Going on another adventure > Adventure! /// Day 6 // Morning
Tipping his head slightly to the side at Luz’s question then beginning to inspect himself more thoroughly because of her inquiry at his condition. “I’m okay, I know I don’t look the best but my path is set. The goddess requires more of me and so I do believe that eventually I will lose this skin and muscle. As for weakness?” again he pondered her question while flexing his muscles. With a deep breath he spoke up again, “although I am not as strong as our brother with the metal hand, I am fast now. Faster than I ever was before. My dexterity increased and I acquired a new ability that allows me to dodge harmful blows more easily, like I can sense them before I’m struck.”
Smiling at his friend for a moment then looking back out into the forest briefly, “Goblin Elder!” he called out to the old man, “I will be going exploring and May not return for a few days, and please do not worry about me.” Looking back to Luz again, “I do plan on hunting for the rest of the day to the north after that if you want to join me your welcome too. However at any rate we need to be careful, I doubt anything else in this world has a growth rate or has been blessed by gods within a week of their lives like us. Unique stands out in this world and could very well put a target on our backs that we are not prepared to deal with.”
With that last warning the Ghoul set out into the forest, keeping an eye to the trails and tracks that surrounded the area for anything that looked fun or interesting. He did need to test out his speed, so occasionally he would run forward for a while before turning back and running back to Luz. Gird even played a little game with himself, twisting and turning in between the trees and branches as he ran to avoid touching any of them and getting used to his new agility. He would only stop to investigate the area around them occasionally or stop to drink some water when available.
The pixie watched the others for a little while. Talking amongst themselves about what they have been doing and what has been done. Clearly they all know each other, hell he probably knows some of them as well. A wisp, a lesserwurm, a goblin, the pygmy drake, a strange looking thing he’s not too sure about but kind of looks like a wisp and a pixie had a baby, and lastly there was the albino that was at a disadvantage camouflage wise.
Ash slowly made her way over towards him and the pile of berries and leaves he accumulated. “Don’t know exactly, but there is a lot of them and the goblin’s picked blue berry looking things for food last night. Probly not ripe yet or not something you want to eat.” He just shrugged and smiled as he picked up three of the leaves. These leaves didn’t seem to irritate him to bad and he did want to try and blend in a bit more out here.
Ardur took the three leaves toward a muddy patch of dirt. He then began to take his spider silk harness off and twist it together in a belt fashion. Weaving the leaves around him for a loin cloth and tying them off with the silk. Feeling satisfied with his new clothes the pale pixie began to mix the dirt and mud below him. Taking scoops of mud in his hands, the pixie began to smear the mud over his body. Turning his pale body to a light brown, hesitating when he reached the black dots on his chest.
Now that he felt like he was more suited for life in the forest he did want to do one more thing before going back into the forest with the others, “I’ll be along shortly I want to try something.” The pixie flew to the mouth of the cave and starred in. about five feet out into the grass patch while the goblins worked diligently nearby. Holding up his right hand toward the darkness of the cave and grasping his forearm with his left hand for support.
Using the distance between his index finger and thumb on his right hand Ardur began to channel his mana into his palm and imagined how Crispy explained the fire ball spell to Orchid earlier. His mind went back to what started this idea, old fantasy movies where the spell caster used a chant to empower a spell. He could only hope that this would work, standing in the grass and basking in the sunlight he began to speak, “Fire burns, Inferno rages, Consume and destroy, Cleanse and Purify, Feel the wrath of the sun and rejoice in its light. Fireball!” angling his shot up so it could fly a bit further if Fireball I does have drop and he let it loose through the cave opening.
Freedom and Food > Adventure? /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - forest > Cave entrance
The pixie was quiet content with himself having been able to grab three of these earth worm like creatures from the ground. He held two in his hand while he ate the other one. It was definitely chewy and tasted like slimy dirt, the texture was a little odd and unsettling but he was hungry. There wasn’t much he found here so far that could make him puke after eating it. A few things that made him think twice sure, but so far he hasn’t thrown up.
After finishing the worm and waiting for his stomach to settle, the muscular pale pixie left the safety of the small tree and headed back to the cave. He could hear a few things rummaging down below him now on the ground but after a short inspection found that it was only a few goblins looking for food. Apparently he had gotten up a bit sooner than the others. He stayed like that, hovering above the goblins who seemed to be suffering from tunnel vision. Determined to stay on their task of finding food, it was something he hoped to learn from them.
He only stuck around for a few minutes to see if he could pick anything useful up from what they were doing before moving along. The cave was very near and he wanted to check to see what the others were going to be up and about yet. Fluttering by the mouth of the cave to look for his friend, who he could see she had been busy the night before and through the morning by all the new webbing across the top.
Ardur enjoyed that he always had a good feeling on where his friend was. The taming ability sure was useful. Finding his friend curled up under an overhang near her webs, the spider slowly inched out toward the pixie and waved. Tossing the two worms he had to his friend he smiled as she quickly stung them and wrapped them with her web. “Alright Steve, I’m going to go out and look for more food. Ill probly check on the others as well. I want you to stay here and keep up your good work with the spider webs and traps, if anything happens while I’m gone let me know.” Waving at her briefly the pixie dropped back down toward the rest of his friendly monster companions.
Flying down to the ground and looking over the others who were awake he smiled at them, “Good morning friends, I see you have all survived the night.” He looked about them for a moment before giving them a questioning look, “what are your names again? Some of you look a bit different.” He spoke while he pulled out the berries from his spider silk clothes and pilled the green berries near them. “I would refrain from eating those just yet, the goblins where eating some blue colored berries last night with some strange grubs, beetles, uhh roots, annnnd some basic vegetables… o and some small gecko looking things. I just brought these berries back to see if Ash could make use of them.”
Another glorious day > Freedom and Food /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - forest
The rush and freedom of movement being able to fly through the forest was exhilarating for the pixie. The cave could not compare to this, it was always closed off and claustrophobic. However, it was also protected and secure. He didn’t have to worry about getting lost or not having the cover to be able to hide from predators or other unfriendly creatures. Because of this, Ardur kept to the trees and even though excited about the freedom here, would not venture out into the open air.
As the pixie glided through the air he did find it quite troublesome and unfamiliar to have to keep a close eye out for other monsters. Just because he hasn’t seen them yet doesn’t mean they are not around. He did spot a small shrub with clusters of green berries. He stopped for a moment to stuff a few of these berries in between himself and the spider silk he wore. The sticky substance did help with keeping things in place.
Ardur didn’t know if the green berries he was picking were edible or not but after hearing what ash had to say the other night. Perhaps she could use them for a potion or at the very least tell him what they did so he knew he wasn’t eating something that would make him sick or worse. Plucking a few of the leaves from the plant as well, the pixie didn’t stay at this shrub for long and would constantly stop, look, and listen to his surroundings.
Once satisfied, he gathered enough for ash to work with and weaved enough leaves into the spider silk for added protection from the elements. Ardur took to the air once more only to spot something wiggling in the dirt below. Pausing for a brief moment the pixie glided by the worm like creatures and attempted to pull them from the ground as he flew by. If this worked he would then begin to make his way back towards the cave so that he may drop off the berries to the others and eat a few worms on the trip. Either way, if he was going to continue to do scouting missions for Ash he would need a back pack of some kind. It was just too bad that he couldn’t scan the plants or anything else for that matter.
Making Friends //// Another glorious day /// Adventuring day 4 // Morning / Location - cave entrance > forest
It seemed that crispy wasn’t taking the bait or hints. Honestly, Ardur had to remind himself that this was a different place and the concepts and principles he was used too wouldn’t work here. One thing is for sure, even if they were not being openly hostile towards each other they shouldn’t be trusted or underestimated. These goblins have proven just how troublesome they can be when they have good leadership and a good crafter.
But it would seem that whatever they had said had at least gotten something through to the older goblin. Crispy pointed at the opposite side of the cave entrance and stormed off basically saying they had a truce for now but otherwise were still separated. Ardur didn’t waste too much time waiting for ash or anyone else that came with her. Simply waving and picking up Steve to find a place to sleep near the top of the cave entrance.
It didn’t take very long to find a small shelf with an over hinge above it. The formation looked natural and was just big enough that he could lay down under the overhang and not worry about getting rained on. He was sure hypothermia was still relevant in this world after all. Setting the spider down, the shelf was covered with some moss and grass. For more than a moment the pixie stood their unmoving and breathing deep. Getting a feel for the cool breeze, digging his toes into the soil, breathing in the fresh air, and getting a good idea at what was normal for scents of the forest and outside world.
This place reminded him of home, at least more so than the cave. Fourteen days by his count. Fourteen days of being alive and away from Sarah. The thought of his former love brought him back to reality and what he must do. Even now in his tired and drained state he knew he had a few more things to do before he could sleep. Steve was nearby, she was hesitant about the grass and seemed a little more cautious now that they were a bit farther out into the open.
“Steve.” Ardur quietly said to his friend, “cast some webs along the top of the cave, maybe we might get lucky and catch a few grubs in the night.” Although hesitant at first the spider slowly skittered off towards the mouth of the cave. It was nice that she seemed to understand his commands. Still, he had his own work to do. Slowly he began to work his way across the rocky, moss and grass covered exterior cave entrance to spy on the goblins.
Ardur crept slowly towards the goblins stopping here and there to stick some grass blades or moss into his spider silk harness. This was the least he could do to try and conceal himself. He wasn’t really trying to hear the goblins this time as he figured that most of their idle chatter was nearly useless. However, the pixie was trying to get a better look at what they had scavenged and how their equipment was put together.
Creeping close enough to make out what was going on as he crawled on all fours across the rocks. Ardur was eventually able to make out a few things the goblins where eating. Big grubs, strange beetles, blue colored berries, some roots, a few small plants that could be some sort of onion possibly, and small lizards. At least Ardur now knew that most of these things he was looking at where edible. If the goblins could eat it so could he, or at least he figured?
Then came to inspecting their weapons the best he could. From the dim light and distance he was at, Ardur could make out some sort of lashing keeping some of the shields and spears together. It looked rather fibrous, perhaps a type of grass or wood maybe. Some of the spears and clubs looked rather rudimentary with at the very best fire hardened tips. There wasn’t much else to be learned from them at this time. He couldn’t help but notice that he couldn’t see Crispy or Orchid nearby. Figuring they were off doing whatever it was that goblins do, the pixie slowly backed out of the area and back towards his little nook.
Ardur found that Steve hadn’t returned just yet from her task when he got back to their little space. The goblins that he could see from his vantage point seemed to be calming down. The pixie found himself sitting down on the edge of the small crevice slowly going over a few memories he still cherished. This time it was when he and his partner would have long shifts in the ambulance. Listening to music to them was a way to cope and deal with the stress of their jobs.
They would just sit there and listen for hours either driving or just hanging out at the station. One of their favorites slowly started to drift into his mind, and again Ardur found himself trying to conjure up some of his remaining mana to sing once more. Hopefully this would help the others sleep who maybe hadn’t heard any music for the last few weeks.
“Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence Fools, said I, you do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence.”
Shortly after he finished singing Steve made her way back. She looked like she was more than a little wore out. He couldn’t help but smile at his friend before crawling under the small lip. Petting his friend briefly before falling asleep.
It was strange. For whatever reason his dreams where always strange here. Bits and pieces of what they had gone through but what he held onto and hoped for the most was seeing her face. Hearing the love of his former life’s voice echo through his mind. However, he knew he couldn’t linger on these thoughts. He was sore from the past day and now he was thirsty and hungry, as was Steve.
Ardur stood from his cold bed taking in the sights and sounds of the morning forest for a moment. He noticed it had rained slightly through the night but figured he just slept through it. The moss he was standing on seemed to be retaining plenty of water by how moist it felt. Picking up some of it and squeezing out some of the moisture into his mouth. It helped to stifle some of his thirst but he was still hungry.
“Steve, go check your traps im going to try and find some food. Stick around the area and see what you can find just be wary of the goblins.” The spider seemed to acknowledge his words before slowly scuttling off. Ardur stood on the ledge once more and sighed, “Praise the sun” he said with a smile enjoying the momentary warmth. Then after one more breath the pixie stepped off his platform and flew off into the forest to look for food.
Of course he wouldn’t stray too far, he was simply looking for the same foods the goblins brought back the night before. This also gave him a chance to explore while still proceeding with caution so that he may have less of a chance to be caught off guard.
@A Lowly Wretch so because of my new job at my work im unable to give this story the attention it deserves. because of this I will be withdrawing from this story until my job becomes more predictable and stable. Taking another chance //// Making Friends /// day 8 // Evening > Morning / Location - near cave entrance
Ardur was honestly surprised to see the strange scaled creature emerge from the darkness. Responding to the name Ash, he couldn't help but wonder if it truly was her. When she called out to him to come join them, he knew it was her. His mighty steed had become something more. Now he just needed to figure out how.
However, the more pressing matter was a goblin shaman that was freaking out at the sight of these two monsters. Obviously Ardur was a good specimen to behold. Far out showing the other pixies in physical looks and characteristics. The only way he knew this was by the goblins reaction to him. The pixie simply smiled and reached back up the stone structure. Disappearing for a moment as he did.
When he was in sight again a black and brown mass seemed to be clinging to him while he slowly descended to a nearby stalagmite and smiled. The black mass that clung to him slowly unraveled and crawled off of him. "Steve go on to another stone structure and watch our backs. Leave some web behind so you can tug on it if you see anything." the spider raised two of its front legs and waved them around for a moment before heading off to a suitable location. One that wasn't too far but wouldn't leave the two of them vulnerable if Crispy or the other goblins did something stupid.
Looking back towards ash and ignoring the two goblins Ardur continued to smile, "my my ash. Don’t you look absolutely stunning, if that is still you?" glancing over to the two goblins giving Orchid a small nod before shifting his gaze to Crispy. "No were not goblins Crispy, but we want the same thing. To survive and thrive. Our hope is that by helping each other we can achieve this." he would say no more and was curious to see who else was with Ash and Orchid.
hanging out above some gobo's >>> Taking another chance /// day 8 // Evening / Location - near cave entrance
These goblins were not being quiet about what they were talking about. Obviously they have never had to worry about others listening in on their conversations. Even with the group of them slowly moving away, Ardur could still hear them talk of making a wall, some sort of deal, betraying that deal, some basic strategies, and using them as slaves. One thing this pixie was sure of, he would not be a slave.
However, soon the group moved far enough away that he couldn’t hear them very well any more. Just a few loud words every now and then. He would make it a point to try to remember the names of the goblins later. For now Ardur waited for a few moments longer before grabbing Steve again and fluttering to the next area, still close enough to listen but hopefully far enough away so he wouldn’t be seen or heard.
Again their talk was simply about gathering materials and trying to figure out what they were going to do now. He could hear Crispy’s voice and then another one, the female goblin he had helped out a few days ago. She was talking to him about her part and what she was doing during the battle. They continued talking while the other goblins seemed to disperse, something about dreams.
Then something unexpected happened, the female goblin called out to her monster friend ash. Could this be the same Ash he met so many days ago? Could his mighty steed still be alive? These where questions he needed answers for. Creeping over the rocky surface carefully toward them with Steve trailing close behind. The spider was still doing her job as lookout and unknown to Ardur also a safety. The spider had been occasionally sticking silk to the ceiling incase either of them fell.
Well since the others seemed to be near by at least and he was close to crispy, Ardur decided to speak up. While softly singing a haunting tune.
“Born of graves and left below. Painted ashes, painted snow. When the dark awakens. Fires of our last hope are getting low. Souls of gods and souls of men. Meet in, cinders to ascend. Fate has chosen. And our fading light is at its end.”
While singing this low tune, the pixie slowly revels himself from his perch and hangs from one of the spires gripping it with his hand but readied himself in case he was met with hostility from the two goblins so he could get away quickly.
