‘Mmmmm, nah,’ Brendon sounded. ‘Fossils are actually sorta common here, and we’re talking the rare stones here. I’d have agreed if it was just a Fire or Leaf Stone, but this is the Dusk and Shiny Stones here. So one fossil for one stone. Deal?’
Back to present.
‘Darn straight!’ the scientist agreed with Skylar’s words that he was not going to act like it was a burden, his smile back, as he went off to do other things.
Dunstan did not stop Skylar on the way out, Dunstan wasn’t aware that Skylar was even here, as such couldn’t do something like that. Moving on!
Skylar had a meal, and then went back to the mines. Business was slowing down, and he was warned that at a certain time the guests would be recommended to leave and the lights would be turned off, but he could do things until then.
Focused on training the lower-leveled Pokémon in the mines. The others got some experience, but this’ll about do.
Seabreeze grew to level 17! Jonathan grew to level 16! Jeebs grew to level 13! Royal grew to level 14! Royal learned Spark!
…
What?
A swirl of light passed over Jeebs. His fuzzy body that he obtained not long ago broke open, revealing long, beautiful wings, two antennas arose from the top of his head, and in general he looked much more complete.
Congratulations! Jeebs evolved into Vivillon!
Pokédex Entry #666 – Vivillon, the Scale Pokémon. Known to appear all over the world, the pattern on the wings differ depending on the climate of their habitat. They’re extremely skilled at finding water, so if you release one in a desolate environment it can be followed to find your way to a spring. In the deserts of Isson, they’re the primary means of finding the Mythic Oasis.
New Pokémon evolved! Skylar earned 2000 P!
Jeebs learned Struggle Bug!
Aside from that. Skylar dug some more, and while his time didn’t yield as many findings as last time, he still found something. Another rock, and some sort of claw that must have loosened from an ancient Pokémon, perhaps?
Skylar obtained Hard Stone! Skylar obtained Razor Claw!
There. What will Skylar do now?
Desert Mines
The Desert Mines is what the town of Raremine was created for. Outside the entrance exists a small gathering of tents and buildings to supply the people passing through, where different people gather to potentially purchase the findings of the mines. There are different mines for the various metals that are used throughout Isson for construction, but the place people think of when heading to the Desert Mines is the one specific where trainers are allowed to pick up their own pickaxes and head down to dig! The miners tend to use their Pokémon to help with the digging, and a lot of the Pokémon they use are native to the cave itself, so for some help just catch one and go at it!
There are maps showing where you’re more likely to find different things, be they stones, fossils or remnants of ancient civilizations. The mines themselves are well-lit, with lamps in the ceiling letting people wander free. The Pokémon here are very used to humans walking about and are constantly maintaining the structural integrity of the tunnels, making it a very safe working environment, despite being a mine. But, deep in the mines is a place where people stop going, lamps no longer light the place up, a place where Pokémon are allowed to live free. What sort of secrets might await in the deepest depths of the Desert Mines? Are you here to find out?
1. Find Pokémon. Can be specified what kind of Pokémon is being searched for, and how you search. 2. Train Pokémon. With this command, we can jump ahead in time and skip posting about grinding. 3. Seek trainers. The miners around here commonly have Pokémon and could totally take you. 4. Talk. There’s plenty of miners and some researchers one could talk to. 5. Mine. Grab a tool, and get to chopping! The miners always appreciate the extra help! Your chances may increase with a Pokémon helping! 6. Brave the Cave. Seek deeper into the cave, see what form of secrets the depth of the mine might hold. 7. Mine Sellers. People on the outside of the mine willing to buy scraps you may have found! 8. Specify. If you specify what you want to do, the GM will take it into account and tell the result. 9. Trigger random event. Force the GM to use his imagination to make a scenario for you.
Basil sketched out the mirror and its surroundings.
Basil obtained Mirror Sketch!
After nothing of note happened, Basil then advanced into the shrine, discovered the secret exit out the back, he inspected the mirror. Poking it revealed it to be a physical object, and picking it up revealed it to not be trapped. Having come this far, Basil decided to take the mirror with him out the back, exiting towards Northern Silent Forest…
‘Hold it,’ called a voice from above and behind him.
A small blue frog dropped down in front of him, looking all stylish and threatening(?) as it landed. On his left, a mostly yellow/redish humanoid-beast-like Pokémon landed with a martial-arts stance, and on his right a big-headed blue/grey also humanoid little thing drifted down more slowly than the others with no visible means of flight, its limbs in a resting pose.
Behind him, now, dropped an actual human, who quickly dropped down into a martial-art stance of some sort. She had red hair and an exotic outfit with reddish pants, a dark shirt with her elbows revealed, and a long blue scarf that was currently lifted to cover her mouth, unlike in the following image of her.
Pokédex Entry #656 – Froakie, the Bubble Frog Pokémon. It secretes flexible and delicate bubbles from its chest and back which absorb damage that would otherwise damage it. While it is known for a happy-go-lucky attitude, it has astute awareness of its surroundings.
Pokédex Entry #307 – Meditite, the Meditate Pokémon. It is found deep in mountains, meditating for hours on end and surviving on a berry a day. It trains its spirit, and by heightening its inner strength it somehow achieved levitation. It also enjoys daily yoga workouts.
Pokédex Entry #619 – Mienfoo, the Martial Arts Pokémon. While not very strong, it’s very fast and has mastered the art of elegant combos using claws to increase damage. As it concentrates, it grows in speed and efficiency. They have a tendency to start acting like their trainer’s personal body-guards.
‘What’s your business with the mirror?’ she asked, all her Pokémon looking ready for battle… and so did she, for whatever reason.
So the battle commenced. In the midst of which, Justine seemed to be attempting to convince Lily that Mariette had destroyed Penrose. She didn't have anything particularly reasonable argument for the case, yet Lily seemed to be seriously considering it.
‘If you have reasonable accusations to levy against me, I will hear them out. The partial destruction of Penrose was caused by monsters abusing the fact the majority of Penrose's Magical Girls, me included, was trapped inside a Lesser Force's beach dimension,’ Mariette told, clearly irritated. ‘Lily. I trust you,’ she then followed, because reasoning with Justine was too much to ask.
Then Void World happened. Because of course it did. Mariette had been updated that some upstart created a portal unlike her own to make them escape the ambush, which was annoying. The portal girl made a mental note that if that girl showed up again she'd be the first one to be taught a lesson. The wave passed Mariette, and...
It was very strange. Despite not relying on magic at all when it came to standing up, she still felt weak and about to fall over. It was possible Eli was the one who caught her, if it wasn't Hilaria, Eli looking on with worried eyes. Yet, that was not important next to the following event. The world itself. It was... Needed to address Alexander's question.
‘... There's no non-magical exit,’ she answered him, and then brought her communicator to her lips. ‘Everyone. Leena's Void World is causing the whole dimension to collapse. Neutralize her or everyone here will be dead in five minutes. I repeat. Neutralize Leena is a new primary and urgent objective.’
... And seeing how Mariette is now utterly powerless, that's all she could do.
A lot of things happened as the wave of anti-magic went by, but perhaps one of the most pronounced was...
One second, Mikayla was floating there, with her army of spirits, in-battle and powerful, her Powerful Aura echoing over the scenery...
Then Void World wave passed.
... And there was no sign of her. It was like Mikayla had never even been there. She was gone.
In a different dimension entirely, Mikayla woke up. She stared a bit absently at the ceiling.
Turns out astral projecting is a little difficult in a world where magic is cut. Not only was the magic in her projection cut, the portal through which Mariette was allowing her to project through was also cut. Seems Mikayla's part in this battle was over.
It did not take long to reach what he'd seen earlier.
If he went there…
Abandoned Shrine
So. There’s a shrine, standing on the edge between the abandoned buildings in the southern area of Route 11 and the Silent Forest further south. It’s positively tiny, and despite the markings all over around it. A few Chinglings jumped about, just looking happy and not minding anything at all, making their little ringing sound as they did.
Pokédex Entry #433 – Chingling, the Bell Pokémon. An orb in the back of its throat chimes each time it jumps, making a ringing sound. When endangered it defends itself by emitting deafening high-frequency cries. When it starts crying, it’s hard to make it stop.
Inside the tiny shrine was a podium. On top of the podium stood a strange mirror. It was adorned with an odd frame that had varying colors adorning it. As for what it was or what it was doing here, there were no particular answers for.
So, that’s what was here, as far as Basil could tell. What would he do, here?
Route 11
Those heading to Route 11 by any other route than from Rainrock may receive a warning of the weather conditions by the clouds gathering overhead to release before climbing over Mt. Strength. Route 11 consists mainly of one big road leading in-between Rainrock City and Redcoast City, two cities with very close ties and bonds due to many reasons. Aside from the main road there are farmlands below as well as plenty of small patches of forests and plains around, all under the spotty clouds that sometimes shower the area in a blanket of light rain, sometimes shine down with a hopeful sun through the cracks in the sky but mostly both at the same time.
Route 11 is somewhat of a crossroad. To the east lies Rainrock City, and the path there leads on an incline to the high altitude of the mountain-laid city from the coastal Redcoast City in the west. Should one decide that one does not wish to head in either direction, the path north to Route 12 exists and is considered the main road to bigger places like Bigfjord or Worldedge City or perhaps out over the seas of Route 27. Route 11 is also fairly known for a high amount of abandoned buildings, as those who lived in them moved to neighboring cities in recent times. They stand, looming, free to explore for those who rejoices in emptiness. But, one famous building that perhaps isn’t as abandoned is the Pokéball Factory in the north-east, just off-road in the direction of Route 12.
The route is decently well-trafficked, with trainers and others coming down from Route 12 to Rainrock or Redcoast or onwards, and as such trainers might want to stay off the main road. Plenty of side-roads, though. Due to the rains many hurry past these terrains… but perhaps they’re missing out on a few rare Pokémon in the process?
1. Find Pokémon. Can be specified what kind of Pokémon is being searched for, and how you search. 2. Train Pokémon. With this command, we can jump ahead in time and skip posting about grinding. 3. Seek trainers. There should be some trainers among those walking back and forth in the area. 4. Talk. There’s plenty of travellers around. Maybe seek answers to any burning questions you have. 5. Move along. Move along normally, letting any events that may come happen naturally. 6. Hurry along. Intentionally avoid confrontations and try to get safely to the next destination. 7. Specify. If you specify what you want to do, the GM will take it into account and tell the result. 8. Trigger random event. Force the GM to use his imagination to make a scenario for you. 9. Area Specific: Explore Buildings. There’s abandoned buildings. Why not have a look? 10. Shrine. Basil saw one over that direction before. 11. Basil Specific: Pokémon Fight Club. So, does one talk about what one found in that building?
Connected areas: Redcoast City. To the west. A pretty straight road. Rainrock City. To the east. Requires a bit of a climbing road. Route 12. Requires crossing Route 11 on the way north, also pretty well-traveled. Pokéball Factory. A turn east on the path north should bring you there. Northern Silent Forest. Going south, one can breach into the rainy forest.
‘Eeeh, Fire Stones aren’t worth as much as Dusk Stones. Rarer,’ Brendon said, looking a bit sceptical. ‘Still, I don’t really have much use of a Dusk Stone, myself. So, if you’d like to give me any of those OTHER fossils you got, then I’m up for a trade!’ Brendon negotiated with a wide smile.
Skylar then hurried back to Raremine Town, and went first to the Pokémon Center, and then to the research lab. A building with white walls contrasting the usual yellow, brown or beige buildings of Raremine town, a sterile looking building that was the research center for examining the products find in the desert and the desert mines. Going inside there were signs pointing rather handedly towards the “Fossil Resurrection” area… assuming one can see, anyway. But assuming Skylar could find his way…
‘WELCOME! … To the HALL OF RESURRECTION!’
Skylar found himself in a lab-like room, blue walls, covered with tubes and cables and liquids pumping around and the room otherwise dominated by a giant, square machine in the middle of the room, with a bunch of glowy yellow lines around it that seemed more to make it look cool than actually be practical. Then there was the excited-looking scientist standing with arms spread demonstrating the machine.
‘In this machine, the souls of old are reunited with their bodies and are brought forth to walk this earth once more! One would have thought this would be the realm of the occult, but no! This is science! SCIENCE! Oooh, most based and excellent science! With it, the dead walk once more! Hahahahaha!’
The eccentric scientist held his arms forth to Skylar.
‘You have a fossil you would like to resurrect, do you not? Give it here! Give me, and I will bring it back to life for you, free of charge!’
Weirdness about free resurrection services aside, assuming he was given the fossil he pressed a button on the machine and the top of it opened like a giant maw or a treasure chest. The man placed the fossil in the middle of it, clicked the same button again, and it shut tight.
‘Then, let the resurrection process COMMENCE!’
So he called, and slammed his fist into a far too big to be practical button on his display, and the machine gave an unsettlingly loud churn and started vibrating, the yellow lines on it starting to glow brighter in the bottom and going upwards, as if it was filling up with energy, and then it reached full, aaaaaaaaaaand…!
…
It fizzled out and the machine’s shaking slowed down until it stopped.
…
But the machine didn’t seem to be turned off?
…
…
…
‘What, did you think it would be done instantly?’ The scientist crossed his arms, shaking his head. ‘This is going to take numerous hours, straight into the night at this rate. Come back tomorrow. Hah, instantly. Do I look like some kind of miracle worker? Kids these days are always so impatient…’
So, it turns out Skylar would have to wait until tomorrow to get his Pokémon. Eventually he’d find himself outside the lab again, unless he had additional questions or so. He might notice a sign that pointed to Professor Dunstan’s office, a famous researcher of legendary Pokémon, if that was of interest. Otherwise, it was back out on the streets of Raremine Town.
What would he do here?
Raremine Town
no cat-eared girls here, sorry
Raremine Town is a moderately large, bright town on the edge of the only desert in Isson. By some twist, the largest mineral deposits in the land is located right under the desert, making it an attractive place to build mines. From that, Raremine Town naturally sprung into being as a merchant town on the edge of habitability from where the mineral could then be delivered to the rest of Isson. The temperature is hot, sun blazing down on this land where plains slowly become desert, the atmosphere dry and unfriendly… yet, life and trees blossoms among the buildings of Raremine Town.
The ground is still the grass from the Vast Plains, with buildings on top of them. The modern houses stand tall with plenty of architectural skill put into them, tools for building and living sold inside the houses. Everywhere, one can see workers walking about, but they’re happy workers, with their families living close at hand in the town and with the finest equipment available. Oh, and of course, plenty of Pokémon that assist with the finding of ores and such! The trees, which appear to have been planted and grown all over town by the residents themselves, gives plenty of homes for local Pokémon to live.
Overall, it’s busy, with people walking and talking all over, an active town indeed.
1. Find Pokémon. Can still search for Pokémon in cities~ 2. Talk. In cities, there are considerably more people one can talk to. Talking can give you info on local rumors and such. 3. Exit. Exit the town to any of the connected areas. 4. Specify. If you specify what you want to do, the GM will take it into account and tell the result. 5. Trigger random event. Force the GM to use his imagination to make a scenario for you. 6. Notable Places. Visit any of the places in the city! 6.1. Pokémon Center. Heal all your Pokémon. 6.2. PokéMart. Go to a store and buy things. 6.3. Pokémon Gym. ??? 6.4. Desert Miner’s Hangout. The workers of the Desert Mine live around here. They can give tips about the desert! 6.5. Research Lab. For archaeologists, those who want to talk to Dunstan and those who want to resurrect fossils. 6.6. Stone Store. Where all the stones of the Desert Mines or Frozen Cave eventually end up! Lots of evolutionary and other kinds of stones! 6.7. Bug Garden. A garden within which bugs thrive. Vivillons can be hired here for tracking down the Mythic Oasis! 6.8. Warehouses. Because the things they mine here needs somewhere to be stored. This includes Ancient Pokémon, apparently, as some of the warehouses are pens. 6.9. Familiar Faces: Dawkin. Currently visiting the lab.
Connected areas: Route 6. The Vast Plains open up to the north of Raremine. The shorter paths lead to Route 8 and 16, while west far enough leads to Lakewatch Town. Route 7. The single rocky desert of Isson, it connects to the Desert Mines, the Old Tombs and to the Mythic Oasis.
So, funny thing about Jigglypuffs and deflating. While they CAN deflate, it’s not something they’re naturally taught to control.
Upon being commanded to deflate, Aria did indeed open the metaphorical valve to let out air… and promptly started blasting around the room like a balloon with a leak and no control whatsoever where she was going. Pidove had to dodge to the floor to avoid a particular arc, the Dedennes had to scatter as she bounced around the audience, Hawlucha had to come to a complete stop to try to track where she was going and probably heading, and at one point Basil probably had to dodge her because she took a wrong turn towards him (or maybe she hit him, who knows).
As soon as she came to a stop in the corner of the room, Hawlucha jumped towards her. This was when Aria was supposed to use Disarming Voice. But, funny thing #2 about Jigglypuffs, she needs to have her disproportionately large lungs filled to use her voice, and as such, she cannot use that move in a deflated state. She opened her mouth to refill herself with air, but the amount of time that took was enough for Hawlucha to reach her and deliver a FLYING TACKLE (qualifies as Struggle, but Hawlucha isn’t picky atm) straight into her corner, resulting in a slam and a crack in the wall.
It was silent for a couple of seconds, Hawlucha having seemingly crushed Aria against the wall…
When he was suddenly blasted off and the “charming cry” of Disarming Voice sounded out, a damaged but not out Aria filled with just enough air lying about under. Critical Hit! Hawlucha fainted!
Aria grew to level 14!
‘PiDOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!’ Pidove gave a cry that needed no translation, and the crowd of Dedennes gave a cheer for their crowned victor, the almost-fainted Aria. A couple Dedennes ran down and presented her with a black piece of garment for her victory…
Aria obtained Black Belt!
A couple Dedennes brought a bucket of water and poured it down on Hawlucha’s head, somehow making the Fighting/Flying-type flinch and restoring him to 1 health. The wrestling Pokémon flew up on his feet, stumbled a bit, and then crossed his arm-wings as he nodded respectfully to Aria.
‘Haw. Hawlucha!’ he congratulated her on her victory. Then, he turned to Basil, looking mighty pleased with himself.
‘Hawlucha!’
Weather he actually got that across with his announcement or not, basically he’s offering to join Basil on his journey!
Gender: ♂ Type: Fighting/Flying Personality: (Up to player.) Quirks/Talents/Aspirations/Other: (Up to player.) Level: 14 Moves: Detect, Tackle, Hone Claws, Karate Chop, Wing Attack, Roost Ability: Limber. Cannot be paralyzed. Held Item: None.
New Pokémon caught! Basil earned 2500 P!
Would you like to give a nickname to Hawlucha?
‘Haw!’ Hawlucha seemed entirely alright with this. Instead, he turned to Aria…
‘Hawlucha! Haw-haw-haw…!’ he said, walking over to grab her tiny arm and then bring her along to behind the ring…
She was suddenly subjected to a very quick, very intense training work-out, whether she wanted it or not. If she needed it, there was a couple dozen Dedennes cheering for her. Regardless of the impossibility of it, Hawlucha had her exercise her tiny hands, going from snapping pieces of straw, to wooden planks and then suddenly there were bricks that for some reason were no match for her tiny hands…!?
Aria learned Karate Chop!
Unless she, like, completely refused to cooperate with the past paragraph, of course.
With that, the residents of the little room were satisfied and ready to wave Basil farewell, unless he has more business here.

Common: #263 Zigzagoon #406 Budew #519 Pidove
Uncommon: #522 Blitzle #702 Dedenne
Rare: #433 Chingling #701 Hawlucha
On a final note. While a Jigglypuff straight from the wild will not be able to effectively use her balloon-features well in a fight, Basil perhaps saw the glimmer of a hope that she could be trained to do so?
Fortunately for Skylar, didn’t seem like Jase realized his Drilbur’s steel claws would be ineffective against Mac, because the Drilbur and Mac charged one another, one with Metal Claw and the other with Double Kick. They trades slices and kicks, and it became pretty immediately obvious who had the upper hand as Mac successfully kicked down the Drilbur. Not so baby bird now, huh.
Mac definitely outsped Golett and immediately shover a handful of sand into the ghost automaton’s eyes, staggering it. How much the Golett is actually using its eyes when it curls up into a ball and rolls at its enemy is probably kind of debatable. Still, despite the reduced accuracy the first roll successfully impacted Mac, despite his attempt to dodge and the sand lowering accuracy. They then exchanged an Ember and a Rollout, as Golett hit again. However, the turn after that the loss of accuracy finally showed itself and Rollout missed!
After that Mac was hit with one more lowest-power Rollout, but managed to dodge the next accuracy-deprived roll, hitting two more Embers in the process, and then with a final fourth Ember Golett fainted. Mac was kind of beat-up after taking slices and three Rollouts, though. That new Fighting-type was serving him well.
Then, he kept Mac out against Roggenrola! … which may have been a mistake, because Roggenrola precisely managed to survive the two kicks of Double Kick, and then proceeded to Rock Blast him thrice, the second time which became a Critical Hit! Mac fainted. Not without getting some juicy exp, though.
Mac grew to level 17!
Seabreeze then promptly showed up and Water Pulsed for an instant victory.
Skylar was victorious! Skylar got 1008P for winning!
‘DEFINITELY got your battling down! What would you say to becoming a miner? It’s tons of fun, and you’ll be in good company!’ Jase says, before taking his leave.
Then, against Brendon.
Kabuto doesn’t know any Rock-type moves, yet. Best he got is Scratch and Mud-Shot. Royal flies. Royal has Thundershock that is Super Effective. In a thorough display of unmistakable type-advantage, Royal wins a basically flawless victory!
Royal grew to level 11!
Paradise VS Cranidos is a bit rougher, simply because of the Pokémon’s massive attack. It survived the first Magical Leaf and delivered a painful Headbutt that did a decent amount of damage, and then turned out to be faster and headbutted her AGAIN, before going down to the next Magical Leaf.
Then the next Drilbur wasn’t able to do enough damage to her with just Fury Swipes and went down quick to more Magical Leaf.
Paradise grew to level 17!
Skylar was victorious! Skylar got 775P for winning!
‘Hahaha! Figures my newly resurrected untrained Pokémon would lose a real fight!’ Brendon laughed at his little incident, then inspected Skylar about to go mine some more. ‘Hey, say, I happened to see you bag an Armor Fossil, didn’t I? I’ve been looking for one of those. Could I perhaps ask if you would like to trade? Lesse, I got a Dusk Stone, a Shiny Stone, a Helix Fossil, a Plume Fossil, and a Sail Fossil…’ Brendon said, going over his findings…
If Skylar continues to mine or train, do write in a bit more detail what he’s focusing on then.
What will Skylar do now?

For dealing with the ambush, I recommend more agile people spread out, so it isn't as much of a focus-fire on one unit. Respective ranged fighters except for Lea will likely aim for those heading closest towards them. I will wait with Ronin's actions until I know the reactions of the others, because she doesn't want to solo any of these, hah.
Perhaps we can discuss who distracts/deals with what?
Or, you know. Leena can void room and render the whole ambush moot. That works too.
Their magma trap… had been transformed into a 3 year old girl’s stereotypical dreamland. How did that even happen…?
‘The pink hyper one in the infiltration team just turned our lava-trap into candy. Some form of reality bender. Be careful of her,’ she told the team. Yikes, let’s hope that’s not as bad as it looked…
Later, when the Dina scene was over and they were coming up the stairs…
Funny thing. The information girl was eavesdropping on every word said by the infiltration team. So.
“Connie, there’s a room beneath those stairs. It might be nothing but Ronin did say to look for ‘small, secluded places’. Could you use the fear trick you used on that patrol on anyone inside of that room?”
The girl quickly pressed a button to her left, and a small hatch opened soundlessly beneath her, allowing her to drop down into the corridor right under her, the hatch closing above with utmost efficiency. Fortunately for her, the entire infiltration team was going up the stairs to the second floor, so the first floor corridor was safe. Hurray for never splitting the party.
From there, she walked into the wall, Esther deforming the wood of the mansion to allow her escape. On the way she picked up her mobile phone to display her view of the infiltration team and she put headphones from the phone to her ears. Her ability to supervise would be greatly diminished when not inside her base, albeit not crippled, she was capable of doing everything from her phone wirelessly.
If she could avoid the fear attack it was possible she could just return to her base afterwards, no harm done. She cycled to the foyer trap and prepared.
2nd Floor - Back Corridor
Everyone was eventually returned to the back corridor, and then it was time to plan their attack. Except, Dina said she was going to try to avoid this. ‘Wait, that’s-’ Mariette was a little late in the objection. But, but, her time-sensitive plan…!
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, though, as Su’s words gave Mariette something to consider. She was right. The real enemy wasn’t Beacon, it was Justine. While her current plan was the best for destroying the attacking enemy force, it’d leave Justine free to retreat. Mariette gave an exasperated sigh at the mention of being supposedly behind the destruction in Penrose. ‘I was in a beach dimension…’
That aside, she considered it, and then looked to Su. ‘You have a point. Do you have an idea of how to corner someone who can teleport at will?’
“Sonia's primary objective is to protect Justine and kill you. If we give them a shot at you, or attack Justine from multiple angles, we can be ready and counter Sonia when she tries something. All we need to do is predict her actions and we can land a counter attack,” Su replied.
”She's saying to portal spam, Mariette, and dump a metric ton of us onto her!” Trixy added on. Thank you @BrokenPromise for the input
Not exactly the most fool-proof of plans, but alright.
‘Very well,’ Mariette said, and then turned to her forces anew. With Dina talking on the other side, it gave Mariette time to hold a speech.
‘Listen, everyone. Su made a good point. My true enemy is Justine and Sonia. If we go through with my plan, even if we win, she'd simply retreat and return with another army thirsting for revenge. To prevent that, we attack her now. We divide into two groups. One group attacks Justine. This will be me, Bunny, Eli, Su, Helga, Trixy, Silhouette, Eliza, Lily, Alexander, Hilaria and Dina. You're here because our enemy is Justine, the one who terrorised Penrose. Let’s finish her together.
The other group will hamper Alicia and prevent her from reinforcing the outside. This will be Lea, Freya, Mayra, Suzette, Ronja, Josefin, Taihei, Tullia and Victoria, supported by Esther and our informer. You know this mansion, and won't mind fighting other residents of Penrose.
Justine group. I'll get onto the roof, you assist me. Justine will not be able to resist aiming for me. We will be assisted by Mikayla out there, a really powerful spirit-girl. Any comments on strategy? Otherwise I'll just send us to the roof.
Home team. Your primary goals are to prevent Alicia reinforcing Justine, and to survive. Avoid killing our enemies, we don't need more grudges against us. It's time to unleash our minions.
Any questions or suggestions?’
Through a PM, it has been confirmed there’ll be no such that would fundamentally change the contents of this post and could be said in the beginning of their own posts. The only one that potentially needs addressing is Lily possibly wanting to talk to Justine, the response to which would be ‘Then talk as we fight.’ Mariette has had enough delays.
This was when Mariette opened portals to allow the home team, the champions of Asengav, to surround the enemy infiltration team, and as such Dina was warned by her fox that the foyer was being surrounded. She sent each common Magical Girl away, they weren’t powerful enough to handle what they were going up against and Mariette wasn’t willing to further risk their lives, though had Josefin drain a bit of their magic to deposit in Mariette first.
While they were arranging things, their information girl kept them updated on what was being said in the foyer by communicators. Summarization, of course, but ultimately that the negotiation was a bust and Dina said she was willing to fight Asengav to save Mariette. Lea in particular looked like she wanted Dina’s head for this. Then Dina apparently buffed the whole enemy team. Ronja was like ‘Oh, I should be able to do that, too,’ and through Mariette’s portals she buffed the rest of the home team.
When Dina eventually returned, she found only the Justine team standing by, and Mariette turning towards her.
‘We’re going after Justine and Sonia while my forces hold back Alicia. If we take down Sonia, there will be no further risk to my life. Let’s go,’ she said, and then she opened the portal…

In the corridor, Taihei appeared from a portal after having fallen back herself. Some of the other girls looked a bit hesitant about her, on account of her famous bad luck, but Taihei didn't even notice them right now. She was far too shaken.
Josefin noticed her, and instinctively started bouncing over, but stopped mid-way, her expression faltering. Last time they talked, Taihei had mentioned that she, in her existence, was another thing contributing to Taihei's terrible life by being another life ruined by her luck. However...
‘Josefin,’ Taihei said, calling her attention. ‘Wh-what?’ Josefin asked, flinching on the spot at being spoken to. ‘I... wanted to say I am sorry. For last time. Turns out that... I don't want to die, after all,’ Taihei said, recalling what had just happened.
Josefin blinked in surprise at Taihei's words, then smiled so widely and bounced forward to hug around her monster aquatic friend. Taihei, with her immense endurance, didn't even budge under the force of the glomp, giving the slightest sad smile as she did.
‘I'm happy,’ Josefin said. ‘Let's make your life a life worth living, alright?’
‘I'll... do my best,’ Taihei responded. ‘Thank you, Josefin. I'm lucky to have you.’
‘Tihi,’ Josefin giggled a little.
Then they were sent to do their ambush.
Void Room - Infiltration Team
Ronin was momentarily worried by Connie’s little panic attack, but if she said she was alright, then alright. That aside, then MDP asked about a particular painting. That one. Uh. Ronin looked at Mayra’s painting for a bit. She’d never actually worked with Mayra, just kinda sorta knew she existed, but…
‘I’m pretty sure that one’s exactly what she looks like! A fire-darkness dragon monster-girl that’s really tough in a close-to-mid range fight,’ Ronin said, intentionally withholding her name, knowing information girl was likely listening. ‘Have you seen her before?’ Ronin followed that up with.

And if she had not, she didn’t need to wait much longer.
As “Eli ” charged into the library, the door swinging up for her…
Firstly, Delta’s spell went off and the floor was turned into mirrors. The mirrors below “Eli” revealed a lightning-quick shadow that had been hiding in the ceiling above the door, who-
Claws and a tail struck at her with the power and speed granted by Str 22 and Agi 21, a combo to disrupt her defenses and then send her flying, as Freya had been waiting for her to make her entrance.
Meanwhile, the foyer trap went off. In the middle of the room a small item launched into the air, and went off. A giant shock-wave of Sound-specialization cracked across the foyer, sure to rattle anyone unprepared for it, Freya jumping inside the library and bracing her ears as to take minimal damage herself. A loud CRACK echoed through the whole mansion, but here in the foyer the sound was deafening, would bypass physical shields, and doubled as the signal to start the ambush.
From the lower floor, east side, the door slammed open and Tullia pointed her Bifrost Staff at the intruders. A sudden, chilling beam of Mag 16 ice blasted in, intent to freeze them solid and end this encounter early. As she did that, Victoria (real one) entered from the north-north-east door to the foyer on the first floor, and skipped to plant her hands onto the side of the stair. With her limited yet competent 10 Mag, she let her ice spread over the surface of the stairs and up to the base of the second floor entrance, intent on freezing the feet of those standing there and making them easier targets, as well as maybe make them slip if they try to move.
From the lower-left, first floor, Taihei entered. She lifted three of her artifacts that she’d made with her 18 Mag, and with the same Mag to her second specialization of Gravity she now sent these flying at the infiltration team, fully expecting them to explode on shields but at the very least she’d have distracted them. With her she had Josefin, who completely lacks ranged attack alternatives and as such is just peeking right now.
From the second floor, west side, the arachne form of Ronja appeared right along with Suzette. Suzette shot a straight blast of Mag 16 empathic rage at them, the sheer rage in the blast seeking to tear whatever it found asunder, all while the blonde girl grinned so happily at them. Meanwhile, Ronja threw a giant net of Mag 15 Reinforcement web on them, intended to restrain them even as it had large enough square holes for allied attacks to get through.
Second floor, east side, an overly excited dragon girl jumped up on the railing right above her own painting, grinning at them before unleashing a massive burst of fire from her mouth at those coming up the stairs… which at Mag 10 wasn’t quite as dangerous as the other magical attacks in the room, but still nothing to be simply shrugged off. Lea rose into the air beside her. She locked onto her targets, and threw manifested shimmering green lances of wind through the air, targeting specifically ‘Mariette’ and Connie, the two they’d been warned about. At Mag 13 it wasn’t the most powerful offensive move in the room, but with Agi 21 no amount of regular dodging would make Lea’s lances miss, for she was a certified magical sniper that could predict such moves.
It should be noted, though, that while all these attacks sounded pretty lethal, they weren’t intended to kill, as Mariette commanded. Ice was only going to freeze. Suzette would power down her beam if she was making actual contact. Mayra’s fire would hurt, yes, but wouldn’t kill an averagely powerful Magical Girl. Lea had the greatest precision here and could pierce through a body to cripple someone without killing them, albeit that one probably looked pretty intent to kill. And Taihei’s explosive artifacts exploded when at a certain distance to living beings, far enough that they would cripple and not necessarily kill, albeit she thought that maybe she’d be unlucky anyway so either she did no damage at all or accidentally killed someone. Sally wasn’t close enough to change her bad luck, was she?
At the same time, a barrier was raised over the front door. The barrier was originally intended to keep attackers from escaping the ambush so they could be routed, but now it was being used to prevent what remained of the assault team from trying to be reinforcements.
Freya, after this, was a bit startled by the fact the floor had become mirrors. Mirrors were usually a good thing, being Mariette’s tools of magic, yet these were somehow not Mariettes, and Freya had experienced enough hostile magic to know remaining in a room with enemy magic is a bad idea. She called forth her minions, which manifested from darkness as a group of rock-beasts, representing the combo of Freya’s two specializations Rock and Beast, that she couldn’t use due to Mag 2. Tough creatures that couldn’t actually defeat Magical Girls themselves but could totally block their entrance into the Library by charging at the door from inside, stampeding over the mirror floor intent on preventing the infiltration team from just fleeing into the library! … While Freya slipped out the back because she didn’t want to be in a room with enemy magic.
This was their ambush. If they started being overpowered even the slightest, they had orders to retreat and regroup. We’ll see what happens.
‘… So, like, what kind of arrangement do you guys have with Justine? You know she’s gonna break it, whatever you do, right? Ain’t she the bigger threat here? Mariette’s not trying to either destroy the town or steal all the love from the world, hah,’ the Victoria clone asked, looking curiously at whoever remained now. Like, Kimble, maybe.
Justine’s current location
What Sakura found that she was facing was not a unit of easily killed minion ghosts that she could simply power through. These were ghosts filled with supreme magic, each acting as an extension of Mikayla’s will, and she was deep inside the Powerful Aura the spirit was extruding. She struck towards them, only to be met with a ghastly union of shields, clashing towards her assault with impeccable timing, before the soldiers flowed around the shields, armored or girl-like ghosts slicing towards her with swords and scythes, working with complete team-work, as if controlled by a single mind. Individually they wouldn’t have been able to compete with Sakura, no, but the sheer mass of them made for a powerful wall that was forcing her down.
She was, however, able to strike at those who were directing their attention towards Justine, the two of them together making a number of them have to scatter. These were quickly replaced with more of their number, Mikayla looking on with the slightest of a smile as she dodged Justine’s missile.
A sphere of powerful spirits swirled around Mikayla as she engaged with Sakura and Justine. The ghostly Magical Girl swung her arm, and with it a flock of ghosts extended like a massive blade to chop at Justine’s position, but she teleported out of the way. Specters moved out of the way of Justine’s attacks, and it appeared that Mikayla herself had absolute control of her location, able to speed through the air with sudden and high speed. Sakura was being a pain… so Mikayla made a gesture with her hand, and her second specialization of Gravity suddenly grabbed at Sakura to fling her away from the fight with a powerful lurch.
Then Aurelio appeared. If Justine stopped, then Mikayla briefly stopped as well, all her spirits pausing in mid-air in their exact current location. After all, her given mission was to delay Justine. What did it matter if this little boy wasted a couple of seconds? If he had a devious plan to play, then he’d play his cards anyway should she move to cut his limbs off.
Still, what neither of them knew was that Mariette had a change of plans.
A blast of light suddenly surged through the air straight at Justine and Sonia. If(when) they dodged it, it’d be caught in a portal going to straight above them to catch them again.
‘Justine von Visceral,’ Mariette called, holding her mirror forward with her left hand and grasping around the currently coloured black Bunny with her right. She’d emerged on the roof, glaring towards Justine’s current position. Tiny portals were around the top of her head leading to the eye under her eyepatch to allow her to look in any direction, down and up included, teleporting opponent. A look of determination in her visible eye.
‘Let’s end this here,’ she said, as she charged more blasts of light through her mirror, opened more portals to potentially reroute attacks and try to corner Justine and Sonia, help her companions get where they wanted and spread her tentacles for probably close combat attacks. With her she had Eli, who had one wing become a Reinforced shield, and the other becoming a blade ready to do battle, albeit she looked pretty nervous.
All allies of Mariette in this particular fight may request Mariette’s portals and then simply assume Mariette opened such a portal for them, in order to position themselves as they like to attack or whatever they want to do, assuming Mariette doesn’t have an obvious reason not to.
Aurelio suddenly may have found himself relatively ignored. Maybe. Depends on what Justine’s doing.
Some training was done against the predominantly Ground-type Pokémon of the Desert Mines! Truth was, both Jeebs and Royal was a bit underleveled compared to the Pokémon of the mines, but they had some handy help from their fellow Pokémon and could get some experience in!
They had to be careful, though. The Sandshrews and Geodudes around both knew Rollout, which coincidentally is Super-Effective against ⅚ of Skylar’s Pokémon and could keep going. In comparison, Sandile’s most dangerous move was Bite, while Digletts and Drilbur were pretty harmless with Mud-Slap and Fury Swipes being their currently most dangerous moves. Drilbur isn’t Steel-type yet, so Mac wasn’t Super-Effective yet, but he could still engage them for a modestly fair fight! I will interpret this as that he’s being intentionally trained to level 16.
With Seabreeze and Paradise taking out many of the Pokémon around here in one shot to save their lower-leveled allies to let them level up…!
Seabreeze grew to level 16! Paradise grew to level 16! Paradise learned Magical Leaf! Mac grew to level 16! Jeebs grew to level 9! Jeebs learned Stun Spore! Royal grew to level 10! Royal learned Charge!
…
What?
A swirl of light passed over Mac as he began to glow. His limbs grew longer, his talons larger, and overall gained far more of a humanoid figure than the chicken-like one he’d previously had, and…!
Congratulations! Mac evolved into Combusken!
Pokédex Entry #256 – Combusken, the Young Fowl Pokémon. It toughens up its legs running across fields and mountains. Its legs possess both speed and power, said to be able to deliver ten kicks a second. During a battle, the hot flame in its body increases, allowing to spew powerful fire from its beak.
New Pokémon evolved! Skylar earned 2000 P!
Mac learned Double Kick!
…
What?
A swirl of light passed over Jeebs. His body is surrounded by a tough, fuzzy exterior, made to keep him safe until his next evolution, his head still strangely enough sticking up through the fur cocoon that had formed, and…!
Congratulations! Jeebs evolved into Spewpa!
Pokédex Entry #665 – Spewpa, the Scatterdust Pokémon. It lives in thicket shadows, where it hides until evolution. It’s body is tough to avoid predators eating it, and if attacked it attempts to scare its enemies away by rustling its fur. If all else fails, it can spew a powder at an attacker.
New Pokémon evolved! Skylar earned 1250 P!
Jeebs learned Harden! Jeebs learned Protect!
While that was happening, the blind guy took to mining! He took to striking at the wall and needing to have JoJo next to him to know if he was making any progress or not. It took a significant amount of time and was a pretty tough work-out, but he got plenty of encouragement from miners around, telling him he was owning that wall and that he’d have a great future as a miner if he wanted!
Numerous hours into the process…
Skylar must have hit a frickin’ vein or something, because wow.
Then he went on to challenge a couple miners to battle.
Wasn’t any “Miner” trainer class, so here’s two Hikers.
‘Being a miner is all mining and battling! You got the mining down! How’s your battling?’
Hiker Jase would like to battle!
Pokédex Entry #529 – Drilbur, the Mole Pokémon. They and Excadrills dig out mazelike nests underground in which they live. Drilbur is known for being able to travel very fast through soil, able to reach 30 mph by putting its claws together and spinning rapidly, drilling through earth. They’re known to be rather friendly around people.
Metal Claw and Rapid Spin! No sandstorm means Sand Force will not do much.
Pokédex Entry #622 – Golett, the Automaton Pokémon. These Pokémon were created by ancient scientists and move using an unknown energy which it burns within itself. The source of this energy is unknown, and they’ve each been active for thousands of years. Constructed out of clay, it was meant to protect the civilization that constructed it.
Will Rollout against any bird or bug in Skylar’s party, and Shadow Punch at JoJo. Klutz does nothing.
Pokédex Entry #524 – Roggenrola, the Mantle Pokémon. First discovered around a hundred years ago in an earthquake fissure, it was compressed to be hard as steel underground. Inside each there is an energy core that keeps it moving. It’s only anatomy is the hexagonal ear in front, making out the world through sound. It has a tendency to move towards sounds.
Knows Rock Blast, which it will use against any foe it’s even mildly effective against. Sand Attack against close enemies. Sturdy prevents it from being downed with a single attack.
‘I had the scientist dudes make Pokémon out of the fossils I brought them! Want a look?’
Hiker Brendon would like to battle!
Pokédex Entry #140 – Kabuto, the Shellfish Pokémon. A Pokémon who inhabited beaches long ago. The eyes on its back were used to see out as it hid in the sand under its protective shell. While thought to be extinct and commonly found in fossils, rare living specimens have been found, unchanged even after 300 million years.
Knows Mud Shot, that most of Skylar’s team is immune to. Otherwise, Scratch and Harden. It’s not raining, so Swift Swim will make no difference.
Pokédex Entry #408 – Cranidos, the Head Butt Pokémon. A primeval Pokémon, it lived in jungles 100 million years ago, alive today only through reanimation from fossils. Its skull is extremely hard, used for headbutting prey and enemies. It’s known to headbutt trees to snap and fell them for no apparent purpose. It noticeably lacks intelligence.
Headbutt. Sincerely hope you didn’t expect a more advanced strategy. Has Mold Breaker, though there’s no Pokémon in Skylar’s team affected by this.
Fury Swipes! No sandstorm means Sand Rush will not do much.
What does Skylar do?
