Avery's heart was beating fiercely, as Carolina put her arms around them and pulled them into a kiss. It had been a while since they had kissed anyone - the last person had been Sera, and she had broken their heart, rejecting them after learning the truth about their family. But Carolina already knew - already knew about the devil worshippers, about where people in Avery's family drew power from. And as far as Avery was aware, it didn't matter to her - it didn't change things.

So this kiss felt different - it felt healing.

When it ended, and Carolina pulled away, Avery's body was both buzzing and still. They took a deep breath, just taking the moment to look at her face, to study it, before Carolina asked what this meant - and kissed them again.

Truthfully, Avery didn't know what it meant. "Is that what you want?" they murmured.

Runa tilted her head, considering the map on the device. The sling ring that she used did require a location - a person wasn't a suitable anchor for its spell. It was honestly difficult to parse, whether or not this would work - she had never tried to divine a location by these means. Perhaps the electronic map was still a map, but perhaps it would resonate differently. Runa was familiar with spells where a map would be burned to reveal the location, or where water would be spilled onto the surface and pool at the location - neither of which seemed feasible with this Midgardian technology. "What do you think, cousin? I am unsure if this would be feasible..." But their magics were different, perhaps it would work for Klara where it would not for Runa.

Guin Stark

Guin felt sick to her stomach, as Pietro and Annie explained the situation to Scott and Jean, and the former X-Men confirmed how dire this was. She hadn't been unaware of this - she'd known for a while how easily this all could go to shit, how quickly Mary could just lose control and kill them all. But she hadn't been able to do anything about it, and with each passing day that Mary was more or less fine, the danger slipped away a little bit more. And it wasn't like she could build a giant gun to kill the Phoenix and force it out of Mary - she'd chatted the logistics with her dad already, before everything with Miranda, and neither of them had been able to come up with something suitable.

Not yet, at least.

She wished that she felt inspired, ready to go save Mary. Instead, she just wanted to go to her room, curl up into a ball, and watch TV until this was all over. Instead, she closed her eyes, and put a hand to her head. They needed all hands on deck. It was time to go save the fucking world - or die trying.

At first, she couldn't quite get a hold of everyone's minds properly, a giant ringing noise pulsing through them all. But then, the ringing cleared, and Guin got her message on through:

Emergency situation. Meet in the war room, X-Men. It's Mary.

"Oh shit, where're you from exactly?" Leda asked, her interest piqued - she hadn't quite caught Madalyne's accent before, but she could hear it now. She'd been born in Los Angeles, but had grown up in Southern England, raised by her grandparents. "I'm from Southampton," she added. She'd grown up with beautiful views of the water, so close to the sea. She missed it, some times - wished that she could've gone back, that she'd go back to her home country. But just as much as she was English, she was also Greek - so just as she dreamed about Southampton, she dreamed of Athens.

It wasn't long until she'd finished her food - she tended to not savor the food here too much, mostly because it tasted pretty mid on a good day, and horrible on all the rest. Leda nodded, standing up and stretching out her arms and legs, loosening them up to relieve some of the stiffness. "Yeah, let's get a move on. Hop on and I'll run us," Leda said, bending down slightly so Mads could climb onto her back. It was tedious moving any slower.

☀️ Nancy Parker ☀️

Niah was silent as they walked from the woods back to camp proper. Nancy could feel Niah's eyes on her back, burning with judgment. She shouldn't have been in the woods that morning, she ought to have been attending to her duties as praetor. She shouldn't have been on the edge of shattering at any given moment, she ought to be stronger for Rome, for Mads, for everyone - everyone and everything was depending on her and she could not falter. And Niah knew it. Niah saw Nancy's failure.

The cyclops followed them back, offering to help if needed. Nancy opened her mouth, about to snap and tell him that she needed nothing from a monster like him, but she thought better of it. It was Leandra's trial. Additional strength wouldn't be amiss. "How would you feel about beating the shit out of someone should they try to escape or fuck up their trial?" Nancy asked, completely serious, as they made it back to the Roman side of camp - and she continued on towards where Leandra was being held. "Potentially killing them."

??? - Tue. November 23rd, 2038 - Margaret Carter Institute

@BlueSky44@Kirah: For a man of science, magic was Arcade's achilles heel. He didn't even have time to react as Andy grabbed onto him with a ghostly, skeletal hand, his flesh rotting away where it held him, revealing the gleaming bone beneath, maggots coming seemingly out of nowhere to feast on his decaying remains. He staggered back, gripping the table the terminal rested on with his non-injured arm. "Y-yes..." he panted, sweat beading on his forehead. "I did forget something."

His eyes narrowed, before the corner of his lips twitched up into a smile.

"So did you." He turned, slamming a button quickly on the keyboard, executing a line of code he had had at the ready, just in case his help seemed to be truly incompetent. He should've known better than to trust matters to his sister - or that decrepit excuse for an android. Both Usagi and Ardere were obsolete. He didn't need them.

And even if Andy and Zari killed him, he'd still win. He'd go down in history for this - he'd be remembered for the blood on his hands.

@Patientbean@Trainerblue192@Natsu: The moment the music box stopped playing, the lights in the house started flickering like crazy, including the flash lights. The trio would be able to hear Gideon go "oh shit!" and make some noise from the other room. But in the flickering light, they'd be able to see something moving towards them, Andy Lensherr crawling on all fours, her head upside down, with strangely sharp teeth and slitted eyes like a cat's. No one had moved to hide or run, and without the crucifix thrown down in front of them, there was only the salt line - and it did nothing to stop the creature. It was suddenly freezing cold, everyone's breaths appearing before them. The EMF detector was silent.

Suddenly, Sabine would hear her own heart beating furiously, and see ghastly fingers come in from each side of her head from behind her, and gouge out her eyes, killing her instantly. The creature then vanished.

To Dorian and Mary Sue, they would see Sabine's dead body, twisted and covered in blood on the ground.

To Sabine, she would find that she was now a ghost inside this house, everything a soft grey - she could see and hear Dorian and Mary Sue, but they couldn't see or hear her.

And then, something horrible happened to all three - pain, excruciating pain. The pain of death. They were dying, with only seconds left to live. This wasn't a temporary death, not just another life lost. This was DEATH.

They were screwed. This game wasn't one they could all win - it was one that would see two of them dead, with one remaining to tell the tale. April only had one life left. If she cut the wrong cord, she'd be dead. Not just in the game, but dead dead. Her blood pressure was at an all time high, each pulse of her veins feeling like a thunderous drum. If Vicky tried to hack things again, they could die - she could be overwritten again, and kill them. Or maybe Arcade would finally have enough and kill them. But if they played this game, they'd die. There was no winning - each option had death lurking behind it.

What sort of older sister would she be if she let Zelda die - in her very first semester of school?

"I.... Do it," April swallowed, as the timer counted down, ushering her to make a choice - to risk her life. She waited till the last possible moment, when just a 1 was floating in the sky above her, before April closed her eyes and made her choice at random. There were only six ropes left. And two of them were deadly.

The cord was cut.

April's heart was pounding.

And the next thing she knew, she'd been launched into the sky - and then...

Then there was nothing.

Meanwhile, Vicky and Zelda still had to play the game. It was Zelda's turn. Five left, one of which would kill. And then, something horrible happened to them both - pain, excruciating pain. The pain of death. They were dying, with only seconds left to live. This wasn't a temporary death, not just another life lost. This was DEATH.

Percy narrowed his eyes, surprised by the stupidity of the others. Why had he done that to Chi Mai? He thought it had been obvious. "She threatened to kill us. I didn't want to give her the chance." He wasn't familiar with her powers, but given that she had threatened to make them explode, he hadn't wanted to find out if she was capable or not of doing so. Besides, she was merely unconscious - it wasn't like he had killed her. He failed to see why the others were shocked with what he had done - would they have stood by and allowed her to harm them?

He then focused his attention on the strange artifact - the pointed prism. It had different symbols on the sides of it, some sort of a language. He tilted his head, as the symbols slowly came into focus, as his mind translated the meaning. "It says it's called the astral prism - that it contains a small portion of the astral plane and... a person... It's Zari."

But before they could discuss that further, something horrible happened to them all - pain, excruciating pain. The pain of death. They were dying, with only seconds left to live. This wasn't a temporary death, not just another life lost. This was DEATH.

"That's all?" Leda teased. "C'mon, mate, use your imagination some - where are you going on holiday?" It was a practical list, an overly Roman list of things to do. And while they had been traveling together for - Leda actually had no idea how long - she had managed to pull out glimpses of something beyond the tightly wound Roman stereotype. It helped that Mads was a werewolf - she imagined that gave her a bit of a looseness, allowing the stick to come out of her ass.

Leda took another bite of her rabbit, tearing apart at the meat, separating it from the bone. Maybe today would be the day - day? - where they finally made some real progress. Maybe she'd get to see Kiera again - or even just feel the light of the sun on her skin, rather than this eternal shadow.

Nancy relaxed ever so slightly more, as the cyclops explained he was out here gathering supplies for Camp. He was claiming to be affiliated, at the very least - and if he was hostile, he probably would have attacked her by now. Yet still, even with her bow lowered and the tension released, she didn't put the arrow back in her quiver - she kept her weapon at the ready, prepared to loose an arrow into the cyclops' eye at the slightest provocation. "Something like that." Target practice didn't seem like the correct term - stress relief was closer.

She turned quickly as she heard someone approach, her muscles tensed as she prepared for the worst - only to be relieved, and mildly ashamed, to see that it was Niah. She'd been gone longer than she'd realized. And while Nancy didn't necessarily care what others thought of her, she cared what Niah thought of her. Blood pooled in her cheeks for a moment. She clenched her jaw. "I know. I was just leaving." She held out an arm for Joanie, finally putting her arrow in her quiver, and slinging her bow over her shoulder. As soon as her dragon was ready, she started to make her way out of the woods, assuming that Niah was following.

Guin Stark

Guin grimaced, quickly scanning the letter in the photograph. The handwriting was definitely Mary's - messy and difficult to parse, but hers. And she didn't need to be a telepath to know what Jean was hinting at, that she was afraid it was all going to happen again - that Dark Phoenix was going to happen. Honestly, the entire Phoenix Force seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. And Mary probably was the last person in the world who should have been given that. If anything, she needed stronger medication and a real therapist. If Guin could've gotten rid of the Phoenix, she would have. In a heartbeat.

"I mean, I love her but - she's actually insane. Maybe it's the Phoenix, but it could also be that she's actually batshit. Or maybe both," Guin shrugged. "But until we get the Phoenix out of her, we won't be able to help her. Do you think you could do that, Jean? You did use to host it." Annie had a good point too, that they could go to Edus to track Mary - Guin was also musing about hijacking a satellite or two and setting it to the task.

"Oh!" That made much more sense to Runa - she was familiar with the process, not so much in terms of beverages, but she had seen reactions of this form before on Asgard. Her brother, Forseti, had enjoyed tinkering with the things around them, often finding strange rocks and adding tinctures to them in order to cause them to fizz. It was a strange magic, but one that Runa enjoyed - one that felt different from her own magics, but no less real or important. The matter of tracking Mary seemed to be resolved quickly, with Edus giving a location. "Cousin, do you feel up for a teleportation spell? I imagine they wish to see their friend quickly. If not, I do still have this sling ring - and it is fun to try a more rugged Midgardian approach to magic every once in a while."

Avery smiled, relieved to hear that from Carolina - and then their eyes widened slightly as her words hit them, replaying once again in their mind. What she liked. They didn't know what to say, freezing for a moment, as if that would stop time. It had been a while since they'd dated anyone at all - yes, they'd had crushes, but nothing serious. They were passing things, moments that drifted in and out of focus. And even when they'd dated Sara, sometimes they'd felt an absence - like there was an emotional need that wasn't being met, like just one person, one love, wasn't right for them. It was something not uncommon in their family, at least their paternal family - their cousin was much the same, as was their aunties. Polyamorous through and through.

So did they like Carolina? Yes. But they liked more than just Carolina - they liked Perry too, for instance. And Max. Gods, did they like Max. But an old and powerful wizard like him would never have eyes for Avery, they knew that. They didn't know how Carolina would feel about that - if she'd be okay with dating someone who was poly - but maybe they were getting ahead of themself.

Maybe it was fine to just enjoy the moment.

"...Can I kiss you?" Avery murmured.

Leda chuckled slightly. "Careful there, my girl might get jealous," she said, wondering for a brief moment if Kiera was the jealous type. It sent a little thrill through her to contemplate. She found herself hoping she was. "But to answer your question, I s'pose so? As good as one can sleep in, well, hell." The demigod dreams were standard, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing to let her mind stress about too much. It wouldn't do her any good. Dreams had a way of only making sense after it was too late anyways.

Leda sat down next to Mads, grabbing one of the rabbits and tearing into it. It didn't taste amazing - they didn't have any seasonings down here, but food was food. It warmed her stomach as it went down, and gave her a little more energy - not that she was sure she even needed to eat anymore. Being a ghost was weird and confusing. She needed some sort of a handbook for the recently deceased. "Mmm... Well, assuming 'course that I somehow return to life, I'm going to snog the hell out of my girlfriend. And do some other stuff, too. I've already got the rabbit - just need the wand, if you catch my drift. And yourself?"

☀️ Nancy Parker ☀️

Nancy heard the twig snap and turned on her heel, bowstring drawn back, arrow knocked and ready. The woods had monsters kept within them for hunting - good practice for demigods, and part of the reason why Nancy ventured into them for her morning therapy. As much as her entire world had been turned upside down, Nancy wasn't intending on dying. She thought her father would keep his word - that her soul would be spared the damnation of the Underworld, the endless torture, both parties and punishments, and that she'd instead be turned into a tree. But a tree at Camp Half-blood was not what she had in mind.

It was a cyclops.

Just a cyclops.

He seemed friendly.

Slowly, Nancy eased her grip on the bowstring, lowering the bow down to her side. "...Hi," Nancy said, the numbness she felt slowly evolving into awkwardness and uncertainty. Was the cyclops part of the Camp? She couldn't remember. She'd been so focused on Rome and Mads, she hadn't really gone out of her way to meet more of the Greeks than necessary. Her gaze briefly darted through to where the trees thinned somewhat, letting her see some Greek campers enjoying the beach, the sound. Was this a trick? Did they stock cyclopses in the woods?

She plastered on a brave face, smiling as she tilted her head slightly. "I'm fantastic. What about yourself? You building a tiny house?" she asked, referring to the branches in his hands.

Guin Stark

Guin had to resist the urge to roll her eyes and explain to Jean how her own powers worked - that even if Mary wasn't letting her in, she could just skim through the surface thoughts of others present, looking for glimpses of Mary. Maybe Guin wasn't giving Jean enough credit, but she felt like crawling out of her skin, and interacting with Scott and Jean wasn't helping things at all. Especially because they were being vague as shit and overly dramatic about everything, like they were right ahout to walk onto the set of a soap opera.

"Can we just skip the drama and get to it?" Guin asked, crossing her arms. She didn't see why they needed to fuss over all of this, or why they were being so weird about whatever message this was. If they could just go ahead and explain what they knew, they'd be closer to get to the bottom of this situation anyways - and closer to the two former X-Men leaving the mansion.

Runa couldn't help but smile slightly at Lance's trick - he was a quiet soul, just like her. He didn't make grand sweeping gestures or displays of affection. He showed his care in little ways, tiny little things that were for Runa and Runa alone. She looked in his direction for a moment, hoping that he would see her thanks in the glance, before lifting the can to her lips and taking a sip - soda was strange, a symphony of syrups and bubbles, a sensation that wasn't quite like any other. She couldn't drink too much of it without feeling ill, but she did enjoy it.

"Oh, it will explode?" Runa tilted her head, confused. Nothing explosive had happened when Lance subtly cracked it open for her. "Is that normal for your drinks?"

The conversation then drifted to a member of the X-Men who hadn't been around for a few days, but Runa wasn't concerned. A few days was such a short period of time, she hardly noticed its passing.

Avery Spellman

Avery flushed pink at Carolina's question - it was one that most people in their life had been tiptoeing around, leaving them without any practice answering it. Truthfully, the experience of having a completely new body was odd... If anything, it made Avery feel less connected to their physical form, to their flesh. They felt these days more like a spirit inhabiting a puppet, a soul hidden behind skin and bone and hair and blood. There were moments where they wished that they didn't have a body at all, that they weren't burdened with one.

And of course, when they looked in the mirror, they startled sometimes, not used to the reflection looking back at them.

But the strange thing was, Avery didn't want to return to their old form. This was new and strange but at the same time, it felt right - more so than their flesh had felt before. It was a chance to really determine who they were, to start fresh, to discover who they wanted to be. They weren't the nervous boy from New York that they'd been. Not anymore.

"It's...weird," Avery admitted. "I don't always recognize myself. Sometimes when I see my reflection, I'm a stranger. But... I'm still me, on the inside - I'd be the same person no matter what my body was... Is it... is it weird for you?"

@BlueSky44@Kirah: Whether or not Usagi had been a robot the entire time, Andy wouldn't really know - and Zari, her brain a bit addled still, didn't seem to be processing the information well. Had she been able to focus, she might've told Andy that Usagi had been a robot the entire time she'd known her - and that the same was true for others at the academy.

Should they decide to leave the basement and go find their way back to the others, they'll notice an elevator to their left - maybe not an amazing idea with Arcade around - and a staircase to the right. No one is stopping them, no one else had come to fight them. But there could still be more threats lurking around the corner, so being cautious might be for the best.

@Patientbean@Trainerblue192@Natsu: Gideon wished that she could challenge the pixelated ghost to an arm wrestling match right now. It felt like no matter where she looked, nothing was happening. This is why she didn't play video games - they were boring! She groaned, half stomping from the kitchen to the dining room. "Still no one around? Yay. I love that for me," she muttered, missing the sound of footsteps coming from above. "Just kill me already, ghost - if you're real, do SOMETHING!"

Meanwhile in the twin bedroom, Dorian & co were investigating the music box. No one had played it yet, so they didn't have an idea as to the music it would play. But given Sabine's information that the box is cursed and connected to the haunting, perhaps leaving it alone would be the best move for survival. And while everyone could hear Gideon from across the house, Sabine and Mary Sue would both hear soft footsteps coming from upstairs.

Zelda knocked Dark Link back with her hammer, a skill and confidence that April had never seen before in her sister blossoming. She was squinting, barely able to comprehend what was happening, as Vicky stood in front of her... protecting her. It warmed her heart just as much as it burned her with shame - that she wasn't protecting herself, that someone else was risking their life for her. "Is he...?" April began to ask, before Dark Link sprang upwards, his sword propelling him forward like a chopper.

Right into Vicky.

April gasped, her heart freezing... time seemed to slow to a crawl, Vicky only had one life left, just one life between her and death...

... And somehow, Vicky timed it perfectly - her sword clashing against dark Link's in a grudge, the identical blades reverberating and shaking and cracking and disintegrating, just as dark Link fell apart before their eyes...

"...dead?" April squeaked out.

But before she could even properly look, reality shifted - the landscape of Legend of Zelda replaced with a cliff side, where strange ropes or cords or wires were facing them, alongside a giant, floating pair of scissors. At their feet was a circular platform, and April's stomach dropped. She knew this game.

"Oh my god we are so fucked!"

A 10 second timer appeared, floating in the air. And April, dressed once again as Princess Peach, found herself compelled to choose - to point to one of the cords. She shut her eyes, her heart pounding furiously - this was her last life, if she died, she died. If she died like this, then...

No.

She wasn't ready to admit that yet. Not even here, on death's doorstep.

She pointed to the sixth cord.

The scissors cut.

An eternity seemed to pass.

Nothing happened, and April felt her feet release, as she scurried off of the platform, her head pounding. She didn't even look to see if Zelda or Vicky were next - to see who was about to die.

Chi Mai took a deep breath, staring at Leah for a second as she was finally freed from the pod - only to be told to stay there, being accused of being some sort of trick by Ed, whoever the fuck that was. She glanced around the room quickly, seeing the walls made of organs, the blood covering her friends and some randos, and something snapped in her. "cái quái gì đang thực sự xảy ra vậy!!!!"

She didn't listen to Leah's warning, scrambling out of the pod. And while Chi Mai wasn't aware, she didn't look exactly like herself - her ears were elven and pointy, and she had on some tattered, princess like robes. Her skin was a deep blue, and in her hands was a strange object, a dodecahedron of sorts with strange, sharp edges.

"i fucking hate this shit!!"

Mads missed her eldritch blast, her aim poor. Diana, however, was much more lucky - she managed to loose three or so arrows into her cultist, killing her opponent. And as for the final cultist, they met a fiery end by Danni's hands [see Achro's next post!].

Percy, meanwhile, was panting heavily, incredibly winded - his lungs felt like they were burning, as he made his way on over to Leah, staring at the newcomer with confusion. Was she an NPC programmed into the game by Arcade? Leah seemed to know her - and he had caught her screaming a few moments ago, asking what was going on. By instinct, he slipped into the language she used - Vietnamese.

"chúng tôi đang chiến đấu với những kẻ sùng bái bên trong một cơ quan khổng lồ. tất nhiên, nếu bạn chỉ đơn giản là một chương trình thì bạn đã biết điều đó rồi."

"một... chương trình???"

Chi Mai looked around her, trying to see if anyone would help her. "Listen, if someone doesn't start making sense, then I'm going to make heads start popping."

Percy frowned, glancing at Diana for a brief second - was this part of the game? - before doing the sensible thing.

He punched Chi Mai in the face.

And somehow, this was enough to knock her out cold.

Tartarus was strange.

The strangest thing about it was how normal it was. She was on the run from monsters, fighting for her life (afterlife?) with a fellow demigod at her side. She didn't necessarily know where she would sleep next or where they'd get the supplies they needed, but that was always true of quests. And the dreams, the dreams were all the same - the dreams she'd been having her entire life, ominous whispers of the future, fragments of conversations that Leda couldn't begin to understand. If she hadn't known she was dead, it would have been all too easy to think of this as just another quest - that she was still a living, breathing demigod, and not a shade.

She smelled the crackling flames, slowly rousing her from her sleep. It might have been night - or maybe it was day. It was hard to tell here - the sky was always the same, an inky blackness. And it seemed like they were no closer to finding the Doors of Death than they had been at the start. "Please tell me it's not bugs for food again," Leda grumbled, opening her eyes.

Time had moved both quickly and not at all, the days melting and blurring together into an indistinct soup of dread and unease. The minutes stretched into hours and morphed into weeks and seconds, a nauseating internal whiplash that left Nancy spiraling, scrambling for any sense of security, of certainty. She threw herself into her duties as the sole praetor of the Legion when she could, but even when her mind was focused her body remembered - invisible tremors shook her, a howling pit demanding attention, a thousand gentle pricks of a blade lacerating her flesh, leaving her marked. If Niah and Mads were a part of her soul, then a void had been left behind in Mads' absence, a black hole that threatened to pull and pull and pull.

Sleep was the worst of it. When Nancy was not actively working towards the betterment of New Rome or Mads' rescue - when there was nothing to be done, she would stare off into space. She would study the wall of one of the Camp buildings, imagining Mads' face in the grain, twisted and trapped.

But sometimes Nancy would see herself instead - would see herself under the spell of the Casino, would see the men from that night, would see the blood that had stained her fingers.

So on the day of Leandra's trial, with Mads' rescue looming nearer and nearer, Nancy had woken up before the sun. She took the bow that her aunt had gifted her and quietly walked to the woods. It had become part of her routine, to loose arrows here while the sky was still painted soft reds and pinks. It was quiet and still, far away from the archery range, away from the rest of Camp - where Nancy could breathe a little easier, and the pain in her chest lessened just a bit.

She had been at it for hours when she finally put down the bow, and she stared at nothing in particular, her eyes unfocused, letting her see blurs of green and brown from the swaying trees. There were tears in her eyes, but she felt nothing at all. Just numb.

Her body grieved when she could not.

Guin Stark

Guin wasn't exactly surprised to see Scott and Jean at the front steps of the mansion - they weren't around as often as they used to be, but members of the previous team line-up still dropped in from time to time. Once an X-Man, always an X-Man (although, other superhero groups tended to have this problem as well - such as the Avengers).

She wouldn't describe herself as being thrilled to see them either - she wasn't particularly close with either Scott or Jean, and she tended to find them somewhat patronizing at best. They reminded her of people who had peaked in high school, unable to move on, perpetually reliving the glory days. And they were good people too - so good that it made her roll her eyes. It'd be easier if they messed up more often, if Jean went Dark Phoenix more than just one time, but for the most part, they were Xavier's golden children.

Needless to say, Guin was neutral at best when it came to running into Scott and Jean. Pietro had dragged her along, and she hadn't fought it - in her weird funky headspace, she knew deep down it was probably for the best. She gave a half wave, half salute to Scott and Jean. "Don't you already know she's not here?" Guin pointed out bluntly, her gaze directed at Jean.
Runa was lost deep in thought, staring at the small can that Bethany had handed to her. It was a strange thing, a cylinder of sorts - when she shook it, she could hear the liquid sloshing around inside. There was no discernable way to open it - it was completely sealed on either side, without a cap to unscrew like a flask, no stopper to remove either. Just smooth, cheap metal. Discretely, Runa glanced around to see how others approached the problem, but then realized all those who had opened them had already done so. She'd been so focused on this challenge that she had missed her cousin enter the room, too, alongside Edus. "Are you enjoying yourself, cousin?" Runa asked, before quietly banging the can against the edge of the counter - perhaps that would create an opening?

Avery Spellman

"He probably looks the same," Avery reasoned with a slight laugh - babies were bald, too, after all. And their heads were somewhat mishapened and wrinkled, and their mobility was similarly limited. The main difference, they supposed, would be in attire - although it would not surprise them if they were to learn that even as a baby, Professor X wore a suit and tie.

They headed up to the attic with Carolina though, being careful not to breathe in too deeply - they figured it was probably incredibly dusty, and they didn't need to have a coughing fit. Their lungs were relatively new, but given how their deafness had transferred over to this body, Avery figured any pre-existing lung damage was there as well. They didn't need to add onto it.
