decreased his own. This being said, the young man’s touch could make you shiver just a bit. It was as if his hands had recently been rinsed with cold water, minus the wetness of course, yet it was not the same as his scepter, for it was bearable.
His hand now pressed against the left side of Lesley’s neck, he pushed himself upwards towards them, only to pass by their face and halt by their right ear. If this human of an uncertain orientation attempted anything ‘funny’, there was no reason to worry. With his right hand now exactly over the carotid artery, mere pressure could close it shut, block the path of a good portion of the blood meant for the brain, which in turn would cause dizziness, and a further shutting of the other artery, which was on the right side of the neck, could additionally lead to loss of consciousness and even death. Even without his magical abilities, he knew that he could murder this person easily in less than a minute in their earthly standards.

“Truth be told.” Hakuren whispered in Lesley’s ear. “If you had enough holes, it would have been the latter. Since that’s not the case, I’ll ask you to move before I freeze a certain organ of yours.”

In the midst of their heated conversation, a voice echoed through the forest, reaching their and a lot of other creatures’ ears. If memory served correctly, it belonged to no other than the flame-wielding newbie, Riley. From down in the undergrowth to the treetops above, critters stirred to life, jumping or flying away as quickly as possible. They had been frightened by this sudden disturbance in the serenity of their homeland and hurried to run away from potential danger. Indeed, regardless of where they went, humans could only bring harm to nature.

In response the two travelers looked away from each other and towards the spirited woods. Yet the riot of the shadows ended as quickly as it had begun and all became quiet once more. Remembering what dead silence had brought them not too long ago, the young man in the black coat realized that the dime would not turn in their favor.
Shortly after, a the sound of footsteps became audible. However, they were too heavy for a human or anything around that size. Far too noisy for a night predator. The closest thing they resembled were a bear’s, perhaps even Big Foot’s.
Luckily for Hakuren, Skittles took note of the red alert and stood up, even offering him a hand, which the ice wizard did not refuse. He did not feel disgusted by them, but he hoped this little incident would teach them a lesson not to mess with the wrong guy, otherwise his irritation would actually become visible and that rarely ended well for anybody.
The both of them now standing on their own feet, the duo did not utter a word. Leon was sitting nearby, absentmindedly looking up at the sky, not paying attention to anything that was happening around him. Before anyone had the chance to comment on the situation at hand, a war cry pierced the air.

“RAAAAAAAAAAGH!”

What appeared was no other than Shrek’s evil Asian cousin on steroids. The sound of trees bending and falling shook the entire forest as it made its way towards the group. Everyone’s attention was instantly drawn towards the monster, which picked up a log and threw it at the three boys. All of them ducked out of the way and the object slammed into the trees behind them, making more of its brethren die out. Hitting its wooden shield with the hilt of its huge sword, the orc-like being attempted to intimidate the humans, for it was furios enough to enter battle without any questions.

Whilst this had been happening, Riley and Jasper had appeared from behind a couple of bushes, yet what was more important was that both Leon and Lesley had instantly ran to safety behind Hakuren, cowering in fright one behind the other. This put the green-blue-eyed youngster in an awkward position. Usually, the girls were supposed to cower behind the strong warriors. Instead of a cute helpless damsel in distress, he was stuck with two ridiculous ‘ladies’ who were using him as a shield. With a quick glance at the chicken and the puss’s amulets, both of them could fend for themselves perfectly fine. The liquid in his own had reached a hundred percent because of his rest. All of them were in perfect battle condition, yet those two pets were shivering like a leaf.

Lesley said "Uh, I think it wants to fight.."

‘No celery, Clouseau.’

Leon said [b]“Alright, now we’re gonna die. Unless you move away from that thing. Hakuren-san, I think your ballet skills will come in handy here, don’t you think?”[b]

“Put a rock in it, Feather” Hakuren hushed him between his teeth.

He was never truly the type to work in a big team out in the field like this. Usually, his place was high above, watching, directing, manipulating. Range was always required for a person such as himself, who could not stand long in a direct battle of brawns without brains. Such was his class type as well. Magicians needed distance to cast their spells, namely in order to avoid danger, due to their physical weakness. However, there was no meele character in their group. Each and every one of them was a mage. Considering the fact that his team was composed of two ‘handsome princesses’, a klumzy care bear and a reckless flame, Hakuren understood that someone had to bring some order around here and, unfortunately for everybody there, it was going to be him.

Standing roughly at 210 cm in height, the monster that was their enemy was heavily armored and equipped with a wooden shield and a gigantic sword capable of slicing trees like butter. In addition the many spikes on its attire; the long sharp claws on its feet and the elongated lower canine teeth that remained visible even when its mouth was closed, much like an upside-down version of a sabertooth tiger, contributed to its overall barbarian appearance. With a lot of body mass and perfectly formed muscles, it was obvious this being was either a tank or a warrior class. Even in an online game one could never be too sure who would prevail. Sometimes a meele type character could be overwhelmed by five mages, proving that there is power in numbers, yet in other instances the warrior could easily slash through all of them and more, proving that quality is better than quantity. In the end, it all depended on teamwork and dirty tricks.

Hakuren held his staff, which he had picked up prior to getting on his feet, in front him with one hand and smiled like any player interested in a challenge would. If they managed to pull this off correctly, maybe they had a chance against the dragon as well.

“Glacies...” he began by pointing his scepter at the orc, stopped briefly and continued “Oh, whatever. Кучи студ!”

With every swing of the object slashes of ice got sent at the beast. For something of its size, it dodged quickly, but with every step forward it made, it also had to move sideways and sometimes even back, in order to avoid getting frozen. As impressive as these attacks seemed, they were just for show and didn’t truly harness much power within them. They were an act set up by the magician, so that he could speak to his comrades, whilst keeping their opponent occupied.

“Leon.” he addressed the boy behind him. “Gather dusts from the ground with your wind magic and send it at that thing’s eyes. Blind that fool so he can’t see us.” Obeying the old saying that a man’s body could become iron, but his eyes could not, this would definitely work, if Feather did as told. “Riley-chan” Hakuren called out to the girl “Build up enough power and fire multiple shots at the torso. Don’t aim for the head. You’re likely to miss. Lesley, go protect Jasper. She can’t do it herself. Oi, Bear!” last he spoke to the albino behind him, not even once looking behind his back during the entire monologue. “Heal us up every now and then when you notice we’ve gone down to two thirds of our original amount.”

“Everyone.” Hakuren said as a slash of ice finally managed to scratch the monster’s leg and it noticed that this attack was fake. “Make a wish.” he grinned.

Already having captured the orc’s attention, Hakuren leapt forward and then quickly to the side, sending a couple of sharp ice pieces at the enemy. As much as he would have liked to sit up in a tree and make Hell fall on this thing’s head, someone had to play the role of distraction. Of course, he didn’t intend to do it for long. He would switch with Leon as soon as the blinding wind spell was done. However, for now he circled at a good distance around the monster, sending spear after spear of ice. Every now and then he would jump into the air and land on an ice step, in order to avoid an attack. There was no point in freezing the ground or create a garden of ice roses. If that thing could crush trees, a wall of ice would have to be quite thick to block it and creating one would take far too much effort and time, not to mention enjoyment.

"I think you just saved my life. Ouch...okay...okay, I'm good...you just saved my life. You're now a hero! Oh jeez, I'm sorry. Owwww, okay! Okay! I've learned my lesson! I will obey the guides! Gah! Seriously, thank you Jasper. I like living, so I'm really thankful."

Riley looked and acted a whole lot like herself and ended up making tons of noise as she moved around with a slight pain shooting up originating from where her previous cuts had been. Wincing and cringing, Jasper was starting to feel slightly uncomfortable as she jerked around. All the commotion she was making caused birds and unknown critters to weave and skitter in and out of the bushes that surrounded them making her shudder in uneasiness. The red head had also left two bloody hand prints on her white robe and the thought of someone else's bodily fluids drying and crusting up on her shoulders just made her feel all the more out of it.

Taking a couple shuffles away from Riley who seemed to be going towards her to attempt to wipe some of it off, Jasper just shook her head with a fake grin while she backed up, "No really, its ok.. hehe." She felt relieved when Riley seemed to get the message and brought up searching for their other group mates. Nodding in agreement, it was certainly a good idea to see if there were any others who had fallen down with them... and if those individuals were still alive or not.

Ask they maneuvered through the forest, it was quite a pleasant task with the glow in the dark moss lighting up their way as they walked. It was beautiful, but kind of scary. Almost radiating a sort of haunted house aura. Not too sure on when it began, but the ground was sensibly trembling, a faint humdrum of stomping could be heard from a distance. at first, Jasper mistook it for her heartbeat, but soon the footsteps combined with the sound of trees getting cracked was becoming alarmingly loud and its proximity closing in every move they made away from it. suddenly her worst fears were answered when a terrifying “RAAAAAAAAAAGH!” thundered throughout the trees. It rustled every plantation insight, leaves fluttering to the ground and even more animals scuttling out of their hiding place away from the roar. 'That can't be good...', she was feeling sick to her stomach.

Jasper stayed even closer to Riley as they picked up the pace and soon spotted the boys through a thicket of violet foliage. Parting the bush to create an opening, the two girls shrunk back in terror as they watched a giant tree trunk coming flying towards the three males, miss, and come sailing in front of their eyes and onto its fellow trees, toppling them over like dominoes. Large roots were yanked out of the ground and Jasper was way too afraid to even look and see what kind of monster was able to even throw that thing.

Inching out of their hiding spot, Haku, Lesley, and Leon, stood in a line Haku at the front. Jasper joined the line up feeling extra safe with three other guys in front of her for added blockage. The green-skinned orc made her turn green in the face herself. Usually, Jasper wasn't one to judge, but that thing sure looked hideous. It was even clothed in a suit of armor along with a weapon and a shield. 'What's his problem? We never did anything..' It felt like everywhere the humans went, creatures wanted to fight them at every encounter. It's not like they ever really did anything to provoke an attack. Maybe that's just how Nowhere worked.

Lesley, go protect Jasper. She can’t do it herself. Oi, Bear! Heal us up every now and then when you notice we’ve gone down to two thirds of our original amount.”

Taking her spot behind Lesley, the two scurried off to the side and Jasper sat down to regenerate her own amulet to be able to provide for the others. She kept a close eye on all of their amulets, mentally devoting herself to keeping track of their essence usage. Not wanting to be a burden to Lesley and hold him back from helping with offensive attacks, she shooed him away, "Go on. I can handle myself. Put some damage on that thing!" she shoved him towards the others hoping that the orc wouldn't see her and choose her as its next target.

As soon as they found the boys, a giant tree sailed over their heads.

Riley ducked, then jolted upright with eyes the size of dinner plates. Clearly, there was something wrong with this girl's head. "That was amazing!" She practically cheered, even though the tree had nearly sent them to the afterlife (she didn't believe in the afterlife).

The ground beneath them began to shake and birds cawed loudly as they made their escape.

Before them, was a creature at least ten feet tall. "Oh jeez, I need to get an interview." Another log sailed past their heads and she reconsidered. "Oh...I see you're the uh, shy type. No need to fret, maybe I can just ask for your picture?" She gave the creature a nervous grin only for it to roar, loudly. All wildlife in a ten mile radius began to scamper off to safety. "No offense, but you really need a breath mint." The girl coughed rather rudely before her eyes flitted to the boys, all of them cowering behind a confident looking Haku.

The boy began spouting out orders, and she had to admit, he sounded like he knew what he was doing.

"Roger! Roger Frosty!" The girl grinned and when Haku asked them to make a wish she laughed. "Jeez, what I wouldn't give for a photograph!" If she got proof of her adventures in Nowhere, well old man Rogers would eat his hat and she'd nab the job she was shooting for, easy. It'd be a piece of cake.

Her amulet glowed brightly, the liquid just a little higher than the half mark. Embers began dancing around her arms and soon the flame was licking at her stick, but miraculously not hurting her. Riley let out a hearty laugh, "sooo um do you work out a lot?" The orc seemed to be highly annoyed by all her talking and when it turned to look at her she sent two fireballs flying towards its chest. Haku had done a stellar job at distracting it.

"Jackpot!" There was a small explosion followed by a cloud of gray smoke. However, when the smoke ebbed away the orc stood grinning, a hand held over his chest. The gemstone engraved in his armband began to glow brighter and Riley gaped. "No way, I think it just absorbed my magic!" It stomped on the ground and the sheer force of it created a crack right where the girl had been standing, she hopped back and fell onto her backside, sulking.

The mushroom man wailed as fire began spreading across his body. It was a limbless, pathetic excuse for a monster now and it's vines struck at the air blindly. None of its limbs were growing back and Leila's arrow was still embedded deep into its eye, preventing healing of any kind. Its remaining eye stared at the humans with hate and it flailed and writhed around the pond's edge. They could end this now.

The vine that was pinning Harper to the ground gave way and the boy fell to his knees, gasping for air.

"Thank you...Ace." He pushed himself up and couldn't help but feel a little sorry for the mushroom monster. It let out the most woeful of cries, the hunter now nothing but a cornered animal. He raised a sword and sliced through two vines that wanted to grab at him.

In one last futile attempt to save its life, it flailed its vines around and let out an ear-piercing kind of screech. It took a few shaky steps back, trying to evade the humans. It's food brushed against the pond's edge. All it would take was one more tiny push and then it would be over.

Harper screwed his eyes shut, feeling sorry for it. "Now!"

For a bunch of humans that were supposed to put up a fight, this group was awfully meek. Well, no matter. Their submissiveness would only serve to make it easier for the orc, R’ktash, to gather them all in one fell swoop for today’s dinner.

One of the humans started sending spires of ice towards him, and while the cold sensation biting against his skin was slightly unpleasant, all orcs were born with thick skin and the attacks barely stung. R’ktash snarled and advanced towards the pesky ice mage who kept moving away from him, only to have a pair of good-sized fireballs slam into him.
As the smoke dissipated the humans watched as the remnants of Riley’s attack was sucked into the orc’s armband. Unlike the usual magic accessories so commonly features in games, his bands did not have the gems that they could have deduced to be the source of his power, therefore rendering the orc’s current immunity to magic unbreakable. He flashed his prey a toothy grin before stomping once. The ground shook and some of the humans fell. Another stomp and chunks of earth burst everywhere. Small trees were uprooted and fell over one after the other, but apparently that wasn’t the start of everything.

R’ktash’s colorless eyes focused on Hakuren and he advanced, his sword trailing on the cracked ground. As he got nearer and nearer the mage he charged, the very forest shaking with every step the orc took. Unfortunately Leon was in the way, and while at first it looked like the human was going to end up a bloody mess of guts and flesh, the orc skidded to a stop and used his shield to bash the human away. Leon flew away a few meters and crashed against a tree.

Just as he was about to attack both Hakuren and Lesley, seeing as how the latter was still cowering behind the mage, a tree of considerable size fell in front of them. It was both their barricade and a roadblock, seeing as how they were cornered against an even bigger tree there was no foreseeable method of escape, and almost as if R’ktash knew this he began slashing at the log to cut it in two.

So busy was he in his wood chopping activity that he left himself exposed.

Collapsed on the ground, Leila could only observe the surroundings through the little degree of freedom her neck still provided. She wondered whether she could have happened to have broken any bones - unlikely, most of her ribs felt like they were still there. On the other hand she almost would’ve irrationally hoped that her ribs weren’t there, if that would make it hurt less…

...she turned to look at the nearby scene of the ongoing fight, and to hear the cries of her fellow humans as they engaged the monster.

”Over here!”

”Go for its arms!!”

”Plants are still plants, easy to rip!”

...Ace, fungi are not plants.

By the looks of the monster, though, Leila isn’t really sure if it would qualify as a fungus anymore.

By the looks of the monster, it’s also noticed Leila and headed her way. A bad thing.

The instinctive attempt to jerk her body in the opposite direction sent another pulse of spraining pain through her upper body. She still couldn’t move much, not yet. The mushroom was moving -

..."Alright, off you go now!”

Then from out of Leila’s range of vision came a flying kick that sent the mushroom man stumbling backwards, back towards Harper, Ace, and the glowing pool. Being careful not to accidentally stress anywhere that still hurt, Leila looked at the deliverer of that attack and recognized her as Zephy, the messenger that accompanied them and later also ended up in the caves.

With the messenger’s hands supporting her by the shoulders, Leila managed to maintain balance, and the two started inching along the edge of the fight scene and to a ledge, temporary safe from the reach of monsters. The messenger did her best helping Leila, yet with the somewhat awkward difference in height between them, the few grunts of pain when she happens to have compressed or stretched an injured part of her body as they walked could not be spared.

Meanwhile, the combat raged on below, near the pool. The two swordsmen seem to have been successful in cornering the monster, in a plan to force it to fall into the lake.

“C’mon, guys! You can do it!” Zephy cheered.

The messenger probably gestured for the girl to sit down, but Leila did not. Instead she took a few short, stumbling steps to the side.

The messenger watched as Leila straightened her stance. The pain in her chest seemed to have lessened, and the amulet started glowing a bit more intensely again. She reached for another arrow and locked it carefully onto her bow, and held it out to take aim.

One more arrow. This one didn’t require many planning. The ledge was a vantage point. The monster was near enough the the edge of the lake. Just a nudge would be enough.

Just a nudge.

”Now!”

Harper called below, stepping aside and screwing his eyes shut. The arrow whipped through the air in from of him, and the monster lost its foothold as the arrow knocked itself sturdily into the body of the giant mushroom.

Splash.

* * * * * * *
Meanwhile, the glow from the amulet diminished as soon as she let go of the bowstring. The pain returned, even more intense than before, as the light disappeared. The archer stumbled backwards, her steps wobbled and she collapsed again, this time onto the floor of the ledge beneath her and into the messenger who was standing at the side. The emerald green amulet dangled from her neck with dangerously little remaining of its liquid, and glowed only faintly as Leila lied down on the ground.

The others should take care of the mushroom. If they didn’t, there wasn’t anything she could do now anyway...Leila thought as her consciousness gradually faded away.

Haku: "Lesley, go protect Jasper. She can’t do it herself. Oi, Bear!”

Almost immediately, the albino chic yanked him by the arm and tugged him near the crowd of bushes from which they had emerged. She sat down in a yoga stance with her eyes fixated on their amulets.

Jasper: "Go on. I can handle myself. Put some damage on that thing!"

The girl then continued to push him towards the unfolding battle and seeing as they hadn't even dealt one scratch on the thing, he figured it would just be best start putting his amulet to use, its essence still completely filled to the brim. "Alrighty! Make sure you keep healing ok? I'm gonna start using some big attacks on that thing" he liked having the reassurance of a healer on the team, it always meant an available supply of extra energy when one needed it. Especially in severe cases when someone was only left with mere drops.

Leon was busy making dust wave up with his wind powers and Hakuren looked like he was trying to distract the orc.

Riley:"Jeez, what I wouldn't give for a photograph!"

"What a weirdo.." he gasped aloud. Seeing a creature as threatening as that and thinking 'Where's my cam so I can snap a shot?!' Totally not a sane thing to be thinking about. Watching her form two large fireballs and send it exploding into the orc's chest, he had a slight pained expression for a split second until the attacks remnants, faint orange wisps, were sucked into a band around his wrist. Not sure if anyone else caught that, he joined the field to warn the others. By now, the monster was charging toward Leon and Haku, the floor rattling underneath their feet with every step. Soon, a tree to their right lost the secure hold of its roots in the ground and collapsed in front of them, unfortunately, Leon was thrown backwards with the orc's shield, but now a log barrier sat as protection between them and the beast. Hoping the trunk would serve to buy them some time, his hopes were slashed in half when a large sword began cutting away at the wooden structure.

Holding out his hands he pulsed rainbow beams at the orc the moment he saw the opportunity, but he knew the log wouldn't be holding up for long. "Care bear stare!" the colorful lights that were snaking around his arms combined together at the palms of his hands to send out one huge, prolonged beam towards the orc's face. The inevitable happened and no longer did the tree block the orc as it came stomping into their side. Lesley observed again as rainbow remnants of his attacks were vacuumed into his band.

"The wrist band guys! We need to get that off of him!" Running towards its humongous green wrists, he lunged onto the band and was struggling to hold on as it started to shake him off. Meanwhile, he clinging on for dear life and using rainbow beams in attempts to cut the accessory so that it'd fall away from his wrist. Whatever it was, it was basically making this thing immune to all their attacks, the band sucking up any damage they would've dealt.

Beams of color continuously springing from his hands, he managed to make a small tear at the top of the band before being sent flinging towards the mossy forest floor. Coughing a bit he got up and looked down at his amulet, it was dangerously low, but Jasper was already on it, her refueling energy visibly surging out of her own and into his.

Pleased to see that they were beginning to surge some attacks at the orc, her concentration still remained steadfast onto their amulets. Riley's drained a bit when she formed those orbs of fire, but it looked as if she still had a sufficient amount remaining. As the creature barreled at them, critters within the forest were scurrying away in fear of losing their life. Lesley had obeyed her plead and ran into battle. as of now, the orc was busy slashing away at a fallen tree that had successfully blocked its path. His rainbow beams were hitting it, but didn't seem to be causing much damage. She too caught sight of the wrist band as it looked to be absorbing much of the attacks, pulling in their attempts and leaving the orc injury free.

Lesley had noticed this first as he began informing the others followed by a full on jump onto the beast's wrist as he looked as if he were trying to cut it off. The orc roared and started to flail his arm wildly as it tried to wriggle Lesley free. Its expression showed signs of alarm as well, further telling them that the band was in fact a very important "weapon" of sorts. The pink-haired man blasted a bigger stream of colors and his amulet was getting dangerously emptied as he was finally thrown off board. Fulfilling her task as healer, she closed her eyes and generated white wisps that ramified from where she sat in order to fill up his and Riley's.

To her dismay, the orc had caught sight of what she was doing and came stampeding towards her, this time on all fours with its teeth bared, its fangs reminded her of saber-tooth tigers. It snatched her up, howling into her face. Jasper could've sworn she became deaf right there and then, spit shooting into her face and its mouth smelled like decaying flesh. The hue on her face discolored into an emerald pigmentation much like the monster's. Grabbing the end of her staff, she was close enough o its face and she jabbed the stick's pointy base right into the orc's eyeball.

Yowling in pain, she let go of her object, as it was fortunately stabbed into the thing's right eye. Its grip around her loosened dramatically and she came tumbling to the ground. Getting up, her legs were a bit bruised and cut, but overall she was alive. Hurrying as quickly as her feet could take her she rejoined the group. "Come on guys, while its distracted!" she encouraged. There was no mistaking it, her power was pretty useless in offense and her only object, the staff, was now knee deep in the orc's pupil.
