More than anything else, Hermannus looks like the human equivalent of a cluttered workshop. His build is short and slight--just clearing 5'4" and 115lb--and his hunched posture makes him look even smaller than he is. However, his long hair and whiskers are dark, coarse, and except for the occasional brushing mostly unkempt; round, lightly tinted glasses cover the small portion of his face that his hair doesn't, and the whole arrangement gives him an owlish demeanor.
His typical outfit consists of a simple but serviceable tunic and leather breeches suited for traveling, but he adds on to that a great leather coat meant for someone taller and wider, whose pockets are stuffed with wands, crystals, nuts, bolts, screws, and other bits of bric-a-brac. Looking closely, one may be able to see thin copper wires threaded into the stitching. Leather pouches ride on his belt, holding more of the same, with one dedicated to a small selection of tools he finds frequently handy. He also carries with him a large backpack for his traveling gear, as well as larger items which don't fit in his coat pockets.
His left leg is gone below the knee; he uses a magical prosthetic made of polished wood and brass, which is usually hidden underneath his clothing. It has no special features, except that it responds to his unconscious commands to act with most of the dexterity of a natural limb.
P E R S O N A L I T Y
Herman is: - Not a particularly warm person; though he's not unmoved by the suffering of others, he's often too practical a soul to attend to their emotions in the way they might like, and despite being creative when working on his creations, he is frequently too literal-minded in social situations - Scatterbrained and absentminded; once he locks in on a task he often forgets tangential matters, like grooming, eating, and keeping previous obligations - Determined; despite his tendency to forget about "trivial" matters when locked into a task, he is willing to power through hardship and pain to achieve his goals
B A C K S T O R Y
Herman was born the son of a manor servant in Port Marian. His family--father, mother, and two older siblings--were comfortable, if not wealthy. As a child, he was attentive but quiet, and often faded into the background. Though he showed signs of a precocious intellect, he had few interests or hobbies, and generally preferred to sit and read quietly rather than chase his fellow children down the halls of the house. Yet, when the lord of the house looked to his staff for someone who could serve as a lab assistant for his arcane experiments, those same qualities were all the qualifications he needed to be recommended for the position above the other children his age.
For the most part, that position involved sitting on a stool in the corner of the room, waiting for the master to call out over his shoulder something he needed. Though most 10 year olds would have considered that torture, Herman was delighted. The first couple of weeks had been awkward, but once the master had gotten used to his presence, he resumed his habit of narrating the experiments to himself, and Herman absorbed that information like a dry sponge. Five years passed, during which his life followed a simple pattern: House chores in the morning, school in the afternoon, attending to the master in the evening, and--if the master dismissed him before the hour grew too late--nights in the library, pouring over whatever texts of magical theory he could get his hands on.
His quiet demeanor meant that few realized what he was up to, and they mostly let him be, except where his personal studies interfered with his duties around the house. The master certainly didn't realize that his able assistant was beginning to follow his experiments--at least until one fateful day, when Herman spoke for the first time without being directly addressed, to let him know that one of his solutions was unstable. The master's initial reaction was a mixture of surprise and irritation, that a common servant would speak to him as if he knew the craft. His second reaction was shock and outrage, as the slight teenager tackled him to the ground. His third reaction was terror and shame, as the flask exploded and took several other items on the workbench with it.
The study half-collapsed around them, and everyone--especially the master--agreed afterwards that only Herman's quick actions had saved them both.
The master escaped mostly unharmed, but the same was not true for Herman, whose lower leg was crushed in the wreckage and had to be removed. In recognition of the debt owed--and of Herman's now obvious intellectual ability--the master of the house made the young man his apprentice, and hired a tutor to oversee his arcane study.
For a time, Herman occupied a position of importance and respect in the household--though true to form, he seemed to barely recognize it, and focused mostly on his studies and work. Before his 20th year, the apprenticeship had become more of a partnership between the two men, and the master of the house--Baron Damien Erkens--became his first close friend.
Unfortunately that idyllic existence was shattered when General Guanyu's forces launched their attack. Both Herman and the Baron threw themselves into the defense of their city, but when the conflict ended Port Marian was under the boot heel of the invaders, and the Baron--along with most of Herman's family--were dead or captured.
With his hometown crushed under the weight of the General's occupation and everyone he knew either in a grave or scattered to the winds, he was at a loss of what to do next, and spent most of the six months idling in the manor house, while the occupying administrators tried to decide what to do with it.
Then, as if by serendipity, he received the letter from the Arnmagne City Academy alerting him to his admission. The Baron, it seemed, had enrolled him and paid his way prior to the fall of the city, then perished before he could spring the surprise. Letter in hand, Herman gathered what objects of use and significance he had left and set off from Port Mariam, intent on making the most of this last gift.
S T R E N G T H S
High analyical intelligence and creativity
Strong grasp of magical theory and mechanics
Talented and experienced at creating and using magical artifacts
Tenacious and determined; high tolerance for his own discomfort and pain in pursuit of his goals
F L A W S
Short and scrawny; will lose a purely physical contest to most people
Bad at people; can sometimes read them ok, but consistently fails to identify what they want, or how to get what he wants from them
Not a trained combatant; he has some "military experience" from the fall of Port Mariam, but that basically amounts to logistics and supply work, with one or two frantic back-alley confrontations near the end
Abilities are mostly dependent on his equipment; he has a couple of useful cantrips under his belt but given his training, anything more complicated needs to be channeled through a focus or a pre-prepared magic
Determination paired with physical frailty often leads him to exceed his own limits
A T T R I B U T E S
C L A S S
Artificer.
P R O F E S S I O N
Artificer/Arcanotech researcher
A B I L I T I E S
Has the ability to cast a couple of minor spells on his own (mage hand, prestidigitation-style effects)
Can produce magical items that create larger/more powerful effects, given time and materials
E Q U I P M E N T
Battle Coat - Leather coat designed and crafted by him; incorporates channels for magical energy that increase its protective effect, and can allow him to control the movement of the coat
Staff of Fire - Arcane implement he "borrowed" from the defense forces during the fall of Port Mariam. Primary purpose is offensive, but allows a skilled user to manipulate heat and flame, within reason.
Journeyman's Wand - Arcane implement used for creating magical items. Provides a variety of useful functions, including magic detection (to help diagnose issues with items), heat (to fuse or cut small pieces of metal), steam (to help put out fires), electricity (to energize items), and so on. Can also be used as a general-purpose magical focus, though not as effective in this role as a dedicated focus.
Miscellaneous - Herman carries with him an assortment of small magical items intended to produce specific effects, including: enchanted feathers (to slow a fall), salves (to heal minor wounds), talismans (to defend against magical attacks), and so on.
N E N
Emission type; final ability would be focused on remote sensing, maybe with a focus on sensing and understanding magic effects
N O T E S
Baron Erkins - former master, partner, and friend. Paid Herman's way to the academy.
@XxFellsingxX you know, I hadn't thought about it, I had just assumed in my head that he can. I'll leave that up to you and what you think would be more interesting to play.
Noble Arm Name & Appearance:[Angel Duster] is an M1 Carbine. In most respects it looks like an ordinary weapon, but it has two cosmetic modifications. One is wooden stock, which has been carved on both sides into a relief of an angel's wing; the other is the sling, which embroidered with fractal patterns in subdued, unsaturated colors.
Noble Arm Rank:
Power: D (It's BulletsTM) Speed: C Range: B (~300m effective range, no splash effect) Persistence: B Precision: S (Precision is dependent on Mikey's own marksmanship, rather than any property of Angel Duster itself) Potential: C
Noble Arm Type, Element, and Range: Transposition / Support / Long Range
Noble Arm Abilities:
Note: Maximum range of all abilities is the maximum effective range of the weapon, i.e. 300m
[Get It] - Objects shot with Angel Duster can be "captured" and stored in its automatically reloading magazine. The objects captured this way are not harmed by the impact of the bullet. Angel Duster cannot capture anything with a soul (i.e. people) or any object larger than Mikey herself, and it can only store 15 objects maximum at any time. Objects stored this way are frozen in time until they are freed. Objects can be freed either by Mikey manually ejecting the magazine and finding the bullet containing it, or via the ability below.
[Love Again] - Objects stored using Get It can be loaded into the chambered bullet and fired; when the bullet they are loaded into impacts something, the object appears again.
[Panther Like a Panther] - Mikey can load herself into Angel Duster and shoot herself at a target as with Love Again.
Misc Abilities:
Though barely a soldier, Mikey has had intensive training; in addition to basic military training, she's received additional training as a designated marksman, in addition to the intense small-unit training given to all NA wielders in the US Armed Forces.
Related to the above, Mikey is a talented (though not supernaturally gifted) marksman, and is only getting better as she gains more experience.
Mikey's favored sport of choice is free-running; she's been doing it since she started high school, and she's pretty good at it
She has a pleasant singing voice, and can play the harmonica
Personality:
*Likes: - Fruit cups with tajin and chamoy - Kimbap - Freerunning - Trashy fantasy/romance novels
Fears: Losing her family; being stuck in the military forever
Bio: Mikey was born in 2002, to immigrant parents living in Santa Ana, CA. The oldest of five and the first person in her family to have US citizenship, she lived a relatively normal childhood--going to school, getting decent grades, and so on. Her parents' undocumented status caused them some hardship, and her family was never wealthy, but overall her life was a happy one. The summer before her senior year in high school, her future looked bright, and she was beginning to apply to colleges where she planned to pursue an engineering degree.
Unfortunately, that same summer was the one in which her parents were threatened with deportation. Worse yet, Mikey was partially responsible; she had fallen in with a crowd of troublemakers, and her arrest for trespassing was the event that led the authorities to zero in on her famliy. Yet, regardless of whose fault it might be, the important fact was that her parents, both brought over from Mexico when they were young children, were at risk of being ripped away from her and her siblings, and there was no way her family was going to stay together in the aftermath.
Those months where her parents were held in detention were the worst of Mikey's life (at least, up until then). It was the stress of that situation which led Mikey to manifest her Noble Arm, and in turn for an Army officer to approach her with a deal. Join the military--become a gun in the hand of Uncle Sam--and the Army would keep her family together.
It would be a lie to say she didn't hesitate, but she also didn't see any other choice. She dropped out of her senior year of high school, enrolled in the army, and was put through intense training to bring out the potential of her Noble Arm. She did not exactly excel at this; though she had always been athletic and turned out to be a natural marksman, she was temperamentally unsuited to military discipline, and likely would have been discharged before the end of basic training were she not considered a vital military asset.
The last time she saw her family in person was during her Basic Military Training graduation, at age 18. Once the ceremony was complete and her bags were packed, she was shipped across the country to be attached to a special forces unit.
The last two years for her have been filled mostly with additional training; she has yet to get any experience in the field, due to factors including the US's isolationist military policy, her relative inexperience, and her superiors' lack of faith in her abilities. However, with the US now entering the ASEAN war, she has been earmarked as a "unit" that the Joint Chiefs can deploy as a show of support for their new allies without diverting any of the Arms masters they consider more valuable, and it's in that capacity that she's been seconded to Task Force Obsidian.

The Crow catches sight of his target from the skies, and as he does so, feels the buzzing in the air increase. So many shiny things here! So much more than he previously realised! It's almost overwhelming as the Crow sees all the ways he could attempt to stop this man in his tracks. However, when he took a closer look at the individual in question, something about him drew the Crow's focus.
Something shiny in one of the man's pockets.
Suddenly, the goal he had been given by Ashley vanished from his mind as curiosity and pride in his newfound abilities took over.
He motions with a talon as if he was trying to scoop something up, trying to hone in on that object in the man's pocket and pull it towards himself.
Strength - Positive - You triumph through force
The Crow, if the pile of cutlery laying on the floor of Mario's is anything to judge by, your skill with your new power still falls short of your full potential. In this situation, though, that turns out not to matter. You beckon the shiny object you spotted within the man's jacket. It responds to your command as if it were Thor's hammer, being called by its rightful owner (and when you think about it, if this guy can't hold onto his stuff, don't you have a better claim to it anyway?) The force you exert throws the man off balance for a second--he can't have failed to notice the pull on his clothing--but whether by coincidence or corvid cunning, you timed your move just as a teenager brushes past your target, and you see him turn to bark an angry word rather than follow the object's flight up into the sky.
What reaches your talon is a smallish leather wallet. It folds in half, but is currently inverted. The glint you saw was a shield-shaped object, painted in gold and inlaid with various other colors, silver predominating. You've seen these before, pinned to the clothing of strangely dressed humans, but you're not sure you've ever seen one carried in a wallet like this. Across the top, silver letters read IDLN; another line curved along the bottom reads FIELD AGENT. There's something in the other flap of the wallet, but you can't see it right away, because a cheap plastic smartphone has been attached to that flap with a thick rubber band.

@XxFellsingxX This sounds like a plain ol' Challenge Fate (ELE) to me. Your ELE is 3, so you get to pick from:
Judgment - Negative - Your past mistakes catch up to you Strength - Positive - You triumph through force The Hierophant - Neutral - You discover something
"Huh..." the Crow tilted his head to the side. "Well, I probably don't need that many-" As he said this, the ball fell to the ground with a loud clatter, save one lone steak knife which remained suspended in the air. "Er, yeah, that... that'll do." He reached out towards it and the knife came floating over to him. He grabbed in his beak. "I'll be right back!" he said... or at least, he tried to say, at least. Then he flew out of the diner, knife still in beak, and began surveying for the man in question.
Investigate Who is in control? - The Magician - Positive - You achieve the impossible
The Crow takes to the sky above the busy street to begin the hunt. They say an eagle can spot its prey a mile distant, and some hawks can reach dive speeds of over a hundred miles an hour. But this is your territory; even before your rebirth, no hawk or eagle could have matched you as a hunter here. Now, with your newly uplifted intelligence and the power of your soul singing through the hollows of your bones, tracking someone down here of all places is as easy as flying.
Your eyes are immediately drawn to the sidewalk about a block down. From your bird's eye view, you first spot the spindly goat creature that Ashley saw in her vision. Despite having wings, it's running down the sidewalk, pushing its way past pedestrians and knocking over objects placed on the street. Though the people it rushes past are taken aback, they don't seem to track the thing that just pushed past them. There's one exception to that--one man who seems to be locked on to the bat-winged creature--and it takes you but a second to determine that it's the man Ashley sent you to find.
What weaknesses can I exploit? - The Lovers - Neutral - You are faced with two paths
You know where this guy is and where he's heading. He doesn't even know you exist. There are a number of metal objects either on or adjacent to the sidewalk--bicycles, metal trash cans, car doors, etc. An hour earlier, moving anything big enough to trip him would have been beyond your abilities, but now...
While contemplating the possibilities, you spot something else. The man's suit jacket is flapping in the wind as he runs, and hanging from an inside pocket is something that gleams silver and gold in the morning sunlight. Your newfound senses tell you that the object is metallic--you may be able to use your Eidolon to steal whatever that is from him. If you focus on that, though, you probably won't have time to do anything to slow him down.
