In the world of Remnant giant horrifying creatures called the Grimm run amok. Attracted to negative emotion, the Grimm prevented the humans and fauna from flourishing. Even more so by the time of the Great War, when the humans and fauna of Remnant not only had to defend from the Grimm, but each other as well.
The Great War can be attributed to a plethora of reasons depending on who you ask. Most agree that a central fighting point was the preserverance of self expression and art, something that was threatened by the war.
The aftermath of the war resulted in three major things. The first being that just about everyone began naming their children after a colour or after something that makes a person think of a colour in rememberance of the war. The second being the creation of the Huntsman academies in each of the four kingdoms; Illuminate Academy in Vale, Haven Academy in Mistral, Shade Academy in Vacuo and finally Atlas Academy in Mantle. Thirdly, the Great War triggered the Faunus rights revolution.
The revolution was fought for Faunus rights, who before the revolution were treated as second class citizens almost worldwide. In the end they won their rights and were to be treated the same as humans, although many Faunus still feel mistreated and terrorist groups have been formed in reaction to this feeling, namely The White Fang.
The Hunters' sole purpose would be to fight Grimm and to uphold piece within the four kingdoms in especially trying times. Their allegiance would not be tied to any one of the four kingdoms.
Illuminate Academy acts as a boarding school, with all living facilities provided for the students, from living quarters, to food, to laundry. However, the school is not exceedingly strict and, unless in a time of crisis, the students often venture out to Vale in their freetime.
That being said, the school is rather hard to get into. The majority of students have gone to combat schools in order to be trained to pass the tough entrance exam to Illuminate. However, going to one of these schools is not mandatory, and students can be accepted based on raw ability if they are good enough.
The first semesterer of Illuminate Academy is already well underway, teams have been chosen and lessons have been learned. With the upcoming Illuminate festival, the academy is sure to get a lot busier.
The academy itself is huge. With enough dormitories to fit hundreds of people and comfortable teaching facilities fit for only the best of of educational staff. It rests on a cliff at the outermost reaches of Vale. Airships are usually used to transport new students on and off the campus, but regular boats could also be used. The dress code consists of black suits lined with gold and accompanied by a white shirt, blue vest and red tie for males while the girls wear a red plaid skirt, black blazer with a tan vest and white shirt accompanied by a red ribbon tied at the collar. However, the rules on the uniform are rather lax and many students hardly ever wear theirs.
Out of Character Info
This is a RWBY roleplay set during the events of the series but with the characters of the show removed and Beacon Academy replaced with Illuminate Academy.
The roleplay will start sometime into the first semester, and the teams will already be chosen and have been acquainted with each other. The roleplay will start with an event that will bring all of the teams together and kickstart the plot.
Teams will be set up identical to the show, with four members on each team. Depending on how many people apply multiple characters may be allowed but if there is a large amount of people interested this may be scrapped.
In terms of characters the obvious rule of no overpowered semblances applies. Characters will not be based on fairytales like in the show and can have any motif of your choosing. However the rule of names relating to colours still applies.
For anyone new to RWBY who is interested, the wiki is a useful source of information, or you could just ask and I'm sure we'll answer to the best of our ability!
