"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Her breath caught when she felt the cold metal of a pistol against her temple.

"Put the heart down, and back the hell up if you want your friend to live," the guard said to Ellie in a rumbling baritone, digging the gun into Dream's head.

Dream squinted at Ellie, vision blurred as she tried to breathe. The heart, glinting in Ellie's hands.

The doctor, his face turning white every time she asked what would happen if they failed. Above all else, he said, they had to keep the heart safe. They had to, even if it meant...

She snarled, her boot stamping down on the guard's foot, a burst of light bruising the bone. He yelped, losing his grip. That's all she needed, and she tore away. But in her haste, she saw his free arm reaching for her, and she slipped on panicked feet as he pushed her off the railing.

She held back a scream, staring straight down into the boiling pit below. The guard wrapped a tight hand around her ankle, and Ellie could see Dream's other foot flailing; she restrained herself poorly from kicking the guard, desperately hoping she wouldn't die.

As her captor supported himself against the railing, his pistol pointed at Ellie.

"I'll drop her, I swear I'll drop her!"

Deep, golden orbs stared back at her from within the cave.

God, she couldn't breathe.

He was monstrous. The ground trembled under her feet as his rippling, massive body exited the cave. Thunderous footsteps left cracks in the dirt, his breath sent waves of heat creeping over her skin. The transformation was slow, but it looked like something from a nightmare with the way his long teeth were bared.

A great and terrible roar sounded from his gaping maw.

She needed to run. Now.

The House on the Hill

”do be careful, Luna. It would be such a shame if we didn’t see you again at the next meeting.”
Anya

Luna just gave a ‘huh’ at the subtle slight, tossing her jacket over a shoulder. Anya could say what she wanted, it was no skin off her back.

But what made her stop, rather forcefully, was Sully.

“I thought you wanted to be back with the group and the first thing you do is insult Drake? Do you have any idea what he’s gone through? We’re all supposed to be working together, not putting each other down.”
Sully

She could see the hurt in his eyes, the indignation, the anger. Luna bit her lip where she stood. Shit. She regarded Sully as the heart of the Coven, giving life to the threads. If the heart was upset with her, then she really had messed up.

Luna recounted Drake's story. What she had picked up from her spy tours. Jade… one of the first victims of the serial killer after them. Drake carried a weight that burned and seared.

And she was too prideful. Too proud to level at him like a human being, too prepared to dig at him for his slight against her.

“If you really want to be a part of this team you’re going to go back and apologize to him for what you said.”
Sully

Luna chewed on her teeth, pressing a palm against her forehead. So she'd be doing the walk of shame back like a little bitch. How did Valencia always avoid situations like these?

“She doesn’t run her mouth.” The White Suit chimed in her head.

“Great. Helpful.” Luna's mental voice muttered sarcastically.

Luna dragged her coat off her shoulder, balling it up in her hands like some kind of stress ball, before she looked up at Sully. She didn't offer him any resistance. He was right, after all.

“Fine… Fine, Sully. I'll go apologize.”

Like a little bitch.

She took a breath to steady herself, then, did her walk of shame back, finding herself back in front of Drake.

The coat was draped back over her arm, while her free hand dragged across her mouth, before gesturing helplessly to the air.

“Shit. I got ahead of myself, Drake. I'm sorry. I'm still sore about what happened at Kari's House, but I realize you were just trying to keep people safe.

“I came to the meeting with information, and no one has chased me away, yet. I'm… just trying to be useful. That doesn't give me the right to try and lord it over you, though.”

That was when she could hear Lynn, and Luna turned her head.

“With Luna we have a strong scout who has so much to prove to us…”
Lynn

Luna sweated bit, her voice going flat. “Huh?”

“Not only will we find the Wayfinders, we have the chance at finding other powerful artifacts and those who embark on this journey will return forever stronger,”
Lynn

“I've already done one suicide mission for you, now you want me to do another?” Luna asked, incredulous. “The Pit is suicide a dozen times over, plus some.”

Before she coughed, reeling back her emotions a bit.“Yes, I mean, I'm crazy enough to do it. But this isn't some comic book story. Leon, Drake, and I- well, I hope you'll give us some really good goodbyes, because we wouldn't be coming back. Not from a trip like that.

“I'm in no position to refuse you, but… you can see why I'm hesitating, right?”

”Look, I don’t know what makes this ‘Wayfinder’ so special, but all we have to do is find a half-decent Artificer, and we make our own version of it. I know Goro's work was special, but it can't be that hard to imitate.”
Britney

“Nora, we’d like to commission a device that is capable of locating people and artifacts.
Sloane

Luna didn't allow herself a moment's reprieve. Her eyes instinctively turned to Nora, cold curiosity in her eyes. If Nora wasn't able to make it, she'd have to part with a family secret. And she'd really rather not give Valencia one more reason to be on her ass.

”I imagine the whole group is in agreement that this is more important than a really long metal stick and a…”
Sloane

Aislin threw her hands in the air, “Yep, well. I don't mind waiting.”

“...an alarmingly sinister device designed for the torture and enslavement of Appar…"

"...Layla, what the fuck…
Sloane

Layla tilted her head. It was a completely logical weapon, one that would empower her against the demons she faced on the daily. She didn't quite understand why Sloane didn't see the purpose and intent behind such a request. She muttered stubbornly, more to herself, ”B-but I need it…”

Aislin perked up at the arrival of new guests. Old guests. Not-seen-in-a-long-time guests. She gave Layla a pat on the shoulder, trying to dispel the girl's gloom over her choice of artifact, before prancing over to Bé and Todd.

“Well I'll be damned, you guys finally showed up!”

She threw them a wide, light-hearted grin, before throwing her hand out to Todd, hoping he'd shake it. Bé, she didn't bother. The man looked as aloof as usual, but she still eyed him curiously, hoping his cold facade would break.

“Come closer to the crowd, we don't bite. At least, we don't bite much.” She joked. “We're expecting another magical faction to be joining us soon, so you'll be able to make a lot of new friends today.”

She could hear footsteps outside the door, and turned her head expectantly. But what came barreling in was not what Aislin was expecting. Her expression went from warm to horrified as she watched what appeared to be a boy smash through the door.

However, as Aislin took a few horrified steps back, it was Layla that rushed in, alarmed but not repelled. Layla moved past Leon, hopping off her stool like it was a hot coal, and rushing to Clancy's side.

An apparition?

She pressed at the boy- the apparition's chest, and saw some kind of stone lodged in it. Panicking, Layla's head whipped around, locating Britney.

“Britney, you're gonna wanna come see this. He's got something stuck in his chest!”
Excellent posts! There is a little bit of collaboration needed for my next post. Once that's completed, a new post will be up. I'll keep you posted!
It's always tough to write for Pia because I have no backstory to draw from and most of what happens is stuff out of her control that she's really just been reacting to. Still, I'll try to post as soon as I can

I'm planning on having another chunk of memory dropped during the surgeries, so it should be a little easier momentarily. Looking forward to your post!

Will try to get a post up tonight.

Sounds great, looking forward to it!
Great post, @NoriWasHere! Luna certainly didn't see that coming. xD

Ciara Ventura

Wingram, Library
@Nanaya

”What in the name of all holies do you believe yourself to be doing?”
Gulliver

Ciara gritted her teeth, staring him down. He dared to question the fury in her soul. The righteous fury, completely justified in this moment.

“Maybe that really is the play here. You kill me, and someone somewhere gets real mad for a little while; that's probably worth it.”
Gulliver

Ciara's eyes narrowed. Through her fury, playing like a flute in the back of her mind, a part of her ran a narrative that Gulliver wasn't Gulliver-ing. Was all of him a front? Was he a fake? Was he faking the fanciness all along?

Not enough of her cared in that moment to pursue the curious thoughts.

"If you really do believe in this 'two of me' thing, maybe the world only needs one, eh?”
Gulliver

And he dared to press himself further onto her blade. Ciara snarled under her breath, knowing exactly what this was.

He was calling her bluff.

And here she was debating on killing him or not. Just finish her problems here and now. Silence one more voice that bought this Astra nonsense, and condemned people like her.

Before she followed her eyes to the desk, where she knew a janitor was sitting at idly. How far would she really get if she let her anger play out like it wanted to?

Well. At least Gulliver had silenced himself on calling her an Umbralist. He wasn't playing with her on that front. Not pushing the line there.

She gripped the handle of the sword, glaring hot at Gulliver. Watching those devoid eyes of his, knowing that he already knew what she knew.

She wouldn't kill him.

Not like this.

With a huff, Ciara pulled the sword back, letting it drop into a shadowy hand as it moved to hover behind her. She glared at Gulliver before she picked up her book, turned on her heel, and stormed towards the front desk.

Deep breaths.

Before she placed the book on the desk, and said in a painfully calm voice, “I'd like to check this out.”

Then who are they...?

Alright, if it's just clever writing and someone we already know, sounds good!
I'll have a post up somewhere tomorrow or Thursday, sorry bit of a busy period for me since I'm switching jobs

Sounds good, thanks for the heads up!
Post looks good, Lexi! Can you please make an NPC sheet for your new character?

I'll aim to have a post up in 1-3 days!

The House on the Hill

[quote=Luca]”I can talk to the people I’m close to. I don’t want them to get hurt because of Emily’s actions. Maybe just me and Adora…”

Luna noticed that electrified look in Luca’s eye, and a sharp glimmered appeared in her own eyes.

“Like you, this one is not all what they appear to be.” The White Suit whispered in her mind.

Luna mentally rolled her eyes. “Tell me about it.”

”What did we miss?”
Britney

Layla’s eyes shone in excitement, and she looked over Leon to Britney as she entered the bar. “Hiii, Britney. Uh, can we talk later?”

”... Why is she here?
Drake

Luna smiled. Just smiled. With a quick movement, she tossed back the remainder of her drink, sighing as the burn washed down her throat. But before she could speak, Jack, surprisingly, stopped Drake where he stood.

”All you missed was a tangible plan coming together. Greyson verified something that Luna brought to our attention. We know how to move forward, how to find Kari’s notes.”
Jack

“Yeah, what he said.” Luna chimed, that arrogant little smirk never leaving her face.

She picked up her coat, draping it over her shoulder, before she stepped around the bar, wrapping an arm around Drake. Her eyes gleamed as she eyed up at him.

“Isn’t this great? You, me, and our friends? My, I really feel like I’m part of the team. It’s really great. And all done without you.” Her smug smile widened.

“While you were busy wasting the coven’s time, I found out key information that’ll push us down the right path. The path of the victorious, pushing us one step closer to that Father Wolf you hate so much.”

She laughed, pushing herself off Drake’s shoulders. She walked backward towards the exit, eyes never leaving Drake. Oh, she hoped she made him furious. Nothing would quite give her as much satisfaction now.

“And now I’m off to find a way to track down the Pale Horse and the High Priestess. Enjoy sitting around being useless.”

“Finally, if anyone would like to join Kenshiro and I when we leave to recover the Needle, let us know.”
Jack

Aislin was the one that piped up, raising a hand where she sat beside Layla. “I’m interested! That has me written all over it! My schedule is pretty free too!”

Aislin beamed to herself. Finally, an opportunity to hang out with the cream of the crop of the coven. A chance to be useful. And a way to help Luna, finally. She wasn’t as aware of Lila’s predicament, but if it had something to do with apparitions, she knew it was a sad story. Better to help. Besides, she was a week ahead of her poetry book, she could take some time to focus on what mattered most.

Layla watched Linqian walk in, and show off her new powers. An awed smile spread across her face, though she took some concern for the marks on her arms. “You must have been training realy hard, Jea-jee.”
